The tallest building in Monaco, whose inauguration in 2015 was accompanied by a great deal of media attention focused on the level of luxury it offers residents. The double skyscraper soars 170 metres above the peaceful Saint-Roman residential district. It houses 60 serviced apartments, duplexes and a penthouse. In addition to the lavish interiors, residents benefit from a chauffered limousine and numerous other services and have use of the magnificent spa and a business centre.  Monaco’s skyline has changed dramatically in the past few decades. In 1954, the Principality was home to 688 villas but the success of the Monaco Economic Development Corporation, established by Prince Rainier III in 1960, led to an influx of new workers and investors who needed accommodation. Many villas were demolished to make way for apartment buildings and hotels. In this tiny country, building upwards was the logical solution. Before the 170-metre-tall blue glass-clad Tour Odéon appeared on Monaco’s skyline, the Millefiori was the tallest apartment building. Completed in 1969, it rises 111 metres above the Monte Carlo district, offering residents spectacular views and proximity to the Carré d’Or shopping area and some of Monaco’s most famous landmarks. Many of the luxury apartments have undergone renovation work and a supermarket sits conveniently at street level.

L’Annonciade, close to the Tour Odéon in the La Rousse-Saint Roman district, also stands at 111 metres. It opened its doors in 1980.   La Rousse-Saint Roman properties  are close to a public elevator that takes residents down to the beaches in Larvotto. Parc Saint-Roman is the third tallest building. This 35-floor building rises 108 metres and was completed two years after L’Annonciade.  Chateau Perigord I and II, completed in 1972 and 1973 respectively, rise to 93 metres. Luxury apartments in these portered buildings in La Rousse-Saint Roman are highly sought after. In 2011, the slender 90-metre-tall towers and geometric facades of the Résidence Le Simona made their appearance in the Principality. Le Simona is the ninth tallest building in Monaco, a position it shares with Le Roccabella in the Larvotto district. Like the Tour Odeon, Le Simona has brought Monaco into a new era with its combination of innovative modern architecture and a luxurious living environment.

Monaco, the tax haven on the French Riviera, is experiencing a luxury-housing boom that includes the world’s most expensive penthouse as developers prepare for an influx of millionaires and billionaires escaping higher taxes or a loss of banking privacy.

The Tour Odeon, a double-skyscraper being built by Groupe Marzocco SAM near Monaco's Mediterranean seafront, will contain a 35,500 square-foot penthouse with a water slide connecting a dance floor to a circular open-air swimming pool. The apartment may sell for more than $400 million when it goes on the market next year, French magazine Challenges reported. That would make it the world's most expensive penthouse, according to broker Knight Frank.

“We think we can get a little bit more,” Daniele Marzocco, a director at the company, said in June. So far, the developer has found buyers for 26 of the 36 luxury homes that have been offered for sale.

“What we sell is Monaco,” commercial director Niccolo Marzocco says during a viewing of the skyscraper, which is costing more than $798mmillion to build, excluding the land. He cited security, stability and the convenience of living in a city-state about two-thirds the size of New York’s Central Park.

The most expensive part of Monaco, centred on the Golden Square and The Casino de Monte-Carlo made famous in James Bond films, is already the world’s costliest property location ahead of Hong Kong. For $1 million, you could buy about 160 sq ft of space, Knight Frank estimates.

The principality’s residents, who include Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev and pop singer Shirley Bassey, don’t pay taxes on income. The French have to pay taxes there, with certain exceptions dating back more than 50 years.

The Tour Odeon will be Monaco’s first high-rise since the 1980s. A quarter of the apartments sold on the open market by Groupe Marzocco have gone to expatriates from the former Soviet Union, the company said, without disclosing where they’re based.

The lower floors were sold to Monaco’s government for use by local citizens, who will enter the building through a separate entrance.

Tour odéon’s $475 million sky penthouse: a look a the world’s most expensive apartment.

The ancient Rock of Monaco fortress has a modern skyline companion.  Tour Odéon  is the first luxury skyscraper to beautify Monaco’s majestic Riviera mountainside since 1980, and, at 558 feet tall, it reigns as the principality’s tallest tower, making it an ideal perch for the most expensive penthouse in the world (which occupies Tour Odéon’s top five floors).

For nearly half-a-billion dollars (give or take $25 million), the penthouse could be yours (and by “yours,” we mean people on the Forbes Billionaires list—others need not apply.)

Previously, the same penthouse reportedly listed for $250 million, with super rich European elites as potential prospects. We’ve heard of inflation, but this is ridiculous—and by ridiculous, we mean special. We’re pretty sure the penthouse’s new speculated price—$475 million—is a better economic indicator than Wall Street of good times to come. Tour Odéon is where old money will give rise to new money, and perhaps a new generation of über wealth.

Tour Odéon is touted as “the very best that Monaco has to offer.” Who are we to argue? The high-rise is a double tower that houses 70 luxurious apartments, ranging from one to six bedrooms, including two 12,916 square-foot Sky Duplexes and the five-story Sky Penthouse which, at 35,520 square feet, is virtually out of this world.

All apartments here feature floor-to-ceiling windows with natural light and panoramic views of the Mediterranean coastline and sparkling azure waters. Tour Odéon is the ambitious collective vision of architect  Alexandre Giraldi , developer  Groupe Marzocco , interior designer  Alberto Pinto , and landscape architect  Jean Mus .

If you play in Monaco’s luxury playground, you’re going to need toys. Tour Odéon’s penthouse—slated for completion this fall—features multiple pools (highlighted by a giant rooftop infinity pool with slide), a private disco, and perhaps—according to some renderings—even a palm tree for the billionaire seeking shade from the intense opulent glare. As if that isn’t enough, the penthouse offers a three-bedroom staff quarters, private chauffeur, personal caterer, and 24-hour concierge service. The eventual penthouse dweller will, however, have to share a health club, spa, and movie theater with mere millionaires.

The luxury skyscraper is pitched as “your ultimate home between the sea and the sky.” And with “your,” the slogan means to capture the attention of individuals like Bill Gates or Paul Allen. Allen is a good prospect—from Tour Odéon’s penthouse infinity pool, he could keep an eye on his megayacht Octopus (formerly the world’s largest at 414 feet long), which sometimes docks in the Port of Monaco.
