Disneyland Paris, which was once known as EuroDisney, is Disney’s Europe theme park which has two parks and a downtown/shopping and entertainment area.

If you’re wondering how to get to Disneyland Paris from London, chances are your main trip is to the UK and you’re adding on a journey to Disneyland Paris as an extra.

As someone who has been to both Disney World and Disneyland Paris, I highly recommend checking out Disneyland Paris at Christmas for a very magical experience.

It’s different than either of the US parks, but Disneyland Park, its “Magic Kingdom” is very beautiful and worth a visit.

One thing to note is that Disneyland Paris isn’t actually in Paris – it’s outside of it.

This is important when it comes down to figuring out the best way to get to Disneyland Paris from London.

Disneyland Paris castle

Expert tip for all types of public transportation within Europe: the best way to figure out your best options is to click here to use Omio (free), where it’ll show you the prices, options (including buses, trains, taxis, ferries, and even flights) and help you compare the cheapest and fastest routes.

Distance from London to Disneyland Paris

Disneyland Paris is just over 300 miles away from London.

It’s far enough away that it doesn’t usually make sense to take a day trip to Disneyland Paris from London, but if you’re really dedicated, it’s possible!

How to Get to Disneyland Paris from London by Public Transportation

If you’re a visitor to Europe or a study abroad student in Europe , chances are you’ll be wanting to take public transportation from London to Disneyland Paris.

You won’t want to have to deal with driving in two different countries with two different road rules and requirements for driving as a foreigner, and it’s much faster to go by public transportation.

However, if you do want to know how to drive from London to Disneyland Paris, that information is at the bottom of the article.

How to Get to Disneyland Paris by Train

The most popular way for people to get from London to Disneyland Paris is by train.

You’ve got a few options in how you can make this happen depending on your budget, travel experience, and the availability.

How to get to London to Disneyland Paris by train on a map

Direct Train from London to Disneyland Paris

There is a direct train that leaves London St. Pancras Station and will take you all the way to Disneyland Paris, the station being Marne-le-Vallee (Chessy) or Parc Disneyland.

This is run by Eurostar during the summer and kid’s breaks during the school year during certain days of the week.

It tends to be more expensive than the indirect train and can cost anywhere from £70 to £100+ each way depending on when you purchase it.

You will also have less flexibility in timings with this train, as it doesn’t have the same options as the indirect train.

Eurostar London to Disneyland Paris train in St Pancras station

Indirect Train from London to Disneyland Paris

The second option is the indirect train.

You can book it as one journey through the Eurostar website, but basically it will have you traveling to somewhere like Lille Station, changing trains, and then carrying on to Disneyland Paris.

This is a cheaper option with a lot more route availability, which is what I recommend for families traveling to Disneyland Paris from London.

You don’t go through Paris and don’t have to deal with the hassle of getting from Paris to Disneyland Paris.

If you don’t have the option to take an indirect Eurostar, you can also take the direct Eurostar from London to Paris Gare du Nord which takes about 2 hours.

Entrance sign to Disneyland Paris

From there, you need to either take the Paris Metro or take a taxi to Paris Gare de Lyon station, where you can then take the “RER” from there to Disneyland Paris.

The second part of this journey takes about 40 minutes, not including the transfer.

You can buy RER tickets at the kiosks when you get to Gare de Lyon.

This tends to work out for some people on a budget as the tickets from London to Paris can be incredibly cheap if you buy far enough in advance, and the RER only costs a few euros per person.

Paris train station with two trains

Getting to Disneyland Paris from London by Bus

If you’re up for an 8 to 10 hour bus ride, it is possible to take the bus from London to Disneyland Paris.

You can do this either by using a company like Magic Breaks who do “coach holidays” to Disneyland Paris, so you book through them and they provide the bus that takes you directly to Disneyland from stops in London.

Alternately, you can use a service like FlixBus or BlaBlaBus (I recommend booking through Omio ), which will take you from London to Paris, and then you will need to change buses in Paris central to get on to Disneyland Paris (or book the bus from London to Paris and then take the RER to Disneyland Paris from Paris as I’ve talked about in the train section).

Disneyland Hotel with blue sky

A bus will usually be the cheapest option to get to Disneyland Paris from London.

Some Flixbuses, for example, come in at about £20 each way per person.

However, this is not my recommended way of travel and you’ll be cramped on a bus for quite a few hours as well as losing precious time traveling on it.

I also find bus companies to be less reliable than train companies in providing the services and have heard stories of people being stranded when their bus never turned up.

London to Disneyland Paris bus with mini bus in front of Eiffel Tower

Flying from London to Disneyland Paris

Many families fly from London to Disneyland Paris each year.

Of course Disneyland Paris doesn’t have its own airport, so you need to fly from London to Charles de Gaulle, the main airport in Paris.

The flight takes just over an hour, and you can get round trip tickets for starting from around £50 depending on the season.

To find the cheapest deals on flights in Europe , I prefer to use Skyscanner .

Now, the things to factor in are the fact that you will need to get to whichever London airport your flight goes from, and if that’s somewhere like London Stansted, it’s not actually close to London.

Then, you’ll need to get to the airport 2 hours early for your flight.

And then once you land in Paris, you’ll need to go through immigration, wait for your luggage if you have any, and carry on from Charles de Gaulle airport to Disneyland Paris.

How to get to London to Disneyland Paris by plane flight on a map

How to Get from Charles de Gaulle Airport to Disneyland Paris

To get from Charles de Gaulle Airport to Disneyland Paris, you can take a shuttle bus through a company like Magical Breaks or you can take the TGV which will get you there.

You’ll first need to find the TGV Station in Terminal 2 to purchase your tickets to Disneyland Paris.

It costs about 20 euros per person and takes 12 minutes, though of course you’ll need to factor in the time of waiting for the next train.

How to get from Paris Charles de Gaulle to Disneyland Paris on a map

How to Drive from London to Disneyland Paris

People also drive from London to Disneyland Paris every year, which takes about 6-8 hours.

If you don’t have a car in the UK, you’ll want to rent one using Discover Cars for the best comparison prices.

To get across the English Channel, you’ll need to book onto the EuroTunnel.

You’ll drive your car into the train on the tunnel, it will zoom you across the channel once all of the other cars on that booking are loaded, and then you’ll drive out and be in France!

Remember that the French drive on the right side of the road while the English drive on the left, and be sure to have all of the items you need in your car in order to be qualified to drive in France.

Getting to Disneyland Paris

There are several ways to reach Disneyland Paris from London, but the most convenient option is to take the Eurostar train. Eurostar operates direct trains from London St Pancras International to Marne-la-Vallée, which is the station right at the entrance of Disneyland Paris. The journey takes around 2 hours and is a comfortable and stress-free option.

  • Book your Eurostar tickets in advance to secure the best prices.
  • Choose an early morning train to maximize your time at the park.
  • Consider purchasing a combined ticket that includes both train transport and park admission for extra convenience.

Arriving at Disneyland Paris

Once you arrive at Marne-la-Vallée station, simply follow the signs to the Disneyland Park entrance. The walk is short and well signposted, making it easy to find your way. Alternatively, you can take the free shuttle bus provided by Disneyland Paris if you prefer not to walk.

  • Wear comfortable shoes as you’ll be doing a lot of walking in the park.
  • Check the park map beforehand to familiarize yourself with the layout and plan your day accordingly.
  • Consider downloading the Disneyland Paris mobile app for real-time updates on wait times, show schedules, and more.

Exploring Disneyland Paris

Disneyland Paris consists of two parks: Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park. Disneyland Park is the iconic park with Sleeping Beauty Castle and classic Disney attractions, while Walt Disney Studios Park offers behind-the-scenes glimpses of how Disney movies are made.

Make sure to prioritize the attractions you absolutely don’t want to miss and plan your day accordingly. Disneyland Paris offers FastPasses for popular rides, allowing you to skip the regular queues and save time.

  • Arrive early to beat the crowds and make the most of your day.
  • Take advantage of the Single Rider lines, which are often shorter queues for solo visitors or those willing to split up from their group.
  • Don’t miss the Disney parades and fireworks – they are truly magical and not to be missed!

Dining and Refreshments

Disneyland Paris offers a wide range of dining options to suit all tastes and budgets. From quick-service restaurants to fine dining experiences, you’ll find something for everyone. Be sure to try some of the delicious Mickey-shaped treats that can be found throughout the park.

It’s worth noting that bringing your own food and drinks into the park is allowed. This can be a great way to save money and ensure you have food options that suit your dietary preferences.

  • Make dining reservations in advance, especially for table-service restaurants.
  • Consider having a picnic by the picturesque Sleeping Beauty Castle.
  • Stay hydrated and bring a refillable water bottle as water fountains are available throughout the park.

Shopping and Souvenirs

No trip to Disneyland Paris is complete without some magical souvenirs to take home. The park is filled with shops offering a wide variety of Disney merchandise, from clothing and accessories to toys and collectibles.

Be sure to explore the World of Disney store, located at the entrance of the park, which is the largest Disney store in Europe. Here you will find an extensive selection of Disney-themed products.

  • Set a budget for souvenirs to avoid overspending.
  • Consider purchasing souvenirs towards the end of the day to avoid carrying them around all day.
  • Look out for special edition merchandise or limited-time offers.

Returning to London

After a magical day at Disneyland Paris, it’s time to head back to London. Simply retrace your steps and take the Eurostar train from Marne-la-Vallée to London St Pancras International.

Make sure to check the train schedule in advance and allow enough time to get back to the station. It’s always a good idea to arrive at the station early to avoid any last-minute rush.

A Guide to Visit Disneyland Paris from London

Visiting Disneyland Paris from London

Ok, I’ll admit it, I’m a Disney adult. I know it’s not cool anymore, but I absolutely love it. Recently, I went for a few days to celebrate my friend’s 40th birthday. This visit was my fifth one to this magical world, earning me what I’d like to think of as an expert badge in all things Disneyland.

Nothing prepares you for the breathtaking sight of the iconic Disney castle as you step into the parade area. It’s a moment of pure magic, a vivid reminder of childhood dreams and adventures. We went in January, which was obviously freezing! And we had to dance to stay warm all day – and stock up on mulled wine at the drinks carts.

Disneyland Paris tickets visiting from London

But with our massive fluffy coats – we made our way to the Disney store to select our ears – it’s a must. I went for a Groot pair, but my friends opted for the classic Minnie’s. Once you have your ears – you need to decide where first? Studio or Village?

Personally we went to the village first – stopped at the Rainforest Cafe for lunch, then headed to the Villiage. This is because we wanted to be near the live shows, parade and fireworks for the afternoon/evening.

We stayed at Hotel Cheyenne which has a Western vibe and an impressive buffet that caters to every taste, I loved the Mickey Mouse-shaped carrots and the noodle bar was exceptional. The Saloon was also a great place to relax, especially with a Disneyland-branded bottle of wine

So, I’m going to use my knowledge to create a guide for you and tell you all the things I wish I’d known before I went.

Planning Your Adventure – Before You Go

Booking your trip from london to disneyland paris:.

Early booking benefits

I’d advise booking months in advance. As this not only secures you better rates on hotels and park tickets but also gives you ample choice for hotel room types and dining reservations. Disney often offers early bird specials, including meal plans or extra park days.

Try to visit during off-peak times

To truly enjoy the park with lighter crowds and more pleasant weather, consider visiting during the off-peak seasons, typically January through March and late autumn. You’ll also benefit from shorter wait times for attractions and more intimate character interactions. We went the week the kids went back to school, so there were a lot of young kids but no tweens or teens.

Packing Tips:

The essentials checklist

Beyond comfortable footwear and weather-appropriate clothing, remember to pack sunscreen, a reusable water bottle (there are free water fountains are available throughout the park), portable phone chargers, and rain ponchos. The weather can be super unpredictable!

Themed outfits

My friends and I all wore matching vintage-inspired tees. Why not? It’s a chance to be kids for the day. Disneyland Paris is the perfect place to let your inner Disney fan shine.

Make sure you get the App:

I cannot stress this enough – The official Disneyland Paris app is invaluable. Before your visit, familiarise yourself with the app’s features, including real-time wait times, park maps, showtimes, and the ability to make dining reservations. It can help you plan your day effectively and even find the nearest restroom or dining option while in the park. We didn’t have the app before we got to the park and wasted so much time downloading it and making a plan.

Plan your day:

Set realistic goals

It’s tempting to try and see everything, but the key to a fulfilling Disneyland Paris visit is to prioritise. Select top must-see attractions and shows, then allow time for being spontaneous. Remember, part of the magic is in the unexpected moments.

Expect queues:

THIS! Even when it’s off-peak. Even if you’ve booked a reservation. Be prepared to queue. Even with careful planning, waiting is part of the experience. Use queue times to rest, hydrate, and plan your next move.

Travelling with children or special needs

Pregnancy pass and accessibility

Special passes for expectant mothers or disabled guests can significantly enhance your experience. These passes often allow for alternative access to attractions, helping to manage energy levels and comfort. Upon arrival, inquire about all available assistance services at City Hall on Main Street, U.S.A.. Using our friend’s pregnancy pass saved us so much time. The best thing was the queue skip and having our own entrance for the parade and fireworks.

Navigating the Parks, Once You’re There

Fastpass and standby lines:.

Maximising your FastPass

Understand the FastPass system (if available during your visit) to skip long lines for popular attractions. Plan your FastPass selections around your must-do attractions and times you expect to need a break from walking.

Dining Reservations and snacking:

Advance dining reservations (ADR)

Popular restaurants fill up quickly, so booking your dining reservations 60 days in advance is recommended. For a spontaneous snack, explore the carts and kiosks throughout the park for iconic treats like Mickey-shaped pastries.

We booked a half-board option, so we could choose from a number of restaurants. We used our half board on dinner – as that seemed like the best option for saving money. We went to the BBQ Buffet at Hotel Cheyenne and were so impressed. From the salad bar, pasta, cheese bar, meat and potatoes, noodles and desserts. There were plenty of options for anyone on a vegan/veggie or restricted diet. Also, the food is served fresh and not left out long – so it’s safe for pregnant people.

Disneyland Paris has plenty of unique merchandise collections. Decide on a budget for souvenirs to avoid impulse buys and consider shopping during off-peak times (e.g., during parades) when stores are less crowded.

Accommodation

Choosing your hotel:.

Disney hotels vs. partner hotels

Staying on-site at a Disney hotel has its benefits, like Extra Magic Time (early park access), proximity to the parks, and immersive theming. However, partner hotels can offer better value and complimentary shuttles to the parks but check the amenities and travel times.

One of the best things we did was booking the luggage service. It’s in the train station and they will take your bags to and from the hotel for you – so you have extra time in the park – especially as you don’t want to carry your bags around until your 3pm check-in.

Getting There

Driving and ferry vs. eurostar:.

When planning your magical journey to Disneyland Paris, deciding on the best mode of transportation is crucial for a smooth start and end to your trip. Your options largely fall into two categories: driving (potentially combined with a ferry or Euro tunnel) or taking the Eurostar. Here’s a detailed look at each option to help you make the best choice for your adventure.

Driving and Ferry:

  • Flexibility and scenery: Opting to drive or get a coach, especially if your journey includes a ferry ride from Dover to Calais, offers flexibility. You can travel at your own pace, make stops along the way, and enjoy the scenic routes of France. It’s an adventure in itself, offering beautiful landscapes and the freedom to explore.
  • Cost considerations: While driving might save money on individual tickets if you’re traveling in a group, consider the costs of fuel, tolls (France’s autoroutes are predominantly toll roads), and ferry tickets. Parking fees at Disneyland Paris should also be factored into your budget.
  • Travel time: Depending on your starting point, driving can be time-consuming. The ferry crossing adds to the journey time but is an experience on its own, with facilities to relax and enjoy the voyage.
  • Luggage and convenience: Driving is ideal for those carrying more or larger luggage, offering ample space for strollers, suitcases, and those must-have Disney outfits. It also means you have transportation for exploring the area around Disneyland Paris, including Paris itself or the beautiful French countryside.
  • Direct access: The Eurostar offers direct services to Marne-la-Vallée/Chessy station, located right at the gates of Disneyland Paris. It’s an incredibly convenient option that eliminates the need for additional transfers, making it perfect for those who want to start their Disney adventure the moment they step off the train.
  • Speed and comfort: With a journey time from London St Pancras to Disneyland Paris of around 2 hours and 40 minutes, the Eurostar is significantly faster than driving for UK visitors. Trains offer comfortable seating, onboard facilities, and the chance to relax or even nap before arriving.
  • Environmental consideration: For those looking to reduce their carbon footprint, the Eurostar is a more sustainable option compared to driving and taking the ferry. High-speed trains have a lower environmental impact, offering a greener way to travel.
  • Pricing and booking: Eurostar tickets can be a cost-effective option, especially if booked in advance. Prices vary based on demand and time of year, so early booking is recommended to snag the best deals. Keep an eye out for special promotions or group discounts.

Navigating Disneyland Paris: When you’re there

Once you arrive at Disneyland Paris, the excitement can be overwhelming. With two parks to explore—Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park—plus a variety of attractions, shows, and dining options, planning your movements is essential.

Start with a plan, but be flexible:

Prioritise attractions:

Before arriving, list the must-see attractions and shows for your group. Use the Disneyland Paris app to strategise your day and check wait times and FastPass availability (if applicable).

Be flexible:

While having a plan is beneficial, be open to changing it based on wait times, weather, and spontaneous opportunities like character meet-and-greets.

Utilise the Disneyland Paris App:

Real-time information:

The app is invaluable for navigating the parks. It provides real-time wait times for attractions, showtimes, restaurant menus, and the ability to make dining reservations. It also has an interactive map to guide you through the parks.

Plan meal times:

To avoid peak mealtime crowds, consider dining at off-peak hours. Use the app to find nearby dining options or to grab a quick snack.

Disneyland Paris Restaurants for kids

Take Advantage of Extra Magic Time:

Early access for hotel guests: If you’re staying at a Disney hotel, you may have access to Extra Magic Time, allowing you to enter the parks before they open to the general public. This is a perfect time to hit the most popular rides with minimal waits.

Navigating with children or special needs:

Baby Switch and Accessibility: Families with young children can use the Baby Switch service, allowing parents to take turns riding without waiting in line twice. For guests with disabilities, the park offers accessibility options and services to accommodate various needs, ensuring everyone can enjoy their visit.

Break times and rest areas:

Plan for breaks: The excitement of Disneyland Paris can be tiring, especially for little ones. Identify rest areas and quieter spots in the parks for breaks. This can help recharge your energy for the rest of the day’s adventures.

Enjoy the details:

Explore Beyond the Big Attractions: Disneyland Paris is filled with details and hidden gems. Take time to explore the nooks and crannies, from the beautifully themed areas to the intricate details in the queues and attractions.

Seasonal Events:

Spring: As the park blooms into a palette of pastel colours, Disneyland Paris celebrates spring with the Spring Festival. This event features special parades with characters dressed in seasonal attire, unique meet-and-greets, and themed decorations that breathe new life into the park. It’s a perfect time for those who love the beauty of spring.

Summer: The summer months are known for extended park hours, giving guests more time to explore, ride, and enjoy the entertainment. The Lion King and Jungle Festival is a highlight, with an immersive experience with shows and interactive experiences that pay tribute to these stories.

Halloween: Disneyland Paris undergoes a spooky transformation in October, celebrating Halloween with an array of decorations, from grinning pumpkins to eerie ghosts. The park hosts special shows, a Halloween parade, and night-time events that offer frightful fun for visitors of all ages. Character meet-and-greets during this season are unique, with villains frequently appearing more.

Christmas: The Christmas Season at Disneyland Paris is truly magical, with the park decked out in festive decor. Guests can enjoy the Christmas parade, meet Santa Claus, and marvel at the stunning Christmas tree and decorations that light up the park.

New Year’s Eve: Disneyland Paris hosts an unforgettable New Year’s Eve Party to ring in the new year . This special ticketed event includes exclusive shows, fireworks, and access to attractions late into the night. I have been for New Year and I have to say the midnight fireworks were pure magic.

Special Events: Beyond the seasonal festivities, Disneyland Paris also hosts various special events throughout the year, such as runDisney events, where guests can participate in themed runs through the parks, and Magical Pride, celebrating diversity and inclusion with a fun-filled parade and special entertainment.

Can You Do a Day Trip to Disneyland Paris From London?

By Robert Palmer

Are you planning a trip to London but also want to visit Disneyland Paris? The good news is that it is possible to do a day trip to Disneyland Paris from London. Here’s what you need to know before planning your trip.

Travel Options

There are two main ways to get from London to Disneyland Paris: by train or by coach. The Eurostar train from London St Pancras International Station takes just over two hours to reach Disneyland Paris, while the coach takes around four hours.

The Eurostar train is the quickest and most comfortable way of getting from London to Disneyland Paris. You can take the train from London St Pancras International Station, which will take you directly to Marne-la-Vallee station, located just steps away from the entrance of Disneyland Paris. The journey time is around two hours and 45 minutes, and there are plenty of trains available throughout the day.

If you’re on a budget, taking a coach might be a better option for you. The coach journey takes around four hours and departs from Victoria Coach Station in central London. Coaches run daily and drop you off at the entrance of Disneyland Paris.

Once you’ve decided on your travel option, it’s time to buy your tickets for Disneyland Paris. You can either buy them online in advance or at the park entrance.

Online Tickets

Buying tickets online in advance is recommended as it will save you time and money. You can purchase tickets on the official Disneyland Paris website or through third-party websites such as AttractionTix or GetYourGuide.

On-Site Tickets

If you decide not to buy tickets in advance, you can purchase them at the park entrance. However, be prepared for long queues during peak season.

What to Expect

A day trip to Disneyland Paris from London is a long day, so it’s important to plan your time at the park carefully. Disneyland Paris has two parks: Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park. Both parks offer a range of attractions, shows, and parades.

Disneyland Park

Disneyland Park is the main attraction at Disneyland Paris and features classic Disney rides such as Space Mountain, It’s a Small World, and Pirates of the Caribbean. The park is split into five themed lands: Main Street USA, Fantasyland, Adventureland, Frontierland, and Discoveryland.

Walt Disney Studios Park

Walt Disney Studios Park is located next to Disneyland Park and focuses on movie-themed attractions such as Ratatouille: The Adventure, Crush’s Coaster, and Toy Story Playland.

Tips for Your Day Trip

Here are some tips to make the most of your day trip to Disneyland Paris:

  • Arrive early: The park opens at 10 am so arrive early to make the most of your day.
  • Pack wisely: Bring comfortable shoes and a bag with essentials such as sunscreen, snacks, and water.
  • Plan ahead: Check the park map before you go and plan which rides you want to go on.
  • Watch out for queues: Some rides have long queues during peak season so use your time wisely.
  • Catch a parade or show: Don’t miss out on the amazing parades and shows that take place throughout the day.

At first glance it may seem difficult to get from London to Disneyland Paris , but it really isn’t. You can get from London to Disneyland Paris with little to no hassle, and there is one route you can take that requires no transferring!

There are four different ways to get from London to Disneyland Paris. You can take the train directly to Disneyland Paris, the train to central Paris then the Paris metro to Disneyland Paris, you can fly, or you can take the bus.

This guide will only cover the first three methods because I don’t think taking the bus is practical or worth even suggesting to you.

The bus takes almost six hours and requires two to four transfers. That is way too much of a hassle when the Eurostar train is much quicker and than the bus.

In addition to telling you about all your different options to get to Disneyland Paris from London, this guide will also give you guidance on choosing the right option for you and your travel style.

Knowing the pros and cons of each travel method will help you choose what will work best for you. Different modes of transportation work best for different people, and my goal is not to tell you what works best for me but guide you in finding what works best for you!

Eurostar Train from London Directly to Disneyland Paris

Sadly, starting in spring of 2023, the Eurostar no longer runs from London to Disneyland Paris. You must take the train from London to Gare du Nord then the Paris Metro to Disneyland Paris. It’s a very sad development. I’m going to leave the details of how you used to be able to travel from London to Disneyland Paris below just in case they bring it back as an option in the future. The direct train from London to Disneyland Paris still shows on the Eurostar website, so it may be coming back sometime in the future. Be sure to consult the Eurostar website to see if a train direct from London to Disneyland Paris is available when you’re travelling.

This is the most direct, convenient, and quickest way to get from London to Disneyland Paris. Eurostar has one direct train a day from London St. Pancras station directly to Marne-La-Vallée (the train station located right at Disneyland Paris).

It leaves London at 10:15am and arrives at Disneyland Paris at 2pm. It is so quick and easy, but the downside is that there is only one train per day, and you may have to get up fairly early to catch the train depending on where in London you are staying.

NOTE: The direct train does not run between London and Disneyland Paris between early January and mid-February. You need to plan an alternative route if you are travelling during this time.

You will have to use the London Underground to get to St. Pancras in most cases, and that can take upwards of 45 minutes if you’re staying on the opposite side of the city and need to transfer to multiple different lines on the Underground.

Getting Train Tickets

You need to purchase your tickets online in advance on the Eurostar website . Tickets are available for purchase 180 days in advance. You should purchase your tickets as early as you can! This will give you the most options when choosing your seats, and Eurostar ticket prices increase as the date of departure gets closer and closer.

Eurostar tickets aren’t cheap to begin with, and they become extremely expensive if you’re booking tickets only a week or two in advance. I don’t normally plan things very far in advance when I travel, but I always get my Eurostar tickets the day I decide I’m going to be taking the train between London and Paris.

You need to print your ticket before you board the train. You will need a physical ticket. Unfortunately having an electronic ticket is not good enough, but hopefully that will change soon!

Eurostar Train from London to Disneyland Paris

Be Sure to Get to the Station Early!

It is essential that you arrive at St. Pancras at least half an hour before your train departs! You need to go through security as well as customs, so be sure to have your passport or EU residence card easily accessible!

It is airport-style security, so you will have to remove your belt and remove any loose change from your pocket. Your bags will go through a scanner and by x-rayed. You will then go to a customs counter to get your passport stamped or your residence card checked.

Then you are free to board the train when it is time.

The entire process goes pretty quickly, but you don’t want to be too rushed. It is always safer to leave a little extra time than not enough and be stressed and rushing.

The first time I took the Eurostar from London to Paris, there was an issue with the Underground, and I arrived at St. Pancras ten minutes before the train departed! The staff was incredibly helpful and got me through security and customs quickly then escorted me to the train, but it was far too stressful!

Disneyland Paris Packages that Include the Train

You have the option to book a package directly through Disneyland Paris that includes your Eurostar train directly from London to Disneyland Paris. You can learn about the packages on the Disneyland Paris website .

A few of the features include:

  • Complimentary luggage transfers from the train to your Disneyland Paris hotel
  • Activity and colouring sheets for children on the train
  • Round-trip direct train from London to Disneyland Paris and back
  • Park tickets for the duration of your stay
  • Accommodation at a Disneyland Paris hotel

This package option can be a good choice for some families. You need to review all of the package features before you make your decision. The inclusion of luggage transfers and the Eurostar tickets being arranged for you probably isn’t enough to justify the package price.

However, if you get a good deal on the hotel and the extra perks are attractive to you and your family, the package may be a great option. You really need to crunch the numbers of what the package costs versus what it would cost to pay for everything out-of-pocket. Oftentimes the package deals don’t save you as much money as they claim to.

The Pros and Cons of Taking the Train Directly to Disneyland Paris

  • It is direct! This is by far the most attractive part of this transportation method.
  • The trains arrives steps away from Disneyland Paris. You don’t need to worry about figuring out how to get to Disneyland Paris after you get off the train.
  • It is quick. The journey takes less than three hours!
  • The train from London to Disneyland Paris only leaves once per day.
  • Last-minute tickets are going to cost you a pretty penny.
  • It doesn’t run between early January and mid-February.

Eurostar Train from London to Central Paris

The next option is to take the train from St. Pancras station in London to Gare du Nord in Paris. Trains leave London for Gare du Nord approximately once per hour (normally at half past the hour). This means it is a lot easier to fit catching this train into your travel schedule because there are many more trains that leave.

The train from London to Central Paris takes about two and a half hours, so the transportation time to Paris is comparable to taking the train to Disneyland Paris directly.

This train is also direct, so you don’t need to worry about transferring to another train during your journey. You still need to go through security and customs, so all the previous advise regarding getting to the station early is still important!

All of the ticketing information that was outlined in the section about the train directly from London to Disneyland Paris still stands.

You should book your ticket as early as possible and up to 180 days in advance. Even though there are a lot more train options, it doesn’t mean that it is less of a risk to wait and book your ticket closer to the date of departure.

Eurostar still raises their ticket prices the closer it is to the date of departure. There are a lot of different train options, but it is a very popular route and often sells out. This is especially true if you are travelling on a weekend, during peak hours, or over a holiday.

Ticket prices will already be more expensive during those times than they are during non-peak times, and they will only go up in cost the longer you wait.

Trust me. You don’t want to procrastinate about booking your Eurostar ticket. You will end up regretting it in the long run, and you may even decide that taking the train isn’t worth it because the price has increased so much.

So please, please take my advise and book your train ticket early!

Eurostar International Departure

Getting from Gare du Nord to Disneyland Paris

You’ve made it from London to Paris but now you have to get from central Paris to Disneyland Paris. In order to do that, you need to take the RER train to Marne-la-Vallée-Chessy. You can either take RER B or RER D. Both RERs run very frequently.

In this post, I am only going to take about the RER B because it is the simpler of the two routes.

The first step is to follow the signs for the Paris Metro/RER. They will be easily visible as you walk from the train platform. Once you are in the portion of Gare du Nord that houses the RER, you will need to purchase tickets.

There are green ticket machines that allow you to purchase tickets without queuing to purchase them from a ticket booth. The ticket machines are very easy to use and offer many different language options if you don’t speak French.

Pro Tip: Walk past the first set of ticket machines you see right when you enter the station. They are always the busiest! There are more ticket machines further into the station that are less busy.

A one-way ticket from Gare du Nord to Marne-la-Vallée-Chessy costs €7.50. The ticket machines accept cash, debit, and credit.

Navigating the RER Once You Have Your Ticket

Now that you have purchased your ticket and are ready to get on the RER, follow the signs for RER B in the direction of Robinson / Saint-Rémy-lés-Chevreuse.

You can get on any train that stops on your side of the platform as you are getting off at the very next stop. Don’t get comfortable when you board the train because it isn’t a long ride!

You get off at Châtelet Les Halles (the next stop after Gare du Nord) and transfer to the RER A. The transfer from the RER B to the RER A is incredibly simple. You simply walk from one side of the platform to the other.

The RER A has two different routes, so you have to be careful to make sure you get on the correct train. You need to get on the train that ends at Marne-la-Vallée-Chessy. If you get on the incorrect train, you will have to backtrack and get on the proper train. It is a hassle that is easily avoided by ensuring you are on the correct train.

There will be an overhead display on the platform showing the end destination of the train. If it doesn’t say Marne-la-Vallée-Chessy, don’t get on that train.

Trains to Marne-la-Vallée-Chessy run approximately every ten to fifteen minutes.

The journey once you get on the RER A takes just over half an hour so get comfortable and enjoy the ride. You don’t have to worry about accidentally missing your stop because Marne-la-Vallée-Chessy is the last stop on the line.

The Pros and Cons of Taking the Train from London to Gare du Nord

  • It is quick and doesn’t require you to transfer trains.
  • There are multiple departures every day.
  • You have to navigate the Paris metro.
  • It takes longer than the Eurostar directly from London to Disneyland Paris when you factor in the time you’re on the metro.

Disneyland Paris Castle

Flying from London to Paris

The last option is to fly from London to Paris then taking public transportation to Disneyland Paris. You can often find inexpensive flights from London to Paris by using Sky Scanner or Google Flights .

The inexpensive flights you find are often on budget airlines like Ryanair or EasyJet . This means you have to be cautious of extra charges like baggage, pre-booking a designated seat, and printing a boarding pass at the airport that can increase the price of your ticket.

You may also have to fly out from smaller airports like Stansted that don’t have the best ground transportation options. Or land at Beauvais-Tillé in Paris, which doesn’t have great ground transportation options either.

I advise you not to land at Beauvais-Tillé as it takes approximately three hours to get from the airport to Disneyland Paris. It is worth it to pay a little bit more for your flight to land at Charles de Gaulle.

It would be ideal to get a flight out of Heathrow or Gatwick and land at Charles de Gaulle in Paris. This will give you the easiest and quickest flying route from London to Paris. If you can’t land at Charles de Gaulle, Orly Airport would be the next best option to land at.

Landing at Charles de Gaulle

There are three ways to get from Charles de Gaulle to Disneyland Paris.

This is the quickest, easiest, and cheapest way to get from Charles de Gaulle to Disneyland Paris. It costs €17.50 per person one-way and only takes 15 minutes once you’re on the train. The train doesn’t run as frequently as the metro, so it is possible you will have to wait up to 30 minutes for the next train to arrive.

The TGV leaves from terminal two and is one level below the ticketing counters. You take the train in the direction of Marne-la-Vallée and get off at Marne-la-Vallée (2 stops away from Gare du Nord). You don’t need to book tickets in advance. Tickets can be purchased at the airport when you arrive.

This is the method I would recommend to most people.

The Magic Shuttle Bus

This is a bus that takes you from Charles de Gaulle to Disneyland Paris. It costs €23 for adults and €10 for children over the age of two. Children under the age of two ride free.

The Magic Shuttle Bus also departs from terminal two between sub-terminals 2E and 2F. Once you are near 2F, you will take exit 8 and walk outside until you reach the bus.

The bus rides takes approximately 90 minutes. It is more expensive and takes longer than the TGV, so I don’t recommend this option.

The final option is taking a taxi. A taxi costs €76 on average and takes approximately 40 minutes. This is quite expensive, and I wouldn’t recommend it to smaller groups. I would only suggest this as an option to people with a larger group where €76 is close to the cost of using public transportation.

You can get a taxi in any terminal, and they are available 24 hours a day.

Disneyland Paris France

Landing at Orly Airport

Just like with Charles de Gaulle, there are three way to get to Disneyland Paris from Orly. They are via RER, the bus, or a taxi.

Taking the RER

Taking the RER to Disneyland Paris from Orly requires two transfers and takes approximately 90 minutes. The cost of the entire journey is €10.

You start by taking Orlyval from the airport to Antony. At Antony you transfer to the RER B. You must make sure you get on an RER B train that stops at Chatelet Les Halles. At Chatelet Les Halles you will get off the train and transfer to the RER A.

As described earlier, you need to ensure you get on an RER A train that ends at Marne-la-Vallée-Chessy. You get off at Marne-la-Vallée-Chessy and walk directly to Disneyland Paris. It is as simple as that!

The Magic Shuttle

Orly has a Magic Shuttle that takes you directly to Disneyland Paris. The bus runs seven days a week between 9am and 7:20pm, and it costs €10 for an adult and €10 for a child. The shuttle takes 90 minutes on average, but it can take longer if there is a lot of traffic.

The Magic Shuttle departs from both the South and West terminals. They depart approximately every 40 to 80 minutes depending on the time of day. During peak hours, they depart more frequently at every 40 minutes. At off-peak hours, the bus runs less often at every 80 minutes.

The Magic Shuttle drops guests off at the Disneyland hotels. If you are going straight to the parks without dropping off your luggage, you should get off at the Disneyland Hotel stop as that is the closest hotel to the park entrance.

This is the most popular method of getting from Orly to Disneyland Paris, so it is quite often very busy. It isn’t guaranteed that you will be able to sit with your family.

I would recommend this as the best option to get from Orly to Disneyland Paris.

It takes the same amount of time as the RER, but you don’t need to transfer. You just get on the bus and get off. There is no need to figure out if you’re getting on the proper train and going in the right direction. It is far less stressful.

The final option is to take a taxi from Orly to Disneyland Paris. Below are the prices for a taxi to the parks:

  • 1-4 passengers – € 65
  • 1-5 passengers – € 70
  • 1-6 passengers – € 75
  • 1-8 passengers – € 80

You can pre-book your taxi here . If you don’t want to pre-book a taxi, you can pick up a taxi at any terminal when you land.

This is a good option for people with a large group. It is potentially less expensive than taking your entire group on the shuttle, and you don’t have to wait for the next shuttle to arrive.

Pros and Cons of Flying

  • It is great for people who are staying near an airport in London or who are going directly from London to Disneyland Paris without leaving the airport.
  • It is a great alternative for people who are afraid of taking the train.
  • You can use frequently flyer miles or points to save money if you have them.
  • It takes a lot longer than the train by the time you get to the airport, go through security, board, fly, disembark, go through customs, and then take public transportation to Disneyland.
  • It is often more expensive than the Eurostar.

So What Mode of Transportation Do I Recommend?

This is a difficult thing to answer because, as I said at the start, everybody has different travel needs. I think what will be most helpful is to highlight what type of traveler would enjoy each of the three different options. This will help you choose what is best for you!

Train Directly from London to Disneyland Paris

But my personal favourite method of transportation is taking the train directly from London to Disneyland Paris. It is just so convenient!

This is the best option for people who are staying on or near Disneyland Paris property. It takes away the stress of trying to get from Gare du Nord or Charles de Gaulle to Disneyland Paris.

You simply get off the train and head to your hotel. It is the least stressful way to get from London to Disneyland Paris.

I would highly recommend taking the Eurostar from London to Disneyland Paris directly to anybody who is going to Paris specifically to go to Disneyland Paris and isn’t doing anything else in Paris.

Disneyland Paris France

Train from London to Gare du Nord

Taking the train from London to Gare du Nord is great for people who are staying in central Paris or who are doing more in Paris than just Disneyland Paris. This option allows you to arrive in central Paris and then find your hotel in central Paris before heading to Disneyland Paris for a day trip .

This is also a great option for people who are travelling from London to Disneyland Paris during the winter when the direct train isn’t running. It gives you the convenience of taking the train with just a little extra hassle of taking the RER from Gare du Nord.

The train to Gare du Nord also gives you more flexibility than the direct train from London to Disneyland Paris because it runs more often. It is easier to fit into your travel schedule than the direct Eurostar train that only leaves once every morning.

This would personally be my last option. It is by far the longest option and often isn’t less expensive than taking the Eurostar train.

I think this could be a good option for people who are landing in London and going directly to Paris without leaving the airport or people who are travelling to Disneyland Paris from a different city in England other than London.

Taking a flight may be quicker and more convenient than going all the way into London then catching a train to Disneyland Paris.

But I wouldn’t recommend this option to people who are staying in central London. It is much easier to take a train from St. Pancras to Paris than head all the way to the airport and flying to Paris.

It is very easy to get from London to Disneyland Paris no matter what transportation option you choose. You could take the train first thing in the morning and still have half a day in the parks!

I would recommend looking into taking a Eurostar train. They are quick, convenient, clean, and you can find less expensive tickets if you book far enough in advance.

It is super easy to get from London to Disneyland Paris, and it makes a great addition to your Europe trip. I mean who doesn’t want to spend a few days at Disney?

A GUIDE TO DISNEYLAND PARIS FROM LONDON

GUÍA A DISNEYLAND PARÍS DESDE LONDRES

If you are reading this it’s because you are seriously considering crossing the pond just to enter the magical world of Disneyland in it’s European version. No one is ever too old for Disneyland. Not only that — I personally believe it is actually healthy for all of us to visit every now and then. I’ve been to Disneyland Paris from London three times already and as soon as I leave I already want to go back again. It’s actually very easy to do — so let’s dive in.

Table of Contents

Disneyland Paris From London: How Long To Visit

Disneyland Paris has two parks: Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park. If you have been to Disney World, Disneyland Park is the equivalent to the Magic Kingdom Park and Walt Disney Studios Park to Hollywood Studios.

It is totally possible to visit both Disneyland Paris parks in a weekend if you are coming from London, it is also possible to visit both Disneyland Paris parks in just one day leaving Sunday free to visit Paris a bit and to go back home to London. I have done that in three occasions and left feeling satisfied. I was able to visit all the adult friendly rides this way and some kid friendly ones that seemed fun.

If you want to visit the parks properly though, going into almost every attraction, I would recommend one and a half or two full days. But honestly, one day is value for money if you are visiting as an adult and have the energy to rush through games quickly, take short lunches, etc.

 DISNEYLAND PARIS FROM LONDON

Disneyland Paris From London: How To Get There

There are several options to go from Disneyland Paris to London. I’ll list them here and explain the pros and cons from each.

  • Eurostar from London to Disneyland Paris (Marne-la-Vallée): This is the most direct option for Disneyland Paris from London. Trains take around 2h 45 min and 3h 20 min if there is a stop at Lille. One of limitations it has is that there are far less trains from London to Disneyland Paris than from London to the centre of Paris so if you are planning to go after work on a Friday it may not work out. It also might not be best if your hotel is not in Marne-La-Vallee but in between Paris and Disneyland Paris. Last, you may want to return from Paris if you plan to spend some time in the city so a return train from Marne-La-Vallee might not work out. What I have done in the past is to take the Eurostar to Disneyland Paris from London on my way there, but from Paris centre on my way back.
  • Eurostar from London to Paris centre (Gare du Nord): This option has a 2h 20 min duration to Paris and then requires you to take a 30-40 minute RER train(s) costing 3-4 EUR to Disneyland Paris or your Disneyland hotel. The good thing is that there are many more Eurostar trains to Gare du Nord so it might be the best option in terms of price and timing — it generally was for me. At least taking the train back from Gare du Nord allows you to visit Paris on the day you are coming back to London, maybe eat in a nice restaurant and take yet another picture of the Tour Eiffel.
  • Flights from London to Charles-de-Gaulle or Orly airports in Paris: This is by far the least preferable option due to the added hassle of traveling to and from airports. And even if the ticket seems really cheap, you have to add in the costs of traveling to and from the airports which at least in London can be a lot. This option only makes sense in the event that you decide to make the trip to Disneyland with little anticipation and Eurostar tickets are over the roof which is not unusual if you are booking less than three weeks in advance. I always use Momondo to find the cheapest prices and in this case to compare prices to Eurostar.

Disneyland ticket prices don’t vary as much and rarely sell out, so if you want to avoid spending a fortune in your trip to Disneyland Paris from London book your transportation as cheaply as possible first.

DISNEYLAND PARIS FROM LONDON

To get the best Eurostar prices from London to Paris or Disneyland Paris:

  • Book well in advance . This is the most important thing.
  • Check for any seasonal promotions — for instance Eurostar did a New Year promotion where tickets could up as cheap as £29 per leg.
  • If you have some flexibility use Eurostar Snap . This Eurostar tool allows you to snap really cheap tickets where you choose the time of the day you want to travel — AM or PM — without knowing the exact time. You then get the ticket confirmation and exact departure time 48hs before.

Disneyland Paris From London: Buying Disneyland Paris Tickets

If you have booked your London to Disneyland Paris transportation already, then it’s time to book your Disneyland Paris tickets ! You can buy 1 day or up to 5 day tickets . The most popular is the 1-day 2-parks ticket. You can also buy a flexible ticket valid from one year since you buy it.

Contrary to what one might think the official Disneyland UK website is not where you get the cheapest tickets. I usually just use GetYourGuide as the explanations on what each ticket is are very straightforward and you can also book tickets with transport. Book your tickets here.

Disneyland Paris From London: Where To Stay

When I first visited Disneyland Paris from London I thought about staying in one of the Disneyland hotels. As an adult, it’s not essential but I thought it would be nice. But then I saw the prices and I instantly pivoted from that idea.

Turns out there are other hotels around the area that are a lot cheaper, but most of them where budget chain hotels and that’s not really my style. So I’m so glad I found Le Vieux Puits – a B&B located in quiet Bry-sur-Marne only about 20 minutes from Disneyland by RER. What’s most special about this B&B is that you can stay in a gypsy caravan on the garden of the property which was magical in its own way. You are also supporting a local entrepreneur which is always nice. You can read my full review about Le Vieux Puits and book it here .

If you want to stay at the Disneyland Paris hotels or just want to view other options I’ve pre-filtered all the available Disneyland Hotels here .

Disneyland Paris From London: How To Make The Most Of Your Visit

Once you have transport and accommodation figured out it’s now time to think about how to experience it to the maximum.

Entering the Disneyland parks and opening times

The park opens at 10AM till 8/9 or 10PM depending on the day. If you are staying in some Disneyland Hotels can access the parks during “Magic Hours” so from 8:30-10:00 AM but only some attractions are open at this time.

To enter the park you will need either an official Disneyland Paris ticket or an e-ticket printed at home. Note that despite the various disclaimers specifying that the ticket must be printed, you can actually scan the e-ticket from the PDF in your phone.

DISNEYLAND PARIS FROM LONDON

Disneyland Paris attractions and minimising waiting times

Before the day comes, download the Disneyland Paris mobile app where you’ll be able to see a map, all available attractions and their waiting times. The app is pretty decent. It requires an internet connection, the cellphone reception in the park is ok and there is also wi-fi available which works most of the time.

In the app you’ll be able to filter the attractions which have FastPass. Remember, the FastPass is your best friend. It is a ticket you take from an attraction in advance to enter it with no queue at a set time. The caveats are:

  • You need to physically walk to the attraction to take the FastPass by scanning your entrance ticket at the FastPass machines.
  • The time on the FastPass ticket is auto-allocated, you cannot choose a specific time.
  • You can only have one FastPass at a time. Another ticket can only be obtained once the previous one has been used or 2 hours after the previous one. The FastPass ticket will show you at what time you can take another one.
  • FastPasses are limited to availability, some attractions will run out of FastPass as early as 11AM.

I’ll leave the decision for which attraction you’ll get a FastPass to you. The only tip I’ll give you is that the only attraction original to Paris that has a FastPass is Ratatouille and it usually has long waiting times so if you decide to start your day in Hollywood Studios visiting Ratatouille might make sense.

Some attractions also have a single rider queue with much less wait, so if you are going as an adult you can choose to split up and queue less. I thoroughly recommend this.

Food in Disneyland Paris

There are tons of places where to buy food in Disneyland Paris. Of course they are mostly overpriced and fast food as the expectation is that you’ll eat quickly and be on your way to more rides.

You don’t need absolutely need to bring food as you can find places where to buy something pretty fast —although there is generally a queue. If you are all about optimising time, bring packed sandwiches and use a long queue to have your lunch. And do bring snacks for time in between meals.

If you are a vegan like me, just know that although Disneyland Paris’ has recently improved catering for vegans, options are limited and pricy so pack something just in case.

What to bring to Disneyland Paris

  • A small backpack . You’ll be able to bring a small backpack on most of the rides and may run into trouble if it’s too big.
  • Weather appropriate clothing — including a raincoat and/or umbrella if rain is expected. You’ll be most of the time outside and many of the queues involve queuing in open air.
  • Comfy shoes as you will be standing most of the time and also walking quite a lot.
  • Sunblock and sunglasses depending on the season as you won’t need these in winter.
  • A water bottle that you can refill on the drinking stations in the bathrooms.

Thanks for this guide! I’m a huge Disney fan in the US, and have visited Disneyland Paris a couple of times! Great recommendation with the B&B you found! If you go back again I would love to see more reviews of the restaurants. They don’t just offer fast food from what I’ve heard, and I’d like to hear what your thoughts would be!

They were fast food ish / low quality food for me. And expensive, I didn’t like them. Even on the outside area (ie Planet Hollywood) food was terrible. and SO expensive!

seems you had great fun..all your pics are amazing and very informative article.. thanks for sharing

How to Plan a Day Trip to Paris From London by Train

Adventurous Kate contains affiliate links. If you make a purchase through these links, I will earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Thanks!

A day trip to Paris from London is the perfect addition to a trip to England!  Thanks to the fast and efficient Eurostar train, it’s never been easier to visit Paris for a day. The train takes just two hours and 20 minutes.

Honestly, one day isn’t enough for Paris — ideally, you should spend as much time there as you can. I would gladly stay in Paris for weeks on end.

But not everyone has lots of extra time on their trip. So is it worth it if you only have one day to spare?

Absolutely — taking the train from London to Paris is always worth it. Even if all you have is one day, you can still make it the best day ever.

But if you’re only visiting Paris for one day, it’s best to plan your trip carefully so that you get as much out of it as you can. I’ve laid out all the steps you need to take and a suggested itinerary for someone visiting the French capital for the first time.

Let’s take a look at the itinerary! I want you to have the best day trip ever.

Paris Day Trip from London FAQ

The best way to get from London to Paris is by train . It goes from St. Pancras Station in London to Gare du Nord in Paris and takes about two hours and 20 minutes.

No matter what the weather is, you should dress neatly and wear shoes with good arch support. I usually wear jeans, black flats, a faux leather jacket, and a scarf.

Yes, you need your passport to go from London to Paris or vice versa. You will go through immigration. This goes for EU residents too, as due to Brexit the UK is no longer in the EU.

The perfect one-day itinerary in Paris includes exploring Notre-Dame and the Marais, having my favorite crepes and galettes in the world for lunch, visiting a gorgeous art museum, and seeing the Eiffel Tower up close.

A bright yellow train in London's King's Cross station and people walking by with suitcases.

Take the train from London to Paris

The train is far and away the best way to visit Paris for a day.  Eurostar trains depart from London’s St Pancras International Station, arrive at Paris’s Gare du Nord, and take about two hours and 20 minutes each way. You can buy Eurostar tickets here.

This is the Channel Tunnel train to Paris that goes underwater, beneath the English Channel. You go from the center of London to the center of Paris, plus the train journey is exceedingly pleasant.

The bus from London to Paris, by comparison, takes more than seven hours. Not worth it. Driving takes just under six hours if you don’t hit traffic.

You could fly from London to Paris, but I wouldn’t recommend it for a day trip. The flight only takes about one hour and 10 minutes, but you have to factor in getting to the airport 90 minutes before your flight, plus nearly all of the London airports and all Paris airports are located significantly outside the city and take a long time to get there.

(If you insist on flying to Paris for the day, I recommend either flying from London City Airport, which is centrally located though often very expensive, or flying from Heathrow and taking Heathrow Express from Paddington Station, which takes just 15 minutes.)

You need your passport when going from London to Paris, whether it’s by train, plane, or any other method. Even if you’re an EU citizen. Britain is neither in the Schengen Area nor the European Union anymore.

What time should you book the train for? If it were me, I would book a very early train to Paris and a very late train back to London. Perhaps even the last train. I would want to have an early start and enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner in Paris.

Be realistic about how much you can see on a Paris day trip from London.

One day is not enough for Paris, nor is it enough for everything you will personally want to see on a day trip to Paris from London. You can’t see the Louvre Museum and the Musée d’Orsay and go to the Eiffel Tower and go to Hemingway’s bars and walk around Montmartre and see the show at the Moulin Rouge.

In fact, I wouldn’t advise visiting more than one museum on a day trip to Paris.

I encourage you to choose one or two activities that are absolute musts and to plan your day around them. Supplement your day with activities that are close to your main priorities.

For example, if seeing Notre-Dame is a priority, you can easily fit in nearby destinations like Saint-Chappelle, Île Saint-Louis, Shakespeare and Company bookstore, and either the Marais or St. Germain des Prés.

If you want to spend part of your day in Montmartre, visit the Sacré Coeur, take a long walk down Rue Lepic, see Amélie’s Café des Deux Moulins, and walk down to the Opéra before checking out the rooftop terrace at Galeries-Lafayette.

And if you absolutely must visit the Louvre on your Paris day trip, take time to wander the Tuileries Gardens, visit the Palais Royal, and grab a hot chocolate at Angelina before window-shopping at the jewelry shops of Place Vendôme.

day trip london to disneyland paris

Include downtime in your itinerary.

It’s easy to spend a Paris day trip going from attraction to attraction, but I think the magic of Paris is found in the in-between moments. Sitting in a cafe with a coffee or a glass of red wine. Wandering cheese and pastry shops. Crossing the Seine over and over again with no destination in mind.

It doesn’t take a lot of effort to get of the beaten path — just go to a new neighborhood and wander in whatever destination pleases you.  I wrote a whole post about it.

This free time is where the Paris magic happens.

What to Do on a Day Trip to Paris

I always tell people to travel to the destination that makes their pulse race. And that goes for Paris, too. Prioritize the things that make you excited — the things that are most important to you personally, not the things that you think you should do. If you’re not into art, you don’t have to go to any museums! You can have a day trip to Paris from London without seeing the Mona Lisa .

If your favorite movie in high school was Moulin Rouge! or Amélie , spend time walking around Montmartre.

If you love Monet, Van Gogh, and Degas, go to the Musée d’Orsay for the best collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings in the world.

If you’re a die-hard Doors fan, go see Jim Morrison’s grave at Père Lachaise Cemetery.

Beyond that, I think how you should explore Paris depends on your travel experience level. If you’re an experienced traveler, you can handle exploring by metro on your own.

If you’d like something a bit easier, or if you or your companion have limited mobility, a hop-on-hop-off Paris bus tour is a great option for getting around. These bus tours take you from attraction to attraction and let Paris unfold in front of you.

Bonus: if you book the full day tour from London to Paris by train , they include a hop-on hop-off bus tour for free.

Perfect Itinerary for One Day in Paris

Book an early train from London to Paris and a late train back to London.

You have two options:

1) You can book London to Paris train tickets here.

2) You can book a day tour that includes train tickets and a hop-on-hop-off bus tour in Paris here.

From that point on, this is my idea of a nice Paris itinerary that takes in a lot of the central sights. It’s a particularly good option for a first-time Paris visitor.

The pointy back end of Notre-Dame Cathedral framed by tree branches.

Morning: Notre-Dame and Vicinity

Arrive at Gare du Nord and transfer to the metro line 4 toward Mairie de Montrouge. Get off at Saint Michel Notre-Dame.

Stop for a quick coffee if you’d like and go see Notre-Dame. (Unfortunately, Notre-Dame has been closed since the awful fire. But you can still admire it from the outside.)

Next, walk east to Île Saint-Louis and wander the streets. If you’re feeling really indulgent, get an ice cream at Berthillon ! This ice cream is fantastic and world-famous.

Head north toward the Hotel de Ville and explore the streets of the Marais, heading further upward. Stop by Pierre Hermé for macarons — they’re the best in the city. Just be sure to eat them the same day. Good macarons aren’t built to last.

A few images of cider in a bowl, a buckwheat Galette with an egg poking out the center, and a salted caramel crepe with ice cream melting on it.

12:00 PM: Lunch at Breizh Cafe in the Marais

Breizh Cafe is home to outstanding Brittany-style buckwheat galettes and sumptuous crepes. There are several locations in Paris now; you want the Le Marais location at 109 Rue Vieille-du-Temple.

I usually get a galette with egg, cheese, and artichoke followed by a salted caramel crepe for dessert, along with their delicious homemade cider.

Make a reservation in advance if possible ( they finally do online reservations, but only two weeks in advance ); if not, try showing up when they open at 11:00 AM.

Alternative lunch: Walk up to Rue des Roisiers and wait in line at L’As du Falafel, one of the best cheap lunches in Paris. Order your falafel and walk a few streets away to Place des Vosges, where you can enjoy your falafel “sur l’herbe” or sitting on a bench.

Alternative gluten-free lunch: As I update this post in 2023, I realize that neither galettes nor falafel are ideal for gluten-free travelers. If that’s the case for you, find any adorable Parisian-looking cafe in the Marais and dive into their menu. You can always find meat, fish, or an omelette with vegetables.

My friend Jodi creates extremely well-researched gluten-free travel cards that communicate what you can and can’t eat in the local language. Here’s the French card. Well worth the investment!

The Musee d'Orsay, set in a train station with a rounded roof with skylights and a big clock on one wall.

Afternoon: Museum of Your Choice

Visit one of Paris’s world-class museums in the afternoon. Since you’re visiting Paris on a day trip and have limited time, I urge you to buy skip-the-line tickets in advance to avoid long lines, and be sure to double-check which museums are open that day.

The Centre Pompidou (Beaubourg) is a short walk from Breizh Cafe; if you’re a fan of modern art and architecture, this is a great choice. (If not, I’d go somewhere traditional instead.) There’s a fabulous view of the Eiffel Tower from the top, too. Buy skip-the-line tickets to Centre Pompidou here.

Another option? Head to the Louvre and see the Mona Lisa  (La Joconde) for yourself! The Louvre can be overwhelming; I recommend limiting yourself to two or three sections of the museum (I happen to love the golden Gallerie d’Appolon).  Buy skip-the-line tickets to the Louvre here.

My favorite Paris museum is the Musée d’Orsay, which is home to incredible Impressionist paintings in a fantastic old train station. Buy skip-the-line tickets to the Musée d’Orsay here. Don’t forget to get a photo from the second level.

Not a museum fan? Check out a cool neighborhood instead! My top recommendations are Montmartre (18th arrondissement) or St. Germain (6th arrondissement). Pick out a destination in each — perhaps Sacré-Coeur in Montmartre, or Les Deux Magots in St. Germain — but spend the bulk of your time wandering.

The Eiffel Tower in front of a row of cannons in the Trocadero Gardens, a cloudy sunset behind it.

Late afternoon: See the Eiffel Tower up close

How you see it depends on how much time you have. You can take a hop-on-hop-off cruise down the River Seine if that interests you. I recommend taking the Metro Line 9 to Trocadéro for the most stunning surprise view of the tower when you turn the corner. From there you can take all the photos you want.

I do not recommend actually climbing the Eiffel Tower. Why? Because you won’t be able to see it in your photos! But if you insist, once again I recommend buying skip-the-line Eiffel Tower tickets due to your limited time. Make sure it includes the summit.

Instead, you can enjoy the most wonderful view from the Trocadéro Gardens and on the other side, Champs de Mars, a big long park.

I recommend getting a good view from the nearby Arc de Triomphe. It’s a 20-minute metro ride on the 6 from Bir-Hakeim/Champs de Mars Tour Eiffel to Charles de Gaulle Étoile, five-minute cab ride, or 30-minute walk.

Climb the Arc (once again…yep, skip-the-line Arc de Triomphe tickets are best here) and enjoy views of the Eiffel Tower as well as down the Champs-Elysées to Place de la Concorde.

A free alternative is to go to the rooftop of the Galeries Lafayette department store in the 9th. It’s not quite as close as the Arc, but it’s free to visit with a fabulous view — and a great way to experience your Paris sunset. Just don’t get sucked into the shopping!

Yellow and blue Eurostar trains lined up at Gare du Nord in Paris.

75 minutes before your train: arrive at Gare du Nord

You have to go through immigration again at Gare du Nord, so it’s wise to arrive 75 minutes before your departure.

If you’re coming back from the Eiffel Tower, your best route is to take the 9 from Trocadéro to Mairie de Montreuil and switch to the 4, taking it to Gare du Nord. It should take around 35 minutes.

Enjoy that high-speed Eurostar train ride back to London, awash in your Paris memories. Now would be an excellent time to dive into those macarons you procured earlier!

Do’s and Don’t’s For a Day Trip to Paris from London

I’m not going to begrudge you for doing what you think is best for yourself, but here are some tips:

Do keep track of the time change. Paris is one hour ahead of London.

Do research opening times in advance. Especially so for museums. The Louvre and Centre Pompidou are closed Tuesdays, while the Musée d’Orsay and Musée Rodin are closed Mondays, to start.

Do say, “Bonjour, madame!” or “Bonjour, monsieur!” whenever you enter a shop or restaurant. This is considered basic manners in France and if you don’t, you may be treated rudely in return.

Don’t leave central Paris. This tacks on a lot of time to what is already too short of a trip. Versailles, for example, is just outside the city center but can easily eat up more than half a day. That also goes for Chartres, Giverny, Reims, the Loire Valley, the beaches of Normandy, Disneyland Paris, and other day trips from Paris.

Do guard against pickpockets. If you use a purse, I recommend using a black crossbody purse that zips shut , preferably made of leather or faux leather. Keep your hand on it. You can also keep valuables in the hidden pocket in a  Speakeasy Travel Supply scarf  — I guarantee nobody will pickpocket you there!

Don’t leave love locks anywhere. They’re damaging to structures and your lock will be removed anyway. Just enjoy the city of love without vandalizing it in the process.

Don’t go to the top of the Eiffel Tower.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. This may seem like shocking advice, but when you’re on top of the Eiffel Tower you can’t see the Eiffel Tower.

It’s like going to the top of the Empire State Building in New York — the most iconic building will be missing from your photos.

Definitely go to the base of the Eiffel Tower and the Trocadero Gardens for the best views, but if you want a good view from a building, I recommend the top of the Arc de Triomphe (close proximity), the rooftop of Galeries Lafayette department store in the 9th (a bit further away), or the top of the Sacré Coeur in Montmartre (furthest away but sweeping views over the whole city).

Do not, under any circumstances, forget an umbrella! Paris’s weather is similar to London’s, but only London gets the overcast weather fame. The weather changes quickly in Paris and rain can come out of nowhere, even on an otherwise sunny day. This travel umbrella is small enough to pack away but strong enough to hold its shape on a windy day.

Kate squatting and giving two thumbs up next to the inverted glass pyramid at the Louvre and giggling with glee.

What to Wear on a Day Trip to Paris

Parisians have a well-earned reputation for being among the best dressed in Europe. So what should you wear on a day trip to Paris?

It depends on the season, but my go-to outfit is a nice top or sweater, slim or skinny dark jeans, a faux leather moto jacket ( this one is similar to mine) or sleek winter coat, and a beautiful scarf or pashmina ( Speakeasy Travel Supply makes gorgeous scarves with a secret hidden pocket — perfect for Paris!).

For shoes, I recommend a pair of black flats with good arch support (I swear by black Abeo flats from the Walking Company ). If it’s cold, you might prefer  a pair of black boots .

My go-to stylish sneakers are these white leather Cole Haan sneaks . Top your look off with tasteful makeup, nice jewelry, and a pair of dark sunglasses .

You might enjoy dressing up a bit, especially if it’s warmer out. Wearing a nice dress makes for better photos and could earn you more cordial treatment from locals or even get you mistaken for being local.

What not to wear: Shorts, athletic sneakers, baseball caps, old-looking t-shirts, and anything with a university name on it will immediately brand you as a foreigner anywhere in Europe, but especially so in Paris. I recommend leaving these items at home.

How to Plan a Day Trip from London to Paris

day trip london to disneyland paris

Sharing is caring:

A day trip from London to Paris is a lot of fun, and thanks to the Eurostar train, it is absolutely doable. While I highly recommend spending more time in Paris if you can, even one day is worth it and you are guaranteed to have a wonderful time.

I actually did this trip in reverse a while back (a day trip from Paris to London) and it was amazing! But since I actually lived in Paris, I’m going to talk about how to spend a day there rather than in London because Paris is my area of expertise. 🙂

Day Trip from London to Paris

Although one day isn’t nearly enough time to see and do absolutely everything in Paris, it’s definitely worth the trip. Even just one day in Paris is a magical experience, and it will give you a taste of all that the City of Light has to offer!

Here is how you can plan an amazing day trip from London to Paris:

How to Get There

The BEST way to get to Paris to London is the super-fast Eurostar train. The Eurostar makes the journey from St. Pancras Station in London to Gare du Nord in Paris in under 2.5 hours, and it’s a fast and comfortable ride.

Driving or taking a bus from London to Paris takes six to eight hours, depending on traffic. And while flying only takes a little over an hour, you have to factor in getting to and from the airport (both London and Paris have airports far outside the city center.)

With the Eurostar, you get from city center to city center with no hassle.

To maximize your time in Paris, I recommend taking the first train of the day from St. Pancras in London (5:40 AM) and leaving Paris on the last train (9:13 PM.)

You can check booking and ticket fares on the Eurostar website.  Round-trip tickets from London start at £58 (around $77) and you will get the cheapest prices booking far in advance. Last-minute bookings can get extremely pricy.

What can you do on a day trip from London to Paris?

In one day, you can do and see a lot in Paris! But I don’t recommend trying to cram in all the major sights, because you might end up feeling burnt out and miss the real magic of Paris.

Instead, I recommend picking two or three major points of interest to check out, or choosing a neighborhood or area that interest you the most.

A few of my favorite areas to explore in Paris are:

  • Latin Quarter: Notre Dame, Shakespeare & Company, and Luxembourg Garden
  • Montmartre: Sacré-Cœur and Moulin Rouge
  • 1st arrondissement: The Louvre or Musée d’Orsay, Angelina Tearoom, and Tuileries Gardens

Not only are these neighborhoods packed with some of the most popular tourist sites, they are also perfect for just strolling around and appreciating that quintessential Parisian charm.

Pop into the chic boutiques along the Rue Saint-Honoré in the 1st arrondissement. Stop into a quintessential Parisian cafe in Montmartre to sip a coffee and people-watch. Or wander around the ancient streets of the Latin Quarter filled with old bookstores and bakeries.

Later in the day, I recommend heading over to the Eiffel Tower. It’s easily accessible by Metro from anywhere in the city, or if you’re not too far away, you can take a nice walk along the Seine to get there. (Paris is a very walkable city.)

I would personally skip climbing the Eiffel Tower – the lines and crowds are horrendous, and the view isn’t great because it’s the only place in the city where you  can’t  see the Eiffel Tower!

Instead, relax on the Champ de Mars and enjoy the view of the tower from there. You can even bring a picnic with you if the weather is nice!

What can’t you do on a day trip from London to Paris?

Some of the things you CAN’T do on a day trip from London to Paris:

  • Visit Versailles, unless it is the ONLY thing you do. While Versailles is only about an hour outside Paris, seeing everything will easily take up an entire day.
  • Visit Disneyland Paris. Like Versailles, it’s about an hour outside of Paris, and you really need to block out a full day for it. There are direct Eurostar trains from London to Disneyland Paris that you can take if you want to do a Disneyland Paris day trip.
  • Visit basically anywhere outside of central Paris: Giverny, Reims, Chantilly, etc.

Anywhere outside of the city is best saved for when you have a longer stay in Paris!

Travel tips for a day trip from London to Paris

1. The Metro can get you anywhere in Paris. When you arrive at the Gare du Nord, you can easily buy Metro tickets and head to your first destination of the day.

2. While the Metro is great, Paris is also a city meant for walking! You can walk almost anywhere. Won’t have access to cellular data while in Paris? Load up Google Maps onto your phone beforehand so you can easily navigate around!

3. Dress to blend in. Don’t wear t-shirts, shorts, flip-flops, etc. on your day trip to Paris.

4. Be alert for pickpockets and scam artists  – especially in the busy tourist areas. If someone approaches you or gets in your personal space, ignore them and quickly move away.

5. Don’t rush your visit or try to cram in too many experiences in one day. The beauty of a day trip to Paris is that you get to enjoy a little slice of Parisian life. So take a stroll along the Seine, get lost wandering down little side streets, and stop into a cafe or the nearest Ladurée for a macaron.

6. Pack an umbrella! Sudden rain showers are common in Paris, and it can start pouring in an instant on a seemingly nice day. Always be prepared with a small travel-sized umbrella in your bag.

7. Bring a portable charger . The last thing you want is your cell phone dying in the midst of taking the perfect picture of the Eiffel Tower. I bring  this portable charger with me everywhere I go and it has been a total lifesaver!

8. Make sure that you arrive back at Gare du Nord at least one hour before your train’s departure time. You will have to go through immigration, which can take a good bit of time.

Enjoy you day trip from London to Paris!

A WOMAN has revealed how she  spent just £20 travelling to Tenerife for the day - and even had time for an afternoon at the beach.

Last year, Danielle Mclean, 35, from  Edinburgh , took herself to Disneyland Paris for just one day.

Danielle Mclean, 35, from Edinburgh, took herself to Disneyland Paris for just one day

While a day trip to Europe may seem hugely ambitious, for Danielle it's almost like second nature.

Over the last few years, Danielle has been on her fair share of European day trips , so it's safe to say she has learned a thing or two about exploring Brit-favourite holiday hotspots in hardly any time at all.

Last December, Danielle travelled to Disneyland Paris for just one day after booking return flights from Edinburgh to Charles de Gaulle Airport for £65.

Not only did Danielle manage to book cheap flights , but she also kept other costs down too, including nabbing a cheeky lift to the airport.

Danielle told Sun Online Travel: "I got to Charles de Gaulle Airport at 9.20am, and Disneyland Paris is only a ten-minute train ride from there.

"But by the time I got through to the train station at 10am, there wasn’t another train until 11.20."

Despite the lengthy wait, Danielle still managed to make it to the French theme park at 11.30am where she met her parents.

Danielle added: "It’s doable to do in a day. I downloaded the Disneyland App, and I planned out the rides I wanted to go on."

During her time in the park, Danielle managed to board rides like It’s a Small World , the Teacups, Dumbo, Autopia, Thunder Mountain and the Tower of Terror.

Each ride took approximately 25 minutes, including the time it took to queue to get on the ride.

After spending a day at the theme park , Danielle left the park at 6pm.

Despite her flight being at 10pm, Danielle made it through airport security in next-to-no-time.

She landed back at Edinburgh Airport at 10.30pm and said she was "in bed by midnight".

Because Danielle had to leave the park fairly early, she missed out on one key part of a Disneyland Paris trip - the fireworks.

She added: "By leaving the theme park early, you're missing out on the fireworks - but I'd still recommend a day trip."

On her day trip to Disneyland Paris, Danielle spent less than £300 in total, with her biggest outlay being a two-park ticket, which cost £75.

Other costs included £35 for a return train ticket from the Charles de Gaulle Airport as well as souvenir expenses like a keyring.

She shared details of her cheeky trip on her YouTube Channel where she revealed she'd do another day-trip to Disneyland Paris in the future .

While some Brit holidaymakers may find a day trip daunting, this wasn't the case for Danielle who explained that she "finds  flights " easy.

Danielle previously told Sun Online Travel: " I find flights easy, but buses and trains stress me out."

On her holidays to  New York  and LA, Danielle made sure to walk everywhere and said she was frequently stopped for directions by other holidaymakers.

The retail employee does find other aspects of trips to  Europe  somewhat taxing, she added: "I wouldn’t say I find day trips tiring - it’s more the language barrier that stresses me out."

Earlier this year, Danielle also went on a day-trip to Tenerife where she enjoyed warm temperatures and sea views.

The retail employee documents all her travel adventures on her YouTube Channel, Danielle UK .

Last year, a British woman revealed how she spent just £23  flying to Lanzarote for the day  - and even fit in some cocktails on the beach.
