The Hop-On-Off bus was an easy and affordable way to see the city. The staff were approachable and helpful.

Great tour of the city!

We can't rate this tour - the bus was an hour later than the scheduled time at our stop.

We were late for the 10:15am tour. But went on the 2:15pm one. The name of the bus company is nowhere to be found in Larcomar Shopping Center. The Information Center had not heard the To ur Company on the voucher. He called the contact number on the voucher, but was not correct. He said it was missing numbers. The Panoramic City Tour took us from Miraflores to Barrancos, San Isidro and the colonial part of the city. Traffic was horrendous. The city has 11,000.00 people. It seemed that everyone was out. The views were foggy. They claim is a natural phenomenon called La Nina. We believe is pollutWe visited the Plaza de Armas and looked at a few old colonial building that are both government offices and also privately owned. We visited the Monastery of the Franciscans and its Catacombs. Its still the home of Franciscans. Unfortunately, is in a state of disrepair. The library is abandoned. Precious religious books are going to be lost soon. No patrons are helping these priests to preserve anything. Tour Guides were speaking English and Spanish only. There were no headsets, no circuit map of route. The bus was yellow and the name is Turibus. The bus is a bit tired. This is the worst Hop On Hop Off I have been on.

This is a wonderful way to see the sites. The buses were clean and inviting. The staff made certain you new where to get off and back on. The commentary along the way was very informative. For anyone with only a day to visit this city we would recommend the hop on hop off.

We found the actual tour on the bus to be great. It gave us a really good idea of what Santiago offered and actually got quite close to so many sites of interest. I'm always amazed at how these drivers manage to drive through the narrow streets with all the pedestrians and traffic, but they really know what they're doing. We only had limited time until flight time so we decided just to ride the bus and not hop-off anywhere. disappointing as I would like to have got off and explored more of the city. We were told that to go all around would be two hours, yet it actually was longer than this due to traffic and stops. The guide on the bus was so good to keep track of us knowing we spoke only English. We did have some problem with finding the location at which to get the bracelet for the bus entrance. We went to Central Market, but didn't know that it was Mercado Central and that this market includes many different stalls/kiosks. With our very limited Spanish and the vendors in the market not knowing much English, we had a problem getting directions. We finally had an English speaking guide lead us to the Turistik location and we got our bracelet.

This is a great way to get your bearings in a new city. The service ran as promised, which is what you want. The rest is up to you.

"Booking is easy and quick, and their communication is excellent (before, during and after the tour). It really is like hanging out with friends.  The walking tour is an especially interesting and informative insight into Chile’s history and how this has shaped modern Chilean culture.  David was our host for the vineyard tour - probably the most informative I’ve been on (and I’ve done quite a few!) - he can explain everything from pruning to fermentation techniques - including the mechanics of the cooling systems in the vats." Th tour turned out to be a private tour. We were picked up from the hotel and toured around as scheduled. The hotels however had slow internet and limited breakfast options. But the driver Mauricio was great and tour guides Bernardo and Joe were very knowledgeable and helpful. Transfers were worth the trouble, since Santiago is 1.5 hours away from San Antonio and Valparaiso.

I received prompt communication from the host throughout the tour, and they were helpful with processing refunds for missed tours, etc. I had a great experience with this tour, the excursions were well chosen! A few things to note is that the Penguin tours can be cancelled due to weather (ours was) and on the guided Torres Del Paine hike the guide has full discretion on whether they will allow you to finish the hike. For our group they forced us to turn back, due to deeming our group unfit to finish, meaning we didn't get to finish the hike (the hike itself was decently challenging but pretty standard compared to other popular hikes in parks like Yosemite, Banff, etc)

"Elsbeth" star Carrie Preston discusses new show on Tea Around Town tour of New York City

By Kristie Keleshian

April 4, 2024 / 7:33 PM EDT / CBS New York

NEW YORK -- The new CBS original series "Elsbeth," starring Carrie Preston, returns Thursday night.

CBS New York's Kristie Keleshian took a Tea Around Town bus tour of New York City with Preston to talk about the show.

The star plays attorney-turned-sharp detective Elsbeth Tascioni, who first appeared on "The Good Wife" and "The Good Fight."

"Elsbeth is enamored of New York City. She couldn't wait to move here. She's the dream tourist. So we're on this tour bus, we're gonna go around and see all the great sights," Preston said.

In her spinoff series that debuted on Feb. 29 , Elsbeth leaves her successful legal career in Chicago for investigative work alongside the NYPD. Through her quirkiness and outlandish observations, she gets the job done better than anyone else.

"Sometimes it feels like shows have gotten an over-inflated sense of self," said Robert King, "Elsbeth" co-creator and executive producer.

"That is what it's meant to be, a bit of a respite for the ugliness that one sometimes sees in the world and in the news, and this is a character having fun and finding justice," said Michelle King, "Elsbeth" co-creator and executive producer.

Michelle and Robert King and producer and showrunner Jonathan Tolins joined in on the ride around New York City landmarks, just as newcomer Elsbeth does in the series.

"She just goes a little bit further and actually speaks the truth around, in this case, New Yorkers who ... could use to have their balloon popped every once in a while," Tolins said.

Elsbeth is an unconventionally sharp leading lady in a show that's a love letter to New York City itself, leaving viewers with a mystery solved and a good laugh.

"People are experiencing a lot of challenges in the world that we live in right now, and I think when people tune into our show, they'll be able to let go of those things," Preston said.

"Elsbeth" returns Thursday with back-to-back episodes at 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. on CBS.

Keegan-Michael Key, Blair Underwood and Jesse Tyler Ferguson are just some of the guest stars featured in upcoming episodes.

"Elsbeth" is also streaming on Paramount+.

Lehigh Launch Chile Accepting Applications for Fall 2024 Cohort

Applications for the experiential, integrative learning experience will be accepted on a space-available basis until May.

After two years of success in Ecuador, the Lehigh Launch program will be moving to Chile next year, and faculty director Hugo Ceron-Anaya believes it will offer participating students a truly unique and enriching experience.

“I sincerely think that it will be a fantastic opportunity for the students,” said Ceron-Anaya, an associate professor of sociology at Lehigh, whose research expertise lies in Latin America. “We’re going to have a great set of courses, and we’ll be based in Santiago, a city that has a lot to offer for students that they’ll be really interested in and enjoy, from arts to sports to food.”

Lehigh Launch is an experiential, integrative learning experience for first-year Lehigh University students of any major. High school students and families interested in applying or seeking more information can visit the Lehigh Launch website . The Fall 2024 cohort is still accepting applications on a space-available basis until May.

“It’s incredibly rewarding to start getting to know these students when they are seniors in high school and then to witness all the personal and academic growth they experience before they even arrive on the Lehigh campus for the spring semester,” said Katy Rene, assistant director of Study Abroad at Lehigh.

“I have also been so impressed by all the ways our program alumni are getting involved and pursuing additional international, research and co-curricular activities offered by the university,” Rene said.

Engaging Courses and Trips

Ceron-Anaya has several trips and visits planned for Lehigh Launch Chile, including one to the beautiful Chiloé Island, which includes the Chiloé National Park and the Tantauco Park nature reserve. Inhabited by indigenous communities for the last roughly 600 years, the students will speak to local communities about how they reconcile tourism with nature.

He also plans to visit La Serena, the capital city of Chile’s Coquimbo Region, which is particularly well known for its beaches. It is also one of the sites where Charles Darwin stopped during his South American scientific expedition, due to the wide variety of ecosystems found there, Ceron-Anaya said.

In Chile, Ceron-Anaya plans to teach one of his most popular Lehigh courses: “Race and Ethnicity in the Americas,” which takes a comparative approach to looking at Latin America and the U.S. and how each side of the continent develops their racial and ethnic ideas.

Santiago has so much to offer the students. There is so much to do for anyone interested in art, music, food, or just walking around the city.

Faculty director Hugo Ceron-Anaya

He also plans to offer a new course called “Utopias in the Current World,” which will delve into contemporary efforts to create better and more harmonious societies by drawing on past attempts to create utopian societies.

“I decided to go against all the messages in popular culture about the dystopian futures you see on shows at places like Netflix and Prime,” Ceron-Anaya said. “I want the students to think about a future that is not a misery for everybody, a future that is very different from what popular culture feeds us these days.”

A Walkable City

As part of that course, the students will visit the Mamalluca Observatory, a complex of astronomical telescopes and instruments near La Serena. The observatory fits into Ceron-Anaya’s class about utopias, he said, because it will help students think about the role science and technology plays in creating a positive future for everybody.

Lehigh Launch Chile participants will be staying in different locations across three adjacent neighborhoods in Santiago, the country’s capital city. The areas include parks, museums, markets, athletic fields, musical complexes, and a wide variety of cafes and small restaurants, Ceron-Anaya said. The city is also very walkable and bicycle-friendly.

“Santiago has so much to offer the students,” Ceron-Anaya said. “There is so much to do for anyone interested in art, music, food, or just walking around the city."

Ceron-Anaya expects Lehigh Launch Chile participants to spend a lot of time visiting Santiago museums, and he will be inviting artists and writers to speak to the students, particularly about economic issues, education, and what a utopian future could look like.

‘A Sophistication About the World’

It’s also easy to visit other countries and places from Santiago, Ceron-Anaya said. It’s very affordable to travel to nearby Argentina, for example, and bus services are available to the Andes mountain range.

Having been offered in Ecuador for the past two years, Lehigh Launch Chile will continue Lehigh’s long tradition of engagement with Latin American countries and scholars that date back to the earliest years of the university. Ceron-Anaya previously said he considers it important to keep this program in Latin America because it offers students a wide range of learning opportunities.

“Latin American studies will help our students develop a sophistication about the world in a different way than they will find in European countries,” he said. “In the cases of Ecuador and Chile, they’re going to find developing nations, with all the sort of problems that come with that, whether it’s issues of poverty, immigration, business, or ecology.”

Lehigh Launch Chile is the sister program to Lehigh Launch American West, which began in 2020 and features programs in the Rocky Mountains and field-based learning in Wyoming and New Mexico. Applications for Lehigh Launch American West is currently accepting applications for the Fall.
