Ship Inn Stanley took out silver in the 4-4.5 Star Deluxe Accommodation category.

"(The) family-run boutique hotel was being judged alongside 300-room mega hotels in inner-Sydney and Melbourne, and they very nearly won the category," according to Tourism Industry Council Tasmania CEO, Luke Martin.

In the EcoTourism category, Tasmanian Walking Company took out silver for its Cradle Mountain, Bay of Fires, and Tasman Peninsula walks.

In the Tour and Transport Operators category, Air Adventure Golf took out bronze.

"Air Adventure Golf is a start-up tour business ferrying golfers to our iconic courses on King Island and Barnbougle," Mr Martin said.

The big winner across the state was wukalina Walk, which one gold in the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Island Tourism Experience category.

wukalina Walk's success in winning the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Island Tourism Experience category was one of Tasmania's greatest ever tourism stories, according to Mr Martin.

"For many years, Tasmania was always the one State who didn't have an entrant in these awards in the Aboriginal tourism category," he said.

"To see wukalina emerge over the past few years as such an outstanding palawa tourism enterprise, and the significance tonight in having reached the very pinnacle of Australian tourism excellence, now sits comfortably alongside the opening of MONA and Pumphouse Point, as one of our industry's finest moments of the past decade.

"It is testament to the vision of elders like Uncle Clyde Mansell and Graeme Gardener, and many others, who were determined to create an outstanding community-owned cultural tourism experience, along with the dedication of the wukalina team who deliver the three day-two-night walking tour at larapuna (Bay of Fires)."

Coal River Farm (gold), Bangor Vineyard Shed (gold), Big 4 St Helens Holiday Park (silver), Vila Talia (bronze), Peppers Silo Hotel (bronze), and Mures Tasmania (bronze) also took out awards in their respective categories.

Launceston tourism operators Peppers Silo Hotel and McDermott's Coaches won in the categories of Best Business Event Venue and Best Major Tour & Transport Operator, respectively.

And on the north-west coast, the Ship Inn in Stanley won Best Deluxe Accommodation, and The Cove in Devonport won Most Unique Accommodation.

IN OTHER NEWS: Fear housing authority will corporatise social housing delivery

Luke Martin, chief executive officer of the Tourism Industry Council Tasmania, said he was "thrilled" by the diversity of this year's winners.

"It takes enormous courage, vision and work to create amazing tourism ventures, particularly in regional areas," Mr Martin said.

"The Ship Inn, The Cove, Villa Talia and The Roundhouses, are small Tasmanian-owned and operated accommodation businesses in regional parts of the state that have battled through COVID, and are now coming out the other side with resilient and respected businesses," he said.

MORE NEWS: Raising workforce issues at roundtable

Other northern winners included the City of Launceston Visitor Information Centre in the category of Visitor Information Services; BIG4 St Helens Holiday Park in St Helens for the Best Caravan and Holiday Park category; and Wukalina Walk in the north-east in the category of Best Aboriginal & Torres Strait Island Tourism Experience.

In the south, The Roundhouses - a secluded, nature-based accommodation offering in Cygnet, took out the award for Tasmania's Best New Tourism Business in 2022.

IN OTHER NEWS: Hardware store owner helps out when production crews roll into town

Boutique cheese and chocolate maker Coal River Farm won the award for Excellence in Food Tourism as well as the award for Tourism Retail and Hire Services.

One unusual winner was Victoria-based Air Adventure Golf, which runs tours for mainlanders visiting the island state. It won the Tour and Transport award.

BIG4 St Helens Holiday Park won the Caravan and Holiday Parks award.

Premier of tasmania, 13 september 2022 jeremy rockliff, premier, tassie towns shine at australia’s top tourism awards.

Tasmania’s stellar reputation for high-quality tourism experiences has been enhanced once again at Australia’s Top Tourism Awards 2022.

In a fantastic outcome, Strahan on the stunning West Coast was named the Gold winner of the Tiny Tourism Town category, while Sheffield was named Silver winner of the Small Tourism Town category.

There is no doubt our beautiful State is home to many incredible tourism towns, each offering uniquely Tasmanian experiences, and this is more appropriate recognition for these towns and for the industry in general, and the world-class offerings they bring.

And despite the impacts of the pandemic, the industry has bounced back strongly, with tourists flocking back and spending record amounts in our State - supporting local jobs, businesses and the broader community.

Congratulations to the Strahan and Sheffield communities and particularly those working in local businesses for these achievements, which will shine an even brighter light on Tasmanian tourism and what we have to offer.
