Game of Thrones Tour: Dressing up in cloaks and replica weapons!

  • See the famous Game of Thrones locations that featured in series 1 to 7 on a fully guided tour from Belfast.
  • Enjoy an immersive experience, with cloaks, replica weapons and flying Stark flags
  • Learn about the making of Game of Thrones from your tour guide who has appeared in the show!
  • Start the day with a visit to Inch Abbey, where King Robb ‘The young wolf’ was crowned ‘The King in the North’
  • See Tollymore Forest which was used extensively as a filming location in Game of Thrones
  • Enjoy lunch at a traditional Irish pub (lunch not included in price)
  • Meet the real Direwolves! You’ll meet the dogs Odin and Thor who played the Starks’ Direwolf pups
  • Visit Castle Ward Estate which was used as the location for Winterfell

The first stop on our Game of Thrones Winterfell Tour from Belfast is to Inch Abbey. This is the spot where the phrase “King in the North!” was declared after Houses of the North and the Riverlands swear allegiance to Robb Stark. This comes following victory at the Battle of the Whispering Wood.

Inch Abbey was founded in the 12th Century, and we will see the ruins as well as admire the stunning view of the River Quoile.

Tollymore forest

winterfell tours belfast

Tollymore Forest

Tollymore Forest has featured as an important location in many different scenes. Our tour includes a 3km walk through the forest. You’ll get to see the bridge where the Starks discover a dead direwolf and her pups, where Wills finds the dismembered bodies in the snow and Jon and Tyrion’s tree, where they discuss life at the Wall.

Following the visit to Tollymore Forest, the tour continues for lunch at a traditional Irish pub. There is a variety of quality Irish themed dishes. Please note that lunch is not included in the tour price.

Spend the afternoon of our Game of Thrones tour from Belfast at Winterfell. In real-life, Winterfell is located at Castle Ward, and 18th Century mansion and estate. Over 10 Game of Thrones filming locations were created from this spot. This includes the gateway to Winterfell’s courtyard, Whispering Wood, Robb Stark’s Camp, the Baelor battle and when Brienne confronts the Stark men. Hundreds of actors and crew worked on key scenes over the years at Winterfell.

Meet the Real Direwolves

winterfell tours belfast

Meet the real Direwolves

In the opening scenes of the pilot episode of Game of Thrones, the five Stark children each adopt a Direwolf puppy. In the making of the show, the production team used real Northern Inuit Dogs that look very similar to wolves!

You’ll get to meet two of these dogs called Odin and Thor as part of our Game of Thrones Winterfell tour from Belfast. These dogs starred as Summer & Grey Wind and you’ll get to have your picture taken with them!

We wouldn’t have recognised any sites just walking around the city, you needed a guide (Janice) to point them out then show you a shot from the show. Janice was extremely knowledgeable and shared many interesting facts and stories. It was also a great way to get our bearings of Belfast as it was our first visit here. • N7563ULdeborahs 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Fascinating walk round Belfast; essential for all line of duty fans. Fabulous 2 hour walk round the city centre visiting iconic locations for Line of Duty scenes. We visited the HQ of AC12, police HQ, Jo's flat, various bars and cafes, the site of the ambush, the subway, and much more. Janice was very interesting and well informed, the laminated stills helped to contextualise the locations and the tour was really enjoyable. Highly recommended. Read more Written November 13, 2023
  • JoanneI_13 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Game of Thrones locations rather than tour A lovely trip around fantastic locations. But not actually a “Game of Thrones tour”. The GoT element was limited to telling us which episodes the locations appeared in. The driver told us several times that this is a post-Covid combined GoT and Giants Causeway trip so it no longer includes the GoT theming but this information was not clear from the website or reflected in the photos. Disappointing. Read more Written September 20, 2023

  • lauragZ5 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles A Must For Any Line of Duty Fan Thoroughly enjoyed this walking tour of Belfast to see locations used in the TV series Line of Duty. I did this tour on my first day in the city so when I passed key sites on the following days it made me smile to know what scenes they were used in. On my particular tour was the guide (Lizzie) and a couple from Glasgow in Scotland, so it felt alot more personal with there only being four of us for the full two hours. Lizzie also threw in some general Belfast tour information while we were walking the streets, which I greatly appreciated having never visited before. My favourite stop (and I'm sure for many) was the iconic subway. Hold in there as it's the last stop on the tour. I passed it again the next day and took a couple of photos. I did this tour on a Sunday afternoon in March 2023. It rained off and on but wasn't too cold. I would recommend wearing sensible footwear and clothing for the occasion. Carole our tour guide did a super job of reminding us of iconic scenes from series 2 onwards which were filmed in the city. Photos of the actors in location across the city provided context which with Carole's energy and enthusiasm brought the tour to life. We had an amazing afternoon (despite the snow and the rain) - thank you Carole Read more Written March 12, 2023

He has a good sense of humour and I enjoyed the anecdotes It was relaxing as he didn’t try to fill every minute with information overload. Giving us time to ask questions I am really glad to have gone on this tour. Well worth the money and time spent. Read more Written November 20, 2022
  • laurencX6866HQ 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Best tour ever! We were bought the tour as a a wedding present and as avid game of thrones fans, we were very excited to go and see more of the filming locations & more of beautiful Ireland. Our tour guide Stuart did not disappoint! He was so knowledgeable and made the tour what it was. He had a great sense of humour and was always on hand to help. We also made friends with two other couples on the tour which was great, and they too felt it was an amazing experience. Can not recommend this tour enough to anyone looking to experience more of beautiful Northern Ireland whilst staying in Belfast. Read more Written November 5, 2022
  • E8143ZOdavidm 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Fascinating walking tour of Belfast Our tour guide Janice was very knowledgeable about the Line of Duty plot lines and characters and made the tour very interesting. Apart from the main theme of LOD the tour also showed us lots of hidden corners of Belfast that we had never seen before and didn't know existed. Be aware that the tour finishes in a different location (the Albert Clock) from where it starts (opposite the Opera House) so, if you are parking a car, you may want to pick a car park in a compromise location. We had parked at the Great Northern so we had a bit of a trek back after the tour. Read more Written October 4, 2022
  • SUSANDP1955 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles A very full day around Game of Thrones locations and the Causeway After a very informal, slightly chaotic start to the day, at Irish Tours Ticket Office, on the morning of the half-Marathon, which meant some road closures and uncertainty about being able to get a taxi. (no warning from the Tour Office when I rang the day before) As we got started, the tour got better, thanks to Troy, our driver, and his excellent driving skills and good chat. The highlight of all the highlights of the day was the guided walk around the Giant's Causeway. The locations were fascinating with some funny and some informative banter from our driver, Troy. There was a stop for an optional cooked lunch that was served quickly and hot, in a slightly dingy pub/restaurant, excellent value for money. My adult son had his first actual Irish Guinness. Disappointing to not have the Game of Thrones expert that was promised and disconcerting to get the receipt from City Sightseeing for £33 less than I had paid Brit Movie Tours for the Game of Thrones and Giant's Causeway tour. • Gerry K 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Giants causeway is great but this tour operator falsely promised 90 minutes at Carrick-A-Rede Rope Bridge. Same as several other people this tour is not advertised correctly. I paid extra because I want the itinerary advertised. We should have spent 90 minutes at the Carrick-A-Rede Rope Bridge instead we were brought to Bushmills which did not do anything for me and was not interested in this part of the tour. I think this kind of false advertising is a really bad show. The bus driver and guide were good but the tour organisers know that they are misleading their potential customers. If the rope bridge is important to you, book with someone else. Read more Written September 6, 2022

  • mazouniz 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Amazing Game of Thrones tour. I went to this experience twice because i really loved the natural landmarks and Game of Thrones locations but the program is not correct, Carrick-A-Rede Rope Bridge is not included as it is somehow closed for coaches and accessible only by car. Anyway, the second time we visited 6 places but only 3 of them are in Game of thrones. In general, the landmarks we visited are amazing, especially The Giant's Causeway.
