Amyra Dastur, Mallika Dua contribute to screenplay of their upcoming web series The Trip 2

The Trip 2 will be launched in September and will reportedly feature a journey full of twists and turns, self-discovery and romance

A sequel of the hit 2016 series, The Trip features Amyra Dastur , Mallika Dua, Sapna Pabbi and Shweta Tripathi. As reported earlier, the shooting for The Trip 2 began in Pondicherry in July, 2018.

The first season that aired on Bindass in 2016 followed the story of four friends, Anjali (Swetha Tripathi), Sanjana (Sapna Pabbi), Nazia (Mallika Dua) and Shonali (Lisa Haydon) who head out on a bachelorette trip to Thailand after Anjali announces that she is getting married to a boy who proposed to her at their second meeting.

While shooting for The Trip 2 , Amyra’s social media was abuzz with images and videos of the actors having a blast on the set. But one particular co-actor, Mallika Dua and Amyra reportedly hit it off like a house on fire. Dastur has been roped in to play Ira, one of the four leads in Bindass’ original web series. This will mark the actress’ first role in the digital space. Lisa Haydon, who plays a budding musician, will reportedly not be a part of the second season.

Dastur and Dua, who apparently have starkly different personalities brought about a fresh mix of humour while their shooting schedules were on. “When we played off one another in the scenes, the ad lib just came in organically. It’s great to work with a Director that allows her actors to improvise. Sonam loved it and encouraged our input during the shoot,” said Dastur about her rapport with Dua.

Their jokes and videos became so popular even on the sets that the director knew she had to cash in on this comedy gold. The director got Amyra and Mallika Dua to write and add more scenes to their part of the script. Amyra, who plays Mallika’s cousin sister, interacts with her in all these scenes. The two would sit for hours figuring out dialogues and actions that would make audiences laugh even more.

The Trip 2 will be launched in September and will reportedly feature a journey full of twists and turns, self-discovery and romance.

Ira is really quirky, odd and very independent. Brief was to incorporate a gypsy, wanderer type of style in order to show off the difference between Amyra and the rest of the girls. (Image: Special Arrangement)

Even the Indian wear which she wears is more on the gypsy zone, ‘don’t mess with me’ kind of vibe. Her style is very out there and it’s definitely in the Bohemian zone but as one can see, the prints are mixed and don’t match. It’s meant to show off her rebellious nature. The key to understanding Conan O’Brien’s comedy is knowing that it comes from a point of kindness. Yes, I know in this age of comics punching down , this kind of compliment may leave you with a neon “Must Avoid!” sign flashing in your bleary eyes — but stay with me.

Conan’s three-decade run as a talk show host ended in 2021 under less-than-optimal circumstances , as he wound down his TBS show during the pandemic year. He talked to longtime sidekick Andy Richter , who sat among dozens of cardboard cutout fans. O’Brien quipped that they were last in line for the vaccine because the CDC had looked at the shows and “they said ours is the least essential of pretty much all the non-essential shows.”

There was some truth in that, but Conan had already started his move to other outlets , starting with his “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” podcast in 2018.

The podcast is funny and sweet, especially the pre-interview segments with longtime associate Sona Movsesian and producer Matt Gourley. Conan mocks Sona’s legendarily bad work habits. and Gourley’s flea market predilections, but any kind of comedic acid is reserved for the self-lacerating O’Brien. (On a recent episode, Conan runs down his own looks, and it is cruel and hilarious, but part of me is thinking, “Dude, cut yourself a break.”). The only time things get contentious is when Conan visited by longtime friend Kevin Nealon — perhaps the podcast’s best episodes.

The podcast had an offshoot called “Conan O’Brien Needs a Fan,” on which O’Brien would talk to a fan, often in a faraway land. That led to O’Brien traveling to Norway, Thailand, Ireland and Argentina to meet them. Why? Well, a dour and ominous narrator, aka Werner Herzog, offered this rationale at the beginning of each episode: “Once a proud talk show host, he’s been driven by a changing ecosystem to a drier and harsher climate: the weekly podcast. Here , without the nourishment of his studio audience, this clown with dull , tiny eyes, the eye of a crudely painted doll , is forced to feed on that meagerest of morsels: the random call-in fan. Unhinged by the feral scent of their mild enthusiasm. He scavenges in distant lands uninvited, fueled by a bottomless hunger for recognition , and the occasional selfie.”

It’s a self-deprecating bit, but it’s also the truth. Conan has been doing travel shows for years, most notably one to Movsesian’s native Armenia , as well as a chaotic trip to Finland where O’Brien is treated as a god because of his physical resemblance to the Finnish president who happens to be a woman. He clearly loves the journey. And he loves the comedy set piece–see his classic “Old Timey Baseball” opus — which has always been an essential part of his appeal.

The encounters work because O’Brien doesn’t treat his new friends as fools — rather , he revels in the fact that he is the fool. (See his instant-classic appearance on “Hot Ones,” the show where interviews are conducted while the celebrity consumes increasingly acidic chicken wings. Conan rhapsodizes on comedy being all around us as green-yellow mucus drips down his nose.) Of course, there are exceptions made for old friends. Conan goes out for asada in Buenos Aires with the effete and erudite Jordan Schlansky, a longtime producer and frenemy. Schlansky and Conan are the Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon of American cable , and on his TBS show and podcast the two have tangled over Japanese customs, Conan hosting Schlansky’s bachelor party in his own office, and Schlansky hiding an expensive Espresso machine in an inaccessible part of their offices. (As with the Courtney Thorne-Smith segment, Conan’s visceral malice toward Schlansky works because it is so out-of-character).

During the Argentina episode, they get into a fierce argument about the proper pronunciation of the word “tango,” Conan then licks Schlansky’s favorite cut of meat — wait, that came out wrong. After, they go on an ill-fated trip to the Pampas, where both fail spectacularly at gaucho life.

Not everything works. O’Brien does a self-referential bit about the expensive drone he is using on the first show , and for the next four episodes I am distracted every time I see a beautiful shot thinking about the drone’s specifications and capabilities. Some of the stuff goes on a bit long, but so does my writing.

These are minor quibbles. If you’re a Conan fan, you’ll treasure the trips, just like his completists treasure encounters with a masturbating bear. The series ends with Conan tracing his family’s roots in Ireland. He comes across his ancestor’s land, makes a few jokes, but then looks at the land, clearly moved. Conan O’Brien has played the fool long enough; we grant him this moment of humanity with all our hearts.

Shweta Tripathi wants to challenge herself with each project and says she does not want to play safe. Be it Masaan, or Haraamkhor or Zoo or Trip 2, Shweta has explored diverse roles in her career. And she wants to continue doing so.

“From Masaan, Haraamkhor or Zoo in which I play a drug addict, I try that all my characters are drastically different from each other. Because otherwise I will get bored,” Shweta said.

“You have to push the boundary, do something that people haven’t seen before because then it is exciting for them. Even in Trip 2, all my looks are different,” she added.

The challenges come with some risks. But the actor says risk is fun.

“I don’t want to play safe. Because there are a lot of people who are playing it safe and I don’t want to be one of them.”

At the moment, Shweta is receiving appreciation for her role in Trip 2, which premiered on all Bindass platforms including YouTube on October 5.

The first season brought us a plot that revolved around four childhood friends who go on a road trip to Thailand to celebrate a bachelorette party. The journey, however, turns into an emotional roller-coaster for the girls.

“I want to be choosy about the work I do and that is why I am proud of all my projects and very happy to be associated. The first season was a big hit and that makes you happy. Because that makes you realise that lot of people are relating with it.

“For an actor, that is very important because that is why we do stuff so that people understand our world, and take away something for themselves from it,” added the actress, who will soon be seen in web series Mirzapur.

Jake Irvin delivers as Nationals beat Dodgers again to close road trip

LOS ANGELES — It was only fitting that Jake Irvin’s start Wednesday afternoon at Dodger Stadium ended the way it did: with a high fastball in on the hands of Los Angeles catcher Will Smith.

It was the sixth pitch of the at-bat. The Washington Nationals right-hander had thrown five four-seamers in a row. For his sixth pitch, he didn’t deviate from the plan: He fired a fastball by Smith, notching his sixth strikeout in the Nationals’ 2-0 victory, which sealed a series win against one of the best teams in the majors.

Irvin allowed four hits and one walk as he benefited from strong defense behind him, especially from second baseman Luis García Jr.

“They’re really good hitters and a really good lineup,” said Irvin, who has a 3.13 ERA after four starts. “But at the end of the day, they got to put the ball in play. The thought was just go into attack mode, don’t give them anything free, and make them earn it.”

Irvin didn’t miss many bats as a rookie last season — his whiff percentage was 17.8, which he has raised to 21.6 this year. (The major league average is 24.8 percent.) He was at 28.2 percent Wednesday, and with his fastball, he got nine whiffs on 24 swings (37.5 percent).

“He was using his fastball both in and out, attacking the zone,” Manager Dave Martinez said. “When he needed to throw a breaking ball, he did, but his fastball was electric.”

The Nationals (8-10) trekked to Los Angeles following an underwhelming three-game set at Oakland that could have ended with a series win or even a sweep. Instead, they won just once. But they rebounded with two wins in three games against the Dodgers (12-9), and Irvin was a major reason for that.

He could have gone beyond the sixth inning, too, but Martinez opted to pull him after 73 pitches. Irvin had cruised through the Dodgers’ lineup with relative ease, allowing just five base runners. And he had thrown just 74 pitches in a six-inning, one-hit outing against the Athletics on Friday.

But there was a clear argument against sending Irvin out for the seventh Wednesday: He struggled last season against left-handed batters. In the sixth, lefties Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman hit balls with exit velocities of 106.7 and 99.6 mph — for a single and a double play — before Smith struck out. Set to lead off the seventh for the Dodgers: Max Muncy, who feasts against righties.

“We had a conversation after the sixth inning. I really felt like he let it air out there that last inning,” Martinez said. “… We decided to go with the bullpen, but I can’t say enough about what he’s done so far.”

Robert Garcia, Hunter Harvey and Kyle Finnegan handled the final three innings without incident, and the Nationals returned home with a 5-4 record on their California road trip.

“[Irvin] pitched his butt off today,” Harvey said. “… Any time a starter can give you six scoreless, it’s always a good day.”

The Nationals, who managed just one first-inning run in their first 17 games, drove in two in the first against the Dodgers’ Landon Knack, a righty making his major league debut. CJ Abrams greeted him with a home run on the game’s second pitch, and Joey Meneses tacked on another run with a sacrifice fly.

The Dodgers had opportunities to level the score. They had two runners on in the first, but Irvin struck out Muncy with a fastball. In the second, he allowed a double to James Outman, who was at third base with two outs. He struck out Gavin Lux with another fastball. He stranded another runner on third in the fourth inning.

The Nationals have several young starters who they hope will take the next step this season. Josiah Gray ( strained right flexor muscle ) and Cade Cavalli (Tommy John surgery) are recuperating; the Nationals hope they’ll be back soon. So far, Gore has looked the part .

But so has Irvin. Last season, he made the most of his opportunity while filling in for the injured Chad Kuhl. Irvin thrived early, then struggled. The Nationals could have sent him back down, but they stuck with him — and he was their best pitcher in the season’s second half. This year, he seems to be building confidence with each start.

“He’s been unbelievable — he really has,” Martinez said. “He’s been outstanding, actually. He just keeps getting better and better. The confidence keeps growing.”

Note: Lefty Mitchell Parker, who beat the Dodgers in his MLB debut Monday , is slated to start Sunday against visiting Houston. Gore and Trevor Williams are set to start the first two games of the series. Martinez said Parker will be on a start-by-start basis as the Nationals await word on Gray’s condition.

AMD has received reports of some games triggering anti-cheat bans on gamers when AMD Anti-Lag+ technology is enabled on Radeon graphics. To address this, we have released the AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 23.10.2 driver that disables Anti-Lag+ technology in all supported games, and we recommend gamers use the new driver. AMD is actively working with game developers on a solution to re-enable Anti-Lag+ and support them in reinstating gamers who were impacted by the anti-cheat bans. We will provide more information when available.

Surprising A's face Guardians to begin 10-game trip

The Oakland Athletics appear committed not to let the franchise's uncertain future affect their on-field performance.

The surprising A's begin a three-game series and 10-game road trip when they face the Cleveland Guardians on Friday. Cleveland improved to 13-6 with a 5-4 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Thursday.

Oakland begins the series on a hot streak after winning seven of its past 11 games, including a 6-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday.

The A's intend to play in Sacramento for the next three years while waiting for their new stadium to be built in Las Vegas, but the team's players are focused only on the present.

Esteury Ruiz homered for the second time in three games and Tyler Nevin had a career-high three hits and an RBI on Wednesday to help the A's avoid a three-game sweep.

"To show the character that we did today, after losing two to these guys, to come out, and being down 3-2 and end up coming back and winning the game, (it) says a lot about the club and the confidence that they have right now," Oakland manager Mark Kotsay said.

Ruiz has provided a spark from the leadoff spot since rejoining the team from Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday. He had two RBIs, scored two runs and stole a base in Wednesday's victory.

"We're playing great baseball right now," Oakland pitcher Paul Blackburn said. "The energy is at an all-time high right now for us. It's not just coming from guys that are in the game. It's coming from everyone. It's definitely a group effort right now, and it shows."

The Athletics will send rookie right-hander Joe Boyle (1-2, 5.68 ERA) to the mound in the series opener. He allowed one run on five hits and one walk over five innings in a 3-1 loss to the Washington Nationals last Saturday.

Boyle, 24, went 2-0 with a 1.69 ERA in three starts with the A's last season. He is making his first appearance against the Guardians.

Cleveland will counter with right-hander Triston McKenzie (1-2, 6.23), who is looking to bounce back after giving up six runs (five earned) on four hits and six walks over four innings in an 8-2 loss to the New York Yankees last Saturday.

The 26-year-old McKenzie has struck out five batters and issued 12 walks in his first three outings covering 13 innings. He is 1-0 with a 1.96 ERA in three career starts versus Oakland.

Cleveland begins the weekend on a high note after winning three of four against the Red Sox in Fenway Park.

"You want to win every series. Every team talks about it," Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said. "It's not this new idea, but any time you can go on the road and win a series, especially from a very good team across the way, you feel good about it heading home."

Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez had two hits from the leadoff spot on Thursday and is hitting .293 with 11 RBIs.

"He's the Swiss Army knife of the lineup. He hits all over the place," Vogt said. "His at-bats since the start of the year have been phenomenal ... clutch hit after clutch hit."

Softball Edged by Baylor, 2-1, in Series-Opener

Waco, Texas – The UCF softball team enjoyed another strong start by Sarah Willis in the circle, but offensive struggles throughout the contest plagued the squad in its series-opening 2-1 loss to the Baylor Bears at Getterman Stadium Friday evening.

Willis overcame an uneven start that saw Baylor strike for a first-inning run on the strength of a leadoff hit-by-pitch and, later, a wild pitch that allowed the Bears to score. On the heels of the Bears’ hasty score, the Big 12 Conference’s reigning Pitcher of the Week retired the next eight consecutive Baylor hitters she faced, spinning perfect second and third innings.

Riding the newfound momentum created by her starting pitcher, Chloe Evans produced the equalizer in the top of the fourth inning. Despite falling behind in the count 0-2, the right fielder slugged her fifth home run of the season out to straightaway center field to tie the affairs at one run apiece.

The long ball, Evans’ second in her last three games after hitting a timely go-ahead solo home run the top of the fifth inning in the Knights’ series finale at Houston April 14, also pushed her team-leading RBI total to 31 through her 42 starts.

No longer pitching from behind, Willis kept rolling through the fourth and fifth innings, notching her second punchout in a scoreless fourth before fanning her third in setting down three of four batters faced in the fifth.

The Bears broke through once again in the bottom of the sixth inning, when first baseman Shaylon Govan swatted what would prove to be the game-winning home run to left-center field.

In spite of the losing decision, Willis recorded her seventh start of at least six innings pitched this spring, including her fourth with three or fewer hits allowed in at least six innings of work.

The Knights look to even the series against Baylor in game two of the three game set Saturday, moved up to 12 p.m. ET in anticipation of inclement weather. The game will be streamed live on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
