Football fans across NSW will get the chance to share in the exciting build-up to next month’s FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 following the launch of the NSW leg of the tournament’s Trophy Tour today by NSW Premier Chris Minns.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup Trophy Tour 2023 has visited each of the 32 qualified countries as part of a mission to inspire and spotlight future female football talent, build excitement, and increase support ahead of the tournament.

The NSW leg of the Trophy Tour will visit locations across Sydney and regional NSW over the long weekend, giving football fans the chance to see the greatest prize in women’s football first-hand.

Premier Minns was joined at the launch at Taronga Zoo today by Matildas Clare Hunt, Courtney Nevin and Sarah Hunter, as well as tournament mascot Tazuni, where they were introduced to some of Australia’s iconic native wildlife at the Zoo’s new Nura Diya Australia habitat.

As part of the launch, Minister for Sport Steve Kamper also announced that a further $3.23 million was available to football clubs, associations and councils under Round 2 of the NSW Football Legacy Fund for new and upgraded football facilities and participation programs.

NSW Premier Chris Minns said:

“The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 is the pinnacle of the sport and throughout July and August, Australian football fans will get to witness the highs, lows, thrills and excitement right here on home soil.

“The Trophy Tour is another milestone in the build-up to the tournament which will give fans of all ages and backgrounds the opportunity to feel part of the contest.

The FIFA Women's World Cup Trophy arrives at Stadium Australia

Trophy Tour event attended by former Matilda Leigh Wardell

Its next visit to the stadium will be on 20 August, to be lifted by the 2023 champions

As the FIFA Women's World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™ draws closer, the Trophy Tour arrived at the iconic Stadium Australia in Sydney on Friday, 9 June. The event was a prelude to the grand finale when the original trophy will return as the 2023 world champions are crowned on 20 August. Leigh Wardell, Matildas cap number 11, had the honour of unveiling the gleaming FIFA Women's World Cup trophy to a palpable buzz, in front of a crowd of inspiring women gathered for a leadership event.

FIFA Women's World Cup Trophy at Stadium Australia

"I definitely know whose hands I want around it,” smiled Wardell. “Whether that happens or not is going to be the exciting bit over the next two months. "In just 41 days, this venue will be packed with football fans as the Matildas kick-off their World Cup campaign against the Republic of Ireland,” said the Hon. Stephen Kamper, NSW Minister for Sport. “I really don't think everyone has truly appreciated how big this event is going to be. How big it's going to be for women's football, and for women's sport in general."

Hon. Stephen Kamper, NSW Minister for Sport

With every passing second, the momentum builds towards the defining moment: the conclusion of 64 matches across both Australia, and New Zealand. Stadium Australia will be where dreams will be realised, and destinies fulfilled, as the winning captain lifts the trophy to the heavens. "I know we still talk about the 2000 Olympics ... and we say how fantastic that was, but I'm hoping that in 5, 10, 20 years' time we can turn around and say what an amazing World Cup we had in (Australia) in 2023," reflected Wardell, envisioning the legacy the tournament will leave behind.

Leigh Wardell, former Matildas international

“It gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. I cannot wait to be here to witness that glorious moment. Nobody wants to miss that. It will truly be history in the making,” said event host and Beyond Greatness Champion, Mel Mclaughlin. The Trophy Tour will continue on its journey through Australia and New Zealand, following its already exhaustive tour of the other thirty qualified nations.

Fifa World Cup Trophy To Visit Australia

fifa world cup trophy tour sydney

Coca-Cola Australia today announced that the one-and-only, authentic FIFA World Cup Trophy – the symbol of world football supremacy – will visit Australia next month.

Coca-Cola Australia today announced that the one-and-only, authentic FIFA World Cup Trophy - the symbol of world football supremacy - will visit Australia next month.

As part of the first global “FIFA World Cup™ Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola,” the real Trophy will come to Sydney on Friday 17th March, at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, Sydney.

FIFA and The Coca-Cola Company are bringing the coveted FIFA World Cup Trophy to Sydney as part of a precedent-setting, 31-city, traveling exhibition that circles the globe, lasting from January until early April. The itinerary takes the trophy to a total of 29 countries - for the first time - with stops planned in Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe.

The global journey is the first extensive tour of the one-of-a-kind, solid-gold FIFA World Cup Trophy, which is rarely seen in public outside the nation winning The FIFA World Cup™. The viewing experience in Sydney also provides the public the first close-up look at the newly renovated FIFA World Cup Trophy, which was physically updated in the second half of 2005. This will mark the first time the authentic FIFA World Cup Trophy has ever been brought to Australia by FIFA and its Official Partner Coca-Cola.

Fans will be able to view the Trophy at a public unveiling set to take place in the forecourt of the Overseas Passenger terminal on March 17, 2006.

For fans eager to get even closer to the Trophy, a ticketed event will be held from 1.30pm allowing fans to have their photo taken with the coveted Trophy. Tickets for this event will be distributed through a major consumer promotion - the details of which will be announced at a future date.

The public Trophy Tour experience scheduled here includes a specially created, short feature film that builds to the unveiling of the actual FIFA World Cup Trophy. The entire presentation lasts approximately 15 minutes.

To accommodate fans coming to see the FIFA World Cup Trophy, local Coca-Cola organisers have created additional entertainment at the Overseas Passenger Terminal and both entertainment and guest appearances will be announced closer to the event.

“This will be a memorable day for Sydney and its residents,” said Gareth Edgecombe, Managing Director, Coca-Cola Australia. “The FIFA World Cup™ Trophy is one of the most-recognisable sports icons in the world and the dream of every person who ever kicked a football, regardless of their age. This is an extraordinary opportunity for people here to actually view first-hand the priceless trophy that perhaps they have only heard about or seen on television. This special visit enables the entire nation to share our passion for football, and Coca-Cola is delighted to be a part of it.”

"We are pleased that we are joining forces with Coca-Cola to stage the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour. This tour takes the rarely seen trophy - the jewel in the crown of world football - to fans around the world, with the aim of spreading happiness and hope to make the world a better place. We want people to be able share their passion for the beautiful game of football with their fellow countrymen, an experience they would otherwise never have," commented FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter.

The global FIFA World Cup™ Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola is the first major activity under the new “We All Speak Football” marketing platform for Coca-Cola. The campaign, initially focused on the buildup to the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™, brings to life the optimistic vision of brand Coca-Cola to draw people together and set aside their differences, as a way of making the world a little bit better.

The Coca-Cola Company is one of the longest-standing corporate partners of Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), with a formal relationship since 1974 and an official sponsorship of FIFA World Cup™ that began in 1978. Coca-Cola has had stadium advertising at every FIFA World Cup™ since 1950.

Last Nov. 22, FIFA and The Coca-Cola Company extended their long-time partnership for another 16 years (eight years with an automatic eight-year renewal, subject to certain conditions), from 2007 until 2022.

The Coca-Cola Company is the world's largest beverage company.  Along with Coca-Cola, recognised as the world's most-valuable brand, the Company markets four of the world's top five soft drink brands, including Diet Coke, Fanta and Sprite, and a wide range of other beverages, including diet and light soft drinks, waters, juices and juice drinks, teas, coffees and sports drinks.  Through the world's largest beverage distribution system, consumers in more than 200 countries enjoy the Company's beverages at a rate exceeding 1 billion servings each day.  For more information about The Coca-Cola Company, please visit the Web site www.coca-cola.com.

The FIFA Women's World Cup trophy on Thursday commenced its tour in Australia from Sydney, one of the 2023 tournament's host cities, with about 42 days left before the kick-off on July 20, reported Xinhua.

From Thursday to Monday, the trophy will visit locations across Sydney and regional New South Wales (NSW), enabling football fans across the state to see the greatest prize in women's football first-hand.

During a launching ceremony held at Sydney's iconic Taronga Zoo, along with the Opera House and the arch of the Harbor Bridge as its backdrop, the trophy was jointly unveiled by NSW Premier Chris Minns, NSW Minister for Sport Steve Kamper, and FIFA Women's World Cup legend and former U.S. goalkeeper Briana Scurry.

"The FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 is the pinnacle of the sport and throughout July and August, Australian football fans will get to witness the highs, lows, thrills, and excitement right here on home soil," said Minns.

The premier pointed out that the Trophy Tour is another milestone in the build-up to the tournament, which will give fans of all ages and backgrounds the opportunity to feel part of the contest.

"The FIFA Women's World Cup will see 32 teams compete across 64 matches during July and August with 11 games in Sydney, including a semifinal and final," Kamper noted.

"The FIFA Women's World Cup Trophy Tour 2023 is an opportunity for communities across our state to unite in their love of football and celebrate the tournament coming to our shores," the minister added.

After a five-day stay in NSW, the trophy will next head to Melbourne, the capital city of Victoria, for a three-day exhibition.

The FIFA Women's World Cup Trophy Tour 2023 has visited each of the 32 qualified teams as part of a mission to inspire and spotlight future female football talent, build excitement, and increase support ahead of the tournament.

FIFA World Cup™️ Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola Kicks Off Global Journey in Dubai

FIFA World Cup™️ Trophy Tour by Coca‑Cola Kicks Off Global Journey in Dubai

FIFA World Cup™ winners Iker Casillas and Kaká send original FIFA World Cup™ Trophy on global journey that will include all 32 qualifying countries for the first time

Original FIFA World Cup™ Trophy unveiled at Dubai’s Coca‑Cola Arena before it embarks on its fifth journey, travelling to 51 countries and territories

DUBAI, May 12, 2022 – The FIFA World Cup™ Trophy Tour by Coca‑Cola kicked off today with a first-stop event in Dubai, where former FIFA World Cup™ winners Iker Casillas and Kaká came together to send the original FIFA World Cup™ Trophy on its journey around the world ahead of the tournament later this year.

“As football fans around the world gear up to support their teams, Coca‑Cola is thrilled to offer fans the opportunity to experience the trophy ahead of the tournament,” said Brad Ross, Vice President of Global Sports & Entertainment Marketing and Partnerships at The Coca‑Cola Company. “The real magic of the FIFA World Cup exists with fans believing in their teams and showcasing their passion for the game.”

Starting today, Coca‑Cola is inviting fans to a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the most recognised symbol in football and experience the real magic of the world’s largest and most anticipated single-sport event – the FIFA World Cup™.

The FIFA World Cup™ Trophy Tour by Coca‑Cola will stop in 51 countries and territories, bringing Coca‑Cola and FIFA one step closer to the goal of visiting each of FIFA’s 211 member associations by 2030. For the first time ever, the tour will visit all 32 countries that qualified for the FIFA World Cup™, inspiring fans across the world through exclusive consumer experiences.

“The FIFA World Cup Trophy is one of the greatest symbols in sport,” said Romy Gai, FIFA’s Chief Business Officer. “Bringing it on tour gives us a unique opportunity to shine a spotlight on the fantastic communities around the world who love the beautiful game. The trophy tour – which will end back in Qatar, our amazing hosts – highlights our commitment to making football truly global as we realise the dreams of our fans and bring the joy and excitement of the FIFA World Cup to their doorsteps, together with our long-standing partner Coca‑Cola.”

FIFA World Cup™ winners Iker Casillas and Kaká shared their passion for the game at the first stop event in Dubai.

Kaká said: “It is an incredible honour to be part of the first stop of the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca‑Cola. My first FIFA World Cup as a player was when I was just 20 years old, and it is still fresh in my mind – for me, it was a dream come true.”

Added Iker Casillas: “It was the highlight of my career when I lifted this very trophy as captain of Spain in 2010. And it is exciting that someone will have that feeling in Qatar later this year. It fills me with great pride to join all of you today, as we kick off the journey of the FIFA World Cup Trophy, bringing it to the fans across the globe.”

The FIFA World Cup™ Trophy Tour by Coca‑Cola has a mission to support the development of sustainability efforts at each location visited by the tour. For the first time, consumer activations will be digitally led by Coca‑Cola, reducing waste at each stop on the tour and minimising the consumption of water, energy, materials and other resources.

The Coca‑Cola Company has had a long-standing relationship with FIFA since 1976 and has been an official FIFA World Cup™ Sponsor since 1978.  Coca‑Cola has had stadium advertising at every FIFA World Cup™ since 1950 and is a long-time supporter of football at all levels.

About the FIFA World Cup™ Trophy

The FIFA World Cup™ Trophy is awarded to the winners of the FIFA World Cup™ while remaining in FIFA’s possession. Made of solid gold and weighing 6.142kg, the trophy depicts two human figures holding the globe aloft. Its current design dates back to 1974. As one of the most recognised sports symbols in the world and a priceless icon, the original FIFA World Cup™ Trophy can only be touched and held by a very select group of people, which includes former winners of the FIFA World Cup™ and heads of state. Because regulations state that the original trophy must remain in FIFA’s possession and cannot be won outright, the team winning the FIFA World Cup™ retains the authentic trophy temporarily and is then permanently awarded the tournament edition trophy, the FIFA World Cup™ Winner’s Trophy (which is gold-plated, rather than solid gold, and engraved with the year, host country and winners of the respective event).

The FIFA World Cup™ Trophy Tour by Coca‑Cola is an extraordinary opportunity for people to take in a piece of football history and share their passion for the sport with each other. The emotions of seeing the original FIFA World Cup™ Trophy will stay in football fans’ memories forever.
