Frequently asked questions

Does the app require an internet connection?

bon voyage by marriott

Yes, the app requires either a telecommunications network or wireless internet connection because it uses current data for most of its functions.

Is my device compatible with the Marriott Bonvoy App?

The app is supported by the following devices:

  • Requires Android 9 and up
  • Requires iOS 14.0 or later

How do I get the app?

Go to the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store from your mobile device or tablet and download the Marriott Bonvoy App. It’s free to download and is available in 11 languages — English, Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, and Spanish — with more on the way.

Do I need to be a Marriott Bonvoy member to use the app?

No, you don’t need to be a member to use the app. You can still search and book, look up existing reservations, and access booking offers. However, members who book directly with us get access to member exclusive rates and promotions, more enhanced features like Mobile Check-In and Mobile Key, along with being able to track points and manage your entire account.

What’s the difference between booking on Marriott.com and booking on the app?

Both the app and Marriott.com link into the same booking engine, so there is virtually no difference between the two. Beyond booking a stay, the Marriott Bonvoy App gives you access to our suite of Mobile Guest Services—Mobile Check-In, Mobile Key, Mobile Chat and Requests, and Mobile Dining—all from the palm of your hand, throughout your entire trip.

Can I join Marriott Bonvoy from the app?

Yes, you can become a Marriott Bonvoy member directly from the app. You can easily sign in or join from the Home, Trips, and Accounts screens. If you have an existing reservation, you can use our look up feature to add the stay to your profile and become a member at the same time.

What should I do if I’m having a problem with the app?

If the app is crashing or experiencing issues, first try signing out of your account and then signing back in. If this doesn’t resolve the issue, please check the Apple App Store or Google Play Store to ensure you have the latest release. If you’re still having issues, please email us at [email protected] and a customer care agent will respond as soon as possible.

Why aren’t my upcoming reservations showing?

If your member number is not on the reservation, it will not display in your upcoming reservations. If your reservations don’t display, please contact us.

Why can’t I clear or view my notifications?

You can get notifications about Mobile Check-In, Mobile Check-Out, room ready info or surveys. They’re time sensitive, so if action isn’t taken within a certain amount of time, the notification will no longer be available. Some notifications, like surveys, may require you to be signed into the app before selecting the notification from your phone. If nothing comes forward, the notifications have expired and are no longer accessible.

I started a reservation the other day; why can’t I find it now?

During the reservation process, when you select a specific room and rate, that selection is put on hold for a limited time. If you leave the app and finish the booking later, you might be prompted to start over because the hold has expired.

How will I be able to access my reservations in the Marriott Bonvoy App?

To access your reservations in the app, log in to the app using your Marriott Bonvoy account credentials. Click on the “Trips” tab in the bottom navigation and your reservation should appear there (provided you entered your member number at the time of booking). If you forgot to enter your member number at the time of booking (or you recently joined Marriott Bonvoy) use the “Find My Reservation” feature and “add to profile.”

How do I check in to my room?

When you book direct using your Marriott Bonvoy member number, you should receive a check-in notification prompt as early as 48 hours before you arrive (provided you have notifications turned on). To use Mobile Check-In, open the app, then select “check in” and then set your estimated arrival time and confirm the check-in by hitting the button on the bottom of the screen. You can request an arrival time as late as midnight on your day of arrival. Please allow the hotel a two-hour window after you submit your request. Requests for check-in prior to the hotel’s standard arrival time can’t be guaranteed.

What if I need to change my arrival time after I’ve already used Mobile Check-In?

To change your check-in time, tap “Change Arrival Time” and then enter the new time (you can also change your check-in time from your list of upcoming reservations). To complete either of these actions, tap “Done.”

How do I check out of my room?

To check out using your phone, first open your reservation. The option to use Mobile Check-Out will appear as early as 8 a.m. on the last day of your stay, along with an option to have a receipt sent to you. Once you complete the check-out process on your device, the hotel will be notified that you have left your room. Leave your key cards in the room or drop them off at the front desk. There’s nothing else you need to do—you’re all set.

Can I make changes to my existing reservation in the app?

Yes, you can control your entire reservation with the app, including making changes to and canceling an existing reservation.

Will my hotel bill or receipt be available in the app?

Once your stay is complete, your folio—which outlines the charges related to your stay—will be made available in the app up to 72 hours after your stay (for participating hotels). From there you can download it or easily share it, if needed.

How soon can I see my points added to my account?

For participating hotels and qualifying events, it may take up to 72 hours after your stay for your points to be visible in the app. For more information regarding earning points and participation, please refer to the Marriott Bonvoy Terms and Conditions.

How do I use Mobile Key?

Once your key has been sent to you digitally by the front desk, you will see the Mobile Key icon appear in the app. Make sure your Bluetooth is on, select the Mobile Key icon to bring up the “Unlock room” screen. Tap the key icon in the middle of the screen and place your phone to the lock on the door. When the phone screen turns green, the door is unlocked! With Mobile Key you can also access secure guest areas of the hotel, like the fitness center, pool, lounge, and parking garage.

Can more than one person have Mobile Key for a room?

Your Mobile Key is tied to your Marriott Bonvoy member number, so we’re only able to offer one Mobile Key per room at this time.

How do I opt in to Mobile Key? Can I get Mobile Key at any time during my stay?

You will have the option to opt in to Mobile Key on the Mobile Check-In screen up to 48 hours before your stay. You can request your Mobile Key in the app on the Today screen anytime during your trip.

What if my phone dies and I only have Mobile Key?

You can have both a plastic key card and Mobile Key at the same time, so if your phone dies, feel free to stop by the front desk and have them activate a key card for you.

When do I use Mobile Chat versus Mobile Requests? What’s the difference?

Mobile Chat is an open format conversation, similar to having a text message conversation with the front desk associate. Mobile Requests allows you to select from a menu of complimentary amenities commonly requested at the hotel. Both Mobile Chat and Mobile Requests are available up to 24 hours before your stay and both are available 24/7 during your stay. Delivery times for requests may vary.

St. Regis Maldives Redemption

The Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program  is one of the most popular, if not the most popular hotel loyalty program in the world. It is part of the “Big 4,” which includes Hilton Honors , World of Hyatt , and IHG One Rewards .

Marriott dropped its award chart in favor of dynamic pricing in March 2022. This means you’ll find variable rates depending on demand. While this can be beneficial during off-peak periods, it also means you’ll pay significantly more points per night during peak demand.

You can also redeem Cash + Points for your stay, in addition to promotions such as PointSavers .

  • Dedication to craft — to craft experiences rooted in unique moments of passion and skill
  • Sense of place — to connect you to local surroundings and become a part of the locality’s fabric.

As you can tell, no 2 Autograph Collection properties are the same, which means that your experience at each hotel will be unique and curated. Ratings and Reviews

Would be great if hotels actually honored half of the features.

Marriott Corp has tried to make a good app - but problem comes to the fact little to none of the hotels use the pre-order functionality to stock your room, they don’t use the chat function if you need something while at hotel, they do not honor the checking or late checkout out function (they don’t care and still need to use old school process to know if they can accept a late checkout). App does not notify you of a room ready early either - as the hotels don’t use the feature. App is good to book and change hotels if needed - to change a reservation you are better off cancelling and rebooking as app is not flexible on honoring changes. Basically the app is good to track Marriott points and the progress each year to make Reward levels (not a perk for me as I’m lifetime Platinum member). So being lifetime Platinum you would think Marriott would listen to their customers and force their Marriott properties to use the features in the app - or do away with the features all together. FYI - I’m also an Elite member with Hilton properties and guess what - their Hotel locations use the app and it actually works really well...

DON’T modify your reservation on the app!

Terrible tricky UI/UX. This coming from a UI/UX designer. I had 2 nights booked at the JW. I decided to look into adding a 3rd night. The app has a button that says ‘update’ after the date entry that you have to click just to see the new prices for the changed dates. The rooms show the updated price/night and also shows ‘total per room’ with another button next to each room type that also says ‘update’. So you would think, just like the first button that says ‘update’, that it would just lead to more info but NOPE - it actually just submits your change as final with no review. And worse yet, ‘total per room’ is not the final price. You don’t get to see that amount before your change is submitted unless you calculated resort fees on your own on the screen before. They’re tricky! They show ‘final TRIP total’ everywhere else in the app but here apparently. In the end I’ll end up paying more than double for my trip for just trying to add 1 night. I tried to call customer service and the lady was SO rude and can’t change it back even though she said all the history is in the same confirmation number. So if you want to add nights, just start another new reservation for those dates instead of modifying an existing one and save a few hundred. If this stay weren’t for a birthday kid, I’d cancel on this terrible experience all around!

Overall, Great App - Still Miss SPG!

Overall, this is a great app and even after the transition from SPG I think the app outshines. If I were rating the rewards program, I’d give SPG an A and the new program a B- But that’s not why I’m here - so I’m rating the app not Marriott, SPG or even the Bonvoy program. Overall, the app is very easy to use and like many Marriott properties it really depends on the property you are staying on how well it integrates with he app. In my experience, about 1/3 of my stays truly honor a mobile check-in where I get a mobile key without visiting the front desk, perhaps security perhaps individual hotel preference. I will say that all properties do use the chat feature which is great when I need to communicate a non-urgent issue or perhaps let the staff know about an issue in a room for the next gift. Mobile check-out is truly the best, it works almost all the time. Booking on the site is easy and straightforward. One of the best features that I like (might not be from the app) but how I get WiFi quickly since it remembers my device at every property. Overall, I think the app is well done, the rewards program is okay - still my brand of choice. Thanks Marriott!

Marriott’s Newly Unveiled Loyalty Program, Bonvoy, Replaces Marriott Rewards

The long-awaited rebranding finally brings marriott rewards, starwood preferred guest, and ritz-carlton rewards into one program. here’s what travelers should know about what’s changing—and what isn’t..

Marriott’s Newly Unveiled Loyalty Program, Bonvoy, Replaces Marriott Rewards

The Marriott Irvine Spectrum in Irvine, California, is among the hotels that are united by Marriott’s new Bonvoy program.

Bon voyage, Marriott Rewards! It was nice knowing you. Now that Marriott has introduced the new name of its loyalty program, Bonvoy , it’s time to dig deeper into what it offers for travelers. Bonvoy, which is free to join, integrates Marriott Rewards, Starwood Preferred Guest, and Ritz-Carlton Rewards into one program. The hotel company merger was first announced in late 2015, but it has taken some time to fully integrate the program benefits and systems. Last August, the programs aligned many of their benefits while still maintaining three individual names.

Bonvoy will merge some of the best benefits into one integrated program when it officially launches February 13. This includes aligning perks for elite members , such as free breakfast and late check out, as well as using one points chart for award redemption for all hotels (Ritz-Carlton used to have its own award chart).

What’s changing under Bonvoy

Under the new program , some of the elite status tiers will be changing to better define the perks that members can expect. Silver, Gold, and Platinum Elite tiers will continue with the same names as before, but two new tiers have been introduced. Platinum Premier Elite will be recognized as Titanium Elite in the new program. Platinum Premier Elite with Ambassador will be part of the highest tier, now known as Ambassador Elite.

Titanium Elite is awarded to travelers who stay at least 75 nights per year, while Ambassador Elite is earned by staying at least 100 nights in Marriott properties, with at least $20,000 in qualifying spend. That top status comes with personal “ambassadors” who can help with reservations and fulfill special requests when you travel.

If you were a fan of redeeming your points for experiences through Marriott Rewards Moments and SPG Moments, that program will continue under the name Marriott Bonvoy Moments. These include unique events that you can bid on using points, like backstage passes to popular musical concerts, VIP access to the Super Bowl, or master classes with celebrity chefs.

What’s staying the same

With the launch of the new program, there is nothing you need to do if you already were a member. Your Marriott Rewards number will remain the same, although it will now be your Bonvoy number. If you had a Marriott Rewards account and a Starwood Preferred Guest account, it’s worth logging on to make sure your memberships are merged.

There are no changes planned to the way the program works, and on February 13, the Marriott app will update with the new name and branding. Travelers will continue to earn and redeem points as they did before, and anyone who joins the program will receive free Wi-Fi when staying at any Marriott property.

A new name for the combined program is the final step in the merger of these three loyalty programs. Now, all you have to do is keep earning those points.

Everything You Need to Know About Marriott’s Voyage Program

September 11, 2023  — Morgan Gibson Kanner

marriott voyage program

For a college student who’s looking to build a hospitality career, Marriott’s Voyage Program is the gold standard. Scratch that — for a college student who’s looking to kickstart their post-grad career, regardless of industry, Marriott’s Voyage Program is platinum.

This isn’t an oversell, let me walk you through it.

Meet Max. Max is entering their senior year of college as a Comms major and has no idea what’s happening post-graduation. Max wants to enter the workforce, to find a full-time, grown-up job, but has no idea where to apply. Max likes working with people and is *really* good at solving programs — they know this from their beloved side gig of working as a restaurant server — but is unsure of how those skills translate in the “real world.”

Max has never considered hospitality as their full-time career (and between you and me, doesn’t even know that it’s a field of study), but at their college’s career fair runs into the Marriott table. A very enthusiastic and patient recruiter explains Voyage — a 12-month program for recent college grads that places them in one of hundreds of Marriott hotels around the country in a manager-level position with full pay and benefits, including paid relocation if they’re choosing to move away from home.

→ Marriott Is Coming to a Campus Near You! See Our Fall University Schedule

Max is intrigued — could this be the perfect first step in Max’s career? — and heads back to their apartment and applies for the program.

A mere 15-minutes later, Max gets an email prompt to complete the video interview portion. Still looking sharp from the career fair and feeling inspired, Max goes for it and records answers to questions like, “Why are you a fit for this role?” and clicks submit.

Now exhausted but psyched for what’s to come, Max calls it a night.

Over the next week, Max hears back from the same patient, enthusiastic recruiter — they made it to the next round! Per the recruiter’s instructions, Max sends their preferences for location (beach-adjacent, please!) and, department (F&B or Front Desk sound like a fit, given Max’s skillset). Then, Max gets prompted to complete a skills assessment. Taking advantage of schoolwork being light at the moment, Max finishes all the steps and gets back to the recruiter promptly, which seems to help things move pretty fast.

→ A Guide to the Voyage Application Process for the U.S. and Canada → Our Interview Advice & Tips for Hopeful Voyage Applicants

After that, the recruiter schedules a virtual interview for a few days later — thank goodness, because Max (an admitted hospitality newbie) needs time to research and prepare. Max has also never used Microsoft Teams before, so they practice a few times with their roommate to get the lighting and background just right.

That preparation pays off, and Max crushes the interview.

Just one week later… Max has an offer! The position: An F&B Voyager at a beach-adjacent hotel, just as requested! Wow, a real, full-time job at a Fortune 500 company with salary, benefits and full relocation support — Marriott is even introducing Max to other Voyagers in the new city for potential future roommates. Max accepts.

It’s only October and graduation isn’t until May — and Max already has an actual, grown-up job lined up. Life is good.

Jump forward a few years, and Max is the Director of Operations at a different hotel with even better beach views. Max has been promoted a handful of times, is very satisfied with their comp and benefits (especially being able to land cheap hotel rates with the Marriott associate travel discount ), adores the team culture, and has even been nominated for a corporate leadership development program by their boss. Life is good.

Max is a representation — an amalgamation, if you will — of the thousands of college students who have entered Marriott’s Voyage Program and built robust, successful careers as a result. In addition to being a shining light of opportunity for those with uncertain trajectories (cough cough, Max!), the Voyage Program also serves as the kick-start for students with laser-focused career paths:

  • Big dreams of becoming a luxury GM?
  • Passionate about finance but bored with banks ?
  • Hopes of a chef career with maximum stability ?

Okay, we’ve convinced you — the Marriott Voyage Program is the best. Now, to walk through all the nitty-gritty details like salary, benefits, eligibility and more, we tapped two experts for the U.S. and Canada Voyage Program:

  • Sarah D’Angelo, Director, Talent Acquisition + University Recruitment
  • Michael Wiszowaty, Senior Manager, University Relations + Recruiting

Let’s get through those FAQs. Keep in mind that these answers are specific to U.S. and Canada.

When did Marriott Voyage Program start? How long has it been around?

Sarah: Marriott has had a management training program for a long time and has been through many iterations. Voyage grew out of all of that in 2012. We realized that the training program we were providing was not sufficient; we needed to give students a true training and onboarding experience that would help grow them into great leaders.

Is Voyage an internship? If not, how is it different?

Sarah: It’s important to note: Voyage is NOT an internship. As a Voyager, you’re a manager — in most cases, you will have people that you supervise on a daily basis. You’ll perform management tasks and be seen as a leader on property. We like to say it’s the bridge between college and the “real world” — your first true job once you’ve graduated.

Is this a global program? Can I be a Voyager in French wine country if I currently live in Idaho?

Sarah: Voyage is offered in over 50 countries. However, it’s important to note that in order to work in ANY country, you require work authorization there. (We do not sponsor work visas for the Voyage Program here in the U.S.) We recommend that you always start Voyage where you already have that work authorization, which is likely your “home” country.

Who is eligible to be a Voyager?

Sarah: All Voyagers must have work authorization in the country for which they’re applying AND either be a current senior who graduates with a bachelor’s degree prior to the program starting or be a recent graduate who has received their bachelor’s degree within the past 24 months. It’s a small window to qualify for Voyage, because it is truly meant to be an entry-level leadership position.

How long is the Marriott Voyage Program?

Sarah: The Voyage Program is typically 12 months in the U.S. (though it can run longer) and Canada and can be up to 18 months internationally.

How much does the Marriott Voyage Program pay?

Sarah: It varies based on the location and discipline you choose, but no one makes less than $45,450 annually. You can make up to $76,230 if you are in NYC and in accounting.

What type of schedule can a Voyager anticipate?

Sarah: Typically, Voyagers are scheduled for 40-hour work weeks, but can sometimes work a little more or a little less than that depending on the hotel’s business demand. All Voyagers are also eligible for overtime, so if you work more, you’ll make more! Because hotels are a 24/7 operation, most Voyagers can expect to work weekends and holidays—it’s just the nature of our business.

What types of benefits do Marriott Voyagers receive?

Sarah: As full-time Marriott associates, you’re eligible for all the same benefits as any other full-time associate . What’s more: we pay to relocate you to your city of choice, help you find roommates before day one, and for certain departments, provide sign-on bonuses (looking at you, Culinary and Engineering).

marriott voyage program

Kelly Loss Photography

Are there remote Voyage roles or all in-person?

Sarah: The heart of our business is hotel operations—hotels can’t function without great customer service and a strong housekeeping team, which requires associates to be in person to make it work. Therefore, 99% of all Voyage roles are in-person. One exception currently is a Sales Voyager, but Sales Voyagers make up 1% of all our Voyage hires, making them incredibly competitive. Getting your foot in the door with Marriott is just the first part of your journey; once part of our team, you can easily change departments in the future. (Don’t believe us? Here’s just one of the many stories of hotel internal mobility .)

When does the Marriott Voyage Program officially start?

Sarah: We have start dates in January, February, June, July, and a small handful in September. A new Voyager is eligible to start their position following graduation. For example, if you graduate in May, you could start in either June or July, depending on any summer vacation plans.

How many recent grads get hired every year as Voyagers?

Michael: In the 2022-23 academic calendar, we received 6,700+ applications and hired 600+ Voyagers.

marriott voyage program

Is it only for hospitality majors?

Michael: No way. Disciplines include Rooms Operations, Front Office, Food & Beverage, Event Management, Accounting & Finance, Culinary, Human Resources, Facilities Management, Revenue Management, Sales, Housekeeping, and Banquets.

Sarah: For culinarians, we are seeking students who have a culinary arts degree, or have significant experience “working the line” if their degree is in another field of study. Culinary Voyagers can expect to be working in the kitchen, so having proper knife skills and training is a must. For facilities management engineers (we use the term “engineer” to describe the people who keep the hotel in working order, anything from lightbulbs to fire alarms), we are seeking students who have previous experience or a degree in facilities management — being able to fix an HVAC system or a water main break will come in handy! For accountants, we are seeking students who are accounting majors or accounting minors. While we do accept other majors, those who don’t have an accounting background may not be interested in the Accounting & Finance Voyage Program since it is managerial accounting based.

What happens over the course of the Program?

Michael: During your Voyage, you will be able to immerse yourself in the operations of your specific discipline and in other disciplines through mini-departmental rotations. Though you will be able to have some hands-on in multiple departments, this is not a rotational training program as you will be spending 95% of your time in your specific discipline. To supplement your hands-on development, you are assigned the Voyage curriculum which allows you to learn specific discipline and departmental training. In addition, as a Voyager, you have formal monthly rap sessions with your Property Coach (direct manager) and formal quarterly rap sessions with your Property Champion (executive hotel member). These rap sessions help ensure that you have both the support and knowledge in your program to be successful in your new Marriott career!

WGS 84 coordinate reference system is the latest revision of the World Geodetic System, which is used in mapping and navigation, including GPS satellite navigation system (the Global Positioning System).

Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) define a position on the Earth’s surface. Coordinates are angular units. The canonical form of latitude and longitude representation uses degrees (°), minutes (′), and seconds (″). GPS systems widely use coordinates in degrees and decimal minutes, or in decimal degrees.

Latitude varies from −90° to 90°. The latitude of the Equator is 0°; the latitude of the South Pole is −90°; the latitude of the North Pole is 90°. Positive latitude values correspond to the geographic locations north of the Equator (abbrev. N). Negative latitude values correspond to the geographic locations south of the Equator (abbrev. S).

Longitude is counted from the prime meridian ( IERS Reference Meridian for WGS 84) and varies from −180° to 180°. Positive longitude values correspond to the geographic locations east of the prime meridian (abbrev. E). Negative longitude values correspond to the geographic locations west of the prime meridian (abbrev. W).

UTM or Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system divides the Earth’s surface into 60 longitudinal zones. The coordinates of a location within each zone are defined as a planar coordinate pair related to the intersection of the equator and the zone’s central meridian, and measured in meters.

Elevation above sea level is a measure of a geographic location’s height. We are using the global digital elevation model GTOPO30 .
