Tour Highlights

tour de bergen

The Nærøyfjord

The Nærøyfjord is the narrowest and best-known of the many arms of the Sognefjord. Surrounded by towering mountains up to 1,700 meters high, this arm of the Sognefjord is amazingly beautiful. With its steep mountainsides, hanging valleys, towering peaks, waterfalls, and small hamlets, this fjord is perhaps the most outstanding natural attraction in Norway. The Nærøyfjord is 20 km long, only 250 meters across at its narrowest and a mere 12 meters at its shallowest. The surrounding mountains reach heights of 1,660 meters, and the fjord is one of the multiple highlights on several of our tours.

tour de bergen

The Aurlandsfjord

The Aurlandsfjord is a 17-kilometer arm of the world’s second-longest fjord, the Sognefjord, and starts in Flåm and ends at the mountain Beitelen, which separates the Aurlandsfjord from the Nærøyfjord. Together with the Nærøyfjord, the Aurlandsfjord is one of the most picturesque fjords in the world. This stunning fjord is a part of the World Heritage area and is surrounded by high mountains that reach heights of over 1,400 meters.

tour de bergen

The Flåmsbana Railway

Flåmsbana or Flåm Railway  is a spectacular train journey that offers a panoramic view of some of the wildest and most magnificent nature in the Norwegian fjord landscape. The 20 km-long train ride took 20 years to build and is one of the steepest standard gauge railway lines in the world. On the train ride that operates between Myrdal and Flåm, you can see rivers cutting through deep ravines, waterfalls cascading down the side of steep, snow-capped mountains, and mountain farms clinging dizzily to sheer slopes.

tour de bergen

The Bergen Railway

The Bergen Railway is the 500-kilometer-long railway line between Bergen and Oslo. It has several times been named one of the world's best railway experiences.

The Bergen Railway is Northern Europe's highest stretch of railway and crosses both the Langfjellene mountains and the Hardangervidda mountain plateau, with Finse as the highest station at 1222 meters.

Norway Fjord Trekking Tour

Norway Fjord Trekking

I LOVED this tour!! It was pricey but that's just what Norway costs. We did four hikes in total throughout the trip and they all had different challenges and amazing scenery, and they were well spaced with a rest day before the final Trolltunga hike. I'd say anyone in reasonable shape should be fine for this tour - there were some spots with steep rocks and we had to use a rope to help pull ourselves up, but you definitely don't need any advanced hiking or climbing skills. Our guide, Karl, was really friendly and knowledgeable, giving us lots of fun facts about Norway and the regions we were in. 100% would recommend this tour!

Magic of the Fjords Tour

Magic of the Fjords

The experience in Norway was fantastic - from the wonderful landscapes to the activities to the food and accommodations. The tour guide (Marina) was knowledgeable, engaging, and extremely helpful to ensure the trip was as smooth and fun as possible. The itinerary was engaging and there was so much beauty to see in Norway.

Walking the Fjords Tour

  • Mountain Hikes

Walking the Fjords

A great experience with a variety of beautiful and breathtaking hiking and touring environments, including the classic waterway fjords, river valleys, raging waterfalls, stark tundra and glacial environments, as well as stops at hiking huts and local landmarks.. The tour had two guides, the veteran Asbjorn and young Lucas, to whom Asbjorn is turning over the guide responsibilities. Both are proud of their region of Norway, knowledgeable tour guides, and enthusiastic hikers in the area. The guides rearranged the schedule of hiking events to take advantage of the changing weather day by day. During the entire week, the guides unobtrusively evaluated the capabilities of the tour participants, and ensured that each hiker had a safe experience. They thoughtfully provided welcome coffee and tea for lunches on the trail. The hiking is moderately strenuous if you're fit, some parts more rigorous if you're not. Take the advice about waterproof hiking boots seriously - you will be stepping in mud and shallow water repeatedly as the trails frequently cross wet areas and small streams. Clothing for cold/windy/rainy weather is a must, as well. The optional glacier walk run by a commercial operator, involves a rather long and risky hike to the glacier face, and fairly steep paths on the glacier itself; it's not for the faint of heart. Nes Gard is a lovely accommodation, with comfortable rooms, friendly and capable staff, and delicious meals in a dining setting that encourages tour participants to get to know each other. Substantial breakfasts prepared us for a day of physical activity and provided material for a take-along lunch. Dinners were formal three-course affairs with different menu each day, proudly announced at the beginning of each dinner by an efficient staff. The days were fully scheduled with hiking and touring activities, and evenings were filled with dinner and briefings on the next day's activities - there were only a couple of hours per day to relax. Overall, a well-organized, well-planned, tightly-managed experience in a beautiful setting, run by a staff that is dedicated to providing their guests with a great experience.

The hotel in Bergen was in a great spot so that we could get to the ferry easily as was the hotel in Balestrand. It was a long day from Balestrand to Oslo with the scenery on the ferry, the Flam railway and the trains stunning. It was very good that there was a bus to take us from the station in Oslo to the hotel. The tours of Bergen and Oslo were excellent and the tour guide excellent. We were so lucky with the weather. Norway is the undisputed king of fjords, with more than 1,100 of these beautiful geological features scattered along the vast coastline. You will find fjords pretty much wherever you go, but a handful of them are extra special and definitely worth seeking out.

From Bergen, you have the opportunity to visit Norway’s two largest fjords, the Sognefjord and the Hardangerfjord. Guided Fjord Tours arranges day tours to several destinations in these areas daily from Bergen. We are ready in all seasons to guide you through the most beautiful landscape in the world.

Definitely recommend doing this if you don't have more time to explore the beautiful surroundings of Bregen. Norway is just amazing.

We had a fabulous trip up the fjords crew were lovely and it was managed very well and adjusted according to the weather conditions we thoroughly enjoyed the experience well worth it.

This trip leaves from close to the fish market in the centre of Bergen. The fast catamaran quickly gets you to the narrower part of the fjord where the views are simply breathtaking. We stood outside for much of the trip, but they sell reasonably priced hot drinks on board to warm you up. Highlights are the whirlpools and waterfalls at the far end at Mostraumen.

We had a great time with our tour guide Frode, he was excellent, very knowledgeable and great conversationalist. I highly would recommend this tour for anyone looking to enjoy great views and a delicious lunch.
