“FRONTIERS TOUR 1983” where the glory was extremely successful. That superb sound board album is appearing in permanent preservation press CD. It is contained in this work “Philadelphia Performance June 4, 1983”. This show is a historic big big show that gathered about 90,000 at the huge venue JFK stadium. It is a symbolic concert in the history of JOURNEY that it became an official image “FRONTIERS …. AND BEYOND!”. Speaking of “FRONTIERS TOUR”, I also remember Japanese performance and super board soundboard “NORMAN 1983: PRE-FM MASTER (Zion-106)” in memory. Let’s first check the position of the show from the whole picture of the world tour.

“February 22” FRONTIERS “release” · February 22 – March 4: Japan (8 shows) · March 28 – May 8: North America # 1 (29 shows) · May 13 – June 5: North America # 2 (18 shows) ← ★ Coco ★ · June 10 – 26: North America # 3 (13 performances) · July 1 – 31: North America # 4 (23 performances) ← “NORMAN 1983” · August 5 – 21: North America # 5 12 performances) · September 1 – 6: Hawaii (5 shows)

This is a glorious tour. Because Japan is barely called “the world”, other than the United States only. This work of Philadelphia was a concert that was the final stage of such “North America # 2”. As this show was the biggest stage in the whole world, it also broadcasts the famous radio program “SUPERSTARS IN CONCERT”. I have reigned as a big staple since ancient times. This work is the best live album. Digitized directly from the finest broadcast masterplate that was discovered only recently. Ultimate generation is completely different in dimension from many air check checks, and dubbing traces and aged deterioration are zero. Although the original sound is currently being talked about on the net, this work has also been brushed up with the latest / latest remastering. To tell the truth, this broadcast was originally somewhat missing, the most tasty vocal and guitar growth was now. Even the truly broadcast master disc does not change the recorded sound itself. In this work, we arrange such original sound carefully and improve the clearness better. We realized a beautiful sound that also allows official release. It is overnight engraved as a vertex in the history of glory that is drawn with that quality. This day is a big event with Brian Adams, THE TUBES, Sammy Hager and John Cougar. That’s why it is a short set, so we showcase the golden super-famous songs by concentration reduction. It is a pleasant place of “After The Fall” “Lovin ‘, Touchin’, Squeezin ‘” which I could not even listen to the Daimyo board “NORMAN 1983: PRE-FM MASTER”. The more dazzling, the enthusiasm for the big stage in the century. A crowd of about 90,000 people …… No, I challenged the big crowd, and the performances that are united with each other are terrible. Although the pattern was felt even in the official video “FRONTIERS …. AND BEYOND!”, This work is much longer than that, “Line Of Fire” “Edge Of The Blade” “Do not Stop Believin ‘” “Lovin ‘, Touchin’, Squeezin ‘” and plenty of it. Among them, “Faithfully” is a big impression. In the official video, it was replaced with a promo video, but this work is properly live. A yellow loud voice explodes in a beautiful intro and the singing voice of Steve Perry reverberates proudly as the explosive sound of the fireworks roars. Although it is a masterpiece approaching the chest whenever you listen to it, it’s a pride in singing voice because it’s a big hit straight because it’s a passion that can not be held down by enthusiasm, and it takes a whole body of it. Just a few days ago the winter Olympic Games ended, but the gold medal is the most dazzling thing with a wonderful acting and exciting awaiting ceremony of world record. This work is the same as that. Even the same song and the same melody are overflowing with the glow that exists only in “1983”, only the JFK stadium with about 90 thousand people in front of me is dazzling.

JFK stadium performance which became a highlight during highlighting even during the biggest heyday. It is the highest peak soundboard album ever. Overnight where shining famous songs were the most dazzling. Its historic highest peak record. It is one special piece among all music left by JOURNEY. Permanent preservation Press CD is emerging.

AND BEYOND!”

私が大名盤「NORMAN 1983:PRE-FM MASTER」を聞くことさえできなかった「After The Fall」「Lovin ‘、Touchin’、Squeezin ‘」の楽しい場所です。

For any Journey fan this is as good as it gets! The transfer from laser disc to DVD is superb, bar none. Since this is the imported Laser disc version from japan, it is the full version of the documentary/concert not the edited one found on the VHS here in the US or re-release on short lived DVD version. The one thing that i will address is that since the laser disc is from japan, it does have closed caption permanently on and can not be disabled but, the audio is in English. Don’t let this stop you from getting this awesome DVD. It just brings authenticity to the transfer from laser disc to DVD. Thank you MVR for sharing this, at long lost, highly sought after gem.

A must have for any true Journey / Steve Perry fan! Over the years I’ve had several “copies” plus, the original VHS of this documentary and now this one from the guys at Music Video Resource. This remaster DVD, by far is the best video quality I have come across!

Eugene Davis (verified owner) – September 25, 2020

Great DVD for all JOURNEY fans. Service was awesome as usual. Great remastering of this classic stage of the bands career. Thank you for offering this rare item at this great website.

I can’t say enough how happy I am with DVD. The specific reason I purchased it was because it has concert footage from the June 4, 1983 Philadelphia concert. The inclusion of ‘Don’t stop Believing’ was as it is in the ‘Frontiers and Beyond’ Documentary as well as the Director’s Cut.

In addition it contains John Facenda narrating. The ’83 Philly concert contained Faithfully which eventually was released as a music video. This concert has so much personal meaning for me and my wife, as it’s where we met some 38 years ago watching our all-time favorite band at the height of their career. We will cherish that memory til the day we die. To find this DVD with the concert and the band playing our two most favorite songs – ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ and ‘Faithfully’ – was just amazing for us.

Fortunately, I can only give this review (5) stars. If I could, I give it a (10) for being a complete product plus a product of quality.

Daniel Alustiza (verified owner) – May 29, 2021

As mentioned, in another review, there are Japanese subtitles with the commentary, so don’t think it’s a setting with your DVD player, when playing back. This is an awesome DVD! Anyone who has seen the Journey Greatest Hits DVD, will see where some of the video footage comes from for that DVD, most likely being this Philadelphia concert. The song “Faithfully” is not a concert video, as it appears to be the same video on the Greatest Hits DVD, which I believe was a MTV video release, but the whole DVD still kicks ass! There are songs on this DVD that are NOT on the Greatest Hits DVD.

Journey’s Greatest Hits: Neal Schon;Steve Smith;Steve Perry;Ross Valory;Gregg Rolie (1979)

Journey’s greatest hits? That’s a tough question when you consider that lead singer Steve Perry , lead guitarist Neal Schon , bassist Ross Valory , rhythm guitarist George Tickner , keyboardist Gregg Rolie , and drummer Aynsley Dunbar — collectively known as Journey — have had 25 albums go gold and platinum.

Journey hit its highest career points between 1978 and 1987, with their most popular album being Escape (1981), which reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts and features some of the band’s most well-known songs.

To check them out for yourself, read on (and listen to!) Journey’s greatest hits!

11. “Stone in Love” (1981): Journey’s greatest hits

Neal Schon came up with the idea for “Stone in Love” (featured on Escape ) at a house party, writing the signature riff and structure, while Steve Perry, with the help of Jonathan Cain (who replaced Rolie in the band as keyboardist), finished the song. However, you can hear Perry’s influence on the song during the guitar solo towards the end.

10. “Just the Same Way” (1979)

Written by Gregg Rolie, Schon and Ross Valory, this song appeared on Journey’s Evolution album (1979). With catchy lyrics and memorable beats, this song is the epitome of the kind of music the band is best known for.

9. “Ask the Lonely” (1983): Journey’s greatest hits

Reaching number 3 on the Billboard charts in 1984, this track has just the right amount of rock and roll infused into it. It featured in the film Two of a Kind and appeared on its soundtrack. It was written by Perry and Cain.

8. “Who’s Crying Now” (1981)

Another amazing song written by Cain and Perry. This song debuted at number 4 on the Billboard charts and was the Bang-highest charting single in the UK until “Don’t Stop Believin'” was released later that year. This track appeared on the Escape album and highlighted Steve Perry’s impressive vocal range.

7. “When You Love a Woman” (1996): Journey’s greatest hits

Appearing on the band’s 10th album,  Trial by Fire (1996), the love song “When You Love a Woman” hit number 1 on the Billboard charts and stayed there for four weeks, while also finding itself nominated for a Grammy Award. It was co-written by Perry, Schon and Cain, and was one of Perry’s last songs as lead vocalist for the band.

6. “Someday Soon” (1980)

Originally written by Ian Tyson and sung by him and Sylvia Fricker in 1963, Journey debuted their version of this song in 1980. With hard-hitting drum beats and stunning background vocals, this cover version really makes the band shine in a brand-new way.

5. “Be Good to Yourself” (1986): Journey’s greatest hits

“Be Good to Yourself” was the band’s first song in over three years due to Perry’s solo tour. It was written by Perry, Cain, and Schon — the only ones to appear on the track as the band was dealing with losing Ross Valory and Steve Smith at the time of its recording.

4. “Anyway You Want It” (1980)

Written on a tour bus by Perry and Schon, this song earned its place in music history after appearing in the 1980 comedy film  Caddyshack . Over the years, it has also been heard in  The Simpsons ,  Charlie’s Angels 2: Full Throttle and Glee.

3. “Lovin’ Touchin’ Squeezin'” (1979): Journey’s greatest hits

Released in 1979, this song takes listeners on a wild ride as they learn that a woman is cheating on a boyfriend, but it ends with them learning he is cheating on her, too. Written by Perry, this one has heartfelt lyrics and a slower, more soulful beat.

2. “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)” (1983)

Appearing on their 1983  Frontiers  album, this song spent six weeks on the Billboard charts. However, some fans heard about it in 1982, when the band decided to play it on their  Escape  tour. Most recently, the song appeared in the Season 4 finale of the hit Netflix show  Stranger Things .

1. “Don’t Stop Believin'” (1981) Journey’s greatest hits

Arguably their most famous song, “Don’t Stop Believin'” was the second song released from the  Escape  album. It was a top 10 hit worldwide in 1981 and later became the band’s signature song. Written by Cain, Schon and Perry, in 2009 it became the top selling track in iTunes history up to that point.

Journey's Greatest Hits: 11 of The Band's Best Songs Ranked

J ourney's greatest hits? That's a tough question when you consider that lead singer Steve Perry , lead guitarist Neal Schon , bassist Ross Valory , rhythm guitarist George Tickner , keyboardist Gregg Rolie , and drummer Aynsley Dunbar - collectively known as Journey - have had 25 albums go gold and platinum.

Journey hit its highest career points between 1978 and 1987, with their most popular album being Escape (1981), which reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts and features some of the band's most well-known songs.

To check them out for yourself, read on (and listen to!) Journey's greatest hits!

11. "Stone in Love" (1981): Journey's greatest hits

Neal Schon came up with the idea for "Stone in Love" (featured on Escape ) at a house party, writing the signature riff and structure, while Steve Perry, with the help of Jonathan Cain (who replaced Rolie in the band as keyboardist), finished the song. However, you can hear Perry's influence on the song during the guitar solo towards the end.

10. "Just the Same Way" (1979)

Written by Gregg Rolie, Schon and Ross Valory, this song appeared on Journey's Evolution album (1979). With catchy lyrics and memorable beats, this song is the epitome of the kind of music the band is best known for.

9. "Ask the Lonely" (1983): Journey's greatest hits

Reaching number 3 on the Billboard charts in 1984, this track has just the right amount of rock and roll infused into it. It featured in the film Two of a Kind and appeared on its soundtrack. It was written by Perry and Cain.

8. "Who's Crying Now" (1981)

Another amazing song written by Cain and Perry. This song debuted at number 4 on the Billboard charts and was the Bang-highest charting single in the UK until "Don't Stop Believin'" was released later that year. This track appeared on the Escape album and highlighted Steve Perry's impressive vocal range.

7. "When You Love a Woman" (1996): Journey's greatest hits

Appearing on the band's 10th album,  Trial by Fire (1996), the love song "When You Love a Woman" hit number 1 on the Billboard charts and stayed there for four weeks, while also finding itself nominated for a Grammy Award. It was co-written by Perry, Schon and Cain, and was one of Perry's last songs as lead vocalist for the band.

6. "Someday Soon" (1980)

Originally written by Ian Tyson and sung by him and Sylvia Fricker in 1963, Journey debuted their version of this song in 1980. With hard-hitting drum beats and stunning background vocals, this cover version really makes the band shine in a brand-new way.

5. "Be Good to Yourself" (1986): Journey's greatest hits

"Be Good to Yourself" was the band's first song in over three years due to Perry's solo tour. It was written by Perry, Cain, and Schon - the only ones to appear on the track as the band was dealing with losing Ross Valory and Steve Smith at the time of its recording.

4. "Anyway You Want It" (1980)

Written on a tour bus by Perry and Schon, this song earned its place in music history after appearing in the 1980 comedy film  Caddyshack . Over the years, it has also been heard in  The Simpsons ,  Charlie's Angels 2: Full Throttle and Glee.

3. "Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'" (1979): Journey's greatest hits

Released in 1979, this song takes listeners on a wild ride as they learn that a woman is cheating on a boyfriend, but it ends with them learning he is cheating on her, too. Written by Perry, this one has heartfelt lyrics and a slower, more soulful beat.

2. "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)" (1983)

1. "Don't Stop Believin'" (1981) Journey's greatest hits

Arguably their most famous song, "Don't Stop Believin'" was the second song released from the  Escape  album. It was a top 10 hit worldwide in 1981 and later became the band's signature song. Written by Cain, Schon and Perry, in 2009 it became the top selling track in iTunes history up to that point.

Insider Today

Hundred-year-old carriages from the Orient Express fleet make up the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express , Belmond's revamp of the iconic luxury sleeper train. With 60 routes in 17 cities, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is perhaps the most luxurious train in Europe . Prices start at $9,000 a night.

The train's top-tier accommodation is a grand suite. With a starting rate of $26,000 a night, these rooms are filled with luxury details and amenities unique to any other cabin on board, from a private shower to around-the-clock butler service.

Business Insider recently took a tour of the rooms as a cabin steward explained the details of each suite.

Look inside the train's most extravagant accommodations to peek at the luxury journey of a lifetime.

The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is the epitome of luxury train travel in Europe.

journey world tour 1983

Guests are welcomed on red carpets for an overnight journey with lavishly decorated vintage carriages, fine dining restaurants, and jaw-dropping views of passing scenery.

The train has six grand suite accommodations — each with a unique design.

journey world tour 1983

Grand suites are the third tier of accommodation — one step above a suite and two steps above a historic cabin .

Each grand suite is inspired by a city on the train's routes, including Venice, Vienna, Istanbul, Budapest, and Prague.

They all include a couch, a double bed that can be converted into two twins, a dining area, and a full en-suite bathroom.

All six have a full bathroom with a rainfall showerhead.

Each bathroom has a glass-blown sink, heated marble flooring, and a rainfall showerhead.

Grand-suite guests also get complimentary bathrobes and slippers.

Next to each bathroom is a closet with additional storage space so guests can fully unpack and feel at home.

Each has a dining area, too.

journey world tour 1983

Grand-suite guests are greeted with caviar upon arrival and can dine in their rooms rather than in the restaurant cars if they prefer.

They also get 24-hour butler service and bottomless champagne for the entire journey, the cabin steward told BI.

The Venice grand suite fuses Italian Baroque and Renaissance design.

journey world tour 1983

Venetian furniture, vintage glass light fixtures, and a combination of silk and woven fabrics fill this suite with a historic Italian ambiance. Navy-blue velvets are reminiscent of the train's exterior.

The headboard combining arches and sharp edges may remind one of the Renaissance castles in Italy .

Emerald and golden details mark the Vienna suite.

journey world tour 1983

The suite has a classic feel with dark wood contrasting gold trimmings.

According to a Belmond fact sheet obtained by BI, the headboard backing is made of silk to evoke a sense of elegance. Its curved shape and the tassel detailing in the bed's skirt may remind travelers of the historic city's regal palaces .

The Istanbul suite feels like a Turkish palace.

journey world tour 1983

Shiny, hand-carved wood from the furniture to the walls is a work of art. For those who have been to the Turkish city of Istanbul , the embossed leather and fabric embroiderings may bring back memories of the city's opulent offerings at the famous and historic Grand Bazaar market .

Gothic and Ottoman architectural styles inspired the Budapest suite.

journey world tour 1983

The Budapest suite is decorated with ornate marquetry and furniture with embroidered silk patterns. The tall, curved headboard may remind travelers of Gothic cathedrals and mosques that date back to the Ottoman Empire .

The Paris suite is meant to evoke romantic vibes.

journey world tour 1983

Inspired by the city's architecture, the Paris suite nods to art deco elements, classical facades, and the city's high-fashion reputation with a geometric headboard and detailed wooden marquetry.

And finally, the Prague suite nods to the city's theatrical culture.

journey world tour 1983

Maroon and gold are the colors of the Prague suite to bring travelers a sense of the city's theater scene . Mosaic patterns inspired by cubism fill the walls, and cushions embroidered by hand add luxury details to the furniture.
