London Travel Restrictions: What You Need to Know

Before you pack your bags and head for the Big Smoke, it's essential to be aware of the latest travel restrictions. COVID-19 related rules can change, so always check the UK government website for updates. As of now, fully vaccinated Malaysians may enter London without quarantine, but you'll still need to present a negative COVID-19 test result before departure and take a test on or before day 2 after arrival.

As for visa requirements, Malaysians can visit the UK as tourists for up to six months without a visa. However, ensure your passport has at least six months of validity left and is in good condition to avoid any kacau at the immigration. It's also a good idea to have a return ticket and proof of sufficient funds for your stay to avoid any hassles.

MATTA COLLABORATES WITH TOURISM MALAYSIA AT THE WORLD TRAVEL MARKET 6 - 8 NOVEMBER 2023, LONDON

tourism malaysia london

KUALA LUMPUR, 6 NOVEMBER 2023 – In collaboration with Tourism Malaysia, MATTA is working with British Artist Rachel Gray, a recognised British artist of wildlife portraiture to launch the ‘Sustainable Malaysia Initiative’ at the Tourism Malaysia Pavilion at the World Travel Market 2023. Rachel Gray will produce one large format of the Malaysian tiger, a recognised endangered species. This portrait, through the use of technology, will be converted to Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT’s), which have an intrinsic value and they will be auctioned for sale at a date to be finalized later in the year. The proceeds from the auction and sale of the Non-Fungible Tokens will go towards supporting sustainable tourism at the Royal Belum State Park in Perak as well as towards sustaining the indigenous communities that live within. With the eyes of the world upon Malaysia for the few days between 6 - 8 November 2023 at the WTM 2023, it is believed that this event provides unique opportunities for branding and merchandizing and will help Malaysia get the word out about eco-tourism and the sustainable activities that go with it.  “Known and loved for our rich biodiversity, especially from the European market, this initiative is hoped to bring further awareness of Malaysia’s ecotourism products and sustainable tourism, apart from supporting the local communities and their conservation efforts. This is also in line with our focus to promote Malaysia as the Top-of-the-Mind Ecotourism Destination of the World,” said YBhg. Dato’ Roslan Tan Sri Abdul Rahman, Secretary General of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia.

Nigel Wong also took the opportunity to thank Malaysia Aviation Group for their support in providing a return ticket to London for Rachel Gray for this important campaign at the WTM London. “The collaboration with Rachel Gray is particularly important as we feel that Rachel’s work tells the perfect story of the beauty of Malaysia’s rich wildlife heritage that we are trying to save and sustain for the benefit of the generations to come but also for us all here and now.” said Nigel Wong, the President of MATTA. “This is also the first collaboration between MATTA and the British artist and we are proud of our close ties and the journey we are taking together towards a more sustainable future.”

ITC Director-General, Dato’ Dr. Mohmed Razip Haji Hasan (far right) speaking at the Halal Economy Conference 2022 moderated by Ms. Saeeda Ahmed, London Halal Expo’s Director of Strategic Partnership (far left)

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM, 3 DECEMBER 2022: Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC) extended its strategic relations with global Islamic Tourism and Halal industry practitioners at the inaugural Halal Expo London 2022 that took place at Excel London, United Kingdom on 2 and 3 December 2022.

The 2-day affair was a platform for Halal industry stakeholders to grow their target demographic to the trillion ringgit-worth global market with unlimited business potential. The trade show featured multiple sectors serving the faith-based needs of the world’s 1.9 billion Muslim consumers covering the areas of travel and tourism as well as beauty, food and beverage, fashion, sports, and entertainment. It was also an opportunity for decision-makers and heads of enterprises to communicate, discuss and share ideas on collaboration and investment possibilities to further strengthen the Halal industry.

tourism malaysia london

ITC took part in the exhibition to showcase its consultancy products and services in strengthening the Muslim-friendly offerings and branding. The expo was also an opportunity to support awareness towards the growing Muslim consumer market and highlight Malaysia as a Muslim-friendly destination. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between London Halal Expo organiser and ITC to continue the collaboration in the upcoming Halal Expo. ITC’s Director-General, YBhg. Dato’ Dr. Mohmed Razip Haji Hasan and London Halal Expo’s Director of Strategic Partnership, Saeeda Ahmed represented their respective organisations at the signing.

A total of 14 other Malaysian companies also took part to highlight the country’s various Halal offerings to the expo’s international audience. This was in line with Malaysia’s National Recovery Plan to increase the nation’s export potential.

Dato’ Dr. Mohmed Razip was also invited to speak at the conference portion of the expo, the Halal Economy Conference, on the topic l “Clouds Above the Rest: Islamic Tourism Inspires Balance, Transformations and Solutions”. The Director-General shared Malaysia’s experience as the leading Muslim-Friendly destination in catering to the Muslim tourist market and addressed the rising power of the Muslim consumer on the global front and how this would shape the future of businesses, products and services.

“The inclusive nature of Islamic Tourism makes it the sector that connects the different components within the Halal economy that includes pharmaceutical, entertainment, fashion, finance, media and recreation, food and beverage, among others, inspiring a balanced socio-economical growth globally,” informed Dato’ Dr. Mohmed Razip.

Earlier this year, the State of the Global Islamic Economy Report by DinarStandard revealed that the Muslim-Friendly and Hospitality Travel recorded a sum of USD 1.2 billion in travel investment in 2020/2021, signifying its importance. Malaysia’s praiseworthy performance in the area has earned it the Best Muslim-Friendly Destination (OIC) title at the inaugural Halal Travel Awards and the Global Muslim Travel Index 2022 Report by CrescentRating and MasterCard, further cementing its position in the industry.

As the appointed government agency to ensure the development of the Islamic Tourism ecosystem in Malaysia, ITC will continue its agenda to retain Malaysia’s position as the preferred destination of the Muslim tourist market by taking part in international engagement events such as the Halal Expo London 2022. ITC’s participation in the expo was supported by the national flag carrier, Malaysia Airlines, and Tourism Malaysia.

—– END —–

Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC) is a Company Limited By Guarantee (CLBG) established under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Malaysia tasked to develop the Islamic tourism segment for Malaysia. It advocates for Muslim-friendly tourism (MFT) by offering research and market intelligence, training, industry development and consultation, Muslim-friendly tourism and hospitality (MFTH) service standards and certification, and information exchange.

In 2021, ITC received two key awards, i.e. Strategic Business Alliance Award at The BrandLaureate World Halal Best Brand E-Branding Awards 2021, and Best Islamic Tourism Leadership Gold Award 2021 by Malaysia Tourism Council. These are recognition of ITC’s efforts and endeavours in formulating new strategies to meet the new normal of the business environment to ensure business continuity and sustainability, notwithstanding its role to develop and grow the Islamic tourism segment in Malaysia.

In 2022, Malaysia was again named top country in the world in the MFT sector by the State of the Global Islamic Economy (SGIE) Report 2022 by DinarStandard in partnership with Salaam Standard and supported by Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism.

Malaysia also retained the top-ranked destination in the MasterCard-CrescentRating Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) 2022, a position it has defended since the launch of the Index in 2015.

These recognitions are an added motivation for ITC to continue to strengthen its efforts in being a prime mover and leading institution to ensure Malaysia is at the forefront of MFTH.

Tourism sector to bring in RM375bil over three years, Dewan Rakyat told

KUALA LUMPUR: The tourism sector is expected to generate earnings of RM375.3bil in the next three years, the Dewan Rakyat heard.

Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan said this projection was based on anticipated increases in tourist arrivals leading up to and including Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

"For this year, we estimate about 27.3 million tourist arrivals generating income of about RM102.7bil.

"The number of arrivals is expected to increase to 31.4 million in 2025, generating income of RM125.5bil.

"During Visit Malaysia Year 2026, we estimate about 35.6 million tourists who will generate income of about RM147.1bil," he said in reply to Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau (PH-Tuaran) on Monday (March 11).

He acknowledged, however, that industry players and airline operators affected by the Covid-19 pandemic had yet to fully recover.

"As for connectivity, some airlines were unable to optimise their aircraft usage due to the pandemic but are actively working towards (restoring) their operations," he said.

Madius had raised the lack of domestic flights which could hamper the tourism sector.

Meanwhile, Khairul Firdaus said records showed that some 80% of tourist arrivals are from the Asean region.

He informed the House that the ministry is actively engaged in promoting Malaysia as a premier tourist destination to remain competitive amid competition from several nations in the region.

He added that this included participating in the recent International Tourisme Bourse (ITB) Berlin, World Travel Market (WTM) London, Arabian Travel Mart (ATM) Dubai and the Asean Tourism Forum (ATF).

"This is important to ensure that the Malaysia Truly Asia brand remains the choice of tourists around the world.

"Even more so when there is continuous aggressive competition from countries that are promoting their own destinations at these international fairs," he added.

To boost the tourism sector, he said Melaka, Perak, Perlis and Kelantan are currently promoting the states under their respective Visit 2024 campaigns.
