Elland Road Stadium Tour

We are huge Leeds Utd fans and even though we have never been lucky enough to secure tickets for a 1st team Premier League match we try to see any match we can mainly Under 23 matches and Caribo Cup matches. We have wanted to do the Elland Road Tour for so long and again these are usually hard to book as they are limited and sell out quite quickly. The tour was absolutely amazing, so good to see behind the scenes and walk down the tunnel and see the changing rooms and our tour guide David was so good and entertaining providing a lot of information - would highly recommend

We were in the Norman Hunter suite for the Villa game yesterday. Although it was a poor game, the hospitality of the staff in the suite more than made up for it. The food was great and having the opportunity to talk to former players was wonderful. All of this pails into insignificance compared to how Alan Rumsey in Security looked after us though. My uncle was visiting from the USA. He's a lifelong Leeds fan who has never had the opportunity to visit Elland Road. As soon as Alan heard this, he went above and beyond to ensure the day was memorable. After the game, he took us up onto the TV gantry, down to pitch side and even got us a quick meet and greet with Jesse Marsch and Patrick Bamford who were more than happy to chat :-) Alan, I want to say a massive thank you on behalf of my uncle and I. Its people like you that make football clubs what they are and keep football special. You're one in a million and Leeds are lucky to have you!

What a great time. We went to Leeds vs. Southampton. Even though our seats weren’t the best, we had no problem seeing everything. The food outside the stadium was good and reasonably priced. Getting tickets to the game was very difficult. If you want to go, start working on it months in advance.

Great weekend treat in leeds hospitaliy for leeds v arsenal game.food and drink was excellent. Cant wait to go back and watch leeds in the premiership again in the new year. Martin and libby

Elland Road Stadium Tour

We had a great tour of the ground, our guide, Owen, was excellent, extremely informative, knowledgeable and funny. My husband who is a very loyal supporter was very pleased with the tour and myself and our daughter 12 years who are casual supporters also found it interesting. The tour lasted 90 minutes and the time flew by. Many thanks Owen (Oven!!!)

Me and the family had a box for the evening. Thanks to Mr ? Great atmosphere and views. Wow the leeds fans are something else! The noise that the Leeds fans can make is unbelievable and gets you fired up for the game. Top service from the staff, everythng was great. Never experienced anything like that in my life.

This used to be my favourite place in the city but this latest terrible owner has turned it into a tinpot venue. Radz has bought the ground and charged the club to do it up and increased prices for fans. Fails to buy players of any quality and loses money through mismanagement

Might not be the biggest, but it's certainly the best, incredible atmosphere, outstanding fans #ALAW #WACCOE

Went to visit a trade show recently so not here for the game. The whole place needs a good lick of paint, car park not easily sign posted and could do with a layer of Tarmac! That said the staff where professional and helpful, so full marks to them.

Not the best stadium and I was baffled as to why there was carpet in the away end but I was happy to be able to smoke during half time. The burger for £4 was so dry and hard to swallow and the bar staff were really slow. There was one steward/stand manager that was really friendly and allowed me to get a kitkat after serving had shut due to my sugar levels being low, he is the only reason I’m giving more than 2 stars

Elland Road

Elland Road

Club: Leeds United FC | Opening: 1897 | Capacity: 39,460 seats

History and description

Elland Road opened in 1897, however in the first years of its existence it was only used for rugby matches. In 1904 newly formed football club Leeds City moved into the ground, and in the following years the stadium got gradually expanded.

After in 1919 Leeds City got expelled from the Football League, the stadium was sold for a sum of £250 to newly formed Leeds United. Further renovations were made shortly after, but few changes were made in the decades following.

In 1956, a fire burned down the West Stand, and a new stand had to be built. With the successes of Leeds United in the 1960s and early 70s further renovations were made.

Elland Road achieved its record attendance in 1967 during an FA Cup match with Sunderland. A total of 57,892 supporters watched the game from the stands.

In the early 1990s, the club started a redevelopment program for the ground, which most notably included the rebuilding of the East Stand in 1993. At completion, the stand counted as the biggest cantilever stand in the world.

Elland Road was one of the playing venues of the Euro 1996 Championships, during which it hosted three group matches.

In the early 2000s, Leeds investigated a move to a brand new 55,000-stadium, however these plans were shelved after the club’s finances severely deteriorated. Only smaller renovations have been made to the stadium since.

Elland Road (Leeds)

Elland Road has been the home of Leeds United since their inception in 1919. The ground was originally opened in 1897 by Holbeck Rugby Club, who folded just seven years later.

The ground was then rented by Leeds City who played in the Football League, before they later folded in 1919. Elland Road was then taken over by Yorkshire Amateurs who sold it a year later to the newly formed Leeds United for £250.

Leeds United have played there ever since, with the stadium witnessing their glory years in the 1960s and 70s, as well as their most recent First Division win in 1992. The ground has undergone a number of renovations, with the most recent being in 2012 with the current capacity being 37,792. The record attendance of 57,892 was achieved during an FA Cup match with Sunderland in 1967.

Tenants: Leeds United ( Premier League )

Opened: 1897

Capacity: 37,792

Address: Elland Rd, Beeston, Leeds LS11 0ES

Elland Road was used as a neutral venue for FA Cup semi-final matches on nine occasions, the first being in 1910 between Barnsley and Everton. The last was in 1995 as Everton defeated Tottenham Hotspur 4-1.

England have played several friendly international matches in the stadium – a 3-3 draw with Sweden in 1995 being the first, a 2-1 loss to Italy in 2002 and a 2-0 win over Costa Rica. All three of Spain’s group matches at UEFA Euro 1996 were also held there, drawing 1-1 with Bulgaria and France before defeating Romania 2-1.

International Rugby League was also first played at Elland Road in 1921, as England defeated Wales 35-9. There have been a number of England and Great Britain internationals since held there, with a semi-final of the 2021 Rugby League World Cup also to be played in the stadium.

Hunslet Rugby League Football Club used Elland Road from 1983 until 1994, before moving to the South Leeds Stadium. Leeds Rhions have also used the ground several times, including the World Club Challenge in 2005, 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Elland Road Stadium Tour – Leeds United

Elland Road is the 20th largest stadium in the UK and home to Leeds United.  Reasons to take a stadium tour of Elland Road;

  • You’re a Leeds United fan
  • Top Yorkshire football team
  • 20th largest stadium in UK
  • Historic Euro 96 stadium
  • You’ve seen the stadium in the movies

I was staying at a hotel in Leeds city center and walked to Elland Road.  As a matter of fact, I stayed in the DoubleTree by Hilton which is where the Leeds United players stay before matchday.

Elland Road Stadium Tour - Leeds United - Location

Elland Road stadium is in the Holbeck district of Leeds around 2 miles from the city center.  The M621 motorway runs adjacent to the stadium.

How to get from Leeds Train Station to Elland Road

Firstly, you can walk on a mostly pedestrianised path to the stadium which takes around 40 minutes.  Alternatively, you can take bus 51 or 52 from the city center.  Buses leave from Vicar Lane which is a 7 minute walk from the train station.  They conveniently stop right outside the Billy Bremner bar from where you can also return to the city center.

Billy Bremner Statue

Elland Road Stadium Tour - Leeds United - Billy Bremner Statue

Billy Bremner is a Leeds United legend.  Originally from Scotland, he moved to Leeds in 1960 and became the Leeds United captain.  An interesting fact is that his father encouraged him to move to England to avoid the religious rivalry between Celtic and Rangers .  With Billy Bremner as captain Leeds won the League twice as well as the, FA Cup, League Cup and Fairs Cup (Europa League).  To this day, this is the most successful period in Leeds United history.  Lastly, if you visit the Scottish Football Museum in Hampden Park you’ll see his name in the Hall of Fame.

Don Revie Statue

Elland Road Stadium Tour - Leeds United - Don Revie Statue

Opposite the East Stand is the Don Revie statue.  Who was Don Revie?  Don Revie was Leeds United manager when Billy Bremner was captain during the glory years.  As well as the Don Revie statue, the Leeds United Kop is also named after Don Revie.  Finally, there’s a movie filmed at Elland Road about Brian Clough called the Damned United which features Don Revie as well as Billy Bremner.

Billy Bremner Bar – Stadium Tour Meeting Point

Elland Road Stadium Tour - Leeds United - Billy Bremner Bar

The stadium tour kicks off from the Billy Bremner bar.  If you arrive a little early you can buy yourself a drink and admire the memorabilia on display.  Take note of the Billy Bremner mural where he’s sat on a wall beside the dugout.  This wall still exists and you can recreate this iconic moment yourself during the tour.  Finally, I recommend you use the bathroom here before the tour starts!

Elland Road Leeds

Elland Road Stadium Tour - Leeds United

The Elland Road capacity is 37,890, as a result it’s the 20th largest stadium in the UK.  It’s made up of the Don Revie, John Charles as well as the East and South stands.  Elland Road famously hosted 3 Group B games in Euro 96.  Did you know Elland Road used to be a rugby stadium?  As a matter of fact, there’s a valuable painting hanging in the President’s Suite at Twickenham which features Elland Road.

Elland Road in the Movies

Elland Road has featured in 2 popular movies.  Firstly, The Damned United which is about Brian Clough’s infamous spell at Leeds United.  Secondly, Elland Road featured in the Oscar winning movie, The King’s Speech .  Although the real speech took place at Ibrox in Glasgow the speech in the movie was filmed at Elland Road.

Director’s Box

Elland Road Stadium Tour - Leeds United - Director's Box

The comfiest seats with arguably the best views of the pitch are in the Director’s box.  You’re welcome to sit and pose for pictures here.  Imagine sitting here when Leeds United won the league.  Another interesting moment in Elland Road history is when the Queen visited in 1977 as part of her jubilee celebrations.  Additionally, the rock band, Queen have also performed at Elland Road.

Media Section

Above the Director’s Box and much of the John Charles stand is the Elland Road media section.   An interesting fact is that this is the biggest media section in British football.  Why do Leeds United have such a large media section?  When the stadium was inspected for the Euro 96 competition, the media section was not large enough.  Leeds did not want to miss out on being a host city therefore built a huge section for the world media to cover Euro 96.  This extended media section remains today.

Champions League Staircase

Elland Road Stadium Tour - Leeds United - Champions League Staircase

The biggest success Leeds United had in Europe was in 1968 when they won the Europa League.  However it’s the run to the Champions League semi finals which they are most remembered for.  As part of the tour you’ll walk a staircase full of memorabilia from this famous cup run.

Leeds United Museum

Elland Road Stadium Tour - Leeds United Museum

At the bottom of the Champions League staircase is the Leeds United museum.  Here, you’ll find the hall of fame as well as famous players shirts.  There’s even a Billy Bremner Scotland shirt as well as a Jackie Charlton England shirt.  Additionally, there are gifts from other teams which have visited Elland Road.  I’ve visited Partizan Belgrade so I was drawn to a gift on display from this club.

Away Team Dressing Room

Elland Road Stadium Tour - Leeds United - Away Team Dressing Room

The away team dressing room is dull and uninspiring.  However, I must say, it’s not bad!  The worst away team dressing room I’ve seen is at Newcastle United stadium .

Home Team Dressing Room

Elland Road Stadium Tour - Leeds United - Home Team Dressing Room

The Leeds United dressing room is narrow and compact.  Moreover, it’s homely with the Leeds United banners.  Due to its compact design, there’s a true feeling of team spirit.  As well as a compact team dressing room, Leeds United also have access to excellent bathroom, warm up and physio facilities.

Players Tunnel

Elland Road Stadium Tour - Leeds United - Players Tunnel

Leeds United intimidate their opponents in the players tunnel with huge images of their current squad.  Opposite the image is the Leeds United honors list.  This is a list of all the trophies they have won.  For me, it was especially interesting to see the successes of Leeds United.  Not just the 3 famous league wins but also the occasions when they have won the lower leagues.

Flash Interview Room

Elland Road Stadium Tour - Leeds United - Flash Interview Rooms

Adjacent to the players tunnel are the flash interview rooms.  They are here so the media can grab the players and give them a quick interview.  The interview must happen in front of the boards for sponsorship reasons.  Due to the fact you always see these on TV, these are an incredibly popular photo spot.

Pitchside and Dugout

Elland Road Stadium Tour - Leeds United - Pitchside and Dugout

You’re invited to sit in the dugout when you reach pitchside.  So why did I choose to sit on a wall adjacent to the dugout?  Because there’s a painting of Billy Bremner sat here in the Billy Bremner bar at the start of the tour.  Don’t miss it!  A nice touch here is that there are complimentary Leeds United flags for the kids.

When the East Stand was completed in 1992 it was the biggest Cantilever stand in the world.  This stand alone had a capacity of 17,000 spectators.  The capacity has since been reduced but it’s still one of the largest stands in English football nonetheless.

Leeds United Legends Club

Elland Road Stadium Tour - Leeds United - Legends Club

The last stop on the Leeds United stadium tour is the Legends Club.  Not only does this give a wonderful stadium view but you also learn about the Legend’s Club facilities.  If you buy Legend’s Club tickets for a match you’ll receive a true VIP experience.  All food and drink is included with the ticket.  In addition, Leeds United legends such as Danny Mills, Ian Harte, Gary Kelly and Lee Bowyer regularly frequent the club.  As a result, you can watch the match, enjoy the food as well as meet and greet Leeds legends.  Of course, the legends are also happy to take selfies with you.  As part of the stadium tour, you see the facilities but unfortunately no legends are there.

Enjoy the Elland Road Stadium Tour

Elland Road Stadium Tour - Leeds United - History

The Elland Road stadium tour is an excellent experience.  Unfortunately, tours are not so frequent therefore you can’t just turn up and take one.  But they’re most likely to be scheduled on match days.  Check the schedule and book your stadium tour online .  Alternatively, why not watch a Leeds United football match?

Other famous stadiums in the north of England include, Hillsborough , Anfield , Etihad and St James’ Park .

elland road festival tours

When travelling to Russia, there are many hidden treasures that tourists may miss while seeking for engaging and authentic attractions. One such tourist hot-spot is the Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF)- among the oldest and most popular of its kind. Incepted in 1935, the festival gained popularity in the late 50s and 60s when a new generation of Russian directors were inspired by their nation’s woes and victories in the previous decades. As a true platform for the cultivation and recognition of artistic talent, the Moscow International Film Festival paved the way for many filmmakers who later became known throughout the world: Istvan Szabo and Kaneto Shindo, Krzysztof Kieslowski and Aki Kaurismaki, Kohei Oguri and Humberto Solas.

Some highlights from the 34 th annual festival in 2012 include the American film director Tim Burton receiving the honorary prize for contribution to world cinema. The diverse program included more than 200 films from 50 countries around the world. The panel of judges for the competitive portion of the festival included internationally renowned directors and actors from all over the globe.

The Moscow International Film Festival is held annually during the summer, and is sure to be an interesting attraction while visiting Russia’s capital in the warm months.
