How to Setup Your Day Trading Desk and Room
- Real Tradingâą Staff

Trading Up Blog >Â
There are many factors that contribute to a successful day trader . While having an excellent knowledge on technical and fundamental analysis is a good thing, it is not the only factor.
Some of the most important items that lead to a successful day trading career include psychological well-being , having enough time to trade, your team, and the overall space where you work in.
The latter is an important point, which is why many large trading houses spend a fortune in their office spaces.
A trading office or floor is a special room where a person or a team executes trades. In most periods, full-time day traders use their home offices or their spare room.
In this report, we will look at how you can create an excellent trading workspace and what you need to set up your day trading desk and room .
Table of Contents
The trading space: desk & office.
Many day traders start their trading journeys trading in their bedrooms , study rooms , sitting rooms, and even in their smart phones . This is possible for single day traders considering that a lot of investments are not needed to start your trading journey.
However, as you become an advanced trader , you will realize the importance of having an excellent work space .
This is whether you are just a single day trader or part of a trading team.
To save cost, we recommend that you use the available resources that you have. Unless itâs really necessary, you can go out there and hire an office space . But if you have a spare room at home, it can be a space to trade in.
Set up your trading desk and your room
There are several things you need to do when creating a good trading room at home as a professional:
- Find good furniture â You should invest in excellent furniture, including an office desk and chair . Doing this will make your trading floor extra comfortable.
- Boost your lighting â If you live in a congested environment, invest in good lighting for your room. If you have access to natural light the better.
- Set rules â Your trading floor is your office. As such, set rules about who can access it at a given time. You simply donât want your family and friends coming in at any time.
- Invest in an excellent chair â You will be sitting here for a long time. So, buy a quality one!
High Speed Internet
Internet is one of the most important aspects in your day trading office. Because of how fast the financial market is, you need access to the fastest internet. You also want one that is from a stable and well-known internet provider. You don’t want your desktop trading (or mobile) to come to a grinding halt at the hottest moment, right?
A high-speed and stable internet will help you load data and news faster . It will also help you to ensure that your trades are executed right away.
While this may not be a problem with our Cube-X (it works very well even with bad connections), in the news search phase the loading speed makes a huge difference. Don’t think of it as an expense, but as an investment in your business.
You can approach this in several ways
First, since the cost of internet has gone down in recent years, you can get two internet providers . For example, in the United States, 1GB of internet from companies like Comcast and AT&T costs less than $100 per month.
Therefore, if you have a large trading account, you can decide to spend about $200 on internet per month. You can even spend less by combining an extra fast speed and a slower one as a backup .
Most importantly, while you can use Wi-Fi in your trading, experts recommend using a high-speed ethernet cable . This is usually faster and more reliable.
Cons of poor internet connection
Having a reliable internet is an important thing for you as a trader. Some of the consequences of having slow internet are:
- Slippage – Slippage is a situation where a trade is implemented at a different price than where you opened it. For example, you might place a buy trade at $20.12 but the broker executes it at $20.14.
- Missed opportunities – The other impact of a slow or unreliable internet connection is the many missed opportunities in trading.
- Mental issues – At times, having a slow or unreliable interne can lead to mentall health issues because of the the frustrations .
- Diminished productivity – When you have slow internet, there is a possibility of having reduced productivity.
Trading Computers
As a professional day trader, you require excellent day trading computers in your floor. Basically, you want computers that are reliable and those that have high specifications . For example, if you are a small trader, you should have a laptop with a minimum of i5 processor and a large SSD storage.
If you are an advanced trader managing a significant amount of money, you should have the latest computers. Doing this will not disappoint you.
In addition to a computer, you should have a Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS). This is a simple device that saves some energy for you in case of a power outage.
One of the worst things that can happen to you when day trading is an emergency power outage . When it happens, it can lead to substantial losses, especially when you have not connected your account to a mobile application and when you have not protected your trades with a stop-loss.
Stories have been written of traders who lost a fortune simply because there was a power outage in their location. If possible, we recommend that you have another source of power such as a generator that you can use when there is a power outage.
Multiple monitors
Further, you should invest in multiple monitors . You should have a minimum of two quality computer monitors in your trading. Experts believe that the overall sweet spot is about 4 of them .
The main monitor will be your default work space. This is where you do most of your work. In another monitor, you should dedicate it to your news terminals like Reuters Eikon, TradingView, and Investing.com.

The other monitor should be where you maintain your trades while the other one should be where you also access your news.
In my many years of trading, we have found that while it is possible to use one monitor, life is easier when there are more.
If you are a TraderTv Live watcher, you will surely have noticed Neal and Shawn’s setup.
Television sets
Another important aspect of setting your trading floor is to have access to the latest news . Not only by computer.
As such, having a good access to financial media like Bloomberg and CNBC is an added advantage for you. Therefore, you can buy at least two TV sets and have them mounted inside your floor/room .
There are several benefits of having TV sets in your floor. First, it will make it look more professional. Second, it will help you have the latest news from the most credible sources. Third, you will have access to the latest analysis .
Notably, the TV sets donât need to be extremely expensive. In Amazon, you can find quality TV sets going for less than $200.
TV can also be an alternative method to save space in your trading desk . Four monitors would take up a lot of space!
Other items you need in your floor
The items mentioned above are the most important in your trading floor. But there are others that you can have , including:
- Water dispenser â As you trade, you need to also take care of your body. As such, having a good water dispenser will help you access it faster.
- Treadmill â Similarly, taking care of your body is important. As such, you can invest in a good treadmill for you to exercise on.
- Air conditioning â Depending on where you love, having an excellent air-conditioned room will help you keep you comfortable.
- Book shelf â Having access to books will help you become a better trader. You can buy a good book shelf to store your trading library.
Your trading room and your desk are an important part especially when you are a professional trader. Having access to these items will help make your floor (or room) more conducive for you and your traders.
Remember, as you start, you donât need to spend a lot of money buying these items. Instead, you can make it be like a journey where you improve your room when you can.

Live Trading Rooms
The Bullish Bearâs live trading rooms are focused on community. Our team strives to teach how to trade in a fun, safe, and interactive environment. We include daily streaming, chat, voice, real-time mentoring, and teaching. This presentation is for educational purposes only and the opinions expressed are those of the presenter only. All trades presented should be considered hypothetical and should not be expected to be replicated in a live trading account.
Trade Room Access
Our options and futures trade room contains diverse trading strategies focusing on stocks, options, and futures. This is our swing trading room as well. You can use this room to chat and bounce-off trade ideas and paper trade. We have people discussing different long-term plays as well as short-term strategies. For example, options spreads, iron condors, calls, and puts, trading the $ES, $NQ, micro futures, and other popular futures products. There is a lot of discussion regarding earnings, the FOMC, overall market conditions, and so on.
We are an anti-pumping community . Thatâs why futures trading differs from stocks, and we love it. It isnât easy to pump futures. Youâll notice in our day trade room (penny stocks) that we donât call out entries and exits. This is because we want you to be independent traders and donât want stock pumping in our trading rooms. Hence the difference with the entries and exits in futures. Futures trading has many benefits. You can use candlesticks, patterns, and technical analysis for futures like stocks. Itâs necessary to do so. Our trading courses will teach you how to trade price action and prepare you for what youâll learn daily in our trade rooms.
Our penny stocks trade room focuses on stocks ranging from sub $1 to $10. We also look at stocks up to the $20 range, depending on whatâs running. Each day we look at the morning gappers to see whatâs running in the premarket. Then weâll map out intraday support and resistance levels and build our watch list before the market opens. At open, we pay attention to whatâs running and look at the best setups. We go over in real time how price action works with penny stocks, both good and bad. Our team also scans for plays that are running during market hours as well.
We want to be upfront that our team does not call out trades in our trade rooms. Blindly following anyone into a trade is dangerous, especially concerning penny stocks. Itâs a great trade room to learn how to trade penny stocks the right way and the safe way .
Our live trade rooms are designed to foster communication with like-minded individuals. There are no questions too silly to ask. Community members can interact and ask questions through chat or voice in our Discord. Everyone was a new trader once, including us. So, we understand. As a result, weâve developed a trading education community that espouses what we searched for when we started.
It doesnât matter how seasoned of a trader you are; sometimes, you like having confirmation from someone else that youâre seeing a potentially great setup. Have you ever been sitting at your trading station wishing you had someone to run a setup or a stock by? Trading rooms can be quite a useful tool. However, it depends on your goals for trading.
Live Trading Chat Rooms
The Bullish Bears trade rooms are geared towards teaching you how to trade in a real-world environment. Our team reviews what stocks are running, trade ideas, and setups, and shows you real-world trading experience. We love our members’ camaraderie with each other and their enthusiastic spirit of helping each other become better traders. We’ll teach you the skills how to become an independent trader. It’s important to learn how to develop your skillsets on how to trade and never follow anyone else’s trades, including ours.
There are a lot of trading rooms in the industry. Just check your social media feed, and you’ll see their ads all over the place. So what makes us different? We emphasize and focus on teaching you how to trade and not on pumping ourselves up.
Learning how to trade for yourself is important, and not rely on some company or trading guru to call out trades for you. That’s a recipe for disaster and precisely why most traders fail. You’ll need to know how to scan for setups and place trades yourself to succeed as a trader. That’s what we’ll teach you.
Live trading rooms can provide a community you didn’t know you needed. Weâve discovered that community can be just as great a stock training tool as anything in helping you trade. We ensure no spammers, pumpers, or trolls are in our chat rooms. We want to provide a safe place for our members to have discussions and get questions answered in a kind, helpful way.
Price action is the name of the game as a trader. Patterns aren’t 100% foolproof. They fail at times, but they are the most important guide. Candlesticks show support and resistance levels, which is everything when it comes to trading. Knowing when to buy low and sell high is key to becoming a profitable trader.
Our eBook and candlestick courses are helpful guides on teaching you price action. The more you look at patterns, the more that these patterns will jump out at you. You’ll start seeing patterns in everyday life.
The Bullish Bears Discord is custom-built with some of the industry’s leading scanners, tools , and Discord bots . All these tools cost several hundred dollars per month but are included in your membership. We can stress enough how valuable these tools are and the incredible amount of time and effort it took our team to customize each.
If you’re new to trading, it’s important to wait before using these tools. We have a three-step learning model within our community. Discover, Learn, Apply. We teach you how to discover your trading style in our beginner’s course. You’ll learn how your trading style works in our courses. Then you’ll learn how to apply your trading style in our trade rooms. Once you’ve developed your trading strategy and practiced it in a paper trading account, you should start looking at these tools. Again, make sure to practice using them in a virtual account first before going live. Please read our Disclaimer .
Study and Practice
Learn different trading styles, get started, discord trade rooms.
Discord is the central hub for our trading community. It’s a great place to apply your trading style and interact with traders worldwide. The Bullish Bears want to think of our trading rooms and community as the pay-it-forward movement within the trading world. Our team teaches you each day on their live streams without holding back.

A stock trade room is where traders collaborate daily to trade the stock market. They chat, trade, have fun, look at charts, and discuss trade ideas. Trading can be a lonely vocation. Youâre sitting in front of a computer for hours and watching charts for potential setups. Sometimes being alone in the quiet can feel overwhelming and drive you crazy. Thatâs where trading rooms and a community of support can make a huge difference in how you trade. It doesnât matter how seasoned of a trader you are; sometimes, you like having confirmation from someone else that youâre seeing a potentially great setup.
Stock trading chat rooms can be a helpful place to learn your trading strategy if you're willing to put in the time and effort. Watching how price action works in real-time can be an invaluable experience. It's important to realize that all trading decisions are ultimately your responsibility. Do not follow anyone into any trades without knowing how to trade for yourself.

STOCK TRAINING DOESNâT NEED TO BE HARD
Stock training doesnât need to be hard. But it sure feels hard when you donât know where to turn for legitimate knowledge. There are tons of places to learn, but what makes us different?
Well, for starters, weâre just real everyday people who like trade stocks. Weâre not gurus portraying a fancy lifestyle of cars and jets and beaches. Can you obtain those things with what we teach you? Sure you can. Is that what motivates us when teaching you how to trade?
Nope. What we really care about is helping you, and seeing you succeed as a trader. We want the everyday person to get the kind of training in the stock market we would have wanted when we started out.
WHY WEâRE DIFFERENT
What else makes us different? When it comes to the stock market, weâve won, weâve lost, weâve lived, and learned. Weâve been through the ups and downs in the market and figured out what really matters. The ChartsâŠCandlesticks = PRICE ACTION! Weâve created a site that passes all this knowledge on to you.
We donât charge you an arm and a leg for the stock training we give you. We charge a modest amount that goes towards running our day-to-day operations and paying for our invaluable team moderators that are passionate about teaching YOU!
Thatâs about it. We could charge more, but we have a pay it forward, give back mentality. Itâs not about the money. The best and most important thing for us is YOU. We want to feel good about what we do, and the results and reviews speak for themselves.
Those emails we get, the feedback, the success we see. That is what our educational trading community is all about. We hold no secrets back. Our trading edge is your trading edge.
STOCK TRAINING DONE RIGHT
We donât care what your motivation is to get training in the stock market. If itâs money and wealth for material things, money to travel and build memories, or paying for your childâs education, itâs all good. We know that youâll walk away from a stronger, more confident, and street-wise trader.
In our stock trading community, youâre going to get it all. Futures, options trading, and stocks. Not just penny stocks either. Small, mid, and large caps. Each day we have several live streamers showing you the ropes, and talking the community though the action.
Thereâs no catch, no smoke or mirrors. What you see is what you get. If youâre looking to change your life, or someone elseâs, weâre here to help you reach that goal. Get started learning day trading, swing trading, options, or futures trading today!

How a Trading Room Can Help You, and What to Avoid
How a trading room can help you, and what to avoid when looking for one.
There is one simple truth behind every successful trader that aspiring traders miss out on.
Successful traders stick together and trade in groups.
Go visit any professional trading desk and youâll notice there are multiple people doing the same job.
They are trading different strategies, different products and looking for different things.
But when the opening bell rings they come together to collaborate, share opinions and ideas and grow as a community.
If you want to be a trade just for isolation purposes, I suggest taking a vacation instead.
Because to be a profitable and successful trader you need to join a community, a trading room with other like minded individuals.
How do you choose the right trading room environment?
Here are some considerations.
How a Trading Room Can Help You â What to Look For
1) community learning environment.
The first thing you want to find is a trading room that is a community. You want to be in a group of like minded traders.
But also you want to be in an environment that has better traders than you and traders that are newer than you.
Because a true community is full of people that can help you AND people that you can help.
True learning happens when you actually teach others!
You should look for a trading room with a supportive community of members that respect themselves and other members. The room should have a purpose and drive to be helpful and inspirational to you. You should feel excited and empowered.
Like our trading room. Â
Every day we focus on empowering and helping our members, as well as analyzing markets and finding live trading opportunities.
However, the first and foremost goal is to grow and profit as a collective, as a true team.
2) Sampling the Market â Find out Professional Market Sentiment
One other reason you want to be in a trading room is to be able to sample the market opinion. If you are in a room full of traders with diverse opinions, you are in good position to read the entire market sentiment.
No matter how far out a traderâs idea is, no matter how different, it can be helpful to you if you keep an open mind.
Being in a trading room will identify new opportunities, new challenges, new areas of growth and development and more.
In the business of trading, if you are not growing you are on route to losing.
3) Product Expert Advantage â Be an Expert on Multiple Markets
This point is similar to the last one.
If you are in a trading room with traders who have expertise in different markets, itâs like YOU HAVE that expertise also.
As an equities trader, if you are looking for a short opportunity and the bond expert doesnât think the US 30 year bonds arenât going to rise â you have a discrepancy.
If the gold trader also thinks gold is about to drop, it may be time to reconsider. Various opinions can act like your trade qualifiers and disqualifiers. This is a massive advantage and benefit.
The bottom line is this, the more depth and width the trading room product experts have the more likely you are to succeed for the long term.
In our trading room for example, we have multiple traders who specialize in every product you can think of. This is the TRADEPRO edge â we trade whatever moves.
What to Avoid AT ALL COST When Searching for a Trading Room
Just like there are reasons to gravitated towards a trading room, there are reasons to absolutely avoid one also.
1) Trade Signals â Looking to Copy Trades
This is by far the biggest thing to avoid when looking for a trading room.
If you are looking to just copy someoneâs trades, you are NOT a trader. You are just a client with money looking for someone to manage it for you.
There are many solutions on the market that can help you with your goals for a lower emotional and financial cost.
Trading rooms that broadcast their signals are a massive no-no for me.
First, because the moderator can make a âtrade callâ to get long something and if the market is small (like penny stocks) you following the trader will actually create the rally.
Who do you think is selling as youâre buying to mirror the trade?
The moderator who was long before they provided the signal.
I strongly discourage anyone from looking to outsource the most important part of trading â the execution component.
You will never see that in our room for a good reason. We teach you how to fish so you can feed your family, not just provide you a fish once in a while.
You are who will be responsible for your success, and YOUR trades are the best trades for YOU.
2) Chat Room â Is There Value or Just Banter?
The second aspect you should clarify is whether the trading room is just a chat or a working group?
Do traders in there trade, or are they just making loose commentary and voicing opinions?
You do not want to follow anyoneâs opinion who does not have any skin in the game, thatâs the bottom line.
If you are just looking for banter and entertainment, ANY mainstream âbusiness newsâ channel can provide that for free.
Heck, thatâs about all they provide.
In our trading room, we are trading focused and analyze multiple markets. We get multiple traders opinions and outlooks who have live positions.
3) Price Commitments and Long Term Contracts
Never sign up for a trading room that asks for a payment up front.
One of the best aspects of trading is the freedom based lifestyle.
Companies which offer high priced contract products donât understand the benefits of being a trader. What are the chances they understand how to trade inside the room?
Now Iâm sure there are exceptions, and if you find one you feel in sync with that charges a lot feel free to ask for a trial first. Donât just jump right into a massive commitment without some research and due diligence. Treat it like a trade, do your research and then decide.
Our trading room is included in our Day Trader package here >
The charge is monthly, there are no commitments, contracts, cancellation fees or hassles.
We even offer a 14 day money back guarantee!
Trading Room Conclusion
When it comes time to choosing a trading room, remember that there is NO best option.
Trading rooms are not a one size fits all solution. There is a best option for you, but not one for everyone in general.
Our trading room is geared towards serious traders who want to learn how to become professionals. We are not gamblers, trade signal generators or just here for fun.
In our trading room we make a living trading daily and take care of one another like family.
We refer to ourselves as the TRADEPRO Family and we invite you to join us.
Whatever option you choose, just make sure you feel like you fit in the community.
Donât try to fit in on purpose. Once youâve found the right place to call home youâll know.
I hope to see you inside our daily trading room so I can introduce you to the rest of the TRADEPRO family.

How To Experience the New York Stock Exchange
By Gabriella Hammond
September 4, 2023
Want to experience the New York Stock Exchange? Itâs not the most obvious NYC attraction, but itâs one of the most defining places for the city. This birthplace of businesses will forever stand as an anchor of Lower Manhattanâs financial community.
Compared to its early days, NYSE visits to the stock exchange have changed quite a bit. But it’s still worth visiting today. Like so many New York landmarks, the stock exchange isn’t just a building, but a critical part of the cityâs history. And its influence stretches beyond the borders of New York to the rest of the country and even the world.
Excited about visiting the New York Stock Exchange yet? In this article, Iâll explain what exactly it is, what you can see when you go, and the best way to experience it.
What is the New York Stock Exchange?
The New York Stock Exchange â also known as the âBig Boardâ â is one of the oldest and largest stock exchanges on the planet. Located on Wall Street in Lower Manhattan, the NYSE stands as both a symbol of capitalism and as the financial center of the U.S.
Easily the most important landmark on Wall Street, the stock exchange practically created the Financial District by marking the neighborhood as an area of business. Wall Street was actually named for a real wall, built by Dutch settlers to keep out British forces. This wall served as an unofficial trading post for residents, beginning the business traditions that would continue in this same location for hundreds of years.
When the main building was built in 1903, it impressed everyone with its size and majesty. The opening solidified the prominence of the New York Stock Exchange and all but guaranteed that Lower Manhattan would be a neighborhood of commerce.
And it still is today.
A brief history of the NYSE
It all started on May 17, 1792, when 24 brokers and merchants met under a buttonwood tree. At the time, this tree was the tallest thing in Lower Manhattan, which, in retrospect, is a pretty appropriate setting to sign an agreement that would grow to play a very significant role in both the United States and global economies.
It was under this tree that these two dozen individuals signed the Buttonwood Agreement, establishing the grounds for trading at what was then called the New York Stock & Exchange Board.
That name was shortened in 1863 to what we know today: the New York Stock Exchange.
Guide tip: To commemorate the document that led to its creation, the stock exchange planted a new buttonwood tree out front. The tree isnât nearly as full or towering as the original, but it’s the symbolism that counts. Snap a pic in front of the tree and tell all your friends you saw a replica of the most important tree in NYC â then watch as theyâre amazed.
The NYSE trading floor: A New York legend
The NYSE has always been an exciting place with exciting things happening every minute. Up until the early 2000s, the trading floor was full of people frantically running around, shouting numbers and exchanging hand signals with each other.
The exchange even had a special trading floor clock without hour markers. There are only five-minute markers, because each trader had just five minutes to trade their stock. Talk about pressure!
You can imagine how hectic it got in there since, up until the past few decades, all the trading was done on the trading floor itself. These days, with the rapid advances in technology and the internet, most trades around the globe have transitioned to electronic systems. The NYSE is becoming one of the few remaining trading floors where humans are still actively trading in person.
Now, that doesnât mean itâs been abandoned. In fact, in 2007, the exchange adopted a hybrid model that combines electronic and floor-based trading. It makes the trading floor all the more special because it combines the traditions of the past with the innovations of the future.
The trading floor today
Although the trading floor isnât as lively as it once was — with the decrease of frantic people running around and volume of open outcries — it is still just as exciting today. Currently, there are approximately 500-1,000 people trading on the floor each day.
Possibly the biggest change in the demographics of the Exchange is the increase of outside guests â and we donât mean tourists wanting to visit Wall Street. There have been more and more representatives from journalists across the world. About 33 media outlets come in and out of the building every day to broadcast from the NYSE floor.
Is the NYSE open to visitors?
Unfortunately, the exchange is no longer accessible to the public. Hereâs why.
After the September 11th attacks and the increase in security that followed, many buildings once open to the public were severely limited or shut down altogether. For the stock exchange, it meant no more public tours and security stands outside the entrance. A fence was even added to the front of the building to prevent pedestrians from getting too close.
Guide Tip: While the stock exchange is not accessible, around the corner is another famous financial building — the Federal Reserve, a bank the size of a block that has a massive gold vault inside.
How to experience the NYSE even if you canât go inside
Despite the new security measures, there are still many ways to experience the New York Stock Exchange without going inside. So there is no need to feel left out!
Here are a few suggestions if you want to visit the NYSE.
Listen for the bell
Every weekday, the opening bell of the NYSE is rung at 9:30 a.m. to mark the start of the dayâs trading. The closing bell is then rung at 4 p.m. to mark the end. When the guest ringing the bell fails to ring it for the acceptable amount of time â 10 seconds for the opening bell and 15 seconds for the closing bell â itâs not uncommon for the floor to erupt into boos (they take their bell ringing very seriously). If you are lucky enough, and happen to show up on the right day and time, you just might hear it emanating from outside.
In the past, the bells used to be rung by floor managers, but they later started inviting executives, public figures, and celebrities to ring them, which became a daily event. Who knows who you may spot by the NYSE and its surrounding areas if you show up at the right bell-time?
The opening and closing bells are one of those things both New Yorkers and non-New Yorkers alike have to experience at least once in their lifetime. Just donât show up on a weekend or a U.S. holiday when the bell definitely wonât be ringing.
Snap a selfie with a brand banner
For the past two decades, the stock exchange has started a tradition of hanging âfull façadeâ banners to celebrate and market special events and their listed companies.
Some of the past banners include the huge logos of:
On special holidays, like Independence Day, the American flag will hang proudly across the building. Thereâs no way you could miss it. The NYSE loves to build their brand with companies they work with. Maybe youâll spot the logo of a business you love hanging grandly in front of the building.
Donât feel shy about snapping a picture (or a few â no shame) in front of it. You get the iconic New York Stock Exchange and a larger-than-life example of NYC marketing without even having to go to Times Square . Thatâs a double whammy.
Take a tour of Wall Street
Unlike other monuments, experiencing the New York Stock Exchange isn’t as simple as buying a ticket. Most people walk right by or snap a picture and leave. It’s the history and significance that make it special. But unlike the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building , this history isnât displayed in a museum or exhibit for you to browse on your own.
The best way to learn about it is with a guide â but not just any guide, a Wall Street insider. That’s just what our guided tours of Wall Street do. You have two options when you visit Wall Street: an in-depth tour for NYC finance aficionado or an entertaining overview of Wall Street, New York City.
Here are our two Wall Street tours:
- 2 hours: Our award-winning Financial Crisis Tour is our in-depth tour. We cover the famous landmarks and dig into what happened during the 2008 financial crisis and its long-term effects on the stock market. Weâll even teach the finance lingo related to the crisis.
- 75 minutes: If you prefer something a bit shorter that delves into both the history of Manhattan and its financial hub, then the Wall Street Insider Tour is for you. Youâll still be touring with an insider, but the focus is more on the overall history of the American economy.

The NYSE hangs banners for their listed companies and for special occasions, but there are also certain days throughout the year reserved for special events.
One of these is during the holidays. Every year, there is a Christmas tree lighting on Broad Street, in front of the New York Stock Exchange. Lights are coiled around the exchangeâs Corinthian columns and around a massive pine tree. The moment when the single switch is flipped to light up the entire NYSE is truly an amazing sight. Listed company sponsors, artists, and partners all stop by to celebrate the holiday season. Itâs one of the oldest Christmas tree traditions that brings the public to the NYSE.
What are some other things to do on Wall Street?
Wall Street has plenty of other fun and historical sites to see. Before or after your visit to the stock exchange, you can check out:
- Fearless Girl, a bronze statue promoting female empowerment, directly across from the NYSE
- Federal Hall , a former treasury turned museum dedicated to George Washingtonâs presidential inauguration
- Trinity Church, a historic Gothic Revival church with a pretty cool Hamilton connection
- Fraunces Tavern, the cityâs longest-running restaurant
Visit Wall Street NYC for the NYSE and more
Itâs difficult to process all of this information about one building while simply standing outside the entrance, especially if youâre trying to do it on your own.
If you think about it, very few landmarks in the city still actively serve their original purpose. The New York Stock Exchange may be quieter than it once was, but the culture and buzz is as resounding as ever. However you feel about money or business, the stock exchange is a must-visit. Its creation gave New York power and status that still, to this day, contributes to making the city one of the greatest in America.
Thatâs part of why we love this corner of NYC here at The Wall Street Experience and enjoy sharing our insider perspective. On our Wall Street walking tours , you wonât learn just the history (though weâve got plenty of that, too). We share real-world stories from people whoâve worked inside the financial trenches of Wall Street. Their insight will help you see this place in a new light â not as facts and figures or even dollar signs but through the eyes of the people who have made it what it is today.

Visit the Chicago Board of Trade
- November 20, 2019
A visit to the Chicago Board of Trade is a must, especially in conjunction with our Downtown Bucket List tour for private groups . And little wonder that people want to visit. Standing like a giant at the head of the LaSalle Street canyon, the landmark tower is among the most photogenic in Chicago. The building is also overflowing with history and is perhaps the most recognizable example of Art Deco architecture in the city . Stopping by such a grand place can be overwhelming, so here are the highlights for when you visit the Chicago Board of Trade.
We research Chicago history and architecture like this while developing our live virtual events  and custom corporate events. Join us for our public virtual events  or book an exclusive team-building event for your private group . We can also create custom tours and original content creation about this Chicago topic and countless others.
The Lost Statues from the Old Board of Trade Building
One of the most curious artworks in Chicago sits in a plaza just east of the Board of Trade. A pair of 12-foot-tall granite statues stare out at Jackson Boulevard. As we related several years ago , these statues–representing agriculture and industry–originally stood on the facade of the original Board of Trade Building, which was constructed in 1883 and torn down in 1929
After that, the statues disappeared from the Loop. They were assumed lost forever, until the 1970s when they were found in an overgrown corner of the Forest Preserve of DuPage County . The full mysterious tale of the statues’ disappearance and eventual re-discovery can be recounted on our Downtown Bucket List tour for private groups .
Art Deco Architecture of the Chicago Board of Trade Building
Any visit to the Chicago Board of Trade has to include a healthy appreciation for its architecture. The 1930 design by Holabird and Root is a masterpiece of Art Deco design. Indeed, it takes up a sizable chunk of Art Deco Chicago . The pamphlet from the tower’s dedication perfectly captures the spirit of the building:
“Here it stands, completed, the Board of Trade Building, monarch of LaSalle Street, towering head and shoulder above its mighty neighbors, commanding focal point of Chicago’s financial heart.”
Visitors can fully appreciate the architecture from a block or two down LaSalle, let’s say at the intersection with Adams. From there one can fully grasp the overwhelming vertical nature of the design. The Board of Trade inevitably draws the eye upward, tracing a path into the endless Midwestern sky. Some of this is simply a reflection of the Art Deco ethos. The vertical piers , sudden setbacks , and dramatic nighttime lighting are all perfectly in tune with contemporary towers like New York’s Chrysler Building.
Ceres, Roman Goddess of Wheat and Queen of Chicago’s Skyline
One of the most famous elements of the Chicago skyline sits atop the Board of Trade. Up there, 605 feet above the street, Ceres, the Roman goddess of wheat, looks down upon the city. The statue’s sculptor, John Storrs, chose Ceres as a reference to the commodities trade in grain, which is what the Board of Trade grew rich and powerful on. Appropriately, Ceres holds a sheaf of wheat and a bag of corn.
To visit the Chicago Board of Trade’s most famous decorative element, you don’t need to scale the building though. A miniature version of Ceres is on display in the Art Institute of Chicago. Storrs helped support himself through the Great Depression by selling many of these small replicas to private art collectors.
Interestingly, Ceres also loomed above the original trading room on the fourth floor. The artist John W. Norton, who had studied at the Art Institute, painted a three-story mural of Ceres . Depicted bare-breasted, she holds another sheaf of wheat and sprinkles seeds. She now looks down upon the lobby of the Board of Trade’s rear addition.
Visit the Chicago Board of Trade Lobby
Any trip to the Financial District should include a visit to the Chicago Board of Trade lobby. Few other spaces can match its stunning streamlined luster. Gleaming marble piers, gilded bronze detail work, and an enormous wraparound light fixture transport you right back to 1930. Such glamour makes one want to wear a fedora and a snappy suit upon entering.
The symbolism hidden in the lobby is one of the highlights of our custom tours that visit the building , so I don’t want to spoil too much. I simply love that the food court in the basement is named Cellar’s Market. As a connoisseur of dad humor, that name is a masterpiece.
No More Tours of the Trading Floor
Sadly, one can no longer visit the Trading Floor. The beating heart of Chicago’s commodities trade and financial markets now sits mostly silent. The ‘ open outcry ‘ method of trading, which once dominated the Trading Room on the fourth floor, has been almost entirely eclipsed by computer trading. While some trading at the CBOT still relies upon open outcry, the trading floor itself moved into an addition constructed in the 1990s. The old trading floor, whose massive 3-floor windows dominate the building’s base, is now quiet office space. Even the famous trading pits have been filled with concrete. You can delve into this vanished history by visiting the neighboring Money Museum .
The Heart of Nature’s Metropolis
The Board of Trade Building is a stunning testament to the businesses which built Chicago. The trade in grains, which evolved into the futures market and commodities trading, placed Chicago in the center of Midwestern commerce. No building better expresses this history.

There is no shortage of things to discover in ChicagoâI love being an urban explorer and uncovering its hidden places. I have an MA in Public History from Loyola University Chicago, and I have worked as a museum educator and kindergarten teacher. My desire to learn new things fuels my passion for educating others, which I get to experience every day as a Chicago tour guide. I live in the northern neighborhood of Rogers Park.
Whether you are a first-time visitor or a lifelong resident, the vibrant history and modern majesty of Chicago never ceases to amaze. Iâm a graduate of Columbia College with an M.A. in Interdisciplinary Art. Iâve worked for many years as an educator at City Colleges of Chicago. As tour guide at Chicago Detours, I integrate my enthusiasm for culture and architecture with my passion as an educator. West Town/Noble Square area is home for me.
With our Chicago neighborhoods, vibrant cultural institutions and nearly two centuries of larger-than-life stories, thereâs never a dull moment here! Iâm a fifth generation Chicagoan and a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis. In addition to guiding tours, Iâm a creative writer and amateur genealogist. I also enjoy the cityâs dynamic theater scene. You can also read overlooked stories from 19th-century newspapers on my âSecond Glance Historyâ blog. I live in River North.
Chicago is unique as it always evolves into the future while holding on to the past. Iâm fascinated by how people latch on to old architecture but happily pave over others. My background is in theater and performance and Iâve been a tour guide here for more than 10 years. Currently Iâm finishing my Masterâs in Public History at Loyola University because I love to teach the history of this scrappy city. Iâm in the Edgewater neighborhood.

Why do 95% of traders fail?
Unprepared mindset, reliance on ineffective tools, progress naivety.
On TraderTom, the home of professional trader Tom Hougaard, you will find everything you need to pursue a path as a professional trader.
You can absorb the free material on price action, technical analysis, psychology, and you can observe Tom Hougaard trade â live â all day, every day.
Live Trading
TraderTom runs two live trading channels. You are welcome to be part of both. There is no cost to either of them.
Day Trading Channel:
Live day trading all day â very active channel with time sensitive live calls.
Swing Trading Channel:
Live swing trading â 3-5 trades a week â ideal for people who have other jobs.
Day Trading Channel
The Day Trading Channel posts âtime-sensitiveâ trades. That means that when I post my trades, you can expect the market to move in my favour (or against me) immediately.
Therefore, the Day Trading Channel is no use to you if you are working and you are unable to follow my posts on your PC or your mobile phone. You are still welcome to join and learn from the trade setups.
Swing Trading Channel
From the feedback I received, it became clear that there was a need for trading signals that had a longer time horizon. I wanted to separate the active time-sensitive day-trades from the less time-sensitive swing trades.
The important thing about the âSwing Tradingâ Channel is that there isnât more than 3-5 signals a week, and that the trades are held for longer periods of time.
Resources available to you
Whenever I am trading, I am making notes. It is just the way I operate. I find it helps me identify my weaknesses. The mind is a remarkable instrument, and it will do whatever it can to protect you from pain.
That means mistakes are quickly forgotten â because they are painful. By writing the mistakes down, I can refer to them later, and then learn from them.
