Any self-respecting fan of golf should know what the PGA Tour is all about. That is why it comes as no surprise that PGA TOUR Golf Shootout has quickly become one of the top sports games since it was launched. Available on Android and iOS platforms, the game lets you experience what it is like to participate in the PGA Tour competition. You can sink birdies and hit holes in one in perfectly manicured courses.

Enjoy the stunningly realistic visuals are you compete in the most respected tournaments in golf. You can hone your skills by taking on the TPC courses in single-player mode while completing multiple Daily challenges. If you’re feeling a bit competitive, you can go against some of the best players around the world in Versus mode. There is a lot of content waiting to be unlocked, and you will need the help of our PGA TOUR Golf Shootout tips, cheats and tricks to get them all for free!

1. What Are Levels For?

You are probably wondering why there is a level system in a sports game like PGA TOUR Golf Shootout. First off, you get to have bragging rights as a veteran player if you have a higher level. More importantly, however, you gain access to more features of the game. Even though the game can be downloaded for free, a lot of its content is locked behind level requirements. You will need to level up quickly in order to fully enjoy everything that the game has to offer.

pga tour golf shootout tips

The level system also isn’t like more other games where you just keep playing and you automatically get experience for nearly every tap you make on the screen. Here you need to level up golf clubs in order to gain experience. You will have to put in a lot of work if you don’t want to spend real money in order to level up.

2. How To Level Up Clubs

If you are familiar with games like Clash Royale , you would be able to understand the club levels more quickly. Clubs are acquired mostly through opening packs. When you open a pack, you will see a countdown timer. You will need to wait until the timer reaches zero in order to get the contents of the pack. You can spend real money to skip the countdown timer, but that would be a waste. Packs contain random cards, so you will need to open up a lot of them in order to get what you need.

To level up a club in PGA TOUR Golf Shootout you need silver coins and enough duplicate cards of that club. You gain experience every time you level up a card, but the costs for the next level also increases. The good news is that you get access to even better clubs while you grind for experience. This makes you stronger while allowing you to unlock more content.

3. Open More Packs

Since the contents of packs are random, you won’t always get what you need to level up your clubs. That is why you need to open up as many packs as you can. If you have unlocked Challenges, you should complete all that you can in order to get more packs. Some Challenges reward you with packs that can be opened instantly. You should also check on your Clubhouse rewards for more packs.

If you are tired of waiting around for packs to open, you can speed up the process by spending premium currency. You get some premium currency for free from time to time, so you won’t have to spend real money. A better way to speed up packs, however, is by watching video advertisements.

4. Claim Your Freebies

When you have free time, you should drop by the in-game store. You can watch video advertisements from the store in order to get some freebies. Tap on the Free Rewards button at the bottom of the screen to watch the ads. This is an easy way to gain resources needed for upgrading your clubs. Try to watch a few videos every day in order to maximize your resource gain. You can watch up to five ads per day, and we recommend that you watch all of them because you get premium currency after the fifth video.

pga tour golf shootout tricks

Another freebie that you can get your hands on comes every 24 hours. You can claim this from the game’s main screen, and it can be opened without having to wait for timers. Even if you don’t have time to play for the day, make sure you still try to log in every 24 hours to claim your free reward.

Finally, you get free packs whenever you win in Versus mode. These are timed packs, so make sure you open them up as soon as you can. You should also set an alarm in order to claim them as soon as their timer is done. You can only have one pack queued up to open at any given time. That means every second that there isn’t a new pack queued up is wasted.

5. Improve Your FedEx Cup Rank

Gold is the premium currency in PGA TOUR Golf Shootout. Every pack you open has a small chance of containing some Gold. We also mentioned earlier that you can get some more gold by watching five ads per day. If you want more Gold, however, you will need to increase your FedEx Cup Rank. You can do this by simply playing more matches against other players. The game gives out rank rewards at the end of each season. The reward pack you get improves every 10 ranks. The better the reward, the more cards, coins, and Gold you will get when the season ends.

6. Play In Solo Mode

Everyone wants to play live PVP games, but there is some benefit to playing in solo mode. Aside from providing you a good way to practice your shots, you also earn a decent amount of loot in clearing single-player stages. This will help you level up more clubs and raise your player level even faster. Remember, the key to leveling up is getting as many resources as you can, even if it means playing against the AI once in a while.

7. How To Win Matches

How good you are in the game influences how fast you level up since you need to keep winning in order to get more cards, coins, and Gold. While the game relies heavily on skill, there are still a few things you can do to improve your chances of winning matches. First off, understand how the game works. Before you take a shot, you will need to choose a club. The game sets a default one for you, but you can choose a different one if you like. The game’s recommendation is usually a solid choice, so switch only if you know what you’re doing.

Once you have a club selected, you can drag on the ball to get a bird’s eye view of the course and see where your ball will most likely go. Keep in mind that wind and other conditions can still affect the final position of your ball. You can also influence the behavior of the ball by choosing where to first touch it before you drag. Touching the top side of the ball will give it a topspin, allowing it to bounce and roll when it lands. Touching the bottom side will make it roll backwards depending on the surface it touches.

pga tour golf shootout guide

Clubs also have a great impact on your gameplay. That’s the whole point of collecting them and leveling them up. They have different basic stats and special abilities. Make sure you pay attention to the descriptions before making your choice. You should also have multiple bags assembled, so you can switch between them depending on the kind of course you get. For example, if you are up against a narrow par 3 course, you should pick a Driver with higher accuracy. Power isn’t needed as much since it’s a smaller course. Packing bags with clubs that are designed for specific courses make it easier for you to gain the upper hand during a match. You get to have two bag slots for free. If you have the extra currency, you can unlock even more. For now, you can stick to one bag for smaller courses, and another for bigger ones.

A final tip for winning more games is to stop yourself from getting tilted. Golf is just as much a mental game than anything else. If you get a bad shot, don’t give up right away. If you’re lucky, your opponent might mess up even worse, giving you a chance to catch up. Even if you don’t win, you still have the chance of getting a tie. The game gives out Tie Tokens which gives you the chance to earn better packs if you win next time.

Leveling up in PGA TOUR Golf Shootout is easy, especially when you rely on the tips, cheats and tricks we have listed above! If you have anything to add, don’t hesitate to let us know using the comment box below!

PGA TOUR Golf Shootout cheats, tips - Expert swinging tips

Everything you need to get perfect shots

PGA TOUR Golf Shootout sees you facing off against other players online to take them down and show them how you operate a club. Hell yeah.

You’ll be playing off against real players in addition to set challenges, and to beat down those people and complete those challenges, you should read these tips.

Here we’re going over how to use your clubs and aim your shots, which is of course incredibly important. It seems like a simple system at first, but there’s a decent amount of nuance at play that can really help you if you manage to adjust your play.

Know your clubs

PGA TOUR Golf Shootout

This is a pretty smart game. I mean, the developers obviously know how golf clubs work. Better than me, at least. Which is nice, because that means each have specific advantages and disadvantages that you should take note of.

For most shots, the game will assign you the club in your bag that is best for the situation, and generally, you shouldn’t stray too far from the variety of clubs you start with.

A Wedge, a Driver and a Putter are all important tools for professional golfers, while Irons and Hybrids can be used for more specific situations.

You can of course assign your own clubs in your bag, which is recommended as you unlock a better variety, but take note of their benefits. Your starting clubs are good all-rounders, and other clubs tend to be more situational.

Check the stats of the clubs, including how far they can drive the ball, and how powerful their spin capabilities are. If you’re a more casual, straight shooter, then you might want to avoid those clubs which are better at giving your ball a spin.

Though, you should also feel confident about branching out a bit and using a bigger variety of clubs.

1 Hitting the mark

When you take a shot you just need to pull back on the golf ball, pulling it further back for more power, and holding it to the left or right to angle your shot.

You can slide your finger to the top of the screen to cancel your shot and select another club, if you so choose.

Generally, you should aim for that perfect mark in the centre of the screen, and the less power you have the easier it is to aim for that mark and not go too wide. Though, you can also tactically aim just off centre to angle your shots after aiming.

2 The better shot

When you first take your shot, the game will aim directly to the hole. This is good for shorter courses, but courses which are angled or have hazards, well, it’s less convenient.

You can, as with the last tip, aim your shot first, but also you might be able to use a different club for a better shot.

Some clubs might give a bit more accuracy, allowing you to aim shots squarely between sandbanks, for example.

3 Risk and reward

Every shot is a matter of risk and reward. The further you pull back on the shot, the more wildly it can go out of control. Very risky, and tempting, especially when that fully charged shot can take you near the green.

It's up to you, but sometimes, it's better to hit the fairway or the rough and not risk having your shot go out of bounds.

A tough decision to make, definitely, but it can be worthwhile to take the risk, especially if you feel like you've got good timing and reactions.

Hello golfers!

pga tour app tricks

You’ll notice as you’re traversing through the first Solo levels you’ll be starting out on Deere Run. With only some slight curves and most of its hazards being on the fringe, your initial bag is well-suited for this terrain. Speaking of, you’ll be starting out with:

Endeavor ( Driver) – The first club you upgrade! While it doesn’t boast tremendous amounts of power, it has good control and spin. Use it to your advantage to land straight in the fairway. At level 3, Endeavor gains the ability Brand Loyalty . This gives it +1 power per Willoughsby club next to it. If you truly want to go the extra distance, apply top spin to roll the ball further.

Huntsman (Wood) – Woods are great to use after your drive shot to close in on the green. At level 3, Huntsman unlocks its Tree Bonus ability. This gives it boosted stats depending on how many trees are within 25 feet. Land the ball near the big tree in the middle of Deere Run hole 4 and take advantage of the boost !

Bushwhacker (Iron) – Stuck in the rough, huh? Don’t fret! This iron adds +2 to all stats with its Rough Bonus ability if it’s in the rough or deep rough. This can be incredibly helpful if you need to get back on the fairway from the rough.

Sandsend (Wedge) – As the name implies, this wedge is best used in a sand trap. Be mindful of where to apply spin! Like Endeavor, Sandsend gains the ability Brand Loyalty at level 3. Use your other Willoughsby brand clubs to boost each others’ stats!

Homestead (Putter) – A solid, well-rounded putter for beginners and veterans alike. Like Endeavor and Sandsend, Homestead also gains Brand Loyalty at level 3. If you find Endeavor or Sandsend might be lacking power-wise, place it next to Homestead!

Next time we’ll be covering some additional clubs you’re likely to pick up as you progress through your daily challenges and the Solo levels. Are there other things you want featured? Let us know in the comments!

PGA Tour 2K23: Beginner Tips Guide

Ready to play some golf?

Quick Links

You don't need to be an expert to golf, learn the clubs, customize your clubs in the locker, grind xp and coins, allocate skill points to the essential clubs, tweak the settings, experiment with the archetypes.

Tiger Woods has once again revived the world of virtual golf with PGA Tour 2K23 , the latest installment to the universally acclaimed sports saga. Like before, players are invited to swing for stardom as an up-and-coming pro golfer over a series of dynamic courses, tournaments, and global events in its ever-evolving MyCareer mode.

PGA Tour 2K23: The 10 Best Golfers

Luckily, PGA Tour 2K23 has a litter of in-depth tutorials and starter challenges to help you take your first steps out on the green. Learning to master the sport, though, is another story, and one that involves a fair amount of trial and error backhand swings, putts, and tee-offs. But where do you begin in a world like PGA, and how exactly do you build up a certain repertoire that puts you on par with the poster children of the sport?

Updated November 21, 2023, by Sean Murray: These PGA 2K23 Tips are sure to get your golfing career off to a great start. We've tweaked this guide's formatting slightly and also given it more links to other helpful PGA 2K23 topics.

PGA Tour 2K23 does a remarkable job at accommodating both newcomers to the series and seasoned veterans who've followed it since its 1990 debut. Because of this, it's fair to say that you don't need to be an expert with all the answers to hit the grass running.

Of course, previous experience is a major plus in a series like PGA Tour, especially if you're looking to challenge others in its online multiplayer mode. That said, you can learn all there is to learn without having an existing wealth of knowledge already stowed away under your belt.

If this is your very first rodeo with PGA Tour, then rest assured that 2K doesn't expect you to be an elite golfer to make a mark on the green.

It's no secret that a lot of newcomers to the series fail to make their shots because of the clubs they choose to bring to the course. Make no mistake that missing a shot can boil down to a number of factors, but selecting the wrong club is a definite no-no in PGA Tour , and can consequently cause you to struggle to make par.

Therefore, before you hit the green, be sure to experiment with each of the varied clubs until you've grasped the basics.

PGA Tour 2K23 offers a generous selection of clubs, all of which come loaded with their own purpose. The good news here is that your caddie will determine which club you need whenever you're about to tee off.

That said, just because the caddie hands you a club doesn't mean you should always follow up with it . The more you learn about the clubs and their capabilities, the more you can test your caddie's knowledge out on the green by switching up the defaults.

You can change your club by pressing up or down on the D-Pad .

PGA Tour 2K23: All MyPLAYER Archetypes, Ranked

Your default clubs will only take you so far in a game like PGA Tour 2K23, which is precisely why you should build up enough coins to shop for upgrades . These upgrades come in the form of Fittings , which can be applied to any of your clubs in the Locker section.

You can only apply up to three Fittings for each club , and each one is scaled by rarity .

It goes without saying that adding just one of these Fittings to a club can boost your game when out on the green. Each Fitting has a number of attributes, including shot power , timing , swing path , and shaping .

Applying only the rarest will definitely give you the upper hand when fending off opponents in any of the game modes.

To make it anywhere in MyCareer , you're going to need a lot of top-shelf cosmetics . Unfortunately, cosmetics come at a price, and unless you've stashed away a whole treasury of coins, you won't be able to equip them to help triple your A game.

Therefore, you're going to want to grind XP and coins , which can be done by competing in global events and challenges .

Of course, taking part in any round will help you gain a foothold on the ladder, but to truly make an impact, you're going to want to win events and challenges . Like in PGA Tour 2K22, the higher the difficulty setting, the more XP you will acquire on completion .

Claiming consecutive wins will rack up your XP Multiplier , which will, in turn, fast-track your character to superstardom.

As you shovel your way through MyCareer, you will earn XP from beating events, which can be used to unlock a variety of perks for each of your acquired clubs . However, if you dump XP into skill trees for clubs that aren't used all that much, then you're only shooting yourself in the foot.

It's always best to prioritize allocating points to the essential clubs .

When it comes to building up your skill trees, you will want to focus on the driver , irons , wedge , and putter . As these are the clubs you'll be using the majority of the time, it's best to cram as much XP into developing their attributes and leveling up the tiers.

There is a total of 126 skills to choose from in PGA Tour 2K23, only 50 of which can be collected by leveling up your character. When it comes to picking skill trees to evolve, try and aim for the clubs you favor the most on the green .

PGA Tour 2K23: The 10 Best Courses

It may seem obvious at this point, but changing your settings to suit your personal preferences can definitely help you out in the long run. Although it is recommended that you play on a higher difficulty to maximize your chances of netting more XP, it doesn't mean you should never settle for something a little less threatening as and when needed.

If you navigate to the MyCareer Presets , you will find three adjustable sliders: Opponent Difficulty , Conditions Difficulty , and Rounds Per Event . If you're still learning the basics and aren't quite ready to dive into the deep end, then you can change the top two sliders to Very Easy , which will give you more leeway when playing rounds.

You still acquire XP for completing global events and challenges on the easier difficulties .

PGA Tour 2K23 lets you choose from five different archetypes , all of which come preloaded with their own abilities and perks. You can alter your character to accommodate any of these archetypes for free in MyCareer, and doing so can help you get a feel for each respective skill tree.

For example, the Powerhouse archetype is better suited for players wanting to drive the ball with speed and power, whereas the Greensman archetype favors putting over drive .

Before diving into any global event, you should aim to experiment with each of the five available archetypes, which are Powerhouse, Greensman, Rhythm, Sculptor, and Woodsman .

You can change your archetype between events by going to the MyPlayer menu and selecting Golfer . From here, scroll over to the Archetypes tab and pick the one that you would like to equip.

PGA Tour app, website getting complete overhaul ahead of 2023 season

Casual fans asked. Diehard fans asked. Gamblers (extra-diehard fans) asked. Even PGA Tour players asked. And they listened. The PGA Tour app and PGATour.com have been entirely redone ahead of 2023, with both set to unveiled new and improved versions in the coming weeks.

This news is sure to be well-received by golf fans who have struggled with loading speeds, incorrect scores, lack of video and imagery, and other issues on the PGA Tour app and website. Not surprisingly, those issues and concerns have been voiced—loudly—on social media over the years.

Those criticisms were not only heard but accounted for in the updates. Eric Hanson, PGA Tour VP of Digital Product Development, led the initiative from the start, spending much of his time doing fan and user research as well as talking to tour players who also frequent the app.

RELATED: Another PGA Tour pro can boast of winning $10 million in his career without actually winning

As big a deal as the website redesign is, the app overhaul will be of greater interest to younger golf fans who consume everything via mobile devices that fits in their pocket. Both iOS and Android users can manually update the PGA Tour app beginning on Tuesday, although those who have "auto updates" on won't see anything different just yet. The relaunch is a limited release, also known as a slow rollout, beginning with one percent of the users and then five, 10, 20 percent and so on. This will allow the tour to get instant feedback on how the app is performing and will allow developers to respond to any issues or bugs that may arise. By the end of this week’s RSM Classic, it will be available to everyone.

What can fans expect from the new app? For starters, according to Hanson, faster loading speeds, particularly for the leader board, which will be more user-friendly and will have a cleaner look. As soon as the ball goes in the hole, the app will update your favorite player's score, and you'll be able to quickly go into their scorecard to see shot trails and stats. This will be of particular intrigue to actual players.

"We didn't realize how many players come into our app and get their stats from their round," Hanson said. "One of the things they wanted to be able to do was parse it by round. They'll be able to do that and see how they're playing overall with all of these filters we built inside the app to allow both fans and players to go through all these different stats and really dive deep into them."

/content/dam/images/golfdigest/fullset/2022/Leaderboard2-Final.png

Adding more visual stories and course imagery was also prioritized. The first thing fans will see when they open the new app is highlights from whichever round of a particular tournament is going on, and they'll be able to relive a player's full round via a clickthrough visual story like on Instagram. A photo of each hole at a particular week's host venue will be available on the app, and next year the photo will be replaced by drone flyover videos.

/content/dam/images/golfdigest/fullset/2022/Courses-Final.png

Fans, gamblers specifically, will be thrilled to find out they can now follow just one player or an entire group more closely than ever. Those who fancy themselves "three-ball" or "matchup" sharps can now lock in on one twosome or threesome and see the stats behind each shot the moment after they are struck. In order to follow three players at once previously, you had to favorite each one and open their scorecard separately. In the new app, you can open up the scorecard for an entire group and see how they stack up against each other shot-by-shot.

Player profiles are getting a new look, too, with the profile prominently featuring the player—so much so that a number of pros have already asked to reshoot their photos because they are much larger. More importantly, though, fans and players alike will be able to go in and quickly find past results, career-best FedEx Cup ranking, lowest-career round, last win and much more. A number of players have been given a chance to touch and feel the new technology, and Hanson says it already has the Max Homa seal of approval.

RELATED: Defending champ Collin Morikawa withdraws from DP World Tour Championship

Instagram and Apple News heavily influenced the PGA Tour’s new app, along with the NBA app, which Scott Gutterman, PGA Tour SVP Digital Operations, says is the guiding point of what a sports app can and should be.

"We're pretty excited to get to the point where after the New Year, we'll be auto-generating player summaries and video for players that you've favorited," Gutterman said. "So if you've favorited Tony Finau, you'd be getting his outstanding first round in Houston—you'd get a 'story' version of his round automatically. We'll be able to do that for every player. For us, it's a combination of what we've seen going on in media, what we've seen going on in sports, and what are the other technologies that we know are emerging that we can leverage to help us create content for every one of our players."

/content/dam/images/golfdigest/fullset/2022/221114-Stories-Final.png

The way the app launches when you first open it is, according to Hanson, "the thing we've all gravitated toward." Hanson has spent days and nights on this new version of the app and believes that's what people will love most. The other feature, at least from listening to the fans over the years, is how much faster it will be.

"You don't need to reinvent the leader board and scorecards," Hanson says. "You just need to make them accurate and faster, and that's what we've tried to do here. Really focus on the bread and butter of what we do and make it work better and make it more repeatable."

Back to the gamblers—next year, Hanson says fans will be able to follow on a "horizontal leader board" (rotate your phone sideways) specifically designed for those following from a betting or daily fantasy perspective. This will include a real-time strokes-gained leader board, a live play-by-play leader board and the ability to see where every player is on the course at a specific time.

Most importantly, the team behind the redesign is prepared to quickly respond with enhancements to both the app and website on demand. When Golf Twitter inevitably explodes over the first misstep, the issue will be resolved much faster than it would have in the past. "There's nothing people say on social media or a podcast that we don't hear, to be honest with you," Hanson says.

In the coming weeks and months, things will absolutely be said on social media and podcasts about the new version of the app, and Hanson and Co. will be able to listen to all of them and react accordingly. Speed and ease-of-use will remain paramount, and it sounds like the app will be great improved in each of those departments. So far, so good.

EA PGA Tour how to putt

How to Putt in EA Sports PGA Tour – All Tips and Tricks

Image of Đorđe Ivanović

Playing EA Sports PGA Tour for the first time will definitely put you before many challenges. Even if you are a veteran of this digital golfing experience some moves can be pretty hard to master and can only be perfected with practice.

Putting is one of those skills that troubled many players of the EA Sports PGA Tour. Like for every other shot, there are many in-game parameters to help you make the perfect putt, but even after a couple of tries, you feel like you’re still at square one. Read on to learn some practical tips and tricks that can up your putt game and make you a Major Champion.

Putting in EA Explained

The first advice we can give you for better putting in EA Sports PGA Tour is to practice, practice, practice. I know from my own personal experience that I just got a feeling for most of the games I’ve played and I didn’t really strategize much or think about which buttons I was pressing. It’s the same when you are playing any sport really, the more you kick/throw the ball the better you get and your muscle memory takes over. The same is true for the careful putt shots in EA Sports PGA Tour.

When it comes to practical advice in the game, the most important thing is that you pay attention to the putt read line as that will be your guide to a perfect putt. It will show you the break and the curvature your golf ball will take when you strike it.

Next, you need to pay attention to setting an ideal weight for your putt. You will want to pay attention to whether you need to hit the golf ball uphill or downhill. Hitting it with either one of those circumstances will require that you adjust your aim distance accordingly.

For example, if you have a 15-foot putt that is 5 inches downhill, you would have to move your aim to 10 feet to get the perfect shot. On the other hand, if it was a 15-foot putt with 5 inches uphill, you would need to set your aim to 20 feet. Hitting the golf ball too strong or too weak is one of the most common mistakes players make when putting.

TPC Craig Ranch is a par-72 and 7,414 yards, often ranking as one of the easiest courses on tour. It’s a wide-open layout with very few hazards to trip up players. It’s why the winning score has been between 23-under and 26-under in each of the last 3 years.

CJ Cup Byron Nelson – Top-5 picks

Odds provided by BetMGM Sportsbook ; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Jordan Spieth (+350)

Admittedly, it’s really hard to get behind Spieth with the way he’s been playing lately, but he’s back home in Texas and has good course history (2nd and 9th). Even as inconsistent as he’s been this season, he has the ability to flip a switch very quickly and get back on track.

Alex Noren (+450)

Noren has finished between 9th and 23rd in each of his last 5 starts this season and has results of 12th and 21st in 2 starts at TPC Craig Ranch. He’s a perfect blend of recent form and tournament history.

CJ Cup Byron Nelson – Top-10 picks

Tom hoge (+320).

Hoge should find himself in contention just based on his ball-striking, but he’s also putting the ball well enough to win soon, too. In his last 2 individual events, he’s finished 18th and 14th.

Keith Mitchell (+375)

Mitchell has played really well this season, with his lone hiccup recently coming at the Houston Open where he missed the cut. That was right after his collapse at the Valspar Championship but he’s since gotten back on track with a T-14 at the Valero Texas Open.

Byeong Hun An (+275)

An finished 14th here last year and he was on a roll this season before missing the cut at the Players and Valero Texas Open. He bounced back with a T-16 at the Masters and with this week being a birdie fest, he should be in the mix.

CJ Cup Byron Nelson – Top-20 picks

Nate lashley (+333).

Lashley has finished 17th and 23rd in his last 2 starts in this event and earlier this year, he came in 3rd at the Famers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. All we need is a top 20 and it’s a good value at +333.

C.T. Pan (+333)

Pan came in 4th place at this tournament last year, the first time he played this event. He’s currently on a 6-event made-cut streak and if he plays the weekend at TPC Craig Ranch, he’ll have a decent shot at cracking the top 20.

Jhonattan Vegas (+500)

Vegas came in 23rd at the Corales Puntacana Championship, his 2nd top-25 finish this season. Back in 2021, he finished 9th and he made the cut (59th-place finish) in 2022, which are his lone 2 starts in this event.

CJ Cup Byron Nelson – Matchups

Suggested play is golfer in bold .

Byeong Hun An (-110) vs. Min Woo Lee (-110)

It’s not that I don’t like Lee this week, but I just prefer An. Lee hasn’t taken that major step forward that many were expecting this year and he missed the cut last year when An finished 14th.

CJ Cup Byron Nelson – Top English

Aaron rai (+160).

Rai ranks 27th in SG: tee-to-green, but it’s been his putting holding him back. It’s not a great field for Englishmen, with Matt Wallace having the 2nd-best odds at +350, so I’ll take Rai.

CJ Cup Byron Nelson – First-round leader

Alex noren (+3300).

Noren ranks 7th on tour in 1st-round scoring average this season. He fired a 65 here in the opening round in 2021, which was tied for 7th.

CJ Cup Byron Nelson – To make the cut

An, min woo lee and hoge: yes (+165).

I like all 3 players this week with how open the course is. An and Lee are good drivers of the football, while Hoge is a terrific iron player.

‘One Shot Away’: Follow Korn Ferry Tour stars on journey to PGA TOUR card

Change Text Size

The Korn Ferry Tour winds its way through several countries and U.S. states, with roughly 150 players seeking 30 PGA TOUR cards.

The 2024 Korn Ferry Tour schedule includes 26 events, hundreds of travel hours, and thousands of decisions to strategize. In the end, a single stroke could be the difference between fulfilling a lifelong dream and waiting until next year.

That’s the Korn Ferry Tour’s dramatic reality, which is depicted on “One Shot Away.”

'One Shot Away' season 5 trailer

The series, produced by PGA TOUR Entertainment, goes behind the scenes in capturing the essence of players’ lives inside and outside the ropes, seeking any marginal advantage that could potentially save a stroke throughout the season, which could prove the difference in earning a PGA TOUR card or returning to the Korn Ferry Tour in 2025.

The top 30 finishers on the 2024 Korn Ferry Tour Points List, finalized after the season-ending Korn Ferry Tour Championship presented by United Leasing & Finance in October, will earn 2025 PGA TOUR membership. That’s the goal, with various ways to get there – it could be a couple of big weeks, or a series of steady showings. If past is prescient, the graduating class will include a mix of promising up-and-comers and wily veterans, looking to follow the lead of Scottie Scheffler (Korn Ferry Tour Class of 2019) and ascend to world No. 1.

Who will hear their name called at the season finale and receive a coveted PGA TOUR card? That’s anyone’s guess, and that’s the Korn Ferry Tour’s beauty.

Here's a capsule look at the 2024 cast of “One Shot Away” and the six Korn Ferry Tour members who are each seeking their first PGA TOUR card for 2025:

  • Tim Widing : The Swede attended high school with Ludvig Åberg and looks to join his countryman on TOUR in 2025. Widing is a trick-shot enthusiast who played collegiately at the University of San Francisco and earned his first Korn Ferry Tour title at the LECOM Suncoast Classic in April.
  • Fred Biondi : The University of Florida product authored a nifty double in 2023, winning the NCAA Division I men’s golf individual title while also helping the Gators win a team championship. The Brazil native finished No. 2 on the 2023 PGA TOUR University Ranking, behind only Åberg, to earn Korn Ferry Tour membership.
  • Ross Steelman : The Missouri native began his college career at the University of Missouri before transferring to Georgia Tech, where he finished No. 4 on the 2023 PGA TOUR University Ranking to earn Korn Ferry Tour membership. Steelman, 23, learned the game at Perche Creek, a hybrid go-kart track/mini golf course and driving range in his hometown of Columbia, Missouri, and his family drove to various junior events across the Midwest in his formative years – a la Scheffler.
  • Cooper Dossey : The Texas native played collegiately at Baylor University, where he became the school’s first First Team All-American in 2020, and he spent two years on mini-tours before earning Korn Ferry Tour status via PGA TOUR Q-School presented by Korn Ferry last fall. Dossey, 26, embraces his stutter, stamping his wedges with words that he struggles to say. He also hosts a podcast called “The Stutter Putter.”
  • Sam Choi : The gregarious Californian graduated from the University of New Mexico before spending a fifth collegiate season at Pepperdine in 2022-23, finishing No. 11 on the PGA TOUR University Ranking before turning pro. Choi, 23, finished No. 2 on the 2023 PGA TOUR Canada’s season-long Fortinet Cup to earn Korn Ferry Tour membership for this season. Outside of golf, he enjoys pickleball and spikeball.
