Tennis are a dreamy indie pop duo from Denver, US consisting of husband and wife Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley whose musical adventure began in 2010.
It’s not unusual to take a well needed break after graduating from university, when Moore and Riley completed their studies they decided to embark on a seven month sailing expedition around the Eastern Atlantic Seaboard. During their time on board, the pair began writing together inspired by their journey and it was then they decided to pursue the musical project, Tennis.
Their first release came in 2010 with the “Baltimore” EP through the independent label Underwater Peoples. The following year the duo signed with Fat Possum Records and released their debut full length album “Cape Dory” which received critical acclaim. As a conceptual album, it was inspired by the pairs love of sailing and voyages through a collection of romanticised songs such as “Baltimore”, “Seafarer” and “Bimini Bay”. It was the first time they had written material intended to share with the public to be performed live.
Tennis’ follow up album “Young and Old” released in 2012 produced by The Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney featured vocal harmonies inspired by Carole King, Judee Sill and 50’s girl groups. The album gave the duo the freedom to diversify in style with a bit of good old rock and roll thrown in the mix complimented by the poppy piano with catchy tracks like “Origins” and “High Road”. Later that year Moore and Riley were named writers of the week by American Songwriter.
Signing with Communion Records in 2013, Tennis released their second EP “Small Sound” which was a perfect blend of the styles apparent in their previous albums, bringing back the at the sea feeling with twists of sunny pop elements running throughout.
After sharing studio space with the Haim sisters, they were invited to support them on a nationwide tour in May 2014, the perfect opportunity for Tennis to shine enchanting audiences while bringing a carefree and joyous nature for all to take pleasure in.
Live reviews
I had been looking forward to seeing Tennis for quite some time. Naturally, my expectations were high. The whole “surf-pop” sound has gained a lot of popularity lately, and Tennis is certainly one of the genre’s pioneers. I mean, the entire first album is based on Alaina and Patrick’s experience spending seven months at sea!
Expectations aside, they put on a really great show. The venue, Crescent Ballroom, has quickly become one of the most premier and iconic places to see a concert in Phoenix. Modest in size with roughly 500 capacity, the lighting and sound production, intimate environment, and central downtown location all serve to provide a wonderful live music experience. It didn’t seem like the event had sold out, as there was a decent amount of room to move about the ballroom. That suited me just fine. While I don’t dance a tremendous amount at live shows, you can bet that when “My Better Self” began playing, I was swinging my hips a bit.
One thing that really surprised me about the band was lead-vocalist, Alaina Moore’s, strikingly diminutive stature. A woman of that size singing with such power and conviction is truly a sight to behold. Admittedly, I am a sucker for powerful female singer-songwriters. Regardless, it was nothing short of inspirational.
Meanwhile, her husband and guitarist, Patrick Riley, led the songs’ melodies—his long blonde hair, characteristically unkempt, waving back and forth with the cadence of the particular song. There were only two other members to complete the outfit. The drummer was solid. As a percussionist myself, I tend to be very critical of live drummers, and I don’t recall anything worth condemning—though I may have been slightly distracted by the mesmerizing performance of Alaina. The last member to round out the four-piece floated around filling in for whatever component was needed at the time; were it bass-guitar, auxiliary percussion, etc.
Despite being comprised of only four members, the band was able to produce a truly full sound. The songs were also easily identifiable as the same shiny, packaged versions we were all familiar with. The set flowed nicely and included many songs off their latest release, Ritual In Repeat, such as: “Never Work for Free,” “I’m Callin’” and “Timothy.” The band was wise in their approach, though, as to not exclude fan-favorites like, “Origins” and “It All Feels the Same.”
They closed out the set with my personal favorite, “My Better Self.” The swinging drumbeat came crashing in, followed by the familiar sustained piano, and it was in that exact moment that the entire crowd came to life with excitement. What a wonderful way to end the show!
I know what you’re thinking. “But what about Marathon?”
Not moments after Tennis walked off-stage, the audience roared in demand. And the band was quick to oblige their requests.Only Alaina and Patrick returned, at first, to perform a stripped-down, acoustic version of “Bad Girls.” They said they wanted to play it as it had been written. It was a beautifully genuine rendition, and one of my favorite moments from the entire performance. Immediately following that, the remainder of the band took up their instruments. You could feel a sense of completion sweep across the audience as soon as the words, “Coconut Grove…” came through the PA speakers.
Overall, it was a fully satisfying experience.

To fully understand The Roots you must see them perform live. After you witness their brand of fully instrumental live hip-hop this enigmatic group of musicians begins to make sense.
To classify The Roots as simply a hip-hop act is to do them a disservice. Yes they are hip-hop (Black Thought makes sure of that) but they are also so many other things. Their music has grown to incorporate everything from cool jazz and socially conscious spoken word to classical and the downright experimental. Long before The Roots were the platinum selling, Grammy awarded house band for the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, they were continually on the road bringing it to the people “live from the 215." For over twenty years the Roots toured the globe over and back again, slowly growing a loyal and diverse fan base. ?uestLove’s drumming is the backbone of every performance. He leads the band from behind his drum kit and every horn, guitar, and tuba falls into their groove. They will pull songs from their entire catalog of ten plus albums. Classics like "You Got Me" and "The Seed 2.0" have a new twist every performance, likening them to a Jazz band with their improvisation. One night they might place a 15 minute cover of Bob Dylan’s "Master’s of War" and the next show they will do an interpretation of a Bill Withers war protest song. They are constantly evolving and pushing themselves in new directions.
In this way, they are transcendent of all classification. The only constant thing about The Roots is that every night will be a completely unique set of music, never to be performed exactly that way again.
Molly Burch opened for Tennis and she was a little sweetheart so interactive with the crowd, I swear she pointed at me when she was singing and her voice was so beautiful I was on the verge of crying. Then Tennis came on I was intimidated at first by the way they walked on the stage looking like these big celebrities and they busted into song I was in Awee that Alainas voice was just as clear and light and magical like on Spotify. After that song they spoke with us fans and I felt like I knew them and they played nothing but the fucking hits. Every song was a banger I wouldn’t stop singing and dancing to every song they played. The crowd/audience showed so much love and I could tell they appreciated and loved us as well they did an encore and performed songs I didn’t know but I easily fell in love with and I caught on and started singing too. I didn’t expect to love them even more after the show, I didn’t think it was possible. What a great show, I hope to hear more from them and see them again soon!
alaina & patrick are amazing musicians. they play incredible & catchy MOR tunes.
i was visiting from new zealand to california when i found out the last date of the Solo in Stereo 2018 tour which will be in their home town Denver CO, the Central Presbyterian Church in downtown Denver.
i was eagerly waiting for the couple to come out in the merchandise table & meet the fans but they did not.
what a disappointment ☹️
any way, my effort of travelling from calif to denver was worth the time because of the good music they share with us fans
What a fantastic show. Alaina's voice is even more beautiful live and she has amazing chemistry with Patrick. You can clearly tell that they're soulmates when they are performing together. They played lots from their new album, as well as fan favorites from Ritual in Repeat. An unexpected surprise was Marathon from Cape Dory!
Something that was unexplainably weird was when Alaina crouched over on the stage to hold hands with a really zealous fan, he basically repeatedly kept on slapping her hands to the beat. Not cool, dude.
Really great show Aliana and Patrick were great together they did a version of Bad Girls with just them, and it was beautiful and amazing take on the song. The set was great with the different lighting for each song. I got some solid pictures during the show. Maybe, take pictures with fans after the show it'd be greatly apprecaited, although I don't know if there was a nice spot at the Soul Kitchen to do so. Can't wait to see them again hopefully soon if you have the chance to see them I highly recommend it.
Great show, they performed well. They made the crowd hype up in a mellow cool way by playing songs from all their albums & played some new ones as well. They have a following for sure. Talked to the crowd, sharing cool stories & even gave a motivation speech about how success shouldn’t be defined & limited as how society & social media portrays it. I was happy to be there & to experience a new vibe since I am quite new to live music experiences.
Great show! Was their last show of a 2 month tour and all the vibes were in the room. They were trading new songs with oldies for the first half of the show, but working in the classics: I'm Calling, Needle and a Knife, Origins, My Better Self...
At one point they played a new song that Alaina wrote Patrick for their anniversary. The ladies were excited about this one :)
Great live band - always great to see them.
They were okay--Tennis is never a live show to write home about (I went for Overcoats), but their sound was super screwed up at Trees. You couldn't even hear the music over all the bass. The levels were horrendously off. And they're pretty boring live anyway, so if the music is off...well, we left after the first three songs. Overcoats was outstanding, though! :)
They were amazing!! They needed to do a better mic check though because for over half the show we couldn't hear the vocalist at all. Other than that they were charismatic and engaging. She talked to the audience enough to make us feel connected and immersed and her stage presence was almost enough to forget about the shotty mics.

Tennis is Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley. The two met in the philosophy department at the University of Colorado in 2008 after dropping out of their respective music programs. In the years after graduating, they got involved in Denver’s DIY music scene. Through house shows, they were connected with Underwater Peoples, and Firetalk.
Tennis’ first singles “South Carolina,” “Baltimore,” and “Marathon” were released in 2010. The band went blog-viral nearly overnight, landing them a record deal with Fat Possum.
Cape Dory, (2011 on Fat Possum), documents Moore and Riley’s time spent living aboard a small sailboat on the Atlantic coast. The album debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Heatseeker chart, transitioning Tennis from house-shows to stages such as Lollapalooza.
Tennis recorded their sophomore effort Young & Old (2012) with Patrick Carney of the Black Keys. They made their television debut on The Tonight Show, The Late Show, and Conan.
In 2014 they signed with Communion. The resulting release, Ritual in Repeat was the culmination of separate recording sessions with Richard Swift, Jim Eno and Patrick
Carney. Moore and Riley were greatly influenced by Richard Swift’s approach to recording and engineering, prompting Riley’s decision to take over as engineer on their future releases.
With shifting labels and new interests, Tennis chose an alternate path for their band and career. In 2016, Moore and Riley formed the label Mutually Detrimental and began self-releasing. Their newfound freedom allowed them to return to their sailboat to write their next full-length, this time in the Sea of Cortez. Yours Conditionally, released in 2017, became their most commercially successful album–charting at #4 on Billboard’s Independent list and in the top 100 highest selling vinyl releases that year. They played Coachella and opened for artists like The National, Father John Misty and The
Shins–proving their DIY roots as a cornerstone to their sound and narrative.
Their follow up Swimmer (2020), was recorded in their home studio with Moore and
Riley producing and engineering. The pair brought their long-time touring member Steve Voss in for the second time to drum on record. The singles, Need Your Love and
Runner, were Tennis’ most successful releases to date. With nearly every show on tour sold-out (including two consecutive nights at Brooklyn Steel) the album’s campaign was cut short by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Pollen, Tennis’ sixth studio album was released on February 10, 2023 (Mutually Detrimental)

Sam Evian knew he wanted to leave New York City almost as soon as he arrived, more than a decade ago. An upstart songwriter and producer, he, of course, loved its creative wellspring—the ideas, the instrumentalists, the energy. But he’d grown up in the woods of upstate New York and, later, along the coast on the rather empty eastern end of North Carolina. The city was expensive, anxious, and unsettling, however inspiring it could be.
So in the Summer of 2017, he and his band decamped to a rented house upstate to cut his second album, the magnetic You, Forever. He then realized he could no longer resist the urge; two years ago, Sam and his partner, Hannah Cohen, split from the city, building their refuge in the quiet of a Catskills town. That reflective, relaxing environment inexorably shaped Time to Melt, his third LP and debut for Fat Possum. A glowing set of soulfully psychedelic pop gems, Time to Melt is a testimonial to the life and wisdom to be found when you give yourself the mercy of space.
During the last decade, Sam has become a preeminent collaborator, producing and engineering records for the likes of Big Thief, Cass McCombs, and Widowspeak as Sam Owens, his given name. In their new home, he and Hannah hosted bands like house guests as he helmed their sessions. The coronavirus, though, clamped down on those interactions, largely sealing the couple from their longtime scene.
So Sam tried something new: He sorted through more than 60 instrumental demos he’d recorded in the last two years and began shaping the most enticing of them into songs with help from Hannah and a cadre of long-distance friends—Spencer Tweedy, Chris Bear, Jon Natchez, even strangers who sent him voice memos via Instagram. He took the unexpected time at home to dig deeper into his world of sounds and ideas than ever before, calmly considering our moment of prevailing chaos through a lens of newfound distance.
But the last few years have been purely happy for mostly no one, Sam included. Time to Melt reckons with the weight of our time, even when it sounds largely weightless. Inspired by John Coltrane’s mixture of grace and gravitas and Marvin Gaye’s uncanny ability to turn social issues into personal anthems, Sam strove to give these otherwise-beguiling instrumentals the thoughtfulness and depth these days demand.
With its rubbery bassline and sweeping strings, “Freezee Pops” unfurls like a Summer breeze. It reads, though, like poetic testimony on police brutality, an innocent kid’s life plundered for prison-system profits. And “Knock Knock” taps Sam’s memories of race-and-class violence in the small-town South and his subsequent reckoning with our crumbling American façade, where “we tell ourselves almost anything but the truth.” The song is ultimately a tribute to the perseverance of the vulnerable, who find community and joy in spite of the way centuries of miscreants try to deny it.
There are also songs of utter celebration on Time to Melt, paeans to whatever joy it is we find in life or love. Buttressed by bold baritone sax, lifted by exuberant trumpet, and washed in fluorescent guitars, “Easy to Love” is an exultant ode to finding a new paradise outside of the city, an idyllic setting where you can plant love and literally watch it bloom. “Lonely Days” blows in with a muted brooding, but it’s a feint for Sam’s sweet hymn to a blissful partnership of shared solitude, a true blessing for a year when so many have been alone. “Lonely days are gone,” he repeats, his rhythm shifting just enough in the middle of the sentence to tease dejection and surprise with delight. Sam is so content in the Catskills that the lovely but warped “Sunshine” finds him imagining how heartache must feel, as though it were only ever a hypothetical muse. He sublimates a sense of seasick sadness into a compulsively funky oddity.
At home now near the Ashokan Reservoir with their new rescue dog, Jan, Sam and Hannah mostly listen to music while they cook dinner. That’s the kind of record Sam wanted to make—an album of sounds so pleasant and compelling that you put it on and follow the slipstream. He succeeded; Time to Melt is a waking dream, its intoxicating rhythms and timbral webs as settling, even seductive as an evening glass of wine. But making dinner, or whatever your ritual at day’s end may be, isn’t some idle exercise. It’s a place to unpack the pain and wonder, the suffering and promise of the moment, to reflect on where you have been and what might come next. In 40 striking minutes, or the time it may take you to make that meal, Time to Melt sorts through a year of a life spent in rage and hope, lockdown and love.

Welcome To 2023 In Tennis Paradise! With the stage set for this year’s BNP Paribas Open, check out a special preview of this year’s tournament with 23 Key Things you need to know for the 2023 BNP Paribas Open.
1.The first (combined) Masters 1000 season… The 2023 BNP Paribas Open is the first ATP Masters 1000 event of the season and the first tournament of this level to feature both the world’s best men & women at the same event. The WTA held their first 1000 event in February, which was won by Barbora Krejcikova.
2. No doubles trouble in the desert… As always, Indian Wells features some of the most exciting doubles pairings on the calendar – and the fans always flock to see these rare pairings in action throughout the fortnight. In addition to the top-ranked teams of Krejcikova & Katerina Siniakova and Rajeev Ram & Joe Salisbury, this year features Casper Ruud pairing up with 2019 champ Dominic Thiem, a wunderkind team of Ben Shelton and Holger Rune, and the elite American duo of Coco Gauff & Jessica Pegula. The defending Tennis Paradise Doubles champions are the American duo of John Isner/Jack Sock for the ATP and the Chinese duo of Xu Yifan/Yang Zhaoxuan for the WTA.
3. Up your on-court style on site… Take a break between matches to peruse our three amazing (and upgraded!) shopping options at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden this year. The Tennis Paradise Shop by features exclusive and expanded looks for this year’s tournament, while at the FILA store and Tennis Warehouse you can find the fits and equipment that the pros are sporting on court.
4. Lucky fourth-round finish… The farthest that a Lucky Loser (a player who loses in qualifying but gets a main-draw slot after a player withdraws) has ever made it at the BNP Paribas Open is the fourth round. That player was Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia, who followed up her 2021 fourth-round finish with a sensational 2022 campaign that saw her win the WTA’s Most Improved Player prize. The 26 year old has been in excellent form to start the current season as well – could she be poised to make a deep run in Indian Wells?
5. It might be tough to top the legends… Tennis legends Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic are tied at five for most BNP Paribas Open titles. The next most won by any active player is one, with Dominic Thiem, Cameron Norrie and Taylor Fritz each claiming a title over the last three years. Will anyone catch up to Rog and Nole from this current generation?
6. Seeds already one step closer to glory… Seeded players at the BNP Paribas Open benefit from a first-round bye, meaning it will only take them six wins to lift the coveted (and heavy) Baccarat Trophy compared to the seven needed by an unseeded entrant. Keeping your ranking up throughout the year can definitely pay dividends here – only one unseeded player has won the men’s singles event since 2000 (Alex Corretja – 2000) and two on the women’s side (Naomi Osaka – 2018, Bianca Andreescu – 2019).
7. Serving up new menu offerings… Just when you thought the food at the Indian Wells Tennis Gardens couldn’t get any better – it has. This year features a whopping seven new offerings, including funky hot dog combinations at Pink’s, the mouthwatering eats of Bistro 88 by Jet Tila (of Food Network fame), and Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream too cool off after a long day of sizzling tennis. 🍦
8. Eisenhower Cup to showcase mixed doubles… Mixed doubles? In the desert? No, this isn’t a mirage – this year’s Eisenhower Cup by Masimo will feature eight teams of ATP-WTA combinations playing the the “Tiebreak Tens” match format (first to 10 points wins the match). Some marquee teams you won’t want to miss: Taylor Fritz + Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek + Hubert Hurkacz, and Felix Auger-Aliassime & Leylah Fernandez. The Eisenhower Cup kicks off at 7:15pm PST on Tuesday!
9. Everything (Tennis), Everywhere, All At Once… With nine show courts for matches and a whopping *20* practice courts on site, a ticket to the 2023 BNP Paribas Open has literally all the tennis you could ever dream of – in this universe and the next.
10. Sabalenka’s scintillating start to 2023… Did you know recent Australian Open champ Aryna Sabalenka won her first 10 matches of the season in straight sets? She blitzed through the draw in Adelaide for her first title and then followed it up with a maiden Grand Slam title in Melbourne, dropping the first set (after 20 in a row) to reigning Wimbledon champ Elena Rybakina before coming back to win after three high-quality sets of tennis. Anyone for a rematch in two weeks time? 🤔
11. The renaissance of American men’s tennis… Anyone who says American men’s tennis has declined over the years simply hasn’t been paying attention. There are an impressive 11 American men entered in the main draw of the men’s singles competition, led by defending champion and Rancho Santa Fe native Taylor Fritz.
12. Talking tennis with the pros… For 12 days from March 6th to 17th, keep your eye out for some exciting surprise player interviews at the Village Stage around 12:30pm. Grab a cold drink, a tasty meal and have a listen to what current and former players have to say about life on tour, including tournament director (and former World No. 2) Tommy Haas.
13. The junior tour touches down in #TennisParadise… Sure, current and former players are great – but how about the future of tennis? For the first time ever, North America’s best juniors will compete at the FILA Junior Championships, a “J1” level event (one level below the junior Grand Slams). Check it out in Tennis Paradise starting Monday, March 13th.
14. Medvedev not messing around… After falling out of the Top 10 earlier this year for the first time since June 2019, Daniil Medvedev has kicked his game into overdrive, winning an impressive 14 matches in a row including three titles in Rotterdam, Qatar and Dubai. Although the quirky Russian has never made it past the fourth round in Indian Wells, he’s coming in with enough form that we think this might be the year he bucks the trend.
15. Everyone loves live music… …especially when the band is made up of tennis players. This year’s live music lineup features 15 acts, including John McEnroe’s Johnny Smyth Band & doubles legends Bob & Mike Bryan’s Bryan Bros Band.
16. Grand Slam champions galore… There are 16 Grand Slam singles champions entered in the main draw this year. Yeah, you read that right – but can you name them all? 👀
17. Entering a New Era of tennis stars… The days of Serena Williams and Roger Federer may be over after they hung up their racquets late last year, but there’s a New Era of young talent to keep an eye on at this year’s BNP Paribas Open, the youngest of which is 17-year-old Linda Fruhvirtova who reached the fourth round of the Australian Open and is looking to make even greater strides (and look out, her 15-year-old sister Brenda is closing in on the Top 100 too!)
18. The youngest ever to win it… Doesn’t it feel like yesterday that 18-year-old wild card Bianca Andreescu became the youngest player ever to win Indian Wells? While injuries have derailed her consistency since that remarkable 2019 season, the now-22-year-old Canadian doesn’t seem far off her best these days. Are we due for another Bianca breakthrough in the desert?
19. Speaking of young… Coco Gauff turns 19 this year in Indian Wells. With her on-court composure and even greater maturity off the court, the well-spoken American prodigy is somehow still only a teenager – and is still getting better.
20. Back to where it all began… Remember when local hero Taylor Fritz, seeded No. 20, became the first American man since Andre Agassi to win the BNP Paribas Open? That was a year ago. Since then, Fritz has cemented his place at the top of the game, making deep runs at Wimbledon and the Nitto ATP Finals and collecting two more trophies along the way.
21. October champs looking to discover Spring magic… It’s hard to believe that just two years ago in 2021 this tournament was held in October! It was an unprecedented tournament that gave us two unexpected champions: Britain’s Cam Norrie and Spain’s Paula Badosa. They both pieced together respectable title defenses just a few months later in March 2022, but will be hoping to go a few steps further to get their hands back on the trophy that marked their biggest career triumphs.
22. It’s been a while for American women… While Fritz was able break the title drought for American men in the desert, the women are still looking for their first singles champ in 22 years when Serena Williams defeated Kim Clijsters in three sets to take the crown. Who do you think has the best shot at hometown glory this year?
23. Celebrating 23 years of the Indian Wells Tennis Garden… Tennis fans in the Coachella valley have been enjoying 23 amazing years of the sport at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, home to one of the world’s undisputed greatest tennis tournaments on the professional calendar, winning the 1000 Tournament of the Year award every single year since 2014.

Inside Missy Elliott’s first headlining tour, with Busta Rhymes, Ciara and Timbaland

LOS ANGELES (AP) — At a 24,000-square-foot studio near downtown Los Angeles, Missy Elliott , Busta Rhymes and Ciara are preparing to film the video announcement for a tour no one saw coming.
This summer, the trio — along with legendary producer Timbaland — will hit the road for Elliott’s first headlining arena tour, appropriately titled “Out of This World — The Missy Elliott Experience.”
“Listen, I didn’t realize I never had my own tour,” says a smiling Elliott, holding her tiny Yorkie, named Fendi, dressed in Gucci. “The last real tour that I went on — like, consistent days — was with Beyoncé and Alicia (Keys).”
That was in 2004.
Call it long overdue, but the timing is ideal. Over the last few years, Elliott — the forward-seeking artist — has been recognized for her talents as a musician, producer, songwriter and beyond .
In 2019, she became the first female rapper inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and received the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the MTV Video Music Awards. In 2021, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2022, her hometown of Portsmouth, Virginia, named a boulevard after her. Last year, she became the first female hip-hop artist inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
“Getting those accolades, I feel like I’ve finally made it,” Elliott says. “It feels amazing. I feel so blessed.”
“What we’re seeing now is kind of the rest of the world catching up,” says Mona Scott-Young, Elliott’s longtime manager and co-producer of the tour. “She’s always been ahead.”
In his green room, Busta Rhymes tells the AP that a tour had never come up in conversation across his decades of friendship and collaboration with Elliott. (He’s the intro and outro voice on her canonical debut album, 1997’s “Supa Dupa Fly.” They’ve long since been inseparable.)
“She doesn’t really tour and she doesn’t perform often. I just kind of understood my sister — the unspoken thing,” he says. “You knew that if she decided to do this, go to the place where she was actually ready to tour, the s--- was going to be crazy because one thing Missy never did was play with her production. And you saw that in everything she did, from her shows to her videos.”
He continued: “Missy will turn down $10 million to do a show. … She’s super in control of her destiny in that way, and without compromise, is what made her super incredibly great. You can’t do nothing but love her for that. She’s a true artist in the purest form of the word.”
And make no mistake, this isn’t a nostalgia tour.
“We are in the best spaces in our lives, individually and collectively, we’re at the most experienced spaces in our lives,” Rhymes says. “We’re no longer Daniel-san. We’re now all Mr. Miyagi senseis. You know what I’m saying? We’re all at our perfection levels of what we’ve been doing and building together as a collective family for 30 years.”
Elliott echoed the sentiment.
“The lineup feels something special,” says Elliott. “It’s family. It’s not put together.”
On set, the trio are styled by longtime collaborator June Ambrose — all-black looks, like if the Avengers were impeccably dressed and made up of R&B and hip-hop legends. They take photos as a group and individually.
After her solo photo shoot, Ciara starts to tear up.
“When I was a little girl, a little artist coming up, and you would ask me, ‘Who inspires you?’ I would infuse a combination of people: Michael Jackson and Prince and I would say Missy Elliott. She’s one of the best performers of all time,” she said.
“She means a lot to me as an artist but also as a person, as a sister. She’s always someone I can call for the truth, and she’s got to keep it real with me. She’s someone I can call and cry to if I need to.”
But ask her if there will be any on-stage collaborations — Elliott wrote and was featured on Ciara’s huge hit “1, 2 Step”; Ciara’s on Elliott’s “Lose Control” — she laughs. “Missy’s very particular. I don’t want to ruin any surprises,” she says. “I think from beginning to end, people will be on their feet. All of us have a lot of energetic records.”
“Somebody’s gonna die!” Rhymes jokes.
“And come back to life,” Ciara cuts in.
“Let’s keep it positive,” Rhymes laughs. “Someone is gonna die and come back to life.”
Later, Elliott offers a hint at what fans can expect from the show. “It’s an experience, it’s not just you seeing the artist on the stage,” she says. “I want people to travel to those moments, those (music) videos , I want you to relive it on stage. It is most definitely a lot of good, good stuff. Expensive stuff!”
The “Out of This World — The Missy Elliott Experience” kicks off in Vancouver, British Columbia, on July 4 at Rogers Arena and concludes in Rosemont, Illinois, at Allstate Arena on Aug. 22.
It will hit Seattle; Oakland, California; Los Angeles; Las Vegas; Denver; Austin, Texas; Houston; Fort Worth, Texas; Tampa, Florida; Sunrise, Florida; Atlanta; Baltimore; Hampton, Virginia; Philadelphia; Washington, D.C.; Newark, New Jersey; Boston; Brooklyn, New York; Detroit; Montreal and Toronto.
The tour is produced by Young’s Monami Entertainment and Live Nation. Presale begins tomorrow , and tickets will become available to the general public on Friday.

90s rock legends announce new farewell tour dates after frontman’s ‘serious’ injury
Share this with
A globally renowned rock group who dominated the charts in the 1990s have announced fresh dates for their farewell tour, after they were forced to postpone shows .
Aerosmith announced their Peace Out tour would be their last after over 50 years in music in May 2023, with gigs set to start last September.
The band, who have sold over 150 million records worldwide and are the best-selling American hard rock group of all time, have a back catalogue boasting songs including Walk this Way, Love in an Elevator, Dream On and Young Lust.
However, they were then forced to postpone their 2023 dates after their frontman Steven Tyler sustained a ‘serious’ injury – but now they will resume shows this September instead.
The 76-year-old damaged his vocal cords, which led to ‘bleeding’, just days into their world tour.
Aerosmith initially pushed back six gigs as Tyler revealed he was ‘heartbroken’ to have been given ‘strict doctor’s orders not to sing for the next 30 days’.
However, the I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing stars later had to make the decision to suspend all of their show dates after it became apparent Tyler had fractured his larynx.
‘To our fans: Unfortunately, Steven’s vocal injury is more serious than initially thought. His doctor has confirmed that in addition to the damage to his vocal cords, he fractured his larynx which requires ongoing care,’ a statement Aerosmith released at the time on Instagram read.
‘He is receiving the best medical treatment available to ensure his recovery is swift, but given the nature of a fracture, he is being told patience is essential.
‘As a result, all the currently scheduled PEACE OUT shows must be postponed to sometime in 2024, with new dates to be announced as soon as we know more.’
Tyler added in a separate message: ‘I am heartbroken to not be out there with Aerosmith, my brothers and the incredible Black Crowes, rocking with the best fans in the world. I promise we will be back as soon as we can!’
Now, those dates have been confirmed as kicking off again on September 20 in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and travelling extensively throughout the United Sates and Canada until February 26, when they play Buffalo, New York.
‘We’re thrilled to announce new dates for our 2024 PEACE OUT Tour with special guests @theblackcrowes!’, Aerosmith announced on X, adding: ‘All previously purchased tickets will be honoured for the rescheduled shows – you’ll receive more info via email.

Aerosmith was formed in late 1970 and comprises of Tyler, lead guitarist Joe Perry, bass player Tom Hamilton, drummer Joey Kramer and guitar player Brad Whitford.
Kramer, however, is not participating in the world tour with the band announcing he is ‘focus[ing] his full attention on his family and health’.
Touring member Buck Johnson will be participating as well.
In February, a lawsuit filed against singer Tyler by a woman accusing him of sexually assaulting her twice in one day when she was 17 was dismissed.
US District Judge Lewis Kaplan stated that former child model Jeanne Bellino had waited too long to sue the 75-year-old rock star, as reported by Reuters.
The judge said Bellino did not qualify for a two-year window to pursue claims that would otherwise extend beyond statutes of limitations, because she did not allege that Tyler’s conduct posed a ‘serious risk of physical injury’.
Rocker Tyler had previously ‘vehemently’ denied her allegations.
Tyler has also defended against a lawsuit in Los Angeles, where another woman, Julia Misley, claimed he sexually assaulted her in 1973 when she was 16 and he was 25.
He has denied the claims and insisted that Julia Misley, formerly known as Julia Holcomb, consented to their relationship.

Wnba draft 2024: date, time, schedule, top players, draft order, location.
- Kurt Helin ,
If Caitlin Clark’s popularity — and her epic clashes with players such as Angel Reece and Kamilla Cardoso — is women’s basketball’s “Bird vs. Magic” moment, is the WNBA ready to capitalize?
The answer to that question starts Monday night when the WNBA Draft takes place in Brooklyn. There’s not much mystery about when Clark will be selected, but the drama only begins there. Here’s a primer on everything you need to know about the 2024 WNBA Draft.
Where is the 2024 WNBA Draft?
The highly anticipated WNBA Draft begins at 7:30 p.m. ET on Monday, April 15. It will take place at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in Brooklyn, New York, and this will be the first time fans will be in live attendance for the WNBA Draft.
How can I watch the WNBA Draft 2024?
ESPN will broadcast the 2024 WNBA Draft, with a preview half-hour show starting at 7 p.m. ET. The WNBA can be streamed on ESPN+.
Which team has the No. 1 pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft?
For the second year in a row, the Indiana Fever have the first overall pick after winning the WNBA Draft Lottery. A year ago they selected South Carolina’s Aliyah Boston, who went on to be the 2023 WNBA Rookie of the Year.
Which team is Caitlin Clark going to?
This is a no-brainer — Clark will go No. 1 overall to the Indiana Fever.
It is an easy call for the Fever for two reasons: 1) Clark’s outside game, paired with last year’s No. 1 pick Aliyah Boston inside, gives Indiana the foundation of a potential title contender in a few years; 2) What Clark will mean in terms of ticket sales, and sponsorship sales with the franchise, not to mention jersey sales and everything else, makes this an easy call from a business perspective. Already, most of the Fever’s games next season will be on national television.
How much will Caitlin Clark make in WNBA?
As the No. 1 pick, Clark will make a salary of $76,535. Yes, that’s it. She will make far, far more than that in sponsorship and endorsement deals — projections of her final year at Iowa had her making more than $3 million in name and licensing deals, and almost all of that will follow her to the WNBA. That said, the money she will generate for the Indiana Fever and the WNBA in jersey sales alone will be in the millions.
If that salary number seems shockingly low, well, it is. The most any player will make in the WNBA this season is $241,984 (Arike Ogunbowale, Kahleah Copper, Jewell Loyd), and the average player will make around $150,000 next season. This is why many WNBA players also play overseas for a second team during the offseason, or find a second job in broadcast media or another basketball-related position.
What is the WNBA Draft order?
The WNBA Draft has three rounds. This is the order for the first round — notice the Los Angeles Sparks draft second and fourth.
First Round
1. Indiana Fever 2. Los Angeles Sparks 3. Chicago Sky (from Phoenix) 4. Los Angeles Sparks (from Seattle) 5. Dallas Wings (from Chicago) 6. Washington Mystics 7. Minnesota Lynx 8. Chicago Sky (from Atlanta, via Los Angeles) 9. Dallas Wings 10. Connecticut Sun 11. New York Liberty 12. Atlanta Dream (from Las Vegas, via Los Angeles)
Who are some of the players who will be drafted?
Caitlin clark, 6'0" point guard, iowa.
Clark has become a household name and sports superstar, and she enters the WNBA already part of the college hoop GOAT conversation — she scored more points than any other player, male or female, in college basketball history. Her shooting range draws Curry comparisons, as does the way her gravity as a player warps defenses. She is a star on and off the court and the biggest question is can the WNBA take advantage of this moment?
Cameron Brink, 6'4" power forward, Stanford
Brink is a defensive force inside, leading the NCAA with 3.74 blocked shots per game, plus she has a versatile offensive game, although she needs to show that can transfer to the WNBA. Is she ready for the step up in physicality in the WNBA? The bet is yes, but Brink must prove she can be a star at the next level. With Nneka Ogwumike gone to Seattle and Los Angeles needing an inside presence and star, Brink could be the pick at No. 2.
Kamilla Cardoso, 6'7" center, South Carolina
A lot of casual fans who tuned into the NCAA title game expecting a Caitlin Clark coronation found out Cardoso is for real. Her size and strength inside will translate to the next level, and she has quick feet and runs the floor well. She proved in college she can play next to another big, as well, which will help in the WNBA. She is a force in the paint on both ends of the court.
Angel Reese, 6-3 forward, LSU
What sometimes gets lost in the hype around Reese — and LSU’s championship win over Iowa and Clark a year ago — is that she just plays hard. She’s got a high motor, and she’s going to need that, and her athleticism and explosive leaping ability, to transition to the WNBA game. Reese is not much of a shooter, but that part of her game, along with her scoring efficiency overall, will need to improve in the WNBA.
What’s the big secret of the WNBA Draft?
That most of the players selected will not make the league. Caitlin Clark, Kamilla Cardoso and the others at the very top are fine, but the majority of drafted players will not make a roster.
Last season, only eight of the 36 players taken in the draft were on opening day rosters, and 15 of them total played in a WNBA game last season. The WNBA is the hardest league to make because the rosters are only 12 players deep and a lot of teams only carry 11 to stay under the league’s strict salary cap (for comparison, NBA teams have 15 roster spots plus three two-way players allowed for development). Coaches and front offices trying to win lean on veterans to round out the roster, forcing most of the drafted players to go overseas to develop (there is no G-League like the NBA has).
