The beautiful Quito City Tour begins by exploring this beautiful big city, learning something about its turbulent history and taking in some of the most impressive places the city has to offer.

Quito is the highest constitutional capital city in the entire world, yet the looming volcanos and tranquil Andean mountain peaks surrounding Quito provide a stark reminder of the serene landscapes all around.

You will get to experience the new section of the city in the North with its many parks and tall modern buildings, the Avenida Rio Amazonas, the Plazas Santo Domingo, Independencia Square, and San Francisco which are in the colonial section in the South of the city.

You will do a wonderful full walk along the main streets, plus quick stops in the most beautiful spots of Quito’s colonial town, in order to see the incredible structures, buildings, monasteries, churches, and squares lighted up by the splendid colors! In our Quito city tour, you will get a sense of the architecture, history, and culture, due to its many historical architectural monuments, UNESCO declared the old part of town a world heritage site in 1978.

We will make a quick stop at San Francisco Square, this was once a bustling hub of activity during the colonial period, but is now a quiet place for reflection where one can cast their gaze over the beautiful city and the neighboring volcanoes.

From the Panecillo hill in the South of the old part of town, where the high monument of the Virgen of Quito stands at 43 m, you have an impressive prospect. From here you have wonderful views over the red clay tile roves of the old part of town, the skyline of Quito in the North, as well as the surrounding Andean cordilleras range with its outstanding snow-covered mountain giants. Sit down, relax and take your time to enjoy the fantastic view.

Favourite part of the day trip was at the middle of the earth and also visiting the various churches in Quito – loved the cultural experience – Pedro shared a lot of historical and interesting facts which truly enriched the experience. Immerse yourself in Latin America's colonial past by exploring its best-preserved city. Discover the beautiful historic buildings of Quito on this guided trolley bus tour!

Description

At the indicated time, we'll meet at the Holiday Inn Express , ready to begin exploring the  most emblematic sights around Quito . We'll board an  original trolleybus , a replica of the trams used around the city until the 20th century, and head to the modern area of the city, before going to the historic centre named a UNESCO World Heritage Site .

Our first stop on the tour will be a building that stands out against the city's skyline: the  Basilica of the National Vow . This magnificent Neo-Gothic-style church is reminiscent of Paris' Notre Dame Cathedral . Filled with its history, we'll head to the Panecillo Hill, and as well as seeing the Monument to the Virgin of El Panecillo up close, you'll enjoy spectacular panoramic views of Quito.

You'll then reach the  Plaza de la Independencia , also known to locals as Plaza Grande, the city's main square and home to some of its most important buildings, including the green-domed Quito Cathedral , the  Government Palace  and the  Archbishop's Palace . If you carry out this tour on a Monday, you'll have the chance to see the Changing of the Guard. 

The nearby Compañía Church  is another highlight of this area. Considered by many to be Ecuador's most beautiful place of worship, the building's interior is sumptuously decorated with ornate carvings and gold leaf.

Our tour of the romantic Ronda neighbourhood then continues, and here we can find a great selection of artisanal shops. Then, following 4 hours tour discovering  Quito's cultural and architectural treasures , you'll be dropped back off at the meeting point.
