Cross-country Tour de Ski 2023/24: preview, full schedule, how to watch live

Norway's Johannes Klæbo is defending his Tour de Ski crown in the cross-country skiing event, with Jessie Diggins of USA going in as the favourite to land the women's title she last won in 2021.

Johannes Klaebo of Norway competes at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships Planica, Slovenia.

The 2023/24 Tour de Ski in cross-country skiing gets underway with a sprint race in Toblach, Italy on Saturday, 30 December.

Can anyone stop reigning men's champion Johannes Klæbo from securing a third-consecutive crown?

Frida Karlsson is the reigning champion on the women's side, but the question is whether she will even start to defend her title. The star has struggled to find her best form since contracting COVID after the cross-country skiing opening event in Ruka, and 2021 champion Jessie Diggins is currently leading the overall season rankings.

The Tour de Ski, which is part of the FIS Cross-Country World Cup, will see skiers compete in seven stages, moving from Toblach to Davos, Switzerland, before the finale on the famously steep and gruelling mass start in Val di Fiemme, Italy.

Read on to find out all you need to know about the 2023/24 edition of the event, including the full schedule and top skiers to watch.

2023/24 Tour de Ski: Stars to watch

On the men’s side, Johannes Klæbo is the Tour de Ski favourite. He picked up where he left off last season and currently leads the World Cup overall rankings.

In fact, the reigning Olympic champion from Norway has won four races this year, which is 50 per cent of the season so far.

His compatriot, Harald Oestberg Amundsen is also having a good season and currently sits second in the overall standings after dominating the distance events.

Elsewhere, keep an eye out for another Norwegian, Paal Golberg , who won the 10km freestyle in Ostersund and is expected to be a medal threat.

On the women’s side, USA’s Jessie Diggins has taken full advantage of Frida Karlsson ’s fitness struggles to take the lead in this year’s overall rankings.

As a previous Tour de Ski winner, Diggins goes into the event as the favourite. However, she’ll have to be at her best to beat Sweden’s Ebba Andersson , who has won multiple times this season and currently edges Diggins in the distance events, as well as Emma Ribom , who currently tops the sprint charts.

Connecting to the Ski Community of Chamonix

Emil Wittrup Præstbrogaard. For many adventure tourism enthusiasts, destinations like Nepal, Kilimanjaro, Antarctica and many more may be hot topics of conversation. But one destination that’s been there for a while, home to a select community of frequent skiers that’s easily accessible, is Chamonix, France. Chamonix is no stranger to the skiing elite; it’s been…

Why Ski Touring?

Ski Touring has gained a lot of popular recently, and that is for a good reason. Unlike traditional skiing, it’s not confined to groomed slopes or resorts. Instead, you go into backcountry terrain, relying on your own power to ascend.

Away from crowded ski resorts, it offers a chance to explore awesome landscapes.

Ski Touring is truly for those seeking a unique winter experience, and it caters to a range of skill levels, with options for both beginners and advanced skiers.

The PGA Tour goes international for its annual two-week stretch in Scotland beginning with the 2024 Scottish Open, which wraps up Sunday. Welcoming a full field to The Renaissance Club, the PGA Tour is once again teaming up with the DP World Tour for the co-sanctioned event. Originally only apart of the European circuit, the Scottish Open has doubled as a PGA Tour event the past two seasons.

In doing so, it has identified a couple of big-name winners in Xander Schauffele (2022) and Rory McIlroy (2023). Making birdies on his final two holes, the Northern Irishman skirted past Scotland's Robert MacIntyre and into the winner's circle for a one-stroke victory. McIlroy is defending his title this week in what is his first start since his runner-up performance at the U.S. Open last month.

Ludvig Åberg arrived in stellar form and sat atop the leaderboard entering Round 4 with MacIntyre, two-time major champion and Australian Adam Scott all in contention. You can watch Round 4 of the Scottish Open through the options below, but another option is to follow along with Scottish Open leaderboard coverage , including highlights and analysis.

Who will be crowned champion on Sunday in Scotland?

Andrew Redington/Getty Images

The final round of the 2024 Genesis Scottish Open gets underway early Sunday morning, July 14, at the Renaissance Club in Scotland. Here’s everything you need to know to watch the Scottish Open on Sunday, including full TV coverage, streaming info and tee times.

How to watch the Genesis Scottish Open on Sunday

It’s the weekend at the Genesis Scottish Open, which means it’s also time for one of the best sports days of the year. Between the finals at Wimbledon , the finals at the Euros, and a star-packed final round at the Scottish, sports fans will have no shortage of content begging them towards the television on Sunday afternoon. And though we might be biased, we feel compelled to remind you, dear reader, that the golf might be the best of all.

Bobby MacIntyre is back in the thick of contention at the Renaissance Club following a brilliant Saturday 63. He enters Sunday in the final pairing — alongside two-shot leader Ludvig Aberg — and just a few shots clear of names like Adam Scott, Rory McIlroy and Collin Morikawa.

Last year, it was Scottish Open Sunday that brought us one of the best duels of the PGA Tour season — a mono-a-mono battle between MacIntyre and McIlroy for the title. With Bobby back in the mix in front of a hometown crowd, the action promises to at least be compelling.

You can watch Sunday’s final round of the Genesis Scottish Open on TV via Golf Channel and CBS, with coverage beginning on Golf Channel at 10 a.m. ET and continuing on CBS at 12 p.m. ET. PGA Tour Live on ESPN+ will provide exclusive streaming coverage, including featured group coverage, while Peacock will provide a simulcast of Golf Channel’s TV coverage and Paramount+ will stream CBS’s Sunday coverage.

Rory McIlroy will be hoping to bounce back at the Renaissance Club this weekend, as the Irishman looks to defend his title at the Scottish Open.

This week's co-sanctioned DP World and PGA Tour event in North Berwick marks McIlroy's first competitive action since his agonising loss at the U.S. Open last month which saw him register three bogeys in his final four holes to blow the chance of ending his 10-year wait for a fifth major.

There a strong field standing in the way of a winning return for McIlroy, including 2022 champ Xander Schauffele, the in-form Ludvig Åberg and two-time major winner Collin Morikawa.

How to watch the Scottish Open online from anywhere using a VPN

If you find yourself unable to view the tournament locally, you may need a different way to watch the Scottish Open -- that's where using a VPN can come in handy. A VPN is also the best way to stop your ISP from throttling your speeds on game day by encrypting your traffic, and it's also a great idea if you're traveling and find yourself connected to a Wi-Fi network, and you want to add an extra layer of privacy for your devices and logins.

With a VPN, you're able to virtually change your location on your phone, tablet or laptop to get access to the game. Most VPNs, like our Editors' Choice, ExpressVPN, make it really easy to do this.

Using a VPN to watch or stream sports is legal in any country where VPNs are legal, including the US, UK and Canada, as long as you have a legitimate subscription to the service you're streaming. You should be sure your VPN is set up correctly to prevent leaks: Even where VPNs are legal, the streaming service may terminate the account of anyone it deems to be circumventing correctly applied blackout restrictions.

Looking for other options? Be sure to check out some of the other great VPN deals taking place right now.

That's the equivalent of $6.67 a month with code  SPECIALDEAL , which should be automatically applied.

Quick tips for streaming the Scottish Open using a VPN

  • With four variables at play -- your ISP, browser, video streaming provider and VPN -- your experience and success when streaming the Scottish Open may vary.
  • If you don't see your desired location as a default option for ExpressVPN, try using the "search for city or country" option.
  • If you're having trouble getting the tournament after you've turned on your VPN and set it to the correct viewing area, there are two things you can try for a quick fix. First, log into your streaming service subscription account and make sure the address registered for the account is an address in the correct viewing area. If not, you may need to change the physical address on file with your account. Second, some smart TVs -- like Roku -- don't have VPN apps you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you'll have to install the VPN on your router or the mobile hotspot you're using (like your phone) so that any device on its Wi-Fi network now appears in the correct viewing location.
  • All of the VPN providers we recommend have helpful instructions on their main site for quickly installing the VPN on your router. In some cases with smart TV services, after you install a cable network's sports app, you'll be asked to verify a numeric code or click a link sent to your email address on file for your smart TV. This is where having a VPN on your router will also help, since both devices will appear to be in the correct location.
  • And remember, browsers can often give away a location despite using a VPN, so be sure you're using a privacy-first browser to log into your services. We normally recommend  Brave .

Ellen DeGeneres

Ellen DeGeneres said during a recent stop on her “Ellen’s Last Stand…Up” tour that she is done with fame once she plays her final shows, which will be filmed for a new Netflix special (via People and SFGate ). During the audience Q&A part of the show at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts in Santa Rosa, one fan asked if DeGeneres would return to movies after the tour ended or perhaps try her hand at Broadway.

Related stories, gaming layoffs already top 2023’s total — and it’s only july, france's oscar committee increases size and term length after last year's 'anatomy of a fall' snub.

DeGeneres kicked off the “Ellen’s Last Stand…Up” tour earlier this year and recently canceled four dates on the lineup. She’s been using the shows to address the misconduct accusations that hit as “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” was coming to an end after a nearly 20-year run.

The talk show ended amid a series of reports detailing allegations of racism, sexual misconduct and intimidation behind the scenes. Variety  also reported  on crew members’ frustrations with how the production handled compensation during the COVID pandemic. DeGeneres gave an on-air apology and three producers  were fired  after WarnerMedia conducted an internal investigation.

“Let me catch you up on what’s been going on with me since you last saw me,” DeGeneres said at the Santa Rosa show before joking: “I got chickens. Oh yeah, and I got kicked out of show business for being mean.”

The comedian went on to admit that she “can be demanding and impatient and tough. I am a strong woman.” DeGeneres added, “I am many things, but I am not mean.”

“I used to say, ‘I don’t care what people say about me.’ Now I realize I said that during the height of my popularity,” DeGeneres said about the public blowback from the allegations.

During a previous stop on the tour at the Largo at the Coronet Theater in West Hollywood, DeGeneres responded to a fan question by saying it was “so hurtful” how her show came to an end.

Degeneres’ “Ellen’s Last Stand…Up” tour continues through Aug. 17.
