Can Uber Make Multiple Stops?

Uber allows riders to enter up to two stops per rid e, regardless of whether they’re en route. If you forgot to include a stop while booking, you can add it during the trip.

However, always input the stop into the app directly. Asking your driver to change the destination without updating the app isn’t fair to them, as they don’t get compensated for the change.

Be mindful that additional stops can increase the cost of your trip.

Your driver will wait for a maximum of three minutes at each stop. If you’re not out within that time frame, the driver can cancel the trip and move on to their next Uber rider.

Adding multiple stops on Uber can increase the fare because of the extra distance and waiting time. Uber calculates its fare based on the journey’s length and estimated time.

Typically, each stop incorporates three minutes of wait time, so adding more stops usually means an increased fare.

Keep in mind that the fare might change based on route adjustments and Uber’s ever-changing rates. If you schedule your stops ahead of time, you’ll be able to see the complete fare upfront.

Uber makes it simple to add your multiple stops while requesting the ride. Doing so can be done in just a few steps.

First, enter the address for your pick-up point in the “Enter pickup point” box on the Uber app.

If you’re not sure of the exact address, you can also search for places near you by tapping on the magnifying glass icon next to the text box.

Then, type in your destination’s name or address in the “Where to?” box.

Once your pick-up and destination addresses go through, tap on the “+” button near the text box. Doing so will open up a new screen where you can enter the addresses for your additional stops.

Input each destination’s address, then tap on “Add stop.” You can add up to two additional stops on your trip.

You don’t have to input all of your destinations at once. If you want to add more later, you can do that during your trip.

Finally, tap on the “Request UberX” or “Request UberXL” button to book your ride. As long as everything gets entered correctly, your driver will take you to all of your stops without any problems.

Take these steps if you need to add additional stops during an Uber ride.

  • Start by opening your app and viewing the live trip tracking screen.
  • At the bottom of your screen, you’ll see your ride details. Click on it or swipe up to bring up all the trip details.
  • You’ll see your destination (next to a GPS/map icon). Click on “Change or Add” next to the destination you entered.
  • Click the plus icon to add a stop.
  • Tap on “Update” to confirm your changes.
  • Uber will notify your driver automatically about your trip modification. It’s a good idea to tell them yourself as well, in case they don’t see it.

The process isn’t any different if you’re requesting multiple stops for a family member . Remember, you don’t need to physically sit inside the Uber car when using your phone to start an Uber trip.

  • Open your Uber app
  • Enter your family member’s pickup location in the “Enter pickup point” field
  • Enter their destination address in the “Where to?” field
  • Tap the “+” button to enter one or two multiple stop locations
  • Choose the UberX or UberXL option
  • An Uber driver will now make their way to your family member’s pickup location

Uber’s multiple stops feature isn’t available for UberPool , designed solely for sharing rides with unknown passengers heading in the same direction. If multiple stops are essential, riders must choose options other than UberPool.

In contrast, Uber Lux , a luxury service, allows multiple stops like the standard UberX. To save on costs, ensure stops are brief (within Uber’s three-minute waiting time) and minimize detours from the initial route.

Tips for Passengers When Adding Multiple Stops on Uber

When opting for Uber’s multiple stop feature, there are some essential guidelines that can enhance the experience for both the rider and the driver.

First and foremost, it’s highly recommended to proactively inform your driver about any planned stops before commencing the journey. This can easily be done using the Uber app, either by sending a text or making a quick call.

Giving your driver a heads-up not only avoids any unexpected detours but also helps the drivers plan the timing of their tip, which they will appreciate.

When I drive, I have people add last-minute stops all the time. While they are somewhat annoying to do, I always appreciate when they’re nice about it and truly consider how it impacts my day.

Equally crucial is being mindful of the time spent during each stop. While Uber has a general three-minute waiting rule, it’s always good practice to communicate with your driver about the expected duration of each one.

If you’ve indicated a certain waiting time – even if it’s slightly beyond the three-minute mark – ensure you stick to it. A prolonged delay might lead to the driver ending the trip earlier than expected, leading to potential inconvenience for the rider.

If you make a change to your Uber ride, make sure to throw your driver a few extra dollars for the inconvenience. Every time I add a stop, especially during a ride, I tip at least $3 extra, as I know that it affects the driver’s route, schedule, and ability to log off sooner than expected.

You never know – you could be that driver’s last ride, and the only thing standing in the way of plans with family or friends. Adding an extra trip could very well make them late for those plans.

We see a lot of questions about making stops when using Uber. Here are the most common ones.

vector graphic showing an uber pick up in progress with a woman getting into a rideshare vehicle

Can I Request the Same Uber Driver?

There’s no built-in way for an Uber passenger to request the same driver after completing a trip. However, you can ask your driver to wait at the destination if you plan on ordering a new ride right after you finish the current one.

Your driver will only see limited trip details before accepting a ride, so discuss your ride details with them beforehand; they may mistake another ride for yours and accept that one instead.

Can Uber Pick Up Different Passengers on the Same Fare?

No. Your Uber driver may agree to pick up a passenger without you adding a stop in the app. However, if your driver has to go out of the way to do so, your rate may go up in any case. In addition, it’s not fair to the driver, as they’ll be losing potential earnings.

Can Drivers Add a Stop During an Uber Trip?

Drivers are not supposed to add stops unless requested by the passenger. If your driver made an unrequested stop, and you were charged more than the original price Uber quoted, you can report it on this page  and request a refund.

You can also do that from the help section of your app or your trip history.

The Uber multiple stops option turns the transportation app into a far more flexible tool when you need to take trips.

It allows you to pick up friends on the way to the football game, make a stop for alcohol on the way to the party, or run a quick errand into the grocery store while making your way to the birthday party.

Open your Uber app and give it a try!

uber wait fee

Have you ever looked at your rideshare receipt and seen something called "wait fee"? If you're confused about what this charge means, we are here to tell you. Uber and Lyft charge you a fee if you show up late to your vehicle and make the driver wait for you to arrive.

This fee was introduced in the past year to benefit drivers and pay them for the time spent in the car waiting. It makes sense -- if a passenger makes the driver wait, the driver is missing out on the opportunity to complete more rides and make more money. However, the new "wait fee" policy gives passengers a mere two minutes to arrive to the car. When you're in a situation where you can't find the driver, or the driver starts the trip prior to you getting there, things start to get frustrating.

Uber issued this notice about the wait time fee for passengers:

A per-minute Wait Time fee will begin 2 minutes after your driver arrives at your location. We'll notify you that the charge has started, and it will continue until you enter your vehicle and the driver begins the trip.

The time starts to tick when the Uber's Driver App determines the driver has arrived at your location. It continues to tick until the driver clicks on "Start Trip."

Contrary to what you may assume, the driver actually does NOT need to indicate they have arrived. The GPS of the app makes this determination, so the driver can't say he arrived prior to when he/she actually did.

The best way to avoid this fee is to be on time, and not request the ride until you have arrived at your designated pickup location. This can be difficult when you don't want to be sitting around waiting for the Uber, but it beats paying an extra $5 on top of your trip fare.

If you think your wait fee was wrongly assessed, feel free to submit a ticket request in the app under your trip receipts. If you explain your situation to Uber, they might refund you for your wait fee.

uber round trip wait time

I get charged wait time fees all the time even though I am outside, ready and waiting. There are several reasons for this. Drivers tell me the app will start the wait time before they drive onto the property so if they are waiting in traffic to pull off the street, rider is charged. Also if the property is large (like a Sam's Club) and it takes the driver 2 minutes in the parking lot to reach you, the rider is charged. And if you have groceries to load, the rider is charged even more. Lastly, there are many times that the driver does not start the trip once your in and your name is confirmed, so even though I can't control this, the rider is charged. Lastly, thank goodness I am not elderly, don't have hip/knee/back impairments, not in the middle of a frequent New Orleans monsoon or fall down between my porch and the vehicle because me, the rider, would be charged. Shweta Mantri, Head of New Mobility, commented about the new feature at the launch. She stated that this novel function meets the needs of a whole new group of travellers who want greater ease and freedom. Up until now, out-of-town taxi travel has primarily been an unorganised sector.

They Are Eager To Retain Long Distance Travel In The Future

uber intercity round trip

However, with Uber’s host safety and tracking features available on all rides, Intercity round trips completely transform the game. Further, they are eager to reimagine long-distance driving in the future.

Along with the added benefit of tracking the voyage through the app, this will further remove the need to manually hire a local taxi service for travel. This will make the trip safer and much more dependable.

Steps To Book:

1. Select “Intercity” using the pull-down menu. (If “Intercity” is not available on the main screen, click “See all.”)

2. Enter your destination and select “Round Trip.”

3. Choose “Leave Now” if you need a car right away.

To reserve the automobile for a later time, select “Reserve” and provide the day and time of pick-up.

4. You have up to five days to choose your return date and time for the vehicle.

5. Choose the sort of vehicle that you desire.

6. Book your round-trip ticket after reviewing all the booking information on the confirmation screen.

With the introduction of this feature, travelling to another city gets easier as you won’t have to book a car for the entire trip. In fact, it also simplifies your options for return travel!

Scheduling a ride with Uber Reserve: Does it cost more?

By Doug H , Updated August 29, 2023 14 Comments

Did you know that you can schedule an Uber up to 90 days in advance ?

The scheduling feature on Uber is called Uber Reserve, and it comes in handy when you want to book a ride ahead of time.

When you schedule a ride, you get a guaranteed upfront price , and you can often match you with a driver ahead of your pickup time.

But reservations can be more expensive than regular on-demand Uber rides because of the Uber reservation fee and other pricing practices.

Read on to learn how scheduled rides work, how much they cost, and how you can make sure that your scheduled ride actually arrives.

What you need to know

  • To schedule an Uber ride, tap the clock icon in the destination entry box
  • Reservations include a reservation fee, which may make the ride more expensive than expected
  • You can cancel a reserved ride for free up to 60 minutes before your reservation
  • Reservations aren’t 100% reliable. Keep an eye on your phone 20 minutes before your reservation to confirm that you match with a driver

How to schedule an Uber ride

On the home screen of the Uber app, tap the clock icon in the “Where to?” search bar . Then, select a time for your reservation from the dropdown menu and input your pickup & drop-off locations.

You can also find the clock icon after you enter a destination.

After you select a date and time, select a ride type and confirm your reservation. Finally, you’ll see a confirmation screen and the ride will appear in your upcoming trip s .

During the scheduling process, you’ll see an option to enable or disable ‘auto rematch.’ Auto rematch will match you with a new driver if your scheduled driver is late.

Drivers can see and accept your reservation in advance. You will get a notification to confirm that you are matched with a driver.

If you aren’t matched with a driver far in advance, you will still be matched with a driver around 20 minutes before your reservation.

How to manage or cancel a reserved ride

To manage your reserved ride:

From the home screen: Tap Activity, then find your ride under the Upcoming section at the top of the screen.

You can’t edit your ride after making the reservation. If you made a mistake, you need to cancel the ride and start over.

There is no cancellation fee if you cancel more than 60 minutes before the reserved time, so there’s no penalty for adjusting your ride when your plans change.

How much do reserved rides cost?

You will see an upfront price estimate when you book your reservation . The system creates a price for your ride by using market data to predict the appropriate cost on the day and time that you schedule.

Reserved rides also include a ‘reservation fee.’ The reservation fee is a variable charge that riders pay to compensate drivers for the additional wait time with reservations.

Your upfront price will only change if your trip ends up being much longer than expected, or if you change the destination.

Typically the upfront price will stay the same as long as the ride isn’t significantly longer than the initial estimate.

Does it cost more to reserve a ride?

If your scheduled ride seems more expensive than expected, it’s because of the reservation fee that is added to every scheduled ride.

Uber doesn’t say exactly how reservation fees or upfront prices are calculated, so there’s not much you can do to figure out how to get a better price.

If your reserved ride seems expensive, try placing the reservation at different times of the day to see if the price changes.

The old scheduling system (still active in some markets)

In the past, Uber had a scheduling feature that only sent out an automated request a few minutes before your scheduled time. Uber did not attempt to match you with a driver when you first scheduled the ride.

That scheduling system is still active in some markets. You’ll know if you’re using the older system if there’s no information about upfront driver matching.

Under the older system, there was a greater chance that no drivers would accept your ride during a busy time. Driver rematching with Uber Reserve has proved to be more reliable for passengers.

Cancel fees and wait time for reserved rides

You can cancel a reserved ride for free up to 60 minutes before your reservation. You will be charged a cancellation fee if you cancel less than 60 minutes before your reservation.

You can also cancel for free if your driver is going to be 10+ minutes late when they are matched with you.

Example of cancel fees & wait times in Los Angeles

How reliable are uber reservations.

There’s an important section in the terms and conditions for Uber reservations: “ Uber doesn’t guarantee a driver will accept your ride request. Your ride is confirmed once you receive your driver details. ”

If Uber doesn’t guarantee that a driver will accept your request, how reliable can reservations be?

There’s a very good chance that the driver will show up if you reserve a ride and get pre-matched with a driver.

But remember that Uber drivers are independent contractors and are free to cancel your ride with little or no penalty.

It’s easy to find stories from upset passengers who had drivers cancel reservations at the last minute. What’s going on?

Some Uber drivers don’t like reservations: Why your reservation is getting cancelled

The benefits of Uber Reserve come with some drawbacks for drivers. Some drivers cancel reservations or never accept them to begin with.

One reason is that the reservation pricing system may not correctly predict the best market price at the time of the ride, resulting in a scheduled ride that doesn’t pay the driver as much as other rides.

Let’s say your upfront reservation price was $25. If there is unexpected surge pricing at the time of your ride, it might mean that your driver could get paid more for another ride that uses the current market price.

Another reason is the excessive wait time for drivers. Reservations sometimes send drivers to the pickup location up to 25 minutes before the reservation, and drivers aren’t paid for that wait time.

Any additional unpaid wait time is frustrating for drivers, so many choose to cancel the ride or skip reservations altogether.

Post from an Uber driver of an Uber reserve ride with a 25 minute wait time

This driver might have to wait nearly half an hour. Unpaid!

Keep an eye on your phone when you have a reservation coming up!

To ensure you get a ride, keep an eye on your Uber app at least 20 minutes before your reservation time.

If you aren’t matched with a driver and there are only a few minutes until your reservation, consider cancelling the reservation and manually requesting another ride.

You can cancel the reservation at no charge if your driver is going to be 10+ minutes late when they are matched with you.

Yes, you can schedule multiple rides. They will all show up in the “Activity” section of the app. For the airport ride, you’ll have to follow directions in the app to find the rideshare pickup area. When you land, open the Uber app and input the hotel as your destination. For more info, here is a page specifically about IAH . In terms of the cost, you can input the ride into the Uber app any time to get a general sense for how much it will be. Because you’re new to the app, I would recommend taking a test ride or two to get familiar with the app. You don’t want an important trip like an airport ride to be your very first trip.

2024 Masters leaderboard breakdown: Byson DeChambeau, Scottie Scheffler go low, set pace with Round 1 halted

There are plenty of low scores on the masters leaderboard, but dechambeau and scheffler may be tough to catch nonetheless.

A pair of former U.S. Ryder Cup teammates find themselves out in front of the field after the first day of play at the 2024 Masters. Round 1 action was suspended at 7:51 p.m. ET due to darkness, but it is Bryson DeChambeau who puts head to pillow with the clubhouse lead overnight.

Catching fire during the early wave Thursday and utilizing eight birdies to card a 7-under 65, DeChambeau was clinical around Augusta National Golf Club. Ranking second from tee to green and first with the putter in hand, the 2020 U.S. Open champion put himself in a fine position to claim another of golf's grandest prizes.

In order to do so, DeChambeau will have to take down the man who stood alongside him at Whistling Straits a few years ago, Scottie Scheffler. The world No. 1 looked exactly like the world No. 1 should look Thursday as he navigated the tricky conditions at Augusta National in bogey-free fashion en route to a 6-under 66.

Racing to the finish line with four birdies over his last seven holes, Scheffler got through the worst of the conditions unblemished; instead of shriveling, he thrived. While he was unable to tack on one final birdie at the last to catch DeChambeau, he is undoubtedly the favorite to add one more major to his belt.

Scheffler was not the only Masters champion to find his stride Thursday as Danny Willett sits in third in the clubhouse at 4 under in his first start since September 2023 due to injury. Major staples like Will Zalatoris, Brian Harman, Tommy Fleetwood and Patrick Reed are lurking, while Rory McIlroy fired an under-par round to keep himself in the mix in his latest chase for the career grand slam.

Watch the final three rounds of the 2024 Masters continuing Friday with  Masters Live  as we follow the best golfers in the world through Augusta National with  Featured Groups , check in at the famed  Amen Corner  and see leaders round the turn on  holes 15 & 16 . Watch live on  CBSSports.com , the  CBS Sports app  and  Paramount+ .

2024 Masters leaderboard, Round 1 in progress

1. Bryson DeChambeau (-7): It was a controlled round for Bryson after he got off to a dream start with three straight birdies out of the gate. He hit 10 fairways, 15 greens in regulation and got up and down at an 86% clip. DeChambeau putted the ball beautifully on top of that, experiencing a renewed sense of patience on the golf course. He finished T29 in the 2019 Masters after holding the first-round lead.

"Winning at Winged Foot helped me understand how to win big tournaments," DeChambeau said. "But a lot of patience, especially out here on this golf course where you feel like it's gettable, you see it's right in front of you, but it's just tricky out here. It can be super tricky. Making sure that you play aggressively but in a safe manner to where it's not going to get you into too much trouble. So, for me, as my game has progressed, I've learned to be a -- I've tried to be a little bit smarter out there on the golf course and not try to go for broke and go for every flag but place it in the right position."

2. Scottie Scheffler (-6): There just aren't enough words to describe this guy. Scheffler led the field from tee to green, was slightly above average on the greens and got around a difficult Augusta National without dropping a shot. Now, it was not without a little good fortune as he holed a bunker shot on the par-3 12th for birdie and received a great break on the next when it appeared his second was destined for Rae's Creek. He skirted the water and instead added another birdie before picking up two more on his second nine, but that's what the great ones do. Scheffler's 66 was the lowest of his Masters career and his first bogey-free effort at Augusta National.

3. Nicolai Hojgaard (-5): Three holes still to play.

T4. Danny Willett, Max Homa (-4): Homa came into this week without much on his major résumé, and he is on pace to post his best ever opening round in a major championship with five holes left in his round. He impressed alongside Tiger Woods on Thursday and capped an impressive day with a nice up-and-down birdie on the par-5 13th to navigate Amen Corner in even-par fashion.

T6. Ryan Fox, Cameron Davis, Tyrrell Hatton (-3): Hatton has four holes still to play.

T9. Will Zalatoris, Ludvig Aberg, Tommy Fleetwood, Joaquin Niemann and four others (-2): One year removed from withdrawing for the Masters and opting for back surgery, Zalatoris finds himself in the major mix once again. Arriving with a stellar history at Augusta National that consisted of a runner-up performance in his debut and T6 in his second stroll, the wiry right hander is at it again. He kickstarted his round thanks to playing the second-nine par 5s in 3 under, but dropped shots on his final two holes left him at 2 under and with a bad taste in his mouth.

"That's the thing about this place, is that you get so much wind, so much swirling," Zalatoris said. "I hit 10 great golf shots on the last two holes coming in. That's just part of what it is around this place. It's playing brutal but it's a lot of fun right now. The course was very fair. Even with everything that we've gone through. Overall, yeah, very pleased."

Aberg and Fleetwood both have holes still to play.

T17. Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, Patrick Cantlay, Viktor Hovland, Tony Finau, Matt Fitzpatrick and eight others (-1): There is a lot of good news for McIlroy, who signed for his first under-par opening round at the Masters in six years. He played the par 5s in even par, missed a short birdie chance on the 16th and could have easily squeezed out a couple more shots here or there. McIlroy's wedge play was a smidge sloppy leading to a dropped shot on the par-5 2nd and not aiding him in up-and-down efforts on two other occasions. Woods opened with a birdie, went back to par after the 4th and then birdied the 8th to maintain his score with five holes left to play.

T32. Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas, Brooks Koepka, Shane Lowry, Tom Kim and five others (E): This is probably a disappointed bunch, especially someone like Schauffele who came into the week riding so much momentum. The world No. 5 made dropped two shots in his first four holes and slugged his way back to even par on the second nine. Outside of his iron play, Schauffele struggled, but he is not totally out of this tournament if he can post a low one on Friday. Koepka is only through the 11th.

T42. Jon Rahm, Phil Mickelson, Wyndham Clark, Dustin Johnson, Collin Morikawa and seven others  (+1): The defending champion got off to a nice start playing his first nine in 2 under, but it fell apart from there. A second-nine 39 was the result of loose iron swings and a little frustration boiling over. He dropped shots on 17 and 18 to come in right around the course average on Thursday.

"It's a difficult golf course," Rahm said. "That's all I can say. It's not easy. You're not really having the luxury out there of being able to miss shots, especially tee shots. Unfortunately, on that back nine I missed a few too many shots."

Rick Gehman, Greg DuCharme and Patrick McDonald recap Round 1 of the Masters from Augusta National. Follow & listen to The First Cut on  Apple Podcasts  and  Spotify .

Play suspended due to darkness at 7:52 p.m. ET

The horn has been sounded and players now face the choice on whether they want to complete the hole they are currently on. Tiger Woods, Max Homa and Jason Day are around the green on the par-5 13th with players such as Brooks Koepka, Jordan Spieth behind them. These guys will have to complete most of their second nines tomorrow morning.

Koepka keeping his cool

The five-time major champion hasn't made much noise, but he is right there kind of hanging around. Koepka exchanged a birdie for a bogey on his first nine to turn in even par and will have a chance to put his foot on the gas with some birdie chances on this side. Whether this chance comes tonight or tomorrow morning depends on the sunlight.

Tiger, Max hummin'

These two are kind of feeding off each other, I think. Max Homa turns in 4 under thanks to birdies on Nos. 8-9 while Tiger is back in red figures as well thank to a birdie on the par 5. It has been clinical from Tiger up until his approach into the 10th which will short side him and set up a tricky par attempt.

Scheffler shoots 6-under 66

That was clinical from the world No. 1. Scheffler signs for six birdies, 12 pars and will sign for a bogey-free 6-under 66 to put himself just one behind Bryson DeChambeau. In a shocking development, Scheffler ranked first in strokes gained tee to green on Thursday.

Rahm shoots 1-over 73

The defending champion experienced a second nine to forget at Augusta National. After turning in 2 under, Rahm came home in 3-over 39 in part to back-to-back bogeys to finish. The world No. 3 was sloppy with his iron play throughout the day and never looked super comfortable en route to his 1-over 73.

Scheffler surging to the finish line

The world No. 1 tacks on a couple second-nine birdies and finds himself just one behind Bryson DeChambeau. Scheffler heads to 18 with a chance to tie the first-round lead while other players like Will Zalatoris, Matt Fitzpatrick and Jon Rahm are faltering down the stretch.

Mi precio no se corresponde con la estimación que se me mostró

When you select any vehicle option other than taxi, the price/ price range displayed in the app at the beginning of the trip above the slider is the expected fare you'll be charged for the ride. If your final fare does not reflect the upfront price you were shown when you requested your trip, there are a few things you can check to troubleshoot. 1. Was your destination changed during your trip? The upfront fares are based on the exact pickup and drop off locations that you input, so when that trip is changed, our system switches to charging based on the time and distance of the actual trip instead, using the rates that apply to the vehicle option you selected. 2. Did you make any extra stops on your trip? Similar to a change in destination, extra stops can result in changing the fare to be charged based on the time and distance of the trip taken. This helps ensure that your driver is fairly compensated for the trip taken. We'll review whether your trip qualifies for an adjustment. In addition, the upfront price you're shown may change due to other circumstances, which may include significant changes to the route or duration of the trip or if you pass through a toll that was not factored into your upfront price. Additionally, you may incur wait time fees for the time you take to get to the car at the pickup or multi-stop fees for time spent at an on-trip stop. The wait time fee grace period and the commencement of the no-show window start at the time of a driver’s arrival at a pick-up location. A driver’s arrival time is based on technology that uses GPS coordinates, which do not always perfectly correspond to real-world coordinates. Your upfront price may change if you add stops, update your destination, take additional time at an on-trip stop, or the route or duration of the trip changes significantly. If you did not make the above changes to your trip and your final fare was more than what you were shown at the start of the trip, please let us know by entering the date below. We'll review whether your trip qualifies for an adjustment. *Time and distance pricing does not apply to Uber Reserve, which is paid as an upfront fare. Please note that, as of August 10, 2022, multi-stop fees are not live in all US markets.
