Coldplay announces 2024 European tour dates

Band confirms third consecutive European summer of stadium shows

Following the sellout success of Coldplay’s summer 2023 European stadium run – which culminated last night with a spectacular fourth Amsterdam show – the band has announced a third run of European dates for June, July and August 2024, as part of their record-breaking Music Of The Spheres World Tour .

The dates include the band’s first ever shows in Greece, Romania and Finland, as well as their first show in Rome since 2003 and first visit to Budapest since 2008.

Fans can register for first access to tickets in the presale, which begins for all shows on Tuesday, July 25th at Coldplay.com .

The presale will start at 9 am local time in Athens, Bucharest, Budapest, Lyon, Rome and Helsinki, and at 10 am local time in Dusseldorf, Munich, Vienna and Dublin. The general sale begins at 10 am local time for all cities on Friday, July 28th.

Since the first Music Of The Spheres World Tour date in March 2022, Coldplay has sold more than 7.5 million tickets – the most for any tour over the last two years. The tour has also received rave reviews from fans and critics alike, picking up accolades including Favorite Touring Artist at the 2022 AMAs and Tour of The Year at the 2023 iHeartRadio Awards.

Last month, a report by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology revealed that Coldplay’s current tour has so far produced 47% less CO2e emissions than their previous stadium tour in 2016/17 (on a show-by-show comparison), and that five million trees have already been planted around the world (one for each concert goer so far).

Coldplay has also confirmed they will make a limited number of Infinity Tickets available for the shows at a later date. Infinity Tickets are released for every Coldplay show to make the Music Of The Spheres World Tour accessible to fans for an affordable price. They will cost the equivalent of €20 per ticket. They are restricted to a maximum of two tickets per purchaser, and must be bought in pairs which will be located next to each other.

DHL is the Official Logistics Partner of the Music Of The Spheres World Tour, supporting the band in their mission to cut the tour’s direct emissions by 50%.

Glastonbury 2024 lineup: Dua Lipa, Sza and Coldplay revealed to headline

Glastonbury Festival organisers have finally unveiled their headliners for 2024 , after months of rumours and speculation.

Emily Eavis and her team announced on Thursday (14 March) that Dua Lipa , SZA and Coldplay would headline the Pyramid Stage at Worthy Farm in June, while country-pop queen Shania Twain will take the coveted Legends’ Slot.

While many ticketowners are expressing excitement about the forthcoming sold-out festival , there is an air of disappointment due to the fact that many rumoured high-profile musicians – including Madonna, Stevie Wonder and Bruce Springsteen – are absent from the line-up.

However, some of The Independent’s team believe that this is a premature reaction to what could be some of the greatest pop performances Glastonbury has ever seen.

Dua Lipa , SZA and Shania Twain will take centre stage at Glastonbury Festival this June in a female-heavy line-up following last year’s criticism of its all-male headline acts.

Coldplay will also continue their long-running Worthy Farm love affair with the band set to headline again – making it their fifth time appearing on the Pyramid stage in just 22 years.

Fresh from the announcement of her new album, Dua Lipa will take to the stage on Friday, followed by Coldplay and SZA, with Shania Twain playing the coveted Legends slot on the Sunday.

The line-up poster also reveals which acts will be playing on what stage, with LCD Soundsystem, Little Simz, Cyndi Lauper and Janelle Monae all set to play the Pyramid for afternoon and evening slots.

Burna Boy, PJ Harvey, Michael Kiwanuka and Paloma Faith will also be playing on the main stage.

In an effort “to raise emergency funds to support people affected by conflict”, this year’s music festival will be giving away 20 pairs of tickets to the lucky winners of the lottery.

Corinne Bailey Rae celebrates her return to Glastonbury

British singer Corinne Bailey Rae, best known for her 2006 hit “Put Your Records On”, is celebrating her return to Worthy Farm.

The 45-year-old artist will perform at the West Holts Stage.

Rae has performed at Glastonbury in 2007, 2010 and 2017.

Coldplay breaks Glastonbury record

Coldplay is set to break a Glastonbury record when they return to the Pyramid stage this summer. The four-piece rock band will become the first act to headline the Worthy Farm event five times.

The “Viva La Vida” group made their Glastonbury debut in 2002, followed by performances in 2005, 2011 and 2016.

This year, their scheduled appearance will come ahead of the release of their forthcoming – and potentially final – album, out next year. The band’s frontman Chris Martin has previously stated that they would stop making new music in 2025.

“Well I know I can tell you: our last proper record will come out in 2025 and after that I think we will only tour,” the singer told Jo Whiley in a 2021 interview. “I feel like because I know that challenge is finite, making this music doesn’t feel difficult, it feels like, ‘This is what we’re supposed to be doing’.”

“Houdini” singer Dua Lipa has celebrated her headliner slot.

“FRIDAY NIGHT PYRAMID STAGE HEADLINE!!!! I have dreamt of this moment all my life,” she wrote on X/Twitter.

Coldplay to headline Glastonbury for the fifth time

Glastonbury Festival has announced the bulk of its 2024 lineup: headliners SZA , Coldplay , and Dua Lipa will make their way to Somerset, giving Coldplay a record-setting fifth slot atop the bill. Shania Twain will play the Sunday afternoon “legends” slot, with Idles, Disclosure, and the National headlining the Other Stage. Elsewhere on the bill, LCD Soundsystem, PJ Harvey, Little Simz, Burna Boy, Cyndi Lauper, Janelle Monáe, and Michael Kiwanuka are among the Pyramid Stage performers. Dua Lipa , Coldplay and SZA are among the headliners at this year’s Glastonbury music festival.

The iconic British festival returns to Somerset’s Worthy Farm from June 26-30.

Dua Lipa makes her Pyramid Stage debut as the festival’s Friday night headliner, on a bill also featuring Glastonbury veterans LCD Soundsystem and PJ Harvey.

The Sunday night headliner is multiple Grammy and Brits-winning hip-hop/R&B act SZA making her Glastonbury debut. She will follow sets from Afrobeats star Burna Boy and Janelle Monáe. Also featured on Sunday is Shania Twain, who will make her first trip to Worthy Farm.

How Taylor Swift gave Singapore’s economy a massive boost

SINGAPORE — Singapore is set to earn big money and a big reputation from hosting global pop sensation Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, analysts are calculating.

Swift’s six sold-out concerts, which run from March 2 to 9, are expected to bring in an estimated $260 million to $375 million in tourism receipts, Erica Tay, Maybank director of macro research, told The Washington Post.

The city-state is the latest beneficiary of “ Swiftonomics ,” the phenomenon named for the economic boost experienced by destinations of the record-breaking tour, which has surpassed $1 billion in global sales. Singapore’s GDP is likely to expand by 2.9 percent in the first quarter of the year — its highest in six quarters — Bloomberg News reported Friday , with economists raising predictions for annual growth from 2.3 percent to 2.5 percent.

With Singapore the only Southeast Asian stop on the tour — something that caused no end of grumbling from its neighbors — fans from China to Malaysia have flocked to the city-state. Japan is the only other East Asian destination. Arrival passenger traffic between March 1 and 7 alone increased by more than 20 percent compared to the same period last year, Changi Airport told The Post .

Businesses of all sizes have caught the cruel summer fever, with enterprises ranging from big brands to small bead shops and photo studios cashing in on the pop star’s visit.

Marina Bay Sands, a luxury destination and a tour sponsor, set up a Swift-focused light show and mall trail with installations themed for each of the artist’s albums. Packages ranging from $7,500 to $35,000 were sold out, with 90 percent of the guests coming from overseas, “an indication of the strong tourism appeal of the Eras Tour,” said Chief Marketing Officer Irene Lin.

Travel company Klook tracked a 50 percent increase in bookings for its Singapore Pass, which offers access to the city’s most famous attractions. “Based on our data … a tourist attending a concert or event can hit an incremental spending of five times the face ticket value,” said Sarah Wan, Klook general manager for Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. A traveler can spend an additional $800 on local experiences, she added.

However, Singapore’s success may have stirred some bad blood among neighbors who wanted their own taste of Swiftonomics. Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin claimed Singapore paid up to $3 million per show to make it the only stop in Southeast Asia, prompting leaders in Indonesia and the Philippines to also raise complaints.

Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong defended the deal this week, saying that he does not see the arrangement as “being unfriendly” to its neighbors. Singapore has kept mum on what the government paid to bring Swift to the city-state, but news outlet CNA estimates that it is likely to have cost between $2 and $3 million for all six shows.

Can Seng Ooi, a professor at the University of Tasmania who has studied Singapore’s tourism agenda, said the Eras Tour bid is “part of a grand plan” to fashion the city-state as a regional arts and culture destination that dates to 1989 — a year of no small significance for Swifties, as it’s the singer’s birth year and the title of her fifth studio album. That year, its arts council released a report outlining strategies for the city’s cultural thrust — a long view that has paid off decades later.

Midge Ure has announced details of a 2024 UK headline tour – you can find all the details below.

The soloist and former Ultravox frontman is due to head out on the road with his ‘Catalogue: The Hits’ trek later this year. He’ll play tracks from his extensive career at the forthcoming shows.

“I performed live long before I was ever allowed anywhere near a recording studio and as much as I love spending time writing and recording, live music remains my first love,” Ure said in a statement.

“This ‘Catalogue’ tour will allow me to not only play a wide selection of hits from my past but perform some of the most requested favourites. Revisiting these moments from my musical life is something I am really looking forward to sharing.”

The tour will include a concert at the London Palladium as well as stop-offs in Bournemouth, Oxford, Cardiff, Sheffield, Birmingham, Hull, Leeds, Manchester, Edinburgh and other locations throughout November and December.

In other news, Live Aid – which Midge Ure organised alongside Bob Geldof – has been made into a musical that is currently being staged at The Old Vic Theatre in London .
