The cost is in the details . Base price is just that, a starting point. Unfortunately, the price only goes in one direction after that-- up. Your costs for any RV will depend on all the added features you want inside. The Scamp RV company is not going to be any different in this regard.

What does a Scamp trailer cost? One prospective buyer reported that the 2021 16’ trailer would cost roughly $19,000. That is just with the standard options package. You have to email Scamp directly in order to get a current price list.

How Much is a 13ft Scamp Trailer?

If you just want the basic package, then you are looking at paying roughly $15,000 for a nice 13-foot trailer. This is the base price for the standard model, and if you want a bathroom included, you will be paying a little more.

The cost of the trailers with features not included in the base package will range between $18,000 and $22,000. The difference in prices is not only due to the many extra features included, but that Scamp builds their trailers according to their customers.

Each trailer is custom-built, and you will pay for that special attention to your trailer. These prices are subject to change as Scamp does not publicly release its price lists. You have to contact them at 1-800-346-4962 or emailing them at [email protected] to get their current price list.

Just so you know, the difference in cost between a new 2020 model and a new 2021 trailer is about $600, with the latter being the higher of the two prices. If you are going used, the cost of a 13-foot trailer will be up to the individual owner, and some owners are taking advantage of the current world situation to make their money back on their investment.

How Much Does a 19-foot Scamp Trailer Cost?

The starting price runs around $20,000 just for the standard basic package. There are few features with this package, and you can pay up to $30,000 with added features. Your actual cost new will depend on Scamp’s asking price for the different features you want to have inside.

Also, you need to be aware that the 19-foot Scamp option is a 5th wheel trailer and not a regular bumper tow one. This design provides you with a lot more interior space than the 13 and 16-foot models.

That extra space is a nice selling point when you need room when you are on vacation. The good thing about buying a 19-footer is that all design layouts include a toilet. If you think that is not a good item to highlight, keep in mind that many Scamp trailer designs do not include a toilet.

Scamp Fifth Wheel Prices

The 5th wheel prices will be the same as the 19-foot prices. That is the design that the trailer comes in, and there is no upgrade to the price for that design. This design is on both the standard and deluxe models.

It may be a good reason to upgrade and pay the extra money as the 19-foot 5th wheel model provides a lot more space than the 13 or 16-foot models. The reason we say that is that Scamp measures its length from the end of the tongue to the bumper. You may not get 13 or 16 feet of space inside those smaller trailers.

At least with the 5th wheel, you get some space over the hitch you can use, which allows for greater living space inside. Even if it is the 5th wheel, the trailer will not weigh you down and cost you a lot of money in fuel to tow.

These trailers may only weigh just under 3,000 pounds with all the features added. That is not bad when you want to save on your fuel costs. Going used may be the best way to save on the purchase price as they run around $8,000 more or less.

New Scamp Trailer Price List

This is something you have to get through Scamp itself. As we stated earlier, they do not publicly post their price lists, and since this is the middle of 2021, any current prices will not be the same for next year.

This time last year, the company was taking orders for 2021 and not building for any 2020 deliveries. It can be concluded the situation is the same for this year since so many people put their orders in last year for this year’s models.

We have posted their contact information and dealership location earlier, and that is the best source to go to. That way you know exactly how much you will pay. We say that every owner is different, and their costs will depend on how many features they add to the basic package.

There is a wide range of features and options you can add on, and Scamp has individual prices for each one. People are posting different price lists that they receive from Scamp, but so far, none have been for 2022. The price lists they post are outdated.

One example is that the price between the 2020 and the 2021 models for the same trailer size is $600. That was for the basic standard package. it is hard to say how much the price increased for next year’s models.

We are going to provide you with a little comparison chart of different prices for used trailers . There is n particular order, and there is no guarantee the prices will remain at the reported levels. This chart is just to give you an idea of what you can expect to pay:

The other thing you have to be aware of is that different used trailer dealers will price their Scamp trailers differently. If you find one that is in good shape and listed well below the above prices, then take it. It looks to be a better deal.

Individual owners will set their prices according to their sentiment, their own personal cost, use, and so on. Expect a very wide range in prices when you look at classified ads, etc.

Who knows, the used trailer market may collapse once everything returns to normal. You may get an even better deal when it does.

There are a few obvious differences between the standard and deluxe versions of Scamp trailers. 

The first difference that catches the eye is the deluxe hardwood interior. You can choose between oak or birch and they both look fantastic, although I also really like the fiberglass finishing on the standard models. The wood finishing does add some extra weight though, something to keep in mind. 

The deluxe versions have a more luxurious overall feel, but some online reviews point out that the deluxe versions can feel a little more cramped than the standard versions (depending on which floor plan you go for).

The list of optional extras is also a little longer for deluxe versions. There are bigger beds available, and the layouts are slightly tweaked. 

Really, it comes down to personal preference. If you are a fan of a more minimal look you may prefer the standard versions. I think both options are great.

There are 3 main points to consider here . If you decided on a floor plan that does not include a bathroom you will have more space, less weight, and a cheaper purchasing price. 

For some, having a bathroom readily available is an absolute necessity, while for others this is not such a huge concern. 

Personally, I don’t feel the need to have a bathroom in a small trailer. I usually camp in the warmer months, and often at spots where bathroom facilities are available. The extra space is just too hard to pass up for me. If you like to head off grid in the cooler months a bathroom could be essential, depending on your preferences.

Simply put, if you want quality then you have to pay for it.

What Is A Scamp Fiberglass Camper?

Scamp RVs are tiny travel trailers that come in three lengths. 13 foot, 16 foot, and 19 foot. All models are made out of a 2-part fiberglass mold and have a rounded exterior.

They are lightweight, aerodynamic single-axle trailers that are almost indestructible.

This is partly why they hold their value so well and are so sought after.

The company has been around for over 50 years, and its trailers still have a reputation for quality and longevity.

To top off the perks, they are also cute and look very much unlike traditional RV trailers . They are unique and attract attention from passers-by.

They are almost identical to Casita fiberglass trailers .

Scamp RV: Made In America, Family Owned

Scamp travel trailers are manufactured by Eveland's in Backus, Minnesota.

It's a family-owned business, not yet bought out by one of the prominent manufacturers .

Because of this, quality remains good. It's one thing that makes these trailers last so long and be so sought after.

They started manufacturing in 1971, first making the Bohler trailer for a small outfit out of Canada.

Eventually, Bohler shut its doors. Duane Eveland decided to keep going, creating the first Scamp trailers.

At first, they sold them as "put it together yourself" kits.

But that quickly became outdated.

Thereafter, the company started manufacturing and assembling the entire trailer in the warehouse.

They developed the 16 foot trailer in 1978 and the 19 foot fifth-wheel trailer in 1981.

Scamp uses only US-sourced products, so it's 100% American-made!

The rest is history, as the company still exists and makes these great little campers.

They even endured a fire in 2006 that burned down their entire facility.

The Scamp's Cult Following

Boy, talk about owners that are passionate about their "baby" eggs!

These trailers last a very long time, so some owners have had theirs for decades.

They love them so much!

There are owners clubs, forums, and in-person gatherings or rallies for Scamp camping trailer enthusiasts.

If you get one, you'll automatically be in that club and 'instant' friends with other owners (if you want to be).

If you're lucky, you can get one used. Scamps don't stay on the market long as they are in demand.

To buy a new one always requires a long wait time, and currently, in 2022, the wait is two years.

That's a small testament to how in-demand Scamps and other fiberglass RVs are.

The 'fur' on the walls is to help prevent condensation.

Some call it 'rat fur.' It may not be the most desirable thing, but it's effective at its job.

A Dream To Tow

Part of the appeal of these trailers is that they are so light and aerodynamic.

The heaviest of their travel trailers weighs about 2,600 lbs (unloaded).

Because they are so light, they can be towed by almost any vehicle! Most should have a minimum 3500-pound tow rating.

Their fifth wheel weighs around 2,400-2,900 pounds (the lightest fifth wheel on the market) and requires a truck that can pull a gooseneck trailer.

They aren't as tall as traditional travel trailers, meaning they are easier to maneuver under bridges, especially along the east coast.

These convenient, lightweight travel trailers are usually under 8 feet tall.

Their fifth wheel stands around 8 feet 10 inches tall.

But don't count on these heights.

As these campers are very customizable, the heights vary.

Measure and KNOW your actual height before you tow.

Every camper has only a single axle (two tires) and comes with electric brakes.

Scamp RV Floor Plans

Scamp makes it pretty simple. They ONLY have three different sizes.

A Scamp is either 13 feet, 16 feet, or 19 feet long.

Though there are only three lengths, they offer multiple floor plans for each length.

The sofa in some models converts to a camper bunkhouse mattress setup.

Interiors: Standard vs. Deluxe

Additionally, each trailer comes outfitted with either standard or deluxe interiors.

The deluxe models have hardwood cabinets as opposed to the standard fiberglass cabinets (with wooden doors).

So once you've chosen a length, you must select a floor plan you like. Some come with bathrooms, some do not.

Some come with additional seating. Others do not. All models have a dining area.

So first, choose what amenities are most important to you, then you can select your floor plan that includes those options.

Scamp RV 13 Foot Trailers

The Scamp 13-foot travel trailer is the smallest of the lot. You can order it with or without a bathroom.

Scamp 13 Foot Standard

The Scamp 13-foot models offer two floorplans with two different bed setups.

Keep in mind that every Scamp out there is custom-made.

Meaning the accessories they come with differ according to what the original purchaser (or you) ordered.

There are many additional (optional) things you can order with the trailer such as a gas hot water heater, a dry flush toilet, and a roof air conditioner (plus many more options).

Scamp 13 Foot Deluxe

The deluxe models offer three floorplans. 

The main upgrade or difference the deluxe offers is the cabinetry. The interior cabinetry is made from oak or birch instead of fiberglass (makes it a bit heavier).

Most of the standard fixtures also apply, and you can add any optional equipment that you can to a standard model. For extra fees, of course.

Scamp 16 Foot Trailers

The 16 footers are the 'middle child' of the Scamps. Meaning there's one larger model and one smaller model.

Scamp 16 Foot Standard

Scamp's 16-foot models offer more storage and counter space than the 13-foot model and include shower and toilet options.

The interior length is 3 feet longer than the smaller version.

Five layouts are offered with this length. Two of the layouts have a bathroom. Three do not.

Two floorplans offer up a closet, and you also have the choice of a side dinette starting with the 16-foot model.

Scamp 16 Foot Deluxe

The deluxe offerings are the same as the standard 16-foot offerings, but being deluxe, the cabinetry is oak or birch.

The deluxe models weigh a bit more (about 400 pounds more) than the standard models due to the hardwood cabinets.

The 16-foot Deluxe offers four floorplans, and only one without a bathroom.

Scamp 19 Foot Fifth Wheels

The Scamp mini camper style really changes with their 19 footers.

The 13 and 16 footers are bumper pull trailers. But the 19 footer is a small fifth-wheel!

Meaning you can't tow it with anything but an open flatbed truck. (Unless you get a hitch that allows you to pull a fifth wheel using a regular hitch, but that's too complicated to get into here.)

It is the lightest fifth-wheel trailer on the market by a long shot, weighing under 3,000 pounds. Heck, it's lighter than most small, lightweight travel trailers out there.

The fifth wheel Scamp RV offers up three more feet of living space over the 16-foot model.

Scamp 19 Foot Standard

For the 2024 models, they are no longer offering the 19 foot in standard trim. It's only available in deluxe (That may change for 2025, shall have to wait and see).

The existing standard 19 footer features a queen-sized loft bed.

It sleeps up to six people, and the standard only offers one layout.

This layout offers up a sofa for additional seating.

We believe it to be more inviting than their deluxe fifth wheels without the sofa.

Scamp 19 Foot Deluxe

The deluxe floorplans offer two layouts over the single standard layout.

However, know that neither layout offers a sofa, so the only seating available is the dinette.

This won't be very comfortable if you have more than four staying in the camper. (Though on the Scamp website , they claim you can sleep 6 with the deluxe layouts. So that's confusing.)

The 19 foot deluxe, just like the other two trailer lengths, means you get hardwood cabinetry.

Other than this, all standard features and options are the same and can be ordered direct from the manufacturer.

What Comes Standard With A Scamp Camper?

All three sizes of Scamp campers have the same width, interior height, and all have a single axle.

There are basic fittings needed in all campers that come standard with any Scamp. MOST of these come with all Scamps.

It depends on the length you get.

These items are:

If you get a used camper, you'll have to be happy with what the trailer came with. (SOME things can still be added aftermarket, such as a roof fan .)

Bathroom vs. No Bathroom

Should you get your Scamp with a built-in bathroom or not?

Interestingly, many Scamp owners never use their bathrooms, even if their trailer has one.

Instead, they utilize that space for storage.

Personally, I want a bathroom. At the very least, a toilet!

But if you always stay at campsites and they have bathrooms, you may not want to deal with the black tank , cleaning the bathroom, and so on.

You might want that space used for something else.

The trailers are offered with a front bathroom and a side bathroom on different floorplans.

What determines which floorplan you choose should be how comfortable you are living in it.

So, if you are planning to dry camp a lot out on public lands, you need, at the very least, a toilet. 

You could get a portable RV toilet .

But if campgrounds are your thing, you can easily get by without having a bathroom. It's a very personal decision that only you can make.

What Is The Average Cost Of A Scamp Camper?

Scamps are not especially cheap for the size of the camper. They cost between $20,000 and $40,000.

But you're paying for the quality of the build and the longevity it has.

They, in the long run, are likely cheaper than a cheaper travel trailer, as it will likely last much longer and will sell for a lot more compared to any 'regular' style travel trailer.

How Much Does A New Scamp Camper Cost?

Here's the price of Scamp trailers (as of time of publishing) for brand new models.

The prices below are for 2024 models , as the time of publishing they are two years out. Which means if you ordered today, March of 2022, you'll get a 2024 model in 2024.

If you bought the most expensive model, the fifth wheel , and added ALL of the options, it would cost, before tax, $45,138.

What Kind Of Vehicle Can Pull A Scamp Camper? 

Because Scamp trailer weight is on the lighter side of RV travel trailers, many vehicles can tow them.

Even some smaller SUVs are capable of towing, depending on their tow rating.

These trailers are all relatively light, but each one will show a different weight.

It depends on what customizations it came with, plus the weight of the propane, water, food, and other belongings that go with you when camping.

That said, here's a general dry Scamp camper weight range of the three sizes of trailers they make.

Is A Scamp Camper Worth It?

Are you asking me if a Scamp is worth it? Because I will answer 'absolutely.' Here's why:

• They last a lifetime if taken care of properly
• They are relatively affordable
• Scamps hold their value very well
• There's a layout out there for you
• Lightweight = can be towed by many vehicles
• Ideally suited for camping short-term or long-term
• Small, so easy to store
• Small, so easy to maneuver

These things all add up to Scamp trailers being excellent for small families, couples, or solos that want to RV.

Scamp Longevity

Your Scamp will likely outlive you. Is that good enough for ya, LOL?!

Because they are made out of a solid fiberglass mold, there's not much that will destroy a Scamp fiberglass trailer outside of it being in an accident.

Watch out for water damage to the floor. Even fiberglass exterior shells leak if the holes put in the roof aren't properly sealed.

Beyond floor rot, not much can go wrong structurally.

Buying Used: Scams

If something seems too good to be true, it probably is. That said, be very careful when shopping for used Scamps. Why?

Because the market is so hot, there are thieves out there who scam using photos of fiberglass trailers they don't even own.

They pretend they are selling that trailer at an irresistible price.

They are probably trying to get your credit card number or a deposit from you somehow. Just don't do it.

They might also be trying to get you to say 'yes' over the phone.

Don't do that! They may be working for a dishonest company looking for you to 'agree' to something by recording you saying yes.

So, be diligent, do your homework, go SEE that trailer in person, assess the seller's character, and use your judgment to stay safe and free of any scams.

Ignore the ad if it's a price that's too good to be true (like the common $1,200 ads you see for them on Facebook Marketplace).

How Much Does a 16-Foot Scamp Trailer Weigh?

Scamp trailers are some of the lightest campers on the road today. thanks to their smaller size, minimalist design, and lightweight fiberglass shell, which requires no internal framework.

Making Scamp trailers the ideal choice for smaller tow vehicles with minimal towing capacities.

But if you’re trying to figure out if your particular vehicle can tow a 16-foot Scamp trailer, you’re probably wondering how much the 16-foot Scamp weighs.

The 16-foot Scamp trailer has a dry weight or base weight of 1,750 to 2,000 pounds for the standard version and a dry weight or base weight of 2,200 to 2,600 pounds for the deluxe version, depending on how it’s optioned out.

Remember though that the dry weight or base weight of a camper and the fully loaded weight can be quite different, once fully loaded with cargo, gear, and supplies.

For example, a fully loaded 16-foot Scamp trailer will usually weigh closer to 3,000 pounds once fully loaded.

How Many Campers Does a 16′ Scamp Sleep?

The 16′ Scamp trailer can sleep anywhere from 2 to 4 campers, depending on the floorplan and how it’s configured.

Some of the floorplans offered on the 16-foot Scamp trailer can sleep more campers than others.

For example, the Standard Layout 3 on the 16-foot Scamp (floorplan pictured above) has a 4-person sleeping capacity, thanks to its convertible dinette booth at the rear of the camper and bunk beds at the front.

While Standard Layout 6 on the 16-foot Scamp (floorplan pictured above) only has a 3-person sleeping capacity, as it only offers the rear convertible dinette booth and another single convertible dinette booth in the middle of the camper for sleeping.

Depending on the size, the features, the model and where it’s purchased, the costs are going to vary.

How much does a scamp trailer cost?

On average, the prices for a Scamp trailer are going to range anywhere from as little as $2,000 used to as much as $21,500 brand new with all of the premium add-ons included.  Like most travel trailers, a used model is going to cost a lot less than a brand new one, and most used trailers will be around $4,000 to $7,000.

As for a new trailer, the costs will greatly vary depending on the features and options that are added outside of the base price.  Typical new Scamp trailers, according to the many classified ads and dealerships we glanced at, can range from $8,000 to $18,000.  For example, the base price for a 13-foot scamp trailer retails for around $8,000 while a 16 footer starts around $11,000.  Remember that this is the base price, and as features and options are added, the price will go up.

CamperFinds.com has ads that range anywhere from $2,500 for a 2003 16 footer to as much as $10,000 for a 2009 13 footer.  These are the prices for used scamp trailers, and if you were to click the link, you can glance at the average used priced based on your geographical region.  This company was founded in 1972, so the years will range anywhere from the early 70s until now.  Most ads on the internet, however, are typically from the 1990s and 2000s.

One member on FiberglassRV.com said he was quoted about $15,500 after all the options he wanted were included.

Scamp trailer overview

Common sizes are going to include 13, 15 (older models), 16 and 19 feet long, which is measured from the end of the tongue to the rear bumper, meaning the length inside is shorter than the specified length.

Unlike traditional travel trailers, Scamp trailers are built with fuel costs in mind.  They are designed to be towed by trucks, vans and SUVs due to the lighter weight and the aerodynamic design.  Weights can range from 1,200 to 2,800 pounds, depending on the size.

Floor plans, depending on the size, will typically include a table that converts to a bed, different storage options, a small kitchen, bathroom, shower, closet and a sofa that converts into a bunk bed.  Other basic specifications, according to the brochure , includes propane tanks, awning, TV hookup, 120v outlets, water tank, water heater, propane stove, roof vent, curtains, sink, electric brakes, electric supply cord and a spare tire.

Premium options, just like an RV, can include a variety of add-ons, including upgrading the air conditioner, appliances, entertainment options, generators, jacks, batteries, awning, electronics, paint, window awnings and more.

What are the extra costs?

If your current vehicle does not already have a hitch, this can result in additional fees.  SEE: “ How much does a hitch installation cost? ”  Check the specs of your vehicle to ensure that it is capable of towing something this size.

It may be possible to ask the seller to deliver a scamp trailer to your home, but you should prepare yourself for the additional fee that he/she may charge you.  If you buy new, most dealers, especially if you purchased locally, will deliver for free.

Even though the scamp trailer is designed with fuel efficiency in mind, you will still see a rise in fuel consumption when pulling a scamp trailer.

While optional, you may want to consider storing your scamp trailer during the winter months rather than leaving it outside in the elements.  This storage will be an extra cost, but it may also help keep the trailer in good condition.

Tips to know:

Make sure that you know what your SUV or truck can handle when it comes to towing.  It is advisable to consider a lightweight class because cars with lightweight scamp trailers can drive much easier than cars with heavy trailers. Heavy trailers can also decrease your speed and make it hard to break.

How can I save money?

Buying a used scamp trailer online can help you save money because some sellers offer lower rates compared to purchasing it directly from the factory.  However, if you are going to purchase online, it is so important that you view it in person to make sure everything is in working order.
