The Wonder Years is an American pop punk sextet that formed in 2005, hailing from Lansdale, Pennsylvania, in the U.S.

From the burning embers of the Lansdale, PA, band The Premier, came vocalist Dan “Soupy” Campbell, guitarist Matt Brasch, and multi-instrumentalist Nick Steinborn. Along with guitarist Casey Cavaliere, bassist Josh Martin, keyboardist Mikey Kelly and drummer Mike Kennedy, the line-up forms Philadelphia punk pop band The Wonder Years. Named after an essay of the same name lead singer Campbell wrote for his after-school education teacher, the band’s early years were spent releasing split EPs with other local bands.

After completing their first tour of the UK, The Wonder Years recorded and self-released their debut album “Get Stoked on It!” on October 30, 2007. The release, along with their touring schedule led to a swelling of the band’s fan base and signing with No Sleep Records shortly afterwards.

The band’s label debut came in spring 2008 with the EP “Won’t Be Pathetic Forever” followed by a split release with UK pop punk band All or Nothing titled “Distances” in 2009. Mikey Kelly subsequently left the band following the release to pursue other outlets.

With a devoted following for the release of their second full-length LP “The Upsides” (2010), the album performed much better commercially than the first, reaching No. 5 on the Billboard alternative artist chart. Shortly after the release the band announced they had signed to Hopeless Records and were releasing a deluxe version of the album with the added songs “I Was Scared and I’m Sorry”, “We Won’t Bury You” and “Dynamite Shovel (Campfire Version)” among others.

After following the release with an extensive touring schedule, The Wonder Years announced they were returning to the studio, the result of which was “Suburbia I’ve Given You All Now I’m Nothing”. Release on June 14, 2011 the album was inspired by the Allen Ginsberg poem entitled “America” and was led by the single “Local Man Ruins Everything”. Subsequent singles included “Don’t Let Me Cave In” and “Coffee Eyes”. In 2012 the band released a split 6-inch with pop punk band Stay Ahead of the Weather with the name “Punk Is Dead” and rereleased their debut “Get Stoked on It!”.

2013 brought four shows in less than 24 hours in promotion of the band’s fourth full-length LP “The Greatest Generation”. Sales for the album were more than double any of The Wonder Years’ previous releases and the success of which led to dates at the UK’s Slam Dunk festival and Vans Warped tour 2013.

Live reviews

Seeing The Wonder Years at Riot Fest last year in Chicago is one of my fondest memories in a long time.

Riot Fest ensured that the crowd was huge and enthusiastic, dancing and pulsating with The Wonder Year's pop punk anthems. The stage was mostly bare, save for the musicians and their instruments, as Riot Fest has multiple artists perform on the same stage throughout the festival, but that's what I was expecting, as I was there for the band and not the spectacle.

The Wonder Years had a killer set, and made sure that if the audience knew parts of songs that they were singing along. Matt provided some killer back up vocals amidst the three guitarist's solid performances, which was great to see as well as a fan of the super talented Matt Brasch.

Another thing that's great about seeing The Wonder Years live is seeing how each of the bandmates performs the sets on stage, aside from playing the instruments. For example, at Riot Fest Dan "Soupy" Campbell was dancing up a storm, and just seeing how his excitement translated into his body when performing pumped up myself and the rest of the audience even more.

Overall, seeing The Wonder Years at Riot Fest showed me that not only is there genre of music pop punk, but their performance is pop punk, too, which is a rare feat to see onstage.

The Wonder Years are so quintessentially American, so brilliantly pop punk and college rock that, if you know what you are getting yourself in for, they will never fail to disappoint. Personally, I am a huge fan of all old school American pop punk, from Sum 41 to Acceptance, I love the genre, in all its forms. The Wonder Years are wonderfully nostalgic, just as their name suggests, and their music is designed to get the audience pumped, dancing and singing along passionately. When confronted with such great tracks as ‘Came Out Swinging’, there is nothing else one can do apart from shout the lyrics passionately and dance crazily. The band themselves dance up a storm on stage and bash their guitars so passionately that they create a wild frenzy on stage themselves. They clearly loved every minute they were up on stage and the audience, in turn, loved watching them. Soupy’s vocals were as on point as ever and Matt Brasch’s guitar skills were a wonder to behold. The band ended with the mellow ‘Hey Thanks’ in a comic way of thanking the audience for coming.

The entire concert was stellar!

Specifically speaking about The Wonder Years' set...

They opened the set w/ Brothers & Cardinals...The anticipation during the Intro couldn't be put into logical words and The Wonder Years did NOT disappoint!!!

Dan "Soupy" Campbell put on the most inspired and emotional performance that I've seen in a LONG time. The entire band was ON THE BALL. The crowd was loving it. They interact great with the fans and play their songs well. The entire band, including the Bass Player Roulette (since Josh had to fly home for a Wedding) actually worked out. It led to some comedy from Soupy and made the show unique!

They had a 2 song encore, the first of which included Matt (One of the guitar players) playing drums (duel drums, to be clear) during one of their newer songs, Cigarettes & Saints.

The show ended on a high and I'm still riding high from being a part of the magical night.

Thank you TWY!

The most engaging show I’ve been to by far. Soupy (Dan) truly gave it his all and sounded just as good live as he does on the albums and he captivated the crowd turning it all into one big mosh pit several times throughout the night although as it was a co headliner it seemed that more than half of the crowd were there for the other band, Mayday Parade. He is a very hardworking yet underrated frontman and the most dedicated I’ve seen. The musicians all gave it their all despite several, especially the drummer, being obviously in quite a lot of pain. In short, you should definitely see these guys.

So far I've seen The Wonder Years live only twice, but I can surely say I enjoyed their performance each time. I've seen them once in Warped Tour, so only had a taste of their awesome stage performance for a very short set list. Next I saw them when they were doing their own tour with a couple other bands (which were enjoyable as well). Even though I was very tired from a long day about the city, I immediately regained the energy once they came onto the stage. Both times I saw them live they were great, and I hope they continue to bring forth more awesome performances our way. :3

Every single band that was there was amazing. I really only knew Moose Blood, but that didn't matter. I was in the crowd until the end of The Wonder Years' set because I wanted to support them in any way possible. Even though I didn't know the words to any of the songs, they were a great band. They deserve more fans than they have; every band that was there does. They work so hard to play for their fans around the world just like any other artist does and that's what makes the experience special. I highly enjoyed this concert and would definitely go back to the venue.

Simple word with such meaning. Every support band were awesome. I love going to gigs to add new bands to my belt. Tiny Moving parts were on as I arrived and they were on fire.

Trash Boat certainly fanned the flames further. Such angst and chaos on stage.

Pup were simply amazing. Slight guitar tech difficulties but they shone right through.

As for The Wonder Years they didn't disappoint. Storming set.

Shame I was skint otherwise the merch tshirt/vinyls would have been mine.

Great show, great energy! Could not be happier. Openers were really solid as well, definitely worth the wait though for TWY. Their setlist plays all the hits, plus a small acoustic set at the start of the encore to really show of their musicality. Will definitely come to another show next time they're in town!

BrijMSingh’s profile image

They’re great, Dan Campbell is one the most dynamic front man in any pop punk/emo band out there and he only gets better after all these years.

You’ll defiantly run the gamut of emotions through the setlist, from existential dread to euphoric release of catharsis.

I saw them at the Cleveland Agora for the first time. Great show! What an awesome band. They have such a large following and they really know how to move their crowd. I am very glad I was introduced to this band. I wish I would have found out about them much sooner!

Taylor Swift and Matty Healy's Relationship Timeline

Swift and Healy dated for a few months in 2023, which she recounts on 'The Tortured Poets Department' album

the wonder years tour 2014

Taylor Swift and Matty Healy 's short-lived relationship sparked a lot of conversation.

The musicians initially met in the fall of 2014 but didn't date until years later.

Shortly after The 1975 frontman was spotted attending Swift's Eras Tour in Nashville in May 2023, the two were photographed holding hands at New York City's Casa Cipriani, where they were out with mutual friend and collaborator Jack Antonoff .

Their relationship came just a month after PEOPLE confirmed Swift's split from longtime boyfriend Joe Alwyn , which a source told PEOPLE was a result of "differences in their personalities ."

Following their whirlwind romance, PEOPLE confirmed the "Karma" singer and 1975 frontman broke up in June, noting their relationship was "always casual."

Most recently, Swift recounted the highs and lows of their relationship on The Tortured Poets Department album.

From the beginnings of their friendship to their short-lived romance, here's a timeline of Swift and Healy's relationship through the years.

November 19, 2014: Taylor Swift and Matty Healy first meet

Swift reportedly first met Healy when she attended a 1975 concert in Los Angeles along with pals Selena Gomez and Ellie Goulding . Swift later shared photos and a video from the concert on Nov. 21, captioning the since-deleted post with lyrics from the band's song "The City": "Yeah you wanna find love, Then you know where the city is."

November 22, 2014: Taylor Swift wears The 1975 merch

A few days after the 1975 concert, Swift was photographed wearing the band's merch during an outing in Los Angeles ahead of her performance at the American Music Awards. Earlier that month, Healy had also rocked a shirt featuring Swift's 1989 album cover on stage, further prompting speculation about their relationship.

November 29, 2014: Matty Healy says he would date Taylor Swift

Following Swift's appearance at the 1975 concert, Healy was asked about the singer during a radio interview with Shazam Top 20, during which he revealed that they exchanged numbers at the Los Angeles show.

When the DJ inquired about them possibly dating, Healy replied, "Let's just see what happens," per E! News . He added, "I mean bloody hell, what am I going to do? Go out with Taylor Swift ? She's a sensation, I wouldn't say no."

Earlier that October, Swift had maintained that she was happily single during an interview with E! News. "It's not that [I've sworn off dating] as much as I'm just very protective of my happiness," Swift told the publication. "I found a place in my life that feels really great and I'm not willing to compromise that for just anyone, and so, you can paraphrase that all you want into something very extreme, but they make what I say extreme no matter what I say."

She added, "So I'm really happy about the fact that being single doesn't feel like being alone. I have love in my life, I just don't have a relationship, and that feels really natural right now."

December 4, 2014: Taylor Swift attends another The 1975 concert with Karlie Kloss

In early December, just a few days before her 25th birthday, Swift attended another 1975 concert in N.Y.C. alongside Karlie Kloss and Lily Aldridge. Following Healy's comments about Swift, the outing sparked even more rumors that the pair were an item .

January 20, 2015: Matty Healy shuts down Taylor Swift dating rumors

A month later, Healy publicly shut down rumors he was dating Swift during a radio interview with Australia's 2DayFM. "It's fake," he said, per E! News . "It's all bloody fake. It's a farce!"

"We met each other, we exchanged numbers in the same way that a lot of people in this kind of world do, and we spoke occasionally," he continued. "She's the biggest pop star in the world and I'm in Australia. There's no relationship or anything happening. It's just funny how people really, really buy into that."

February 25, 2015: Taylor Swift and Matty Healy hang out at a Universal Music Brits party

After diffusing dating rumors, the two hung out as friends at a pop-up event held at London's Soho House for Universal Music Brits. The two were seen huddled up at the DJ booth alongside Ellie Goulding and Nick Grimshaw. At the same event, Swift was also pictured with Calvin Harris, whom she would go on to date later that year.

March 2016: Matty Healy clarifies Taylor Swift comments

Speaking with Q magazine, Healy opened up about his rumored romance with Swift, calling the connection a "flirtation."

"I don't do anything else [besides music], right, so it doesn't leave a lot of room for me going out, or shagging someone," he told the publication, per NME . "So the one time I did have a flirtation with a girl it ends up going everywhere…. I mean, I got on E! News and people were like, 'Who's Matt Healy?' so that was cool."

He continued, "If I had gone out with Taylor Swift I would've been, 'F---ing hell! I am NOT being Taylor Swift 's boyfriend.' You know, 'F---. THAT.' That's also a man thing, a de-masculinating, emasculating thing."

Shortly after the interview was published, Healy wrote an open letter saying that his comments were being taken out of context. He also detailed how dating rumors between him and Swift quickly escalated in the media.

"Since she came to my show in December of 2014, I would say that 90 percent of journalists that have interviewed me have asked about either her as a person or what our 'interaction' was like," he wrote, per Elle . "I have said on countless occasions that I found her to be one of the most gracious, hard working, creatively gifted, and beautiful women that I have had the pleasure to meet. I personally have a lot of respect and admiration for her. Why would I not?"

He continued, "I didn't even date Taylor, but the media's incessant and brutal obsession with her has meant that even a guy who DIDN'T DATE HER has been so battered by their never-ending questions that he's inevitably said something that can be lifted and molded into something that resembles 'shade'. It's really sad."

September 2022: Matty Healy shuts down rumors of a Taylor Swift collab on Midnights

Ahead of the release of Swift's Midnights album , Healy found himself connected to the singer once again as rumors circulated that The 1975 would be featured on the album . However, much to fans' dismay, Healy shut down the rumors, writing, "I would love that! But unfortunately FAKE NEWS :("

November 2022: Matty Healy reveals he did work with Taylor Swift for Midnights

A month after the album's official release, Healy revealed that he did in fact work on a collaboration with Swift for Midnights , though it was never released.

"We actually worked a bit on that but then the version of it never came out," the star said in an interview with KROQ's Klein/Ally Show for Audacy's DTS Sound Space.

After the crowd booed Healy's revelation, the "About You" singer was quick to defend Swift, telling them, "It was for reasons that are not to be criticized ... She's amazing."

In early January 2023, Swift made a surprise appearance at the 1975's concert in London, performing her single "Anti-Hero" for the first time live. She also performed a cover of The 1975's "The City" during the impromptu appearance.

April 8, 2023: PEOPLE confirms Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn have broken up

In April 2023, PEOPLE confirmed that Swift had broken up with her longtime boyfriend Joe Alwyn . A source close to the Grammy winner and the Conversations with Friends actor told PEOPLE their split was largely caused by "differences in their personalities ."

"They've had rough patches before and always worked things out, so friends thought they would take some time apart but eventually come back together," the source said, noting that "ultimately" Swift and Alwyn "weren't the right fit for one another."

The source added that Swift's superstardom was another factor in the split: "Joe has struggled with Taylor's level of fame and the attention from the public."

May 2023: Matty Healy attends Taylor Swift's Eras Tour in Nashville

In May 2023, Swift and Healy found themselves at the center of dating rumors once again as The Sun reported they were seeing each other. Shortly after the dating rumors surfaced, Healy was spotted attending several shows at Swift's Eras Tour in Nashville.

In photos from the Saturday concert, Swift's pal Gigi Hadid could be seen playfully rubbing Healy's shoulders as he smiled and held his hand to his chest during Swift's performance.

Earlier that night, Healy joined opener Phoebe Bridgers for her set, as he wore the Grammy nominee's go-to skeleton onesie and played guitar throughout her time on stage.

May 11, 2023: Taylor Swift and Matty Healy hold hands in N.Y.C.

After hanging out in Nashville, the two were spotted spending time with pal Jack Antonoff at New York City's Casa Cipriani. Photos posted to social media showed Swift and Healy holding hands at the members-only venue.

"Taylor is happy. She's very focused on her tour but is enjoying hanging out with Matty when she is off," a source told PEOPLE following her PDA-filled outing with Healy. Another insider added: "They're hanging out and having a good time. It's not just platonic."

May 13, 2023: Matty Healy attends Eras Tour concert with Taylor Swift's dad

On May 15, the duo were photographed leaving the Electric Lady Studios in Greenwich Village in N.Y.C. Swift was seen wearing a purple NYU sweater, black mini skirt and beige sneakers, while The 1975 star dressed casually in a black sweatshirt and pants as he appeared to place a hand Swift's back.

The musicians were joined at the New York City recording studio gathering by several other stars including Kendrick Lamar , Florence Welch , actress Margaret Qualley and her fiancé Jack Antonoff — one of Swift's longtime collaborators.

June 5, 2023: Taylor Swift and Matty Healy break up

In June, PEOPLE confirmed that Swift and Healy have broken up . "She had fun with him, but it was always casual," a source told PEOPLE. "They are no longer romantically involved."

"They were never boyfriend-girlfriend or exclusive and were always just having fun," another insider tells PEOPLE. "There is no drama, and who knows what could happen again. It was a good time and ran its course."

July 2023: Taylor Swift and Matty Healy reconciliation rumor gets shut down

Just a month after their split, it was reported that the two were back together. However, a source quickly shut down that rumor to PEOPLE . "They are absolutely not together and aren't even in contact anymore," the source close to Swift explained. "She is enjoying being single and has been spending time in the studio and hanging out with friends in New York City. This is all B.S."

April 19, 2024: Taylor Swift sings about Matty Healy on The Tortured Poets Department album

In addition to recounting how her six-year relationship with Alwyn came to an end, Swift also details her short-lived romance with Healy in the spring of 2023. On “Guilty as Sin?” Swift sings about having strong romantic feelings for someone from her past while in a relationship with someone else, seemingly noting that she was already crushing on Healy before her relationship with Alwyn officially ended.

Then on “Fresh Out the Slammer,” Swift sings about feeling ready and able to dive into a new romance after exiting a different relationship that was holding her back. The song also hints that her new love is not American, as she sings that she’s returning “to the one who says I’m the girl of his American dreams.” (Both Healy and  Alwyn are English .)

She also appears to address the intense criticism that surrounded their relationship with the track “I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)” (on which she convinces herself that she can change her man's ways in spite of the world thinking he's bad news).

On “loml,” Swift reveals the relationship was not meant to last as sings about rekindling an old flame, only to see the relationship crash and burn.

“It was legendary / It was momentary / It was unnecessary / Should’ve let it stay buried,” she sings. “Oh what a valiant roar / What a bland goodbye / The coward claimed he was a lion / I’m combing through the braids of lies / ‘I’ll never leave’ / ‘Nevermind.’”

8 facts about atheists

Caucasian man cycling outdoors

Atheists make up 4% of U.S. adults, according to our 2023 National Public Opinion Reference Survey . That compares with 3% who described themselves as atheists in 2014 and 2% who did so in 2007 .

Here are some key facts about atheists in the United States and around the world, based on several Pew Research Center surveys.

This analysis draws on several Pew Research Center studies. Data on the share of atheists in the United States is from the  2023 National Public Opinion Reference Survey , as well as the Center’s  2007  and  2014 Religious Landscape Studies .

Other data on U.S. atheists comes from various waves of the American Trends Panel, collected in  September and December 2017 ,  February 2019 ,  September 2022 , and  July and August 2023 .

For data from countries other than the U.S., this analysis draws on nationally representative surveys conducted in 2019, 2022 and 2023. Read more details about our  international survey methodology and country-specific sample designs .

For the purposes of this analysis, “wealthy nations” are those that were classified as “high income” according to the  World Bank Income Classifications .

In the U.S., atheists are mostly men and are relatively young,  according to a Center survey conducted in summer 2023 . Around six-in-ten U.S. atheists are men (64%). And seven-in-ten are ages 49 or younger, compared with about half of U.S. adults overall (52%).

Atheists also are more likely than the general public to be White (77% vs. 62%) and have a college degree (48% vs. 34%). Roughly eight-in-ten atheists identify with or lean toward the Democratic Party.

Almost all U.S. atheists (98%) say religion is not too or not at all important in their lives, according to the same summer 2023 survey. An identical share say that they seldom or never pray.

At the same time, 79% of American atheists say they feel a deep sense of wonder about the universe at least several times a year. And 36% feel a deep sense of spiritual peace and well-being at least that often.

U.S. atheists and religiously affiliated Americans find meaning in their lives in some of the same ways. In a 2017 survey , we asked an open-ended question about this. Like a majority of Americans, most atheists mentioned family as a source of meaning.

However, atheists (26%) were far more likely than Christians (10%) to describe their hobbies as meaningful or satisfying. Atheists were also more likely than Americans overall to describe finances and money, creative pursuits, travel, and leisure activities as meaningful. Very few atheists (4%) said they found life’s meaning in spirituality.

A map showing that western Europeans are more likely than Americans to identify as atheists.

Atheists make up a larger share of the population in many Western European countries than in the U.S.,  according to a spring 2023 Center survey that included 10 European countries. For example, nearly a quarter of French adults (23%) identify as atheists, as do 18% of adults in Sweden, 17% in the Netherlands and 12% in the United Kingdom.

Most U.S. atheists express concerns about the role religion plays in society. An overwhelming majority of atheists (94%) say that the statement “religion causes division and intolerance” describes their views a great deal or a fair amount, according to our summer 2023 survey. And 91% say the same about the statement “religion encourages superstition and illogical thinking.” Nearly three-quarters (73%) say religion does more harm than good in American society.

At the same time, 41% of atheists say religion helps society by giving people meaning and purpose in their lives, and 33% say it encourages people to treat others well.

Atheists may not believe religious teachings, but they are  quite informed about religion . In our 2019 religious knowledge survey , atheists were among the best-performing groups. On average, they answered about 18 out of 32 fact-based questions correctly, while U.S. adults overall got roughly 14 questions right. In particular, atheists were twice as likely as Americans overall to know that the U.S. Constitution says no religious test is necessary to hold public office.

Atheists were also at least as knowledgeable as Christians on Christianity-related questions. For example, roughly eight-in-ten in both groups knew that Easter commemorates the resurrection of Jesus.

Most Americans don’t think believing in God is necessary to be a good person, according to the summer 2023 survey. When we asked people which statement came closer to their views, 73% selected “it is possible to be moral and have good values without believing in God,” while 25% picked “it is necessary to believe in God in order to be moral and have good values.”

Adults in some other wealthy countries tend to agree with this sentiment, based on responses to a similar question we asked in 2019 and 2022 . For example, nine-in-ten Swedish adults say belief in God is not necessary to be moral and have good values, while 85% in Australia, 80% in the Czech Republic and 77% in France say this.

However, fewer than one-in-ten adults in some other countries surveyed say that a person can be moral without believing in God. That includes 5% of adults in Kenya, 4% in the Philippines and 2% in Indonesia. In all three nations, more than nine-in-ten say instead that a person must believe in God to be a moral person.

About three-quarters of U.S. atheists (77%) do not believe in God or a higher power  or in a spiritual force of any kind, according to our summer 2023 survey. At the same time, 23% say they do believe in a higher power of some kind, though fewer than 1% of U.S. atheists say they believe in “God as described in the Bible.”

This shows that not all self-described atheists fit the literal definition of “atheist,” which is “a person who does not believe in the existence of a god or any gods,”  according to Merriam-Webster .

2024 Masters leaderboard, winner: Scottie Scheffler's patience begets second green jacket in three years

Scheffler displayed a disciplined approach that, combined with extraordinary ball striking, turned sunday into an epic coronation at augusta national golf club.

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Three straight birdies at the turn made the inevitable reality as Scottie Scheffler pulled away from a packed leaderboard at the 2024 Masters to become the 10th man in history to claim two green jackets in a three-year span. The 27-year-old Scheffler, spending his 82nd straight week as the No. 1 golfer in the world, left no doubt Sunday that what was already known is indeed true: every golf tournament he plays goes through him.

Scheffler finished 11 under -- four strokes clear of the field -- after entering the 88th playing of the Masters as an overwhelming favorite. He did nothing to dissuade his supporters over the first three rounds, either leading or staying within a single stroke after 18, 36 and 54 holes entering Sunday's finale.

Once a two-stroke lead after three holes became a four-way tie entering the turn Sunday, Scheffler flipped a switch and never looked back. He added to that three-birdie stretch from Nos. 8-10 by scoring three more on the 13th, 14th and 16th to keep Ludvig Åberg (-7) -- finishing second while playing in his first career major championship -- at arm's length.

"It's a difficult golf course to close out a win on," Scheffler explained. "You can't play overly defensive. ... You have to play to the correct spot and hit really good golf shots. I did that to the best of my abilities today and was fortunately able to hit some really key shots and make some nice birdies there on the back nine. Really, from hole 8 on, I played really, really nice golf."

Scheffler on Sunday became the 18th man to win two Masters and the first to do so over a three-year span since Bubba Watson (2012, 2014). He is also the fourth-youngest two-time Masters champion and the eighth golfer to win the first two major championships of his career at Augusta National.

With the 2024 tournament being his fifth Masters appearance, Scheffler is the second-fastest to have green jackets take up two hangers in his closet, the quickest to the achievement in 88 years (Horton Smith, third appearance, 1936).

Despite how simple Scheffler can make the game look, this Masters was anything but easy for the top name in the game. His iron play wasn't at his usually excellent level for most of the week, his tenor was tested plenty -- his pregnant wife and best friend not by his side like usual , instead at home days or weeks away from giving labor -- but when the correct shots in the correct moments were called upon, Scheffler answered.

Fighting his swing early on Sunday, Scheffler found himself in a dog fight with Åberg, Collin Morikawa and Max Homa all nipping at his heels. Scrambling saves were required to maintain his lead as he missed greens both short and long.

An uneasy feeling, Scheffler's short game took matters into its own hands. At its best when the tournament is often its tensest, his soft touch produced a stunner on the third from the bunker for his first birdie of the day.

His pursuers purred and had their moments, though. Åberg turned in 33 to touch the lead, Morikawa answered a Scheffler birdie on No. 8 with one of his own, and Homa lashed a mighty approach into 10.

The peloton was formed with 10 holes to play, and the thought of four of the best players in the world jostling through the second nine at Augusta National on Sunday raced through the minds of many. Unfortunately his peers, Scheffler raced away from the three-player pile up.

First, it was Morikawa who couldn't keep up as the two-time major champion needed two from the greenside bunker on No. 9 and ultimately carded a double bogey. Another followed on the 11th when his second found a watery grave.

Åberg had crashed just before them with the same fatal mistake. The Masters rookie battled back, it was too little too late. He ultimately became the third debutant in the last five years to finish runner-up.

Homa stood as Scheffler's last real threat as he sent a prayer into the air on Amen Corner's treacherous par-3 12th. It wasn't answered as Homa's ball traveled a yard too long, took a firm bounce and found a bush. Another double bogey ensued.

From a pack of four, only Scheffler was left standing.

While others took the bait and got greedy, Scheffler displayed discipline. While others tried to tame a brutally difficult Augusta National, Scheffler stayed patient. While others' emotions got the best of them, Scheffler remained calm.

Scheffler's superpower, his mental game, shined through when it mattered most. His ball striking gets praised and his short game is respected, but Scheffler's greatest strength has nothing to do with the club in his hand and everything to do with the mind of the person wielding it. The one now donning a second green jacket in three years.

Youngest two-time Masters champions

2024 masters leaderboard breakdown.

2. Ludvig Åberg (-7): After starting his Masters career with a 73, Åberg fired three straight under-par rounds including the only one in the 60s on Friday. A member of the penultimate pairing on Sunday, the Masters rookie felt it on the greens early. He curled in a ticklish birdie on No. 2 and another on No. 9 to head into the second nine with a share of the lead. Getting too aggressive down the hill into the 11th green, the young Swede's approach found the water and led to a double bogey -- his only dropped shots of the day. Åberg bounced back with two birdies over his next three holes to apply a smidge of pressure on Scheffler, but by then, the damage was done. The major debutant will learn from this mistake and be better for it. For now, he'll have to settle for a solo second.

T3. Max Homa, Collin Morikawa, Tommy Fleetwood (-4): Both Morikawa and Homa looked strong early. The two-time major champion did not miss a single approach shot across his first eight holes but was unable to connect on the greens. He stood square with Scheffler through this stretch of the golf course, but greed got the best of him on No. 9 when he tried to get too much out of his approach ultimately leading to the first of two double bogeys in a three-hole stretch.

Meanwhile, Homa was a surgeron around Augusta National. Picking and choosing his spots with care, the 33-year-old's birdie on the long 10th meant he had jumped into a share of the lead. He may have been too cautious when all is said is done as he erred long on the 12th, which led to his double bogey and refused to hit driver on the par-5 13th electing to play it as a three-shot hole. Still, it represents Homa's best major result and the return of major Morikawa.

"Greed got the best of me," Morikawa said. "Nine, can't miss it over there and can't leave it in the bunker. Eleven, just tried to hit too perfect of a shot. It's not like at that point I was trying to press. I knew where I stood. Yeah, it's just can't do that. In the past, I haven't done it, but kind of where the game's at. You kind of find your little stride. We put a lot of pieces of the puzzle together this week, but after watching Scottie this week, I know what to do if I really want to close this gap on what he's doing and how impressive he's playing."

T6. Cameron Smith, Bryson DeChambeau (-2): After shooting the round of the tournament (65) on Thursday, DeChambeau carded three straight over-par rounds. The former U.S. Open champion fared well in the difficult conditions on Friday, but he lost his touch on the greens over the weekend. Remaining patient for the first half of the tournament, his aggression got the better of him late on Saturday and sunk his Masters chances. He fought back nicely with his hole-out on 18 in Round 3 and a couple birdies in the middle of his first nine on Sunday, but it was all for not. DeChambeau's T6 is his first finish inside the top 20 in his Masters career.

Take it in, Scottie Scheffler!

That is his sixth birdie in his last nine holes. Scheffler tacks one on 16 and his lead is four with two holes to play. The green jacket might as well be his.

3 up 3 to go

Scottie Scheffler makes par on No. 15 to remain at 10 under and three clear of Ludvig Aberg. Three pars should secure him his second Masters title in three years.

Scheffler birdies 14

He is up three with four to go. He taps in his fifth birdie in the last seven holes and now heads to the par-5 15th. Aberg was unable to go for the green in two after a wayward drive and needs to put a wedge close.

Aberg keeps fighting

The young Swede has rattled off two straight birdies to get within two of Scottie Scheffler. The world No. 1 just made birdie on 13 to get to 9 under. It looks like it will come down to these two as Max Homa sits four adrift at 5 under with only four holes to play.
