Wondering where to camp near Oktoberfest?
If it’s ways to do Oktoberfest on a budget you’re looking for, then camping is hands down the most cost-effective option.
It may not sound like a very glamorous way to do Oktoberfest (because it isn’t ) but it IS extremely cheap, and a great way to ensure you have some extra pocket money for beers, food, and rides.
Wondering what the options are for camping near Oktoberfest? Here is a rundown.
Stoke Travel ‘Stoketoberfest’
Lochhausener Straße 59, 81247 Munich, Germany
Stoke Travel offers camping packages just outside of Munich’s city center that includes tent accommodation, breakfast/dinner and hardcore parties for 65 euros a night.
If you click here, I’ll even set you up with free unlimited beer and sangria! This is by far the best deal you would get for Oktoberfest. If you’re interested, check here for availability.
NOTE: This is very much a budget backpacker option – you’ll be sleeping in tents, it might be cold, it won’t be the Ritz by any means, so if you’re a mild germaphobe, hate crowds, loud noises, etc. this won’t be for you… but if you love a good party and want a very cheap way to enjoy Oktoberfest, this is it. Click here to learn more!
NOTE: They also have a glamping site at 49 Zentralländstraße, 81379 if you are looking for something more ‘upscale’. Full details on their website!
ESN Oktoberfest Campsite
46 Schichtlstraße, 81929 Munich, Germany
Another budget campsite in Munich meant for Oktoberfest is the ESN Oktoberfest Campsite, which was designed with study abroad students in mind.
Here, you’ll find 1-2 person tents which all include a sleeping bag, and an inflatable mattress. There’s also a free daily continental breakfast, WiFi and an on-site bar/’restaurant’.
Click here to check reviews and availability
In den Kirschen 30, Moosach, 80992 Munich, Germany
One of the cheapest options for ‘campsites’ near Oktoberfest is The Tent, so named for the giant 500 m² tent on its grounds that houses over 150 bunk beds.
The pro of this compared to the options above is you get to sleep in a real bed, with space to walk around.
The con (of course) is… very little privacy, and hundreds of ‘roommates’.
For those seeking additional privacy, they appear to have some caravans to rent as well (although the availability is fast becoming sparse!)
Other budget-Friendly Accommodation for Oktoberfest
Okay, maybe we’re just old now, but we want to conclude this post with a little disclaimer about booking a camping site for Oktoberfest.
Camping for Oktoberfest is not for the faint of heart. We’ve heard horror stories about how cold it gets, and how conditions when you get hundreds of drunk tourists together on one campsite can be… a little grim.
So, just in case you have the luxury of planning ahead, we want you to know that if you plan very far in advance, you can probably find hotels or hostels that cost about the same as a last-minute tent where you sleep on the ground. Sure, they might not be the nicest accommodation, but they’re at least shielded from the elements.
Yes, to reiterate: campsite bookings for Oktoberfest can often be so overpriced that actual hostels and hotels are cheaper (when booked in advance).
So, if we were you, we’d thoroughly look through other options first before booking a campsite.
If you’ve read our Best Neighbourhoods to Stay in for Oktoberfest article, you’ll know that we recommend staying somewhere along the U3/U6 line, or U4/U5 line. Staying anywhere along these lines will put you at an easy transitable distance to the Oktoberfest grounds. The U-Bahn system in Munich is efficient and quick, and (to us) more convenient than buses, which is what most campsites rely on.
So, to help you evaluate your other options, below you’ll find some tables summarizing different accommodation.
Here are some of the best hostels in Munich for Oktoberfest:

Oktoberfest is the world’s biggest beer festival, folk festival and the original and best celebration of Bavarian culture. It’s where beer lovers from all over the world – around seven million of them – will congregate for a beer-filled bender of world-beating proportions. A stein-session that goes for three full weekends and all the weekdays between them. But what’s it all about? And where should you stay for Oktoberfest (obviously with us).
What is Oktoberfest?
Starting when Prince Ludwig married Princess Therese in 1810, Oktoberfest has since evolved into a celebration of Bavarian, Alpine and German culture, with huge glasses of beer, oompah bands, hearty German beer drinking food and dancing on tables with people from all over the world as the centrepieces.
Where is Oktoberfest?
In a continuing nod to the event’s royal wedding traditions, Oktoberfest is held in Munich city central, in the Theresienwiese (Therese’s meadow) showgrounds a short walk, and even shorter stumble, from downtown Munich. The Oktoberfest celebrations are also very easily connected to the very reliable and cheap public transport network from Munich Central Camping.
When is Oktoberfest?
Despite the name, Oktoberfest mostly takes place in September, having been moved by the organisers to take advantage of the better late-September weather. Oktoberfest always has to finish on the first Sunday after German Reunification Day (October 3rd) and this year the dates are from the 20th of September until the 5th of October. Munich Central Camping is open all year-round so you can stay as long as you want before, during and after the event.
Where should I stay for Oktoberfest?
As seven million beer lovers descend on Munich for the event each year you can imagine that hotels and even hostels get super expensive. We recommend that you stay with us, in our basic but comfortable enough places to pass out, saving you much needed money for the beer halls. Or, if you’re looking for a more-inclusive Oktoberfest package you can check out our buddies over at Stoke Travel (be warned, they love to party so it’s not for the faint-hearted).

After you check in at the campsite your trip leaders will organize groups to the festival* or into the city center to explore Munich. If you want to look like a local in the beer tents, pick up a traditional dirndl or lederhosen at the campsite or your trip leaders can recommend where to buy them in town.
Friday is the optional famous Munich Bike Tour that will bring to the main sights in downtown Munich, through the expansive English Gardens, and make a pit stop for sausage and steins! We suggest that you book this ahead of time on the Bus2alps website under Munich activities, as spots are limited.
Other places to see while in Munich include the Dachau Concentration Camp, Deutsches Museum, Munich Zoo, Olympic Park, and the BMW Museum. Your Bus2alps Trip Leader can tell you how to navigate Munich and visit each site.
The night is yours to explore! Munich has a diverse nightlife it is worth checking out the bars and night clubs after the festival closes. The Stoketoberfest campsite always has a great afterhours festival atmosphere and party.
*For the September 19th weekend, the festival begins on Saturday, September 21st at noon when the kegs are tapped.
Day 2 Saturday - Explore Oktoberfest
Saturday is the busiest day of Oktoberfest. Your trip leaders will organize a departure time to head into the festival as early as 6:30am. Entry to the tents are first come, first serve so we recommend arriving at the festival grounds early in the morning. At 9:00am, the doors open and the first beers of the day are served,* You part of the largest beer festival in the world. Spend the day partying with people from all over the world and singing the traditional songs of Bavaria. If you can’t get into one of the beer tents right away, grab a spot in the outside beer garden until they start allowing more people to enter the tent.
If you want to explore other areas of Munich we recommend going to the Dachau Concentration Camp, Deutsches Museum, BMW Museum, Olympic Park, and Munich Zoo.
Day 3 Sunday - Departure Day
Sunday is yours to explore Munich, or to head back for one more day of partying at the Theresienwiese before departure. Sunday at the festival is more subdued and entrance into the beer tents at Oktoberfest is often easier.
Alternatively there is enough time if you wake up early to check out any of Munich’s great museums.
Your Bus2alps Trip Leaders will be organizing times early on Sunday morning to Dachau Concentration Camp. Entrance to Dachau is free as it is now a memorial site for those who lost their lives at the camp which was the first concentration camp in Germany.
You will be able to check out from the campsite at anytime on Sunday. Check with your Trip Leader for detailed directions on how to reach the airport or the main train station.

Stoke Travel Oktoberfest Camping or Glamping
Oktoberfest is the biggest and best traditional beer festival in the world. You’ll spend your time in the beer halls downing steins, singing on table tops and befriending old German men! We refer to our legendary Stoke campsite as Stoketoberfest, the biggest party outside of the halls. When the beer wenches have packed up their steins for the day, our campsite is rearing to go, with gallons of free-flowing beer and sangria, DJ’s, live bands, and carnivalesque entertainment, for upwards of 2500 international guests nightly.
For those of you who still want to party but want a little more comfort! Stoke Travel’s Festival Glamping Palaces, outdoor sleeping arrangements that lives on the luxurious side, comfortable camping, terrific tents! Stoke Travel’s Glamping options won’t break the bank, and it definitely won’t alienate you from your fellow (less sophisticated) Stokies, but they will make you just that little more comfortable, with your large tent filled with lots of little goodies that you can stand up and stretch in!

5 reasons why you have to give glamping a go.
Posted by Stoke Media Team 7 years ago | May 9, 2017
This year Stoke Travel is launching Glamping, which is camping but totally like so glamorous, babes. There’s nothing wrong with our camps — they’re fine, they’re fantastic — but we’ve found that sometimes Stoke Travellers have a little spare change rattling around in their pockets and they want to spend it on some creature comforts. If there’s one thing that Stoke Travel does well it’s attract creatures to our camps and now we’re going to make you even comfortable. Giddy UP!
More comfortable bedding when Glamping at Pamplona
The Running Of The Bulls is taxing on the body. The run itself is a test of athleticism and mental stability, and the days after it are long boozy danceathons in busy Spanish streets. You’re tired, both physically and emotionally and you’re one day into a three-day trip. You want to rest your weary bones before you again offer them up to the half-tonne horned running machines that make this party infamous. Stoke’s air mattresses are comfortable, and the sleeping bags most definitely do the job, but the raised glamping beds with their fitted sheets and pillows are on another level and will really aid the post-bull-run/pre-bull-run recovery process, making you less likely to be steamrolled by beasts the next time you don the whites and take to the streets.
2. Glamping in Munich is warmer than not Glamping
Oktoberfest actually mostly takes part in September, as the Germans knew that sliding the festival forward from its originally later date would take advantage of the warmer weather. That said, Munich is a tempestuous mistress at this time of the year, and there’s always a day when the temperature shifts from too-hot to bloody-cold. Now this doesn’t really matter at the time, as we’re generally full to the top with Bavarian beer and that takes your mind off the chill, but Oktoberfest is at the end of the summer, and you’re exhausted and have probably earned a sleep in, and we all know that sleep ins are easier when you’re snug and warm, and so in addition to the aforementioned comfortable bedding, our Oktoberfest Glamping also comes with an electric heater to really bring your tent’s temperature up to a reasonable level.
3. It’s cooler Glamping at La Tomatina
It’s 2pm and it’s already been a long day of dodging tomatoes and making out with sexy Spaniards. Your belly is full of tomato-juice shrapnel and sangria, and you’ve got a big night ahead of you at the official La Tomatina after party. It’s time for a siesta, but by jove it’s too fucking hot. It’s Valencia, by the end of summer, and it’s warm. Your fellow Stokies are laying around on the grass, under trees, for while their tents are lovely and cool by night, the middle of the day resembles a pottery kiln in the middle of the Sahara. The Glamping, however, comes with an electric fan, and so you retreat back to your palace and let the artificial breeze run over your red-stained body.
4. Surf camp Glamping gives you more space
Crawling in and out of a tent is par for the surf camping course, but when it comes to getting decked out in your wetsuit, the low ceilings might cramp your style and every other part of your body. Glamping allows all but the very tall to pretty much stand up, meaning that you don’t need to contort into all kinds of shapes just to get your rubber on. There’s also a mirror inside so you can see just how you’d look as a superhero before you go and make a complete dork of yourself getting each and every orifice filled with sand and seawater.
5. And that works just fine for hook ups
All of it, together, will help your pick-up game. The mirror and the space to change like a French duke, the warmth or coolness you can offer any temporary roommates, the comfort of the beds, the aesthetic appeal of Glamping with all the fairy lights and the status that comes with having a Stoke Travel butler at your beck and call 24-hours a day. The electricity with which you can charge your phone, and the WiFi you can use to get on Tinder. Basically, if you can’t hook up while Glamping, either with someone you’ve known for a long time, or a complete stranger, then maybe you’ve got to rethink how you hook up. Just saying.
Like we said, there’s nothing wrong with Stoke Travel’s general camping options — in fact we’re by far the best in the business for both inclusions and price — but sometimes you want to spoil yourself and not miss out on the fun of the Stoke Travel camp experience, and for that Glamping is your best option. Why don’t you go over here and check out prices, etc, and get yourself one of Stoke Travel’s more glamorous camping experiences.
