Prince George was pictured visiting Eton College with his parents Kate Middleton and Prince William. The Prince and Princess of Wales were spotted yesterday touring the campus with their eldest son, who turns 10 next month. It's possible that in three years, the young prince will attend the all boys school, which is located near Windsor Castle.

When Prince William enrolled in Eton in 1995, he became the first senior royal to attend the school in Berkshire, England. Both his father, King Charles, and grandfather, Prince Philip, attended Gordonstoun, a boarding school in Scotland, but his maternal uncle and grandfather attended Eton. Other royals had attended Eton, including Queen Elizabeth's first cousins Prince Edward , Prince Richard , and Prince Michael .

Prince William was 13 years old when he began Eton, and his younger brother Prince Harry followed him three years later, enrolling in 1998.

Spare

In his memoir, Spare , Harry calls enrolling at Eton "a profound shock." He writes the school was "heaven for brilliant boys, it could thus only be purgatory for one very unbrilliant boy." Harry also writes that William pretended not to know him at school. "For the last two years, [William] explained, Eton had been his sanctuary. No kid brother tagging along, pestering him with questions, pushing up on his social circle. He was forging his own life, and he wasn't willing to give that up."

Prince William graduated from Eton in 2000, took a gap year, then enrolled at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. There, he met Kate Middleton . And the rest, they say, is history.

Prince George has been spotted on a visit to Eton with his parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales.

The nine-year-old was seen with Prince William and Kate Middleton on the grounds of the boarding school, which educates boys aged between 13 and 18.

It has sparked speculation that George, who turns 10 next month, will follow in the footsteps of his father and uncle, Prince Harry, who both boarded at Eton College .

On its website, Eton is described as a “modern, forward-thinking school that embraces innovation and new opportunities to provide an outstanding, progressive and well-rounded education”.

George currently attends private Lambrook School near Ascot in Berkshire, along with his siblings eight-year-old Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, aged five.

George and Charlotte began their school days happily at private day school Thomas’s Battersea – a busy, cosmopolitan establishment in south London – with George starting in 2017 and Charlotte in 2019.

Their father William and uncle Harry went to board at Eton for five years. William’s first day began with a photocall with his separated parents joining him in a show of solidarity, with Harry also taking part.

The 13-year-old smiled broadly as he was greeted by scores of photographers.

George, Charlotte and Louis’ grandfather, King Charles III, had a difficult time at secondary school as a teenager.

Charles was sent to Gordonstoun School in Moray, Scotland, following in the footsteps of his father Prince Philip, the late Duke of Edinburgh, but was picked on and described his days there as “a prison sentence”.

Charles did admit, however, that the school instilled him with self-discipline and a sense of responsibility.

Prince George spotted visiting Prince William’s alma mater Eton College

Prince George, Kate Middleton, Prince William and Prince Louis

School ties.

Prince George may be attending his father Prince William’s alma matter, Eton College, sometime in the future.

The 9-year-old was seen visiting the school with William, 41, and mom Kate Middleton Wednesday, according to Hello! magazine.

For the trip, the little prince donned navy shorts and a short-sleeved shirt.

George stood next to his father, who matched in a blue casual suit.

Middleton, 41, and William were spotted happily talking with employees by a sign that said: “Porters’ Lodge.”

The Prince of Wales attended Eton — which sits next to Windsor Castle — in 1995 when he was 13.

Five years later, he graduated and made his way to college at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.

George will be turning 10 next month, however, in order for him to be eligible for a 2026 entry at Eton, children should be registered  by June.

The institution costs about $58,000 a year and is for boys 13 to 18.

The all-male elite school was founded by King Henry VI in 1440 and many prominent figures have attended including Eddie Redmayne, Tom Hiddleston and former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Prince William

Several other members of the royal family have also earned their diplomas from Eton, including the late Queen Elizabeth’s first cousins Prince Edward, Prince Richard and Prince Michael.

As for George, he has been attending Lambrook School in Berkshire since September 2022 alongside his younger siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

William’s younger bother, Prince Harry, is also an alum of Eton, having been a student there between 1998 and 2003.

Prince William

The Duke of Sussex, 38, gave some insight into his experience at the school, writing in his recent memoir “ Spare ” that going to Eton was “a profound shock.”

“[While Eton was] heaven for brilliant boys, it could thus only be purgatory for one very unbrilliant boy,” Harry wrote, adding that William refused to acknowledge him when they saw each other during class.

The Invictus Games founder went on: “[William] explained, Eton had been his sanctuary. No kid brother tagging along, pestering him with questions, pushing up on his social circle. He was forging his own life, and he wasn’t willing to give that up.”

Prince George and Prince William

William was the first senior royal to be educated at the institution, as his father King Charles and grandfather Prince Philip had attended the Scottish boarding school, Gordonstoun.

The monarch, 74, reportedly despised Gordonstoun when he was enrolled there in the 1960s.

Charles was bullied mercilessly during his time there — which has allegedly made him a   “kinder” and more “emphatic” sovereign.

Prince George was seen touring Eton College with Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Prince George appears to be following in his dad’s footsteps.

The eldest son of Prince William and Kate Middleton was seen touring the prestigious Eton College in Windsor, England, Wednesday.

The trio was spotted talking to two members of staff at the school, which William began attending in 1995, and his brother, Prince Harry, in 1998.

The 9-year-old wore a pair of navy shorts, a blue short-sleeved shirt and black shoes as he stood beside his father, who looked smart in a blue jacket and a pair of dark trousers.

Middleton, who also shares daughter Charlotte, 8, and son Louis, 5, with the Prince of Wales, looked radiant in an aquamarine dress and beige ballet pumps with a small heel.

She styled her brunette hair in loose waves, which blew in the wind while she spoke to the staff members at the boys-only school.

The institution costs about $58,600 a year in fees, and has educated the likes of actor Eddie Redmayne and former British Prime Ministers Boris Johnson and David Cameron.

Although Eton only accepts boys from the age of 13, George will celebrate his 10th birthday next month, so it’s thought his parents may be getting him familiar with the school early.

He currently attends Lambrook School in Berkshire — along with his two younger siblings — which has a strong environmental focus and dozens of music classes on offer.

Unlike William and Harry, George’s grandfather, King Charles lll, attended the Scottish boarding school Gordonstoun.

Prince George

He was sent to the school by his father, Prince Philip, who also attended the school. However, Charles is believed to have “detested” his time there.

Novelist William Boyd said the newly crowned monarch described it as “penal servitude.”

Charles has downplayed these reports through the years.

“I am always astonished by the amount of rot talked about Gordonstoun and the careless use of ancient clichés used to describe it,” he said during a House of Lords speech in 1975.

“It was only tough in the sense that it demanded more of you as an individual than most other schools did – mentally or physically.”

When the time came, Charles ultimately opted not to send his own children to the Scottish school.

Eton College

George, who may mark the second generation of royals to attend Eton, most recently celebrated Father’s Day with William, and flashed a giant smile while posing beside his siblings and their dad.

“Happy Father’s Day,” the family captioned a portrait taken by Millie Pilkington and  released on Twitter  last week.

Their youngest child, Louis, wrapped his arms around the heir to the British throne and flashed a cheeky smile at the camera.

William at Eton College

Meanwhile, George and Charlotte sat beside William, 40, and looked up at him adoringly.

The never-before-seen snap even offered a nod to the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The Prince and Princess of Wales posed for the photograph on a bench at the Windsor Estate that was gifted to the long-reigning monarch in 2016 on her 90th birthday.

Prince George visits Eton with William and Kate sparking rumours he'll go to dad's school

The young royal was seen with William and Kate visiting Eton College on Wednesday - Prince George already attends Lambrook School in Berkshire but will move on when he's 13

Prince George was seen at Eton on Wednesday alongside his doting parents

  • 11:54, 22 Jun 2023

Prince George has been spotted visiting Eton alongside parents William and Kate.

The nine-year-old has been schooled at Lambrook School in Berkshire since September last year, but a visit to the prestigious public school on Wednesday - which costs £46,000 a year in fees - has sparked talks on whether he will follow in his father's footsteps.

Prince William also attended the historic boys' school near Windsor as a child from 1995, after King Charles attended Scottish boarding school Gordonstoun - which he reportedly hated.

George, who will next month celebrate his 10th birthday, was seen accompanied by his doting parents at the college on Wednesday as the Prince and Princess of Wales chatted with staff.

Kate was seen talking to two employees of the famous and historic school while wearing an elegant aquamarine dress and ballet pumps, Hello! reports .

The family were standing near an archway, by a sign that reads: 'Porters' Lodge' and previous reports about the school explain that through the doors you'll find the school yard where a statue of the college's founder, King Henry VI, is displayed.

Prince William was the first senior royal to go to Eton, and was followed by brother Harry who was also educated there between 1998 and 2003.

Fees for Eton are a staggering £15,432 per term - according to the school's website - with a £400 fee just for registering, although scholarships are offered to pupils who pass an exam.

It is one of three public schools to have remained boys only, alongside Harrow and Radley, and having educated the likes of George Orwell and Eddie Redmayne.

It also counts 20 British Prime Ministers along its alumni, including Boris Johnson and David Cameron .

While Eton only takes boys from the age of 13, it's thought Kate and William could be getting George used to the school if he is also to study there.

George currently attends the same school as sister Princess Charlotte and brother Prince Louis , which is Lambrook School in Berkshire.

Previous to that, he was at St Thomas' in Battersea, London.

As well as strong academic standards, private mixed school Lambrook has 178 LAMDA lessons on offer each week along with 420 individual music lessons, from tap dancing to bagpipe playing.

The school also has a firm environmental focus, with each class in charge of its own veg patch, as well as lessons on ecology and the food industry.

Pupils planted 300 saplings last year to reduce their carbon footprint, meanwhile.

The school also houses rabbits which the children are welcome to pet at lunchtimes.

A previous post on their Instagram read: "The Lambrook Orchard is home to pigs, chickens, rabbits, bees and visiting lambs.

"As part of our sustainability curriculum, we teach our children about their natural environment; our hope is that caring for these animals will equip the children with practical skills, a greater understanding of animal welfare and the food industry, as well as providing plenty of entertainment and joy."

When the royal trio joined the school in September 2022, Headmster Jonathan Perry, said: "We are delighted that Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis will be joining us this coming September and very much look forward to welcoming the family, as well as all of our new pupils, to our school community."

Prince George reportedly got a taste of boarding school life as parents Kate Middleton and Prince William accompanied him on a prestigious visit to Eton College.

  • Prince George was reportedly spotted paying a visit to Eton College with his mum and dad.
  • The Wales youngster looks set to follow in the footsteps of Prince William and attend the school when he turns 13.
  • This royal news comes after Princess Charlotte was praised for her poise and bravery after a 'painful' balcony head bump with little brother Prince Louis .

Prince George was reportedly seen paying a visit to the prestigious Eton College, where Prince William once studied.

The nine-year-old future King who currently attends Lambrook school alongside his siblings Princess Charlotte , eight, and Prince Louis , five, is said to have been seen visiting Eton with his parents earlier this week.

While many families want to know what to look out for when buying a school uniform , royal fans are wondering what Prince George is doing at Eton.

The special outing comes after Prince George attended the King's birthday parade and Trooping the Colour, in which he was told on by his sister Charlotte for 'wiping his sneeze on his trousers' .

For the college visit Prince George reportedly wore a pair of navy shorts, short sleeved shirt and black shoes as he stood next to William who was wearing a blue jacket and navy trousers.

Meanwhile, mum Kate was seen in an aquamarine coloured dress with pointed ballerina flat shoes and appeared to speak to two Eton employees.

Prince George gets his first taste of boarding school life

According to Hello! The Wales trio were standing near an archway by a sign that reads 'Porters' Lodge' and previous reports about the school explain that through the doors is a school yard with a statue of the college's founder King Henry VI.

Speculation has gathered as to whether Prince George will follow in his father's footsteps and enrol in the college when he turns 13.

One fan tweeted, "Perhaps they bring him there to see the school himself so he'll know if he likes it."

A second fan claimed, "We know Eton wont reject George but I love how the Wale’s go through the correct process and protocols at the correct time."

Another fan added, "If George goes to Eton he could walk to his home. William used to walk to Windsor Castle every weekend to spend time with Queen Elizabeth ."

And one fan shared, "In case you’re wondering why they’re visiting Eton when Prince George is only 10 (or almost 10)..." and posted a snipped of entry requirements which reads, "Like Radley College, the third school to uphold the all-boys, all-boarding tradition, entry into Eton is very competitive. You must register your son three years ahead of his planned entry date...."

However, there is no official confirmation on this.

Prince William attended Eton in 1995 and became the first senior member of the royal family to go and brother Prince Harry joined him when he was old enough to attend.

A Big Decision About Prince George’s Future Has to Be Made By the End of This Month

The future king turns 10 in July.

Prince George riding in the carriage at Trooping the Colour

Prince George will be 10 years old next month—unbelievably—and, while his eventual future as heir to the British throne has been mapped out for him since before he was born, his educational future might have just been revealed.

Both his father Prince William and uncle Prince Harry studied at Eton College, not far from the Wales family home in Windsor. Multiple outlets report that George, along with his parents, visited William’s alma mater recently, signaling that the future king might enroll there as soon as he is able (Eton students are between the ages of 13 and 18, but to get into the exclusive boarding school, they must register by June 30 of the school year the boy turns 10—which is this week).

The all-boys boarding school is home to 1,350 pupils and costs $20,000 per term, People reports—and there are three terms per year. There is also a $500 registration fee. Currently, George attends Lambrook School with his younger siblings Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis ; they are day pupils, however, and return home to Adelaide Cottage each day. Lambrook educates children up to age 13.

When William himself enrolled at Eton in 1995, he became the first senior royal to attend the school, People reports. His father King Charles and grandfather Prince Philip both attended Gordonstoun in Scotland, but his mother Princess Diana ’s father and brother both attended Eton. Once enrolled, William and his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, started a new tradition: Sunday lunches together, as the school is nearby Windsor Castle .

“The prince takes his style from his royal grandmother, who intervened as the marriage of William’s parents dissolved in 1995,” royal historian Robert Lacey wrote. “The 13-year-old was in a fragile place—alone and just starting boarding at the elite Eton College across the river from Windsor. Concerned for her grandson’s emotional state, the Queen invited William up to join her when Eton boys went home for the weekend.”

Even though Charles and Diana had been separated since 1992 and by William’s enrollment in 1995 had grown increasingly at odds, “William’s arrival at Eton also represented a rare moment of parental unity,” wrote Richard Kay for The Daily Mail . “At the time, Charles and Diana were in the middle of a separation that had grown increasingly ugly and bitter, with each taking pot-shots at the other. But when it came to their sons’ schooling, they managed to find common ground.” (Though Philip thrived at Gordonstoun, Charles did not, and had no problem not sending his own sons there.)

Although Eton is a boarding school, George will similarly be able to visit his family in nearby Windsor. William, Kate, and George were spotted last week talking to two staff members at the school, Page Six reports.

William’s Eton experience still sticks with him, even 23 years after graduating in 2000, Kay wrote: “He forged a series of close friendships that endure to this day and, like his father’s more grueling experience in Scotland, it instilled in him a resilience that has served him well. Eton also gave William a taste for independence and privacy that is difficult to find for young royals, whose lives are so often under the spotlight.”

Kate Middleton Visits Alma Mater Marlborough College — Will Prince George Follow Mom's Path?

Prince George previously visited Eton College, where Prince William and Prince Harry both attended school

Kate Middleton reportedly paid a visit to her old school — and in the process, sparked speculation that Prince George  may also attend.

The Princess of Wales, 41, headed back to Marlborough College for a visit, according to The Daily Mail ’s Richard Eden . "Catherine was here the other day," a source told the reporter. "It’s been the talk of the school."

In addition to Princess Kate and her two siblings, Pippa and James Middleton, being alumni, Princess Eugenie also attended the boarding school.

The royal visit prompted speculation that Prince William and Princess Kate might be considering Marlborough College as the next school for their three children: Prince George , 10, Princess Charlotte , 8, and  Prince Louis , 5.

Earlier this year, Prince George was spotted with his parents on a visit to Eton College , where Prince William and  Prince Harry  attended as teenagers.

Although Eton College students are between the ages of 13 and 18, they must be registered before June 30 of the school year the boy turns 10. (Prince George marked his 10th birthday in July.) According to the school's  website , "After this, the only route of entry will be through scholarships or Sixth Form entry, which open in Year 8 (for Year 9 entry) and Year 11 (for Sixth Form entry)."

The school  costs  nearly $20,000 per term, and there are three terms per year. There is also a $500 registration fee.

Although Eton is located near the family's Adelaide Cottage home in Windsor, it is an all-boys school. Meanwhile, Marlborough College is co-ed, so Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis could all attend.

Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis currently attend  Lambrook School , a preparatory school that educates children up to  age 13 .

After previously being enrolled in London schools, the royal trio  started at the new school in September 2022  after the family relocated their home base to Windsor. It marked the first time that George, Charlotte and Louis all attended the same school together — Prince George and Princess Charlotte previously attended Thomas's Battersea, not far from the family's Kensington Palace home in London, while Prince Louis was enrolled in Willcocks Nursery School.

When Prince William enrolled at Eton College in 1995, he became the first senior royal to attend the school. While his father King Charles and grandfather Prince Philip both went to  Gordonstoun  in Scotland, Prince William did have family who were alumni — both Princess Diana's brother and father attended Eton.

Some of Queen Elizabeth's first cousins — including the Duke of Kent, the Duke of Gloucester and Prince Michael of Kent — also attended Eton.

Following the divorce of his parents,  Queen Elizabeth  started a new tradition:  Sunday lunches with her grandson .

"The prince takes his style from his royal grandmother, who intervened as the marriage of William's parents dissolved in 1995," Robert Lacey, a veteran royal historian and author of the best-selling book  Battle of the Brothers , previously wrote for PEOPLE. "The 13-year-old was in a fragile place — alone and just starting boarding at the elite Eton College across the river from Windsor. Concerned for her grandson's emotional state, the Queen invited William up to join her when Eton boys went home for the weekend."

Prince William and Princess Kate are currently keeping their royal duties to a minimum while their children are on a school break .  Lambrook School  students began their half-term break after classes wrapped on Friday, and they'll return to the classroom on Oct. 30.

The couple's decision to focus on their family during school breaks is just one example of how they're raising their children differently than previous generations of royals.

"Those children look pretty happy with life," a palace insider previously told PEOPLE. "A lot of it is the  stabilizing normality Kate brings  — and that's how she grew up. William absolutely loves it."

Despite their royal roles — especially George, who is second in the line of succession to the throne behind his father and will someday become monarch — Kate ensures that her kids' childhoods are as normal as possible.

"Coming from a different background, she appreciates the importance of having family time," a source close to the royal household previously told PEOPLE. "She wasn't brought up in that aristocratic setting where you see the children for a short time each day."

The palace recently announced that Princess Kate won't join Prince William on his upcoming trip to Singapore so she can help Prince George with his school exams.

In a clip shared on  TikTok  by Matt Wilkinson of  The Sun , Kate told students, “George is just at the beginning of being tested. He says, ‘Mummy, I keep getting tested all the time.’ But when it gets to A-levels you feel like you're on it.”

Prince George is already preparing for Eton and will be given 'all the help he needs'

It's 'quite difficult' and 'competitive' according to one royal expert

Prince George is preparing for Eton

It may seem like only yesterday that Prince William and Kate Middleton were standing on the steps of St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, showing the newborn Prince George to the world - but their eldest son is now ten years old, and will soon be moving on from his classmates.

The young royal currently attends Lambrook School in Bracknell, Berkshire, alongside his younger sister Princess Charlotte , 8, and younger brother Prince Louis, 5. The Prince and Princess of Wales' children moved from St Thomas' Battersea last year when the family relocated from their London home, 1A Kensington Palace , to the Grade II listed building, Adelaide Cottage in Windsor.

Although Prince George only recently celebrated his tenth birthday, he will already be preparing for his move from Lambrook School according to one royal expert.

According to historian and author Tessa Dunlop - whose books include Elizabeth and Philip: A Story of Young Love, Marriage and Monarchy - George is already working towards his entrance exams for the prestigious boarding school, Eton College.

While he is enrolled at Lambrook until he is 13 years old (or the equivalent of completing Year 8), he is being 'given all the help he needs' according to the royal expert as preparations being early for entrance into the elite educational institution.

Dunlop told OK! magazine: "Schools such as Lambrook are hothouses - they're feeder schools for the big public schools... the biggest of the lot being Eton which we already know George has looked around.

"The grading or the testing is very competitive to get into Eton, it's one of the most sought-after schools in the world, and it begins two years early. It's like a sub-selection process.

"It's also quite difficult if you aren't royal. It's very competitive, but I'm sure George will get in."

Both Prince William and Prince Harry attended Eton College when they turned 13, so it is likely that George will follow in his father's footsteps. The annual schooling fees come to around £46,296.

Dunlop added that George 'won't need' additional tuition to pass the Eton exams as it will be expected that his current school, Lambrook, is providing enough support. However, she does say that 'he'll be given all the help he needs'.

It has previously been suggested that William and Kate 'will never force' George to attend boarding school , but they will instead consider how their eldest son wants to continue his education.

The Prince of Wales and George.

Kate doesn’t want Prince George to go to Eton – and for once I agree with her

Zoe Williams

I was miserable at my all-girls’ school. According to rumour, so was the Princess of Wales. No wonder she wants to keep her son out of another single-sex establishment

T he Prince and Princess of Wales are at an unusual impasse about their son George’s secondary school, according to rumours. A regular, incredibly rich couple might fight about whether or not to send their kid to boarding school because it means that the child will have to live somewhere else, and some parents don’t like that. They might, in an alternative universe where one of them was politically engaged, have had a fight about whether or not to send George to private school at all.

In fact, Kate’s problem with Eton college, which is William’s choice, is that it’s single-sex ; she got horribly bullied at school, which – you’ll have to just surrender to the gossip mill, here, a causal link hypothesised by an anonymous insider – was because it was an all-girls’ school.

This is an entirely new sensation to me, agreeing 100% with Kate. I went to an all-girls’ private school in London in the 80s. It comes up every now and then on social media, the smoking gun of the hypocritical lefty, that this was a very expensive education. My defence is always that, whatever the age is of political responsibility, it’s definitely not 11; come at me when I send my own kids to private school, which I wouldn’t. But the real reason I have no trace of shame about it is that I hated it so much, and came out of it so completely horrible, and it took so many years to rewire some basic trust in humanity, that I just cannot conceive of it as a privilege.

The school was an intensely hierarchical place, across a large number of metrics: beauty, wealth, intelligence, breeding, social capital, the full Lacanian sweep, plus weird things such as whether you had any brothers. Whatever hand you had been dealt, there would always be some pile you were at the bottom of, so everyone felt awful about themselves, all the time. I didn’t realise, until years later, that even the girls who looked as if they had everything, a thigh gap, a politician dad and a sports car, were mired in self-hate because they couldn’t do physics. It may have changed now, of course.

I don’t think what I’m describing is just general adolescent funk. My life is lousy with teenagers now, and they don’t have the catastrophising vibe that they’re one wrong move away from social oblivion. As little as I can explain it, the genders do seem to have a civilising effect on one another. Do boys distract girls from their elaborate shun operations by, I don’t know, throwing things? Do girls shame boys with eye-rolling into throwing fewer things? I wouldn’t want to gender-essentialise it, God knows. I only know that they are not meant to be siloed.

Which isn’t to say that nothing good came of it – my experience of an all-girls’ school, followed by twice as long as a trustee of a prison charity, informed a lot of my politics, including why I became a transgender ally. Before I had thought seriously about trans rights, and the immeasurable preciousness of any human being with the courage to live their most meaningful and truthful life, I thought: “Wait, are you saying all-female spaces are kinder? Purer? Inherently less violent? More supportive? Are you joking? Are you out of your mind?”

Plus, I’ve seen a lot of graphs about unequal societies and how even the top decile is less happy than it could be. I believe that, because what kind of a fool doesn’t believe a graph, but I also know it because I’ve seen it. There is nothing on earth more miserable than a bunch of rich people, competing on minuscule distinctions, without even a variety of the sexes to take their minds off it.

If I were George’s parents, I’d send him to the local Windsor comprehensive: what is private school for, anyway, except to buy your kid into a social stratum that the prince is already at the top of? That being impossible, then yes: anywhere but somewhere single-sex.

AN Eton schoolboy has died after collapsing on field in front of teammates during a match.

Raphaël Pryor, 17, died on Saturday afternoon during a ‘Field Game’ at the Berkshire college.

Eton College schoolboy Raphaël Pryor tragically died at the weekend

His parents Michael Pryor and Sabine Vandenbroucke revealed the last words Raphaël would have heard were "well played Raphy".

Onlookers rushed to the lad’s aide and performed CPR after he collapsed during a game.

His dad, who was playing a fixture on a neighbouring pitch, was called over as he fell.

Despite the best efforts of the medical services the teen was tragically declared dead.

"As the many wonderful messages we have received show, Raphaël was hitting his stride as adulthood approached, a much-loved and respected leader on the sporting field and within the community of his boys’ house.

“He brought a fast-growing emotional intelligence to everything he did. He even surprised us by excelling in a leading role in a play last Autumn.

“He was an excellent fisherman and skier, adored by those who taught him. He also loved History. He was to spend the winter as a ski instructor and hoped to read French and History at university, connecting his roots with his passion.

“It is desperate to be so cruelly deprived of what we hoped would be a wonderful future, but we are so grateful to have participated in a life full of love and happiness, friendship, and memories that will never be forgotten.

"Raphaël made us better people and we will miss him so.”

'EVERYONE IS SHATTERED'

Counsellors have been drafted in to help pals come to terms with the devastating loss of “outstanding” Raphaël.

Saturday saw nine school teams take on Old Boys' teams in their unique Field Game – a cross between football and rugby.

A source told The Sun: “Raphaël was loved and adored by everyone that knew him. Everyone is shattered at what has happened.

“The tragedy unfolded with Raphaël’s beloved father on the adjacent pitch. We are all numb and sending love to his family.”

Additional specialist support is being provided for pupils and staff by on-site counsellors at Eton.

Eton headmaster Simon Henderson told The Sun: “Raphaël was an outstanding young man who lived with joy in his heart, sharing it widely and powerfully. He had the brightest of futures ahead of him.

“In his life at Eton Raphaël brought so much to his friends and to those who taught and cared for him, including to those who played with and against him on the games field, where he excelled as one of the House Captains of Games.

“The whole Eton community is deeply saddened and shocked by this news. As we mourn his tragic death, our hearts go out to Raphaël’s parents, his family and his friends.”

Raphaël’s House Master, Joe Dangerfield, added: “He lived with joy in his heart, sharing it widely and powerfully.”

The popular teen was Eton’s House Captain of Games and the photo of him released by his family was taken two days before he died after he had led his team to victory in a major school competition.

Twenty British Prime Ministers have attended Eton, including David Cameron , Boris Johnson and Harold Macmillan.

The Royal Family have also sent members to the prestigious school, including both Prince William and Prince Harry .

The Field Game dates back to around 1815. It is played on a football pitch with 11 players per team but the ball is smaller and they use small, square net-less goals.

Prince George tours prestigious Eton College with William & Kate

By MATT WILKINSON

PRINCE George was shown around prestigious Eton College in June last year — suggesting he is set to follow in his father’s footsteps.

The  future King , nine, was joined by dad  William  — a former pupil with brother  Harry  — and mum  Kate  as he explored the £45,000-a-year boys-only school.

Dressed smartly in shorts, he was spotted with his parents as they walked beside the Porters’ Lodge at the college.

If he wishes to go to  Eton , where pupils start aged 13, they must act fast.

Parents of prospective pupils have to register an interest three years in advance as the school is so sought-after and George will be ten next month.

At present, he goes to Lambrook in Ascot,  Berks , with sister  Charlotte , eight, and brother  Louis , five.

William and Kate, both 41, moved from Kensington Palace to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor last summer so the children would be nearer the school.

Windsor Castle  is only a short walk from Eton, which was founded in 1440 by King Henry VI.

As pupils, Princes William and  Harry , now 38, would often walk back to the castle for tea with the  late Queen .

King Charles , 74, did not go to Eton and was sent to Gordonstoun in Moray, Scotland which he disliked and  referred to as “Colditz in kilts” .

Other famous former old Etonians have included  Boris Johnson , 59, and fellow former PM  David Cameron , 56. Actors  Eddie Redmayne , 41, and  Tom Hiddleston , 42, and  James Bond  author Ian Fleming also went there.

There have been rumours the Wales’s were also considering Kate’s former school, Marlborough College,  Wilts , for their children’s education.

Who Are Prince William's Closest Friends? A Look At His Inner Circle

P rince William and his spouse, Kate Middleton have been the subject of several rumors and conspiracy theories, because of Kate's absence from royal responsibilities. During a visit to northern England on Tuesday, Prince William stated that his wife Kate Middleton "needs to be sat here" amid the 'Kate Gate' controversy engulfing the British Royal Family, as per India TV's report.

However, all through the backlash, Prince William has on his side a group of strong friends that he can count upon when the going gets tough. The group members mostly belong to Eton College and St. Andrews University where William spent most of his formative years, and also met his then wife to-be, Kate Middleton .

His friends have supported him through nearly every significant life event, including his engagement to Kate, their 2011 royal wedding, and of course the arrival of his three children. Some of them have even been chosen to serve as godparents, and William has also served as the godfather to their offspring.

What to know about the crisis of violence, politics and hunger engulfing Haiti

A woman carrying two bags of rice walks past burning tires

A long-simmering crisis over Haiti’s ability to govern itself, particularly after a series of natural disasters and an increasingly dire humanitarian emergency, has come to a head in the Caribbean nation, as its de facto president remains stranded in Puerto Rico and its people starve and live in fear of rampant violence.

The chaos engulfing the country has been bubbling for more than a year, only for it to spill over on the global stage on Monday night, as Haiti’s unpopular prime minister, Ariel Henry, agreed to resign once a transitional government is brokered by other Caribbean nations and parties, including the U.S.

But the very idea of a transitional government brokered not by Haitians but by outsiders is one of the main reasons Haiti, a nation of 11 million, is on the brink, according to humanitarian workers and residents who have called for Haitian-led solutions.

“What we’re seeing in Haiti has been building since the 2010 earthquake,” said Greg Beckett, an associate professor of anthropology at Western University in Canada.

What is happening in Haiti and why?

In the power vacuum that followed the assassination of democratically elected President Jovenel Moïse in 2021, Henry, who was prime minister under Moïse, assumed power, with the support of several nations, including the U.S.

When Haiti failed to hold elections multiple times — Henry said it was due to logistical problems or violence — protests rang out against him. By the time Henry announced last year that elections would be postponed again, to 2025, armed groups that were already active in Port-au-Prince, the capital, dialed up the violence.

Even before Moïse’s assassination, these militias and armed groups existed alongside politicians who used them to do their bidding, including everything from intimidating the opposition to collecting votes . With the dwindling of the country’s elected officials, though, many of these rebel forces have engaged in excessively violent acts, and have taken control of at least 80% of the capital, according to a United Nations estimate.

Those groups, which include paramilitary and former police officers who pose as community leaders, have been responsible for the increase in killings, kidnappings and rapes since Moïse’s death, according to the Uppsala Conflict Data Program at Uppsala University in Sweden. According to a report from the U.N . released in January, more than 8,400 people were killed, injured or kidnapped in 2023, an increase of 122% increase from 2022.

“January and February have been the most violent months in the recent crisis, with thousands of people killed, or injured, or raped,” Beckett said.

Armed groups who had been calling for Henry’s resignation have already attacked airports, police stations, sea ports, the Central Bank and the country’s national soccer stadium. The situation reached critical mass earlier this month when the country’s two main prisons were raided , leading to the escape of about 4,000 prisoners. The beleaguered government called a 72-hour state of emergency, including a night-time curfew — but its authority had evaporated by then.

Aside from human-made catastrophes, Haiti still has not fully recovered from the devastating earthquake in 2010 that killed about 220,000 people and left 1.5 million homeless, many of them living in poorly built and exposed housing. More earthquakes, hurricanes and floods have followed, exacerbating efforts to rebuild infrastructure and a sense of national unity.

Since the earthquake, “there have been groups in Haiti trying to control that reconstruction process and the funding, the billions of dollars coming into the country to rebuild it,” said Beckett, who specializes in the Caribbean, particularly Haiti.

Beckett said that control initially came from politicians and subsequently from armed groups supported by those politicians. Political “parties that controlled the government used the government for corruption to steal that money. We’re seeing the fallout from that.”

Haiti Experiences Surge Of Gang Violence

Many armed groups have formed in recent years claiming to be community groups carrying out essential work in underprivileged neighborhoods, but they have instead been accused of violence, even murder . One of the two main groups, G-9, is led by a former elite police officer, Jimmy Chérizier — also known as “Barbecue” — who has become the public face of the unrest and claimed credit for various attacks on public institutions. He has openly called for Henry to step down and called his campaign an “armed revolution.”

But caught in the crossfire are the residents of Haiti. In just one week, 15,000 people have been displaced from Port-au-Prince, according to a U.N. estimate. But people have been trying to flee the capital for well over a year, with one woman telling NBC News that she is currently hiding in a church with her three children and another family with eight children. The U.N. said about 160,000 people have left Port-au-Prince because of the swell of violence in the last several months.

Deep poverty and famine are also a serious danger. Gangs have cut off access to the country’s largest port, Autorité Portuaire Nationale, and food could soon become scarce.

Haiti's uncertain future

A new transitional government may dismay the Haitians and their supporters who call for Haitian-led solutions to the crisis.

But the creation of such a government would come after years of democratic disruption and the crumbling of Haiti’s political leadership. The country hasn’t held an election in eight years.

Haitian advocates and scholars like Jemima Pierre, a professor at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, say foreign intervention, including from the U.S., is partially to blame for Haiti’s turmoil. The U.S. has routinely sent thousands of troops to Haiti , intervened in its government and supported unpopular leaders like Henry.

“What you have over the last 20 years is the consistent dismantling of the Haitian state,” Pierre said. “What intervention means for Haiti, what it has always meant, is death and destruction.”

In fact, the country’s situation was so dire that Henry was forced to travel abroad in the hope of securing a U.N. peacekeeping deal. He went to Kenya, which agreed to send 1,000 troops to coordinate an East African and U.N.-backed alliance to help restore order in Haiti, but the plan is now on hold . Kenya agreed last October to send a U.N.-sanctioned security force to Haiti, but Kenya’s courts decided it was unconstitutional. The result has been Haiti fending for itself.

“A force like Kenya, they don’t speak Kreyòl, they don’t speak French,” Pierre said. “The Kenyan police are known for human rights abuses . So what does it tell us as Haitians that the only thing that you see that we deserve are not schools, not reparations for the cholera the U.N. brought , but more military with the mandate to use all kinds of force on our population? That is unacceptable.”

Henry was forced to announce his planned resignation from Puerto Rico, as threats of violence — and armed groups taking over the airports — have prevented him from returning to his country.

Now that Henry is to stand down, it is far from clear what the armed groups will do or demand next, aside from the right to govern.

“It’s the Haitian people who know what they’re going through. It’s the Haitian people who are going to take destiny into their own hands. Haitian people will choose who will govern them,” Chérizier said recently, according to The Associated Press .

Haitians and their supporters have put forth their own solutions over the years, holding that foreign intervention routinely ignores the voices and desires of Haitians.

In 2021, both Haitian and non-Haitian church leaders, women’s rights groups, lawyers, humanitarian workers, the Voodoo Sector and more created the Commission to Search for a Haitian Solution to the Crisis . The commission has proposed the “ Montana Accord ,” outlining a two-year interim government with oversight committees tasked with restoring order, eradicating corruption and establishing fair elections.
