Short description of the exhibition
T he museum inaugurated on the 60th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising’s outbreak. Situated in the former Warsaw tram power plant in the Wola district, at the edge of the Warsaw Business District.
The museum’s unique exhibition engages with visuals, light, and sound. Multimedia effects and the interior bring the uprising’s reality closer. The exhibition comprises large photographs, monitors, and computers. A marked path outlines the chronology of events, guiding through themed rooms. The museum’s core is a steel monument spanning all floors, engraved walls depict the uprising’s timeline, and a heartbeat sound symbolizes life in Warsaw in ’44. The ground floor depicts the uprising’s outbreak, and a separate room displays operational 1940s printing presses.
Second Level
Accessed by an elevator, the second level showcases insurgents’ armbands. The mezzanine portrays individual battles and daily life in insurgent Warsaw. The Palladium cinema displays three insurgent newsreels from the Home Army’s Information and Propaganda Office. A canal reconstruction, featuring scenography and sound effects, supports identification with insurgents. The canal and stairs lead to the first floor, illustrating the uprising’s suppression, subsequent world events, and a memorial with insurgents’ graves.
The Liberator Room
At the exhibition’s second part, the Liberator Room features a 1:1 scale replica of the aircraft Liberator B-24J, along with a section dedicated to allied air drops.
