A Faction represents one of the various political organizations, empires, federations, and groups from the galaxy and across all different universes. For example, the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance exists alongside the United Federation of Planets, the Terran Empire of the "Mirror, Mirror" universe, and the Cardassian Union.

star trek timelines how to get dilithium

With all of the different factions, it's no surprise many of them have frequent ideological and political disputes. As you become involved with various Factions through Episode storylines, you'll need to decide which sides to favor. Furthermore, each side will provide unique rewards upon reaching the maximum level of influence with them.

The Scan function of your starship allows for occasional daily scans to collect free salvage, which are items that can be used to progress your game in various ways. Rewards may include Faction Mission tokens and additional credits.

In STAR TREK TIMELINES, you assemble a dream team from Star Trek, including the original series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Enterprise. As a Captain, you'll direct the action and choose crewmembers to tackle any given dangerous or tense situation.

As a roleplaying game, STAR TREK TIMELINES features characters with Skills [1], Levels [2], and Equipment [3]. However, your crew also have stats like Star Rating [4], Details [5], and level-cap advancement [6].

Star Rating [4] reflects the rarity of a particular crew member in STAR TREK TIMELINES, and roughly equates to their ultimate skill potential. More stars means overall higher skills, like Enterprise-D Picard's skills in Command, Diplomacy, and Science.

Each crew member has four Equipment [3] slots. Giving your crew the appropriate Equipment will raise their Skills [1] and capabilities in both Away Missions and Starship Battles. Once all four equipment slots are full, a crew can be Advanced [6], which raises their level-cap and opens up four new equipment slots. By improving crew equipment, you're able to increase their stats and overcome even more difficult challenges.

Your Daily Missions reset once per day, and include currency and item rewards for simply playing STAR TREK TIMELINES. They're also a good way to jump around game activities during quick play sessions.

You can chat with other players, send private messages, or talk with your fleet from anywhere in the game. Making new friends and talking with other players is a great way to earn more rewards and even learn some tips and tricks.

star trek timelines how to get dilithium

You can choose your name and portrait at an early Captain level. A small number of portraits are available to begin. It's possible to earn a crew member's portrait as your own Captain portrait by leveling-up that crew member.

Captain Experience & Levels Gain Captain experience and rise in levels to unlock new game features. You’ll unlock new game features like additional Captain portraits, access to Fleets (player guilds), and additional battle stations for your starships.

New Crew & Equipment To get new crew and equipment, you can buy and spend dilithium as well as earn and spend credits. Almost everything in STAR TREK TIMELINES can be earned by spending credits on crew and item packs, but dilithium packs have a better chance of dropping rare items, crew, and starships schematics. Captains earn credits by completing conflicts, fighting in ship battles and completing shuttle missions.

In addition, special "themed" packs have higher chances of dropping specific types of items — for instance, a Klingon or Romulan crew and item pack.

You can also complete Episodes to earn new crew and equipment. If you conclude an Episode in favor of a particular faction, you can recruit a crew member associated with that faction, like Worf (Klingon) or Bones (Federation).

 • Gray (Common): 1-star maximum
 • Green (Uncommon): 2-star maximum
 • Blue (Rare): 3-star maximum
 • Purple (Super Rare): 4-star maximum
 • Gold (Legendary): 5-star maximum

Crew Advancement & Item Rarity Just like crew, items also have rarity. An item’s rarity is expressed by the number of stars on the item’s bottom border. For example, look at Picard’s favorite variety of tea, Earl Grey:

Each new crew member joins your starship with one star, at level one, and with an starting level-cap of 10. So where does item rarity come in? Let’s take a look at Enterprise-D Picard.

Advancing crew, like Enterprise-D Picard, requires all four items, which are consumed when the crew is advanced:

star trek timelines how to get dilithium

At each level of advancement, Enterprise-D Picard will either need a more rare Earl Grey tea or even a new item altogether. This is true of any crew in STAR TREK TIMELINES, and so you’ll often have several Earl Grey teas or Type 2 Phasers in your inventory.

Many of the most common items in the game are combined to make rarer items as well, which is another reason you’ll sometimes earn (or even want) several duplicate items. It can take quite a combinations of items to make a 3- or 5-star Earl Grey.

Starship Battles are real-time conflicts between two starships and their respective crew. Before each battle, as Captain, you assign battle stations from your pool of crew. Each crew, when placed in a battle station, is able to temporarily increase the tactical capabilities of your starship. Currently, this is represented by three core stats: Damage, Accuracy, and Evasion.

star trek timelines how to get dilithium

To be victorious, Captains must choose the right crew for each respective battle, and that can change depending on whether you're battling a Borg Cube or a Klingon Bird of Prey. Sometimes, your starship may need more damage for the heavily armored starships. And other times you may require incredible accuracy to hit more nimble vessels.

star trek timelines how to get dilithium

Winning a Starship Battle earns you Captain and Crew experience, including credits to spend on upgrading crew or purchasing packs from the Time Portal.

Each Away Mission and Starship Battle also has three difficulty levels: Normal, Elite, and Epic. Each difficulty will increase both your challenge and rewards, and can only be unlocked by achieving 3-stars on the previous difficulty. You can earn 3-stars on Away Missions by earning all Rare Rewards. And to earn 3-stars on Starship Battles, you typically must win without losing shields or by defeating your opponent with a specific amount of time.

New Starships Looking for a new starship? Captains need the appropriate number of schematics unique to constructing each starship. Each vessel will have a required total number of schematics, varied by the ship's rarity and overall battle power. Schematics can be obtained in item packs at the Time Portal, and also by completing various missions from Episodes.

Each crew member can have up to 3 skills from the six areas of expertise: Science, Diplomacy, Engineering, Command, Medical, and Security. As Captain, you must assign three crew members to overcome each Away Mission's skill challenge nodes [1] and successfully complete your mission.

Structurally, an Away Mission is like a branching storyline where each challenge node [1] is both a decision and barrier your crew must overcome:

star trek timelines how to get dilithium

As you build your Away Team, any skills they posses that are required for the chosen Away Mission will cause any corresponding nodes [1] to be highlighted gold.

Each challenge node [1] has an associated skill (Diplomacy, Science, etc.) By default, crew with higher skill values will increase your chances at success. However, each sequential challenge will wear down a crew member, reducing their effectiveness in subsequent challenges until they rest one turn.

star trek timelines how to get dilithium

If you fail the challenge on any node other than the final one, it will cause your final skill challenge to be more difficult. Overall success or failure on an Away Mission is determined at the final challenge, so try to save your best officers for the final challenge.

Every Away Mission has a selection of Suggested Traits [2]. Each crew member has their own unique collection of Traits reflecting their personality and background. These include racial associations (e.g. the Klingon Trait) as well as Traits associated with particular jobs like Pilot or Astrophysicist, and even attitudes like Innovator.

Traits provide boosts on certain nodes [1], typically ones with Rare Rewards as noted by the star symbol [3] below a node. For a chance at earning a Rare Reward, your crew must have a high enough skill to achieve a critical success on the node. Once you've earned a Rare Reward the star symbol will disappear, noting the reward has been acquired.

star trek timelines how to get dilithium

Aside from Rare Rewards, completing Away Missions can earn you credits, experience, equipment, and training items. Moreover, earning all of the Rare Rewards available on a specific Away Mission will result in an award of 3 stars. As you progress through STAR TREK TIMELINES it will only become more important to balance the progression of your crew with the growing challenges of each new Episode, whether it's Starship Battles or Away Missions.

star trek timelines how to get dilithium

Upon winning an Away Mission you'll often receive equipment for your crew, Captain and crew experience, Training Programs to further level-up your crew, and credits. Other rewards can include Starship Schematics and Transmissions to complete faction missions, which themselves can give the above items.

There are three difficulty levels for Away Missions: Normal, Elite, and Epic. Each level presents higher skill node challenges and also better rewards. To unlock Elite and Epic difficulties, replay an Away Mission to unlock all Rare Rewards.

Warp 1 & Warp 10 Once you’ve earned 3-stars on an Away Mission or Starship Battle, you can return to them in the Episode screen via the Galaxy Map and use the Warp 1 and Warp 10 buttons. You can also use the Crew Management screen to tap on any empty and unlocked item slots for a list of away missions, starship battles, and faction missions that give said item as a reward.

Warp 1 will instantly play through a 3-star Away Mission or Starship Battle one time, as if you had successfully played through it. Warping costs chronitons, but in exchange you will acquire Captain experience, items, and credits. Warping will not earn your crew members any experience points, however.

star trek timelines how to get dilithium

Warp 10 is similar to Warp 1, except it automatically plays through the Away Mission or Starship Battle ten times successfully in the background. Be careful, however, as Warp 10 also costs 10x the amount of chronitons that Warp 1 does.

Star Trek Timelines: How to Play It for Free

Posted by: BlueStacks Content Team

Editor’s Rating:

star trek timelines how to get dilithium

Star Trek Timelines is one of those mobile games that can be sped up with real currency, but that can also be played at a competitive level without spending a dime. In other words, if you want to have fun with Star Trek characters and themes, but aren’t willing to crack open your piggy bank for it, you most definitely can. How awesome is that?

Star Trek Timelines: How to Play It for Free

Although most ships, characters, and items can be accessed by F2P players, doing so naturally requires more time and patience than in the case of those who pay for progress. It is possible though and we’re about to teach you the ropes.

Dilithium Premium Currency: Can You Get Any for Free?

There are a few types of currency you can use in Star Trek Timelines, but the most valuable of them is, by far, Dilithium. Unfortunately, Dilithium is not free… for the most part, at least. Like in other F2P games, you can get some premium currency without paying for it in cash, but, in Star Trek Timelines, this is especially difficult and does not happen often.

Star Trek Timelines: How to Play It for Free

The only way to get Dilithium in this mobile strategy game is to complete an achievement that asks you to “immortalize” characters. To immortalize a character, you have to rank them up to their maximum number of stars (such as 2/2 for Uncommon characters), level them to 100, and equip them with a full set of gear.

Star Trek Timelines: How to Play It for Free

Needless to say that the task is no easy feat. You get 100 Dilithium for the first time you do this and it only gets more difficult from there. The next iteration for the achievement is at 10 immortalized crew members, followed by 25, 50, 75, 100, and so on, all the way up to 600 crew.

Fortunately, you don’t really need Dilithium to excel at this game. Just a lot of patience. Furthermore, immortalizing a character brings additional benefits, too. For one, you can always “freeze” them instead of dismissing them, which allows you to summon them back when needed.

Dilithium Spending Guide for F2P Players

When you do get your hands on some Dilithium as an F2P player, you might have a difficult time spending it. You’ve worked so hard to get it that you don’t really want to part with it for anything in the world. Alas, however, currency is made for spending and Dilithium is no different.

We recommend that, as soon as you’ve raised 750 Dilithium, you use it to unlock a third shuttle. This is one of the few things you can’t obtain without premium currency and will significantly increase your ability to farm items, XP, and Faction events.

Star Trek Timelines: How to Play It for Free

We also recommend that you don’t spend Dilithium on credits, speeding your shuttles, buying ships , unlocking premium pulls, or refreshing gauntlet heroes. And whatever you do, stay way way (way!) away from packs that claim to give you “best chance at X hero/ship/item”. They are simply a waste of money (99.9% of the time).

Get into the Right Mindset

To be a successful F2P player in Star Trek Timelines, you have to be two things – active and patient. You have to be patient because it will always take you longer to achieve something than it would if you spent money on it and you have to be active because this is how you make up for not being able to use any Dilithium.

Play Star Trek Timelines on BlueStacks!

Star Trek Timelines: How to Play It for Free

Going from Captain Nobody to Captain Picard in this game is a marathon, rather than a sprint. You can expect to play it for months before you truly feel satisfied with your fleet and crew, so you should settle in and only commit to it if you think the game and theme are fun enough to make it worth the wait.

The good news is that, as long as you’re dedicated to this game, it will reward you with plenty of fun things to do, from dailies, expeditions, PvP arena battles, guild interaction, and more. In addition, you can always shorten the wait with these ingenious tips and tricks . At the end of the day, your effort will be worthwhile because you’ll be able to compete even against those players who dump real currency into their fleets on a regular basis.

Resources You Can and Should Use

Aside from Dilithium, there are 4 types of resources you can obtain and use in Star Trek Timelines. These are:

The basic currency of the game, Credits can be used to buy things from the Time Portal, as well as upgrade your crew and their gear. Your first two crew quarters upgrades – which you’ll want to purchase right away – also cost Credits. You can get this currency from pretty much any task – campaigns, missions, voyages, scans, you name it.

This resource is a kind of “Energy” for the time-jumbled universe of Star Trek Timelines. You need it to do pretty much anything in the game, so it is extremely valuable. Chronitons are recovered at a rate of 10 per hour, but can also be obtained from various achievements and events.

Star Trek Timelines: How to Play It for Free

This resource can be earned from completing daily missions and taking part in events. You can use it to “unfreeze” immortalized heroes, buy items from specific factions, refresh the gauntlet, and more.

Used primarily to buy Honorary Citations (to rank up heroes), crew, and boosters from the Time Portal, Honor can be obtained from daily missions, various achievements, and, most reliably, from dismissing unnecessary crew members.

Star Trek Timelines: How to Play It for Free

To find out more about how you should spend these resources from the very beginning, check out our guide to a fantastic early game in Star Trek Timelines .

Daily Tasks and the Command Deck

As an F2P player, your goal is to log in every day in order to complete all missions made available to you through the Command Desk, as well as your daily tasks. These will reward you with resources, as well as with new items, crew members, and even ships. Since you can’t use Dilithium to fast-track your progress to any of these, dailies are your best bet.

Star Trek Timelines: How to Play It for Free

To make sure that you can complete these daily tasks and missions, you will have to carefully use the number of available crew slots. You’ll be stuck with a maximum of 55 slots for a long time and, even though this might seem like a lot when you start out, you’ll quickly realize that it’s not enough to allow you to keep every hero you might come across. We focus on the ideal crew for F2P players in a different article , so stay tuned if you don’t yet know who to keep and who to dismiss.

Otherwise, you are ready to take on the galaxy in Star Trek Timelines and boldly go where no “VIP 0” player has gone before. At the end of it all, if you follow these tips, you’ll be able to boast to everyone else that you did it without spending a dime.

This monthly article features useful information about Dilithium, including what it is, how to earn it, and how to use it in-game. We’ll be featuring this article monthly, and adding to it as more questions about Dilithium arise. What is Dilithium? Beginning with the launch of Season 5: Call to Arms, Dilithium has become the major form of currency in Star Trek Online – it is primarily used to purchase in-game items, including ground and ship gear, starships, select Duty Officers and crafting materials, and is used to begin some Duty Officer Assignments. With the launches of Season 6, 7 and 8, Dilithium is also used in select Starbase, Embassy, Dilithium Mine and Spire Fleet Projects. How is Dilithium earned? Dilithium is primarily earned by completing in-game missions (PvP and PvE dailies, events, STFs, Duty Officer Assignments, spotlighted and qualified Foundry missions, etc.), and is awarded as Dilithium Ore. Players can also go mining for Dilithium Ore once per day on the Vlugta Asteroid Field, near Deep Space Nine, in the Beta Ursae Sector Block. Before this Ore can be spent, it must be refined. Players are able to refine up to 8,000 Dilithium Ore per day – 800 Day Veteran subscribers also have access to a special Duty Officer Assignment on Starfleet Academy (Fed), Klingon Academy (KDF), and New Romulus Command (Rom) that allows for extra Dilithium refining (1,000 extra for a 48 hour assignment). Gold members also have a special perk that allows them to refine Dilithium automatically upon logging in, up to one previous week’s worth.

Also, the recent introduction of the Fleet Dilithium Mine Outpost has added more benefits for earning and refining Dilithium! Check out the full details on this new addition here . STOWiki.org has done a fantastic job creating a Dilithium information page that provides a full list of missions that award Dilithium, including amounts. You can check it out here . Refined Dilithium is also available via the in-game Dilithium Exchange, which can be accessed via the downward arrow on the mini-map. Here, you can exchange ZEN you’ve transferred into STO for Refined Dilithium, and vice-versa. It’s important to note that the Dilithium Exchange is a live marketplace – exchange rates are driven by the playerbase, depending on how much of one currency they are willing to trade for another, and such rates may fluctuate from moment to moment.

How do I use Dilithium in-game? As mentioned, once Dilithium Ore is refined, it becomes a spendable currency. Many ships in-game require Dilithium to be purchased. Federation players can find Starship Requisitions at Earth Spacedock, Deep Space 9, Deep Space K-7 and Starbase 39-Sierra. Klingon players can find Starship Requisitions in the orbiting shipyard of Qo’noS. And Romulan players can find Starship Requisitions at the hubs of their allies, New Romulus Command, and the Flotilla. Players can also buy many different types of ground and space gear from various vendors across the galaxy. Federation players will find that Earth Spacedock is home to vendors who take Dilithium, and Klingon players will want to visit Qo’noS to spend their Dilithium. Romulans can visit vendors on the hubs of their allies, in addition to New Romulus Command and the Flotilla. Gear can also be purchased directly from the Dilithium Store on the minimap. If you are looking at crafting higher tier items at Memory Alpha, most recipes call for Common and Uncommon Unreplicateable Materials. These are purchased with Dilithium and can be obtained from a vendor on Memory Alpha (Fed), Qo’noS (KDF), or New Romulus Command (Rom), or through the Dilithium Store on the minimap. Select Duty Officers can be purchased with Dilithium from Lt. Ferra at Starfleet Academy (Fed), Lt. S’stas at Klingon Academy (KDF), and Centurion Velaar at New Romulus Command (Rom) – these Duty Officers are of Uncommon/ green and higher quality. As you participate in various Duty Officer Assignments, you will notice that some of them will require Dilithium. Similarly, Season 6: Under Siege introduced the new Fleet Advancement System. While some of the Starbase Fleet Projects your Fleet Officers decide to undertake may require large amounts of Dilithium, you can choose how much you would like to contribute at a given time – this allows for multiple fleetmates to contribute smaller amounts at a time if they wish. For those players that would like to “thank” the author of a Foundry mission you’ve recently enjoyed, at the end of the mission, along with your review, you can choose to leave a “tip” of refined Dilithium. Among other things, this helps authors fund the purchase of additional Foundry project slots, which means more Foundry missions for you to play! How do I use the Dilithium Exchange in-game? To access the Dilithium Exchange, click on the downward arrow on the mini-map and select “Dilithium Exchange” – this can also be accessed while browsing the Dilithium Store for items and clicking on “Buy Dilithium”, and through the button on the “Assets” tab of your inventory. Again, it’s important to note that the Dilithium Exchange is a live marketplace – exchange rates are driven by the playerbase, depending on how much of one currency they are willing to trade for another, and such rates may fluctuate from moment to moment. The following images provide more information on how to use the Exchange:

Star Trek: What Is Dilithium?

In Star Trek, the existence of dilithium represents the idea that the most extraordinary journeys often begin with the simplest of elements.

 • Dilithium is a crucial component of the warp drive in the Star Trek universe, allowing ships to surpass the limits of space-time. It plays a central role in the series' plotlines and has contributed to the evolution of intergalactic civilization.
 • In Star Trek, dilithium is a rare and valuable resource, with mining operations causing ecological damage. The demand for dilithium has led to interstellar diplomacy and conflicts, emphasizing its strategic importance.
 • While dilithium's properties and scarcity are fictional, its concept has inspired real-world scientists to explore new materials and energy sources that could revolutionize space exploration in the future.

Star Trek has fascinated fans for decades with its groundbreaking technologies, interstellar exploration, and intriguing storylines. Within this beloved series, a crystalline substance called dilithium plays a pivotal role. In fact, it is essential to the Gene Roddenberry universe.

Dilithium exists in Star Trek as a member of the hypersonic series. It is a material primarily found in crystalline mineral form. Thanks to its unique properties, it is an indispensable component of the warp drive, the mechanism that enables ships to surpass the constraints of conventional space-time limitations. Throughout Star Trek series and films, dilithium has been central to several plot lines. Since the founding of the Federation, it has played a crucial role in the evolution of intergalactic civilization.

Star Trek: How Was Warp Achieved When Dilithium Is Not Found On Earth?

Background & history.

In the Star Trek universe, dilithium is a naturally occurring crystal-like mineral that has proven to be a precious and rare resource. In the original series, dilithium crystals were described as invaluable, as it was impossible to replicate them. This rarity led to recurring plots involving the search for these crystals, similar to the real-world quest for resources like oil. Local names for dilithium, such as "radan" and "winter's tear," added to the sense of mystery surrounding this substance.

The demand for dilithium increased as the Federation grew. Extensive mining operations led to significant ecological damage on the planets where it was found. This concern became a crucial element in the Star Trek storyline. In Discovery, characters like Paul Stamets hoped to find alternative, sustainable power sources to prevent further ecological harm.

Dilithium's value often extended to interstellar diplomacy and conflicts. The Federation attempted to negotiate with the Halkans to mine dilithium from their planet in the year 2267. Meanwhile, the mirror universe showed the Halkans refusing a similar demand with high stakes. In another instance, Captain James T. Kirk offered dilithium in exchange for a life-saving substance, emphasizing the strategic importance of this resource.

One of the most significant events in Star Trek was "The Burn," which occurred in the 31st century. This cataclysmic event was central to the plot of the third season of Discovery. The Burn was triggered by a sudden loss of power in refined dilithium, leading to catastrophic warp core failures across the galaxy. This resulted in the near-collapse of the Federation and a scramble for unrefined dilithium.

In 3189, the USS Discovery discovered a planet composed of dilithium, an incredible find in the post-Burn galaxy. This brought hope to the Federation by providing a means to distribute dilithium to various star systems across the galaxy.

Uses of Dilithium in Star Trek

Dilithium's fictional properties make it ideal for regulating the annihilation reaction between matter and antimatter in a starship's warp core. It induces eddy currents in the dilithium crystal structure when subjected to a high-frequency electromagnetic field. This prevents charged particles from coming into contact with antimatter.

As depicted on the show, the streams of matter and antimatter directed into crystallized dilithium are usually unbalanced, with an excess of matter. The annihilation reaction heats the excess matter, producing plasma for the nacelles and enabling faster-than-light travel . During this reaction, dilithium is crucial in preventing antimatter explosions.

The scarcity of natural dilithium crystals has been a recurring theme in Star Trek storylines, often leading to interstellar conflicts. The need for these crystals for interstellar travel is a parallel to the real-world resource of oil. Just as the real world has seen conflicts over oil, dilithium been a catalyst for conflict in the Star Trek series.

Dilithium in Real-World Science

In the real world, dilithium is a diatomic molecule composed of two lithium atoms covalently bonded together. It exists primarily as a gas with specific properties such as bond order, internuclear separation, and bond energy. However, real-world science makes it clear that the creation of a warp drive powered by dilithium crystals is highly unlikely.

Prominent physicist Lawrence M. Krauss, in his book The Physics of Star Trek , suggests that warp drive is as improbable as time travel. He cites the paradoxes involved in round-trip time travel as evidence against the possibility. “There is reason for hope, but I must admit I remain skeptical,” the scientist wrote .

Like my colleague Stephen Hawking, I believe that the paradoxes involved in round-trip time travel rule it out for any sensible physical theory. Since virtually the same conditions of energy and matter are required for warp travel and deflector shields, I’m not anticipating them either.

Interestingly, within the confines of the Star Trek universe, the replication of dilithium remains an unattainable feat, despite the replication of most other forms of matter. Speculation in this Reddit thread offers an explanation for this phenomenon, suggesting that the structure of dilithium crystals might resemble Widmanstätten patterns. These distinctive crosshatch patterns are known to emerge on the surface of specific objects, such as meteorites, but only when subjected to an exceptionally slow cooling process. This intricate natural process appears beyond the capabilities of laboratory settings. This might explain why the replication of dilithium defies even the most advanced sci-fi technologies.

In contemporary physics, the notion of crystalline structures influencing energy manipulation and propulsion mechanisms echoes the fictional applications of dilithium in Star Trek . The real-world scientific community has not discovered an exact counterpart to dilithium. However, the concept has inspired researchers and enthusiasts to explore new materials and energy sources that could potentially revolutionize space exploration in the future.

Star Trek Fleet Command: How to Get Dilithium & What It’s Used For

How to Get Dilithium in Star Trek Fleet Command & What It’s Used For

In Star Trek Fleet Command , you may come across many different types of resources spread across the galaxy. Some of them are common and can be easily acquired, while others are much more rare, and it will take greater effort to obtain them. Here’s how to get dilithium in Star Trek Fleet Command and how to use it.

Dilithium falls into the latter camp. It is used to upgrade your facilities, as well as other uses, and its utility makes it exceedingly coveted. Though you can produce dilithium at your station, the best way to collect it in mass quantities is via mining. If you’re unsure what to do, check out this guide on mining.

In Star Trek Fleet Command, there is no shortage of galaxies to explore, meaning that pinning down an exact mining location for each ore or resource is a tricky bit of business. Rigel is generally a good place to get started, while others, like YouTuber Synq Gaming, have had success in obscure corners like Clytomenes, due west of Nausicaa.

The odds are, if you find a location that is rich in resources, other players will happen upon it, too – so relying on one farming location alone is not recommended. If you are coming up short on dilithium, it may be worth targeting another resource for a while until the demand for dilithium dies down. Keep in mind, dilithium and tritanium are often found in close proximity to one another; if one is being overmined, it’s a safe bet that the other one is, too.

Forgotten Star Trek Character Architect Of Franchise’s Newest Mystery

The most recent episode, “Jinaal,” brought back a Trill character from Picard’s era who revealed that he was part of a group of researchers secretly put together by an unnamed Federation president. He later mentions hiding their findings thanks to the outbreak of the Dominion War, which means that the president who began the Progenitor research was Jaresh-Inyo, a mostly forgotten character from Deep Space Nine.

To know what the heck I’m talking about, we may need to quickly review what the TNG episode “The Chase” was all about.

In that ep, Captain Picard’s mentor and father figure, Professor Galen, dies, leaving his former student with a research-based mystery to solve.

Eventually, the Enterprise captain (with the help of Klingons, Cardassians, and even Romulans) solves the mystery. They find a recording from an ancient race claiming to be responsible for seeding the galaxy with the DNA that led to the formation of these alien races (which explains why all the aliens are relatively similar to humans).

Just as this season of Star Trek: Discovery has our characters trying to solve the mystery of the Progenitors, audiences at home have been having to put together clues regarding exactly what the Federation did after Picard discovered evidence of these ancient aliens. In the TNG episode “The Chase,” Picard (thanks to research from his old mentor, the archaeologist Galen) discovers a recording from a mysterious race that claims to have seeded DNA that eventually led to the development of humans, Cardassians, Romulans, and likely many more alien races.

Incredibly, Star Trek never really followed up on this bombshell revelation until the most recent season of Discovery began with our characters trying to find evidence of these aliens (now called the Progenitors) before two bad guys (think Bonnie and Clyde in space) get their hands on it. Like the Genesis device before it, Progenitor technology has the capacity to create life but could also be used to cause unimaginable destruction. Captain Burnham and her crew are trying to solve a series of mysteries and find any information or technology related to these mysterious aliens and their powerful technology.

Captain Burnham and her crew are trying to solve a series of mysteries and find any information or technology related to these mysterious aliens and their powerful technology.

Here’s a bit of irony: if only the Discovery crew could binge-watch old Star Trek episodes as much as we do, they might have realized what a big hint about the Progenitors they received in the most recent episode. When Dr. Culber allows his body to temporarily host the mind of a Trill who had helped research the Progenitors, the body-hopping alien mentions how he was part of a group of six scientists brought together by a “Federation president” but that they hid their findings once “the Dominion War was raging.” Given this timeline, the president must be Jaresh-Inyo, someone we only see in two DS9 episodes: “Homefront” and “Paradise Lost.”

The president reluctantly agreed to these measures and even implemented martial law throughout the planet, but he returned everything to the status quo after Leyton was revealed as a traitor who had fabricated threats in order to consolidate his own power.
According to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine writer Robert Hewitt Wolfe, the staff wanted the Federation president to be a Jimmy Carter type who is unaccustomed to dealing with conflict, and this explains what we later learn about the investigation he began into Progenitor technology.
Obviously, future episodes of Star Trek: Discovery will tell us more about the Progenitors, and we’ll almost certainly learn more about the key players behind the original investigation (such as the other four researchers the possessed Culber refused to name).
