Grand Canyon Whitewater Rafting Near Las Vegas

The closest and best white water rafting near Las Vegas is on the Colorado River through Grand Canyon. In this post we discuss the basic information for the three best options including where trips meet and how to travel between the meeting place and Las Vegas. These rafting tours are the one-day , two-day and Western Grand Canyon rafting trips.

One and two-day rafting trips meet two and a half hours from Las Vegas in Peach Springs, Arizona. While the 3 and 4-day trips in Western Grand Canyon require a small plane flight from Las Vegas and then a helicopter ride to get to the river.

In addition there is a Grand Canyon Fly n’Float trip that begins and ends in Las Vegas with a small plane flight to the edge of Grand Canyon followed by helicopter ride into the canyon and then a pontoon boat smooth water tour on the Colorado River.

3-Day Rafting Option

The Western Grand Canyon 3-day motorized rafting trip is another great rafting option from Las Vegas. This trip requires a small plane flight to the Bar 10 Ranch on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Depending upon the trip a night can be spent at the ranch before starting the three days of rafting 92 miles on the Colorado River. A minute helicopter ride takes everyone to the both of the canyon to begin the river tour. At the end of the trip a bus takes everyone back to Las Vegas. One and Two Day Grand Canyon Rafting Trips

The one and two-day trips both run the same section of river and have the same take-out options. The big differences between the trips is that the two-day trip spends a night camping by the river. The 2-day trip runs the rapids in paddle rafts with 6 paddlers and a guide and then uses motor rafts below the rapids. While the one-day trip runs the rapids in 6 to 8 person motor rafts.

Two-day Check-in

Check in for the 2-day trip is at 6:30 the morning of your trip. While checking in you will be given a drybag for packing your camping gear. Trips typically return to Peach Springs at the end of the two-day expedition between 6:30 and 7:30 pm putting you back in Las Vegas between 8 and 9 pm.

One-day Check-in

The 1-day trip meets at the Hualapai Lodge in Peach Springs, Arizona at 7:30 am. Expect to arrive back to Peach Springs between 6:30 and 7:30 pm that evening.

Helicopter Ride and Grand Canyon West Skywalk (Helicopter Not operating in 2023)

After 35 miles of river there is an optional helicopter take-out at Quartermaster Canyon for both trips. Once out of the canyon there is an option to visit the Grand Canyon West Skywalk. Both the helicopter and Skywalk options require an additional cost that can be seen on our one-day reservation or two-day reservation page. In order to see the Skywalk on the day of your trip you have to take the helicopter out of the canyon.

Those that prefer to raft out of the Grand Canyon have 2 more hours of rafting along flatwater to the take out. Both take-out options get you back to Peach Springs between 5:30 and 7:30 pm.

One Day Rafting Helicopter

Traveling from Las Vegas, Nevada to Peach Springs, Arizona

From Las Vegas the two main ways to travel to Peach Springs are by car or shuttle. Many people prefer the flexibility (and expense) of renting a car for the road trip to Peach Springs. Less than an hour into the drive, Hoover Dam on Lake Mead makes a worthy stop being just off the highway. While you can leave Las Vegas at 5 am to arrive in Peach Springs at 7:30 for your trip and then return to Vegas that night at 8 or 9pm, we recommend staying a night in Peach Springs to shorten the day.

Map of Drive from Las Vegas to Peach Springs

Shuttle from Las Vegas

Our Las Vegas shuttle service partner will pick you up at your hotel at 4:30 AM and return you home that evening after the trip. Those of you coming in from the East Coast it means leaving your hotel at 6:30 AM east coast time. The best part about the shuttle is that you get to save 4 hours of driving by being picked up on your way out of the canyon. The shuttle typically gets back to Las Vegas in time for dinner.

If you request the shuttle service we will give Randy, the shuttle service owner, your trip information and he will contact you for payment and to finalize travel arrangements. Current rates are $75 one way and $150 round trip between Las Vegas and Peach Springs for one day trips. The rate is $95 one-way and $190 round trip for two-day trips (this is more expensive because it requires two separate trips for the shuttle company).

Staying in Peach Springs

The Hualapai Lodge is the one place to stay in Peach Springs and conveniently is the meeting location for one and two-day rafting trips. We offer a discounted rate for rafters. You can find current rates by selecting a date in our Grand Canyon rafting reservation system .

While the Grand Canyon Caverns is closer to Peach Springs than the options below, we’ve heard about too many bad experiences with their lodging to be able to continue recommending it.

Concluding Thoughts – Las Vegas Rafting

All the of these trips give an intimate experience with the Grand Canyon. The opportunity to sleep next to the Colorado River is a unique and memorable experience worth spending additional time away from Las Vegas on your river trip. The Ultimate Grand Canyon 6 or 7-Day Vacation

This may be one of the most famous, physically demanding, but rewarding rafting trips available worldwide. Most of our visitors claim that the experience of spending a week outdoors is indeed life-changing. However, we do recommend you be physically fit and prepared to partake in this tour so that you can make the most of the trip.

The beauty of this vacation is that you have so much time to explore the Grand Canyon 188 miles. You can go on canyon hikes, swim in pristine pools and sparkling streams, and explore ancient Anasazi ruins. The motor rafts are just what you need to experience the thrill of more than 60 whitewater rapids with maximum excitement and comfort.

These trips are usually conducted in April through September.

What to Pack for your Grand Canyon Colorado River Trip

With the fluctuating weather conditions in the Grand Canyon, it's always better to be ready for anything. Proper planning and the right equipments will help ensure you enjoy the entire trip. Based on the many Grand Canyon tours conducted, we have compiled a list of the equipment and clothing you need to remain happy throughout the trip duration.

All you have to do is pack these things in a duffel bag, and we will take care of the rest. Pack your personal belongings like a comfortable t-shirt, flip flops, and shorts. Your gear and any beverages should preferably weigh up to 20 pounds to fit comfortably in the raft space.

Upon reaching your trip launch point, you will also be provided with your sleeping bag, sheet, ground tarp, and other essential camping gear in a waterproof bag. We recommend safely putting your duffle bag in this bag to prevent your equipment from getting wet.

You will also be provided you with a water-resistant day bag upon reaching the Canyon river edge to carry everything you will need during the day. This includes things like your medication, sun block, lip balm, river guidebook, camera, raingear, and perhaps tennis shoes.

You could pack these things in a simple plastic bag inside your duffel quickly transfer them to the day bag at the launch site. You may also consider packing a two-piece rain suit in the day bag as weather conditions are so unpredictable here.

  • LadyKrysta 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Fraudlent advertising - NO helicopter ride included - Bait and Switch I booked this tour several months in advance. The advertised tour was for transportation from Las Vegas to The Colorado river, white water rafting adventure on the Colorado River, and a short helicopter ride out of the canyon. The cost was $649. I booked and paid in full. When I arrived, I was told there is no helicopter available that day. the liability paperwork I filled out stated $99 would be refunded if the helicopter ride out was not available that day. After the tour, I contacted Lets Go Grand Canyon Tours about the refund, I was called names and hung up on. Safe yourself the time and aggravation of being charged for services not delivered. The company they drop you off at for the white water rafting is HUALAPAI RIVER RUNNERS. Book the river rafting adventure directly with them for $399. The transport driver was great! The HUALAPAI RIVER RUNNERS guides were absolutely fantastic! Lets GO Grand Canyon Tours company is a fraud! All this happened in September 2022. The owner of Lets GO Grand Canyon Tours said the helicopter rides still be listed on the website was a mistake, they stopped offering it 1+ years ago. It has been 3 months and the helicopter ride out is STILL listed on his website as part of this package. Read more Written December 12, 2022
  • drj2 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Great way to see the canyon Great way to see the canyon and very happy we did this rather than simply look over the edge. Reason for not giving 5 stars… paying over £500 each and then having to pay for breakfast at a Denny’s as well as our boat seemed to sink in the water so we were absolutely soaking even on the flat water and sometimes the spray was so bad you had to keep your eyes closed. The other boats didn’t have this problem so not sure if it was a weight issue is our boat! Read more Written July 1, 2022
  • Laura A 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Don't let the long drive and full day description deter you. IT WAS WORTH IT! I booked this tour on line after looking for something different and exciting while in Vegas. The white water rafting tour did NOT disappoint! If more information was given on the website they would sell out everyday. We were picked up from the Flamingo at exactly 4:15am by Ron in a passenger van loaded with pillows and bench seats. ALL of us slept for most of the ride. The website mentions a 3 hour drive to Arizona but this is broken up in sections. Like I mentioned, all of us went to sleep as the sun was rising. We stopped for an hour long breakfast at a Denny's on Route 66! Ron was a fantastic host as he explained points of interest along the way. He would stop for photo opportunities as well. The next stop was at the reservation where we checked in and hopped on a bus for the half hour ride to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. We got into our boats at 9am. The rapids ranged from Class 4 to Class 8. The water was 40 degrees and I must say "very refreshing". Those who sit in the front of the boat will be doused as sheet after sheet of icy water slams into you as you go through the rapids. This is not a ride for anyone with physical limitations. Going on this tour while severely hung over is NOT a wise decision. We went in early May. It was over 90 degrees in the canyon. The icy water was refreshing but we quickly warmed up. Surprise!!!! There is a hidden waterfall!!! REALLY? I must have missed this on the website. We climbed ashore and were absolutely delighted to find ropes drilled into the cliffs to help us climb up to the waterfall. I had no idea what I would find at the end of the journey but it took my breath away. ABSOLUTELY WORTH THE CLIMB! Did I mention this tour is not for those with limited mobility or those who are hung over? Yeah. It was a workout but we entered a cave at the top and heard the running water and just stopped in our tracks to take in the magnificence. TAKE YOUR CAMERAS but enclose them in a waterproof bag. After the breath taking waterfall we rafted further down the river and stopped for a rugged lunch. Sandwiches, chips, veggies and Kool-aid. Be sure to take ALL of your trash. The sheer magnificence of the Grand Canyon is a wonder to behold. The rapids ended before lunch. The next 3 hours of the journey is through the heart of the Grand Canyon. There are no words to describe the grandeur as you cruise the Colorado river looking up at the 4500 foot cliffs over your head. We saw the river transition from beautiful turquoise blue to muddy brown as the terrain changed towards the last hour of the journey. The boat drivers were very professional, courteous and experienced. You can choose to cut off the last hour of the boat trip by taking a helicopter out of the canyon. WHY would you do this you may ask? Well if you've never been on a helicopter it is amazing. You've just spent 5 hours on the river taking in the Grand Canyon from the bottom. The helicopter will show you the views from the top. You an add an option to go to the skywalk. We chose to stay on the river and I just have to say it is an exhausting day. It was very hard to stay awake for the last few hours on the river. The calm boat ride, the hum of the boat engine and the physical energy it took to climb to the waterfall took its toll. Despite the magnificent scenery, my eyes were closing of their own accord. Ron was waiting at the end with that same comfy van and pillows to take us back to the hotel. And again....ALL of us fell asleep. DO NOT MISS THIS TOUR. 10 of us went to Vegas. Only 3 went on this tour. They weren't excited about spending an entire day away from the pool. IT WAS WORTH IT. IT WAS WORTH IT. Read more Written June 1, 2021

It was myself my husband and my 78 year old mother (she's done this before and insist we do this before she's not able) She did great, and enjoyed it very much. The guys were great everyone of them was so helpful and friendly. We did the 2 day 1 night and it was simply breathtaking! The Grand Canyon is so beautiful and majestic. Lenard, Walker, Jordan and Taylor were so nice and took such good care of everyone on the trip. These guys cooked us dinner & breakfast. It was all very good. I think everyone should experience the Grand Canyon in this way. The rapids were awesome! I can't wait to do it again! Read more Written September 10, 2020

  • Tammy D 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles A day to be treasured for a long time Wow, what a day we had. Our driver Ron couldn't possibly be any better. He was kind, funny, went way out of his way to help us, and gave great advice. Perfect. The boat trip was incredible. Our river guide was Tyler, and he was perfect too. SOO funny, and took great pleasure in telling us stories of the river and stirring us up. He had a wonderful laugh and was so friendly to everyone on the river that it made my day to see such warmth towards so many. The rapids! OMG what fun! It was a little scary, but more exhilarating than anything else. You should definitely have water shoes, and a very light raincoat to give you some protection as you'll definitley get drenched. And it's frelling cold. After the water adventure it was topped off by my first ever helicopter ride. Not friendly, just a ride, but the view was of course wonderful. The trip back to our hotel with Ron again was a joy. We came back to our room high on the day. Can't recommend it enough. Read more Written October 3, 2019
  • Sailthebrz 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Amazing Way To See The Canyon Ron (Driver) was prompt and friendly. Our Hualapai Indian guides were knowledgable about the river and the canyon. The vantage point from the river is a breath taking way to see the canyon. YOU DO NOT PADDLE -This trip is on a raft with an engine. I reached out to the tour company for more detailed information about the trip so I could pack from home (traveling to Vegas) with anything I might need. Some of the information could easily be made available on the website. They were courteous in answering all of my questions. Go Pro's were available for rent from driver. (Option should be included on website). Helicopter ride out was and option. Everyone on my trip had taken this option but me. I felt a little pressure to do this on the day of trip. If I hadn't, everyone else would have had to wait/drive an extra hour to come get me down river. I was told it adds another 19 miles to the river trip. They should make those options more clear at sign up/registration. It was great day, fun and educational. Read more Written June 28, 2019
  • Kathy B 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles #1 Best Tour Ever! I can’t say enough great things about this trip. Our driver, Ron, was prompt and so friendly and mailed us back a shirt we left behind. He provided ziplock bags for anyone wanting to take stuff with them. The raft trip was fantastic and after we were done with the rapids, Patricia told us about local history and showed us points of interest. On another tour we were unimpressed with the lunch (a basic sandwich), but on this tour it was a delicious feast! Fresh everything along with plenty of snacks and plenty of stuff for vegetarians. It started to rain and the temperature dropped and they pulled out sleeping bags to keep us dry and warm. There were 9 of us, and EVERYONE said it was the highlight of the vacation. You will get wet, but make yourself more comfortable by bringing a lightweight (unlined) waterproof rain jacket and put it on under your life jacket. We also brought slip on “pool shoes” for $5 at Walmart which worked great on the raft and the waterfall hike. You can leave your cell phone on the bus, but consider a waterproof or disposable camera. These people deserve a great tip, so bring an appropriate amount of cash. You stop for breakfast on the way, so have cash or a credit card for that too. You will not be disappointed. Look no further!!! Read more Written June 15, 2019

I highly recommend this for company for the transportation to and from West Rim - avoid big bus...ride in comfort & relax knowing they’ve got it. White water rafting & helicopter was amazing - do both! Ron was a great driver - he ensured we had quiet when we wanted to nap and offered some history & stories when we wanted to chat. He was prompt, a safe driver, and friendly. Read more Written June 10, 2019
  • Catherine M 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Lets Go Tours/Grand Canyon Tour Company All-Day White Water Rafting It was a Once-in-a-Lifetime Trip! Ron, our driver, provided excellent conversation and knew the best places to stop for breakfast. He narrated the history of the area. We were picked up at our Hotel at 0430; and the van even had pillows to help us sleep. There was a cooler full of water bottles. The ride to the Hualapai Indian Lodge went smoothly, then we took an old school bus for a bumpy one-hour ride down the canyon to the Colorado River. There we met our boat guide, Joseph, one of the members of the tribe. He was very competent, patient, and knowledgable of the history of the river. At no time did we feel unsafe, the the rapids were levels 3-7 along the way! The water temp was only 45 degrees F, and the outdoor temperature was 112 degrees F. The first dousing was definitely breathtaking! Several miles into the river run, Joseph stopped us alongside the other rafts so we could hike up into a beautiful waterfall. At the end of the river run, we met a helicopter for a thrilling ride about 5000 feet vertical to lift us out of the canyon. Ron met us at the small airport where the helicopters unloaded, and we were on our way back to Las Vegas. We arrived about 1830; just as advertised although we had stopped along the way to take pictures on the bridge overlooking the Hoover Dam. This trip was worth every penny we spent! If you go, ask for Ron and remember, most waterproof bags don't survive the submersion(s) you will experience from the level 7 rapids. Take a tip for the boat driver and the tour guide - they earn it!!!! Read more Written July 1, 2015
