LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Holiday travelers beware – a major storm is heading towards mid-Michigan.

The National Weather Service has already issued a winter storm warning starting Thursday at 4 p.m. and going through Saturday at 1 a.m. for Lansing and Jackson.

Starting on Thursday, those in the Lansing area will begin to see a rain and snow mix during the day. As we approach the evening, that will change to sleet and freezing rain, and eventually just snow. Add to that very strong winds that will gust up to 40-50 mph.

Heavy snow and blizzard conditions are possible starting early on Friday and into Saturday.

The National Weather Service says those hazardous travel conditions could continue through Sunday, with the most dangerous time being between Friday and Friday night. In addition, some cars could become stuck in snow drifts.

If you still plan on leaving, the roads will become dicey on the west side of the state first and eventually affect the whole state. According to the graphic below made by 6 News Chief Meteorologist David Young, the roads will get bad Thursday morning on the west side, and Thursday afternoon for the rest of the state.

All travel may be affected by the storm, including air travel, the NWS said.

As far as snow totals, that will largely vary based on where you are. In Lansing, early projections have us sitting at 6-12 inches. Slightly more can be expected to the west. In the southeast areas like Ann Arbor and Detroit, closer to 4-8 inches is forecasted.

Power outages are also possible, and that may include slower recovery times because of the winds, snow, and cold weather.

Temperatures in the teens and wind chills below zero are likely from Friday to Sunday, the NWS said.

As the world continues to battle the COVID-19 pandemic, various travel restrictions have been implemented in order to slow down the spread of the virus. When it comes to the state of Michigan, there are several travel restrictions that visitors and residents need to be aware of.

One of the main travel restrictions currently in place in Michigan is a requirement for all individuals entering the state to self-quarantine for a period of 14 days. This applies to both residents returning from out-of-state travel and visitors coming from other states. The quarantine period is set in place to ensure that individuals do not unknowingly spread the virus within the community.

In addition to the quarantine requirement, the state of Michigan also advises against non-essential travel. This is in line with the recommendations of health experts and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Non-essential travel refers to travel for tourism or recreational purposes, which is discouraged in order to limit the spread of the virus and protect public health.

Furthermore, the state of Michigan has implemented various public health measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 within its borders. These measures include the mandatory use of face masks in indoor public spaces, social distancing guidelines, and capacity limits for businesses and events. These measures are crucial in preventing the transmission of the virus and ensuring the safety of residents and visitors.

It is important to note that travel restrictions and guidelines may change frequently based on the evolving situation and recommendations from health authorities. Therefore, before planning any travel to Michigan, it is advisable to check the official website of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services or consult with local authorities for the most up-to-date information on travel restrictions and requirements.

In summary, the current travel restrictions in place for Michigan include a mandatory 14-day self-quarantine for individuals entering the state and a recommendation against non-essential travel. Additionally, there are various public health measures in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19. It is essential to stay informed and comply with these restrictions and guidelines to ensure the health and safety of everyone.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect travel around the world, many states and countries have implemented travel restrictions to help curb the spread of the virus. For residents of Michigan who are looking to travel, it is important to be aware of any specific states or countries that have been placed on a travel restriction list.

The state of Michigan does not currently have any specific states or countries on a travel restriction list for its residents. However, it is important to note that this information is subject to change as the situation with the pandemic evolves.

While there may not be any specific travel restrictions for Michigan residents, it is still crucial to stay informed about the COVID-19 situation in the destination you plan to travel to. Many states and countries have their own travel restrictions in place, including mandatory quarantine periods upon arrival or negative COVID-19 test requirements.

Before traveling, it is recommended to check the official websites of the state or country you plan to visit to stay updated on any travel restrictions or guidelines. Additionally, it is advised to closely follow guidelines provided by health authorities, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Even if there are no specific travel restrictions for Michigan residents, it is important to continue practicing safety measures to help mitigate the spread of the virus. This includes wearing masks, practicing social distancing, washing hands frequently, and avoiding crowded places.

It is also important to consider the potential risks associated with travel during this time. COVID-19 cases can still be prevalent in many areas, and traveling increases the chances of exposure to the virus. If you have underlying health conditions or are in a high-risk group, it may be wise to reconsider non-essential travel at this time.

In conclusion, while there are no specific states or countries on a travel restriction list for Michigan residents, it is crucial to stay informed about any travel restrictions or guidelines in the destination you plan to visit. Following the guidance of health authorities and practicing safety measures can help ensure a safe and responsible travel experience during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Understanding the Current St. Barts Travel Restrictions

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has greatly impacted travel around the world. Many countries have implemented travel restrictions and border closures in an effort to contain the spread of the virus. However, there are certain exemptions to these travel restrictions, particularly for essential workers and individuals with medical purposes.

Essential workers, such as healthcare professionals, emergency response personnel, and those involved in the transportation of essential goods, are often exempt from travel restrictions. These workers play a crucial role in maintaining the functioning of essential services and are allowed to travel for work purposes.

Medical purposes, including seeking medical treatment or accompanying someone who requires medical assistance, are also considered valid reasons for exemption from travel restrictions. Individuals in need of specialized medical care or those who need to be with a family member receiving treatment may be allowed to travel, provided they meet the necessary requirements and have the appropriate documentation.

It's important to note that the specific exemptions vary from country to country as each nation has adopted its own set of regulations and guidelines. Some countries may require proof of employment or documentation from employers, while others might need detailed medical records or documentation from healthcare providers.

To avail exemptions for essential workers or medical purposes, it is advisable to check the official government websites or contact the respective embassies or consulates to understand the specific requirements and procedures. They can provide the most up-to-date information regarding the exemptions and any additional documentation that may be required.

Additionally, it is essential for travelers to comply with health and safety protocols, such as wearing face masks, maintaining social distancing, and adhering to quarantine guidelines if applicable. These measures are in place to ensure the well-being and safety of individuals during their travel.

It's important to stay informed about the latest updates regarding travel restrictions and exemptions as the situation evolves rapidly. Consulting official sources and seeking guidance from relevant authorities will help ensure a smooth travel experience and avoid any unnecessary complications.

Understanding Korean Airlines Travel Restrictions: What You Need to Know

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to unfold, travel restrictions have become a common measure implemented by governments around the world to control the spread of the virus. These travel restrictions have had a significant impact on the global travel industry and have caused disruptions for travelers worldwide. One common question on everyone's mind is, "How long are the travel restrictions expected to remain in place?"

The duration of travel restrictions can vary greatly depending on the specific country and the extent of the outbreak. While some countries have already begun to lift their travel restrictions or have announced plans to do so in the near future, others are still maintaining strict measures to limit non-essential travel.

It is important to note that the situation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic is evolving rapidly. As new information becomes available and governments reassess the risk level, travel restrictions may be updated or extended. Therefore, it is difficult to provide a definitive answer regarding the exact duration of travel restrictions.

The key factor in determining the duration of travel restrictions is the success of the measures implemented to control the spread of the virus. If the number of new cases continues to decline and the situation improves, governments may decide to ease travel restrictions. However, if there is a resurgence of cases or the virus continues to pose a significant threat, travel restrictions may remain in place for a longer period of time.

Another important consideration is the development and distribution of a COVID-19 vaccine. Vaccination programs are well underway in many countries, and it is hoped that widespread vaccination will help bring the pandemic under control. If vaccination efforts are successful and the majority of the population is immunized, travel restrictions could be lifted or significantly reduced.

Ultimately, the duration of travel restrictions will depend on a combination of factors, including the progress in controlling the spread of the virus, the success of vaccination programs, and the guidance of public health officials. It is important for travelers to stay updated on the latest travel advisories and restrictions in their destination country and to adhere to the guidelines provided by health authorities.

In conclusion, while it is difficult to predict the exact duration of travel restrictions, it is expected that they will remain in place until the global situation improves and the risk of COVID-19 transmission is significantly reduced. As the pandemic continues to unfold, travelers should stay informed and be prepared for potential changes in travel restrictions.

Navigating Travel Restrictions: What You Need to Know About Kayaking during the Pandemic

Michigan has implemented travel restrictions in order to combat the spread of COVID-19. These restrictions are in place to protect the health and safety of Michigan residents and visitors. Violating these travel restrictions may have consequences, including legal penalties and the potential for harm to others.

The travel restrictions in Michigan require individuals to refrain from non-essential travel. This means that individuals should avoid travel for recreational purposes or social visits. Essential travel, such as for work, medical care, or obtaining necessary supplies, is permitted.

If an individual violates the travel restrictions and engages in non-essential travel, they may face legal consequences. Michigan law provides penalties for violating emergency orders, such as the travel restrictions. These penalties can include fines and potential jail time. The specific penalties will vary depending on the circumstances of the violation.

In addition to legal consequences, violating the travel restrictions can also have consequences for public health. By engaging in non-essential travel, individuals increase the risk of spreading COVID-19 to others. This can have serious consequences for vulnerable individuals, including those with underlying health conditions or older adults. It is essential that individuals adhere to the travel restrictions in order to protect the health and well-being of their community.

To ensure compliance with the travel restrictions, law enforcement agencies in Michigan may conduct checks at transportation hubs, such as airports and bus stations, to identify individuals who may be in violation. They may also receive reports of potential violations from concerned citizens. If a violation is suspected, individuals may be asked to provide documentation or proof of essential travel.

It is important for individuals to stay informed about the current travel restrictions in Michigan and to comply with them in order to protect themselves and others. This includes staying updated on any changes or updates to the restrictions and understanding what constitutes essential travel.

In conclusion, violating the travel restrictions in Michigan can have legal consequences, including potential fines and jail time. It can also have serious public health consequences by increasing the risk of spreading COVID-19. It is important for individuals to comply with the travel restrictions and only engage in essential travel to protect the health and safety of their community.

Minnesota and Wisconsin are fresh off their warmest winter on record, with snowfall less than half of normal in cities like Minneapolis.

Michiana counties under travel advisories due to winter weather

(WNDU) - Most counties in our viewing area are under a travel advisory as we continue to see winter weather here in Michiana.

As of 10:20 a.m. EST on Monday, all nine of our northern Indiana counties are under an advisory. They are listed below:

YELLOW : Elkhart, Fulton, Kosciusko, LaGrange, LaPorte, Marshall, Pulaski, St. Joseph, Starke

In Indiana, county travel status information is provided by each county’s emergency management agency. As counties initiate official travel advisories and notify the state, they will be automatically updated at the Indiana Department of Homeland Security’s website .

Counties that are YELLOW are under an ADVISORY , which is the lowest level of local travel advisory. It means that routine travel or activities may be restricted in areas because of a hazardous situation, and you should use caution or avoid those areas.

Counties that are ORANGE are under a WATCH , meaning that conditions are threatening to the safety of the public. Only essential travel, such as to and from work or in emergency situations, is recommended. This is also when emergency action plans should be implemented by businesses, schools, government agencies, and other organizations.

Counties that are RED are under a WARNING , which is the highest level of local travel advisory. It means that travel may be restricted to emergency management workers only. Under this advisory, you are urged to:

  • Refrain from all travel
  • Comply with necessary emergency measures
  • Cooperate with public officials and disaster services forces in executing emergency operations plans

ELYRIA, Ohio (WJW) – It’s the final countdown to the eclipse , and no matter how you plan to travel, expect delays.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a notice about potential flight restrictions and reroutes along with higher-than-normal traffic volumes in the eclipse path.

Estimates have up to 550,000 people potentially traveling to Ohio to watch the phenomenon, according to Lorain County Director of Emergency Management Dave Freeman. This week, a team of safety experts is running through planning sessions for any potential emergencies.

“It’s not doomsday or the apocalypse, what we’re asking you to do is just be prepared,” said Freeman.

People are advised to visit grocery stores and fill up cars ahead of April 8, to avoid anticipated traffic congestion.

“That’s one of the things I see as a potential problem,” Freeman said. “Grocery stores have a lot of food, restaurants have a lot of food, gas stations, it’s limited. There’s so much in those tanks and once they run out, that’s it and they might not get a supply truck in if all this traffic is clogging the roadways.”

As for phones and possible outages due to crowd size slowing networks, Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile report it can handle increased traffic. Freeman said travelers should keep a paper map in their car if unfamiliar with the area.

“Have paper maps in your car because you may not be able to get on GPS and if you don’t know where you’re going and you’re visiting the area, you might need that paper map to go home,” said Freeman.

Initially, Freeman along with other county emergency management agencies advised locals to stay home during the eclipse due to tourism and possible backups on roads. However, the advice was issued before cities announced watch parties. Freeman said the agency is prepared to handle challenges.

Michigan spring storm: How much snow to expect by region

Up to four inches possible in parts of metro detroit.

Ken Haddad , Digital Managing Editor

4Warn Weather – In true Michigan weather fashion, spring is off to a very wintry start -- and it’ll feel even more like it later this week.

A system moving through the state late Thursday into Friday is expected to leave behind several inches of snow in some areas, including parts of Metro Detroit.

Recommended Videos

Snow models are likely going to change as we get closer to Friday, but here’s a roundup of what’s forecasted in every region of Michigan:

Snow in Metro Detroit

Here’s the latest from 4Warn Weather’s Ashlee Baracy: Temps will stay cold on Thursday with highs back in the 30s, but clouds will give way to some sunshine. The day should remain dry.

Accumulating snowfall is expected for much of Southeast Michigan on Friday. The snow will roll in before daybreak and stick around much of the day.

It is likely that most of Metro Detroit could see 1-2 inches of snow, whereas accumulations of 3-4 inches are possible along and north of M-59.

That snow won’t stick around too long. We will be on either side of 40 degrees this weekend with a mix of sun and clouds.

(Read + watch her full forecast here)

Snow in West Michigan

Here’s what the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids says: Low pressure approaches from the west bringing measurable snow Thursday night into Friday with impacts to travel for the Friday morning commute expected.

Snow in Northern Lower Michigan

Here’s what to expect from the NWS in Gaylord: Storm system will move into Michigan on Friday spreading a swath of moderate to heavy snowfall possible. Best potential for 4 inches or more of snow will be along and south of M-72. Friday morning and evening commutes will be snow packed and hazardous.

Snow in Michigan Upper Peninsula

Here’s what to expect from the NWS in Marquette: Lake effect snow persists today into Thursday. Additional light totals up to 1 to 2 inches are expected in the NW wind belts of the western UP, but 4 to 8 inches of additional snow are possible across the east.

Blustery winds the rest of today may lead to blowing snow, resulting in reduced visibility and hazardous driving conditions especially across the eastern UP.

What travelers should know about FAA advisory on total solar eclipse before April 8

michigan travel restrictions weather

The total solar eclipse is nearing, so the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is offering guidance to commercial planes and private aircraft ahead of the phenomenon.

The "Great North American Eclipse" will occur on April 8. During this cosmic event, the Moon will pass between the Earth and the Sun and travel " a narrow path of totality from southwest to northeast across thirteen U.S. states," the government agency said.

For many passengers, the impact should be limited to the types of delays associated with high-travel days.

"Due to the high volume of traffic along the eclipse path, (airport) arrivals can expect lengthy delays during peak traffic periods," the FAA said.

The eclipse will begin over the South Pacific Ocean and cross North America, passing over Mexico, the U.S. and Canada, according to the FAA. The eclipse's path will affect the U.S. from 2:30 p.m. EST to 3:40 p.m. EST, the agency said.

Airports in Texas, Vermont, Maine, Canada, New Hampshire, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky and Missouri will be primarily affected by the eclipse, the FAA said.

"The purpose of this notice is to inform airmen of the possible impacts to air traffic and airports along the eclipse path during the period April 7, 2024, (6 a.m. EST) through April 10, 2024, (midnight EST)," the FAA said.

What the FAA is saying about aircraft ahead of the eclipse

In preparation for the eclipse, aircraft should be ready for potential airborne holding (circling in the air to delay landing), rerouting and FAA-indicated take-off times for all domestic arrivals and departures that abide by instrument flight rules, according to the agency.

Traffic management initiatives , including alternative routing, parking guidance strategies and the slowing down and speeding up of air traffic could be implemented during the total eclipse, according to the FAA.

"There may be a higher traffic volume than normal anticipated at airports along the path of the eclipse," the government agency said. "Traffic should anticipate delays during peak traffic periods."

Parking for aircraft could be limited, particularly at the smaller and uncontrolled airports, the FAA said. Departures could be a challenge for certain aircraft depending on their level of clearance, the agency said.

Pilots could find some restrictions at airports on April 8, FAA says

Pilot training operations at airports will be "extremely limited" and "possibly prohibited" as the eclipse passes, according to the FAA.

Pilots are advised to "carefully" check the Notice to Airmen (NOTAMs), a notice to help prepare for changes in procedure and service and against hazards, the FAA said.

"Specific NOTAM procedures may be revised, and arrivals to some airports possibly restricted so please review NOTAMs frequently to verify you have the current information," according to the agency.

Special security provisions may be in effect during the eclipse, including temporary flight restrictions (TFRs), two-way radio communications and discrete transponder requirements , the FAA said.

TFRs are normally announced through NOTAM about three to five days before the event, the agency said.

Step 2: Understanding the Different Levels of Risk

Once you’ve accessed the map itself, it’s important to understand what each level of risk means. There are five different classifications that counties can fall under: ● Low Risk (green): less than 10 cases per million people ● Medium-low Risk (yellow): 10 – 20 cases per million people ● Medium Risk (orange): 20 – 40 cases per million people ● High-risk (red): 40 or more cases per million people or higher than 10% 7-day positivity rate ● Uncontrolled Spread (dark red): Significantly exceeding above criteria, including over 150 cases per million people

These classifications are based on the number of positive COVID-19 cases in a given county as well as other factors such as whether transmission is community-driven or traced back to specific outbreaks. Common FAQ’s About the Michigan County Travel Advisory Map – Answered!

The Michigan County Travel Advisory Map is a valuable resource for anyone looking to travel within the state. However, it can be confusing and overwhelming for those who are not familiar with how it works. In this blog post, we will answer some of the most common FAQs about the map to help you navigate your travels safely.

1. What exactly is the Michigan County Travel Advisory Map?

The Michigan County Travel Advisory Map provides information on COVID-19 risk levels in each county of the state. It categorizes counties into four different tiers: low risk (green), medium risk (yellow), high risk (orange), and very high-risk (red). The purpose of this map is to help residents and travelers make informed decisions about their movements amid the ongoing pandemic.

2. Who decides which tier a county falls under?

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services determines which tier each county should fall under based on three key factors – new cases per capita, positivity rate, and change in hospitalizations rates over seven days.

3. Can I travel freely across all tiers without any restrictions whatsoever?

No, there are certain restrictions depending on what tier a county falls under. If you’re traveling from one green or yellow-tiered area to another green or yellow-tiered area, there are no significant restrictions required by law/ordinances other than following regular preventive measures like wearing masks social distancing etc.

However; as you move towards higher Tier Zones i.e.; orange/red color coded areas then some precautionary measure may require such as returning non-residents staying overnight capacity limits set upon specific types of gatherings; restricted access to places with too much crowding etc., that’s why checking these zones at every step while planning for a journey becomes crucial so that nothing catches up unexpectedly once reaching your destination

4. Are there additional guidelines I need to follow when traveling between tiers?

Yes! For instance — if traveling between two-or-more Tiers red/orange, there may be some restrictions for non-residents to stay or come in (depending on the laws and regulations of that specific place)for an extended period. On a brighter side if you’re traveling from yellow tier zone to Red Zone then getting back within 24-hour is allowed.

5. What happens if I need to travel through a red or orange-zoned county?

The MDHHS recommends avoiding unnecessary travel through areas with higher risk levels. While there are no legal restrictions against it, erring on the side of caution can help slow down the spread of COVID-19 across different regions.

6. Is it mandatory for me to follow these guidelines while traveling?

It’s not illegal as such but we would strongly suggest following these basic verbal lines especially when stuck around in high-risk zones-

a) Keep practicing regular Covid prevention measures like washing hands frequently, wearing masks

b) Avoid crowded areas whenever possible,

c) Follow all rules & regulations applicable at your destination

d) If you develop any symptoms before/during/after reaching out, get yourself tested immediately

Conclusion:

In conclusion, the Michigan County Travel Advisory Map serves as a valuable tool for travelers seeking essential information about COVID-19 risks right off their phones/computers. With this guide available at your fingertip – hopefully – now you will have clarity over some key concerns which people face encountering maps over time! Make sure to keep revisiting Tiers map multiple times whether planning family events/trips/business travels etc and do whatever necessary precautions way ahead rather than waiting until it’s too late!

U.S. travel alert: Cruise line cancels more stops to popular Caribbean resort

  • Published: Mar. 25, 2024, 7:08 a.m.

michigan travel restrictions weather

Stops at Labadee have been replaced with visits to Perfect Day at CocoCay, another Royal Caribbean-operated resort.

A major cruise company has announced more cancellations for stops at its private resort in Haiti due to continued unrest and violence.

Royal Caribbean had previously announced a temporary suspension of stops at its resort in Labadee, Haiti. Now, according to a report on RoyalCaribbeanBlog.com, itineraries will be changed through at least mid-April.

“Due to the evolving situation in Haiti, we’ll now visit Perfect Day at CocoCay instead of Labadee, Haiti. We’re terribly sorry for the last-minute change – your safety is our top priority,” Royal Caribbean International’s Assistant Vice President of Guest Experiences wrote in the communication to guests sailing on the April 14 sailing of Explorer of the Seas, the website reported.

Stops at Labadee have been replaced with visits to Perfect Day at CocoCay, another Royal Caribbean-operated resort. Other itineraries have been rerouted to Grand Cayman, Bimini, Grand Turk and St. Maarten.

Royal Caribbean recently announced a temporary stop to calls on Labadee, located on the northern coast of Haiti. The U.S. State Department had previously issued an alert for Haiti, advising people not to visit the country due to the threat of “kidnapping, crime, civil unrest and poor health care infrastructure.” All family members of U.S. government employees and non-emergency personnel have been ordered to leave the country.

The resort in Labadee, first opened by Royal Caribbean in 1986, is located about 130 miles from the Haiti capital Port-au-Prince, the epi-center of gang violence. The U.S. State Department announced last week it had completed its first evacuation of American citizens from Port-au-Prince, transporting 15 people to Santo Domingo, t he capital of the Dominican Republic. Others were later evacuated on a plane chartered by the Florida Department of Emergency Management.
