Julia Jacklin

Julia’s assertive charm comes across in both her music and her on stage presence, the only difference being she is funnier in between her songs in which she contemplates what it means to be a woman viewed through her own lens, that of the men she’s loved, and of a perspective that shift as time goes on. Her voice is powerful and note perfect and especially enjoyable when she closed the show with an April Lavigne cover.

Tyler, The Creator

I have been a fan of Tyler for a long time, as well as the whole group of OFWGKTA, and seeing him live was something I had on my bucket list. I went in with high expectations for his show, already knowing of how much energy and enthusiasm he puts into his live performances. What I got at The Forum went above and beyond anything I could have hoped for. The crowd was amazing, knowing every song and shouting and yelling along with unrivaled amounts of energy. Tyler was just as, or even more, energetic and knew how to work the crowd perfectly by interaction, be it between moments talking about random things or talking about his music and singing. I was blown away by the fact that at least twice he called to stop the song just to start it again because he loved how into it the crowd was and wanted to see it again. Of course we, the crowd, loved it and drained our lungs out with every lyric. I've seen the Arctic Monkeys, Sleigh Bells, Banks, Pendulum, Wolf Alice and others and can honestly say Tyler was the best overall. Everyone exited the venue with shirts soaked in sweat and with cracking voices, with grins on their face from having experienced something they'd never forget. If you like Tyler, or by extension OFWGKTA, you have to see him live if you get the opportunity, you can never anticipate how godly his live performances will be. I will definitely be waiting for his next visit to see him again.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard

I saw these guys at the Subterranean in Chicago-- what an insane show. They electrified the crowd with non stop moshing, shoving, and stage diving, it was absolute madness. By the end of the gig I was utterly soaked with other peoples beer (theres always someone with a sloshing cup in a pit; why? just drink it!) and dripping with sweat. this show was epic, if you ever have the opportunity to see these guys you have to seize it-- they put on one hell of a show.

Ethereal, hopeful, humble, powerful... just absolute ART. The show was focused on everyone, a celebration of culture, love, identities, and struggle. I love that she made it more about the group on stage as a whole than just her- Tons of stage presence nonetheless. Beautiful band, beautiful backup singers. The lighting was amazing and the stage was so well done and simple. Solange holds her own and I cannot wait to see her when she comes back. You can tell she was feeling it when she got down on the left side of the stage and started singing to us, beautiful moment that reminds me why I love going to live shows/concerts. Flying Lotus was an absolute trip as well. I wish she would've brought Kelela out on this date... Scales is such a beautiful song and I'd of loved to see it live with them two.

Jon Hopkins

Hands down the best live concert I've been to in a long time. The newest album is a dream to hear live and this was made even better by the Audio-Visual effects, which were amazing! The venue is a really great space with a stunning sound system and tech. at hand - but really the credit goes to a fantastic artist who performed amazingly. Most of the setlist was from his newest release, but his editing and remix of these tracks and sneak peeks of some newer tracks made it even better!

Music artists

For new users looking to follow their favorite bands and performers, our Artists pages are often the best place to start.

Whether you're on our site, or using our free app for iPhone and Android, the Songkick artists search engine is the fastest and simplest way to keep track of who's doing what right now. Be the first to learn which acts are touring, when they might be playing a venue near you, and how to get tickets for any future shows you like the sound of.

Looking to discover someone new? Hey, you’re our kind of music fan. That's why we've also included upcoming Live Stream Concerts alongside our artist searches, meaning you can easily schedule a more casual drop-in from the comfort of your couch.

Since launching our first app back in 2007, you guys - the fans, the concert-goers, the musical explorers - have been at the very heart of everything we do here. Our dream and our drive was always to bring Songkick members closer than ever before to the sounds they love, and the people who create them. Simply put, we pride ourselves on being your direct link to the greatest music artists on the planet.

Who are they, exactly? Well, according to our members, that changes almost by the hour...so let's talk about how Songkick keeps you in the loop.

Best live artists

A quick glance at our Most Popular Artists chart might tell you a few key things about the sorts of music fans we vibe with. For starters, it shows just how varied our members' tastes are. Pop, rock, dance, hip-hop, indie/alt and R&B all feature heavily, alongside a whole bunch of underground genres and rising scenes.

No two of you are quite the same - and frankly, we love to see it! Any time you check in, our 'most popular artists worldwide' and 'trending artists this week' leaderboards always read like a line-up for the greatest, most diverse live festival on Earth.

Among the top searches and best-selling music artists on our global roster, you might find anyone from Rhianna, Coldplay, Eminem and Ed Sheeran, through to Drake, U2, Kanye West,

Maroon 5, Beyoncé, The Midnight, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Taylor Swift, Calvin Harris, Imagine Dragons, Justin Bieber - and that's barely looking outside the top 20.

After all, if the weekly race for a spot on our most popular charts tells us anything, it's that the whole concept of 'best live bands' is a tricky one to pin down. Everybody's looking for a completely different type of experience, every night of the year.

That's another thing we love about our users: you're incredible at keeping us on our toes. In return, we’ve made it our mission to help keep you on yours.

Find and follow your favorite artists on Songkick

When people talk about the 'best live bands in the world', a few big names will reliably come up time and time again. Just as crucially, there'll always be a good handful of newcomers, hot tips and total curveballs in there too.

For us and our members alike, that's a huge part of what keeps the live concert scene so fresh and exciting. There's nothing quite like the thrill of discovering a new favorite artist you'd previously never even heard of - and when that discovery involves a performer blowing you away with an incredible live show or streamed concert, the feeling is enhanced tenfold.

Songkick started out with the goal of helping you capture that moment as often as possible. Now, more than a decade into this, it's 100% what we're still about today.

New members visiting our site or downloading the app can use our powerful search tools to stay ahead of the game. Simply log in with a user profile to keep tabs on more than 6 million bands, shows, festivals and live streams. 41 Can’t-Miss Concerts This Summer

From the Roots Picnic to Sir Elton, your guide to what's sure to be the best summer concert season ever.

summer concerts

It’s going to be a big year for summer concerts. Photograph courtesy of Alive Coverage

After two years of COVID uncertainty, it seems every band in the world is on tour this summer. Here’s a guide to what’s sure to be the best summer concert season ever.

Concerts by Month:

  • The Jam-o-Meter: Just how out-there is your favorite jam band?
  • They’ve Got it Covered: Local tribute bands to seek out
  • Guilty Pleasures: So bad, yet so good
  • VIP Concert Experiences: What 5 very, very VIP tix will cost you — and what you’ll get for the hefty price tag
  • The Summer 2022 Music Festival Survival Guide: Five of the region’s biggest summer fests, explained

Summer Concerts: June

T-Pain The artist who brought the now-ubiquitous Auto-Tune to the masses. Search out the 2014 New Yorker profile “The Sadness of T-Pain” for insight into this complex rapper. June 2nd at the Fillmore.

Kurt Vile The hometown hero pairs up with two avant-garde ensembles: Chicago’s Natural Information Society for night one and our own Sun Ra Arkestra for night two. I’d go to both. June 3rd and 4th at Union Transfer.

The Roots Picnic

Headliners are Mary J. Blige (performing with the Roots), recent Cardi B and Usher collaborator Summer Walker, and Nigerian music star Wizkid. But get there early so you don’t miss Philly talents  Jazmine Sullivan , Tierra Whack and DJ Jazzy Jeff. More tips in our Summer 2022 Music Festival Survival Guide . June 4th and 5th at the Mann.

Chaka Khan Rightly billed as “the undisputed queen of funk.” June 8th at the Academy of Music.

Coldplay Chris Martin sings earnestly and dances like no one’s watching. And if you want a VIP photo op (not with the band, sorry), you can buy that too .  June 8th at the Linc.

Tragedy Are you ready for something totally ridiculous? Try out this New York City band that performs heavy-metal versions of songs like “Stayin’ Alive,” “Sweet Caroline,” and “Total Eclipse of the Heart.” They’re really very good. June 11th at Kung Fu Necktie.

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss The once-unlikely pairing of Led Zeppelin’s frontman with the banjo-plucking Country Music Hall of Fame singer has surprised many critics by lasting 15 years. June 12th at the Mann.

Bonnie Raitt A good guiding principle for your life: Don’t trust anybody who says they don’t like her at least a little bit. June 15th at the Mann.

Justin Bieber Better than he gets credit for. June 16th at the Wells Fargo Center.

“Something to Talk About” The tagline for this mini music fest says it all: “Three days of punk in the greatest city in the world.” June 16th through 18th at the Foto Club.

Tune-Yards Truly one of a kind. If you’re looking to add something different to your life, this may be it. June 18th at Union Transfer.

Kenny Chesney One of the most successful crossover country artists of all time. June 18th at the Linc.

Tears for Fears The 1980 British duo (think “Mad World” and “Shout”) with opener Garbage (think “Only Happy When It Rains” and “Stupid Girl”). June 21st at the Mann.

Lionel Richie Let me help you out with those “All Night Long” lyrics so you know what you’re doing for the inevitable encore. The words are: “We’re going to party, karamu, fiesta, forever.” You’re welcome. June 24th at Hard Rock A.C.

Man Man The weird and wonderful experimental rock band was once the biggest thing on the Philly music scene and then sort of disappeared. Who knows what they have in store for us with this new from-out-of-nowhere tour? (Google “School of Rock Kids React to Seeing Man Man for First Time” for some laughs.) June 30th at Ardmore Music Hall.

The Peach Festival Now in its 10th year, this Scranton summer festival features the solo project from Trey Anastasio, the Black Crowes, bluegrass master Billy Strings, the Wailers, and a bunch of other super-chill bands. June 30th through July 3rd, Montage Mountain

The Jam-o-Meter

Dead & Company / Photograph via Getty Images

Just how out-there is your favorite jam band? Four favorites, from most jammy to least:

1. Phish Completely wackadoodle and unpredictable — two qualities their diehard fans keep in the “pros” column. The band was once accused by Esquire of making “terrible music.” Or, as Vice summed Phish up: “It’s important that we never forget that this band is totally awful.” July 19th and 20th at the Mann and August 5th through 7th on the Atlantic City beach .

2. Dead & Company Rumored to be the final tour for the remaining members of the Grateful Dead, more than a quarter-century after Jerry Garcia, well, died. They’ve gotten less weird in their old age. July 10th at Citizens Bank Park.

3. Disco Biscuits Phish fans love to besmirch Philly’s own jam band as a wannabe version of Phish. It’s even been suggested that the Disco Biscuits songwriting team makes Phish’s look like Lennon and McCartney. Ouch! At their best, trippy and danceable. At their worst, still better than Phish. June 18th and 19th at the Mann.

4. Dave Matthews Band Though Dave and company love to noodle — and some fans (dubiously) claim they never play a song the same way twice — DMB is downright tame compared to the competition.  July 15th and 16th at the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion.

Summer Concerts: July

The Weeknd comes to the Linc on July 14th / Photograph via Getty Images

George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic He’s not going to be around forever (he’s 80, and I’m frankly surprised he made it this far), so if you want to hear “Maggot Brain” and “One Nation Under a Groove” performed by the man who penned them … July 7th at the Fillmore.

The Weeknd The first U.S. date on his summer stadium tour. Opening: Doja Cat, who gave the winning performance at last year’s Made in America fest and has been tearing it up ever since. July 14th at the Linc.

Elton John They’re calling his final tour, so if you’ve always wanted to see Sir Elton in his bespectacled, piano-playing glory, now’s your chance. Speaking of that piano, you can snag a VIP pic with it (minus the Rocketman), but it’ll cost you dearly. July 15th at Citizens Bank Park.

Femi Kuti & the Positive Force If you’ve ever been to the Mann Center, you either sat on the lawn or had traditional seats. But this season, the Mann has debuted a concert series called Downstage in which the lawn and traditional seats are closed and all of the seating is on the stage itself. “We’ve made it so that the audience and artist can be very much together,” says Toby Blumenthal, VP of programming and chief innovation officer. Next up is Femi Kuti & the Positive Force — Kuti’s the son of Afrobeat legend and activist Fela Kuti — complete with an onstage dance after-party, which sounds like the perfect way to spend a summer night. July 16th at the Mann.

Ledisi The R&B singer, who picked up her first Grammy last year, will pay tribute to the late, great Nina Simone, accompanied by the Philadelphia Orchestra, no less. July 22nd at the Mann.

Japanese Breakfast Joined by Yo La Tengo and Cate Le Bon, the former Philadelphian whose given name is Michelle Zauner (and who wrote the 2021 New York Times best-selling memoir Crying in H Mart ), performs a charity show, with 100 percent of proceeds going to improve parks in underserved Philly neighborhoods . July 23rd at the Dell.

They’ve Got it Covered

Local tribute bands worth seeking out

If you love James Brown … Go see Arthur Thomas and the Funkitorium, which fuses old-school funk with hip-hop. June 17th at World Cafe Live.

If you love Led Zeppelin … Go see Get the Led Out and their note-for-note album versions of the songs — something the band never did live. June 17th and 18th at the Keswick.

If you love David Bowie … Go see Candy Volcano , a glam-band tribute specializing in his music. July 30th at the TLA.

If you love Grateful Dead … Go see the brilliantly named Jawn of the Dead. August 6th at World Cafe Live.

Summer Concerts: August

leon bridges concert

Leon Bridges performs at the Mann in August / Photograph via Getty Images

Marian Hill The electronica duo met at Haverford High and are back with a new album, Why Can’t We Just Pretend? , that’s been getting a lot of attention. August 4th at World Cafe Live.

Roger Waters One of the most theatrical and special-effects-laden rock shows that exist today, from the arguable mastermind behind Pink Floyd. August 5th and 6th at the Wells Fargo Center.

Alicia Keys Who knew that Alicia Keys had her own graphic novel ? Answer: Probably anybody who would drop a grand on her VIP package, which includes a copy of it. More on the experience in our “Very, Very VIP” guide .  August 6th at Hard Rock A.C. and August 7th at the Met .

TidalWave This brand-new country music fest is right on the beach. Luke Bryan, Morgan Wallen and Dierks Bentley top the 33-act bill, but the real stars are the sun, sea and sand. More tips in our Summer 2022 Music Festival Survival Guide . August 12th through 14th, Atlantic City

Leon Bridges One day, he was washing dishes in Texas. Two years later? Performing for Obama at the White House. Not a bad trajectory. August 13th at the Mann Center.

Barry Manilow The final stop on a rare tour from the man who writes the songs that make the whole world sing. August 14th at the Wells Fargo Center.

Earth Wind & Fire and Santana A magical summertime double bill. August 18th at the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion.

Brandi Carlile Touring in support of her widely acclaimed 2021 album In These Silent Days . Something about her performances always gives me chills. August 20th at the Mann.

Sometimes, something so bad can be so, so good. Consider these picks musical scrapple.

“Masked Singer: The Live Tour” When this bizarre TV show first came out, we rolled our eyes and guessed it would be canceled within months. Here we are, seven seasons later. Like they say, there’s no accounting for taste. June 17th at the Tropicana.

Mötley Crüe Though the whole time I’m sitting there, I’ll be thinking about drummer Tommy Lee’s talking penis. (Watch the mini-series Pam & Tommy — utterly NSFW— for more on this, if you dare.) With Joan Jett, Def Leppard and (ugh) Poison. June 25th at Citizens Bank Park .

NKOTB Oldheads know them as New Kids On the Block, of course. Never forget that Mark Wahlberg was part of this boy-band troupe before he found his funky bunch and, later, Hollywood stardom. With Salt-N-Pepa, Rick Astley and En Vogue. June 29th at the Wells Fargo Center and July 3rd at Hard Rock A.C.

Vanilla Ice Performing his hits “Ice, Ice Baby” and … and … okay, I give up. With Tone Loc, Rob Base and DJ Jazzy Jeff. The show is after the Phillies-Mets game, and concert admission is included with your game ticket. August 19th at Citizens Bank Park.

Ghost Will Haunt U.S. Amphitheaters on a Summer Tour

Papa Emeritus IV is coming to an amphitheater near you. Ghost , the Swedish hard-rock band led by the man of a thousand faces, Tobias Forge, has announced a U.S. summer tour .

Titled the Re-Imperatour U.S.A. 2023, the trek begins August 2nd in Concord, California, and plays 27 dates, wrapping up September 11th in Los Angeles. Along the way, the tour hits cities like Chicago, Milwaukee, Tampa, Austin, and Phoenix. Fellow Swedish metalheads Amon Amarth open all dates except the L.A. closer.

Ghost released their latest album, Impera , last year, a record that rails against bloated nations, empty leaders, and the glorification of stupidity. “We now have mechanisms within our own Western empire who are actively trying to, and to some degree have, created this time machine where we’re regressing,” Forge told Rolling Stone . “We’re flattening the earth. We’re submitting to stupidity, which is fucking unbelievable.”

Earlier this month, Ghost staged a pop-up exhibit at the Whisky a Go Go on the Sunset Strip in L.A. that featured memorabilia, from stage costumes to a “corpse,” from their supposed Sixties incarnation. They also released a new version of the Impera track “Spillways” featuring Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott.

Iconic Musicians Who Are Back on the Road This Year

Roger Waters

Roger Waters

It’s Better to Burn Out Than Fade Away

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted live performances for nearly two years when it took hold of the world in early 2020. But this year, a number of big names are taking to the stage for a triumphant return, and fans just can't seem to get enough. Many of these classic acts have been entertaining audiences for decades, including Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters (though he won't be allowed to perform in Ukraine due to his controversial views on the Russian invasion of Ukraine ). Another band returning to the big stage is Roxy Music — performing for the first time in the U.S. in two decades for its 50th anniversary reunion tour .

Check tour dates

After last performing together in 2011, the British rock band — comprised of Bryan Ferry, Andy Mackay, Phil Manzanera, and Paul Thompson — is back on the road this year  for a 13-date North American tour. Starting Sept. 7 in Toronto, the musicians made their way down to the U.S. for 10 shows (their last U.S. show is Wednesday at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles), before wrapping up with three performances in Scotland and their native England. Bringing back hit singles, including "Virginia Plain," "Do the Strand, "Love is the Drug," and "More than This," this half-century reunion may just be worth checking out.

Roger Waters

Roger Waters

The former Pink Floyd frontman, who turned 79 this year, is finally back on his This Is Not a Drill tour after a two-year delay due to the pandemic. Waters is playing 40 days in the U.S. and Canada as well as Mexico and Europe. He will no longer be playing in Poland, however, after a  city councilman in Krakow canceled his two April concerts  in a city-owned arena, citing Waters' "objectionable" views about the war in Ukraine. Though the councilman is pushing to declare Waters persona non grata in a symbolic gesture, he's free to perform at a private venue in the city.

Stevie Nicks

Stevie Nicks

Legend Stevie Nicks is not wasting time between her tour announcement and her concerts — she'll start playing at the Ravinia Festival near Chicago in early September. After that, there are 15 more dates through October, most of them at outdoor venues and festivals with Vanessa Carlton opening.

Aerosmith

Despite news  of Steven Tyler's recent relapse and rehab, and the subsequent announcement that the band's June and July residency dates in Las Vegas would be canceled, the band is — for now — still slated to play its September dates, along with a couple of other early September shows in Bangor, Maine, and Boston.

The Beach Boys

The Beach Boys

Mike Love’s version of the influential band (original members Brian Wilson and Al Jardine aren't involved) always stays busy. They have gigs booked across Europe through July 10, then return to North America for dozens of both Canadian and U.S.-based shows in both 2022 and 2023.

Billy Idol

The sneering “White Wedding” singer is back on the road in August, but will only play a handful of U.S. shows in Arizona, California, and Idaho before heading to South America and Europe.

asian chinese man using mobile app cinema movie e-ticketing reservation looking for seat inside cinema hall

The Piano Man’s pandemic-shortened 2020 stadium tour continues this year until Oct. 9. Along the way, he'll play five shows at Madison Square Garden, and a handful more in Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Texas.

Blue Oyster Cult

Blue Öyster Cult

BOC will continue to tour this summer before taking off for Europe in the fall, performing some shows with Deep Purple. "The Reaper" band also is planning three 50th anniversary shows at NYC's Sony Hall in September, with each show covering one of the Cult's iconic albums in its entirety.

Boz Scaggs

William Royce “Boz” Scaggs  was on the road most of the summer, touring the eastern U.S. His last show was Aug. 27 in Hinckley, Minnesota. The Boz Scaggs website notes no upcoming tour dates.

Chicago

This horn-driven, jazz-influenced rock band has a long history of touring, which will continue across the U.S. this summer and into the fall with dozens of dates — including a lot of outdoor venues — in all four corners of the U.S. and lots of places in between. The last show is Oct. 20 at Live at the Garden in Memphis.

Dead & Company

Dead & Co.

It wouldn’t be summer if the Dead weren’t on the road. After a long strange trip through the pandemic, the psychedelic rockers with Bob Weir wrapped up their summer tour July 16 at Citi Field in New York. The band is looking ahead to 2023 and has scheduled concerts in Riviera Cancun, Mexico, on Jan. 14-17.

Def Leppard

Def Leppard

British rock band Def Leppard is touring through Sept. 9, which in and of itself will delight fans. But add Motley Crue, Poison, and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts into the mix, and hard rock fans definitely will want to get on board for Def Leppard's 2022 Stadium Tour.

The Doobie Brothers

The Doobie Brothers

The Doobies’ 50th-anniversary tour, which includes Michael McDonald, Tom Johnston, Pat Simmons, and John McFee, continues takin' it to the streets — err, the stage — through Oct. 12.

Duran Duran

Duran Duran

Gen-Xers will be happy to learn that Simon and the boys, who were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year, are touring this summer. They're playing a handful of shows in the U.S. through mid-September. The group's last three shows are Sept. 9-11 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

Earth, Wind & Fire

Earth, Wind & Fire

The band is back on the road this summer and fall, wrapping up its Miraculous Supernatural tour with Santana. They'll take to the Midwest in July, heading east and playing loads of U.S. locations until the last show at Sol Fest in Cancun, Mexico, on Nov. 9.

Elton John

After more than 50 years on the road, much of the Rocket Man’s “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour had to be rescheduled. But the final U.S. leg began July 15 in Philadelphia, with stops in more U.S. and Canadian locations before wrapping up Nov. 20 in Los Angeles.

Eric Clapton

Eric Clapton

Ranked second on Rolling Stone’s list of 100 greatest guitarists of all time, Slowhand himself returns to the stage this year for nearly two dozen shows. If you want to see him in the States, however, you'll have to wait until late summer. Starting Sept. 8, he is playing seven shows in Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Massachusetts, and New York — most with Jimmie Vaughan, brother to late Texas blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Foreigner

The jukebox heroes tour in Europe, South Africa, Mexico, and the U.S. this summer. Their stateside dates kicked off in Texas, and from there they'll keep rockin' out until they wrap things up in Tampa, Florida, on Nov. 15.

Hall and Oates

Hall and Oates

Nearly 50 years after the launch of their first album, the blue-eyed soul duo hits the road again in 2022 for a handful of shows in the U.S. starting Sept. 1 in Canandaigua, New York. They'll play five more concerts in Indiana, New Jersey, Connecticut and (two shows in) Nevada before wrapping things up. As of this update, tickets are still available for all shows.

James Taylor

James Taylor

Sweet Baby James and his all-star band — with “very special guest” Jackson Browne — continue to crisscross the U.S. and Europe this summer and fall, showering fans with songs from his “American Standard” album and a long list of his hits.

Jimmy Buffett

Jimmy Buffett

With 27 studio albums behind them, it seems like Buffett and his Coral Reefer Band are always on the road, delighting his loyal following of “Parrotheads.” This summer is no exception with dates stretching late into the year. In December, Buffet will play in Antarctica in support of ocean conservation. Alas, tickets to this once-in-a-lifetime event are predictably sold out.

Journey

Just like in 2021, the band did what we call a micro-tour this summer, playing just 11 shows between July 15 and Aug. 8 — four of them in Las Vegas. Not all's lost, though. The band has added six performances in September and October, which will take them to Sparks, Nevada, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and two destinations in Mexico. before wrapping up with two shows in Honolulu. What's more, some 2023 shows are already scheduled.

Kiss

The band’s “End of the Road” tour took a detour in 2020, but they’re back touring in Europe and Australia through the end of August. After that, they'll return to the States, playing three shows in West Palm Beach, Florida; Louisville, Kentucky; and Sacramento, California.

Lynyrd Skynyrd

Lynyrd Skynyrd

Check tour dates

The Southern Rock superstars were forced to suspend their “Last of the Street Survivors” farewell tour for 15 months. But the band returned to the road in June 2021 and continue to play some U.S.-based shows this year. You have until Sept. 29 in Hollywood, Florida, to give you at least one more chance to hear “Free Bird” played live.

Metallica

The kings of metal will mostly play in Europe this summer, but if you're in New York or Los Angeles, you're in luck. Metallica is playing shows in those cities Sept. 24 and Dec. 16, respectively.

Pearl Jam

Pearl Jam's legion of mega-devoted fans is ecstatic this year. After canceling its 2020 tour, the band has returned to the stage for a North American tour with dates starting in September.

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Anthony Kiedis, Flea, and the rest of the RHCP gang are giving it away across the Europe and North America this summer, after kicking things off in Spain in early June. They headed back to the U.S. for an opening show at Denver's Empower Field at Mile High and continue to play shows through Oct. 16, where they'll cap off the tour at the Austin City Limits Music Festival. From there, it's on to New Zealand.

Ringo Starr

Ringo Starr

After two years off due to the pandemic, the ex-Beatle and his All Starr Band have a lineup of shows through October. Most are east of the Mississippi, with a handful in Washington, Oregon, and California in the fall. He'll wrap up with two shows in Mexico City on Oct. 19-20. During the tour, Starr turned 82 (on July 7, when he played the Beacon Theatre in New York). As he recently told  ABC News: “I’m a musician. I don’t have to retire. As long as I can pick up those sticks, I got a gig.”

Rod Stewart

Rod Stewart

Sir Rod Stewart's “The Hits” tour continues with dates across North America through early September. After that, he'll play five shows at Las Vegas's The Colosseum at Caesars Palace between Sept. 23 and Oct. 1, then move on to shows in the U.K. through Dec. 20. Can't make it this year? No worries — Rod the Mod will be touring again in August 2023.

The Rolling Stones

The Rolling Stones

The band continued to tour in 2022, but you would've had to head to Europe to catch a show. Mick, Keith, and the gang played their last show of the year in Berlin on Aug. 3.

Santana

Santana is on the road with Earth, Wind & Fire this year for the Miraculous Supernatural tour — though at least one of the shows was postponed by 74-year-old Santana's on-stage collapse  July 5, reportedly due to heat exhaustion. Starting in mid-September and going through November, Carlos and the gang will head to Las Vegas for a 16-show stint at the House of Blues. Those shows are billed as "An Intimate Evening with Santana: Greatest Hits Live."

Scorpions

This German rock band — which formed in 1965 but reached peak popularity in the 1980s — is playing 19 shows nationwide this fall.

Smashing Pumpkins

Smashing Pumpkins/Jane's Addiction

These two alternative rock band icons kick things off at Dallas' American Airlines Center on Oct. 2, and then tour across the country through Nov. 19, when they'll conclude the tour at Los Angeles' Hollywood Bowl.

Steely Dan in 2007

“The Dan” hit the road in 2021 and continued going strong through mid-August, taking the stage in Arizona, Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, New York, Virginia, New Jersey, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Florida, South Carolina, and Connecticut. Opening bands included Snarky Puppy and the Dave Stryker Trio. No new touring dates are scheduled.

Sting

After a Las Vegas residency that ended in mid-June, the former Police frontman hit the road, continuing his My Songs tour across Europe before returning to the U.S. for a series of shows that run through Sept. 11.

Styx

Didn't catch one of the band's 2021 shows? You can still get your Styx fix in 2022 — the band is touring across the U.S. and Canada through mid-October.

Todd Rundgren

Todd Rundgren

The 2021-minted member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame continues to tour in 2022 with an interesting and mixed-bag lineup of shows. Rundgren is playing some shows with Daryl Hall of Hall & Oates, the last of which is Oct. 1 in Brookville, New York. In October, he begins a "Celebrating David Bowie" tour with Bowie guitarist Adrian Belew and Angelo “Scrote” Bundini for 30 shows running Oct. 6-Nov. 13.

Van Morrison

Van Morrison

There's good news if you're a fan of this legendarily cranky "Moondance" crooner. Starting Sept. 1 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, he plays a dozen shows across the U.S., including three in Las Vegas Oct. 7-9.

The Who

The pinball wizards kicked things off in the U.K. over the summer, but by early October, they'll be rocking the house in Detroit with "The Who Hits Back!" tour. They'll continue to play shows in California, Michigan, Ohio, Colorado, and beyond through Nov. 5.

ZZ Top

Despite Dusty Hill's 2021 death, the “little ol’ band from Texas” continued to tour this summer with dates that stretch well into the fall — including a five-night stand in Las Vegas on Dec. 3-10. The band's longtime guitar tech, Elwood Francis, has replaced Hill in the lineup.

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour: All the U.S. and international dates and opening acts

tour this summer

Taylor Swift opened the Eras Tour at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona — which rebranded itself as "Swift Cit y" for the March 17 and 18 concerts — with a triumphant return to live performance as the first act in the history of that venue to sell out two nights on the same tour.

By that point, she'd already broken the all-time record for most concert tickets sold by an artist in a single day and passed Madonna's Sticky & Sweet Tour as the highest-grossing tour in history by a female artist.

And Swift rose to the occasion , leading her band through a marathon 44-song set that lasted more than three hours while delivering on her promise of "a journey through all of my musical eras."

So what does she do for an encore? Here's where the Eras Tour is headed next, adding two surprise songs to the set at each show. Here's a look at what she's played so far .

Taylor Swift’s Eras isn’t the only big pop tour this summer

U.s. tour highlights also include beyoncé, janet jackson, alicia keys, fleet foxes and the chicks.

tour this summer

Despite what your timeline, feed or For You page might suggest, Taylor Swift is far from the only touring artist hitting arenas this summer. Other huge names across genres are also taking the stage, some after long absences, with fewer restrictions than we’ve seen since pre-pandemic days. Check out our picks of the best U.S. summer tours, and consider a trip to a stadium near you to relive ’90s nostalgia, bask in revamped rap or sway to summery folk.

Janet Jackson

Janet Jackson has spent a half-century in the spotlight , but her star hasn’t dimmed. Her sugary voice floats above dance beats that still feel young, and her set lists regularly stretch to 40 songs. Jackson knows that she reached diva status long ago; she proved as much when she started a recent performance with a video montage titled “50 Years … of Me.” But her most recent release, a remastered deluxe edition of “The Velvet Rope,” which dropped in 1997 after three upbeat blockbuster records, explores the darker side of her early stardom: What is it like to have the world try to figure you out before you know who you are? In the age of social media, her 25-year-old questions feel, for better or worse, new again. But this time, Jackson knows exactly who she is.

Through June 21 at various venues. janetjackson.com/tour .

“This Is Why,” Paramore’s first recording in five years, feels carbonated. Pressurized by the pandemic and a hiatus, it’s clear that the trio is refreshed when it finally explodes on anthemic choruses in “Running Out of Time” and “Thick Skull,” singer Hayley Williams’s commanding vocals soaring. She released two intimate solo albums during her time away from Paramore with collaborators such as boygenius, but it’s on “This Is Why” that she finally stretches out again, erupting with an energy that has been building for years. Paramore is joined on the back half of this tour by the all-female post-punk band Linda Lindas, whose members range from 12 to 18 years old.

Through Aug. 2 at various venues. paramore.net/tour .

Fleet Foxes

In a statement accompanying “Shore,” Fleet Foxes’ latest release, singer Robin Pecknold writes that he “wanted to make an album that celebrated life in the face of death.” It’s a valiant goal for an album released in the dreary depths of 2020. But Pecknold has a way of turning distress into joy on the folky tracks, which feel sunlight-warm and simpler than older works, even with challenging lyrics that put his three-quarters of a Columbia University English degree to good use. The five-piece’s summer tour also features Nigerian American indie pop singer Uwade.

June 13-Aug. 24 at various venues .

Alicia Keys

For most, time ebbed during the pandemic — but not for Alicia Keys, who spent the lockdown promoting an autobiography, launching a skin-care line, starring in a YouTube docuseries , running an online meditation program and writing a graphic novel. She also released two albums: “Alicia” (2020) and “Keys” (2021). The “Girl on Fire” singer can’t be kept down. Keys, a 15-time Grammy winner, has spent much of her time on the road since last June, when she kicked off her first global tour in a decade. She’ll hit 19 countries and three continents before she wraps the U.S. leg of the tour in early August.

June 28-Aug. 2 at various venues. aliciakeys.com .

As an artist who stands alone at the top, Beyoncé doesn’t just govern — she reigns. That’s why her opening night in Stockholm felt less like a concert and more like a royal ball. “Queen Bey” is back on her throne after a bewildering Grammys night where she made headlines for garnering the most awards of any artist ever but lost the coveted album of the year prize to Harry Styles . This is her first tour in seven years (unless you count couch rewatches of her Netflix concert film “Homecoming”), in promotion of her effervescent album “Renaissance,” which was heralded like royalty last year .

July 12-Sept. 27 at various venues. tour.beyonce.com .

“Even if we never said another word, I feel like they want us to be controversial,” Chicks multi-instrumentalist Emily Strayer told The Washington Post in 2020. She was referring, of course, to 20-year running reactions to the 2003 incident in which lead singer Natalie Maines told a crowd that “we’re ashamed [President George W. Bush] is from Texas” just before the Iraq War. Despite getting “canceled” before the term went mainstream, the trio seems to have accepted its reputation for provocation with grace, infusing political messages into the mostly apolitical 2020 album “Gaslighter.” On “For Her,” Maines explains: “I’m not a martyr/ I’m just someone who cares.”

July 21-Sept. 1 at various venues. thechicks.com/tour .

Maggie Rogers

The title of Maggie Rogers’s 2022 album, “Surrender,” was also the name of her Harvard Divinity School thesis last year. Studying what Rogers describes as the “spirituality of public gatherings and the ethics of power in pop culture” has served her well, as evidenced by the tracks’ synth-slathered rumination on fame. “Took me all this long to figure out/ It’s not worth it if I can’t touch the ground,” she considers on the ballad “Horses.” Rogers wraps a summer of shows (backed by Alvvways and Soccer Mommy) with a headlining spot at Merriweather Post Pavilion’s All Things Go festival in October alongside Lana Del Ray, boygenius and Carly Rae Jepsen.

Tour: July 24-Aug. 18 at various venues. maggierogers.com/tour ; All Things Go : Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 at Merriweather Post Pavilion, Columbia, Md.

For a rapper as record-breakingly relevant as Lil Baby , it feels impossible that this headlining tour is only his second (or third, if you count a co-headlining spot with Chris Brown). Even his tour announcement video , posted to Instagram in April, has nearly 13 million views. It features the cast of industry favorites, including GloRilla , Gloss Up and Rylo Rodriguez, who will open for Lil Baby on a tour honoring his Atlanta-grown, drawl-wrapped, rapid-fire lyrics as much as his meteoric rise to stardom.

July 26-Sept. 22 at various venues. iamlilbaby.com .

Chance the Rapper

It has been 10 years since the release of “Acid Rap,” the breakthrough mixtape meditation on youth that skyrocketed Chance the Rapper to fame. The album represented a destructive time in his life — “If I hadn’t had my spirit tugged on, literally, and a calling to become a better version of myself, then I would’ve died. I would just be representative of acid, and I’m so much more,” he told Complex . But fans regard “Acid Rap” as one of his best works, perhaps because there’s something sinfully pleasing about his depiction of destruction, rapped with an indelible voice that teeters on the edge of a joke. His anniversary tour, marking the release of a deluxe edition of “Acid Rap,” makes only three stops, in hometown Chicago, New York and Los Angeles.

Aug. 19 in Chicago, Aug. 26 in New York and Sept. 21 in Los Angeles. chancestuff.com/acid-rap-10-years .

Megan Thee Stallion Going on Tour This Summer

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - JANUARY 08: Megan Thee Stallion attends the "Mean Girls" premiere at AMC Lincoln Square Theater on January 08, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Arturo Holmes/Getty Images)

Megan Thee Stallion is going on tour this summer.

During an appearance on “Good Morning America,” the rapper confirmed that she’ll be hitting the road soon in support of her forthcoming third album.

“Oh, we’re having the tour this year. The Hot Girl Summer tour is going to be 2024, summertime,” she said. “I feel like I’ve never been able to be outside doing my own thing during the summer, since like 2019. So this is going to be the first time that I drop an album on time for the summer. I do want to give the hotties the Megan Thee Stallion experience.”

“It was really rough because for the past couple years, music just seemed so negative to me,” she said on “GMA.” “I just wasn’t in a good space mentally after everything that had happened to me and it just all felt like, ‘I’m tired of this. I’m tired of fighting.’ But I had to tell myself, you know what, I don’t want to give up.”

Beyond her new music, Stallion has been making headlines recently for her ongoing feud with fellow rapper Nicki Minaj . The two have traded disses in their respective new singles, “Hiss” and “Big Foot.” One line in particular in “Hiss,” which debuted on Jan. 25, caught the attention of Minaj: “These hoes don’t be mad at Megan, these hoes mad at Megan’s Law,” Megan raps. “I don’t really know what the problem is, but I guarantee y’all don’t want me to start.”

Megan’s Law is a federal law requiring law enforcement to make information available about registered sex offenders. The lyric was interpreted by some as a reference to Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, who is a registered sex offender after being convicted of attempted rape in April 1995 for an assault on a 16-year-old girl.

Minaj then fired back with the release of “Big Foot,” which makes several references to Stallion’s altercation with Lanez. “Bad bitch, she like 6 foot, I call her Big Foot, the bitch fell off, I said get up on your good foot,” Minaj raps.

Stallion has not yet directly responded to “Big Foot.”

'SNL': Rachel McAdams & Megan Thee Stallion Make Surprise Cameos For Renée Rapp Musical Performance

Although tour dates have not been announced, Megan has been confirmed for appearances in May at the Boston Calling and Bottlerock Napa Valley music festivals, and in June at Bonnaroo in Tennessee.

The tour announcement follows a rough few years in which Megan largely avoided the spotlight and the music industry: In 2020, she was shot in the foot by Canadian rapper Tory Lanez, who was sentenced last August to a 10-year prison sentence.

“Music just seemed so negative to me,” Megan said on GMA today – watch a clip below. “I just wasn’t in a good space mentally after everything that had happened to me and it just all felt like, ‘I’m tired of this. I’m tired of fighting.’ But I had to tell myself, you know what, I don’t want to give up.”

Controversy might not be quite so easy to give up though. Her longstanding feud with rapper Nicki Minaj remains firmly in place. Last week, Megan released the single “Hiss” from the upcoming album, which includes the line, “These hoes don’t be mad at Megan, these hoes mad at Megan’s Law.” The lyric was widely interpreted as a reference to Minaj’s husband Kenneth Petty, who is a registered sex offender due to his 1995 conviction on the attempted rape of a 16-year-old girl.

Minaj responded with her own new single, “Big Foot,” which includes the line, “Bad bitch/she like 6 foot/I call her Big Foot/the bitch fell off/I said get up on your good foot.”

Megan Thee Stallion

Megan Thee Stallion is hitting the road. The Houston rapper announced plans for the Hot Girl Summer Tour on Wednesday (March 13).

Meg will be connecting with her Hotties across the globe. Following a North American leg — which kicks off in May — she’ll be heading across the pond for a handful of dates in Europe.

“Hiss” is still holding on to the elusive chart, where it sits at No. 94 this week. An album may still be on the way before she hits the road for tour, which would be her first LP since 2022’s Traumazine .

Megan is now independent from her deal with 1501 Ent. and 300, but revealed in February she inked a partnership for distribution with Warner Music Group.

Within the structure of the unique deal, the Houston Hottie will have access to WMG’s global services ranging from music promotion to distribution and worldwide marketing, while maintaining ownership of her masters and publishing.

“This is the beginning of an exciting new chapter of my life and career,” Megan said in a statement. “I’m really focused on building an empire and growing as an entrepreneur, so I’m proud to take this next step in my journey and work with Max Lousada and the entire Warner Music Group team in this new capacity. I know we’re going to create history together.”

Find out if Megan is coming to a city near you this summer in her announcement below.

Megan Thee Stallion is officially going to be back on the road for summer 2024 and she's bringing a concert to a city near you really soon. As a newly-independent artist , Megan has released two songs “Cobra" and “Hiss” under her label Hot Girl Productions, which are both believed to be part of a larger, still-to-be-announced project.

For a while now, Megan Thee Stallion seems to have been teasing even more new music is on the way with multiple snake-inspired visuals . The latest of these teasers arrived just a couple of days after the Hot Girl Summer tour announcement. “You ready HOTTIES 👀🐍,” the star wrote to accompany a video featuring an illustration of a black and white snake motif. “Loading…” the video read as the snake changed its skin to a green and orange pattern.

The Top-Earning Summer Concert Tours Of 2023

Taylor Swift took the crown from Queen B as her blockbuster Eras Tour earned her $305 million, more than double what Beyoncé took home for her record-breaking Renaissance Tour.

By marisa dellatto , forbes staff.

“I can’t believe I get to do music as a career,” Taylor Swift said at the Los Angeles premiere of her new concert film, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour , before an audience of more than 2,000 Swifties that included Adam Sandler, Mariska Hargitay, Simu Liu, and even Beyoncé. “That’s crazy. I’ve always had so much fun doing it. I’ve never had this much fun in my life as I have had on The Eras Tour. It is far and away just the most electric experience of my life.”

It's also the most lucrative. Beginning in March and ending in August, Swift played 56 stadium shows across 20 U.S. cities and Mexico City, grossing more than an estimated $780 million and earning the 33-year-old pop queen an estimated $305 million.

Spanning nearly two decades and 10 albums, the Eras Tour is more than a retrospective of Swift’s career, it’s also a financial phenomenon. Because of the tremendous economic impact concert tours have on cities, Swift and Beyoncé–who earned an estimated $145 million from her record-breaking Renaissance World Tour this summer before taxes and fees—were credited by Morgan Stanley for adding $5.4 billion to the U.S. economy in the third quarter.

Both superstars will continue to reap millions with the release of their concert movies. Swift’s, which cost a reported $15 million to produce, according to the New York Times , is expected to earn upwards of $125 million at the domestic box office in its opening weekend and another $60 million internationally. Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé , premieres December 1. ( Forbes’ estimates in this story do not include potential or pre-sale grosses from the films.)

But not every dollar spent on a tour goes directly into the headliner’s pocket. “When you’re doing tours of this magnitude, you could have a staff of hundreds doing services on the road,” Jarred Arfa, head of global music at Independent Artists Group, which represents Billy Joel and Metallica, among many others, tells Forbes . “The list is never ending.”

The massive scale of a global tour typically includes bandmates, backup singers and dancers, crew members, sound engineers and lighting and stage designers, all of whom move from city to city with the headlining artist. Of course, venues need to be rented, and in the case of stadium superstars, transformed from a field to a stage. On the business side, there’s also a headliner’s manager and agent, as well as the promoter and the ticketing company, all of whom get a cut of the gross revenue.

Higher ticket prices—and Swift’s were estimated to be $253 on average, earning her about $10 to $13 million a night—doesn’t necessarily mean higher take-home pay for an artist. The costs of trucking and freight have increased significantly since the pandemic, and touring internationally typically costs more than putting on shows in the U.S.

For a tour to be profitable, acts have to “gross a significant amount of money across a lot of dates,” Arfa says. And that doesn’t always happen. Miley Cyrus recently claimed she “didn’t make a dime” from her Bangerz Tour in 2014. Which is why sponsorships, like Swift’s deal with Capital One, can help offset the exorbitant costs.

Despite the significant expense of touring, Forbes estimates the top 10 highest-earning musicians have netted more than $1 billion from January 1 to August 31. Other top performers include Ed Sheeran, whose Mathematics tour has earned an estimated $110 million, and Coldplay, who have earned some $85 million so far this year from their Music of the Spheres World Tour; Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, the last of his storied career, ended after five years in July. And those yellow bricks were clearly made of gold. John’s became the first tour to gross more than $800 million and then $900 million, to become the highest-grossing tour of all time with a total of $939 million.

Until next year.

The second half of Swift’s Eras Tour will resume in November—with concert dates in Asia and Europe before returning to North America—and when it finishes in 2024, it is expected be the first tour to gross well over a billion dollars.

Here are the top-earning concert tours of 2023 through August.

#1. Taylor Swift

The eras tour | no. of shows: 56, 2023 gross: $780 million | earnings: $305 million.

Taylor Swift may be doing a mini tour of luxury boxes at Kansas City Chiefs games right now, but for most of the year she was selling out stadiums. An average ticket price of $253 (and Ticketmaster’s crash during the sale) didn't deter concertgoers: she’s played to more than 3 million adoring fans so far. Some diehard Swifties also waited hours in line for the chance to purchase coveted $75 hoodies—though everyone knows there are plenty of free friendship bracelets to be traded in the stands.

#2. Beyoncé

Renaissance world tour | no. of shows: 46, 2023 gross: $460 million | earnings: $145 million.

By the time the Renaissance Tour wrapped up earlier this month, after stops in 12 countries, it grossed $579 million, making it one of the highest-grossing tours in history. For Beyoncé’s 42nd birthday show in Los Angeles in September, she asked concertgoers to wear silver and those in attendance—including Meghan Markle, Chris Rock, Jeff Bezos and Tyler Perry—did as Queen B commanded.

#3. Ed Sheeran

- +–=÷× (mathematics) tour | no. of shows: 41, 2023 gross: $240 million | earnings: $110 million.

Fittingly, the 2023 leg of Ed Sheeran’s Mathematics tour did big numbers. His pared-down production style and average ticket price of roughly $100 allowed the 32-year-old Sheeran to net a greater portion of ticket sales compared to his superstar competitors. Sheeran started the year in New Zealand before ending the tour in the U.S. Along the way, he broke a record at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, performing in front of more than 77,000 fans.

#4. Coldplay

Music of the spheres world tour | no. of shows: 43, 2023 gross: $275 million | earnings: $85 million.

For its Music of the Sphere world Tour, eco-conscious Coldplay kept the production as sustainable as possible: The stage was built from reusable materials; the confetti was biodegradable, and the LED wristbands given to fans were compostable. Band members Chris Martin, Johnny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion visited 10 countries this summer in South America and Europe. After a stint in North America, the band will head to Asia and return to Europe in 2024.

Summer Carnival | No. of shows: 37

2023 gross: $300 million | earnings: $85 million.

Only P!nk could perform two tours at once while hanging upside down—this month she took a break from her Summer Carnival tour to start her 20-date Trustfall tour shows. For a musician who famously flies through the air and performs acrobatics during her shows, P!nk also shattered a glass ceiling this year: In August, she became the first woman to headline a stadium concert in Wisconsin.

#6. Harry Styles

Love on tour | no. of shows: 49, 2023 gross: $227 million | earnings: $70 million.

Before music fans were coordinating themed outfits for the Eras and Renaissance tours, they were buying groovy costumes and feather boas for Harry Styles’ Love On Tour. After kicking off in 2021—when it quickly became the most-attended tour of the year—Styles’ love fest finally wrapped up in July. He spent most of 2023 playing to international audiences, first in Oceania, then Asia, before wrapping up in Europe. It concluded with a total gross of $617 million, having sold more than 5 million tickets across 169 shows.

#7. Elton John

Farewell yellow brick road tour | no. of shows: 63, 2023 gross: $195 million | earnings: $70 million.

Having toured since the 1970s, the Rocket Man had his final splash down in July. Since 2018, when Farewell Yellow Brick Road began, the 76-year-old John has played 330 shows and worn some 16 Gucci outfits. During John’s last Glastonbury appearance in June drew an A-list crowd, including Paul McCartney, Kate Hudson, Debbie Harry, Anya Taylor-Joy and Lewis Hamilton.

#8. Morgan Wallen

One night at a time world tour | no. of shows: 30, 2023 gross: $190 million | earnings: $70 million.

Wallen’s $70 million haul from his One Night at a Time tour would have been higher, but the singer opted to donate $3 from every ticket sold at his U.S. shows to the Morgan Wallen Foundation, which supports sports and music programs for youth. After a brief tour in Oceania, Wallen trekked across the United States. In April, he played to more than 39,000 in two shows at Milwaukee’s American Family Field, a record for the stadium. Last month, Wallen announced he was extending the tour through 2024 with 10 more U.S. shows.

#9. Luke Combs

World tour | no. of shows: 30, 2023 gross: $125 million | earnings: $55 million.

When tickets for Combs’ world tour went on sale last October, the 33-year-old country star instantly sold out 37 of the 39 dates. With an average ticket price of $97, Combs’ fans don’t have to break the bank to see him perform. After wrapping up the 17-country tour this month, he will hit the road again in April for Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old, a North American stadium tour.

#10. The Weeknd

After hours til dawn tour | no. of shows: 30, 2023 gross: $158 million | earnings: $55 million.

After riding out a delay because of the pandemic and bringing the tour to the United States last year, The Weeknd’s post-apocalyptic After Hours til Dawn tour kicked off its European leg in June. He played to 160,000 people over two nights at London Stadium, breaking the arena’s single- and two-night record, and broke the record for most tickets sold for a traditional concert at Wembley Stadium. The tour is currently in South America and will head to Oceania later this year.

A year of the Eras Tour: A look back at Taylor Swift's record-breaking show

tour this summer

One year ago, the crowd in Glendale, Arizona, erupted into a massive cheer in State Farm Stadium when Lesley Gore's "You Don't Own Me" began playing and the backdrop screen transitioned to a countdown clock starting at 2:24.

None of the Swifties who traveled from all over the state of Arizona and the nation, dressed to the nines as one of her 10 eras, knew the tour would be three-plus hours. The fan screaming next to me from Pennsylvania who bought a ticket on StubHub.com for about $400 didn't know that we would go era-by-era through a 44-song track list. I don't think the singer, herself, knew when she hid inside a cleaning cart wheeled backstage, that her show would lead to a billion-dollar enterprise, Time magazine person of the year and an inundation of friendship bracelets. I didn't know the behemoth success following the Eras Tour star would send me packing from Phoenix to Nashville, Tennessee, to become the inaugural Taylor Swift reporter.

Swift's dancers flowed onto the stage through fog with pink, purple and orange parachute flaps. A compilation of songs from Swift's 10 albums — or eras — played as "it's been a long time coming" boomed into the stadium. Goosebumps covered the arms of thousands and tears cascaded down cheeks as the flaps revealed Miss Americana rising to begin her "Lover" set.

Eighty three shows later, here's a look back at the unprecedented tour that set a Guinness World Record . And fair warning, like her tour this article is an extensive rollercoaster.

Swept up in the hype, the world became Taylor Nation. Glendale, "Erazona ," was renamed "Swift City." Las Vegas lit up its arches in all 10 era colors. Arlington, Texas, dubbed one of its streets "Taylor Swift Way." Tampa, Florida, gave Swift a key to the city and invited her to be an honorary mayor. Houston renamed its venue "NRG Stadium (Taylor’s Version)."

Nashville, Tennessee, dedicated a bench in Centennial Park to the hometown singer. A Philadelphia radio station, 96.5 FM (WTDY), renamed itself Ninety-Swift-Five W-T-A-Y. Gov. Philip D. Murphy dubbed the "Taylor Swift ham, egg and cheese sandwich" the "state sandwich of New Jersey." Chicago lit up the top of Willis Tower in her album colors. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey renamed his city "Swiftie-apolis," and Santa Clara, California, Mayor Lisa Gillmor switched the city's name to "Swiftie Clara."

Internationally, fans in Brazil caught the attention of Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes and Father Omar, the rector of the Christ the Redeemer Sanctuary, who arranged to project a  "Junior Jewels" inspired T-shirt  onto the Christ the Redeemer statue. Flinders Station in Melbourne , Australia, flashed a wallpaper glaze of lights to welcome the Eras star. Singapore painted the Marina Bay Sands Resort all colors of vibrant lights.

It's a cruel summer with you

All four seasons met the fifteen dancers, four backup singers, six bandmates and hundreds of production and crew members, adding unpredictable weather to the mix. Mother Nature danced in a lightning storm to "Fearless" in Tampa and made the song "Midnight Rain" a reality in Nashville . Rain poured through the open-roofed stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, where Swift pushed puddles forming on her piano . The Swiftie fandom created its own natural phenomenon in Seattle after a seismologist registered a 2.3 magnitude earthquake on her Richter scale.

The intense heat in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, caused Swift to throw water bottles to fans and temporarily halt her show. Ana Clara Benevides Machado, 23, passed out and died of heat exhaustion. The heartbreaking news prompted changes at the Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos to allow fans access to water. Swift invited Benevides' family to her concert in São Paulo.

I want you to think of the memories made

Swift incorporated custom messages into each tour stop. At her international destinations, she welcomed fans in their custom languages. "Bienvenidos al Eras Tour," she said in Mexico City before hoisting her hands in the air. While donning either her pink or blue guitar before the title track of "Lover," she commonly announced the stadium attendance often record-breaking.

Outside of stadiums, thousands "Taylorgated," or showed up without a ticket to hear Swift's beats and dance on the concrete. Tens of thousands more logged on to watch livestreams from fans with tickets who agreed to spend concert time holding up their mobile devices in a tricep-burning position.

The number of viewers would jump before the "Champagne Problems" speech and acoustic set. To keep things fun and interesting each night, fans filled out "Swiftball" ballots guessing the singer's outfits from four "Lover" bodysuits and accompanying "The Man" jackets, three "Fearless" dresses, two "Evermore" dresses, six "Speak Now" gowns, three bedazzled "22" shirts, five "Folkore" dresses, four "1989" crop top and skirt combos, six "Midnights" T-shirt dresses, three "Midnight Rain" body suits and four "Karma" faux fur jackets. To see how many times the Eras star wore each outfit, check out the "Data Swiftie."

For fans who wanted to get alerts to watch the shows without having to calculate time changes, Swift Alert became the app for that .

Double clap, audience chants

A secret language formed between fans and Swift as new traditions popped up along the tour. The four lines fans screamed at the top of their lungs, no matter the city or country, were "cause shade never made anybody less gay" in "You Need To Calm Down," "what a shame she's f----d in the head" in "Champagne Problems," "f--- the patriarchy" in "All Too Well (10 Minute Version)" and "don't call me kid, don't call me baby" in "Illicit Affairs."

Swift started every show strong with a very important question: Did her fans know the bridge to "Cruel Summer?" "Prove it!" she'd yell at some stops and the audience would, every single time, bellow, "I'm drunk in the back of the car." For "The Archer," fans printed and dispersed signs that read, "We will stay," to hold up when Swift asks, "Who would stay?"

In the "Fearless" era, fans double clapped with "13" drawn on the back of their hands in the middle of the bridge to "You Belong With Me." A trend of marriage proposals during "Love Story" picked up during the 2024 leg with partners popping the question as Swift sang, "He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring."

During "Marjorie," Swifties turned their phone flashlights on in tribute to Swift's grandma. Fans started timing the standing ovation and ear-shattering applause after "Champagne Problems." Livestreamers, like Tess Bohne , would display a clock and fans guessed if the cheers would surpass one, two or three minutes.

A snake shape slithered through the light-up braceklets handed out before the show at the start of the "Reputation" era. Fans yelled "1, 2, 3, let's go b----" before the first verse of "Delicate" as Swift counts on her fingers. Later in the song, Swift sings, "Do the girls back home touch you like I do?" and fans reply, "No, they don't." On rare occasion, Swift would let out a three-note riff during her "Don't Blame Me" belt.

After rereleasing her third album, the "Speak Now" singer added "Long Live" to the set list, bringing the total to 45 tracks. In the first verse when she croons "the crowds and stands went wild," the crowd indeed went wild.

In the "Red" era, Swift crowned a deserving fan with a black fedora during "22." They were typically children, but one adult Swiftie was crowned in Melbourne . Dancer Kameron Saunders had the only speaking line on the tour besides Swift during her song "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together." He said "like ever" at the American shows, but when the tour went international, he switched up the phrase each night. And yes, we track that. Swift knew all too well each crowd had "10 minutes to spare," and she played her longest song, in total, for about 14 hours.

She was only tied to the "Invisible String" for five shows and traded the opening "Folklore" era number to "The 1" in Arlington, before news of her split from actor Joe Alwyn . She brought "Invisible String" back for one night in Nashville because the Tennessee capital is home to Centennial Park. Nashvillians also noticed that Swift switched a note during "The 1" lyric "you meet a woman on the internet and take her home." She kept the key change for every succeeding show.

Right before the first lyric of "Style" during the "1989" set, fans began a tradition of saying, "What time is it?" to which the singer replied, "Midnight, you come and pick me up." In Sydney, Australia, a "Blank Space" chant from the 1989 World Tour was reborn and repeated in Singapore. Taylor Nation, Swift's marketing team, tweeted that it hopes fans at every tour stop going forward shout their city. In Philadelphia, a "Bad Blood" remix originated when Swift noticed a security guard hassling a fan . "She's fine. She wasn't doing anything. Hey! Stop! Hey, stop!" became the cool thing to say after, "It's so sad to think about the good times, you and I." Fans also incorporated a Kendrick Lamar line from the "Bad Blood" remix: "You forgive, you forget, but you never let it go."

And then came the surprise set . (More on her collaborators and announcements below.) Each night, Swift performed one song on the guitar and one on the piano that she hadn't yet performed on the tour. That is until 2024, when she added mashups and threw out her rule of never repeating songs. At the end of the set, she swan dives into a hole in the stage. Fans later caught a red light that turned green to signal it was safe to jump.

After meeting her at "Midnights," fans sang Jack Antonoff's version of "Anti-Hero." When Swift sings "tale as old as time," the crowd chimes in, "Taylor, you'll be fine." Tyler Conroy made a viral video of him screaming , "Where you going Taylor?" during "Bejeweled" before she sings, "I'm going out tonight," and the trend caught on like a blaze ripping through the Lover house. Finally, after Swift changed the lyrics to, "Karma is the guy on the Chiefs," in Argentina with her boyfriend Travis Kelce in the crowd, that became the standard for fans. She has only sang it that way four times, when he was in attendance in Buenos Aires, Sydney and Singapore.

If you would direct your attention to the back screen

In addition to boosting economies everywhere she went, Swift created an abundance of news. She announced "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)" in Nashville. She announced a new version of "Midnights" and premiered the "Karma (Remix)" music video featuring Ice Spice as the upstart rapper joined Swift in East Rutherford, New Jersey. She released "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)" right before her Kansas City, Missouri, stop and then debuted the "I Can See You" music video starring Taylor Lautner and Joey King who were at the show. Lautner backflipped on the catwalk.

It might have seemed strange that Swift ended the American leg of her tour on a Wednesday in Los Angeles, but not to the eagle-eyed Swiftie who realized the date was 8/9. That's the day she announced the rerecording of her fifth album, "1989 (Taylor's Version)." The album came out during her break before her Argentina tour dates. It topped the Billboard charts and allowed her to bypass Elvis for the most weeks with an album at No. 1.

Then, she announced her 11th album, "The Tortured Poets Department," at the Grammys after winning her 13th career award. At her tour stops in Melbourne, Sydney and Singapore, she revealed there were four total versions of "Tortured Poets" and told fans they would get a different bonus track on each one : "The Manuscript," "The Bolter," "The Albatross" and "The Black Dog."

Welcome to the acoustic set

One of the most anticipated portions of an Eras Tour show is the acoustic set. At most of the concerts, she only spoke before the guitar song. In rare instances, she tested the microphone before the piano song and made an announcement.

Occasionally she invited collaborators to join her onstage. Marcus Mumford surprised fans in Las Vegas to play "Cowboy Like Me." Her co-producer and close friend Aaron Dessner from The National joined her six times on stage, in Tampa (twice), Nashville, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and Santa Clara. Jack Antonoff came out to play "Getaway Car" in New Jersey. Maren Morris did a "You All Over Me" duet in Chicago. When their opening acts were canceled for weather, Gracie Abrams performed "I Miss You, I'm Sorry" and Sabrina Carpenter sang a dyad mashup of "White Horse" and "Coney Island."

Some of the surprise songs came with hidden messages. Fans speculated she sang "Bigger Than The Whole Sky" as an ode to a fan who died , "End Game" to Travis Kelce watching her show from the VIP tent and "Gold Rush" as a congratulations to Jason Kelce for retiring. She has performed "You're On Your Own Kid" five times, in Tampa, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Tokyo and Singapore.

And he never thinks of me, except when I'm on TV

To close out the first year of the Eras Tour, Swift released the third film version of her concert to streaming service Disney+. This version included "Cardigan" and four acoustic songs: "Maroon," "Death By A Thousand Cuts," "You Are In Love" and "I Can See You."

The second version came out on Swift's birthday, Dec. 13. Fans could rent it for 48 hours at a price of $19.89, and it included "The Archer," "Wildest Dreams" and "Long Live" cut from the original movie.

The original movie was released Oct. 13, in the middle of the Hollywood strikes. Swift did what studios and streaming services were unable to: make a deal with SAG-AFTRA. She worked with the unions and was able to market and show her movie how she saw fit. The film made more than $250 million globally and got her nominated for a Golden Globe award .

Would you be interested in one more song?

If you're still with me on this walk down Eras Tour Lane, it's important to make one final note before the tour resumes in Paris in May. Before her magnum opus took off higher than the "Bad Blood" flames, Swift chose "Mirrorball" and "Tim McGraw" to be her very first surprise songs. She ended year one with the same two songs, but flipped the instruments she played them on in a full-circle moment.

Her new album will come out April 19 and the full Eras Tour is streaming on Disney+, which begs the question: What her show will look like come Paris? She has a two-month break before 69 shows scheduled for Europe and North America. She also has two rerecords left to release: "Reputation (Taylor's Version)" and her self-titled debut album.

If there's one thing any Swiftie knows, it's Taylor Swift's ability to make news and create lasting memories through her record-shattering tour. What a first year; on to year two!

The Gaslight Anthem announce major US summer tour, new EP with Billie Eilish cover

by JACKSON SINNENBERG | The National Desk

WASHINGTON (TND) — New Jersey rock ambassadors The Gaslight Anthem may be bringing the sounds of the shore to a town near you this summer.

The beloved rock band, which reformed in 2022 after a seven-year indefinite hiatus, announced a cross-country U.S. tour Monday that will take them from the Rocky Mountains to the West Coast to the South to the East Coast.

The group will also be showcasing some new music, and some new old music, as it releases its first EP in 12 years, "History Books - Short Stories," a follow up to its 2023 album which will feature a cover of the Billie Eilish song "Ocean Eyes."

"I had been listening to this Billie Eilish song my daughter showed me on the way to school one morning called 'Ocean Eyes' and I thought, 'hey that would be a great song for The Gaslight Anthem to cover'," frontman Brian Fallon said in a statement released Monday.

In a throwback to the group's first EP, "Señor and the Queen," the Gaslight Anthem also reworked one of its popular crowd sing-alongs, "Blue Jeans and White T-Shirts," which features references to locations in Asbury Park, N.J., with new, more contemporary references.

"We had been messing with some of the location names to be more current - seems like real estate on Cookman Ave [sic.] is all office buildings and condos for very very rich people, maybe not the neighbors for me," Fallon also said. "So, we updated a few choice Jersey locations - not to replace the old version, just more of a current look."

The shows include the following dates and venues:

  • July 26 at The Mission Ballroom in Denver, Colo.
  • July 27 at The Union in Salt Lake City, Utah
  • July 28 at Revolution Concert House in Boise, Idaho
  • July 30 at Showbox SoDo in Seattle, Wash.
