Travel Consultant resume summary examples

To make your resume pass the seven seconds recruiters spend eyeing a resume , write an impactful resume opener.

The resume summary consists of a two to three-sentence paragraph introducing yourself to potential employers by featuring your top skills and professional abilities.

Think of it like a business pitch. Your knowledge and experiences are the product you have to sell to the investor, in this case, the employer.

If you have plenty of work experience in your desired field, choose the professional summary approach.

If this is your first time applying for a Travel Consultant position, use the objective statement , which allows you to share your skills as they relate to your career goals.

You can compare these two approaches in the examples below to determine which is better for your situation.

Good example:

“Experienced Travel Consultant with over 10 years of experience providing exceptional customer service and expert travel advice. Skilled in utilizing the latest technology to streamline processes and increase efficiency. Achieved success in increasing customer satisfaction ratings by 15% and reducing customer complaints by 25%.”

Why this example passes:

  • Feature candidate’s success statistic to grab attention. Numbers add detail about how big the results you deliver are, e.g., test scores, passing rate and more.
  • Shows career length, 11 years.
  • Mentions employer-desired skills: student motivation and interactive lessons.

Bad example:

“ I am a Travel Consultant with a passion for helping people plan their trips. I have great communication skills and a friendly attitude. I am confident I can provide excellent customer service.”

Why this example fails:

  • Doesn’t include any numbers that quantify travel consultant’s performance
  • Uses vague descriptions and skills.
  • Doesn’t include years of teaching experience.

Travel Consultant CV 1

This a good example of a Travel Consultant CV which contains all of the information that an employer would need to know, and presents it in a well- structured, easy-to-read manner.

Take some time to look at this CV and refer to it throughout the writing of your own CV for best results.

Travel Consultant CV structure and format

The format and structure of your CV is important because it will determine how easy it is for recruiters and employers to read your CV.

If they can find the information they need quickly, they’ll be happy; but if they struggle, your application could be overlooked.

A simple and logical structure will always create a better reading experience than a complex structure, and with a few simple formatting tricks, you’ll be good to go.

CV structure

Formatting Tips

  • Length: While there’s no ‘official’ CV length rule, the majority of recruiters agree that less is more. Aim for two pages of A4 or less. This is just enough room to showcase your suitability to the role, without overwhelming recruiters with irrelevant or excessive content.
  • Readability : To help busy recruiters scan through your CV, make sure your section headings stand out – bold or coloured text works well. Additionally, try to use bullet points wherever you can, as they’re far easier to skim through than huge paragraphs. Lastly, don’t be afraid of white space on your CV – a little breathing space is great for readability.
  • Design: It’s generally best to stick to a simple CV design, as funky or elaborate designs rarely add any value to your application. A clear, modern font and a subtle colour scheme work perfectly and allow your skills, experience and achievements to speak for themselves.
  • Avoid photos: Ditch logos, images or profile photos. Not only do they take up valuable space, but they may even distract recruiters from your important written content.

CV builder

Structuring your CV

As you write your CV , work to the simple but effective structure below:

  • Name and contact details – Pop them at the top of your CV, so it’s easy for recruiters to contact you.
  • CV profile – Write a snappy overview of what makes you a good fit for the role; discussing your key experience, skills and accomplishments.
  • Core skills section – Add a short but snappy list of your relevant skills and knowledge.
  • Work experience – A list of your relevant work experience, starting with your current role.
  • Education – A summary of your relevant qualifications and professional/vocational training.
  • Hobbies and interests – An optional sections, which you could use to write a short description of any relevant hobbies or interests.

Now I’ll guide you through exactly what you should include in each CV section.

CV Contact Details

Contact details

Make it easy for recruiters to get in touch, by heading your CV with your contact details.

There’s no need for excessive details – just list the basics:

  • Mobile number
  • Email address – Use a professional address with no nicknames.
  • Location – Just write your general location, such as ‘London’ or ‘Cardiff’ – there’s no need to put your full address.
  • LinkedIn profile or portfolio URL

Travel Consultant CV Profile

Recruiters and hiring managers are busy, so it’s essential to catch their attention from the get-go.

A strong introductory profile (or personal statement , for junior candidates) at the top of the CV is the first thing they’ll read, so it’s a great chance to make an impression.

It should be a short but punchy summary of your key skills, relevant experience and accomplishments.

Ultimately, it should explain why you’re a great fit for the role you’re applying for and inspire recruiters to read the rest of your CV.

CV profile

Tips for creating an impactful CV profile:

  • Keep it brief: Recruiters are busy, so to ensure your profile is actually read, it’s best to keep it short and snappy. 3-5 punchy lines makes for the perfect profile.
  • Tailor it: No matter how much time you put into your CV profile, it won’t impress if it’s irrelevant to the role you’re applying for. Before you start writing, make a list of the skills, knowledge and experience your target employer is looking for. Then, make sure to mention them in your CV profile and throughout the rest of your application.
  • Don’t add an objective: Career goals and objectives are best suited to your cover letter , so don’t waste space with them in your CV profile.
  • Avoid cliches: Focus on fact, not fluff. Phrases like “Committed and enthusiastic thought-leader” and “Dynamic problem solver” might sound fancy, but they’ll do nothing for your application. Not only do they sound cheesy, but they have no substance – stick to real skills and facts

What to include in your Travel Consultant CV profile?

  • Summary of experience: Start with a brief summary of your relevant experience so far. How many years experience do you have? What type of companies have you worked for? What industries/sectors have you worked in? What are your specialisms?
  • Relevant skills: Highlight your skills which are most relevant to Travel Consultant jobs, to ensure that recruiters see your most in-demand skills as soon as they open your CV.
  • Essential qualifications: Be sure to outline your relevant Travel Consultant qualifications, so that anyone reading the CV can instantly see you are qualified for the jobs you are applying to.

Quick tip: Even the best of writers can overlook typos and spelling mistakes. Use our quick-and-easy CV Builder to add pre-written content that has been created by recruitment experts, and proofread by our team.

Core skills section

In addition to your CV profile, your core skills section provides an easily digestible snapshot of your skills – perfect for grabbing the attention of busy hiring managers.

As Travel Consultant jobs might receive a huge pile of applications, this is a great way to stand out and show off your suitability for the role.

It should be made up of 2-3 columns of bullet points and be made up of skills that are highly relevant to the jobs you are targeting.

CV core skills

Work experience/Career history

By now, you’ll have hooked the reader’s attention and need to show them how you apply your skills and knowledge in the workplace, to benefit your employers.

So, starting with your most recent role and working backwards to your older roles, create a thorough summary of your career history to date.

If you’ve held several roles and are struggling for space, cut down the descriptions for your oldest jobs.

Work experience

Structuring your roles

Your work experience section will be long, so it’s important to structure it in a way which helps recruiters to quickly and easily find the information they need.

Use the 3-step structure, shown in the below example, below to achieve this.

Role descriptions

Firstly, give the reader some context by creating a punchy summary of the job as a whole.

You should mention what the purpose or goal of your role was, what team you were part of and who you reported to.

Key responsibilities

Next up, you should write a short list of your day-to-day duties within the job.

Recruiters are most interested in your sector-specific skills and knowledge, so highlight these wherever possible.

Key achievements

To finish off each role and prove the impact you made, list 1-3 stand out achievements , results or accomplishments.

This could be anything which had a positive outcome for the company you worked for, or perhaps a client/customer. Where applicable, quantify your examples with facts and figures.

Next up, you should list your education and qualifications.

This can include your formal qualifications (a degree, A-Levels and GCSEs), as well as sector-specific Travel Consultant qualifications and/or training.

While school leavers and recent grads should include a lot of detail here to make up for the lack of work experience, experienced candidates may benefit from a shorter education section, as your work experience section will be more important to recruiters.

Interests and hobbies

This section is entirely optional, so you’ll have to use your own judgement to figure out if it’s worth including.

If your hobbies and interests could make you appear more suitable for your dream job, then they are definitely worth adding.

Interests which are related to the industry, or hobbies like sports teams or volunteering, which display valuable transferable skills might be worth including.

Essential skills for your Travel Consultant CV

Tailoring your CV to the roles you are applying for is key to success, so make sure to read through the job descriptions and tailor your skills accordingly.

However, commonly desired  Travel Consultant  skills include:

Travel knowledge: The travel industry is always changing, and therefore, it’s important to be as up to date as possible on the latest trends, top places to go and any areas that should be avoided

Sales: You might not be selling physical products, but as a travel consultant, you need strong sales skills to sell entire holiday packages to customers

IT skills: Nowadays, most of the holiday booking process is done through the computer; therefore, you need to have at least basic IT skills, and the ability to learn to use industry-specific software

Customer service: As a travel consultant, you’re in a customer-facing role and you’re helping people with their holidays, which is usually an enjoyable experience, so great customer service is a must

Organisation: Travel consultants deal with a huge amount of information and business-related materials each day, which is why strong organisation is so important for keeping on top of these

Writing your Travel Consultant CV

A strong, compelling CV is essential to get noticed and land interviews with the best employers.

To ensure your CV stands out from the competition, make sure to tailor it to your target role and pack it with sector-specific skills and results.

Remember to triple-check for spelling and grammar errors before hitting send.

Good luck with the job search!

Unexplained year gaps and missing job experiences are a no-no, gaps in your resume can prevent recruiters from hiring you if you don't explain them..

  • It's okay to have gaps in your work experience but always offer a valid explanation instead of just hiding it.
  • Use the gap to talk about positive attributes or additional skills you've learned.
  • Be honest and straightforward about the gap and explain it using a professional summary.

Your travel agent work experience bullet points

While the job description is a priceless source of insight when it comes to what the company’s looking for, recruiters want to see your ability to solve problems and overcome obstacles.

In other words, don’t just repeat the job requirements as experience points. Frame your experiences as “Here’s how I did this!” and not “Yeah, I can do that.” Look at the organization’s website if you need additional inspiration for current obstacles that are similar to issues you’ve solved before, and set your success off with active verbs and language.

And don’t forget to substantiate your awesome work experience with metrics! Quantifiable data can transform the credibility of your travel agent resume, especially since you work with so much of it each time you budget for a trip or organize notes for an itinerary.

  • ROI improvements show your ability to optimize travel budgets
  • Savings in dollars highlight your budgets skills, too, alongside your ability to boost profits
  • Increased return percentages demonstrate how you keep clients coming back next trip!
  • Positive customer feedback ratings show off your soft skills and professionalism

See what we mean?

  • Reduced customer complaints by 17% through proactive customer engagement and issue resolution
  • Collaborated with the sales team to generate leads that contributed to $252.1K revenue growth
  • Managed a travel budget of $2.4 million, ensuring compliance with financial guidelines and achieving a 98% budget utilization rate
  • Utilized Deem’s expense management system to track and reconcile travel expenses, resulting in a 36-hour reduction in reimbursement processing time
  • Enhanced booking accuracy by meticulously verifying and cross-referencing flight information using FlightAware

3 Tips for Writing a Travel Agent Resume if You Have Limited Experience

  • If you’re just starting out as a travel agent, you might need an itinerary of your own. Consider using an objective statement on your resume! This concise paragraph should outline why you want the job and provide some excellent scheduling and interpersonal skills that qualify you for it.
  • Of course, you’ll want to mention a degree like Tourism and Hospitality Management, but you can also list relevant accomplishments from school. If you have an excellent GPA, took additional relevant courses, or earned any academic achievements, these can help make up for limited experience.
  • The same idea from our previous tip also applies to internships! Let recruiters know if you completed any internships, similar activities, or even volunteer initiatives related to travel or hospitality. Not every qualification has to be a paid job to still count in your favor!

3 Tips for Writing a Travel Agent Resume if You Already Have Some Experience

  • You don’t want an overcrowded resume any more than you’d want to overbook someone’s travel calendar! You want to have a little breathing room, so limit your work experience section to just three or four of your most relevant jobs.
  • If you’ve had a few years of experience as a travel agent, consultant, or similar role, you don’t need to depend as much on academic experiences for credibility. Focus more on your professional achievements in the workforce and highlight examples of how you’ve overcome relevant obstacles!
  • Now’s a good time to weigh the pros and cons of a resume summary . If you’ve had plenty of experience in one role (or several similar ones), you might be able to eliminate some redundancy and tie it all together with a summary. But if you have many diverse experiences demonstrating your prowess, you might not need one.

We know it can be tough, but keep to a one-page resume ! You probably have loads of stories to share about how you knocked that one travel budget out of the water, but recruiters crave brevity. If you’re having trouble staying within the one-page limit, set some experiences aside for a cover letter.

Your metrics should fortify the final impact of your skills. What results did you create with your ability to book flights quickly and find the perfect little Airbnb just in time? Look for quantifiable data that strengthens your final point and avoid free-floating numbers like headcounts or booking quantities.

Yes, please! Whether you have just one or several, include additional credentials like a Certified Travel Counselor (CTC) or a Certified Cruise Counselor (CCC). Not only do they emphasize your industry niche, but they demonstrate your ambition as well.

Tips for writing your resume

To land the perfect job, you need the perfect resume. In today’s crowded job market, it is more important than ever to stand out among the competition. When you write your resume, it is vital that you get everything right, from the organization of the template to the details of your work experience. To make sure your resume is flawless, here are some tips for writing the best resume possible.

Let them know where to contact you

Your resume should begin with your contact information. It is very important that potential employers, having read your resume, know how to contact you! At the top of your resume, include your name, phone number, email address, and city.

Introduce yourself

A personal summary, though optional, is a great way to introduce yourself to an employer with your resume. This section is comprised of one or two paragraphs where you can feature your notable accomplishments and highlight your most valuable skills. Your summary should give employers a brief outline of your experience and capabilities and intrigue them to keep reading.

What do you do best?

Shorter than a work history section, in a skills section you can efficiently list your core competencies in a way that is direct and easy to read. Showcase the skills and abilities that you bring to the job, focussing on those which distinguish you from the competition. The more useful and unique your skills are, the more you will stand out to an employer.

Showcase your achievements

Display your work experience in reverse-chronological order, beginning with your most recent position at the top of the section. Describe for each job your title, responsibilities, and accomplishments, with a focus on performance and results rather than duties. Use action words like ‘developed, ‘produced’, and ‘delivered’ when describing your work history to create compelling and impactful descriptions of your experience. Highlighting quantifiable information, like performance metrics and revenue, is a great way to demonstrate your abilities.

What did you learn, and where did you learn it?

Your education section should include the name of any post-secondary schools you attended, the degrees you earned, and any academic distinctions you achieved that you deem worth featuring. If they are particularly relevant, you can also include major areas of study and important projects that you participated in. Like the work experience section, your education should be displayed in reverse-chronological order.

Common Mistakes to Avoid When Writing a Travel Consultant Resume

In this competitive job market, employers receive an average of 180 applications for each open position. To process these resumes, companies often rely on automated applicant tracking systems, which can sift through resumes and eliminate the least qualified applicants. If your resume is among the few that make it past these bots, it must still impress the recruiter or hiring manager. With so many applications coming in, recruiters typically give each resume only 5 seconds of their attention before deciding whether to discard it. Considering this, it's best to avoid including any distracting information on your application that could cause it to be thrown away. To help make sure your resume stands out, review the list below of what you should not include on your job application.

  • Not including a cover letter. A cover letter is a great way to explain why you are the best candidate for the job and why you want the position.
  • Using too much jargon. Hiring managers do not want to read a resume full of technical terms that they do not understand.
  • Omitting important details. Make sure to include your contact information, educational background, job history, and any relevant skills and experiences.
  • Using a generic template. Take the time to customize your resume to the job you are applying for. This will show the employer that you are serious about the position.
  • Spelling and grammar errors. Always double-check your resume for typos, spelling mistakes, and grammar errors.
  • Focusing too much on duties. Make sure to include accomplishments and successes to show the employer that you are a great candidate.
  • Including personal information. Avoid including any personal information such as age, marital status, or religious beliefs.

Key takeaways for a Travel Consultant resume

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills

How to ensure your profile stands out with your travel consultant CV format

  • list your experience in the reverse chronological order - starting with your latest roles;
  • include a header with your professional contact information and - optionally - your photograph;
  • organise vital and relevant CV sections - e.g. your experience, skills, summary/ objective, education - closer to the top;
  • use no more than two pages to illustrate your professional expertise;
  • format your information using plenty of white space and standard (2.54 cm) margins , with colours to accent key information.

Once you've completed your information, export your travel consultant CV in PDF, as this format is more likely to stay intact when read by the Applicant Tracker System or the ATS . A few words of advice about the ATS - or the software used to assess your profile:

  • Generic fonts, e.g. Arial and Times New Roman, are ATS-compliant, yet many candidates stick with these safe choices. Ensure your CV stands out by using a more modern, and simple, fonts like Lato, Exo 2, Volkhov;
  • All serif and sans-serif fonts are ATS-friendly. Avoid the likes of fancy decorative or script typography, as this may render your information to be illegible;
  • Both single- and double-column formatted CVs could be assessed by the ATS ;
  • Integrating simple infographics, icons, and charts across your CV won't hurt your chances during the ATS assessment.

Be mindful of white space; too much can make the CV look sparse, too little can make it look cluttered. Strive for a balance that makes the document easy on the eyes.

Mix and match hard and soft skills across your travel consultant CV

Your skill set play an equally valid role as your experience to your application. That is because recruiters are looking for both:

  • hard skills or your aptitude in applying particular technologies
  • soft skills or your ability to work in a team using your personal skills , e.g. leadership, time management, etc.

Are you wondering how you should include both hard and soft skills across your travel consultant CV? Use the:

  • skills section to list between ten and twelve technologies that are part of the job requirement (and that you're capable to use);
  • strengths and achievements section to detail how you've used particular hard and soft skills that led to great results for you at work;
  • summary or objective to spotlight up to three skills that are crucial for the role and how they've helped you optimise your work processes.

One final note - when writing about the skills you have, make sure to match them exactly as they are written in the job ad. Take this precautionary measure to ensure your CV passes the Applicant Tracker System (ATS) assessment.

CV education and certificates: your academic background as proof of your skill set

A common misconception about your travel consultant CV education is that you only need it, if you have less professional experience. That is completely false. The CV education section serves to back up your technical (and sometimes personal) capabilities, fill in gaps in your work history, and show you have the initial industry background and know-how. When creating your education section:

  • List your degrees in the reverse chronological order, starting with the most recent (and relevant) ones first;
  • Include your degree and university names, start and graduation dates. It's optional to also denote you received a "First-Class Honours" for diplomas that are more relevant to the role;
  • Curate your relevant university coursework, projects, or thesis work if you happen to have less professional expertise and need to integrate more job keywords and skills.

Your professional qualifications don't need to stop at your academic background. It's advisable to also select up to three of your most noteworthy (and relevant) industry certificates and feature them in a dedicated section . Once more, include the certificate name, the institution that issued it out, and the date you obtained it on. You could feature both hard skills and soft skills certificates, as in the examples below:

If there's a noticeable gap in your skillset for the role you're applying for, mention any steps you're taking to acquire these skills, such as online courses or self-study.

Key takeaways

Impressing recruiters with your experience, skill set, and values starts with your professional travel consultant CV. Write concisely and always aim to answer job requirements with what you've achieved; furthermore:

  • Select a simple design that complements your experience and ensures your profile is presentable;
  • Include an opening statement that either spotlights your key achievements (summary) or showcases your career ambitions (objective);
  • Curate your experience bullets, so that each one commences with a strong, action verb and is followed up by your skill and accomplishment;
  • List your hard and soft skills all across different sections of your CV to ensure your application meets the requirements;
  • Dedicate space to your relevant higher education diplomas and your certificates to show recruiters you have the necessary industry background.

Travel consultant CV template

How can you create a CV that puts you ahead of the competition? With an extensive library of resources, how-to guides and premade CV templates , you’ll find the process to be a breeze! Create a comprehensive CV that shows the best of you as a candidate by selecting a template that reflects your experience level.

Which format is right for a travel consultant CV?

The first step in your journey to writing the perfect travel consultant CV is to select the right format. CV formats are a surefire way to make sure you won’t forget any of the important content of your CV. You can think of your CV format as the skeleton of your CV – the foundation on which everything else will rest.

There are many different styles for you to choose from – but for a travel consultant, two stand out above all others. The first is the reverse-chronological CV. This is a CV format that uses your previous work experience to paint a picture of you as a candidate. It starts with your current or most recent role, then works backwards chronologically.

The second option you have for a travel consultant CV format is to use a skills-based CV. This is a format that focuses on transferable skills to show how you are the right candidate for the position. This can be a great option if you are changing careers or newly graduated, though experience is usually valued highest so new starters can hit the ground running.

Either way, here are some important tips to keep in mind when formatting your CV:

  • Adapt your CV so it fits the job you are applying for.
  • Send your CV as a Word or PDF document.
  • Write your CV to be one or two pages long.
  • Select a professional font like Calibri, Times New Roman, or Arial.
  • Make sure to break up long bodies of text with headings, section breaks, or bullet point lists.

How to write a CV for a travel consultant

Now that we have chosen the best format for your CV, let’s cover how to write a CV in detail. The content of your CV is all about finding the most impressive experience you have and expressing it in an engaging way. We’ll also need to cover your key skills, qualifications, and more – so here’s a little of what is coming up in later sections of our guide:

How to add contact details to your travel consultant CV

Travel consultant cv personal statement, travel consultant cv work experience, travel consultant cv skills, travel consultant cv education.

One of the most overlooked sections of a CV is the contact details. These should be somewhere near the top of your document and should convey to the reader some of your most important information.

Why is this section so vital? Imagine you are a hiring manager, searching through CVs for the best candidate. You come across a CV that has all of the right skills and experience and you want to invite them for an interview. But when you search for their phone number or email address – you can’t find it! This scenario is more common than you might think, and is the reason why you’ll want to spend some time adding a clear set of details to your CV.

Thankfully, adding a strong set of contact details isn’t difficult. You should aim to place them somewhere near the top of your document, preferably in a bolder, or slightly different font. Here is what you will need to include every time:

  • Your name – you can miss out your middle name.
  • Location – so the employer knows where you’re based.
  • Your phone number – choose a mobile if you can, as this is easier to reach.
  • Email address – ensure to use a professional email address.

As a travel consultant, you’re no stranger to persuasion. By writing the perfect travel consultant personal statement, you can catch your recruiter’s eye and convince them you’re the best candidate for the role.

Your personal statement (or personal summary) sits at the top of your CV. In 2-3 lines, you should outline your current employment, career goals, and key professional attributes – whether it’s a second language or a relevant tourism qualification.

If you present your most compelling information at the start, you can create a great first impression and encourage your recruiter to find out more about you.

How can you do this in an effective, engaging way? Just follow a simple formula. Your first sentence should introduce you to the reader with a fast, punchy overview of you as a candidate. State your experience level and career objective. The idea here is to hook the reader – so keep it short and snappy!

The second line of your statement should then use a real-world fact or figure to show what you have achieved. Let’s say you’ve previously improved company customer service by 14% over the course of a year – this would be the time to mention it! The number you include adds a level of authority to your claim which will help to get you noticed.

The third and fourth lines of your personal statement should be reserved for outlining any special skills you may have. Maybe you are skilled in travel regulations or compliance, or perhaps you have excellent customer care skills. It’s important to let the employer know ahead of time what makes you unique.

Here are some extra tips for your personal statement:

  • Don’t go over 100 words in total.
  • Make sure the tone is friendly but formal.
  • Tailor your statement to the job ad.
  • Write in the third person for a more formal tone.
  • Leave out any future career goals as these can be added to your cover letter.

Example of personal statement for a travel consultant CV

Independent and well-established travel agent offering more than 10 years in the industry. Reliable individual with a base of wealthy, loyal clientele. Looking for a position within a travel agency that strives for excellence in delivering best client experiences.

Ambitious travel consultant with over 10 years of experience in the industry searching for a senior role. Helped to manage a base of over 100 clients across two years of travel consultancy. Excels in customer care, travel regulations, and teamwork.

Next up is your work history . This is where you can show the reader that you have the hands-on experience to excel in the role of travel consultant. There’s a good chance that your employer will skim straight to this section to see if you have the required experience for the role you are applying for – so it’s important to take your time with this section.

Crafting an impactful work experience section involves tailoring your application to align with the requirements of the job advertisement. Start by highlighting your current or most recent role, then move backward, outlining up to six key responsibilities for each position. Ensure your presentation encompasses the following key information:

  • Job Title – clearly state your role.
  • Employment dates – mention the start and end dates of your tenure.
  • Company details – specify the name and location of the company.
  • Key tasks – explain the primary responsibilities associated with the role.
  • Achievements – highlight any notable accomplishments related to the job.

To enhance the effectiveness of your work experience section, consider incorporating real-world statistics and figures to strengthen your CV. Be mindful not to add the same information more than once, given the limited space we have to work with.

Just as in your personal statement, infuse your writing with tangible data and captivating language. Use action verbs to replace mundane phrases like “responsible for”, to add some colour into your descriptions. Additionally, employ positive adjectives to creatively portray your most impressive attributes – terms like “methodical” or “punctual” can add depth to your self-description.

Maintain the reader’s interest by avoiding repetition and making sure your language remains engaging all the way through this section. By following these guidelines, you’ll present a work experience section that not only meets the job requirements but also stands out with its uniqueness and clarity.

  • Arranged travel accommodation for groups, couples, executives and special needs clients.
  • Asked open-ended questions to better ascertain client needs and determine the best travel offerings.
  • Discussed security issues and protocols with individuals travelling to highly insecure areas in the Middle East and Africa.

Another place employers often skip to is the CV skills section. This is because there are many key skills a travel consultant needs to have to be successful, and an employer may want to know if you have these listed from the starting bell. To make sure you stay ahead of the competition, you’ll want to add a list of up to 12 skills in total – split between hard and soft skills .

What is the difference between these? In short, Hard skills are things you learn in school or at work-specific, practical knowledge that’s tough to pick up elsewhere or teach yourself. It can involve using specialised tools or having expert-level understanding.

Soft skills, on the other hand, are more about your positive traits. Employers want you to have a mix of both to consider you for a job. You need the hands-on skills for the job, but being a well-rounded person who learns quickly and works well with others is just as crucial.

The ideal travel consultant skills range from excellent communication to a keen eye for a bargain! Make sure you have the full skill set by exploring our checklist below.

Key skills for your travel consultant CV

  • Communication
  • Customer service
  • Attention to detail
  • Sales and marketing knowledge
  • Administration

Special skills that will set you apart

  • Bilingual or multilingual
  • Multitasking
  • Active listening
  • Knowledge of travel regulations

Your education section is a crucial part of your CV. Travel consultants are no exception. Most roles in this field expect some background in travel consultancy, or customer service. This section lets the reader know you have the necessary brains along with practical experience for the job.

What should you put in this section? Start with your highest qualification and work backward, similar to your work experience section. Include relevant qualifications like an undergraduate degree in a relevant field and any professional training courses you’ve completed.

When listing your travel consultancy education, make sure to include:

  • Name of the educational institution.
  • Start and end dates of your course.
  • Official title of your field of study.
  • Qualification level achieved.

How to choose the best resume format for a professional resume

Resume formats and templates go hand-in-hand. Your  resume format  will determine your resume’s organization and help you choose the best one. For example, if you’re a first-time job seeker, you’ll want to create a resume that emphasizes your skills and training rather than your work experience (or lack thereof).

Choose your resume format based on these guidelines:

  • Functional format : This format emphasizes skills by breaking them into subcategories. It’s perfect for jobs that rely on skills more than experience or if you lack experience. Good resume templates for the functional format should include different skills sections, such as the “Summary of Qualifications” and the “Professional Skills.”
  • Combination format : If you have a few years of experience or are changing careers but can point to essential skills, use this resume format, which balances skills with work experience. A resume template download for the combination format should feature the “Summary of Qualifications” and a skills list.
  • Chronological format : If you can show substantial progression in your career field, or are aiming for a senior position, use this format, which gives you plenty of space to describe your work history. Chronological resume templates have the work history section directly below the resume summary.

Download some of our resume format templates on this page and create a professional resume easily.

How to write a resume using a professional resume template

Think of a resume as a summary of your career and professional qualifications. In the space of one to two pages, your business resume template should communicate your strengths as an employee and what makes you the best fit for the job.

When filling in a blank resume template, focus on  customizing it for the specific job : highlighting your skills and work experiences that match the job’s needs. To write an ATS-friendly resume , include keywords that show employers and applicant tracking systems that your background aligns with their needs. Use strong  action verbs , short phrases and bullet points, and keep your resume concise. Our free downloadable resume templates are all created with these crucial points in mind, so use them as a guide.

For a complete guide on using a resume template to write your resume from top to bottom, visit our page on  How to Write a Resume .

How to write a resume summary

The summary in a professional resume template is your first chance to make a good impression with your resume. Think of it as an “ elevator pitch ” that’s a few sentences long and answers these questions:

  • What makes you a good employee? Think in terms of notable skills or achievements.
  • What makes you suitable for the job? Emphasize abilities that fit the job.

For more tips on how to write an effective resume summary, visit our How to Write a Resume Summary page after downloading resume templates for your job application.

How to write your work history

Avoid listing everyday duties in the work history section of your resume template. Instead, emphasize special projects or achievements that set you apart and quantify your accomplishments using numbers (e.g., “Managed schedules for 50 employees” or “Headed media campaign that resulted in 23% increase in user subscriptions”).

Our How to Write Your Work History Section page provides more pointers to summarize your work experience in your job resume template effectively.

Skills On Resume

How to list skills on a resume template

Your resume format will determine how you put your skills section together. If you’re displaying more than a handful of skills, organize your skills section by skill categories (e.g., administrative skills, software skills). Be sure to include:

  • Hard skills: abilities you can learn through study and training, such as knowledge of specific software programs or the ability to perform medical procedures.
  • Soft skills : intangible traits that tell employers how you can interact with others and approach work, such as attention to detail, communication, or teamwork.

Visit our How to Write Your Skills page for recommendations on using a work resume template to highlight your skills.

Good resume templates for different file formats

There are four acceptable file formats for professional resumes. Sometimes a job description will state which one to use, but if you’re unsure, you’ll find free resume templates to download for all of them on the pages listed below.

PDF resume templates

Employers often prefer resumes in PDF format because they’re readable on any browser and can be submitted “as is” for many job applications. You can download our free resume format templates as PDFs. The best resume template is one that is easy to read and tailored to your industry or skill level. Here are a few key features of standout resume templates:

  • Professional design: A great resume template has a polished and professional design that catches the attention of employers or recruiters.
  • Clean and uncluttered layout: A clean and uncluttered layout with well-organized sections helps to focus attention on your key qualifications and achievements.
  • Customizable sections: Look for a template that allows you to easily customize and rearrange sections to highlight your most relevant skills, experience and achievements.
  • ATS-friendly: Choose a template that is compatible with Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) to ensure that your resume can be parsed and read by these systems.

Remember to highlight your unique qualifications and match the specific job requirements. Browse our selection of free and premium resume templates to find one that catches your eye.

Some might argue that using a resume layout template shows a lack of creativity, but we disagree. As long as the template is professionally designed with a solid resume layout that passes muster with hiring managers and ATS scans, there’s no downside to using them. If anything, having an employer-ready and ATS-friendly resume template saves you from creating one of your own and worrying about whether your resume will be easy to read.

Think of a blank resume template as the foundation on which you can build your resume. Once you choose the best resume template for your needs, you can update the content with your job qualifications to fit your target job. Use your resume template download with our Resume Builder for helpful job-specific suggestions to fill out your resume. See our guide, what does a resume look like , for additional advice from career experts.

Many employers use ATS to screen resumes before they reach human eyes. A professional resume with the right keywords to match the job requirements will have a better chance of passing applicant tracking systems. We have templates for  resumes that are designed to be readable by ATS. All you need to do is adjust the content for the right keywords .

All of our 40+ resume templates on this page, as well as our free resume templates, are designed to pass the most popular ATS used by employers today.

Yes! My Perfect Resume offers free and premium templates to download for Microsoft Word. Choose from professional, creative, modern or basic resume template styles.

Employers typically only spend a few seconds scanning an individual resume, so we recommend keeping your resume to one page if you can include all of your most crucial job qualifications. However, a two-page resume is acceptable if you’re applying for a job that favors lots of experience. Try one of our great resume examples free of charge to see if a one-page resume or two-page resume works better for you.

Every professional resume must include the following sections:

  • A header with the job applicant’s contact information.
  • A professional summary or an objective statement .
  • A work history section focused on accomplishments.
  • At least one skills section highlighting a mix of relevant hard and soft skills.
  • The job seeker’s education history.

A professional resume template will contain all of the resume sections you need and allow you to customize your resume to include optional qualifications such as awards.

Many job applications will ask you to submit a cover letter along with your resume. Remember that your cover letter should complement your resume, not simply repeat it. Hit these points in your cover letter:

  • Explain why you’re interested in the job and think you’re a good fit.
  • Give more details about an achievement or skill you have that’s relevant to the job.
  • Communicate your enthusiasm for the opportunity.

We design our cover letter templates to match our premium and free resume templates for consistent job applications. For step-by-step guidance for writing your letter, visit our How to Write a Cover Letter page .
