Tiny (320 Sq. Ft.) Studio Apartment Tour
One of the biggest areas of life that I forget are minimalist is my living space. I life in a tiny 320 square feet studio apartment. Yes you read that right! 320 square feet! My classroom at school is bigger than my living space, but I seriously love it!
A couple of things before I dive into the tour: I live alone, I don’t need much, I also don’t cook too often ( although COVID did change that. .). I love living in the city, so my living room are local coffee shops , and my kitchen is really local restaurants. While in COVID I would love a comfy chair, but in all actuality I don’t think I’d use it that much. My bed makes a great couch (lol).
My entry way is kinda hard to photograph but it is one of the most useful spots in the apartment. I store my coats, shoes, winter gear, and paper products on a little rack and shoe cabinet combo . I have a hook that holds a little bucket for keys and the all important face mask.
Galley Kitchen
I really like the layout of the kitchen, its a galley kitchen in the ‘hallway’ between the entry way and the main room of the studio. It’s compact, perfect for the non cooker I am! I love the full-size fridge and did I mention the dishwasher! The only thing I hate about the kitchen is the orange countertops, they kill my vibe but as a renter I’m stuck with them.
Studio Apartment Bathroom
The bathroom is actually a lot of space for such a small apartment, which doesn’t make too much sense to me but oh well. The shower is nice, and I love the storage from the built in shelves and above the toilet cabinet. That added storage is clutch because the sink is tiny and offers no countertop or under sink storage. You win some and lose some.
Living/Bedroom/Dining Room
Now to the main room (aka the rest of the apartment). First up, the ‘dining room’. This table was a bit of a splurge for me, but seeing as though I might need to teach digitally at any given moment, it’s worth it. It serves as a desk, space to eat, and a general catch all. It would totally fit a few more chairs but I don’t have any more! The white chair as a vintage score and the black one is a cheap one from target that actually isn’t super comfortable. I only really use the white one though.
Next up is my bookcase, the classic IKEA one that everyone has in their apartment. It does the job of storing, displaying and hiding everything from holiday decor, school/printer supplies, books, bullet journals, and my new found love of plants. I like decorating the top of the bookcase for different seasons, but this display is my year round look.
On to the bedroom! This bed is a nice blend of industrial and minimal. I needed something that could fit in my Corolla and that I could haul up a flight of stairs single-handedly. IKEA is at it again. I would love to update the duvet and sheets for something a bit more high end, but basics are it for now.
My dresser is arugably the star of the show in my studio and I love it. An estate sale find that has lived everywhere from my parent’s basement, to a studio apartment in Omaha, to a storage unit, and now in my Denver space, this dresser has been through it all. I love how much storage it provides while also giving me space to layout my makeup, candles and wine. Above the dresser is some of my artwork from around the world. Photographs taken on the beaches of Costa Rica, the famous Eiffel Tour, and Big Bed at dusk, sit along a postcard from Amsterdam and street art from a Parisian artist. A few vintage pieces and Etsy shops fill in any gaps.
Last, but not least, my tiny closet and mirror set up. This is where I snap all my OOTD’s from my capsule, and store a lot of my clothes in general. I have a vintage suitcase that store my handbags. On top of that is a copper basket that holds blankets.
And that’s a wrap! My 320 square feet studio apartment tour. It’s not much, and I could certainly add a few things here and there (like art above the dining table) but I love it and it fits just me perfectly! So I have to know, do you live in an apartment? How tiny would you ever willingly live?

Its so YOU! Love that you have this special creative place. But man, aren’t you afraid of getting slop on your carpet? I spill daily!!
I just try to be careful! <3
Absolutely gorgeous studio art cottage! Amazing what you can fit into an 8×10′ , inspiring ☺
Hello, Kelly, very inspiring as usual! LOVE your mini studio. And I have a question for you: how to you manage in the winter? Is it insulated? The reason why I am asking is because I am moving from Brazil, where I am from, to Connecticut, and having a little studio like this in the backyard would be the ideal solution for me in our new house there. But I have no idea how to keep it warm in the winter… Thank you for sharing this and all of the amazing stuff you do!
It is insulated and I have a mini heater! But Portland winters are generally mild, I don’t know how I would do in Connecticut!
oh how you inspire me……
What a inspirational space. I can see how your art could so easily be born from a studio that shows, sings and I bet smells like you and your angels. I am in the process of creating my own studio space and your space energizes me. Timing is perfect for me, thank you for sending me a message to bless myself.
Thank you Mary Ann! Bless away!
I just LOVE to visit other artists studios, so thanks for the generous invite Kelly Rae! Did you have a major tidy up before you let the camera in, or are you naturally neat worker? My own studio is not a place for the feint hearted as it is just crammed to the corners with things and stuff that only I know where they are and what they are! You may have inspired me to contemplate a tidy up! THANK YOU x ~ Alison
Thank you Alison! Omg I do the same thing, and try to tidy up every now and then!
That was great. Thank you so much Miss Kelly for sharing your space. God bless you!
Thank you! I love giving tours!

This Tiny West Village Apartment Is Bursting With New Orleans and Parisian Influence
Plus, it converts into a bedroom, office, living room, and entertaining space.
The 240-square-foot apartment is in a late 19th-century classic Manhattan walk-up. It features charming details, like an original mantel, wood flooring, and large windows that overlook a beautiful street in the neighborhood. “The space did require some work when I moved in,” the designer explains. “The walls needed to be plastered, painted, and wallpapered, and the kitchen needed new cabinets.”
Carroll wanted to combine his love for his two favorite cities—New Orleans and Paris—by bringing some of the French Quarter and the Marais into the tiny apartment. A Cole & Sons wallpaper gives the space depth and movement. “It provides a good background for all of the colors, art, and antiques that I brought together to make it uniquely me,” the designer gushes.
Working within the apartment’s footprint was, of course, challenging. “Considering I like a lot of things, I had to decide which pieces I wanted to include and which pieces would actually fit,” Carroll explains. “This studio has to serve as an office, living room, and bedroom when I’m in the city—not to mention an inviting and warm space to entertain friends, a few at a time!”
Throughout the apartment, Carroll used fabrics, colors, and patterns that he didn’t mind clashing. “I always tell my clients with a small space to think big,” the designer says. “I did this with a large armoire, antique mirror, and console table—large pieces visually enlarge a small space.”
The living room converts into practically everything thanks to hardworking furniture. The “sofa” is designed to look like a banquette, and the cushion is actually a twin mattress in cotton velvet from Kravet with bullion from Samuel & Sons. “At night, I take off all the back pillows and it becomes a twin-size bed with my bedding underneath,” Carroll explains.
The focal point of the room is the mantel, which Carroll painted in Benjamin Moore's French Beret to make it stand out. The portrait over it is a 19th-century piece he found at an antique shop. The little oak English hall chair comes from an antique fair.
In a small hallway that leads to a tiny closet and the bathroom, Carroll wallpapered the closet door to add depth. Similarly, he painted the apartment's front door a rich purple, Benjamin Moore's Purple Rain, for added intrigue. "I didn’t want to look at a plain front door, so I use it an 'inspiration board' with images and things I pick up on my travels...anything that grabs my attention on my way out the door every day that makes me happy and inspired," the designer says.
For a little New York apartment, it surely packs a punch. Brimming with double-duty furniture, well-loved antiques, and plenty of personality, it proves you don't need a ton of square footage to craft a smart yet beautiful oasis.

How L.A. architects designed a 300-square-foot ADU that pulls in $1750 a month

The ADU above the garage has all the elements you would expect from a pair of architects: Arresting geometry on a narrow lot, a spare kitchenette graced with inventive storage, soaring ceilings and strategically placed aluminum windows to ensure privacy. It’s all well thought out, and it’s in the architects Jefferson Schierbeek and Su Addison’s backyard.
The couple purchased their 1962 Mar Vista home in 1999 for $360,000 when their two children, now 26 and 29, were young. As married partners of the Los Angeles-based firm Addison Schierbeek Architects , they had always wanted to add on to their home as a financial investment and a way to give the house a “bit more breathing room,” Addison says. But like many working parents, the couple put their redesign on the back burner. In the meantime, they parented their children, helped start a charter school and worked on residential projects for their clients.
After 20 years, though, they believed they could finally pull it off.
“We had been working on the design for years,” Addison says. “When the zoning codes pertaining to our property began to transition, redefining allowable building area, we realized it was time to focus on the project before any code changes required us to redesign.”
Adds her husband: “As architects, our house was similar to the story of the cobbler’s children who have no shoes.”
Goodbye carport, hello ADU: A tiny parking spot is reborn as a stunning live-work studio
A 380-square-foot ADU with plenty of storage offers flexibility for a Los Angeles couple and their extended family, including working from home and housing.
Feb. 20, 2024
In 2019, they decided to take advantage of California’s revised residential codes and add an ADU above their detached garage for $200,000. After years spent considering the design, they had a plan: They would move into the ADU when it was complete and then oversee a second-story addition on the main house from a few feet away. As a bonus, they wouldn’t have to move off property during the house construction and pay exorbitant rent in L.A. In the spring of 2020, when the ADU was finished, they moved in with their two boxers, George and Walter, for 14 months. By 2022, they moved back into the house and were ready to rent the ADU.
“I could open the door and look at the workers carrying the roof off our house,” Schierbeek says.
Measuring approximately 300 square feet, the ADU has enough space for a bed, sofa, kitchenette and desk for working from home. The architects placed the windows strategically to maintain privacy between the two homes and maximized the ceiling height to help open up the space.
“With our kids gone, it allowed us to purge,” Addison says of living in a tiny floor plan. “We learned that we didn’t need much.”
A curtain alongside a tiny patio was installed to provide privacy between the two homes.
The bathroom is streamlined, similar to a wetroom.
“It does require rethinking priorities,” adds Schierbeek, “but it does work. For instance, we didn’t build a closet; we used Ikea hanging racks instead. It was pretty austere, and it was quite easy.”
The interior space is bright thanks to multiple scattered windows and efficient use of space. There is only one sink in the unit, which means the kitchen faucet is used for everything from cooking to brushing teeth. According to Schierbeek, the loss of the sink gives the bathroom the streamlined feel of a wet room you might find in India or Europe.
South-facing windows oriented to the sun allow the studio to stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer, and drapes outside the front door can be closed for further privacy if anyone wants to sit in the patio chair on the tiny stoop.
The second story’s exterior is clad in environmentally friendly fiber-cement boards and mirrors the contemporary shape of the street-facing house. With the two homes so closely connected, the architects felt it was important to design the ADU as a playful reflection of its neighbor.
On the alley, they added a separate entrance, which came in handy when renting the studio to Adam Mefford, a 43-year-old entrepreneur, in 2022. “He doesn’t have to walk through the property to get to his rental,” notes Addison. The couple currently rent the unit for a reduced fee of $1,750 a month, given that Mefford helps them with their two dogs, who move effortlessly between the two units. For context, the average rent for a 500-square-foot studio in Mar Vista is $2,449 a month, according to Apartments.com.
“Our tenant had to love dogs,” Addison laughs.
About that time, the couple joked that, like many adult children in California , their son returned home, and was disappointed to learn that Mefford had rented the ADU.
Nestled in between the two homes, a long picnic table and barbecue offer open-air dining as though it were a park.
Some days, the couple and Mefford enjoy eating together. Mefford uses the barbecue frequently because his rental only has a cooktop and mini-refrigerator. The couple emphasizes that he is welcome to host friends in their backyard anytime.
“We share it,” Schierbeek says. “If we plan on having people over, we let him know. He has dinner gatherings at the table on certain days. We have curtains and can close them if necessary. We are flexible.”
Ready to build or rent out an ADU? Here’s how to win over nervous neighbors
Neighbors have reason to be nervous about ADUs. Construction, new tenants and street parking can be inconvenient. Here’s how to smooth things over before you start construction.
March 5, 2024
The sense of community is not restricted to backyard barbecues. On New Year’s Day this year, the couple, who met at the University of Michigan, enjoyed watching the Wolverines beat the Crimson Tide in overtime on television along with their tenant.
“It adds to the living experience,” Schierbeek says of Mefford. “I don’t like the idea of putting up walls and fences. Socially, it feels better, and financially, it’s nice to have money come in as an investment.”
Before moving to Mar Vista, Mefford lived in a loft downtown. Now, he says he appreciates all that his new living arrangements have to offer, including visits from George and Walter.
Walter, left, and George, right, wondering why they can’t come inside the ADU.
Adam Mefford, stands inside his austere kitchen and just next to the bathroom.
“The joys of living in the ADU include the great design, the light and the air movement, and the location within proximity of many stalwart SoCal attractions, such as biking to the Venice Canals, the Strand and the epic selection of connoisseur coffee outlets on this side of town,” Mefford said in an email.
The couple say they feel fortunate to have built the ADU before the COVID pandemic stalled construction and supply chain issues left builders without windows, doors and appliances. If the couple were to build a similar ADU today, they estimate it would cost significantly more. “We would have a hard time doing a second story for under $325,000 on the Westside now,” Schierbeek says.
It may have taken them 20 years to remodel their home, but the results were worth the wait: “We are living the experiment,” Schierbeek says of the second unit. “ When you think about it, an ADU creates a community on your property. I’m glad we decided to rent it. That’s what ADUs are for — housing.”

Watch: This Tiny Studio Apartment's Rent In New York Is Rs 2 Lakh, Internet In Disbelief
A home tour video showing a tiny studio apartment in new murray hill left the internet stunned..
New York is one of the most expensive places to live.
New York City is often considered one of the most exciting and vibrant cities in the world. However, it's also one of the most expensive places to live. From sky-high prices to exorbitant broker's fees and application costs, renting a house in New York can be a real headache. That's why people are forced to live in tiny apartments, which hardly have any space.
Recently, a home tour video showing a tiny studio apartment in New York's Murray Hill left the internet stunned. The footage, shared by ocr_realty on Instagram, features a cramped studio apartment with a poorly designed structure. However, it costs a whopping $2650 (Rs 2,19,089) in monthly rent.
''Is this the tiniest studio space you've seen?'', the caption read. In the video, the realtor says, ''I am about to show you one of the most unlivable studios, so as we walk in, we have your kitchen to the right and your outdoor space. But that's not what we are here for, look at that, what is this, this is your whole studio space, that's it.'' The bedroom is so small that it can hardly fit a normal-sized bed, and the closet space and kitchen area are just for the namesake.
Watch the video here:
View this post on Instagram A post shared by Realtor (@ocr_realty)
Internet users were left shocked after watching the video and couldn't believe that such a tiny apartment could cost a bomb. Many also expressed serious concerns about the city's exorbitant cost of living and raised questions about housing affordability.
One user wrote, ''That glass panel door leading outside is a burglary waiting to happen.''
Another commented, ''This apartment truly shouldn't cost more than 500.'' A third said, ''That outdoor space will be filled with rats at night. Apartments like this should not be legal.''
A fourth wrote, ''2650?!?!? How is this even legal? It's more so, why are ppl even letting landlords get away with this? Who tf would rent this sh**?''
A fifth added, ''That isn't a studio Apt, that is a hallway foyer with an attached mini bath and micro kitchenette…I doubt you can even put a bed in there with how offset and crooked that little room is…DON'T DO IT!!! My camping tent has more space!!!''
Growing population, demand for housing, remote work, changed rent laws, and skimpy supply are some of the reasons for high rents in the city.

New Yorker astounds viewers with tour of a ‘claustrophobic’ studio apartment
Wed, August 10, 2022 at 12:25:46 PM EDT
A video tour of a New York City apartment for rent has TikTokers losing their minds.
To many viewers, the studio apartment — currently listing for $2,595 a month — seems unlivable.
The rental is located on East 35th Street, in midtown Manhattan, and features just one oddly shaped room. There’s a full kitchen , a closet, a bathroom and a living space that’s less than 7 feet wide.
TikTokers are getting a look at the place thanks to @rentnewyork . The TikToker runs a popular page featuring apartment tours that range from good to bad to totally confounding.
But this recent tour caused a particularly big uproar — the posted clip was has been viewed over 3 million times!
“Is this New York City’s smallest studio?” the TikToker asks at the start of the clip.
@rentnewyork Little more in depth tour… East 35th St, $2,595/month. #nyc #tinystudio #tinyhouse #nycapartmentcheck ♬ ORANGECRUSHGROOVE (INSTRUMENTAL) – God.Damn.Chan
The tour comes amid a slew of New York City apartment videos that have gone viral .
As rent prices in Manhattan continue to soar , users have taken to TikTok with complaints about their living situations. In one clip, a New Yorker claimed she was leaving the city after learning her rent was going up by over $700 .
Other TikTokers have used the app to complain about strange or ridiculously small apartments . For example, one user’s tour of a “nauseating” apartment in Washington Heights had commenters asking how someone could even get their furniture inside.
In @rentnewyork’s video, the TikToker gives viewers a look at all the features.
The studio has an oven, stove, dishwasher and full refrigerator, although storage space is clearly limited. The bathroom is cramped, but has mirrors and a glass-doored shower that look fairly modern.
Finally, @rentnewyork shows the view from the apartment’s windows. The unit is on the first floor and overlooks a small alleyway.
“It’s not too bad out here,” the TikToker says.
Commenters had mostly negative reactions to the tour. Many questioned how a person could live there — especially for that price.
“I need to see it furnished,” one user wrote. “Because no way.”
“I can’t imagine why in the world people accept this? I’m genuinely asking, is living in New York worth this?” another added.
“You couldn’t pay me to live there,” another wrote.

311 Celebrates 3/11 With NPR Tiny Desk Performance and North American Tour Announcement
T oday (Monday, March 11) is a very special day for fans of the funky Nebraska reggae rock band 311 . That's why NPR 's Tiny Desk premiered the band's intimate performance at the office iconic studio this morning.
"What better way to spend March 11 than with 311 bringing love and nostalgia to the Tiny Desk," NPR 's Maria Stern wrote in the YouTube video 's description.
"The members of 311, who have been a band together for over 30 years, strolled into NPR HQ and barely needed much rehearsal time before playing four of their most beloved tracks. The band has been performing these songs for decades, and you can tell it all just comes naturally."

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:
From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.
At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.
According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.
The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.
Coffee Ring
The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.
Zodiac Metro
According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.
Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.
Paleontological finds
Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.
