Viking Cruises from Fort Lauderdale

Viking Ocean Cruises

Viking Cruises’ huge fleet of ships sails out of Fort Lauderdale. You can choose itineraries that visit stunning ports in the Bahamas, Western Caribbean, Eastern Caribbean, Southern Caribbean, Panama Canal, and more aboard Viking Cruises ships that depart from Fort Lauderdale. Some of the most luxurious ships, like the Viking Star, Viking Mars, Viking SKy, and Viking Neptune, sail from Fort Lauderdale.

Fort Lauderdale

Because of its historic riverfront and gondola rides on the canals, Fort Lauderdale is now known as the “Venice of America.” With 31 neighborhoods ready to welcome you, fantastic scenery, great dining options, and a range of things to do, Fort Lauderdale has it all. Spend a few days before or after your trip to visit Hugh Taylor Birch State Park and cycle, swim, or paddle board through its mangrove forests. Las Olas Boulevard is filled with everything from the best cocktail bars and foodie haunts to some stunning little boutiques where you can shop till you drop. Hop on the Water Taxi and explore the city center from a totally different perspective. Alternatively, explore and discover the Museum of Science and Discovery with more than 200 dynamic hands-on exhibits in downtown Fort Lauderdale, where both kids and adults will learn something new. And there are 24 miles of golden sandy shores that invite you to swim virtually all year.

Port Everglades

Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades) is the world’s third-busiest cruise port , with millions of passengers passing through its eight cruise terminals. Several cruise lines use Port Everglades as an embarkation and disembarkation point for Caribbean cruises.

A cruise line is offering 2 around-the-world cruises in 2023 after its previous global sailings sold out in 'record time'

  • Viking announced two world cruises that will sail within the same year, a first for the cruise line.
  • The two 2023-2024 Viking World Cruise sailings will depart from Florida.
  • The cruise line's previous 2021 and 2022 world cruises sold out in "record time."

Insider Today

World cruises have been selling quickly . In anticipation of this, Viking has announced two upcoming 138-day world cruises that will sail within the same year, a first for the cruise line.

Viking's previous 2021 and 2022 world cruises both sold out in "record time" — within a few weeks, according to a press release . And in August, Torstein Hagen, the chairman of Viking, told CNBC that the cruise line's 2022 bookings were up over 42% compared to the same time in 2019.

Now, the company is seeing "more interest in these extended voyages than ever before," Hagen said in the press release.

The two 2023 to 2024 Viking World Cruises will depart on December 20 and 23 aboard the Viking Sky and Viking Neptune, respectively. The cruises will both sail from Fort Lauderdale and will follow the same 28-country, 57-port itinerary to locations like Hawaii, Australia, Vietnam, Singapore, India, and Turkey.

Prices start at about $55,000 per person, and rooms will range from a 270-square-foot stateroom to a 1,163-square-foot suite. As of now, all Viking guests must be vaccinated against COVID-19.

World cruises have been selling exceptionally well throughout 2021. In late January, Oceania Cruises ' 2023 180-day world cruise — which starts at about $41,600 a person — sold out within a day. Similarly, in July, Regent Seven Seas' 132-night 2024 world cruise broke the company's "opening day booking record" when the sailing sold out in under three hours.

Viking Cruises From Florida ? Yes You Can!

Posted on October 21, 2021 October 21, 2021 Author Chris Owen

viking cruise from florida

For years we would fly somewhere for every single one of our 30+ Viking cruises. It was just another part of the Viking experience and flight arrangements too were flawless from beginning to end. Now, North American travelers will be able to drive to the port of embarkation, one they are already familiar with.

Florida’s Port Everglades will host Viking Orion this week as well as identical sister ship Viking Star on November 6, 2022. Both ships will sail on a variety of itineraries in the Caribbean and Central America through 2022.

“Viking’s arrival diversifies Port Everglades’ fleet with a new brand that focuses on history, culture and exploration for curious travelers,” said Port Everglades Chief Executive and Port Director Jonathan Daniels, adding “We are honored that Viking has selected Port Everglades for their 2021-2022 winter cruise season and wish them great success in the Florida-Caribbean market.”

Originally a river cruise line, Viking has launched seven ocean ships since 2015 – and was recently rated the #1 River Cruise Line and #1 Ocean Cruise Line by  Condé Nast Traveler  in the publication’s 2021 Readers’ Choice Awards.  Viking Orion , which debuted in 2018, and  Viking Star , which debuted in 2015, are both 745-feet long with a 94.5 beam (width).

Where does Viking dock in Ft Lauderdale?

By glSting , July 7, 2021 in Viking Ocean

Cool Cruiser

We're about to book our first cruise on Viking and I'm trying to find out where they usually dock in Ft Lauderdale. We're long time Princess cruisers and use the terminal parking for shorter cruises. So convenient to get off Princess, walk across the street, get in your car and go home!  Not sure how that might work with Viking? Would appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks in advance.

We love the convenience of sailing from FLL as well.  Berth assignments can change based on the dates of your voyage.  You can go to the Port of Fort Lauderdale website and see the arrivals schedule.  At some point there will also be a berth shown.  Might be the one you are used to.  Viking used the same berths as Princess when we disembarked 100 years ago on January 4, 2020.  We had to wait for Princess to decide to get herself out of our way...... 😎

Haha

Thanks Jim.  It would sure be nice if the dates worked out so they could use the Princess dock. Right across the street to your car! We haven't booked the Viking yet but hope to. We'd be home from them for about two weeks and then right back out on Princess for Christmas. I know we'll have parking then!

Haha, I've probably been on that berth more than most. Spent 10 days there in 1976 loading citrus, then used it in 78 on SS Oriana. Have been back a few times this Century on Princess ships. 😁

Hopefully, when they post a TA on Neptune, we can disembark from that berth, to head home for a couple of weeks, before reboarding in L/A.

I wasn't very clear but we disembarked in San Pedro January 4,2020.  Turned her over to y'all and look what happened.... 😱  Disembarked from the slip always shown on The Love Boat.  Historical....

Viking Octantis Sets Sail on First Longitudinal World Cruise

  • February 28, 2024

Viking Octantis in Milwaukee

The Viking Octantis is in Ushuaia today to kick off Viking’s first ever Longitudinal World Cruise.

Sailing all the way to Milwaukee, the 65-day itinerary combines unique destinations, including Antarctica, South America, the Caribbean and the Great Lakes.

Passengers will be able to explore nine countries, with a total of 29 guided tours to different destinations.

The Longitudinal World Cruise also features transits of both the Panama Canal and the St. Lawrence Seaway.

After departing Argentina, the Viking Octantis heads south to Antarctica, crossing the Drake Passage before spending six days exploring the White Continent.

The cruise continues with scenic cruising at the Cape Horn and the Chilean Glaciers – including a visit to the Garibaldi Fjord, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

Before leaving Chile, the Octantis also sails to five ports of call: Punta Arenas, Puerto Chacabuco, Castro, Valparaíso and Iquique.

Sailing along South America’s Pacific Coast, the itinerary also features destinations in Peru and Ecuador ahead of a full transit of the Panama Canal.

Cruising briefly in the Caribbean, the Viking Octantis pays a visit to Cozumel before arriving in the United States.

On its way to the Great Lakes, the expedition ship is then set to sail to Fort Lauderdale, Charleston, Norfolk and New York.

The final leg of the Longitudinal World Cruise features off-the-beaten-path destinations in Canada & New England, including Cape Breton Island, Cap-aux-Meules and Trois-Rivières.

After visiting different ports in the Great Lakes – such as Port Colborne, Point Pelee, Detroit, Alpena –, the cruise is set to end in Milwaukee on May 2, 2024.

Custom-built for sailing in remote and polar regions, the Viking Octantis became the first expedition ship to join the Viking fleet in late 2021.

According to the company, the ship is optimally sized for its role, being small enough to navigate remote polar regions and the St. Lawrence Seaway, while large enough to provide superior handling and stability in different sea conditions.

The 7 Best Cruises from Florida to Book Now

F lorida ports serve as the embarkation point for more cruises than anywhere else in the world. The best cruises from Florida-particularly out of Miami, Port Everglades (in Fort Lauderdale), and Port Canaveral (near Orlando)-make it easy to visit islands throughout the Caribbean as well as destinations further abroad.

In addition to serving as the launching point for numerous blissful sailings, Florida provides cruise passengers with the option of tacking on a few days at the beach or some time at the theme parks, making it an idyllic place to start or end your next cruise.

While the Caribbean is by far the most popular destination for cruises from Florida, sailings through the Panama Canal (typically in spring and fall) and longer winter sailings such as multimonth world cruises and itineraries to South America also embark from Florida ports. Some routes travel from Florida up the Eastern Seaboard to Canada and across the Atlantic as cruise ships reposition for the spring and summer to the Mediterranean.

Here are our picks for the best cruises from Florida.

1. Western Caribbean with Regent Seven Seas Cruises

Suggested itinerary: 10-day "Heavenly Sunsets" itinerary in February 2025, from $6,299 per person (fares include unlimited excursions and round-trip airfare)

On Regent Seven Seas Cruises' recently launched "world's most luxurious" ship, the 746-passenger Seven Seas Grandeur , passengers cruise in high style-and with such extravagant accoutrements as a 1,600-piece art collection-from Miami to Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, and the Cayman Islands. On the all-balcony, all-suite ship, check out the Picassos and the enameled, 18-karat white-gold Fabergé egg created especially for the ship (the only permanent Fabergé egg at sea)-that is, when you're not indulging in included fine dining and beverages at venues such as a steak house, a French restaurant, and an Asian-fusion outpost. The onboard Culinary Arts Kitchen provides hands-on classes from pro chefs. During a port visit in Port Royal, Jamaica, a Bob Marley Cultural Experience shore excursion visits the famed musician's former home and the museum's One Love Café (there's bound to be an uptick in interest fueled by a new movie about Bob Marley, One Love , that debuts this month).

2. Circumnavigate South America with Cunard

Suggested itinerary: 52-night "South America Discovery" cruise in January 2025, from $9,405 per person

Next January, Cunard Line's 2,061-passenger Queen Victoria will spend nearly two months circumnavigating South America round-trip from Fort Lauderdale, for a true "wow" factor cruise. The sailing will bring guests to Caribbean countries, including Turks and Caicos, Barbados, Aruba, and the Bahamas, in between visits to several ports in Brazil (with an overnight in Rio); Uruguay; Argentina (with an overnight in Buenos Aires); around Cape Horn, Chile (including views of the PIO X and Amalia glaciers); Peru (with an overnight in Callao near Lima); Ecuador; and through the Panama Canal. On board the ship, dress up for a glitzy gala complete with a live big band in the Queens Room ballroom, play darts in the Golden Lion Pub, and sip the cruise line's extensive cocktail selection at the Gin & Fizz bar in the dramatic multilevel Grand Lobby.

3. Immersive Caribbean cruise with Azamara

Suggested itinerary: 14-night "Eastern Caribbean Voyage" in November 2024, from $2,423 per person

Spend Thanksgiving on Azamara Cruises' more intimate 680-passenger Azamara Onward while visiting 10 Caribbean countries in two weeks. The comprehensive sweep through the islands embarks in Miami and sails to the Dominican Republic, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, St. Kitts and Nevis, Dominica, Guadeloupe, Barbados, St. Lucia, Antigua, and the British Virgin Islands (Virgin Gorda). That's a lot of countries to check off your lifetime list. The Azamara roster also has shorter and longer sailings. Embrace the ship's social, country club–like atmosphere, and indulge in treats such as a classic martini and filet mignon at the Prime C steak house. On shore, book excursions to slide and swim the 27 waterfalls of Damajagua while in Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, and see the creative side of St. Maarten on an island art tour. Complimentary AzAmazing Celebrations highlight local culture, such as a Bajan carnival event featuring a traditional drumming Tuk band on Barbados.

4. Eco-friendly Central America sailing with HX Expeditions

Suggested itinerary: 11-night "Tropical Waters and Remote Island Communities in the Caribbean" cruise in September 2024, from $3,909 per person

HX Expeditions (formerly Hurtigruten Expeditions) is sailing its 500-passenger Roald Amundsen from Miami to Colon, Panama, visiting remote island communities along the way. As you explore Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua, Colombia, and Panama, you'll spend time in UNESCO-protected nature areas such as the Belize Barrier Reef, Colombia's Seaflower Biosphere Reserve, where you may spot iguanas and electric blue lizards, and Panama's Coiba National Park, one of the most biodiverse places on the planet. There's also the opportunity to snorkel around Panama's Zapatilla Island, which was featured on the TV show Survivor . The ship features an infinity pool and further impresses by lowering its carbon footprint with hybrid-electric engines that allow it to run for several hours on batteries.

5. Family-friendly Mexican Caribbean cruise on ‘Disney Treasure'

Suggested itinerary: 7-night western Caribbean cruises , from $6,973 for an adult and two kids sharing a cabin

The big news out of Disney Cruise Line in 2024 is the December arrival of the 4,000-passenger Disney Treasure , the sixth ship in the fleet, which will be running on cleaner-burning liquified natural gas and cruising the Eastern and Western Caribbean. If you have youngsters who are fans of the Disney Pixar animated feature Coco , the sailing in the Western Caribbean is the way to go. From Port Canaveral, sail for seven nights to Mexico, the Cayman Islands, Jamaica, and the cruise line's own Bahamas island CocoCay. The ship has a Coco -themed restaurant inspired by the movie and its characters. And the Coco theme continues on the Mexican island Cozumel, where a chocolate tasting and workshop is paired with hands-on learning about alebrije , fantastical folk-art sculptures and the inspiration for Dante, Miguel's spirit guide in the film. Adult-only areas of the ship include a Haunted Mansion–themed bar based on the Disney theme parks' attraction.

6. Choose-your-own Caribbean adventure with Explora Journeys

Suggested itinerary: 7-night A Journey from Miami to San Juan itinerary, from $4,050 per person; or 14 nights from $7,650 per person

The recently launched Switzerland-based luxury line Explora Journeys, with its resortlike ships Explora I and the upcoming Explora II each carrying about 740 passengers, cleverly does nonrepeating seven-night Caribbean itineraries, so depending on how much time you have, you can cruise for a week and fly home from the Caribbean or stay on board another week and return to Miami, without repeating ports of call. For example, sail from Miami to San Juan in Puerto Rico and visit Anguilla, Saint Martin (Marigot), Guadeloupe, and Dominica and fly home-or stay on for the next cruise and add St. Barth's, Antigua and Barbuda, St. Kitts and Nevis, and the British Virgin Island (Virgin Gorda). The ships are posh playgrounds designed for couples and multigenerational families, with four pools (one for adults only), activities such as pickleball, 18 restaurants and lounges, and a cushy club for kids ages 6 to 17.

We recently reviewed what it's like sailing on the Explora I .

7. Eastern Seaboard and Canada with Viking

Suggested itinerary: 15-night "Canada & the Atlantic Coastline" itinerary in April 2024, from $11,295 per person

Viking sails from Fort Lauderdale to Toronto as its state-of-the-art, 378-passenger expedition ships, Viking Polaris in April 2024 and Viking Octantis in April 2025, reposition from Antarctica to the Great Lakes for the summer season. On this itinerary, you'll spend time in Charleston, New York, Quebec City, and Norfolk, Virginia, while visiting wild areas along the Canadian coastline. That might include kayaking or hiking Nova Scotia's Cape Breton Island, searching for seals and birdlife on uninhabited Brion Island, exploring the rugged beauty of Trois-Rivieres in Quebec, or sailing through the legendary lochs and canals of the St. Lawrence Seaway. The ships, with their sleek Scandinavian decor, are designed to combine traditional cruising and expedition adventures, with guests boarding Zodiac boats from an enclosed marina, called the Hangar. A pair of six-passenger submarines allow for underwater views.

Added bonus: You can spend some time exploring Florida destinations like Miami before or after your sailing.

A classic mississippi river cruise line has abruptly shut down.

One less cruise line will ply the Mississippi River this summer, bringing fewer ships and passengers to Minnesota ports.

American Queen Voyages, one of three cruise lines touring the Upper and Lower Mississippi in recent years, abruptly announced on its website last week that it would be shutting down, citing an inability to rebound from the pandemic. The cruise line began life in 2011 as American Queen Steamboat Company.

The line's iconic paddlewheeler American Queen and sister ships American Duchess and American Countess had once again been scheduled to visit Minnesota river towns such as Red Wing and Winona this summer, on various Mississippi itineraries. AQV's website includes a link for requesting a refund for these canceled journeys.

Those three ships are currently docked in or around New Orleans. There was no immediate information on the vessels' future.

American Queen Voyages may be out, but U.S. river cruising is surging, including on the Mississippi, which offers a more laid-back alternative to ocean cruising.

The busiest operator on the Great River is rapidly expanding American Cruise Lines, whose sleek new line of smaller, modern "American Riverboats" — American Melody, American Serenade and American Symphony — will again sail a range of Mississippi River tours including Minnesota, starting in late June. In 2025, American Cruise Lines' own paddlewheelers American Heritage and American Splendor will also come to Minnesota. Itineraries that begin in Red Wing include a pre-cruise hotel night in St. Paul.

Meanwhile, luxury line Viking River Cruises will embark on its third summer/fall season aboard the 386-passenger Viking Mississippi, the largest cruise ship on the waterway.

There were signs of American Queen Voyages pulling back as early as last year. The line announced last summer that it would end its Great Lakes tours, which had recently included stops in Duluth. Travel Weekly reported in January that a number of travel agencies had stopped selling the cruise line due to service issues and delayed payments.
