One Day Kolkata to Gangasagar Trip by Car Header

Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal is one of the country’s youngest cities. As a harbour city and the capital of British India from 1772 to 1911, formerly known as Calcutta, it drew people from all across the country. The city truly endures and remains true to its character i.e. culturally vibrant and diverse.

From worshipping Mother Durga to eating mouth-watery roshgullas, people often travel taking a one-day trip from Kolkata to Gangasagar by car to enjoy the unusual beaches.

In the old days, people had to travel by boats all the way from Kolkata to Gangasagar. Today, with our one day tour you can reach Gangasagar in no time and experience the dazzling silver sand and enjoy the breeze. The way to Gangasagar is also a treat to watch with beautiful huts neatly built with a side of little ponds.

Watching hundreds of pilgrims taking a dip in the sea will give you goosebumps and encourage you to take a dip into the holy water yourself.

The holy dip is assumed to purify people from their sins and provide them Moksha – freedom from the afterlife. Every year during Makar Sankranti pilgrims from all over the country come to take a holy dip at the confluence of the river Ganges and Bay of Bengal, followed by offering prayers at the Kapil Muni Temple.

Another popular attraction of this place is Sagar Mela but you can visit this place before or after the festival. Take a One Day Trip from Kolkata to Gangasagar by private car to spend a relaxing peaceful day.

Tours And Travels

This phrase shares the essence of Gangasagar that course through the minds of the devotees who have been through this larger-than-life experience. Legends say that the journey to Gangasagar was interlaced with dangers at every step. The devotees had to pass a jungle of wonders where the land had the danger of Tigers and the waters were frequented by crocodiles. Yet, every year they all embarked on this holy journey to the south-most point of island at least once in the life time in search for moksha. This brings up the notion “Sab Tirth Bar Bar, Gangasagar Ekbar". However, now through immense planning and development by the administration this pilgrimage has become much safe and secure. Millions visit the mela ground and take a dip in the holy waters to rid their lives of their worries and attain nirvana

  • adb8a 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Expert, fun guide with Muzaffar! Muzaffar was the best guide! He gave us an exclusive look into the main sites and behind scenes views of a fabulous city. With good spirits and tremendous knowledge, he nagivated us through places like the post office, flower market, coffee house, and suspension bridge, St. Paul's, and held space for me to spend extra time at the Missionaries of Charity. He connected great with my buddy and I as Americans. He is a world-class tour guide, getting asked to tour the next day with a government ministry team. • Trip720774 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles An Excellent Tour With only one day to explore the sites of Kolkata, I decided to take a full-day tour of the city. It was my good fortune to connect with tour guide, Muzaffar Khan. Mr. Khan is a fifth-generation resident of Kolkata who is intimately familiar with the sites, culture, and history of this amazing city. Muzaffar is very personable and engaging. He provided a wealth of information and context for the many historical sites we visited. He also was most accommodating and adjusted our schedule to include a stop by Kalighat Kali Temple based on our personal interest, as well as providing advice about navigating the temple throngs. I could not recommend him as a tour guide more highly. I will make sure any of my friends who visit Kolkata take a tour with Muzaffar. Read more Written 29 January 2024
  • aygulsonkaya 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles An Unforgettable Exploration of Kolkata with Mr. Muzaffar Khan" We recently embarked on a tour of Kolkata with Mr. Muzaffar Khan, and it was a wonderful experience. Spending the day with Muzaffar was like meeting up with an old friend. Kolkata has a hidden charm that's hard to discover, but Muzaffar knows all the exquisite spots. His knowledge is vast, and his care for his guests is evident. Muzaffar never rushed us and always ensured we felt we had all the time we needed to fully absorb each place. His expertise in the city's history is impressive, and he shares insights about the culture with great enthusiasm. While there's a fixed itinerary included in the tour, Muzaffar went the extra mile to customize the route based on our interests, making the day even more special. I compared many tours before making my choice, and I am delighted with my decision. Muzaffar's tour is a journey through the city and into the heart of Kolkata's rich history and culture. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to explore the city through the eyes of someone who truly knows it. Read more Written 29 January 2024
  • nicolekL4749NN 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles The best tour in Kolkata! Muzaffar is truly the best! On the tour side, he is extremely knowledgeable about Kolkata and all the places we visited. I loved asking questions to dig more deeply into history and culture. Adding on the food tasting option was the right choice, too! On the personal end, I am travelling with my brother, who unfortunately fell prey to “Delhi Belly” from the previous night. And wasn’t able to complete the tour with me. Muzaffar showed genuine compassion and quickly made the needed arrangements to get my brother back to the hotel and continued the tour with just me. He even checked in on my brother this morning. Although it didn’t go as planned for my poor brother, I had an incredible experience and saw parts of Kolkata I wouldn’t have found on my own. It was worth every penny, step, and deliciousness along the way! Read more Written 25 January 2024

We had booked a entire 4 days trip with Muzzafar which was very well planned and executed by Muzzafar. I think he is the second popular figure in Kolkatta post Didi .. on a lighter note but wherever we went people were welcoming us with a smile on their face when they meet us along with Muzaffar. Indeed a very knowledgeable person and a great story teller. We got to know so much about Bengal n Kolkatta like never before. Also to add to this the day trip to Gangasagar was supposed to be very tiring but with him and his car n the driver it was all fun. All our 4 days in Kolkatta n Gangasagar were memorable. We felt like we now know and understand something about the past history in a right way and how it is related to the current day life. further to add some cherry to our trip let me tell you Muzaffar is a great host …. We had so much to eat all along the journey ( he will make you eat some superb local delicacies and take you to some of the best restaurant’s also to the best roadside chai n zhalmuri shops ) also he adds so much to laugh at with his witty one liners. He is one of very few, best tour guides/storyteller or host whatever you call it …we have ever come across. I would strongly recommend Muzzafar for your next trip Kolkatta or anywhere in Bengal. Behind Apple’s Doomed Car Project: False Starts and Wrong Turns

Internal disagreements over the direction of the Apple car led the effort to sputter for years before it was canceled this week.

A dark glass facade of an Apple store.

By Brian X. Chen and Tripp Mickle

Brian X. Chen and Tripp Mickle have been writing about Apple’s car project since its infancy.

For the last decade, many Apple employees working on the company’s secretive car project, internally code-named Titan, had a less flattering name for it: the Titanic disaster. They knew the project was likely to fail.

Throughout its existence, the car effort was scrapped and rebooted several times, shedding hundreds of workers along the way. As a result of dueling views among leaders about what an Apple car should be, it began as an electric vehicle that would compete against Tesla and morphed into a self-driving car to rival Google’s Waymo.

By the time of its death — Tuesday, when executives announced internally that the project was being killed and that many members of the team were being reassigned to work on artificial intelligence — Apple had burned more than $10 billion on the project and the car had reverted to its beginnings as an electric vehicle with driving-assistance features rivaling Tesla’s, according to a half dozen people who worked on the project over the past decade.

The car project’s demise was a testament to the way Apple has struggled to develop new products in the years since Steve Jobs’s death in 2011. The effort had four different leaders and conducted multiple rounds of layoffs. But it festered and ultimately fizzled in large part because developing the software and algorithms for a car with autonomous driving features proved too difficult.

Apple declined to comment.

“When it started, it was aligning the stars on something Apple alone could hit a home run on,” said Bryant Walker Smith, an associate professor at the schools of law and engineering at the University of South Carolina, who spoke to Apple briefly about its project in 2015. “A decade later, the stars have realigned to make this a lot of risk and not a lot of gain.”

When Apple launched its car project in 2014 , it was among a stampede of investors, executives, engineers and companies chasing the idea of a self-driving car. After Google began testing prototypes on public roads in California , voices across Silicon Valley insisted that autonomous vehicles would soon be commonplace. Apple didn’t want to be left behind.

At the time, the company was dealing with questions from its top engineers about its next project, according to three people familiar with the project’s origins. It had just finished the Apple Watch, and many engineers were restless to begin work on something new. Tim Cook, Apple’s chief executive, approved the project in part to prevent an exodus of engineers to Tesla.

Apple also needed to find new ways to expand its business. The company was anticipating that sales of iPhones would slow in the coming years. Cars were part of a $2 trillion transportation industry that could help Apple, which by then was a nearly $200 billion business.

Despite having a vote of confidence from Apple’s chief executive, members of the team knew they were working against harsh realities, according to the six employees familiar with the project. If it ever came to market, an Apple car was likely to cost at least $100,000 and still generate razor-thin profit compared with smartphones and earbuds. It would also arrive years after Tesla had dominated the market.

The company held some discussions with Elon Musk about acquiring Tesla, according to two people familiar with the talks. But ultimately, it decided that building its own car made more sense than buying and integrating another business.

Mr. Musk did not respond to a request for comment.

From its inception, the project was troubled by differing views on what it should be, the people familiar with it said. Steve Zadesky, who initially led the effort, wanted to build an electric vehicle that competed with Tesla. Jony Ive, Apple’s chief design officer, wanted to pursue a self-driving car, which members of the software team said could be done.

Apple, which by then had $155 billion in cash, spent lavishly to hire hundreds of people with experience in machine learning, a type of A.I. technology, and other capabilities crucial to making a self-driving car. The influx of people made the project among the first that Apple had developed with so many outsiders new to the company’s culture.

The car team, composed of more than 2,000 employees by this year, included engineers who had worked for NASA and developed racecars for Porsche.

The group developed an array of new technologies, including a windshield that could display turn-by-turn directions and a sunroof that would feature special polymer to reduce heat from the sun.

To bolster morale and guidance, star executives like Mr. Ive and the head of Mac engineering, Bob Mansfield, got involved. The company acquired several start-ups to join the car team. In 2021, to steer the project toward success, Apple put Kevin Lynch, the executive behind its popular Apple Watch, in charge of the car.

Mr. Ive and his team of designers drew concepts for a car that would look like a European minivan such as the Fiat Multipla 600, which has a half-dozen windows and a curving roof. It had no steering wheel and would be controlled using Apple’s virtual assistant, Siri.

One day, in the fall of 2015, Mr. Ive and Mr. Cook met at the project’s headquarters in Sunnyvale, Calif., for a demonstration of how the car might work. The two men sank into the seats of a cabinlike interior. Outside, a voice actor read from a script of what Siri would say as the men zoomed down the road in the imaginary car. Mr. Ive asked Siri what restaurant they passed and the actor read an answer, said two people familiar with the demonstration.

But by 2016, it was clear that the car effort was in trouble. Mr. Zadesky left Apple, and his successor, Mr. Mansfield, told the team working on the project that they would be shifting their focus from building a car to building self-driving car software, said three people familiar with the shift.

Apple secured permits from California to begin test-driving Lexus sport utility vehicles outfitted with sensors and computers. It held discussions with car makers such as BMW, Nissan and Mercedes-Benz before striking a deal with Volkswagen to provide Transporter vans for self-driving shuttles on Apple’s campus.

Two more leaders took over the car effort in the years that followed. Doug Field, a former Tesla executive, laid off more than 200 employees on the project as he leaned into efforts to build its self-driving system. Then Mr. Lynch, who succeeded him in recent years, reversed the company’s plans and went back to its original idea of making an electric vehicle.

Mr. Mansfield and Mr. Field didn’t respond to requests for comment.

At the start of this year, Apple’s leadership decided that it was a better use of the company’s time to work on generative A.I. rather than the car, the company told employees in an internal meeting on Tuesday . The company said some members of the Project Titan team would be reassigned to work on artificial intelligence.

In interviews on Wednesday with The New York Times, people who worked on the project praised the decision to shutter it, saying the technology behind generative A.I. could be invaluable to the future of the company’s all-important iPhone business.

Apple’s dead car project will be survived by its underlying technologies. The company plans to take what it has learned about artificial intelligence and automation and apply it to other technologies that are being researched, including A.I.-powered AirPods with cameras, robot assistants and augmented reality, according to three people briefed on the projects.

Though the engineers working on automation software will get to work on artificial intelligence projects, others on the car team have been told they will need to apply for different roles at the company.

Counting CARS: 3 Takeaways from the CARS Tour Pro Late Model Season Opener

LUCAMA, N.C – The new era of the zMAX CARS Tour is officially underway, as the Pro Late Model division hit the track for the first time in 2024 this past Saturday (March 2) at Southern National Motorsports Park. The pro’s season opener saw a stacked field, and it was Kyle Campbell who picked up his first career win with the series at race’s end.

The race marked the beginning of season three for the Pro Late Models, as the series came into existence ahead of the 2022 season replacing the former Super Late Model Series for the Tour. For the second year in a row, the season kicked off at Southern National, this time with a much larger car count than the 2023 season opener.

With the third largest car count the series has ever seen, a first time winner, and some unfortunate circumstances out west, its now time to shift our focus to the Late Model Stock car division next Saturday (March 9). Here are three of the biggest takeaways from the Pro Late Model season opener.

A Win for the Underdogs

For any series, especially one that has struggled to find its footing at times, having some consistent front runners in every race, a group of drivers that you can count on to give the fans a show, is extremely important. However, it’s always nice to see someone new take one for the underdogs.

That is exactly what Campbell did this past Saturday at Southern National. Not only did Campbell pick up his first career win in what was his twelfth start with the series, he did so in convincing fashion.

Campbell started off the day strong, laying down a fast lap in qualifying that had the family owned No. 03 lined up outside the second row in fourth. At the drop of the green flag for the 100 lap feature, Campbell maintained his position inside the top five, all the while taking care of his equipment in order to have something left at the end.

An early caution allowed him to line up outside the front row on the ensuing restart, and he made the most of the opportunity, jumping down to the bottom line in the second position. Campbell was able to maintain the second position on the second restart of the day at lap 35, as the field then settled in for a long green flag run.

After multiple laps of hounding the rear bumper of then race leader Kris Wright , Campbell was able to get underneath the No. 20 entering turn three, and take the lead for the first time on lap 67. From there, Campbell set the pace for the rest of the way, fighting off Kaden Honeycutt on the final restart with 20 laps to go.

Ultimately, Campbell brought the No. 03 home for his first career win with the series, nearly 1.8 seconds clear of second place finisher Jimmy Renfrew , and the feel good story ended with an emotional victory lane celebration on the front straightaway.

Not only was this Campbell’s first career win, it was the first time he had even led a lap in the series, making it that much more meaningful for the family operation to find themselves in victory lane for the first time. It’s always nice to have a feel good story, especially when that team is never guaranteed to be at the racetrack.

“I’m with the CARS Tour full time this year, as long as our budget allows,” Campbell said. “I think we can make it out to all the races as long as the car stays in one piece.”

Well, he certainly kept the car clean, and put it in victory lane as an added bonus. He’ll leave Southern National with the points lead, setting the team up nicely for a title run should they be able to run the full season.

Shoutout to the Car Count

How about the turnout in the pits for the season opener?

After two seasons, the Pro Late Model division has had some high points along with some low ones, and many wondered how the series would progress in its third season, as the new era of the series begins to take form.

The answer we got this past Saturday at Southern National was all positive. 28 cars were on the entry list for the event, and all 28 started the feature, making it the third highest car count the series has ever seen.

The series record is a whopping 53, a record that was set at North Wilkesboro Speedway in 2023, followed by the 29 cars that showed up to the spring event at Hickory Motor Speedway also during the 2023 season. This weekend’s race comes up one car short of that, but still starts the series off on the right foot for what looks to be the most competitive season yet for the pro’s.

In fact, 10 of the 28 cars on the entry list made their first start ever, with multiple others making only their second or third start, further signifying the growth that the series has seen even over this past off season.

What separates this race from last season’s race at Hickory is the lack of wrecks we saw at Southern National. While only 18 of 29 cars finished the race at Hickory in 2023, only one car left the opener at Southern National with significant damage: the No. 4 of Adam Murray .

For a series that tends to sort of fall off the rails sometimes when it comes to on-track incidents, its a positive sign to see a clean race with this many cars. Will this continue throughout the season? Time will tell, the same as it will tell whether or not higher car counts are here to stay.

However, one thing is for certain, and its that unlike 2023, the series has started off in the right direction for 2024.

The West Will Have to Wait

On the other side of the country, the all-new zMAX CARS Tour Pro Late Model West Series was also scheduled to make its debut this past Saturday, but mother nature had other plans.

The series was supposed to take center stage Saturday night following the racing on the east coast, set for a 100-lap main event at Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway in Bakersfield, Calif. However, with inclement weather on the horizon, series officials elected to make the call well in advance to postpone the inaugural event to a later date.

The series will still debut at Kern Raceway, with the event now scheduled to run Saturday night on March 16, so fans will only have to wait two more weeks for the highly anticipated debut of the Tour’s West expansion.

The zMAX CARS Tour Late Model Stock Cars will be in action this Saturday, March 9, for its season opener at Southern National Motorsports Park. Meanwhile, the Pro Late Models are now off until it heads to Hickory Motor Speedway on Saturday, April 6, and the aforementioned Pro Late Models West will be in action at Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway on March 16.

Day Trip Guide

Comparing destinations: which one is right for you.

I’m always on the lookout for fun day trips from San Jose that can satisfy my wanderlust.

As a tech geek, one of my favorite destinations is Silicon Valley.

The place oozes innovation.

You can almost feel the creativity in the air, and visiting the tech giants like Google and Apple is priceless.

It’s a massive playground for the intellectually curious, but it’s not all code and gadgets.

There’s an unexpected dash of culture, too, with fascinating museums and delicious international cuisines.

Another destination that I love is Muir Woods.

It’s a national park that preserves some of the oldest and tallest trees in the world.

Imagine breathing in the crisp, eucalyptus-scented air while wandering amidst towering redwoods.

It’s a tranquil escape from the city rush, a total soul-soother.

Now, San Francisco is the quintessential city experience.

From the iconic Golden Gate Bridge to the quirky charm of Pier 39, it’s a city that never stops surprising.

Where else can you ride a historic cable car, then turn a corner and find a gourmet sourdough bakery?

All three destinations are within an hour or two from San Jose, so they’re perfect for a day trip.

But they’re also very different from each other, so it depends on what you’re looking for.

Do you want to be inspired by innovation, reconnect with nature, or experience diversity?

Where will your adventure begin?

How I Picked The Destinations

Choosing the perfect day trip destination from San Jose was a challenging task, but I’ve got you covered.

As a resident of California, I know the state like the back of my hand.

I’ve experienced these gems firsthand, combining my personal explorations with extensive research and conversations with locals.

I handpicked these destinations because they offer something unique and unforgettable.

Bud Cauley comes full circle since injury, takes solo lead at Cognizant Classic

Change Text Size

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – When Bud Cauley returned to PGA TOUR golf last month after more than three years away from the game, he did it believing he could win again.

It’s one thing to think about. It’s another thing to actually do it.

Cauley’s proof is playing out at the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches. Cauley fired a second-round 65 at PGA National to jump into the solo 36-hole lead at 11-under overall.

“There were a lot of times where I thought that my career was over,” Cauley said Friday.

Following surgery and recovery, Cauley returned to the TOUR in the fall of 2018 and played two full TOUR seasons, keeping his card both years. But his right side began to hurt again in fall 2020, causing him to step away. The time since has been mostly colored with doctor’s visits and physiotherapy clinics. He has had “a couple more surgeries that didn’t heal very well, and it was just a whole mess,” he said during the WM Phoenix Open, his first event back. He had a seroma – a buildup of fluids where tissue has been removed – and a C. difficile infection.

“Everything that could go wrong seemed to go wrong,” he said. But he eventually, after a successful surgery on his ribs and chest wall, felt healthy enough to attempt a return.

“It's hard to put into words how much you kind of miss something when you grow up doing it every day and you play golf every day, and when it gets taken away, it does change your perspective on just how fortunate we are to be able to play golf and even to get to do the thing that you enjoy doing,” Cauley said at the WM Phoenix Open.

Bud Cauley on short-term goals in first start since 2020 at WM Phoenix Open

Cauley made two rehab starts on the Korn Ferry Tour last month in The Bahamas, finishing a respectable T21-T35, then made the cut in his PGA TOUR season debut at TPC Scottsdale, finishing 65th.

Bud Cauley finishes T21 in first tournament action since 2020 Safeway Open

This week at PGA National has been a different beast. Cauley opened with a 66 on Thursday and followed it with a bogey-free 6-under round on Friday. Albeit just the second round, Cauley started to feel the juices of contention coming down the back nine.

“I saw the leaderboard when I was coming down 18 and knew if I made birdie I'd have the lead,” Cauley said.

He sank an 11-foot putt to make that the reality. Cauley played the famed “Bear Trap” in 2-under. He made a 16-foot birdie on the par-4 16th and escaped the difficult par-3 17th with a par.

Bud Cauley's solid approach sets up birdie at Cognizant Classic

A top finish would go a long way in securing Cauley’s future on TOUR. He has 26 starts remaining on a Major Medical Extension after finishing No. 83 on the 2020 FedExCup, needing to earn 391.355 points to keep his card. He can also earn his card back by finishing inside the top 125 of the FedExCup. A win secures that and plenty more.

That’s Cauley’s focus for now. He’s in a better position than ever before. He held a share of the lead after two rounds of the 2017 Valero Texas Open but had never held the solo lead until this week. He’s never won on the PGA TOUR.

His peers believe he has what it takes.

“He’s just too good of a player to not have won out here at some point,” Cauley’s good friend Justin Thomas told PGATOUR.COM last month.

For a long time, it looked like that win would never come. Nothing is guaranteed this weekend. Cauley knows that. But nothing in his life has been guaranteed for a long time. He’s ready to go out and earn it.

“To be back here playing and playing well, it's nice,” Cauley said. “It just makes me that much more happy that I kept after it and didn't stop trying.”
