How To Choose The Best NYC Night Tour

How do you choose the best New York night tour? There are a few important factors to consider when booking a night tour in NYC.

First, decide how active you want to be. If you’ve been walking around all day and want to get off your feet and rest, exploring by comfortable tour bus or boat tour is the best option; however, if you want to be more active, consider a nighttime walking tour or an NYC nightlife tour.

Similarly, don’t forget about the weather. If you’re visiting NYC in the winter , an outdoor tour at night may not be the best idea; but in the summer, nighttime can be the most pleasant time of day to be outside.

Finally, consider what you want to see. As a local New Yorker, some of my favorite sites to see after dark include the Brooklyn Bridge, the Empire State Building, and the Chrysler Building.

Additionally, if you can get a view of the entire skyline lit up, such as from an evening boat tour or helicopter tour, that can be truly special.

VIP Colosseum at Night Tour with Underground & Arena Floor

Start your Colosseum night tour at the Teatro di Marcello as evening falls over Rome.

  • Tour the Colosseum at night, complete with VIP access to special areas usually closed to the public.
  • Visit the Colosseum underground, step onto the arena floor, and admire the silence of general access areas in the peaceful evening atmosphere.
  • Explore in the company of an insightful guide and a maximum of 24 guests, allowing you to have an even more intimate experience at this spectacular stadium.

Preview the experience

Tour description, tour the colosseum at night after the gates have officially closed for the day..

A Colosseum night tour is one of the most exclusive and enjoyable ways to visit Rome's most famous ruin. The crowds are smaller, the views are better, and the experience is much more intimate. You'll experience the arena in all its glory as you explore the nearly empty arena with your expert guide telling hair-raising tales of its bloody past. Your experience won't just be more intimate, it will be much more comfortable now that the sun has gone down.

You'll start your Colosseum night tour in the historic Jewish Quarter. Take a look at the Teatro di Marcello—an ancient amphitheater that looks like a miniature Colosseum—before making your way towards the main event. Along the way, you'll pass by Piazza Venezia, seeing the monument that represents new Rome and new Italy—and by far one of the most beautiful buildings in Rome to be seen at night. Once you arrive at a scenic vantage point overlooking the Roman Forum, your guide will tell you tales from the empire, whose reach you won't believe.

Trace the story of gladiators underneath the Colosseum and out on the arena floor.

Just as the last of the daytime crowds empty out, you'll step into the magnificent Colosseum itself. You'll head up into the stands first for an introductory stroll around Rome's most iconic monument, hearing stories of its origin and initial purpose. Without the hustle and bustle of the daytime crowds, you'll experience the Colosseum at its most serene, and get a sense of what the atmosphere was like nearly 2,000 years ago—an experience few visitors can claim to have had.

The next stop on the Colosseum night tour is a true VIP experience. You'll head down into the underground area below the Colosseum, where animals and gladiators awaited their turn to fight. The underground may only be visited on pre-booked tours with a limited number of participants, so this is a rare opportunity! Combined with the later entrance time, this makes our Colosseum night tour the most exclusive Colosseum visit available—as well as the most enjoyable.

Finally, you’ll experience your own "Gladiator" moment on the arena floor. Make your way there alongside an official Colosseum guard who will unlock a special gate, swinging it open to reveal that iconic walkway onto the floor. Walk in the footsteps of gladiators as you step out on to the arena floor and scream “Are you not entertained?” into the empty amphitheater (if you so please). This is the most incredible vantage point in the Colosseum, so take your time to soak it up.

Journey through Ancient Rome in a small group of 24 people or fewer.

Seeing the Colosseum in general may be an opportunity that only comes once in a lifetime—and having it all to yourself at night definitely is! Perfect for families, for those who don't like the heat of day, and for visitors who want a different experience, our VIP Colosseum Night Tour is one of our most atmospheric experiences. High demand and limited availability often mean that this tour sells out months in advance, so book now to secure your place! Trust us when we say that this is an experience you'll cherish for decades to come.

Please note: Due to high demand and restricted access, the entrance time at the Colosseum may be granted between 7:15pm and 10:30pm the day of your tour. We will confirm the start time of your tour about 30 days prior to the tour date.

Last year I was in Rome and did a Coliseum tour in the day . . . I didn’t want to go again after that experience but my family wanted to. I am so glad I did! The night tour was a completely different experience and 100% worth it! Going at night without the intense crowds and not in the heat of the day made it so much easier to immerse yourself into the experience and enjoy the information received. You could actually start to think of what it was like so long ago. Book this tour well in advance, you won’t be sorry!

An Enchanted Evening In The Nation’s Capital

Often, certain places are categorized as “a city like no other in this country.” In the case of Washington DC, the claim is especially true and well-deserved. Everywhere you look you’ll find granite and marble fashioned into some of America’s most iconic buildings and landmarks. These structures are imbued with the events of the past that have molded and formed this country into the bastion of liberty and democracy known the world over. When evening comes, this city resonates with a power you can only feel here. Abraham Lincoln, sitting stoically overlooking the National Mall comes alive at the memorial of his namesake.

With stops at the Iwo Jima Marine Corps Memorial, FDR, Lincoln, Vietnam Veterans, Korean War,  and Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorials, there’s a whole other beauty and majesty that DC projects by the light of the moon and this tour captures every sparkling moment.

Rated as One of the Top 20 Best Kept Secrets

American History Lives In Washington DC

Washington DC not only serves as the very foundation of the power structure of the United States where it’s laws are written and where the interests of all 50 states are represented, but it is also a living chronology of the trials, tribulations, successes, and milestones that define this republic. Pierre L’Enfant, George Washington’s trusted city planner, converted this district of forests and marshes into the public squares and wide avenues you see today. A triumvirate of this nation’s most important documents, the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and the Declaration of Independence are all kept here in the rotunda of the National Archives for all to see. There are remembrances of all sorts commemorating wars, patriots, and landmark events and even the museums and galleries represent the very best in American innovation. Whether a visitor from another country or a U.S. citizen, a trip through the Nation’s Capital is a trip worth taking!

THINGS TO DO IN WASHINGTON DC

Whether you’re looking to cut a rug listening to some cracklin’ good rockabilly or finding just the right armadillo boots to give your dad for his birthday, these great spots have received our stamp of approval.

A super knowledgeable English-speaking guide

After booking this epic underground tour, you’ll hear from our friendly Travel Experts who’ll ask for your name and birthday. Each ticket is reserved specifically for you since you're a VIP. Don’t forget to bring your ID to the Colosseum to confirm your ticket! This product includes an entry ticket to the Colosseum + Underground + Arena, Forum and Palatine, for which our cost is 25 Euro per person.

The Best Views of Ancient Rome

Your evening begins with a walking tour through ancient Rome, discovering the iconic areas near the Colosseum such as the Roman Forum, Trajan’s Market, and Trajan’s Column. While most of these sites will be closed for the day, your guide knows all the perfect vantage points for taking jaw-dropping photos in the evening light. Learn all about how the epicenter of the Roman Empire used to look, who lived there, and why the Roman Forum was so important to the people of ancient Rome.

Piazza del Campidoglio

You'll stroll through the beautiful Piazza del Campidoglio—the first modern square in Rome that happened to be designed by Michelangelo. Yep, the same man who painted the Sistine Chapel and carved the magnificent David statue in Florence! In addition, you'll climb the massive staircase in front of the Palazzo Senatorio that was also created by the Renaissance master.

The Roman Forum

This amazing archaeological site was once the social and political heart of ancient Rome, where public gatherings took place, and the decisions that shaped the Roman Empire were made. While the site itself is closed in the evenings, your guide will lead you along the exterior for a great view if the sites inside, and you'll learn about the seismic events that once occurred here.

Trajan’s Market

As you get closer to the Colosseum itself, your guide will take you past more of Rome's ancient sites. Constructed sometime between 107-110 AD, and considered the oldest shopping mall in the world, Trajan’s Market epitomizes the sophistication of the Roman Empire. It stands as a multi-level structure at the north end of the Imperial Forum, which once housed around 150 Roman shops and offices.

Trajan’s Column

This 126-foot column tells the story of Emperor Trajan's victory over a barbarian army through 155 carefully-sculpted scenes. Like modern-day comic strips, battle depictions from the war between Rome and Dacia wrap around the triumphal column. After more than 1,900 years, the column is one of the most distinctive sculptures to survive the fall of Rome. Hear about how archaeologists have scrutinized the scenes to learn more about how the Roman army dressed and fought so many centuries ago.

Explore the Colosseum and Underground After Dark

You'll need to have your ID handy to enter the Colosseum Underground. Here a knowledgeable Colosseum guide will be assigned to you once you pass through security and arrive at the ticket office inside the Colosseum. But this is your chance to see the Colosseum like most tourists never will!

Arriving here in the cool of the night with your local guide and small group of no more than 24 people, you'll first enter the Colosseum Underground or the dungeons. Used for housing slaves and animals, the Colosseum Underground featured two levels, an elaborate networks of tunnels, and 60-80 elevators operated by up to 640 slaves. Explore this restricted, behind-the-scenes area with your local guide, and imagine the experiences that once unfolded down here.

The Arena Floor Experience

Finally, you'll walk next to the great Gate of Life, which was used by triumphant gladiators. This leads out onto the reconstructed Arena Floor where the savage games once took place. This entrance is different from the Gate of Death which earned its name because only the dead passed through that exit after losing their lives in battle. Standing on the Arena Floor under the glow of moonlight without the crowds is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

This is the first floor of the arena where you can appreciate a view of the arena glowing against the night sky. You'll stand right where emperors of Rome and the wealthy and noble classes would look down upon the bloody battles below.

You'll also have time to watch some of a short film that offers colorful historical details about the life of a Roman gladiator taken from the writings of ancient historians and the gladiators themselves. This night will be one to remember!

Informative but disorganised

Tour was interesting, however we were late starting and late to the Colosseum so the staff there were annoyed with our group and really rude to us.

Our guide, Fiona, was amazing! She had so much knowledge to share with us and was excellent with our kids (17, 12, 10). I highly recommend this tour. Not only did we enjoy Ancient Rome at night but we got to be in the Colosseum with only 20 people.

Frequently Asked Questions

What to bring?

Please make sure to bring your passport or government ID! We also recommend comfortable shoes for walking on uneven terrain. Bring sunscreen and a water bottle for hot summer months.

Is the Colosseum tour totally dark or will there be any lights where we walk?

For safety reasons, the Colosseum's lights will be on for the majority of your tour so you can see where you're walking. However, it's possible that the Colosseum will turn off the floodlights during a portion of your tour to show a video. Your guide will alert you before that happens as it is a part of the tour. Otherwise, you will still get to experience the ambiance of the Colosseum at dusk or dark, depending on the time of year.

How much walking does this tour involve?

You'll be walking throughout this 2-hour tour that visits archaeological sites only accessible on foot, and with somewhat uneven terrain. Remember to wear comfortable shoes. If you have concerns about your mobility, you might prefer to take a private Colosseum tour .

Is it always dark during the tour?

The sun sets at different times, but it can stay light until quite late in the summer. This means it might not be fully dark during your Colosseum night tour.

What happens if it rains?

We run our Colosseum tours rain or shine. If rainfall is extremely heavy, the Colosseum management sometimes closes the restricted areas for safety reasons. In this case, we will refund €18 back to each person.

Why can't I book a ticket for a child who is 6 years old or younger?

For safety reasons, children 6 and under are not allowed on night tours of the Colosseum.

Why do you need my full name and birthday?

The Colosseum management recently changed their rules, which means tickets will be reserved specifically for the actual ticket holder. We'll use your name and birthday to reserve a ticket just for you, so don't forget to bring your passport or ID to the Colosseum to confirm your ticket!

Can my tour be canceled or moved to a different day?

Yes. Colosseum Underground tours are exclusive and require additional effort, but we’re experts in this field and have a large staff dedicated to customer success. If we are unable to acquire tickets on your behalf, we will let you know at least 14 days before your tour date in which case we'll add you to a comparable tour or offer a full refund.

Does this tour include Roman Forum tickets?

It doesn't since the Roman Forum will be closed at this time of day (as will Trajan Market). However, you guide will walk you along these historic sites, so you'll still get a great view and lots of interesting stories about their history.

Will there be a guide with me the whole time?

Yes, this is a guided tour, but you will have two guides. The Colosseum management will assign one of their knowledgeable guides to these evening tours and escort you safely through the Underground.

14 Epic Rome Night Tours for 2024

Rome, Italy is a magnificent capital city- it is full of history, amazing food, and beautiful views. We have spent weeks exploring Rome and still discover new favorite places beyond the most famous iconic sights. Rome is especially beautiful at night when the monuments light up, and the crowds have diminished. A Rome night tour is a fantastic way to see another side of this stunning city.

We spent six weeks in Italy during our Family Year Out, when our kids were 5 and 7. We loved exploring Rome, from touring the Colosseum to eating as much pizza and pasta as possible. As full-time travelers, we have returned several times, including to check out the Christmas markets and festive lights.

Rome has a lovely temperate climate- which makes visiting any time of year a great idea. However, in the summer, it can be quite hot, and taking advantage of the cool evenings to tour Rome at night is a great way to explore the Eternal City. During the cooler Fall and Winter months, the sun sets earlier and an evening tour of Rome is a great activity before dinner.

A night tour of Rome also provides peace of mind when venturing out after dark. While Rome is a very safe city, many people feel more comfortable being out late with a group than on their own.

In this post, we’ll cover the best night tours of Rome- from night walking tours to Vespa tours, tours of the Vatican, and other specialized tours. There’s sure to be a night tour of Rome that will be the highlight of your next trip to Rome!

These are the best night tours of Rome for every traveler- from those who want a fun new way to explore the city, like on a Vespa, a Segway, or in a cool vintage Fiat, to those interested in a special night photography tour, a food tour, or an after-hours tours of the Colosseum or Vatican.

All of these Rome night tours are a great way to avoid the crowds in any season!

1. Roman Colosseum After-Hours Night Tour

🌟 Rating: 4 Stars   ⏳ 1 1/2 Hours   ✅ After Hours, Underground Access   🔎 Check Rates

This after-hours tour of the Roman Colosseum includes the tunnels and chambers of the underground level as well as the arena floor level. This is not a long tour but offers a unique experience that is different than seeing the Colosseum during the day. You’ll get great photos of the Colosseum lit up at night, and have a guide to explain the details of what you are seeing.

“ This is definitely a very unique experience to see the Colosseum at night away from the crowds. I would highly recommend as this was a true bucket list item. “ raea_C ( Read more reviews )

The Colosseum is one of the 7 New Wonders of the World- a UNESCO World Heritage Site you don’t want to miss! I visited the Colosseum without a guide (mistake), and on a “kid-friendly tour” as a family, which was better, but not amazing.

The great thing about this night tour is you get the ambiance of the Colosseum at night, fewer crowds, and access to the lower level, which is one of the cooler parts of the Colosseum.

This tour does not include the upper levels of the Colosseum, you’ll need to visit during the day to see those. The group can accommodate up to 25 travelers.

Book Now: Roman Colosseum After-Hours Night Tour

A visit to the Colosseum is part of our suggested itinerary for 4 days in Rome . You shouldn’t visit Rome and miss this amazing piece of history!

2. VIP Rome at Night by Car

3. Vatican Museums by Night Tour

🌟 Rating: 5 Stars   ⏳ 2 1/2 Hours   ✅ Small Group, Sistine Chapel   🔎 Check Rates

The Vatican Museums are amazing, but they can be crowded and overwhelming, especially with kids in tow! This tour is after hours, when the crowds are much lower (though you will not be alone), and you won’t have to navigate on your own.

This is a small group tour of the Vatican Museums with no more than six people. This tour includes the Gallery of Maps, the Hall of Animals, the Gallery of Tapestries, the Pinecone Courtyard, Raphael’s Rooms, the Sistine Chapel, and more.

You’ll end the tour in St. Peter’s Square, where you can explore and take pictures of St. Peter’s Basilica lit up at night.

“ Tour was phenomenal, with a perfect balance of Renaissance, Roman, and Modern history combined with both informative facts and some historical gossip.” dennis_a ( Read more reviews )

This tour includes skip-the-line access and is usually scheduled for Friday, as that is when the Vatican Museums stay open later.

You can view the collection with fewer crowds, and less noise throughout the museums. The dress code for the Sistine Chapel requires that shoulders and knees be covered, regardless of gender. Photography and video are forbidden in the Sistine Chapel.

*Important: This tour runs May through October, and only on Fridays.

Book Now: Vatican Museum by Night Tour

The Vatican Museums can get incredibly crowded- when we visited during the day Waker lasted only a few minutes before deciding the crush of bodies just wasn’t worth it, and the girls and I continued on without him.

In our guide to visiting the Vatican , we recommend a family tour , which is an alternative to this night tour. Whichever you prefer, a guide and small group are essential to really enjoying these massive museum collections which can be overwhelming even without the massive crowds.

Why Take a Tour of Rome at Night?

We love night tours of Rome as an easy way to see some much of Rome. Here are a few of the top reasons to take a tour of Rome at night!

Rome can get hot. In the evenings, you’ll watch the sky fade to a beautiful sunset, and then the city will light up around you and you’ll enjoy cool evening breezes. And winter, when the sun sets earlier, even families with young kids can take a night tour to experience the magic of Rome at night and still not be out too late.

Fewer Crowds

In every season, the evening and night hours are less crowded than the daytime. Don’t worry though, Rome is still a lively place at night! Take advantage of after-hours to see major sites like the Colosseum, or enjoy a delicious food tour of Rome.

Making Friends

There are private tours available if you’d like to customize your night tour of Rome, but we always enjoy meeting new people on small group tours.

Expertise of a Local Guide

All of these tours provide background on Rome and the history of the city so you’ll learn something and get context for what you are seeing. In such a large city, it’s tempting to DIY your visit, but with a local guide, you’ll really appreciate the history of Rome, and know that you aren’t missing any details!

Safety at Night

Rome is a very safe city, and you should be safe walking around at night in the tourist districts. However, we always appreciate the added safety that numbers bring, and being on a tour means you don’t have to worry about where you are, or how you are getting home (and whether your cell phone is charged).

Exteriors Only

Most night tours of Rome will take you to see the outside of churches and monuments, as well as to viewpoints around the city. While many tours stop at the Colosseum for photos and to talk about the UNESCO World Heritage Site, most tours do not enter the Colosseum. The same holds true for the Roman Forum and other major sites.

Rome is magical, lit up at night- the monuments that Rome is famous for, from the Pantheon to the Trevi Fountain, all look different at night. Evening is also a great time to take a walking tour focused on the darker side of the city, or to explore the Roman catacombs and learn about hidden religious practices.

Even in the colder months, the cafes still put tables out on the sidewalks, with the addition of heat lamps and blankets in case you need them. We loved wandering around in the evenings when we visited in December. With twinkling lights and cozy cafes, this is a city that embraces the evenings all year round.

You can also take part in a rotating selection of interactive programming like guide-led tours, pop-up talks, and maker space activities.

As fair chance employers, Eastern State and Triple Bottom actively seek to hire people who may otherwise be excluded from the mainstream economy — including people who have experienced homelessness or incarceration — and strive to assess all qualified job candidates fairly, regardless of their background.

What kind of programming can I take part in during Night Tours?

Action Photo Tours

  • Learn how to capture the full grandeur of the night sky and incorporate foreground with both natural and carefully planned low-level lighting.
  • Professional photo instruction and critique included on all trips to help you get the highest quality night images.
  • Small group size capped at 5 people to ensure personalized instruction and individualized attention.
  • Maximize your photography time by using our expert local guides. We'll take you to the best night photography spots for the time of year you visit.
  • We have permits to guide in Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, Zion, White Pocket, Grand Staircase Escalante, Capitol Reef, and more. There's no shortage of places we can go!
  • Post-Processing Sessions can be scheduled after you return home to help maximize your images' potential.

How It Works

  • Please complete the Night Photography Booking Request Form . We need to know your preferences and when you are coming to plan the perfect outing!
  • If you want to photograph the Milky Way, plan your visit during the months of March-Oct. To see the Milky Way, we need a night with less than 20% moon illumination.
  • During the early spring months, the Milky Way is visible in the early morning hours (3-5AM).  During the summer months, it is visible most of the night. And during the autumn months, it's visible earlier in the evening (10PM-Midnight).
  • Since we can't control the weather, the exact schedule of the tour will be kept flexible. We want you to walk away with great photos no matter what the weather does. We may include a sunset or sunrise shoot as part of a night tour depending on the weather and time of year.
  • If it's too cloudy to shoot at night, we'll focus on sunset and sunrise. We are still happy to teach you our night photography techniques out in the field even if we can't take any actual night photos.
  • Night tours can be arranged as either overnight camping excursions or as hotel-based trips out of Kanab, UT.  If you want to do night photography at a remote location like White Pocket, we would need to do the overnight camping option.
  • Where we go to photograph will depend on current conditions and the time of year you visit. If you have a specific area you want to shoot, please let us know in the booking form.
  • We advise you to have some flexibility in your schedule when booking a night tour.  That will allow us to leave a little earlier or later depending on what the weather decides to do (see trip examples below).

Night Photography Workshop Escalante Utah Milky Way

Trip Details

  • Pricing:   Night tours are $599/person and include a sunset or sunrise outing along with night photography. If weather prevents us from doing night photography, you will get both a sunset and sunrise outing or the equivalent of 2 day tours.
  • Overnight Camping:   Camping is our recommendation if you want to photograph a remote location and maximize your photography. Places like Toroweap, Alstrom Point, White Pocket, Grand Staircase Escalante, and the Grand Canyon are excellent choices. Camping trips can be organized March - Oct.  We do not recommend the winter months due to possible cold temperatures. It's an extra $49/person for your camping gear and meals.
  • What to Wear:  You should check the weather forecast prior to coming on the trip. It’s best to assume that it will be colder than expected, especially since we’ll be standing around at night. Make sure you bring some warm layers, long pants, hat, and gloves. If rain or snow is in the forecast, bring a rain jacket. We recommend wearing sturdy, closed-toe footwear.
  • Food: With the exception of overnight camping trips, we don't include food on our outings. Clients need to bring their own food and we'll have coolers where you can store it.
  • Group Size: Our groups will never exceed 5 people per guide. We like to keep our photo tours small so we can give adequate individual attention.
  • Instructors:   Due to scheduling complexities, we often don't know which instructor will accompany your group until a day or two prior.  If you want a specific instructor, then please Contact Us to make your request. Although we'll do our best to make it happen, please note there are no guarantees.
  • Safety: Our guides are trained in CPR/First-Aid. All 4WD vehicles are equipped with extraction equipment and a first-aid kit. We carry a satellite beacon with us in case of emergencies outside of cell range.

Trip Examples

  • Spring Trip with Good Weather:  With clear skies in the forecast, we skip shooting sunset so we can get to bed early.  We wake up at 1AM and drive to our night shooting location. We photograph the brilliant Milky Way until it starts to get light at 5AM.  After a quick break to get some coffee and a bite to eat, we shoot sunrise and then head back to town.
  • Spring Trip with Bad Weather:  Since skies are not expected to be clear, we start early afternoon and run out to remote destination like White Pocket. The photographic opportunities are fantastic with the cloudy and dramatic skies. We return to town late, get a few hours of sleep, and then head out for a sunrise shoot at first light. The trip will conclude before lunch the next day.
  • Camping Trip : Camping overnight is the best way to maximize your photography at a remote location. For overnight camping, we recommend going to the Grand Canyon, White Pocket, Alstrom Point, and or the Grand Staircase Escalante. We depart mid-afternoon and photograph for several hours up through sunset. After eating a warm dinner, we go back out and shoot night skies for several hours. We return to our tents and get a few hours of much needed sleep. Whether or not we shoot sunrise will depend on how tired the group is and how long we stayed out the night before. We will return to town before noon the following day.
  • Fall Trip with Good Weather:  We leave town mid-afternoon en-route to our night shooting location. We photograph for several hours up through sunset, take a quick break for dinner, and then start photographing the night skies once it's completely dark. We stay out shooting until midnight and then start our drive back to Kanab.
  • Fall Trip with Bad Weather:   With cloudy skies in the forecast, we skip the night photography and do 2 different trips - a sunset trip to White Pocket and then a sunrise trip the following day in Zion.
  • Winter Trips:   Night photography can be fantastic during the winter months. The only downside is that we can't see the galactic core of the Milky Way. During winter, we like to photograph star trails and or moonscapes.

Camera Gear

  • Camera Gear:  All participants will need a sturdy tripod. Full-frame camera bodies work best for night photography. If you are using a crop-sensor body, you will get a lot more noise. A fast wide-angle lens is needed that f/2.8 or faster. Make sure you have a remote cord or intervalometer for your camera. It's a good idea to practice using your camera in the dark before you come. Don’t forget to bring a headlight!
  • Gear Rental:   We have full-frame camera bodies and f/2.8 wide angle lenses available for rent for $70. This includes tripod, backpack, batteries, and intervalometer. Clients will need to supply their own SD card.

Gitchi gitchi, ya ya da da…

Of course, experiencing the OG cabaret show deserves the top spot on your Paris bucket list.

Remember, the Moulin Rouge Cabaret Show is a performance of “Féerie”. It’s not the Broadway musical.

Created by Doris Haug and Ruggero Angeletti with choreography by Bill Goodson, Féerie unites over 100 artists on stage.

Sporting more sequins and feathers than you’d have thought possible, the Doriss Girls perform cancan dancing and acrobatics. So, this 90-minute spectacle is bold, bright, and utterly breathtaking.

Really, no other show in town can compete with this cabaret bonanza. Plus, it’s one of the coolest Paris night tours for friends and couples alike.

“It’s a ‘Must-Do’ when in Paris! The show was outstanding, the atmosphere of the theater was wonderful. Be aware that it’s crowded; get there early and be prepared to stand in line for a while. Also, the little tables are packed quite tightly together, but the audience is there for a good time-and that you will definitely have! Talented and beautiful dancers, death-defying acrobatic performers, fantastic staging and costumes… get your tickets!” Juliet ( read more reviews now )

Note, that the actual cabaret doesn’t start until around midnight. Therefore, you’ll want to grab dinner before making your way to the theater.

On that note, elegant apparel is a requirement. While feathers and rhinestones aren’t mandatory, you’re welcome to get into the spirit of things during one of the best night tours Paris has to offer.

2. Eiffel Tower’s Madame Brasserie Refined Dinner

In a food-centric country like France, you’ll find no shortage of awesome restaurants and brunch spots in Paris .

But, try as you might, you can’t top the experience of dining at the city’s number one attraction.

See, the Eiffel Tower’s Madame Brasserie Refined Dinner is located at the restaurant on the first floor of this iconic landmark.

Headed up by the Parisian chef Thierry Marx, the culinary offerings here are centered around modern, health-conscious cooking.

So, you’ll have a choice of 3 or 4 courses. Plus, all reservations include a glass of Champagne, wine, mineral water, and a coffee with dessert.

But, if you want extra refreshments, you’ll be billed accordingly during one of the best nighttime tours Paris has to offer.

You also have the option to upgrade to a seat in a privileged part of the restaurant or with a city view by the window.

Which, is totally worth the splurge. Because although the food is top-notch, the views are what you’re really here for.

“Dinner in the Eiffel Tower was superb! I had thought that this was going to be a bit gimmicky and possible of low quality when it came to food and drinks but it was entirely the opposite. The champagne on arrival was beautiful. The wine we had (two glasses each) was really good. The food was sumptuous and again of very good quality. We got a lovely table by the window which we hadn’t expected. Overall it was a great experience. Would highly recommend it as a great night out in Paris in an iconic building!” John ( read more reviews now )

Plus, you have the option of participating in a “Mystery Game” via smartphone while you wait for your nest course. Also remember that an elegant dress code applies here as usual.

Additionally, a live singer and DJ will keep you more than entertained while you dine and sail aboard this next-level awesome boat.

“We had the best time on this cruise. Dinner was very good, we circled at the Eiffel Tower and stayed there for at least 10 minutes during the light show. The music was a cabaret style singer accompanying himself of an electric piano. He played and sang various upbeat pop tunes in French and English and we ended with a dance party!” Janet ( read more reviews now )

Naturally, the route is planned to make the most of the city by night. So, you’ll definitely pass by epic Paris landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, which is beautifully illuminated in Paris at night.

4. 3-Course Dinner Cabaret Show at Paradis Latin Theater

Burlesque dancer in vibrant attire one stage art one of the best things to do in New York City at night.

⭐️ Rating: 4.7/5.0 (496 Reviews) Price: $187.29 per person Duration: 3.5 hours 📍Meeting Point: 28 Rue du Cardinal Lemoine, 75005 Paris Operator: Paradis Latin Details: Read more on Get Your Guide Now!

We already covered the emblematic Moulin Rouge spectacle on this list of the best night tours in Paris. But, you know that’s not the only cabaret in Paris!

See, this 3-course Dinner Cabaret Show at Paradis Latin Theater is an alternative (or additional) option – depending on what you want to do during your 24 hours in Paris .

Now, the Paradis Latin Cabaret is technically a show that has been operating since the Belle Epoque era.

However, this immortal performance of the French Cancan prides itself on being more tailored toward a modern audience.

Here, poetry and dance are combined with passion and emotions rarely experienced on stage.

Now, as this booking includes dinner, you’ll want to show up with an appetite since the menu is refreshed seasonally and you have a choice of three tiers.

“We booked the prestige meal and I think this contributed to 2 excellent seats front and centre in the theatre. Surprisingly the pre-show act was excellent and the food was top notch – foie gras, monk fish curry and a set of Herme desserts. The culinary skill exhibited for providing meals to an audience of 400 at the same time was exemplary. Now, to the show. Not as lascivious at Crazy Horses but wow, a real West End style treat full of energy, colour, beauty and inventiveness. This is the best cabaret show in Paris for me. 4 hours of entertainment start to finish for the price of a good meal in a decent restaurant, so good value for money as well. We will go back. Essential experience.” James ( read more reviews now )

The Gustave Eiffel Menu is the entry-level option while the Prestige Menu is more decadent. But, both include the same amount of wine and Champagne.

Another comparison – Paradis Latin starts earlier than the Moulin Rouge. Therefore, this might be better if you have an early start the following day but still want to enjoy one of the best evening tours in Paris.

“Romain and his cute little car Clementine made our short stay in Paris. Through the dazzling lights at night we saw everything we wanted to see. Champagne under the Eiffel Tower was the pie’ce de resistance’. 10 out of 10, highly recommended this tour.” Jeff ( read more reviews now )

Bad Bunny Electrifies NYC: 5 Standout Moments from His Most Wanted Tour

An equestrian entrance, a jigsaw-like stage, and over two hours of hits: here are the most memorable moments from his Barclays Center performance on Thursday night.

Bad Bunny

On Thursday night (April 11), the Barclays Center in New York City was electrified by the presence of Bad Bunny . The arena, filled to its 19,000-person capacity, buzzed with anticipation as the Puerto Rican superstar kicked off the first show of his three-night stint in the city.

“New York has been very important in my career, where dreams come true,” Benito told his fans in his native Spanish during the performance. “Being on the tour feels really amazing, going to each place and seeing it, all the cities, but New York, it’s something else. It feels more amazing than usual. Seeing all those PR and DR flags makes it even more special. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being here, it means a lot to me.”

Bad Bunny — who wore Prada sunglasses, a velour suit, and a gold cross necklace — delivered a dynamic performance that was an amalgamation of music and spectacle. It included a grand orchestra, an equestrian entrance, a surprise appearance by Bryant Myers to perform “Seda,” a jigsaw-like stage that transformed into the Brooklyn Bridge, and, of course, a repertoire of his biggest hits. (Here’s the complete setlist of the tour, which slightly changed to add “Amorfoda” and “Tití Me Preguntó.”)

This was part of his Most Wanted Tour — in support of his Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana album — which kicked off on Feb. 21 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Live Nation-promoted tour is halfway through its schedule, with forthcoming performances in cities including Austin, Texas (Apr. 26-27), Atlanta, Ga. (May 14-15), and Miami, Fla. (May 24-26). See the full dates here .

According to Billboard Boxscore, the tour has already been a commercial success, grossing $84.2M and selling 282K tickets over its first 18 shows. It has consistently sold out venues, demonstrating Bad Bunny’s continued widespread appeal.

Here are five standout moments from the first night of Bad Bunny’s Most Wanted Tour at the Barclays Center:

The Grandeur of an Orchestra

Bad Bunny’s grand entrance was enhanced by the stirring symphonic sounds of a grand orchestra. Setting a triumphant tone reminiscent of a championship bout or a cinematic Rocky Balboa moment, the orchestra filled the arena with melodious harmony for 10 minutes as the show commenced at 9:30 p.m. Adding to the immersive experience, orchestra members made surprise appearances throughout the audience, accompanying Bad Bunny’s rhythms, particularly during the opening numbers, “Nadie Sabe” and “Monaco.”

An Equestrian Entrance

Bad Bunny during his Most Wanted Tour in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The concert’s midway moment was marked by Bad Bunny’s dramatic arrival on a horse , embodying a masked cowboy in a fuschia outfit with fringes. Despite previous criticism from PETA, the superstar displayed gentleness towards the horse, who was also accompanied by a trainer. As arguably the first reggaetón artist to incorporate a horse into his act, he joins the ranks of regional Mexican icons like Joan Sebastian, Vicente Fernández, and Pepe Aguilar, who uphold this tradition.

Playing 'Amorfoda' on a Piano Upside Down

Displaying his entertainment abilities in unconventional ways, Bad Bunny played the first keys of “Amorfoda” on the piano — notably, upside down atop the instrument — to the astonishment of the audience. He also delivered a soulful rendition of “un x100to” accompanied solely by the piano, marking a poignant moment in the two-and-a-half-hour concert.

Surprise Guest Performance by Bryant Myers

The concert was further enlivened by a surprise performance from Bryant Myers, who joined Bunny on stage to perform “Seda” from Bunny’s latest album, Nadie Sabe . Their collaboration stretches back to 2017 with the hit “Pa Ti.” Previously, Myers had also made a surprise appearance at BB’s Los Angeles show in March. Their joy in their longstanding musical partnership was evident in their performances.

A Jigsaw-Like Stage Morphing into the Brooklyn Bridge

The stage was a dynamic piece of artwork, constantly shifting forms throughout the concert. With two stages positioned at opposite ends of the arena, and a bridge-like catwalk in between, the stage at one point transformed into an impressive replica of the Brooklyn Bridge, made possible by intricate light work. This captivating visual element added a unique dimension to the concert experience.

Taylor Swift shocker: New album, "The Tortured Poets Department," is actually a double album

By Alex Sundby , Brian Dakss

Updated on: April 19, 2024 / 10:28 PM EDT / CBS News

Anticipation was growing at a fever pitch before Taylor Swift's latest album, " The Tortured Poets Department ," dropped at midnight EDT. But the pop superstar had a huge surprise on tap: It's actually a double album.

When Part One dropped, Swift wrote on Instagram , "All's fair in love and poetry... New album THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT. Out now 🤍"

Then came the shocker, revealed in an Instagram post saying , "It's a 2am surprise: The Tortured Poets Department is a secret DOUBLE album. ✌️ I'd written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so here's the second installment of TTPD: The Anthology. 15 extra songs. And now the story isn't mine anymore… it's all yours. 🤍."

What's Taylor Swift's new album about?

Swift described the album as "new works that reflect events, opinions and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time — one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure."

She also said that time has been "closed and boarded up. There is nothing to avenge, no scores to settle once wounds have healed. And upon further reflection, a good number of them turned out to be self-inflicted."

"Entertainment Tonight" correspondent Denny Directo called the record some of her most vulnerable work.

"Fans were left with more questions than there were answers, so good luck trying to decipher who these songs are about, what they mean," Directo told CBS News. "… I feel like there's more heartbreak songs on this than there are love songs."

Hours ahead of the record's release, Swift said on social media that its first single was "Fortnight," featuring Post Malone, and its music video was released Friday night .

Swift praised the Grammy-nominated artist's musical experimentation and melodies "that just stick in your head forever."

"I got to witness that magic come to life firsthand when we worked together on Fortnight," Swift said in her post .

"Fortnight" isn't the only track on the album on which Swift worked with another artist. Florence and The Machine is also featured.

What's on "The Tortured Poets Department" tracklist?

Swift posted an initial tracklist to social media in February one day after she announced the album at  the Grammys , where she won for best pop vocal album. Here's the list of all 31 songs:

  • "Fortnight"
  • "The Tortured Poets Department"
  • "My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys"
  • "So Long, London"
  • "But Daddy I Love Him"
  • "Fresh Out the Slammer"
  • "Florida!!!"
  • "Guilty as Sin?"
  • "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?"
  • "I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)"
  • "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart"
  • "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived"
  • "The Alchemy"
  • "Clara Bow"
  • "The Black Dog"
  • "imgonnagetyouback"
  • "The Albatross"
  • "Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus"
  • "How Did It End?"
  • "So High School"
  • "I Hate It Here"
  • "thanK you aIMee"
  • "I Look in People's Windows"
  • "The Prophecy"
  • "Cassandra"
  • "The Bolter"
  • "The Manuscript"

Costa Rica is world-famous for its wildlife , but many of its most interesting creatures are nocturnal. So if you want to see rare frogs, possums, anteaters, and more, then a night tour in La Fortuna is a must.

La Fortuna is a dream destination for wildlife lovers and adventure seekers. From ziplining to touring local waterfalls , there are so many amazing things to do in La Fortuna . In fact, we loved it so much that we ended up living here for a while!

The best way to spot wildlife at night is by joining a tour. These tours are largely run by local experts in the area, and they really love teaching people about the importance of the natural world in La Fortuna. We loved having a guide who knew the landscape well and made sure that we didn’t miss anything under the cover of darkness.

We highly recommend adding a night tour to your Costa Rica itinerary . After participating in plenty of night tours in La Fortuna, we’ve rounded up our top five picks to make sure that you get to see as much of its amazing wildlife as possible.

About the Wildlife in La Fortuna at Night

The wildlife in La Fortuna is amazing during the day, but a whole host of different creatures come out to play after dark.

Nighttime is the best time to see an array of Costa Rica’s unique tropical frogs such as red-eyed frogs, gladiator frogs, and the rare blue jeans frog. Many of the country’s snakes, lizards, and other reptiles are also nocturnal, so you’ll get to see plenty of those too!

There are also many famous birds to see , such as the black-and-white owl, and you’ll be able to spot diurnal birds (birds that are active during the day) sleeping in the trees. Having a guide is really handy for spotting snoozing birds, as they know exactly where they like to sleep.

La Fortuna plays host to a whole range of nocturnal mammals at night too. It’s the best time to spot ocelots, and if you’re really lucky you might even see a jaguar! We’d be here all day if we listed absolutely all of the creatures you might see in La Fortuna at night, but you’re likely to spot lots of sloths , bats, kinkajous, olingos, possums, and plenty of monkeys.

A night tour is also a great way to see some of Costa Rica’s most interesting insects. You can see tarantulas, snails, beetles, and we even saw a bullet ant! This species is said to have the most painful sting on the entire planet, so we were very glad to have our guide with us to point out this tiny beast.

Best Night Tours in La Fortuna

1. night walk around the arenal volcano.

A green snake on a night tour in La Fortuna, Costa Rica

Arenal Volcano is one of the must-visit volcanoes in Costa Rica and turns out, it’s also one of the best places to spot wildlife at night in La Fortuna.  This Arenal Volcano walking tour  takes you on a guided hike around the foot of the volcano to spot the fascinating nocturnal creatures that live here.

There’s so much to see in this area, but some of the top creatures to spot include howler, squirrel, and white-faced monkeys. You might even see coatis, which I always find so cute! There are also tons of frogs and reptiles around, such as bocaracá vipers, red-eyed tree frogs, and toads. The guides are very passionate and take the time to point out the park’s amazing flora, like orchids, bromeliads, and different ferns and mosses.

This tour is also a great opportunity to spot plenty of sleeping birds, like toucans, parrots, and hummingbirds.  Costa Rica is actually known for the extensive species of birds that thrive here.

One of our favorite parts of this tour was seeing the sky light up with fireflies. It created a really magical atmosphere in the rainforest.

We love going on tours in La Fortuna because the guides are super knowledgeable and friendly. They take their time to teach you about the natural history of the area, like how the Arenal and Cerro Chatos volcanoes were formed. Plus, they are super helpful when it comes to snapping amazing photos of the surrounding wildlife – after all, it’s only right that you get some amazing pictures to make everyone back home super jealous.

The meeting place for this tour is Mirador el Silencio , and they also offer round-trip transportation to nearby hotels. The tour costs $49 USD per adult and starts at 5:30 pm, and the guided walk lasts about 2.5 hours which is plenty of time to spot a whole host of nocturnal wildlife. This is a great option for families, and children 3 and under are free. We also love that it’s a small group tour with a maximum of 10 people.

If you’re ready for a fun evening spotting wildlife around Arenal Volcano, reserve your spot online here !

2. Rainforest Night Walk and Authentic Costa Rican Dinner

A tarantula on a night tour in La Fortuna, Costa Rica

This night walk and dinner tour  was one of the best experiences we’ve had in Costa Rica – we saw so many amazing creatures!

You’ll be picked up around 5 pm and then you’ll go on a 1.5-hour guided hike around La Fortuna’s mirrored lakes to the frog sanctuary. You’ll get to see both the biggest and smallest types of frog in Costa Rica – the bullfrog and the dart frog – as well as glass frogs and red-eyed tree frogs. Basically, if you’re into amphibians, this is the tour for you!

On top of a rainbow assortment of frogs, we also saw a huge green lizard and even a bullet ant, which made us super thankful that we were with our guide – you do not want to get stung by one of those bad boys. There are also sloths and toucans in the area, as well as tons of insects like beetles and some huge crickets.

After the nature walk, you’ll enjoy a traditional Costa Rican dinner , which will be cooked over a wood-burning stove. While there are plenty of amazing restaurants in La Fortuna , there’s something special about a locally prepared meal, and we can honestly say that the one we got on this tour was one of the best we’ve had in the entire country.

This tour costs $65 USD per person and lasts approximately 4 hours. The price includes entry to the frog reserve, hotel pickup and drop-off, and a delicious family-style dinner, so we definitely think it’s a great value for the money.

See how many frogs you can spot by booking this highly-rated night walk – it has tons of 5-star reviews you can read before you book!

3. Night tour through the Tropical Forest at Tifakara

A frog on a night tour in La Fortuna, Costa Rica

This Tifakara night tour  is a self-drive option, so it’s a good way to save money if you’ve already got a rental car in La Fortuna. It begins at the Tifakara Lodge (which is one of the most amazing places to stay in La Fortuna , just FYI) and then takes you on a guided night walk through the rainforest near the Arenal Volcano.

You’ll get to enjoy an hour-long walk through two different frog sanctuaries on this tour , so this is another fantastic way to see all of the multicolored frogs in La Fortuna. You’re likely to see blue jeans frogs, glass frogs, and red-eyed tree frogs, just to name a few! Plus, there are plenty of sloths, snakes, tarantulas, and beautiful flowers as you go.

After the tour, you’ll receive a complimentary beer, wine, or cocktail by the pool at the Tifakara Lodge, which is the perfect way to round off the evening. The lodge is nestled right into the rainforest, so you might get lucky and spot even more wildlife while you’re enjoying your drink!

This is a small group tour with a maximum of 10 people, so you’ll receive plenty of attention from your guide and have lots of opportunities to ask questions. It’s a great option for anyone limited on time as it only lasts an hour. This tour costs $32 USD per person and begins at 7:15 pm.

If you’re looking to fit a quick night tour into your busy schedule, reserve this 1-hour tropical forest night walk online here .

4. La Fortuna Ecocentro Danaus Night Tour

A lizard on a night tour in La Fortuna, Costa Rica

You’ll spot bats, reptiles, and frogs galore on  this nighttime jungle tour in La Fortuna ! You’ll meet at the Daunus Ecocenter , which is a 10-minute drive from the town center, so this is another great option for those who are driving in Costa Rica .

From the Ecocenter, you’ll begin a 2-hour guided walk through the jungle to spot a whole host of nocturnal wildlife. The Ecocenter is very close to Sloth’s Territory , so you’re likely to see lots of these cute creatures lazing around in the trees, as well as tons of frogs, bats, and creepy crawlies! You can also spot ringed kingfishers resting in the trees as well as sleeping butterflies.

This is another small group tour of no more than 10 people, and your guides will help you capture picture-perfect snaps of the animals and insects you see along the way. The tour guides really know their stuff, so you’ll be sure to learn plenty of details about the creatures you see and discover more about La Fortuna’s vibrant plant life, too.

This tour requires a booking of at least two people with a cost of $73-$80 USD per person (although we’ve seen it even cheaper than that on Viator !). It lasts for 2 hours and you can choose to go at 5:30, 6:30, or 7 pm, so it’s easy to fit in even if your schedule is already pretty full. We personally recommend going at 5:30 pm because this is when the wildlife is the most active. The daytime creatures are settling in for the night and the nocturnal species are just waking up, so you get to see even more action!

If this sounds like the perfect night tour for you, purchase your tickets in advance .

5. Frog Watching Night Walk

Green tree frog on night tour in La Fortuna, Costa Rica

There are 149 known species of frogs in Costa Rica, and while we can’t promise you’ll see them all on this frog watching night walk , it’s certainly a good place to start!

The tour begins at one of the top ecolodges in Costa Rica , the Arenal Oasis Eco Lodge , where you’ll meet your guide and head out on foot to explore easy walking trails. This tour takes off at 5:45 pm, which is the perfect time to spot an abundance of frogs because the daytime species haven’t gone to sleep and the nocturnal frogs are just waking up and starting to make noise.

Your guide will take you past frog ponds and through the forest to see tons of different species. You’ll even have the chance to see glass frogs, which are almost impossible to spot in the wild since they’re translucent and do an amazing job of blending into their surroundings.

You might catch a glimpse of some blue jeans frogs or black and green poison dart frogs too. It’s so cool to see these creatures in their natural habitat, and being with a guide who can teach you interesting facts about these animals really adds to the experience.

More than likely, you’ll also see plenty of other creatures such as snakes, crickets, spiders, and birds along the way.

This walking tour costs $52 USD per person, and the group size caps at 8 people so it’s a super personal and close-knit adventure. The guides are so passionate and enthusiastic, and they really have an amazing ability to spot tiny creatures we would never have seen on our own!

We love this tour, and if you want to experience exploring the area around this incredible eco lodge yourself purchase your ticket tickets with Viator .

What to Wear on a Night Tour in La Fortuna?

You’ll need to wear some comfortable, closed-toed shoes to protect your feet from the forest floor. It’s still pretty warm at night in La Fortuna so it’s a good idea to wear lightweight, breathable clothing.

We also recommend wearing long pants and long sleeves, as bugs and mosquitos abound in these parts! Bring insect repellent and a flashlight too, as you’ll be in the rainforest most of the time.

We had the freshest cup of coffee and tasted amazing homemade chocolate on  this Costa Rican coffee and chocolate experience  that takes place on a small family-owned plantation.
  • Hot springs – One of the best free activities in La Fortuna is the natural hot springs! The Free Natural Hot Spring River is a public river running through the  Tabacon Hot Springs Resort . Where to Stay in La Fortuna, Costa Rica

Bailey in a spa at Casa Luna Hotel, La Fortuna

Because La Fortuna is such a big tourist town, there are a ton of amazing places to stay. We even wrote an entire blog about  the best hotels in La Fortuna . However, to make it super easy, we’ve narrowed it down to our top places for each price point. So keep reading to find one that suits your needs (and budget!).

The Springs Resort & Spa at Arenal – $$$

For arguably the most luxurious hotel in La Fortuna, check out  The Springs Resort & Spa at Arenal . While the rooms don’t come cheap ($600 USD+), it’s a bucket list place to stay that’s perfect for  visiting Costa Rica on a honeymoon !

You’ll find 28 hot spring pools here, making the resort the perfect place if you really want to relax. There’s also a resort-style pool, a fitness center, a swim-up bar, hot tubs, and a spa and wellness center. You can reserve a room at The Springs Resort & Spa at Arenal  on Booking.com .

Casa Luna Hotel & Spa – $$

Those with a medium budget should check out  Casa Luna Hotel & Spa . I stayed here on my first visit to La Fortuna and loved it. The property is beautiful, with a large pool and four hot tubs surrounded by nature. You can also enjoy the tropical botanic garden at the hotel.

Casa Luna Hotel & Spa is near Arenal Volcano National Park, and all the rooms have views of the volcano and the rainforest. The hotel also includes a delicious breakfast, and rooms run about $200 USD a night. Casa Luna is located a short drive from town, and you can reserve a room online on  Booking.com here .

Selina La Fortuna – $

One of the go-to budget options is  Selina La Fortuna . I’ve stayed in Selina hostels around the world and this is a great one. It has a fun party atmosphere and a great co-working space where we spend a lot of time.

Selina La Fortuna is located right in the middle of town, so you have easy access to great bars and restaurants nearby. Rates begin at $26 USD for a one-night stay in a dorm and $124 USD for a one-night stay in a private room. You can check availability and book on  Booking.com or through Hostelworld.com .

Getting Around Costa Rica

Bailey with our rental car near Rio Celeste Costa Rica

How you choose to get around Costa Rica is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make when planning your holiday here! How you do it depends on your budget, travel style, and comfort level.

Renting a Car

Without a doubt, the number one way to explore Costa Rica is in a rental car. We book rental cars on the Discover Cars website as we have had good experiences with them in the past.

One of the things you need to watch for when renting a car in Costa Rica is the mandatory insurance that the government requires you to have. There are a lot of very cheap rentals that don’t include this mandatory insurance (TPL) in the original booking price, but there are also ones that do. To avoid additional surprise charges when you pick up your rental car, be sure to rent a car that includes the mandatory insurance when you book.

Thankfully, on Discover Cars it’s easy to tell apart the companies that include the mandatory insurance and those that don’t. The trick is you can’t pick any car on their website. In the picture below, you can see this rental car, with pick up in Jaco, includes the TPL. That means the mandatory insurance is included in the price. Any cover you get above that is extra.

Of course, I still suggest getting the full coverage offered by Discover Cars, which covers you even more.

You can  browse cars on Discover Cars here .

TPL Cover Costa Rica

Book Shuttles

If renting a car isn’t in your budget, you don’t feel comfortable driving in Costa Rica , or you just don’t like driving, shuttles are the next best option. There are hundreds of shuttle routes available all over the country, and they are very affordable.

Shuttles in Costa Rica are specifically for tourists and often include pick up and drop off at your selected hotels and airports. The drivers also speak some English, and the vehicles have air conditioning. You’ll also be guaranteed a seat when you book a shuttle (which isn’t the case with the public bus system.)

To get the best price, use the website  Bookaway . They compare all the offers and prices of shuttle companies in Costa Rica so you get the best price! Honestly, we have saved so much money using Bookaway!

You can search for shuttles online on Bookaway here.

Lastly, you can use the public bus system. On short journeys, such as from San Jose to La Fortuna or Uvita to Manuel Antonio, this system is great. However, the longer the journey the more hassle and time spent on a bus. It’s undoubtedly best to save the public bus in Costa Rica for short and straightforward trips!

The public buses are definitely the cheapest way to get around Costa Rica, but they are not always very reliable and schedules often change without notice and delays are to be expected. The buses can also be very crowded and hot – so just be prepared!

It’s also good to speak some Spanish if you plan on riding the public bus since most drivers and ticket booth operators don’t speak English.

Joining a night tour is such a unique activity to do in La Fortuna. You get to see tons of different animals like birds, snakes, spiders, and plenty of frogs. It’s a really cool experience and it’s amazing to hear the sounds of the rainforest at night.

We hope you enjoyed this list and maybe even found a night tour you’re excited to take! We have tons of blogs about Costa Rica and would love to pass on some of our favorite recommendations so you can have an awesome vacation. We’ve listed some articles below and hope you enjoy them!

Tram crash at Universal Studios Hollywood leaves over a dozen injured. What happened?

A tram crashed at a Universal Studios theme park in Southern California on Saturday night, leaving 15 people injured.

Several passengers fell off the tram in the crash, which unfolded during a studio tour, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's office told USA TODAY in a statement.

The theme park confirmed in a separate statement that the “tram incident” had resulted in “multiple minor injuries.”

“We are working to support our guests and understand the circumstances that led to the accident,” the theme park said.

What happened in the tram crash?

The crash came during the World-Famous Studio Tour of the Universal backlot. The four-car tram had just passed a "Jurassic Park" exhibit and was negotiating a turn when the last car collided with a metal guardrail, "causing it to tilt and eject multiple passengers," the California Highway Patrol said in a crash report.

“There was some type of issue with the brakes,” Sheriff's Lt. Maria Abal told the Los Angeles Times. “We don’t exactly know what yet.”

An emergency call around 9 p.m. Saturday summoned rescuers to the park, which is part of the Universal Studios complex in Universal City in San Fernando Valley.

Fifteen tram passengers were taken to the hospital for treatment of "minor to moderate injuries," the Highway Patrol said, adding that drugs and alcohol were not considered to be factors. The agency will continue to investigate.

Aerial footage from KCAL-TV in Los Angeles showed paramedics treating several injured patrons and removing at least one on a stretcher.

A tram at the theme park can hold more than 100 people, Abal told the Times. She did not know how many people were on board at the time of the crash.

The tram tour is a top-drawer attraction at the theme park, according to its  website . The park is celebrating the ride’s 60 th  anniversary. The tram takes patrons behind the curtain on iconic movie sets, including “Jaws,” “King Kong” and “Fast & Furious.”

Lane Kiffin does tunnel walk for country music star’s concert, refuses to wear Peyton Manning jersey

Lane Kiffin joined Morgan Wallen’s entourage on Saturday night in Oxford for the country music star’s “One Night At A Time Tour.”

The Ole Miss coach was a part of the tunnel walk, but the 48-year-old coach refused a request by Wallen to wear a Peyton Manning jersey. Wallen, a Tennessee fan and native of Sneedville, no doubt was giving Kiffin, who was the head coach of the Vols in 2009, a hard time.

Kiffin has been a fan of Wallen for some time. Wallen was scheduled to play a concert at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium last year, but the date was among those canceled due to vocal issues for the singer.

In fact, last year, when college football instituted a revised clock rule, Kiffin cited the country music singer when giving his take on the rule.

“So do you guys buy tickets to go see ⁦Morgan Wallen or Taylor Swift or your favorite concerts and want a few less songs at the end?” he asked in September of 2023 . “With all the issues in college football this is what you actually made a change to?”

The clock no longer stops after teams get first downs unless it’s the last two minutes of the half. The goal is to shorten games, but some coaches have taken issue with it.

Scottie Scheffler holds massive 5-shot lead as RBC Heritage is called for darkness, set for Monday finish

Scottie Scheffler will have to wait.

Scheffler, who is just a week removed from his second career win at the Masters , came close to picking up his second straight PGA Tour win on Sunday afternoon. Scheffler held a massive five-shot lead over the field when play was called due to darkness at Harbour Town on Sunday night. Scheffler has just three holes to go to close out the RBC Heritage.

While much of the field got their rounds done, Scheffler will head back out to the 16th tee box at 8 a.m. to wrap up his final round. Either way, his win at the RBC Heritage is all but sealed up.

Scheffler entered Saturday's round in South Carolina three shots off the lead, but he quickly jumped to the top of the leaderboard just seven holes later. He finished his third round with a bogey-free 63, which gave him a one-shot advantage headed into Sunday.

While Wyndham Clark put a bit of pressure on Scheffler early on Sunday — Clark posted a 29 on his front nine with five birdies and an eagle, and then finished his final round 65 to get to 15-under on the week — Scheffler didn't miss a step. He chipped in for eagle at the second to immediately get under par for his round, and then took a three-shot lead at the turn. Scheffler pushed that lead to four shots when play was called for more than two hours due to weather, too.

Scheffler made one last birdie before play was called for the night on Sunday, and he sank a clutch par putt on the 15th green after hitting it into the water earlier on the hole to maintain his lead after the horn had sounded.

Clark was the only golfer at 15-under to finish for the day. Patrick Cantlay, J.T. Poston and Sahith Theegala are all in a tie with him at second with a few holes to go. Justin Thomas is in a tie for sixth, though he's done with his tournament. Ludvig Aberg — who finished in second last week at Augusta National — and Patrick Rodgers are both with Thomas at 14-under on the week. They'll finish up on Monday morning, too.

Assuming Scheffler can win on Monday morning, it will mark his 10th career victory on the PGA Tour. He'll be the third-fastest to hit that mark behind only Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. Scheffler will enter a 49th consecutive week at No. 1 in the Official World Golf Rankings on Monday morning regardless of the finish.

Scheffler will be just the third Masters winner to win the following week on Tour if he can close out the win, too, and the first since did so in 1985. Gary Player was the first to pull that off in 1978. Scheffler will also the first major championship winner to win the following week on Tour since Woods in 2006.
