The Palms has a total length of 5904 metres off the championship tees and has numerous water features and hazards. Tee placements have been designed to suit a variety of playing conditions and a diverse range of players. The Palms is designed to challenge players of all abilities.

                                                                                                           Links Hope Island

The golf course at Links Hope Island is an 18-hole traditional links-style championship course that was designed by Peter Thomson, 5 x winner of the British Open. The layout and design of the course are reminiscent of the great links courses of Britain and Ireland.

Primarily the course consists of two loops of nine holes, the front nine starts off to the southeast in an anticlockwise direction. The back nine heads off in a south-westerly direction, finishing with an interesting challenging two holes bounded by the non-tidal lake.

                                                                                                              The Glades Golf Club

The Glades Golf Club boasts the reputation as one of Australia’s most prestigious resort golf courses and is located right here on the Gold Coast. Designed by champion Australian golfing icon, Greg Norman, the course is typical of his trademark aggressive layouts offering golfers a challenging round of golf within visually stunning surrounds.

The Glades is a par 72 championship course that spans 65 hectares of land. Greg Norman is renowned for his bunkering worldwide and the Glades does not disappoint with a total of 94 bunkers. Greg not only had the vision to create a challenging golf course on the Gold Coast, but he also retained 9 hectares of wetland area to create a natural wildlife sanctuary within the course.

                                                                                                  Lakelands Golf Club

The name Nicklaus has long been associated with greatness on the golf course. The 18 professional major championships, the most electrifying finishes, and the sheer will to win- Jack’s achievements are legendary.

Today the name Nicklaus also stands for superior Golf Course Design, the result of Jack’s more than four decades as a renowned Golf Course Designer. With a course rating of 74 off the black tees and 72 off the blue tees, the course offers a very special experience.

In the Australian Golf Digest’s recent Top 100 Australian Golf Course rankings, Lakelands came in at number 56.

                                                                                                Brookwater Golf Club

Brookwater’s redesigned course with improved playability and sustainability is without a doubt Queensland’s finest golf experience. The spectacular Greg Norman-designed championship golf course meanders its way through naturally undulating Australian bushland, with signature bunkering and superb use of natural waterways.

The recent renovations included the strategic redesign of greens, fairways and bunkers. The scope of works was also aimed at returning the course to its original design through widening playing corridors and resurfacing and renovating green complexes.

Whilst Brookwater remains a challenging course, the changes have made it one that golfers will want to come back and play regularly. From seasoned pros to everyday enthusiasts, the captivating course offers something for any type of player.

                                                                                                  Southport Golf Club

Southport Golf Club is an easy walking course with a mild amount of undulation with tree-lined fairways and strategically placed ponds and lakes. All the fairways are beautifully manicured with Greenlees Park turf grass and the greens are 328 couch grass and roll consistently between 9-10 feet.

The course starts with a reasonable par 5 and most golfers meander through the first nine holes comfortably. The back nine is where games are won or lost with ‘amen’ corner commencing with the par 3 14th hole. This is where Southport has held itself together in tight pennant matches. The back nine has been completely redeveloped over the past 15 years.

Coolangatta & Tweed Heads Golf Club

Palm Meadows Golf Club

Palm Meadows Golf Course at Carrara on the Gold Coast is centrally located within 10 minutes of Surfers Paradise and five minutes from Broadbeach. Palm Meadows welcomes golfers of all standards and patrons may utilise all facilities including the clubhouse, function rooms, and Lakeview Restaurant.

The challenging 350-hectare course was designed by leading Australian golfer Graham Marsh. Measuring 6319 metres off the championship tees, the par 72 course features water that comes into play on 14 of the holes as well as 82 sand bunkers.

Palm Meadows’ signature hole is the world-famous 18th; it measures 523 metres from the championship tees. Players accept the challenge and decide how much of the right dogleg they want to cut off.

American Golf Digest rated Palm Meadows 18th in the world’s top 500 golf holes.

HAMILTON ISLAND

Hamilton Island is the largest Island in the Whitsunday’s, but it is also the most popular holiday destination with tourists seeking sun, sand, and relaxation.

Located in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef, there are a wide array of activities and sightseeing opportunities available for visitors, or if you’d prefer, you can relax on the beach or the swim up bar.

For the golfers, jump on the ferry to nearby Dent Island and tackle one of Australia’s most scenic golf courses. Enjoy a luxurious and relaxing Hamilton Island Golf Tour for your next golf holiday.

Hamilton Island Golf Club

The 18-hole, par 71 Hamilton Island Golf Course is said to be one of the most challenging in the world. Designed by five time British Open winner Peter Thomson, and taking full advantage of Mother Nature’s work, the course is strung along the spectacular ridges and steep valleys of Dent Island.

The course boasts a variety of obstacles for those willing to take on the challenge – wicked winds; impenetrable bushland; people have even called the 14th hole, the ‘Valley of Death’. Despite its punishing design the golf course is a ‘must do’ for both novice and professional golfers, catering for all experience levels. Plus, with spectacular views of the surrounding Whitsunday Islands and Coral Sea, the contemporary Clubhouse is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a meal after your unforgettable golfing experience.

SUNSHINE COAST

When it comes to what makes the Sunshine Coast so special, you’ll find the clue is in the name! A sunny disposition that radiates from the inside out, when you’re on holiday at the Sunshine Coast, you’ll feel it too.

Golfers are spoilt for choice when it comes to quality golf courses in the region, with many top rated courses just a short drive away from all the favourite suburbs to stay, such as Mooloolaba, Noosa, Maroochydore and Caloundra.

Signature Golf Tours have worked hard to form great relationships with all of the local top quality courses which allows us access to all the courses, but also in peak times at most courses, like Saturday’s and Sunday’s. When choosing a Sunshine Coast Golf Tour for your next golf getaway, you won’t be disappointed!

Our recommended Sunshine Coast Golf Courses:

Noosa springs golf club.

With a spectacular golf course, world class spa, superb dining, fitness centre and pool, conference and wedding facilities, and spacious self-contained accommodation, Noosa Springs Golf and Spa Resort caters for everyone.

Situated between the lush Noosa National Park and picturesque Lake Weyba, Noosa Springs is just three kilometres from Hastings Street and Noosa’s famous beaches.

More than 20 years old now and in its absolute prime, Noosa Springs is a wonderful test of golf. Consistently rated one of the finest in Australia, each hole has its own personality and style, and is lovingly maintained by a crew of greens staff, some of whom have worked at Noosa Springs since its inception. It can be a challenge, but is always a joy for visitors, social clubs, members, and those of us who simply enjoy playing the game in beautiful surroundings, then relaxing over a cold drink in the clubhouse overlooking the course.

Twin Waters Golf Club

Twin Waters Golf Club is a sportsperson’s dream. The course is internationally recognised as one of the top six resort courses in Australia.

The 18 hole, par 72 championship course was designed by five times British Open Champion Peter Thomson and partner Mike Wolveridge. The stunning setting and challenging layout combine to produce an enjoyable game of golf for all players.

A unique practice facility is the Aquatic Driving Range. Twin Waters boasts one of only a handful of aquatic driving ranges in Queensland. Working on the principle of reverse psychology, standing on the practice tee hitting straight into the water allows golfers to get used to hitting the ball when faced with a body of water. Not always easy but a good test of character!

Maroochy River Golf Club

Maroochy River Golf Club on the Sunshine Coast has been awarded recognition by being a TOP 100 Golf Course in Australia by the 3 major golfing reviewers.

Enjoy the views of the spectacular golf course with the iconic Mt Coolum on the horizon. The Maroochy River Golf Complex is the home of the Maroochy River Mini Golf, a million-dollar tourist destination and the only one of its kind on the Sunshine Coast. The complex is also the home to a modern driving range with practice bunkers and greens alongside the Queensland Golf Performance Teaching Academy.

The Maroochy River golf course is a classic risk versus reward layout. Each hole provides a safe option where a bogey – sometimes a par – is almost certain. But the course also tempts the adventurous and ambitious to squeeze a few more metres out of the drive, or to take on a devilishly placed pin. That’s when the carefully placed bunkers come into play, and a player runs the risk of his ball rolling off the sides or back of the green.

That’s part of what makes this a great golf course. The waterways – there is water on almost every hole – rolling fairways, and feature walls snaking through much of the course make for a stunning vista, while bunkers and bunker islands break up the fairways. In the distance, iconic Mount Coolum dominates the skyline, keeping an imposing eye on the play. All in all, a magnificent spectacle.

Palmer Coolum Resort

First opened for play in 1988, Palmer Coolum was designed by world renowned architect Robert Trent Jones Jnr, and is one of only five layouts in the country that he has had a hand in developing, the others being Joondalup, Meadow Springs, Cape Schanck and Old Course at National.

Visually stunning, the course utilises about a third of the resort property, with a mix of links-like holes on the stretch running along the Pacific Ocean beach and parkland holes further inland among the native melaleuca and eucalyptus groves.

Palmer Coolum had hosted the Australian PGA Championship for many years starting from 2002. After dedicating copious time and money into bringing the course back to life, it is truly in spectacular condition again and is a must play when visiting the Sunshine Coast.

Pelican Waters Golf Club

Nestled along the stunning Sunshine Coast of Queensland, Pelican Waters Golf Club stands as a beacon for golf enthusiasts seeking a harmonious blend of challenging play and breathtaking scenery. As a golfing oasis, this course, designed by the legendary Greg Norman, offers an unforgettable experience that transcends the typical round of golf.

Pelican Waters is more than a golf course; it’s a visual masterpiece. With its manicured fairways, framed by lush vegetation and complemented by serene water features, every hole is a journey through a landscape where nature and golf coalesce seamlessly. The sparkling waters of the Pumicestone Passage provide a stunning backdrop, creating an idyllic setting for an extraordinary day on the links.

Greg Norman’s design genius is evident in every undulation of Pelican Waters. The layout challenges golfers of all skill levels, demanding strategic play and precision. From elevated tees with panoramic views to meticulously crafted greens, each hole presents a unique test, ensuring both novices and seasoned players find delight and challenge in equal measure.

Peregian Springs Golf Course

Peregian Springs Golf Course is a true golfer’s course. The superb layout over 62 impressive hectares is the work of top Australian designer Phil Scott, father of Adam Scott.

It takes players on an unfolding journey through native bush, stands of eucalyptus trees and strategically situated water. Glimpses of other groups are rare after the opening holes.

The course presents golfers with memorable challenges. From long, narrow par 5s to short par 4s with sloping greens, Peregian Springs Golf Course puts a premium on accuracy and shot making. The course is also well protected by bunkers, positioned to make players think.

Bribie Island Golf Club

The Bribie Island Golf Club offers you an 18 hole championship layout, with undulating fairways, 328 grass greens and a true sand-belt style golfing experience.

It is an easy walking course with plenty of challenges offered by the natural sand bunkers and sandy lies off the fairways. We pride ourselves on providing a great playing surface year round as well as the great southern Queensland tropical climate.

https://bribiegolf.com.au/

Pacific Harbour Golf Club

Conveniently located in the Moreton Bay region between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, is the home of Pacific Harbour Golf and Country Club at Bribie Island. Surrounded by pristine national parks, and inhabited by plenty of local wildlife, this course is one that you’ll want to add to your bucket list!

Operating since 2006 and open to the public, we offer social play 7 days a week and visitors are welcome to play in our competitions. The course boasts lush green fairways, responsive fast paced greens, challenging par-3s, lengthy par-4s and some rewarding par-5s for golfers of all levels. With an aquatic driving range, chipping area, practice green and spectacular views of natural surrounds, this course is a must-see destination. You will not regret coming out and testing your golfing skills on this beautiful hidden treasure!

All the key characteristics of a world-class course have been incorporated: a great layout that tracks the terrain naturally, challenging design and memorable holes, framed by beautiful landscaping which emulates the unique coastal forest environment on Bribie Island.

Water is the central theme of the course and can be seen with many picturesque reflective lakes. Even the clubhouse appears to float over a lake and an aquatic driving range. Ross has cleverly used the wetlands, watercourses and native vegetation in the environmentally friendly and sustainable design, which he calls minimalist turf care principles.

Mt Coolum Golf Club

Mount Coolum’s challenging 18-hole layout sits at the southern foot of the iconic 26-million year-old volcanic peak from which it gets its name, and less than 1km from one of the Sunshine Coast’s pristine beaches.

Our Par 72 course features numerous waterholes and creeks, winding their way through the vast expanses of native vegetation that provides a wonderful sanctuary for the local wildlife.

The Club has a reputation as “the Friendly Club” – with an active and engaged membership exceeding 900 in number.  You will feel welcomed at Mount Coolum – whether you become a member, or are simply a visitor to our region.

Maleny Golf Club

Nestled within the verdant hills of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, the Maleny Golf Club’s quality course provides visitors with a picturesque, ‘golf-as-it-began’ playing experience. From the elevated first tee, players are presented with a panoramic view of the links-style course and an ideal vantage point from which to assess the golfing challenge ahead.

The Par 69 course is comprised of three Par 5s, nine Par 4s and six Par 3s featuring unique revetted greenside bunkering, Tiffdwarf Bermuda Grass greens and Kikuyu fairways within a peaceful, scenic hinterland setting.

Maleny’s innovative design takes full advantage of some excellent natural assets – gentle rolling hills, well-drained volcanic soil, existing pastures, surrounding rainforest and some wetland.

The course has been built to a high standard under the direction of course superintendent Mick McCombe using the latest agronomic technology and know-how. Supported by a band of dedicated volunteers, Mr McCombe has transformed what was once a weed-ridden old dairy farm into a quality golf course praised by all who play it.

EMPLOYEE ENTITLEMENTS FOR PROVISION OF LEAVE

The NES (National Employment Standards) have minimum entitlements for permanent employees to receive leave.

These forms of leave are designed to help an employee deal with personal illness, caring responsibilities, family emergencies, family and domestic violence and the death or serious illness of close family members.

Sick & Carer’s Leave (also known as personal leave)

When can sick and carer’s leave be taken?

An employee can take paid sick leave when they can’t work/are unfit for work because of a personal illness or injury. This can include stress and pregnancy related illnesses.

An employee can take paid carer’s leave to provide care or support to a member of their immediate family or household who is sick, injured or has an unexpected emergency.

A member of immediate family means:

  • Spouse or former spouse
  • De facto partner or former de factor partner
  • Grandparent
  • Sibling, or a
  • Child, parent, grandparent, grandchild or sibling of the employee’s spouse or de factor partner

This definition also includes step relations as well as adoptive relations.

Who gets paid sick and carer’s leave?

All employees except casuals are entitled to paid sick and carer’s leave. Casual employees are entitled to unpaid sick and carer’s leave.

How much paid sick and carer’s leave does an employee get?

Sick and carer’s leave comes under the same leave entitlement. It is also known as personal leave.

Employees get:

  • 10 days each year for full time employees
  • Pro rata of 10 days each year depending on their hours of work for part time employees.

How does paid sick and carer’s leave accumulate?

Full-time and part-time employees accumulate sick and carer’s leave progressively during a year of service. It starts from an employee’s first day of work and is based on the number of ordinary hours they work.

The balance at the end of each year carries over to the next year.

Sick and carer’s leave accumulates when an employee is on:

  • paid leave such as paid annual leave and paid sick and carer’s leave
  • community service including jury duty
  • long service leave

Sick and carer’s leave does not accumulate when an employee is on:

  • unpaid annual leave or unpaid sick and carer’s leave
  • unpaid parental leave
  • unpaid family and domestic violence leave

How much paid sick and carer’s leave can an employee take?

An employee can take as much paid sick or carer’s leave as they have accumulated if they are unfit for work due to illness or injury.

Long periods of sick leave / Protection from dismissal while on sick leave

Employees who are away from work temporarily due to illness or injury may be protected from being dismissed:

To be protected from dismissal during a temporary absence from work:

  • The total time away due to illness or injury must be less than 3 consecutive months, or a total of less than 3 months over a 12-month period
  • Employees can be taking paid, unpaid or a combination of both during their absence
  • Employees need to provide evidence of their illness or injury

An employee is no longer protected from being dismissed (even if they provide evidence) if:

  • The total length of their absence due to illness or injury is more than 3 consecutive months, or a total of more than 3 months over a 12-month period
  • Over that period, they’ve only taken unpaid leave.

*Employees who take a period of sick leave that is paid the whole time are protected from dismissal regardless of how long they’re on leave.

Unpaid Carer’s leave

All employees, including casual employees are entitled to 2 days unpaid carer’s leave.

Employees get 2 days unpaid carer’s leave each time an immediate family member or household member of the employee needs care and support because of:

  • An unexpected emergency

*Full-time and part-time employees can only get unpaid carer’s leave if they don’t have any paid sick/carer’s leave left.

Taking unpaid carer’s leave

Unpaid carer’s leave can be taken:

  • In 1 continuous period (eg. 2 working days in a row), or
  • In separate periods as agreed between the employee and employer (eg. 4 half days may be taken in a row)

Compassionate /Bereavement Leave

All employees (including casual employees) are entitled to compassionate leave (also known as bereavement leave).

Compassionate leave can be taken when a member of an employee’s immediate family or household:

  • contracts or develops a life-threatening illness or injury.

Employees will be able to take compassionate leave for other relatives (eg. Cousins, aunts and uncles) if they are a member of the employee’s household, or if the employer agrees to this.

Amount of Compassionate leave

All employees are entitled to 2 days compassionate leave each time an immediate family or household member dies or suffers a life-threatening illness or injury.

The compassionate leave can be taken as:

  • A single continuous 2-day period, or
  • 2 separate periods of 1 day each, or
  • Any separate periods the employee and employer agree.

An employee does not accumulate compassionate leave and it doesn’t come out of their sick or carer’s leave (or annual leave) balance. It can be taken at any time an employee needs it.

If an employee is already on another type of leave (eg. annual leave) and needs to take compassionate leave, the employee can use compassionate leave instead of the other leave.

Payment of Compassionate leave

Full-time and part-time employees receive paid compassionate leave and casual employees receive unpaid compassionate leave.

Full-time and part-time employees are paid at their base pay rate for the ordinary hours they would have worked during the leave.

Compassionate leave can’t be cashed out.

Notice and Evidence

An employee taking compassionate leave must give their employer notice as soon as they can (this may be after the leave has started).  The employee must tell the employer of the period, or expected period, of the leave as soon as they know it.

An employer can request evidence about the compassionate leave (eg. death/funeral notice or statutory declaration) but the request must be reasonable. The employee may not be paid for the leave if they do not provide the requested notice.

Annual Leave

Annual leave (also known as holiday pay) allows an employee to be paid while having time off from work, and all employees (except for casual employees) get paid annual leave.

Full-time and part-time employees get 4 weeks of annual leave, based on their ordinary hours of work and it is paid at the employee’s base rate of pay for all ordinary hours worked.

How does annual leave accumulate?

Annual leave accumulates from the first day of employment, even if an employee is in a probation period.

The leave accumulates gradually during the year and any unused annual leave will roll over from year to year.

Annual leave accumulates when an employee is on:

Annual leave does not accumulate when an employee is on:

Leave also does not accumulate for a period of annual leave that has been cashed out.

When can annual leave be taken?

Annual leave can be taken as soon as it is accumulated and does not have to be taken each year. It is up to each employer and employee to agree on when and for how long annual leave can be taken.

However, the employer must not unreasonably refuse an employee’s request to take annual leave. There is no minimum or maximum period of annual leave that can be taken.

An employee is not on Annual leave if the period during which an employee takes annual leave:

  • Includes a day or part-day that is a public holiday
  • Includes a period of any other leave (other than unpaid leave), or a period of absence from employment due to community service (eg. jury duty).

Direction to take annual leave / Excessive annual leave

An employer can generally direct an employee to take annual leave, but only if the requirement is considered reasonable. For example:

  • the employee has an excessive annual leave balance (eg. 8 weeks of annual leave or more)
  • the employer’s business is being shut down for a period (such as Christmas and New Year).

The needs of the employee and the employer need to be taken into consideration as well as the timing, and length of the period of notice given.

Can annual leave be cashed out?

An employer and employee may come to an agreement to cash out annual leave, however the following should always apply:

  • The employee must retain at least 4 weeks annual leave (unless a smaller leave balance is agreed to by the employer
  • There must be a signed, written agreement with their employer on each occasion that outlines the amount of leave being cashed out, the amount they will be paid and the date it will be paid
  • The payment for the cashed out leave must be the same as what the employee would have bene paid if they took the leave

Family and domestic violence leave

An employee (including a casual employee) is entitled to five days of unpaid family and domestic violence leave each year.

Employees are entitled to the full five days from the day they start work. They don’t have to build it over time.

The five days renew each 12 months but do not accumulate from year to year if not used.

Employees can take the leave if they need to do something to deal with the impact of family and domestic violence and its impractical to do so outside of their ordinary hours of work

For example, this could include:

  • Making arrangements for their safety, or safety of a family member (including relocation)
  • Attending court hearings
  • Accessing police services.

This leave doesn’t need to be taken all at once and can be taken as single or multiple days.

An employer and employee can also agree for an employee to take less than one day at a time, or for the employee to take more than five days.

Notice and evidence requirements

An employer can ask their employee for evidence that shows the employee took the leave to deal with family and domestic violence. If the employee doesn’t provide the requested evidence, they may not be granted the leave.

The evidence has to convince a reasonable person that the employee took the leave to deal with the impact of domestic violence

Types of evidence can include:

  • Documents issued by the police
  • Documents issued by a court
  • Family violence support service documents, or
  • a statutory declaration

Employers can ask employees to provide evidence for as little as one day or less off work.

Confidentiality

Employers have to take reasonable steps to keep any information about an employee’s situation confidential, when they receive it as part of an application for leave.

Employers need to be aware that any information about an employee’s experience of family or domestic violence is sensitive and if mishandled, it could have adverse consequences for their employee. Employers should work with the employee to discuss and agree on how the information will be handled.

However…

Employers are not prevented from disclosing information if:

  • It’s required by law, or
  • is necessary to protect the life, health or safety of the employee or another person.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the best way to see most of the Gold Coast? Seeing most of the Gold Coast is dependent upon how much time you have and what transport you have arranged. One of the easier and most flexible ways to explore the Gold Coast is to hire a car and set up the satellite navigation system to guide you to some of our most notable attractions. We recommend you call into a Visitor Information Centre for suggestions and directions before you depart, which will ensure you maximise the time you have to explore. But if you are considering joining a tour, consider focusing on a certain area of the Gold Coast - such as the Gold Coast Hinterland, and by exploring beside a local, you’re likely to learn so much more than if you head out on your own.
  • How do I get to the Great Barrier Reef from the Gold Coast? One of the Gold Coast’s best-kept secrets is that a one-of-a-kind day tour departs from the Gold Coast Airport to reach the southernmost tip of the Great Barrier Reef at Lady Elliot Island. It’s an early start, but you may see first light illuminate the Surfers Paradise skyline before marvelling at spectacular views of Moreton and Fraser Islands as you track towards Lady Elliot Island. This tiny coral cay is on the Southern Great Barrier Reef, and with a day to explore, join a guided snorkel safari in clear waters to hover over vibrant corals and meet some of the curious creatures that call the Great Barrier Reef home. You’ll likely see sea turtles, myriad fish and perhaps even some majestic manta rays. A sumptuous buffet lunch is included also, and time to join a fish feeding tour and admire nesting sea birds (in season). Enjoy an equally scenic flight home and land on the Gold Coast in time for dinner.
  • How do I arrange to go on a whale-watching tour? There are several Gold Coast operators providing whale watching tours, which run seasonally (late May to October) departing from many locations including Surfers Paradise, Main Beach and Runaway Bay. Some consider the best time for whale watching to be August, which is the peak time for whale migration and when mating season is in full swing. All whale watching cruises follow the same route, and tours work with each other to advise when a whale is spotted so everyone has the best chance of seeing these magnificent creatures. Whales can also easily be spotted from the shore at some of the Gold Coast’s headlands including Burleigh, Currumbin and Point Danger and during whale season, if you are underwater, you may also hear them singing.
  • What are the best Indigenous experiences on the Gold Coast? Connect deeply to the Gold Coast’s ancient Indigenous culture on a walking tour guided by traditional custodians of the Yugambeh language group at Dreaming Mountain (Jellurgal), located at the base of Burleigh Headland. Be welcomed onto country by traditional owners and listen to dreaming stories that share the creation of Jellurgal, while following a rainforest fringed walkway learning about traditional life, spotting bush tucker and native Australian animals and discovering the deep spiritual connection Yugambeh peoples have with country. Visit the Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre’s Art Gallery to admire stunning Indigenous art and artefacts including boomerangs, null nullas and dilly bags and visit the gift shop after to take home a unique souvenir. Kids-specific Walkabout Tours are available on school holidays.
  • What are the most unique tours you can do on the Gold Coast? You’ll find some of our more unique tours located in the Gold Coast Hinterland, which is easily accessed on a day trip from the Gold Coast. From visiting caves filled with glowworms, having a picnic date with an alpaca and sampling liquors from the oldest craft Distillery in Queensland that holds the enviable record of the most awards achieved in Australia this century! If staying closer to the coast is your preference, there’s plenty to do. Hop aboard a scenic city tour that turns into an immersive aqua adventure on a purpose-built amphibious tour bus. Join a whale watching tour to see the Humpback Highway at close range or join a jet-ski tour to explore our beautiful waterways.
  • Are there any tours that offer accessible options? Accessibility is an integral part of the Gold Coast visitor experience and there's a wide range of tours that cater for all abilities. From whale watching, jet boating, theme park visits, wildlife encounters, cruises and skydiving - to name just a few. Planning is key, and online information is readily available on most tour operator websites, however, we would also suggest calling ahead to speak to the tour organiser to discuss the assistance you may need and ensure the tour you are interested in is suitable for you. You can find more information in the official  Queensland Government Accessibility Guide to the Gold Coast  to help with planning the perfect holiday to the Gold Coast.
  • What are the best tours to do with families on the Gold Coast? Families are well catered for on the Gold Coast, with several exciting tours on offer that will thrill kids and adults alike. From unique animal encounters and behind-the-scenes tours to the chance to become a ranger for a day at our animal sanctuaries to hosting an alpaca picnic. Complete thrilling tree top challenges, take a river cruise and whale watch or see glow worms light up a cave at night. There are also family surf lessons to try, escape rooms to conquer and private tours that can build your family the perfect itinerary with the time you have available to explore, so you can sit back, relax and enjoy quality time together.
  • What’s the best way to see the Gold Coast Hinterland? A number of tours depart from the Gold Coast and take the scenic hour-long drive to the Gold Coast Hinterland which offers a completely different experience to the coast. Depending on your tour preferences, you can arrange a visit to the ancient Gondwana rainforest, watch waterfalls tumble, embark on a bush walk, step into caves illuminated by glowworms and feast on fabulous fresh local fare. The Gold Coast Hinterland is where most of our vineyards live, so a winery tour will take you on a pleasant day of cellar door tastings and gorging on gourmet goodies for lunch, or perhaps you’d like to take a hot air balloon flight that concludes with a champagne breakfast? All is possible on the GC.
  • Is there a central place I can go to book my tours? Yes, you’ll find two Visitor Information Centres located on the Gold Coast. One at the Gold Coast Airport and another on Cavill Ave in Surfers Paradise. Friendly assistants can help you find the perfect tours that will suit the length of time you are staying and also, suggest activities you might like to try. Bookings for tours can also be made at these Visitor Information Centres and a range of brochures, itineraries and options are available for you to peruse and take with you if you are not ready to decide.
  • Can I book a tour that has guides that speak my language? Yes, JPT Tours provides tours to all the most popular Gold Coast attractions with English, Japanese, and Chinese-speaking guides, plus other languages on request. From arranging your airport transfers to your hotel, tours on the ground while you are visiting and helping you to make the most of your stay, the friendly team at JPT will be happy to assist you.

Trans golfer Hailey Davidson banned from women’s pro tour

A women’s pro tour has changed its transgender rules, leading to the banning of a golfer currently second in its standings.

Transgender golfer believes men are physically stronger than women

Don't miss out on the headlines from Golf. Followed categories will be added to My News.

Transgender golfer Hailey Davidson has spoken out after the NXXT Women’s Pro Tour announced on Friday (Saturday AEDT) eligible participants must be “a biological female at birth” in order to compete in its events, effectively banning Davidson from all future competitions.

Davidson, who recently won at the NXXT Women’s Classic in January, addressed the policy update in a post on Instagram Stories, as the New York Post reports .

“Effective immediately, I have been removed (banned) from the next 3 NXXT tournaments that I already signed up for and been approved to play,” Davidson wrote.

“They changed their policy mid season, after me signing up already and being 2nd in Player of the Year race.”

The victory at the Women’s Classic on January 18 marked Davidson’s first victory in more than two years and, at the time, put the golfer in first place to earn an Epson Tour exemption at the end of the season.

But the tour faced massive backlash, prompting it to release a statement clarifying its then-policy and Davidson’s eligibility.

“The NXXT Women’s Pro Tour’s policies, especially concerning gender, have been formulated in alignment with those of the LPGA and USGA. This approach is crucial in maintaining the integrity of our partnership with the LPGA and ensuring a fair and consistent competitive environment. When Hailey Davidson joined the tour, she complied with these policies by providing necessary documentation, including validation from the LPGA and USGA, which also facilitated her participation in the 2022 Q-School,” the statement said.

The tour said it would be polling players on the policy.

Then on Friday, NXXT GOLF CEO Stuart McKinnon released a statement announcing a policy change that would make any competitor that was not “a biological female at birth” ineligible to participate.

They announced this decision on International Women's Day. “As we navigate through the evolving landscape of sports, it is crucial to uphold the competitive integrity that is the cornerstone of women’s sports,” McKinnon said.

“Our revised policy is a reflection of our unwavering commitment to celebrating and protecting the achievements and opportunities of female athletes.

“Protected categories are a fundamental aspect of sports at all levels, and it is essential for our Tour to uphold these categories for biological females, ensuring a level playing field.

“The NXXT Women’s Pro Tour declined to comment specifically on Davidson’s remarks.

Kelly Slater Seen Surfing Gold Coast After Supertubos Injury Withdrawal

Last week, Kelly Slater pulled out of the MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal , citing ongoing hip issues. Since then, the 11-time champion has been spotted surfing Australia’s Gold Coast, and he looks pretty good out there.

“Still dealing with hip recovery and still in pain with basic mobility,” Slater wrote in a now-expired Instagram story, explaining his reasoning behind the withdrawal. “Thanks for the messages from the Portuguese fans and apologies I won’t be seeing you at Supertubos. Hoping to feel better for Bells (the first event I surfed as a full-time tour surfer in 1992). Fingers crossed @wsl scores some good waves in Portugal and good luck to everyone.”

The issue stems from way back in 2022, when he injured his hip surfing Bells Beach. As a result, Slater underwent an extensive surgery to repair the joint. He explained that doctors“[Did] a labrum reconstruction, removed scar tissue and bone spurs on femoral head, shaved the socket joint, and removed bone pieces and foreign objects floating in the joint.”

The significant surgery kept Kelly land-bound for three months afterwards, while he did is best to recover. By the time winter rolled around, he appeared to be back in action, having been spotted putting his hip through its paces at Pipeline .

However, the ghost of injuries past apparently reappeared just before the CT event at Supertubos, leading to the aforementioned withdrawal. Rather than competing, Slater was relegated to undergoing a series of medical tests. Meanwhile, Peniche’s Matias Canhoto took his place as a local wildcard.

Just six days later, though, he’s been spotted whipping turns on the Gold Coast. Australian drone operator Skymonkey5 caught the action, in which the Floridian hall of famer was looking pretty spry for someone who was “struggling with basic mobility.” Of course, there are many possible explanations for the apparent rebound, but that didn’t stop speculation from internet commenters that he simply used the old injury to skip out on Supertubos’ decidedly lackluster conditions this week.

Honestly, if true, who could blame him?

Warning: this episode contains descriptions of violence and self harm.

Last fall, an Army reservist killed 18 people at a bowling alley and restaurant in Lewiston, Maine, before turning the gun on himself.

Dave Philipps, who covers military affairs for The Times, had already been investigating the idea that soldiers could be injured just by firing their own weapons. Analyzing the case of the gunman in Lewiston, Dave explains, could change our understanding of the effects of modern warfare on the human brain.

On today’s episode

Dave Philipps , who covers war, the military and veterans for The New York Times.

Two people wearing military uniforms stand on a cement platform. One of them is throwing a grenade into a wooded area.
