- SEC teams shuffle in Week 6 baseball Power 10
As March conference play amps up, here are my latest Power 10 baseball picks.
1. Arkansas (Previous: 1)
My top two remain the same. The Razorbacks won the series over Auburn to move to 19-3. Hagen Smith posted yet another stellar performance; he fanned 12 over six scoreless innings to lead the Razorbacks to a 1-0 shutout win.
2. Oregon State (2)
The Beavers looked dominant with a sweep over Washington this weekend, scoring 31 runs over the series and allowing just three.
3. Clemson (4)
At No. 3, Clemson moves up at showing out with a sweep over previously unbeaten Florida State. If you didn't catch the series, it was a good one. Clemson trailed 8-1 in the bottom of the ninth on Saturday before scoring eight runs, including a Blake Wright grand slam, to walk it off and win the series. Then on Sunday, they again trailed 11-2 before scoring five in the sixth inning and six runs in the seventh. This time, Wright had a go-ahead grand slam and the Tigers won it 14-12. Crazy series for Wright.
4. Texas A&M (8)
I put Texas A&M at No. 4 after the Aggies won a big series over Mississippi State. Justin Lamkin struck out a career-high 12 batters on Sunday for the series win.
5. Tennessee (9)
Tennessee also slides up after picking up a big SEC win — it split the series with Ole Miss before finishing the rubber game with 13 hits and five homers for a run-rule win on Sunday.
6. Virginia (7)
The Cavaliers swept Putt over the weekend to improve to 20-4.
7. Vanderbilt (3)
Vandy was swept by South Carolina, so it plummeted out of the three-spot down to 7. The Commodores have good wins and a sweep over Auburn so they stay in the top 10 for now.
8. Florida (NR)
Most publications have Florida above Virginia and Vandy, but I really struggle with where to place the Gator. They've now won two SEC series but continue to drop mid-weeks and now have nine losses on the season. I ended up putting Florida at No. 8 with the nine losses, but just above LSU who they beat last weekend in 2-of-3 at No. 9.
LSU lost its second straight SEC series at the hands of the Florida Gators, so they had to drop a lot, too.
10. Dallas Baptist (NR)
And at 10, Dallas Baptist makes a grand appearance. It is now 19-4 with two big ranked wins including a big win over Oklahoma last week.

Sec baseball power rankings: chaos ensuing throughout the league, share this article.
The second week of conference play has officially passed and we head into the third. Yet, the fun is still just beginning. With two series done, the chaos is only growing as teams continue to try and prove themselves to committee members who put out the rankings each week.
With lots of pure talent in this league, it is no surprise that everyone is beating each other up to start the SEC slate. Challenges arise often, and teams have to figure out how to overcome them.
Arkansas remains as hot as it has been despite not sweeping its series last weekend. Hagen Smith has continued to be a force in this league, quickly submitting his name in national award conversations.
What is happening to the defending national champions in LSU? These past two weekends have given the Tigers a tough time, giving them a losing record in the conference so far. When will they make their big stride at success?
As we head towards yet another fun weekend of baseball, here is how the conference power rankings look currently:
14. Missouri
Nathan Papes/Springfield News-Leader / USA TODAY NETWORK
Record: 10-15
Last week: No. 14
Despite still being in the bottom position of these rankings, Missouri still might finally have something to smile about. The Tigers won their first game in the conference slate last weekend in a game two pitcher’s duel with Kentucky. The Missouri pitching staff was able to get some much needed rest that day, only using two pitchers in the 2-1 victory. Javyn Pimental and Bryce Mayer combined for nine strikeouts in the victory while only giving up five hits.
The Tigers cannot smile back on the win for long though as they travel up to Nashville to take on a hot Vanderbilt team this weekend. Their competitiveness that they showed in the Kentucky series needs to show up in order to have any success against Tim Corbin’s squad.

Record: 16-8
Last week: No. 13
Auburn was also able to celebrate its first SEC win last weekend. After returning to Plainsman Park from a disappointing trip in Nashville, the Tigers took top-ranked Arkansas to the wire in every single game the two teams played. Despite coming out on the losing end in the first two contests, Auburn bested the Razorbacks in the finale 8-6. Cooper McMurray andc Ike Irish both hit home runs late to secure the win.
The Tigers make a trip to College Station this week to take on a tough Texas A&M squad. Auburn is making the visit with the hopes of riding the good momentum it got in the Arkansas finale. Butch Thompson’s squad is 15-17 historically against the Aggies. An offensive masterclass will need to be in the works this weekend if the Tigers want to turn that record in their favor.
12. Ole Miss
Mandatory Credit: Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports
Record: 18-8
Last week: No. 11
After a fantastic start to open up SEC play, the Ole Miss Rebels got pushed back a long way when they took on Tennessee. The Rebels dropped this series but did not get swept. Each of their losses, though, came by way of mercy-rule, with both games ending in the 7th inning. The pitching was a major weakness for Ole Miss last weekend, something it will look to improve on in the coming series.
That matchup will be back in Oxford as it welcomes a fairly hot Kentucky team to town. Both Andrew Fischer and Ethan Groff need to come alive like they did in the lone victory over the Volunteers. That combined with improved pitching gives the Rebels a fair chance at putting up a nice fight.
11. Mississippi State
Saul Young/News Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK
Last week: No. 10
Mississippi State’s competitiveness is continuing to gradually get better, but there are times when it does not produce the desired results. When you play in the SEC, every game is tough, which was evident last week when the Bulldogs dropped their series to Texas A&M. They won the middle game 5-1, but gave up just six runs in each of their losses. While that may not seem like a positive to take away, Mississippi State gave itself a fighting chance in every contest.
It will need to continue that battle in its trek to Florida this weekend to take on the Gators, a team that has proven to be both hot and cold as of late. Dakota Jordan will need to continue to be the key leader and show his dynamic skill set. If the Bulldogs can keep Jac Caglianone and others quiet, the boys from Starkville will have a chance to win this series in Gainesville.
10. Georgia
[Cyndi Chambers/ Gainesville Sun] 2023
Record: 21-4
Last week: No. 12
The Bulldogs responded to their 0-3 conference start in a huge way last weekend. Georgia hosted the red hot Alabama Crimson Tide and came away with a sweep of its own, conquering the boys from Tuscaloosa with a magnificent performance. The Bulldog bats constantly pushed for more in this series, as the Crimson Tide never scored more than five runs in any of the games.
Georgia looks to continue its winning ways and rising stock when it travels to Tennessee to take on Tony Vitello’s squad. Charlie Condon is having a career year, and needs to continue doing so against the Volunteers this weekend. He will have to push his teammates to perform well in their own ways, to match the power that Tennessee brings on the mound.

Gary CosbyJr.-Tuscaloosa News / USA TODAY NETWORK
Record: 19-6
Last week: No. 5
This is where the chaos really starts to show in the power rankings. Alabama was just at the No. 5 position in last week’s standings, but now drop to No. 9 after getting swept by the Georgia Bulldogs. It seemed as if five runs was the barrier that the Crimson Tide could not get past, as they scored that many in all three games. While Ian Petrutz and Kade Snell each had three hits in the finale, Alabama could not capitalize on the great performance.
The Tide are set to take on South Carolina in Tuscaloosa this weekend. It is a great opportunity for Rob Vaughn’s squad to get back on the right track, but doing that will be tough against a strong Gamecock offense that contributed to a series sweep of Vanderbilt last week. The pitching will need to be on point in this three-game set.
For more Alabama baseball news, visit Roll Tide Wire .
8. Kentucky
Sam Upshaw Jr./Courier Journal / USA TODAY NETWORK
Last week: No. 8
Kentucky is sitting at the top of the East division right now in the SEC, being the only other team in the league with just one loss through two conference series. That loss, unfortunately, came at the hands of a poor-performing Missouri team, which is the main reason for the Wildcats staying in their spot in these power rankings. With competitive games in each of those final two matchups during the series, Kentucky needs to step it up and not play at a lower level than its opponents.
That opponent this weekend is the Ole Miss Rebels, who are dangerous despite an interesting start to the year. Emilien Pitre needs to get back going, while Nick Lopez needs to continue his performance that he ended the last series with. Going into Oxford is no easy task, so the Wildcats need to start strong in order to find wins.
Visit UK Wildcats Wire for more news on the Kentucky Wildcats.
7. Vanderbilt
Andrew Nelles / The Tennessean / USA TODAY NETWORK
Record: 20-6
Last week: No. 4
After a very impressive start in its conference opening series, Vanderbilt found itself with the exact opposite results last weekend when it got swept by South Carolina in Columbia. The offense never stepped on the gas like it normally does for the Commodores, as they never scored more than four runs in any given game. The Gamecocks, meanwhile scored at least eight in each contest, leaving no doubt in the end.
Tim Corbin’s squad looks to bounce back when they host the Missouri Tigers this weekend. It should be a fairly easy weekend for Vanderbilt, as long as it does not let Missouri stay in the game longer than it needs to. The Tigers are coming in looking to add more conference wins to their resume, so the Commodores should not overlook this series.
[Doug Engle/Gainesville Sun]
Record: 14-10
Last week: No. 9
The Florida Gators are continuing to push higher and higher in the power rankings. Even with a questionable 14-10 record, the Gators made great work of LSU last weekend, taking the series after losing game one. In the rubber match, six home runs from Florida helped it to secure a 12-2 victory in eight innings. Jac Caglianone not only pitched, but hit one of those long balls as well in what was a very impressive performance.
The Gators are set to host Mississippi State this weekend. They need to keep their conference winning ways going in order to improve their stock even farther. The SEC victories will help to ease their rocky non-conference performance. If the Florida pitching staff can perform like it did in the LSU series, it should have luck against a feisty Bulldog squad.
For more Florida baseball news, visit Gators Wire .
5. Tennessee
Caitie McMekin/News Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK
Record: 22-4
Last week: No. 6
Tennessee’s offense is looking to stay hot this week after it propelled the Volunteers to a series win over Ole Miss last weekend. Tony Vitello’s squad dropped 15 runs in both wins over the Rebels. Billy Amick had a noticeable series finale when he racked up five RBIs in a 15-4 win.
That offensive explosion needs to continue this weekend when Tennessee hosts a Georgia Bulldog team that is coming in with a lot of momentum. The big story is the matchup of the Volunteer pitching staff trying to hold down Charlie Condon, who is arguably the best hitter in the country right now. If they can do that, they stand a good chance at coming away from this series victorious.
Visit Vols Wire for more news on Tennessee baseball.
Last week: No. 3
What is happening in Baton Rouge with the Tigers in Baton Rouge? While they have not fallen much, they are continuing to slowly drop with a 2-4 record in the SEC through two series. Their latest games came against a Florida team who fought back to win the series after giving LSU the first contest. The pitching staff got beat down in that series finale when it allowed 12 runs on the board.
The Tigers have a huge chance to make their mark, though, as they travel up to Fayetteville to face the Arkansas Razorbacks. With Hagen Smith being the man on the hill for Arkansas in game one, the LSU bats must get going early against him, otherwise they will not find much luck. If they can do some damage, they can build some great momentum for the weekend.
For more LSU baseball coverage, check out LSU Tigers Wire .
3. South Carolina
Record: 20-5
Last week: No. 7
South Carolina is on the big rise again in this week’s rankings after sweeping the Vanderbilt Commodores and building some huge momentum for this week. The finale in that series featured a 10-2 victory in which Kennedy Jones and Dylan Brewer each hit a home run to help the Gamecocks in their efforts.
With South Carolina currently riding on top of the world, they need to continue that great focus when it travels to face Alabama this week in Tuscaloosa. The Gamecocks need to stay sharp as the Crimson Tide is angry following going 0-3 in last week’s series. Brewer will have to come up big once again in this series, along with all of the other Carolina bats against this powerful Alabama offense.
2. Texas A&M
Mandatory Credit: Brett Patzke-USA TODAY Sports
Record: 22-3
Last week: No. 2
The Aggies are steadily getting back on track while settling into the SEC schedule. After losing its first conference series, Texas A&M took a series win last week over Mississippi State when the offense did not look too sharp. The pitching was dominant in the two wins that the Aggies had, something that has proven to be a positive aspect of their game thus far.
That pitching looks to remain strong when Texas A&M hosts Auburn this weekend. The Aggies have a great opportunity to string some wins together against a Tiger squad that has not had much luck in the conference slate to this point. That being said, Auburn is coming off of a big SEC series finale win last weekend over Arkansas, so the Aggies need to push down the positive Tiger momentum early and make their mark.
For more Texas A&M news, visit Aggies Wire .
1. Arkansas
Record: 20-3
Last week: No. 1
The Arkansas Razorbacks are still riding high at the top of the rankings this week after a series win over the Auburn Tigers. That series, though, did not come without its struggles. All three of the games were decided by two runs or less. Game one was a major fight, as the Razorbacks won 1-0. Aloy Wehiwa drove in the only run in that game with a solo home run in the first inning. The pitching did its job the rest of the way to secure a victory.
Despite losing the series finale, Arkansas is still set up for success. That will need to be evident in a massive series with LSU this weekend at home. While the Tigers have been a bit cold in SEC play, they can strike for big plays at any moment. Hagen Smith is starting game one and will have to have another phenomenal performance in order to help his team pull out an early victory.

Lsu baseball falls in on3's national power rankings after another series loss, share this article.
The LSU baseball team got back on track on Tuesday night with a midweek win over Southeastern Louisiana , but it will take more than that to reverse its recent misfortunes.
The Tigers have started SEC play by dropping back-to-back series, first at Mississippi State and then against Florida at Alex Box Stadium last weekend. LSU is badly in need of a series win, and things don’t get any easier as coach Jay Johnson’s team hits the road again to face an Arkansas team that ranks No. 1 in all polls.
A win in Fayetteville would certainly move the Tigers up the rankings, but for now, they’re falling two spots to No. 6 in On3’s national power rankings from Jonathan Wagner .
LSU is looking to bounce back after losing its first two weekends of SEC play. The defending national champions have now dropped two out of three against Mississippi State and Florida, and the road isn’t getting any easier. LSU is in danger of dropping further in our college baseball power rankings, as they face off against Arkansas, Vanderbilt and Tennessee over the next three weekends.
LSU begins its weekend slate against the Razorbacks with a 6 p.m. CT game on Thursday night that will be televised on ESPN2 .

How to watch MLB’s Opening Day for free—and without cable
More snow is on the way to California and the Pacific Northwest, but the boys of summer aren’t going to wait any longer.
It’s opening day for Major League Baseball—and all 30 teams will be on the field. Last year saw some big changes to the rules of MLB games, with pitch timers, a limit on the number of pick-off attempts and bigger bases. Now that fans and players have gotten used to that, the season should be a bit less disruptive.
The Texas Rangers are defending their 2023 World Series win, but they’re going to have some stiff competition this year. ESPN, for example, is predicting the Atlanta Braves will be unbeatable this year in the Fall Classic.
That’s an October problem, though. For now, we sit back and enjoy the season. While the best way to experience Opening Day is sitting with a beer and a hot dog in the stands, that’s not practical for many people. There are, however, plenty of other ways to watch.
When does Major League Baseball begin its 2024 season?
Opening day is Thursday, March 28. The first pitches will take place at 1:10 p.m. ET, when the Milwaukee Brewers face the New York Mets.
What’s the schedule for MLB opening day?
Here’s who’s playing as well as when and where you can watch. (The home team is listed second and note that all games will not be broadcast):
Milwaukee Brewers vs. New York Mets , 1:10 p.m. ET on Bally Sports Wisconsin and SportsNet New York
Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies , 3:05 p.m. ET on Bally Sports South
California Angels vs. Baltimore Orioles , 3:05 p.m. ET on Mid-Atlantic Sports Network and Fox Sports West
San Francisco Giants vs. San Diego Padres , 4:10 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Bay Area
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Tampa Bay Rays , 4:10 p.m. ET on Bally Sports Sun
New York Yankees vs. Houston Astros , 4:10 p.m. ET on YES Network and AT&T SportsNet Southwest
Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Florida Marlins , 4:10 p.m. ET on Bally Sports Florida and AT&T SportsNet Pittsburgh
Minnesota Twins v. Kansas City Royals , 4:10 p.m. ET on Bally Sports North
Detroit Tigers vs. Chicago White Socks , 4:10 p.m. ET on Bally Sports Detroit and NBC Sports Chicago
Washington Nationals vs. Cincinnati Reds , 4:10 p.m. ET on NBC, Bally Sports Ohio and Mid-Atlantic Sports Network
St. Louis Cardinals vs. Los Angeles Dodgers , 4:10 p.m. ET on Bally Sports Midwest, Spectrum SportsNet
Chicago Cubs vs. Texas Rangers , 7:35 p.m. ET on ESPN
Cleveland Guardians vs. Oakland Athletics , 10:07 p.m. ET on Bally Sports Great Lakes and NBC Sports California
Colorado Rockies vs. Arizona Diamondbacks , 10:10 p.m. ET on MLB Extra Innings
Boston Red Sox vs. Seattle Mariners , 10:10 p.m. ET on NESN and Root Sports Northwest
Is this really Opening Day for the MLB?
Well, kind of. The Dodgers and Padres faced off in Seoul, South Korea on March 20 and 21. And both of those games do count toward regular season results. The Seoul Series, though, was an opportunity for MLB to expand its fan base into a new country. And an early overseas start could become a regular annual event for the league in years to come.
Can I watch MLB Opening Day games for free?
A lot of that depends on where you live. Most Opening Day games are going to be carried by regional sports networks, instead of broadcast ones. ESPN will broadcast one game this evening, but your best bet to watch for free is via a streaming service with a free trial.
What’s the best way to watch MLB Opening Day games online?
The league’s official streaming service is the best way to catch the most Opening Day action. MLB.tv offers a seven-day free trial, after which you’ll pay $30 per month or $150 for the season.
Are there other options to watch MLB games online?
Plenty of them!
This sports-focused cord-cutting service carries broadcast networks in most markets. There’s a seven-day free trial, followed by monthly charges of $75 and up, depending on the channels you choose.
The streaming service will kick off Friday Night Baseball on March 29 this year, with the New York Yankees facing the Houston Astros and the St. Louis Cardinals visiting the Los Angeles Dodgers. Double headers will run over the next 26 weeks. There’s a seven-day free trial, after which you’ll pay $4.99 per month.
Disney’s bundle of Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ no longer has a free trial, so you’ll have to pay $15 per month for all three combined (or $25 per month for no ads on Hulu).
Including Live TV in the bundle bumps the price to $77 per month ($90 with no ads).
Hulu with Live TV
The free trial on this service is no longer offered. It will now cost you $77 per month.
After up to a two-week trial , you can expect monthly charges of $73.
Dish Network’s Sling lower-tiered “Orange” plan will run you $40 per month. Adding the more comprehensive “Blue” plan bumps the cost to $55 per month. The seven-day free trial has disappeared, but the cord-cutting service is offering 50% off of the first month’s bill.
DirecTV Stream

Preview, how to watch Texas Tech baseball at UCF
The Texas Tech baseball team and Central Florida are among five teams tied for seventh place in the Big 12 with 4-5 conference records. On paper, there's nothing special about their three-game series this week in Orlando.
Winning the series, though, would be important for the Red Raiders. UCF is No. 6 in the RPI ranking that carries weight in NCAA tournament consideration.
"It's a really good opportunity for us," Tech coach Tim Tadlock said. "They do have the (sixth) RPI in the country. That's something that, since they're in the league, that's a good deal for us."
Tech (18-7) and UCF (16-6) square off at 6:30 p.m. CDT Thursday, 5 p.m. CDT Friday and noon Saturday. The two teams are fourth and sixth, respectively, in this week's Big 12 power rankings . Thursday's series opener was moved back 90 minutes to accommodate Tech travel delays.
The Knights received votes in this week's USA TODAY Sports Top 25 coaches poll . Their resumé includes five non-conference victories over three of last year's NCAA tournament teams — No. 6 Florida, Miami and Samford. Since getting swept in its first Big 12 series at Oklahoma, UCF has taken two of three from both Oklahoma State and Kansas.

Texas Tech started Big 12 play going 2-4 against Texas and Baylor, then recovered to win the last two in last week's three-game set with Brigham Young.
The Red Raiders lead the conference in batting average and runs scored. The Knights have the conference's fifth-best team earned-run average and are second in fielding.

Texas A&M will play host to an Auburn squad that is 1-5 to begin conference play. 1. Arkansas Razorbacks (19-3, 5-1) Chris Jones-USA TODAY Sports. Arkansas remains at No. 1 in this week's SEC baseball power rankings. The Razorbacks went on the road and nearly picked up a three-game sweep over Auburn.
Last week: No. 1. The Arkansas Razorbacks are still riding high at the top of the rankings this week after a series win over the Auburn Tigers. That series, though, did not come without its struggles. All three of the games were decided by two runs or less. Game one was a major fight, as the Razorbacks won 1-0.
A win in Fayetteville would certainly move the Tigers up the rankings, but for now, they're falling two spots to No. 6 in On3's national power rankings from Jonathan Wagner.
