Indian Army Tata Safari Storme with 165 hp, 400 Nm torque! 1500 vehicles included

The Indian Army recently recruited the Tata Safari SUV into their fleet to replace the ageing Maruti Suzuki Gypsy ’. After months of rigorous testing, Tata Motors bagged a contract that was limited to 3192 Safari Storme GS800 SUVs. Deliveries of the specially manufactured Indian Army Tata Safari Storme began a couple of months ago. Tata Motors has now reached the halfway mark having built 1500 of these special Safaris for the Indian Army. The 1500th vehicle which is a milestone delivery for the company was ceremonially flagged off by Dr Subhash Bhamre, MoS, Defence, Government of India along with Mr Vernon Noronha, Vice President, Defence & Government Business, Tata Motors, at its Pune facility. Thus far, however, Tata has only delivered 1300 but we can assume that the next two hundred are ready to roll out to various defence agencies across the country.

On the surface, the GS 800, (GS indicates General Service while 800 indicates the minimum payload for the vehicle) looks almost like any Tata Safari on Indian Roads. Tata Motors said that the vehicle has been indigenously designed to meet the requirements of the Indian Army with a contemporary, highly reliable and sturdier Diesel SUV. According to new information from Tata Motors, the engine of Tata Safari Storme GS800 has been modified too and produces 70% more power and 200% more torque than the standard. It will have an 800 Kg payload capbility. Tata has even made modifications to the existing car to endure severely rugged operational conditions ranging from high-altitude drives, traversing snow-bound regions, crossing deserts to the marshy lands.

The criteria set by the Indian Army for the vehicle selection were - hard top, 800 kg payload capacity and air conditioning and the Tata Safari Storme with a cool matte green paintjob successfully met all the conditions set by one of the largest armies of the world.

The Indian Army version of the Tata Safari Storme comes with a few differences as compared to the standard road

going model. Apart from the matte paintjob, there are black out lamps mounted on the front and rear bumper that projects a horizontal light beam. All these changes add to the stealth value of the Safari Storme.

The chrome bits like the grille, exhaust tips, etc. have been blacked out to avoid reflection. There’s also a large hook at the rear to mount a trailer and a canister mount on the rear fenders. The military version of the Tata Safari Storme also gets a radio antenna on the bonnet.

Apart from the visual changes, Tata Motors has made some minor mechanical changes to the car, including better underbody protection and beefier suspension. The engine remains the same 2.2-litre diesel unit that makes 154 bhp of peak power and 400 Nm of peak torque. All the army versions will come standard with four wheel drive and with both a low range and a high range option along with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Expert Review on Tata Safari Storme

The Tata Safari Storme has maintained its status as one of the country's most sought-after automobiles for many years. Even the busiest city streets won't be too much for this strong and sturdy SUV; it can handle any terrain, and the ride is comfortable enough for long distances. But what is it about the Safari Storme that makes it so unique? In this article, we will discuss the characteristics of the Safari Storme that set it apart from the competition. There's a lot to like about this automobile, from the fact that it has a robust engine to the fact that its cabin is roomy. If you are thinking about purchasing an SUV, then you should look at the Tata Safari Storme as an option.

How is the Design?

When it comes to Indian sports utility vehicles (SUVs), the Tata Safari Storme represents something of a deviation from the norm. It is not boxy or awkward in any way, and instead has an overall pleasing appearance. The front end is especially beautifully done, with projector headlamps that come with LED daytime running lights and a chrome grille that contains the Tata emblem. Additionally, the daytime running lights can be turned on and off independently. The sides are not particularly complicated, but there are some attractive features, such as roof rails and alloy wheels that are 17 inches in diameter. A roof-mounted spoiler and LED tail lamps may be found in the rear of the vehicle. Overall, it's a really nicely constructed SUV that should be able to hold up well as it gets older.

The design of the Tata Safari Storme is based on that of the Land Rover Freelander. The vehicle was designed by a team of engineers from Tata Motors, JLR and Magna Steyr. The design process involved extensive use of computer-aided design and modelling. The aim was to create a vehicle that would be both practical and stylish. The front chrome polished dual-slat grille meets with the massive drawn-back headlight units, creating an appearance that is either enormous or more substantial when viewed from the side profile. A substantial band made of chrome is positioned right over the front grille, and it bears the word "STORME" embossed in black. The top of the vehicle, known as the bonnet, is level, giving the impression that the SUV is from an earlier era. The fog lights and small air intakes are all part of the same fog lamps assembly that is located on the lower side of the bumper. To tell you the truth, the front windscreen and the plain window frame on the flanks are significant deal breakers. The profile seen from the side is unimpressive; it seems overly cluttered and features a number of wrinkles. The wheel arches are widened, and a side stepper has been installed, both of which are done for the convenience of the passengers.

In addition to this, the placement of the tyres is not correct, and there is a significant space between the wheel arches and the wheels themselves. Tata was unable to improve the appearance of the vehicle's rear end, and it now has a dated appearance. It has a rounded spoiler at the top, a flat boot lid, a pair of unimpressive tail lights, reflectors, and dual chrome finished tail pipes. Despite the many redesigns, Tata was unable to do justice to the rear styling.

How does it perform?

Under the hood of the Safari Storme is a 2.2-liter, 16-valve DOHC VTT VARICOR diesel engine that is capable of 148 horsepower at 4000 revolutions per minute and 320 Nm of torque between 1,700 and 2,700 revolutions per minute. A manual gearbox with five speeds is used to handle the transmission responsibilities of the vehicle. The top-of-the-line model features a four-wheel drive electronic shift on fly mechanism in addition to a restricted slip differential. This option is available. A more potent version of the 2.2-liter diesel engine, branded the VARICOR 400, and producing 154 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque, is offered on the top-of-the-line trim level of the vehicle. The more powerful engine comes in both 2x2 and 4x4 configurations, and it is paired with a brand new manual gearbox that has six speeds.

How’s the Mileage?

The fuel efficiency of the two-wheel drive version is somewhat improved, coming in about 14 kilometers per litre. Although the gasoline engine has a power output that is 9 horsepower more, the diesel engine appears to be more nimble while moving. The Storme can accelerate from a standstill to 100 kilometers per hour in just 15 seconds, despite the fact that it is a hefty vehicle (approximate value).

How’s the Driving Experience?

The Safari Storme is an extremely enjoyable vehicle to pilot. It has a good amount of power and the comfort level is really high. The one and only drawback is that it's a little bit on the expensive side. Nevertheless, if you are searching for a fantastic time behind the wheel, the Safari Storme is an option that you should seriously consider.

How’s its Off-road Capability?

The Tata Safari Storme is an SUV that is made to be sturdy and rough, and it is designed to handle any kind of terrain. Off-road driving might present a variety of obstacles, but thanks to its robust engine, you'll be able to overcome any obstacle you come across. In addition to this, the suspension system was developed to be able to cope with bumpy and uneven terrain. You may feel confident that the Safari Storme will be able to see you safely through whatever journey that you choose to do with it.

What’s the Interior like?

Fortunately for the Storme, the interior is far more tastefully designed than the exterior. The cabin has taken on a more upscale appearance by adopting a darker colour scheme and adding touches of silver throughout. A dynamic four-spoke steering wheel similar to the one seen in the Tata Zest is one of the features that make the cabin stand out. Aside from that, the dashboard has a chic and contemporary design, but the quality of the materials used to construct it is not up to par. A music system, air conditioning vents, and temperature knobs are all included in the center console's silver finish. The floor console has convenient cubby holes built into it for storage purposes. The instrument cluster that sits behind the steering wheel is both spacious and easily readable. There is enough of space for passengers both in the front and in the back, including excellent leg room. There is space in the back of the vehicle for two additional people thanks to the placement of two jump seats. Because of the big glass surface, there a great view, particularly for the driver. When compared to the earlier model, the Storm's cabin now features some updated amenities. The VX top-of-the-line model has a dashboard, center console, and door panels that have a dual-tone finish that is predominantly beige and wooden. The LX and EX models have a dual-tone finish that is predominantly black and silver. Fabric in shades of beige (VX) and gray are used for the seats (LX, EX). Additionally, the steering wheel and gear knob each follow the same pattern of dual combination for their respective trims.

The analogue dials on the instrument cluster are larger than those found on earlier models, and the illumination is bright white. The cluster on the clock that is simple to read is covered in black rims. In addition, the instrument console features a cigarette lighter, AC switches, and a Drive Selector Knob (VX) that allows the user to choose between 4H, 4L, and 2L drive settings. It features air conditioning vents for the occupants in the second row as well as a charging port for mobile devices. When it comes to the amount of space available inside the cabin, the Storme provides a generous amount of both legroom and headroom for all passengers. With roof-mounted air conditioning vents, the dual-tone interior makes the cabin seem more open, larger, and clean than it actually is. The front seats of the SUV can be adjusted in three different ways.

Tech and Infotainment

In this day and age, it is difficult to conceive of existence without the assistance of various forms of technology. Our lives are continuously made simpler and more fun by the abundance of gizmos and gadgets that are constantly surrounding us. The Tata Safari Storme is no different, and it is equipped with a range of different technological and informational capabilities that will keep you engaged and connected even when you are on the road.

The Safari Storme provides you with an automatic temperature control system as well as an adjustable steering column to ensure that you remain comfortable even on the longest of journeys. In addition, there is a built-in four-speaker sound system that provides audio clarity for those individuals who enjoy taking their music with them wherever they go. Therefore, whether you are searching for a vehicle that can keep up with your hectic lifestyle or one that will help you relax while you are on a lengthy road trip, the Tata Safari Storme will not fail to please you. This automobile has everything you need to make every journey an experience to remember, from its sleek and contemporary style to its robust engine and cutting-edge technological features.

Safety Equipment

When it comes to protecting you and your loved ones, the Tata Safari Storme is a family car that comes standard with all of the most cutting-edge safety technology available today. These include child-proof rear door locks, dual front airbags, anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters, engine immobiliser, and more.

Which variant to buy?

There are four different versions of the Tata Safari Storme: the LX, the EX, the VX, and the VX 4x4. The LX model is the entry-level model, and it has a price of 10.19 lakh Indian Rupees (ex-showroom Delhi). Steel wheels measuring 16 inches in diameter are included, as are manually adjusted outside rear view mirrors (ORVMs), fabric upholstery, dual front airbags, and anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brake distribution (EBD).

The EX model has a starting price of Rs. 11.69 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and comes standard with features such as alloy wheels measuring 17 inches in diameter, outside rear view mirrors that can be electrically adjusted, leather upholstery, an eight-way adjustable driver's seat, and steering mounted controls.

The value offering is the VX. It comes equipped with amenities such as alloy wheels that are 18 inches in diameter, projector headlights, fog lamps, rain-sensing windshield wipers, automatic headlamps, cruise control, and a Harman audio system with touchscreen interface and subwoofer, rear camera with park assist sensors, eight-way power adjustable driver's seat with memory function..

The most expensive model is the VX 4x4, which has the capacity to operate all four wheels simultaneously and is the pick of the lot if you are an off-roading enthusiast.

Which Cars Compete in this Segment?

The Safari Storme has competition from a variety of different vehicles that are similarly positioned within the Indian automobile industry. It is a rival to the Mahindra Scorpio and also the Hyundai Creta in terms of prices. Some would also put the Renault Duster here. However, to be honest, the Mahindra XUV500 and Scorpio are both rivals at various levels of the brand. The Mahindra Scorpio is clearly a more popular option, with its rugged and muscular design, great features, and reliability. However, it does not have as powerful an engine and may be costlier.

One of the other vehicles that compete with the Safari Storme is the Renault Duster. It is an SUV that is more affordable than the Safari Storme and comes with a 5-seater configuration. The Hyundai Creta is a larger 5-seater proposition in this regard. Both these SUVs are no match for the brawn of the 7-seater Tata Safari and lack off-roading abilities. However, they are better equipped with contemporary features in some respects. Their engines are also not as powerful as the Safari.

Verdict (Value for Money?)

The Tata Safari, one of the first locally produced and most popular SUVs in India, has been on the market for several years now. In that time, it has seen a number of improvements and updates, notably to its engine and power output. The Tata Safari Storme is based on the X2 Platform of its sibling ARIA and features a more robust Hydro formed Chassis sections, a new 2.2-liter,16-valve DOHC Common Rail Direct injection diesel Engine named VARICOR with Variable Turbine Technology, and a new G76 Mark II Gearbox. Although the Storme is already the most reasonably priced SUV on the market at this size and with this heft, it may benefit from a few upgrades in terms of interior plastic quality, features that are available from other brands, and general refinement. It looks and feels dated, although it offers a powerful engine and suitable ruggedness with that take-me-anywhere feel.

Tata Safari Storme Price List (Variant Wise)

Tata Safari Storme Ex-Showroom price ranges from ₹ 11.08 to 16.17 Lakh. Tata offers Safari Storme in 4 variants. The top variant of Safari Storme is VX Refreshed 4x4 (400 NM) and the base variant is Lx Refreshed.

The Storme is replacing the Maruti Gypsy as a personnel carrier for the Indian army, and this is happening at quite a rapid pace considering the fact that Tata has already supplied 1,500 units of the bigger SUV to the Army, in just months of induction. Yes, Tata Motors has just rolled out the 1,500th Safari Storme Army ‘GS800’ edition, meant to be a personnel carrier in the Indian army.

Tata Safari Storme Army ‘GS800’ Edition replacing the Maruti Gypsy RAPIDLY

The Safari Storme Army Edition has a payload of 800 kilograms, which is much higher than that of the civilian version. The SUV features many other changes specifically meant for the Indian army. It gets a much more comfortable cabin, standard air conditioning and a power steering, a more powerful turbocharged diesel engine and a shift-on-the-fly four-wheel drive system.

Mr. Vernon Noronha, Vice President, Defence & Government Business, Tata Motors Limited said,

“We, at Tata Motors, take immense pride to roll-out the 1500th GS800 Safari Storme of the 3192 order for the Indian  Army. This modern SUV – Tata GS800 is specially customized to meet the requirements of the Indian Armed Forces. The continued faith bestowed by the country’s security forces in Tata Motors is a reflection of our pedigree & aspiration to serve the nations challenging requirements on the front lines. The milestone of rolling out the 1500th Safari Storme is the result of the absolute dedication of our workforce, while reiterating our commitment to support  Government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.”

The Safari Storme GS800 Army Edition is powered by the 2.2-litre Varicor turbocharged diesel engine in the 154 Bhp- 400 Nm state of tune. A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard. This gearbox drives the rear wheels of the SUV while the 4-wheel drive transfer case drives all four wheels of the Safari Storme, both in low and high ranges. Standard features on the Army-spec Safari Storme include ABS, recovery hooks, jerry can mounts and specifically designed fog lamps. To make life easier for army personnel, the SUV also gets bucket seats, a mobile charging point and power windows. It’s built at Tata Motors’ Pimpri factory, near Pune.

Tata Safari Storme 2019 Verdict

The Safari has always been known for its presence and mighty demeanour and continues to do the same despite its design being decades old now. It is a spacious vehicle that will take a whole family of five with all their luggage without having to worry about broken roads or bad patches. But it feels too old now especially when compared to its modern competition.

A brief history of Tata Motors

Airways. Railways. Roadways. Tata Always.

India’s route to transport efficiency is marked by many firsts from Tata Motors

March 2023     |     2220 words     |     8-minute read

In 1932, Sir Dorabji Tata gave the nod to finance and launch India’s first-ever airline — Tata Airlines — which later became the national carrier Air India Ltd.  In 1938, the Tata group acquired the Singhbhum Shops of the East Indian Railway Workshop to manufacture steam locomotives and later diesel locomotives under the name of Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company Ltd (TELCO, renamed Tata Motors in 2003), thus making a significant contribution to India’s transportation services and its journey to becoming self-reliant.

This journey, however, took a different turn in 1954 when TELCO entered into an agreement with Daimler Benz to roll out what would be termed as India’s first ever ‘truck made for the Indian soil’ — the Tata Mercedes Benz truck. This historic partnership between the two iconic brands sowed the seeds of automotive manufacturing in India. In 1961, just a few years after the launch, both the country and the company celebrated two milestones: the launch of its first luxury bus and the first-ever export of made-in-India trucks to Sri Lanka (then Ceylon).

tata safari storme gs 800

By 1968, over 175,000 Tata-Daimler Benz vehicles, approximately 50% of trucks and buses, plying on Indian roads were from Tata Motors’ stable, marking its journey towards becoming the largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles (CV) in India. [view a timeline of Tata Motors]

R&D to Innovation

In line with India’s aspiration to be self-reliant in industries, Tata Motors laid the foundation for developing automotive excellence by launching its first R&D centre in Jamshedpur in 1966. In the late 1970s, two new vehicles: the 15-tonne heavy vehicle Tata S 1210 series — with an improved front design, embedded rectangular headlights and a wider hood — and the light truck 407 LCV were indigenously designed and rolled out, revolutionising the transportation of goods across the country.  Since then, a solution-oriented approach to holistically address the evolving needs of customers ahead of the curve made Tata Motors introduce first-to-market concepts that have led to a transformational shift in mobility. The Tata Ace is one such example of creating a new category altogether for last-mile deliveries that is now being extensively used by the e-commerce industry. Similarly, the timely introduction of large tippers, and CNG-powered trucks in the light, medium and now heavy segments of commercial vehicles have ensured Tata Motors' continuing leadership in CVs.

“In recent years Tata Motors has made a significant impact on the automotive industry by virtue of power of innovation and a delivery mindset." - Rajendra Petkar

Innovations introduced by Tata Motors have consistently set industry benchmarks in every segment of cargo and passenger transport. These efforts have resulted in creating new age vehicles that offer stunning designs, pleasant driving experiences, seamless connectivity and serve a wide variety of applications. Tata Motors has further sought to elevate customer experiences through Industry 4.0 practices and sophisticated platforms.

According to Rajendra Petkar, President and Chief Technology Officer, Tata Motors, “In recent years Tata Motors has made a significant impact on the automotive industry through innovation and a delivery mindset. Its accomplishments include complete product transformation while offering superior product attributes and value enhancers during the BS4 to BS6 transition in a three-year record, democratisation of occupants’ safety with the launch of the country’s first 5 star Global New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP), a rating to test safety capabilities of new cars, rated cars across segments, and indigenously developed connected vehicle features across vehicle segments. We are also leading the cause of sustainability by launching vehicles with alternative and new energy models like CNG, LNG, ethanol, electric vehicles (EVs) and the country’s first zero-emission–fuel-cell bus powered by hydrogen. Besides, the InnoVista and Imagineering competitions inspire our workforce to showcase their agility, skills and innovative mindset towards solving problems and enhancing efficiencies to delight customers.”

Being indigenous

1988 was a watershed year for Tata Motors. Earlier that year, Ratan Tata, the then Chairman of Tata Sons, and currently Chairman Emeritus, Tata Sons, had been appointed Executive Deputy Chairman of TELCO; under his aegis, India’s first indigenous pickup, Tatamobile 206, was launched, marking the company’s entry into the light commercial vehicle segment.

When the country opened its doors to foreign investment in 1991, it ushered in a new era for both India and Tata Motors. The company launched a range of vehicles, beginning with Tata Sierra, India’s first home-grown sports utility vehicle (SUV), designed and manufactured locally; followed by the Tata Estate in 1992; and in 1994 Tata Sumo, the first multi-utility vehicle named after Tata Motors’ then Managing Director (MD), Sumant Moolgaokar.

Making India’s car

The company’s dream of launching a full-fledged indigenous passenger vehicle (PV), however, was yet to be fulfilled. The post-liberalisation boom provided the needed impetus and in December 1998, Tata Motors launched the Indica, ‘India’s Car’, capturing the nation’s imagination.  Indica catapulted India into an elite group of just 10 nations that have manufactured their own cars.

“First unveiled in 1998, Tata Indica was a game changer for the Indian automobile industry because it not only was India’s first indigenously developed car but it also represented something larger — a significant step forward in India’s journey towards building home-grown competencies for building vehicles of the future. Indica’s innovativeness, design and localisation outlined Tata Motors’ broad vision as it forayed into the passenger vehicle segment. Conceived to meet the needs of the Indian customer, Indica quickly grabbed the numero uno spot in the market and set the stage for Tata Motors to seriously develop its passenger vehicle portfolio,” says Mr. Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles  and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, both subsidiaries of Tata Motors.

“Tata Indica was a game changer for the Indian automobile industry because it not only was India’s first indigenously developed car but it also represented something larger — a significant step forward in India’s journey towards building home-grown competencies.”—Sailesh Chandra

It wasn’t long before the Indica firmly established itself as the people’s favourite and in 2001, it became the fastest-selling automobile in Indian history when it notched up sales of 100,000 in less than 18 months. The Indica was followed in quick succession by the launch of the Indica V2 in 2001 and Tata Indigo (‘India on the Go’) in 2002.

The Tata Safari, the first made-in-India four-wheel drive, was also launched that year. The Safari Storme GS 800, a version exclusively developed for the Indian Army, proudly continues to serve the nation’s challenging requirements at the frontlines.

In the ensuing years, Tata Motors enhanced its portfolio of offerings across the CV and PV spectrum, coming out with competitive and immensely popular models such as Tata Ace; Tata Indigo, India’s first indigenously produced sedan; and Tata Nano, the world’s most affordable car. Undoubtedly, Nano was the star of the Tata stable in 2008, at a price tag of around Rs 1 lakh. The frugal engineering ingenuity behind the Nano was widely acclaimed; it also expanded the Indian car market, leading to the advent of affordable cars.

The acquisition of Jaguar Land Rover helped further diversify offerings while putting Tata Motors on the global map.

New Forever

In 2017, the company launched the Nexon, Tigor and Hexa — each representing revolutionary designs and performance that pushed the boundaries of automotive engineering. In January 2020, Tata Motors took a big leap in its engineering practice and completed its BS6 transition with the launch of its New Forever range of cars and SUVs. The new generation of Tata Motors’ PVs came with BS6-compliant engines, and superior design under the Impact 2.0 design language. Redesigned to suit its times, this range promises better performance, refreshed and robust exteriors, enhanced safety and utmost driving comfort to its customers. Nexon is India’s first car to receive a 5-star Global NCAP rating and later the premium hatchback Altroz  followed this feat. The Nexon EV, t he most popular EV in the country, has become the standard of a smartly priced, zero-emission and technologically elevated connected vehicle.

The 2020 New Forever range of PVs and the latest portfolio of CVs set the benchmark for redefining transportation, with EVs making a prominent appearance.

Tata Motors has been making a concerted effort to digitise every step of its value chain to be future-ready.

Leading the EV wave in India

EVs are imperative for the world, and more for India, to combat the ill-effects of climate change.

The Government of India has played a pivotal role in promoting the faster adoption of EVs by creating a favourable policy environment. The inherent advantages, such as superior performance, a quiet and peaceful driving experience, hassle-free refuelling, ie charging at home, as well as significantly better operating costs, ensure EVs are at the top of buyers’ lists.

Tata Motors is leading the EV mobility in India , nurturing its growth with 88% market share from the Nexon EV and Tigor EV. The face of urban mass mobility is also fast changing with more than 715 electric buses from Tata Motors already running successfully on Indian roads in various cities, with orders for supplying several thousand more over the next few years. The recent electrification of the legendary Tata Ace is another step forward to redefine last-mile transportation with eco-friendly solutions, a key requirement of the rapidly growing e-commerce and logistics sectors.

Leveraging group synergies, Tata Motors has also established Tata UniEVerse, a one-of-its-kind EV ecosystem, which is further propelling EV adoption.

In 2022, the company unveiled its three-phased approach towards building a comprehensive EV portfolio for personal mobility. Tata Motors will now expand its EV portfolio further with a new mainstream intervention, the Tiago EV. As the leader, it is now pioneering the next phase of EV market expansion to bring all the EV benefits, such as exciting yet easy drive, silent cabin and low cost of ownership to a more accessible level.

Redefining future transportation

The company is redefining the future of Indian transportation by investing in R&D for safe, sustainable, smart and connected mobility solutions that are best-in-class in terms of comfort and convenience, better connectivity and lowest total cost of ownership across its product line-up, which now includes developing EVs and their components such as battery and e-axle, as well as thermal management technologies. It is working towards advanced vehicle safety by utilising digital technology, design and ergonomics. The latest product features related to vehicle and occupant safety are being incorporated with upcoming safety regulations in consideration.

With its nationalistic ‘desh ke trucks’ focus, Tata Motors is consistently enhancing the overall value proposition of its offerings with improvements in existing technologies and by introducing future ready powertrains. Besides improving the efficiency, emission profile and contemporariness of internal combustion engines, it is developing technologies for use of alternative fuels such as ethanol, methanol, CNG, LNG, and hydrogen; the company is also adopting advanced substrates for precious metal reduction in exhaust after-treatment systems to help enhance fuel efficiency and reduce its carbon footprint.

Tata Motors has been developing battery, electric and hydrogen fuel-cell technologies for application in CVs, pioneering India’s transition to an electric future. It offers the widest portfolio of CNG-powered trucks and buses, and has recently launched the country’s first CNG-based medium and heavy truck. To make Indian roads safer, Tata Motors has introduced another first, a new age advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) in its flagship truck brand Prima.

“Our trucks connect India and power the engine of the nation’s economy. As the industry leader, we are creating new paradigms of functionality, productivity, connectivity, safety, and performance by continually introducing future-ready products, services, and solutions." - Girish Wagh

Says Girish Wagh, Executive Director, Tata Motors: “Our trucks connect India and power the engine of the nation’s economy. As the industry leader, we are creating new paradigms of functionality, productivity, connectivity, safety, and performance by continually introducing future-ready products, services, and solutions. They address the growing need for safer transportation and cleaner mobility solutions, while embracing alternative energy sources. Our smart trucks are designed to deliver best-in-class operating economics and superior comfort with enhanced connectivity. The engines of infrastructure development, consumer consumption and e-commerce powering the Indian economy require continued transportation support to run seamlessly, and we at Tata Motors will continue to deliver superior value proposition to customers by introducing smarter, future-ready products and services.”

Tata Motors strives to elevate each of its products by keeping a close check on the pulse of Indian customers. With the recent drive towards digital connectivity, and sustainable and clean mobility solutions, each of its cars is engineered to lead the e-mobility trend.

From its humble beginnings, Tata Motors has scaled unimagined heights. Today, 10 million Tata branded vehicles ply on roads across 125+ countries. Its inspiring journey has had its fair share of ups and downs, has in many ways mirrored India’s own journey towards becoming more self-reliant. Ultimately, the company’s phenomenal success has been a result of its dedication towards fostering innovation within the country, driven by the vision of creating world-class products that are, at their core, made in India.
