Customer Testimonials

Dear Patrick, I wanted to take time to take time to properly thank you and your staff for an AMAZING experience in Monaco for the F1 race!! It was a life long dream of my husband’s to attend. I found your organization on the web via Google. From the moment I contacted you, you gave me very personalized and professional service and attention. With your help, I created a package that far exceeded our highest expectations! From the arrangement of a day trip to St.Tropez, to the attention given to ensure our 4 legged child (Honey) could accompany us on our trip, everything was perfect and no detail left unattended! Not to mention, the personal delivery of our race day tickets! Everything was First Class!! From our arrival into Nice, and our private transfer to the beautiful Royal Riviera hotel. To our guide to St.Tropez, Ingrid whom is very knowledgeable about the area and gave us wonderful insider information

Jennifer and Steve B from Ponte Verda USA.

‘Highly Recommended. This year we hosted 20 corporate guests in France for the 2017 Monaco Grand Prix Race through Luxury F1. Patrick and the Luxury F1 team were exceptional. Start to finish planning was polished, well organised and the entire event well exceeded our expectations. The Luxury F1 team helped us create and execute a experience throughout the Southern Coast of France for our guests. Their expertise, on-ground team & contacts far exceeded just the Monaco region & F1 event - and nothing was ever an issue. I would highly recommend the Luxury F1 team for any Grand Prix corporate or personal event. It will be an experience you will never forget, and one which the Luxury F1 team can help you bring to life. Thank you Luxury F1. An incredible experience.

Olympus Australia.

‘A VIP experience with excellent communication from start to finish. From limo pickup at our hotel in Nice to helicopter to dream yacht to my first glass of champagne the day just got better and better. Thank you Daniel Ricciardo for giving me the chance to belt out the Aus anthem and I apologise to all those involved for Brian’s dancing. Thank you again Patrick and team. Sharon and Brian

Anne and Tony Roche AUS.

‘Thank you Patrick for an awesome experience in Monaco. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone thinking of heading to Monaco in future. Patrick's extensive knowledge of the area and the Grand Prix is second to none. Everything was as described, if not better. Loved the yacht on race day with the most awesome staff who seriously made sure the champagne kept flowing....and an after party that had to be the best going. What a saxophone! Hope we can make it there again one day! Thanks again.....

Sharon and Brian Johnson AUS.

‘Monaco F1 tickets’ into Google and the response can be overwhelming. A vast array of seating options, prices and hosts makes the information difficult to disseminate. At Luxury F1, Patrick was able to facilitate any request with ease, from organising a 458 Spider for the weekend, parking at the track, through to a pit lane access and tickets to one of the biggest social events on the F1 calendar; the drivers after party at Monaco’s exclusive Amber Lounge. I highly recommend a visit to Monaco to experience the world’s greatest motor sport event and without doubt, Patrick and his team at LuxuryF1 as your hosts for the weekend. Paul and Tony

Paul and Tony from Melbourne

What a fabulous time we had in Monaco with the Grand Prix. The team at Luxury F1 lead by Patrick was so well managed. The view from the Terrace most definitely the place to watch a Grand Prix. I will go back, and this was my first time overseas to see an F1 race, no better than how we managed to be there with this company

Ben Mirrabella Competition winner, Shannons Insurance

Patrick and team looked after all guest outstandingly at the Monaco Grand Prix. Communication pre meeting was superb. The drinks were flowing, the music was on point, live & dj. All in all a total V.I.P experience. Monaco AGAIN in 2019 and thank you again for your outstanding hospitality *****

Peter M from London UK

Patrick and his team really looked after us at this years Monaco Grand Prix with great food, great wine, lovely people....and a killer view of the track! The exceptionally hot weather also added to the experience, although Im not 100% sure whether Patrick had pre-booked that as well?! Either way, the endless Champagne certainly helped to keep us hydrated! Many thanks again, and hope to see you in 2019! Ed Roller.

Ed Roller UK

Thanks Patrick to you and your partners for organising such an enjoyable few days in Monaco. This GP has been at the top of my list for a long time so I finally took the plunge along with my wife, youngest daughter and her husband. The yacht party on Sea Bluez on Friday night was excellent, the food and viewing at Joel Robuchon Restaurant at the Hotel Metropole on Saturday were out standing, and viewing the race on Sunday at the Fairmont Hotel private room was the experience of a lifetime, even though Daniel R came second (should have won). It was great to finally meet you at the yacht party for a chat and I can't recommend you highly enough. All the staff we encountered went above and beyond, were always helpful and we also made some great new friends. Best Regards from us all.

Laurie Gleeson SA

Circuit Gilles Villeneuve

  • grandstands

The Canadian Grand Prix is a Formula 1 fan favourite and draws a capacity crowd. From all over North America and the rest of the world, some 300,000 F1 fans flood into Montreal over the 3 days.

montreal f1

Circuit Gilles Villeneuve — named in honour of the local hero who won its first race — is an old-school venue that oozes character and history. Built on the 1967 Expo venue, an island park in the Saint Lawrence River, the circuit is just minutes away from the heart of throbbing downtown Montreal.

The circuit is host to edge-of-the-seat-exciting races with ever-present potential for the unexpected. It has characteristics much like Melbourne’s Albert Park, that go beyond just the park setting. The narrow track and close, unforgiving barriers demand utmost concentration from drivers. It’s a formula that produces unlikely results and memorable moments.

Despite not having a local World Champion since 1997 the enthusiasm of the crowd is tangible and the atmosphere in the stands is electric.

This doesn’t end when you leave the circuit — vibrant, lively Montreal really embraces F1 and the place comes alive on race weekend. The party overflows the circuit, into downtown Montreal where revellers fill Crescent Street’s bars.

Add to all this the fact that the event is well organized and the circuit super accessible on the Montreal metro and you have yourself a winning F1 venue.

Canadian Grand Prix Spectator Tips

  • You’ve come to watch other people drive. Leave the car at the hotel  for this one and take the metro instead.
  • If you’ve come all this way for a glimpse of a Formula 1 car between heads in the crowd snap up those general admission tickets. Otherwise give them a miss this time.
  • Remember FM radio? You can use one to listen to commentary at the track by tuning into 99.1 FM and 104.5 FM.
  • Montreal can be a pain in the ass. Bring a cushion for the hard metal bleachers.
  • Soak up the festival atmosphere and a few beers with the rest of the F1 fraternity in Crescent Street

Take your time when leaving and miss the worst of the crowds

As at any Grand Prix, if you can time your commute to and from the circuit in such a way that avoids the peak traffic you can enjoy a more relaxed journey and spend less time waiting in line.

After a long day track side, instead of jostling for space in the metro why not relax in the sophisticated surroundings of the Casino de Montreal.

Try your hand at Grand Prix Poker or just get a bite to eat at one of the venues many restaurants. The casino is open 24 hours though most of the restaurants close earlier.

The casino is over 18’s only so if you have the kids in tow or it doesn’t sound like your thing then just meandering around the park is a pleasant enough way to while away some time.

F1 Japanese GP track breakdown: Suzuka is all rhythmic flow and old-school charm

Japan’s Suzuka International Racing Course is as iconic as they come.

Soichiro Honda — yes, that Honda — was behind the creation of Japan’s first full-scale road racing track, and circuit designer John Hugenholtz drew up the iconic, quirky figure eight. The initial layout saw the circuit cross over itself three times, but the current design only features the single cross of Sectors 2 and 3.

Still challenging more than 30 years after holding its first F1 grand prix, Suzuka is a driver favorite, offering old-school charm and nearly every type of corner. “Suzuka is definitely one of the very greats of all time,” George Russell said in 2023. “It is such a thrill. The undulations and the flow to this circuit, it gives you such a great rhythm when you’re racing. So there’s always a joy to come here.”

As Formula One continues to try to regionalize the calendar , the Japanese Grand Prix has moved earlier in the year, falling during cherry blossom season. Here’s what you need to know about the track that’s decided numerous world championships.

The Honda ties

“I want to have a venue for motor racing,” Soichiro Honda said in 1959. “Automobiles cannot be improved if they are not put through their paces on the racing circuit.”

The company made its racing debut at motorcycling’s Tourist Trophy (TT) Race on the Isle of Man that same year and required a testing track for its production models. The solution was to build its own circuit. Honda contacted Hugenholtz to help with the design, and according to racingcircuits.info , Hugenholtz’s son says the story went like this:

“My father went there and had a number of staff to help him and was given the plans of a large site. There was a 3D model of the site as well. As there were quite a number of hills and existing roads between the rice fields, he made a design that would give the least amount of earth to be moved, including the cross-over, which was, and is, very unusual for a circuit. However, my father’s opinion always was that a racing circuit must have a combination of different corners and challenges, so a cross-over was certainly possible.”

The company’s team analyzed data from famed circuits in Europe to create the model. It determined the land needed to be around 660,000 to 990,000 square meters for a six-kilometer track (a lap’s distance). Suzuka stood out, and while the municipal government supported the project, land acquisition was difficult. Suzuka Town Hall hosted meetings for several nights as Honda representatives and the city’s deputy mayor discussed with the residents. Eventually, everyone agreed.

According to Honda’s history of the circuit , Suzuka was placed in a nearby mountainous area after the original plan to build in an area of rice fields was nixed.

Today, Honda’s ties to Formula One extend beyond the circuit. It has worked with numerous teams over the years like Red Bull, McLaren, Lotus and Williams, and will become Aston Martin’s works partner in 2026.

Why Honda could fuel Aston Martin’s next big step up the F1 ladder

Winning over F1

F1’s history in Japan dates back to the 1970s, when it competed at Fuji Speedway, the track that decided the 1976 world championship (Mario Andretti won the race, but James Hunt took the title, beating Niki Lauda by one point). The track, though, was dangerous and was subject to unpredictable rain.

In 1977, Ronnie Peterson and Gilles Villeneuve collided there, sending the latter driver’s Ferrari into a group of spectators and killing two people in a restricted area. F1 left the country for a decade before returning, this time at Suzuka.

Changes were made to the track throughout the 1980s to land Suzuka on F1’s calendar. A chicane was added before the last curve in 1983. There had been concerns about that section between the increasing speeds and lack of run-off area. Other safety measures were taken around the circuit, such as adjusting some sections to create more run-off areas. And it worked; Suzuka hosted its first grand prix in 1987.

But F1 didn’t stay solely in Suzuka. Toyota Motor Corporation bought Fuji Speedway in 2000 and announced it would redevelop the track to meet the sport’s standards. Legendary track designer Hermann Tilke developed the proposal, and Fuji Speedway reopened in 2005. F1 competed there in 2007 and 2008, but weather concerns remained. Ticket sales didn’t meet expectations for various reasons, and Formula One Management decided Suzuka and Fuji would alternate hosting the Japanese Grand Prix.

That is until the Great Recession forced Toyota to withdraw from F1, and Honda negotiated a deal to keep Suzuka on F1’s calendar. The other two seasons in which the sport didn’t compete at Suzuka were in 2020 and 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Suzuka’s biggest moments

Suzuka has seen plenty of battles over the years. With its historically late season slot, this track has decided more than one championship.

Alain Prost-Ayrton Senna colliding in 1989

McLaren teammates (and infamous rivals) Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost were in a tight battle for the world title, and Suzuka marked the penultimate race on the 1989 calendar. That being said, Senna needed to win the last two races to clinch the title. He may have snagged pole position, but Prost had a better start, leading until lap 46.

Senna caught up to his teammate and attempted an overtake, colliding with Prost. Prost was knocked out, and while Senna won the race, he was later disqualified.

No stone is left unturned in the title fights we've witnessed before 😅 Especially in this epic battle between Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna in 1989! 👀 #F1 #HistoryAwaits pic.twitter.com/AeSj4DvxFQ — Formula 1 (@F1) December 2, 2021

Nigel Mansell v. Aryton Senna for the 1991 title

Once again, the world championship was decided at Suzuka.

Sixteen points separated Mansell and Senna before the Japanese GP, and the former driver needed a win to keep his title chase hopes alive. Mansell lined up P3 while Senna was second, and Senna just needed to defend the Williams driver. Only 10 laps into the race, Mansell made a mistake and spun off the track. This marked Senna’s final world championship before his death in 1994.

Michael Schumacher’s first Ferrari title

Are you sensing a trend here yet? Michael Schumacher and Mika Häkkinen battled each other for the 2000 world championship, and the hard racing continued at Suzuka .

Rain made things tricky as Schumacher and Häkkinen put together “almost identical times, like a perpetual qualifying lap” for 40-plus laps, the Ferrari driver told Autosport . Häkkinen led on the first pitstop but did a tad early second stop, leaving Schumacher to speed past on track. Ferrari’s pitstop ended up being quick enough that Schumacher didn’t lose the lead, and the win made Schumacher the first Ferrari driver to capture a title in 21 years.

Kimi Räikkönen’s climb from P17 to P1

The 2005 Japanese Grand Prix featured Räikkönen somehow fighting his way from near the back of the pack to first place.

Suzuka isn’t known for its overtaking opportunities. Still, a mixed grid after a wet qualifying triggered plenty of passes with the usual front runners much lower on the grid. Chaos ensued as drivers nearly collided. Giancarlo Fisichella looked out of reach in the final laps, but Räikkönen had other plans. He swept around the outside of Fisichella on the last lap, taking the lead and finishing 1.6 seconds ahead.

Jules Bianchi’s accident

In Oct. 2014, Jules Bianchi suffered a fatal crash at the Japanese Grand Prix, dying several months after colliding with a recovery tractor at Suzuka. His death hastened safety changes in the sport, like introducing the halo.

Pierre Gasly had a near miss with the recovery crane during the 2022 Japanese Grand Prix. He said to Sky Sports F1 at the time, “We lost Jules already. We all lost an amazing guy, an amazing driver, for the reasons that we know. Eight years ago, on the same track, in the same conditions, with a crane. How? How today can we see a crane, not only in the gravel, on a race track, while we are still on the track? I don’t understand that.

“Obviously, I got scared. Obviously, if I would have lost the car in a similar way Carlos lost it the lap before – it doesn’t matter the speed, 200kph, 100 – I would have died, as simple as that. I don’t understand. It’s disrespectful to Jules, disrespectful to his family.”

What’s the buzz about at Turn 2?

In 2023, there was quite a buzz of activity at the Suzuka International Racing Course, specifically at Turn 2.

Retired four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel was at the Japanese Grand Prix and created “Buzzin’ Corner.” The curbs were painted black and yellow, and on the infield, several wooden huts (called ‘bee hotels’) were installed to promote biodiversity. These can be filled with things like twigs and branches that area insects can use for building nests and as food supplies. The grid, including some team personnel, joined Vettel and decorated the huts (one for each team) with black and yellow paint.

“It was great to see that he’s found his purpose,” Lewis Hamilton said about Vettel’s impact. “To be honest, in the history of the sport, I don’t know any other driver who has ever been so outspoken and has shown real compassion for the world outside of this little world that we’re living in.”

Drivers’ takes on a classic

There’s something different about driving an F1 car around Suzuka compared to other tracks. Alex Albon put it best.

“It’s that feeling that you can really drive the corners and really feel what it’s like to drive a Formula One car, which sounds silly to say, but a track like Singapore, you don’t really feel like you’re driving a Formula One car, whereas here just the speed, and because it’s so tight, so narrow, there’s grass either side, the immersion in speed, the feeling of speed is a bit more than you get, for example, at Paul Ricard, so it’s very special.”

As Lando Norris said, “I think when you go to Singapore, it’s still amazing to drive it into Formula One car and probably still quicker than any other car you can go around Singapore in but you don’t feel the same speeds like you do here: You don’t get that same feeling of what an F1 car is really capable of, because where it performs better than anything is high-speed corners.”

The track hasn’t changed too drastically over the years, something that Norris feels “is one of the best things about it.” There’s still grass around, and “you’ve got that bit of risk, that element of risk, which I think is always genuine. It always feels very natural and definitely adds to, say, a qualifying lap, with how much risk you want to take.”

Suzuka may not have the city confines like Monaco or Singapore, but there is very little room for error. To put in a good lap, Haas’ Nico Hülkenberg said drivers need to “connect all the sectors, have a good car balance,” and be fast. Direction changes fairly frequently, creating a quick and flowy rhythm. The Haas driver added, “Ultimately, it comes down to how much grip you have and a good balance.”

Japanese Grand Prix 2024: How to watch the next F1 race without cable

F1 fans, start your engines. The 2024 season continues this weekend with the Japanese Grand Prix. Once again, this weekend's F1 race will be subject to inconvenient timing for East Coast viewers, with the main event starting at 1 a.m. ET on Sunday morning (so maybe plan on staying up late this Saturday night). This grand prix is extra exciting due to the shakeup on the track at the Asutralian Grand Prix, where Max Verstappen's winning streak came to an end when he suffered a break failure on the fourth lap and withdrew from the race. Whether you’ve already got some miles on you as a Formula 1 fan, or the first grand prix of the season will be your first time tuning into the action on the track, watching or streaming this wildly popular international sport from the US can be a challenge. If you don’t want to have to race to find the Japanese Grand Prix on TV, we’ve got you covered. Here’s how to watch the F1 races this weekend.

How to watch the F1 Japanese Grand Prix:

Stream free f1 coverage.

Japanese GP: Max Verstappen fastest in Practice One in upgraded Red Bull as Logan Sargeant crashes

Williams suffer another blow as the returning Logan Sargeant crashes the chassis sent for repairs after Alex Albon's Melbourne shunt; Red Bull and Aston Martin debut upgrades; watch Japanese GP second practice at 7am on Friday on Sky Sports F1, with Sunday's race at 6am

Logan Sargeant crashes out in P1

Max Verstappen made the perfect start in his attempt to get back to winning ways at the Japanese GP by leading team-mate Sergio Perez and Melbourne victor Carlos Sainz in Practice One as Red Bull revealed their first big car upgrade of the season at Suzuka.

But Williams suffered a fresh and unwanted setback as Logan Sargeant's first session back after being withdrawn from the Australian GP when the team were left with just one useable chassis lasted just 29 minutes when the American crashed at the high-speed Dunlop corner.

Sargeant is running the chassis that team-mate Alex Albon crashed during first practice in Melbourne a fortnight ago and which had to be sent back to the team's UK factory for repairs between the two flyaway races. Albon was given Sargeant's car to complete the remainder of the Melbourne weekend.

"Luckily he's gone in with the nose of the car first," said Sky Sports F1's Anthony Davidson after replays showed Sargeant straying wide onto the grass on the exit of the left-hander and then losing control on the gravel.

"I'm not seeing any damage around the suspension area. If that was side impact, I dread to think what that chassis would have gone through yet again."

Williams team principal James Vowles admitted the accident had done "extensive damage" to the FW46, although confirmed that the chassis itself was at least fine, and they were now working to make repairs in the hope that Sargeant could return in Practice Two. The team remain without a spare third chassis for this event.

The accident brought out the weekend's first red flag just before opening practice's half-way point and, when the session did resume, Verstappen hit the front when he put on the soft tyres with a quickest lap of 1:30.056.

Perez finished 0.181s back in the sister car, with the in-form Sainz close behind in the lead Ferrari in third.

After a woeful Melbourne, when they were again off the pace and registered their first double DNF for six years, Mercedes could take early encouragement from the running in Japan too with George Russell and Lewis Hamilton between the two Ferraris in fourth and fifth respectively.

"The drivers look more comfortable on track than they did in Melbourne," said Davidson.

"That Mercedes splitting the two Ferraris and only four-and-a-half tenths away from a heavily-upgraded Red Bull with Verstappen putting a sweet lap in, for me that's the surprise of the season."

Hamilton ran a new power unit in the opening session after Mercedes confirmed on Friday morning that the one that failed on his W15 in Melbourne could not be used again .

Charles Leclerc was sixth in the second Ferrari with Fernando Alonso the lead Aston Martin in seventh, despite team-mate Lance Stroll, who was 15th, running the new sidepods the team have brought to Suzuka as the team back-to-backed old and new design in the opening session.

McLaren briefly topped the timesheet earlier in the session but were eventually shuffled down to eighth (Oscar Piastri) and 10th positions (Lando Norris) having had to abort their initial soft-tyre runs for Sargeant's shunt. Japan's Yuki Tsunoda was in-between them in ninth for RB.

Red Bull's sister team fielded an all-Japanese line-up in the opening session as junior driver Ayumu Iwasa, 22, was given his debut F1 practice run-out in Daniel Ricciardo's car. Iwasa, who finished fourth in last year's F2 championship, completed 22 laps and finished with the 16th-fastest time, lapping nine tenths slower than Tsunoda.

Ricciardo, under growing pressure to up his game after a disappointing start to the season, returns for Practice Two live at 7am on Sky Sports F1.

What's new on the Red Bull, Ferrari and Aston Martin?

gp travel f1

The majority of F1's 10 teams have brought upgrades to the season's fourth round for a Suzuka circuit which represents one of a biggest test of a car's aerodynamics of the season.

Red Bull revealed a four-pronged package of changes: a new sidepod inlet design for improved air flow and efficiency, revised smaller front brake ducts, plus changes to the all-important floor and floor edge.

"At a circuit like Suzuka which rewards aerodynamic efficiency this is really a significant upgrade from Red Bull," said Sky F1's Ted Kravitz.

"They have brought four things which should make then even quicker.

"Impressive stuff from the world champions."

Ferrari are running a higher-downforce rear wing, while Aston Martin have brought a big upgrade to their car's floor in addition to revised diffuser and sidepod design.

F1 LIVE | FP1: Japanese Grand Prix

The Japanese weekend marks already the fourth Grand Prix of the season. Max Verstappen is out for revenge in Japan this weekend, after he failed to win at the Australian Grand Prix and had to retire his car because of a brake issue in his car. The last time the defending world champion failed to win a race, he bounced back immediately at Suzuka in 2023.

On the other hand, Ferrari are on a high after capping off a one-two finish in Melbourne. The Italian team seem to be the biggest challenger of Red Bull, but both Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc indicated over the press conference day that this will be a 'Red Bull circuit'. McLaren driver Lando Norris also acknowledged that they seem to be the third force at the moment.

The Suzuka Circuit is 5.807 kilometres (3.608 miles) long and has 18 corners. The driver competing in his home GP will be Yuki Tsunoda .

Japanese Grand Prix: Max Verstappen is expected to dominate in Suzuka

  • Published 1 day ago

Max Verstappen at the Australian Grand Prix

Max Verstappen was forced to retire from March's Australian Grand Prix with a brake fire

Ferrari expect Max Verstappen to be the dominant force in this weekend's Japanese Grand Prix despite their one-two in the last race in Australia.

Verstappen failed to win for the first time in 10 races in Melbourne as Carlos Sainz led Charles Leclerc across the line.

But Sainz said he is expecting a "challenging track" in Suzuka.

"Last year [in September] we were, I think, 0.7-0.8 seconds off Red Bull here," he said.

"So it's time to see where we are this year and see if we can be at least closer."

Verstappen retired from the Australian Grand Prix on the fourth lap with a brake fire. He had pole position in Melbourne but was passed by Sainz on the second lap as his brakes started to cause trouble.

But the Dutchman dominated the race in Japan last year, setting pole by nearly 0.6 seconds, and winning by nearly 20. This year, the race has been moved to spring from its traditional autumn date.

The three-time champion said: "If you look at Melbourne performance-wise, we were quick, but we didn't finish the race. So that's not ideal, but our car normally likes the higher speed corners, so hopefully that you know we can show that again this weekend."

Comeback in my thoughts but not priority - Vettel

Japanese Grand Prix practice, qualifying and race times

Most other leading drivers also expect Verstappen to be back in his familiar position at the front of the field in Japan.

Sainz's team-mate Charles Leclerc said: "This track will expose the teams more to high speed and we will understand a bit more where we stand compared to others on those types of corners. For now, I would expect Red Bull to still have the upper hand this weekend."

Mercedes expect their difficult start to the season to continue because their car's biggest weakness has been high-speed corners, which predominate at Suzuka, regarded as perhaps the most challenging and rewarding track for drivers on the calendar.

Lewis Hamilton said it was "unlikely" the team would be able to find a good harmony in their car this weekend given its performance over the season's first three races.

"For us, we have not started the season where we wanted to be," the seven-time champion said.

"We have a long way to go. You have seen how things can switch [around] in certain teams. Anything can happen in this sport. We just have to learn as much as we can and continue to work hard. It is not how you fall, it is how you get up. So we will continue to chase and fight and try to get back to the front."

His team-mate George Russell said: "There's a clear trend, where we know our strengths in the car, our weaknesses. Definitely performing stronger in the low-speed corners, struggling a bit in the high-speed corners, of which there's more of in Jeddah, more of in Melbourne, more of in Suzuka. You know, these are the faster circuits of the season. There's still plenty to understand."

Horner controversy takes a back seat

The controversy surrounding Red Bull team principal Christian Horner was not addressed by the drivers on media day in Japan, after a friend of the woman who registered a complaint of sexual harassment against the 50-year-old spoke to BBC Sport this week . Horner has always denied the claims made against him.

The situation has led to a power struggle inside Red Bull, and Verstappen has so far given equivocal answers whenever asked whether Horner has his full backing.

It remains a possibility, albeit a distant one, that Verstappen - who has a contract with Red Bull until 2028 - could end up leaving Red Bull at the end of this season in the fallout from Horner's situation.

But on Thursday, Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso, who has been linked to a move to Red Bull whether or not Verstappen leaves, said he thought there was "zero chance" of the three-time champion moving on.

Asked whether that was accurate - and what factors would define his plans for 2025 - Verstappen said: "No, it all depends on if I want to also drive next year or not, you know. But from my side, no, I'm very happy where I'm at. And, yeah, we want to keep it that way."

Alonso penalty debate

Alonso was the subject of discussion after receiving a 20-second penalty for "potentially dangerous driving" after he slowed on the straight and then accelerated again on the final lap of the race in Australia, actions that led to Russell crashing heavily.

The Aston Martin driver said he was "a little surprised by the penalty", adding: "It will not change much on how we drive. There is no obligation to drive 57 laps in the same way."

Russell said he felt a penalty was the correct decision.

"If it were not to have been penalised," he said, "it would have really opened a can of worms for the rest of the season - and in junior categories - of saying, you know, are you allowed to brake in a straight? Are you allowed to slow down, change gear, accelerate, do something semi-erratic?

"I don't take anything personally with what happened with Fernando. And it probably had bigger consequences than it should have."

But Lando Norris disagreed, saying penalising Alonso was the wrong decision.

"What Fernando did was odd, so extreme, but don't think it's even close to being regarded as a brake test," the McLaren driver said.

"Should it be a penalty? No. George had time to see what was going on. This was not a 'brake test'. This was just trying to play very smart, Fernando being Fernando, and [Russell] kind of being caught out by it.

"It was not aggressive. It was not one metre in front of a car stopping. [It was] 100m ahead, and the approaching speed caught George off.

"George didn't have to do anything other than brake five metres earlier and nothing would have happened. I will have many questions ready for the drivers' briefing."

Verstappen said he, too, would discuss the situation in the drivers' briefing, which takes place after practice on Friday.
